Solved: Outlook 2007 wont send/receive - error message "operation failed"

Question: Solved: Outlook 2007 wont send/receive - error message "operation failed"

My system crashed recently and I have had to restore everything. I reinstalled Outlook 2007 and was able to restore my PST file from a backup I had using the genie backup product. All my files and folders are now restored.

When I click on the send/receive button, I get this message "The operation failed. An object could not be found"

I deleted my email setup account (I'm downloading from my att account) and re set it up using the instructions on the att site. I also ran the 'repair' function off the Office CD and did the Office diagnostics.

Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can you give us the exact message.
Are you saying you did a clean install where you formatted and partitioned the drive?

Howdy folks,

After an uninvited guest visited my computer , and after we cleaned up his/her mess, a problem persists and I wonder if it indicates a larger problem.

When Outlook is not running, it checks for mail at regular intervals. When program is running, and I click "send/receive" the error "The operation failed" appears. When the program is running, it still checks at regular intervals.

It is possible that we screwed something up during twelve hours of cleanup, or it may be something malicious from the visitor.

It is weird. Any suggestions.

Hi I run Windows Vista Home Premium and Outlook 2007. I've set up POP3 access for Gmail and to download mail from (an Australian ISP). Initial setup was fine and I can send test messages to myself.

Recently I've had trouble sending (but not receiving) email via Outlook. The following error message is shown:

Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

This message occurs for both my email accounts.

If I reboot the computer, then sometimes the mail will be sent successfully. I've checked the "account settings" on Outlook- and they are exactly as those given by my ISP/Gmail. But when I click on "test account settings", the test message can't be sent.

What's going on?!

Answer:Outlook 2007 "Sending reported error"- can receive mail but can't send!!

Refer to the earlier query in this section dated 10th April under heading " OE suddenly asking for Logon Password" which shows possible ways of overcoming this . I reckon it's server problem as I had it re-occur a couple of days ago . My Mail is Btinternet which started rejecting my outward messages. I know that BT uses Yahoo so Isubstituted "" for "" ( OE/Tools/Accounts/Properties/Servers) and it immediately started working . So whatever the ISP says it IS their fault and somehow their systems start rejecting things for no valid reason .

This problem started out on one of the machines in my office, now it's happening on several of them.

Machine config:
- Outlook 2007
- POP account
- antivirus regularly running/updating/scanning

- User is running outlook like normal, then all the sudden Outlook gets stuck "Preparing to send / receive". Clicking the Send/Receive button does nothing, and it just sits there forever, apparently never actually making contact with the servers or doing anything at all.

My fix:
- I have to close down Outlook, but that's not enough.
- Open task manager, even though Outlook is closed, there is still an instance of it running on the machine.
- Manually close that extra instance, restart Outlook.

Then all the sudden it works, it sends and receives just fine. I thought the first user may have had a virus, but I've scanned ALL the machines in our office with Symantec Antivirus and nothing came up.

Also, this doesn't appear to ever happen on the two machines in the office who are running IMAP accounts.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Normally when I open Outlook, a send/receive is automatically activated. I noticed tonight that the last messages received were two days ago. When I click the manual send/receive button, I receive an error message box that simply says "The operation failed." - no error number or other information. I went into Tools/Email accounts and did a test -- all completed without errors. The only thing I can think that has been done recently, since the last messages were received into my inbox, is that I renewed my Norton AntiSpam subscription, and Norton's Live Update was run. Could this have affected outlook? and how do I resolve it?

Answer:Solved: Outlook 2002 - Send/Receive Operation Failed

Hi lisakmusco

See if disabling Norton's Anti-Spam allows Outlook collect your messages.
Also check to see if Norton scans your e-mails, if it does, disable that process as well.
Configuring Norton AntiSpam in Norton Internet Security 2006
Turning on or turning off email scanning in Norton AntiVirus 2002/2003/2004
Turning on or turning off email scanning in Norton AntiVirus 2003 through 2006
Configuring firewall rules for Web-enabled programs

Let us know if any of the above makes a difference, or not.

Working on a fresh installation of Win7 Ultimate and Office 2007 Ultimate.

Got Outlook installed and setup with my mail accounts (this is the first time I'm using Outlook - moved from Thunderbird) and it synced with my phone and all seemed to be right with the world.

Then I tried to send an email message. It gives me the error: "the operation failed. an object cannot be found." and the message goes to the "Outlook" folder in the Personal Folders (even though I told it to send sent mail to another folder).

This is an GMail IMAP account in Outlook 2007. I've been googling and it might have something to do with Offline Address Books, but the instructions for rebuilding them are to open Exchange Service Manager or something like that... I don't have that.

Can someone help me out on this issue? If I can't send mail, obviously that's a killer, but I'd really like to use Outlook because I have a WinMo phone and need to sync the calendar and tasks and so on.

I have a Dell Latitude D800 Laptop running Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Office 2002 Professional. Whenever I click on the "Send/Receive" button to download my emails I get the error message "Operation Failed". However I can successfully send a test message. This problem showed up only recently - prior to which I had no problems. No settings have been changed. Repeated uninstalls and re-installs have not fixed this problem. Any ideas ?

Hi Guys,

I need some help please, when I click Send/Receive in Outlook 2007 it fails and I get an Error message - 0x80040600. I've tried running the Repair Tool in SCANPST.EXE but this doesn't help, it states that all errors have been fixed, but then I still get the error message. I'm not running Exchange.

Any ideas please?

Answer:Error message after 'Send/Receive' in Outlook 2007

You can try creating a new Unicode .pst file, setting it as default, and then importing the data from your older .pst file. For information about how to create a new .pst file and setting it as the default, click on the URL mentioned:

To import the original .pst file, it must be removed from the Outlook profile. When Outlook is running, right-click the name of the Outlook data file (.pst) that you want to remove from the “Outlook Bar”or “Navigation Pane”, and then click “Closename”.If the “Close” command is not available, you are probably trying to remove the default Outlook data file (.pst) that is used to save your new messages. The article that was referenced earlier provides the steps to change the .pst file that is used as the default delivery location.

After you remove the original .pst file from the profile, you can import the data into the new .pst file. In order to do so, Click on the URL mentioned:

Kindly let me know for further clarifications.

OUTLOOK 2003: "the requested operation failed" error appears on Internet E-Mail Settings IMAP pop-up?

I have been using & setting up Outlook on 2 identical W7 pro 32 bit pc's for several yr with little or or problems.

My wife & I are moving to a new area and will have new email addresses and haven't been able to get past the above error (pix below). My ISP Charter & they are always making changes to their email program & settings. Also, after months of no W7 updates, I have just started rec'd updates for both PCs.

I'm trying to track this problem down: Am I making an operational error, or is Charter trying to get everyone using their web mail, or is MS slipping something into W7 updates to force customers to W10??
If you guys have any suggestions, etc, please advise as I will be with out an email client on my PC when our move is completed. Please see image below.

I installed a MSI MS-3871 WLAN 802.11b/g/n 1T1R+BT2.1 EDR Combo Slim Module on my Intel DX58SO running Win 7 Pro x64 and MS Office Pro 2007.

Desktop Boards — Wireless LAN (WiFi) and Bluetooth* module

The software/drivers for the module added Bluetooth features to the Office 2007 applications.

Every time I reply to an email for the first time, I get the following pop-up error box:

Two buttons: OK & OK to All

I can disable the pop-up error box by unchecking "Show add-in user interface errors" under "In all Microsoft Office Programs:" in Tools/Options/"Other" Tab/"Advanced Options..." button.

I'd like to know if there is a solution for this issue other than turning off the notification of the add-in user interface error?

How do I troubleshoot this issue?

I have the latest drivers installed. The drivers for the Bluetooth side of the module are from Motorola and the drivers for the WLAN 802.11bgn side of the module are from Ralink.

Answer:Office 2007 Outlook "Send to Bluetooth" Error

This issue is resolve for now. The problem is a Bluetooth driver that causes issues with MS Office as well. See the link below for more details:

Word 2007 Copy and Paste Issue

In addition to disabling the "Show Add-In user interface errors" option as described in post 1, you can disable the "Send to Bluetooth" feature under Tools/Trust Center/Add-Ins/Manage: COM Add-ins (drop down menu and click "Go")/uncheck "Send to Bluetooth."

With Win 7, you need to right click the application exe file, select "Properties"/Compatibility and check the box to run the program as an administrator to be able to uncheck the "Send to Bluetooth" options in all the Office applications.

For some strange reason (aren't all of these computer problems strange?), every time I click on the "Send/Receive" button in Outlook 2002 I get a pop-up box that says "Operation failed". My email will send and receive on it's programmed time schedule, but not if I click on the button manually.

This just started yesterday as far as I know.

I've rebooted, run Spybot, Ad-Aware SE, AVG, and no problems show up.

Any ideas?

I use OE and Gmail, which is configured to display through my Outlook Express details page. Everything's always worked smoothly until a couple of weeks ago. Now, perhaps one in about every half dozen attempts, when I click "Send Receive", it freezes/hangs on the "Securing" part of the set up before it displays any messages. It remains frozen for about 15-20 seconds then I get an error message. If I try again it usually works?? Can anyone help please?

I've recently upgraded from Office 2000 to Office 2003 in my PC running XP. I didn't realize I was going to have so much "fun" doing this, however I will chalk if up to a learning experience. The problem being that I cannot send or receive e-mails. If I create a new e-mail it just sits in my outbox. When pressing Send/Receive, a dialogue box comes up at the bottom of the screen stating "Send/Receive Complete" however the e-mail stays in the outbox. There are no error messages that will give me a clue as to what I have done or need to do. I can access the Internet and I can send receive just fine on my wireless laptop, so I know my e-mail account is working fine.

After viewing the various similar problems in this forum here's what I've tried:

reinstalled Office 2003;
removed Norton;
created a new account - POP3;
ran the "Test Account Settings" in E-Mail Accounts - green check marks for all;
fiddled with data files to the point of perhaps this is where I am beyond my abilities;
Folders for Inbox, outbox, sent items, etc, show up under a folder titled Personal Folders.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me in resolving this problem. Thank you!

I'm pretty new at posting so I'm not sure of the best way to do this. When I start to log on to the net, whether using IE or Firefox an error message having to do with "Google" occurs immediately. (I usually use my Google bar to go directly to the site I want.) I've taken a print screen so that you can see that message directly but don't know how I should get it to you. (I'm used to emailing such things --) As I proceed I get another message which I have also copied. This one starts with the words "Assertion Failed." If I continue I usually get a "script error" message, a copy of which I do not have at this time. If I tell the message that I will proceed with going to my chosen web site, the last several times the site has come up in multiplicity, most recently it appeared 16 times, one right after another, totally out of my control, (causing I believe Foxfire to crash), and then just a bit ago, using IE, the site I logged on to came up 7 times. I really have no idea what to do about this so I'm hoping that you can help me once again.

My manager's pc is running xp sp2 and outlook 2003 sp2 on a HP compaq dc7100.

When he randomly opens emails (by double clicking on them, not previewing/reading) and tries to print them (either menu/icon/right click), he gets the error "operation failed".

A reset doesn't fix the problem and I'm aware that html pages need to be opened properly before printing, but like I said, he opens them and gets the error.

Does anybody know of a solution/patch or an explanation?
Or is there anything else I should check for?

The emails he gave an example of have rich text, not plain black and white. But there are plenty of rich text emails that do work.

I had a few problems with by harddrive and ran chkdsk to fix it. I'm running XP SP2. All seems fine except that none of my Office 2000 applications would work. I reinstalled Office 2000 and all are fine except Outlook. When I start Outlook, I get the message "The operation failed" and when I click OK the program exits immediately. If I go to Control Panel/Mail to check for Profile, double clicking Mail has absolutely no effect - nothing happens. I'm stumped on this and would appreciate advice. I'm guessing this is because outlook doesn't do newsgroups.

I recently tried to install the 'notorious" Act program and do an email merge using Outlook 2002. The system froze and I had to manually shut down the computer.

When I later tried to use Outlook 2002 and clicked on Send/Receive I got a message which states precisely "Operation Failed" (That is exact message and I am making this point since it appears that Outlook has many similar error messages, all with their own fix, but there was nothing on the net related to this 2 word error).

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook 2002, either on its own, or did a complete reinstall of Office 2002. Still get same message.

I also did 2 or 3 System Restores and reinstalled but still get same message.

Spent some time with my ISP who say it appears that registry has been corrupted and Outlook is picking up a corrupted registry value. I thought that the Restore would have restored my registry to a previous and "good" time. Is that correct? Does System restore also restore the registry values?

Would appreciate any help on this.

Answer:Outlook 2002 - "Operation Failed"

No the System Restore doesnt fix all registry problems. As even though you restored you still could have a courruptes Registry. As you restore point could be after it got corrupted.

Try using CCleaner and see if that helps clean up the registry.

Excel 2007 Send email "message has not been Sent"
I'm having a major problem with excel sending an attachment as and email.
I go to send email and it opens up a new message with the worksheet attached. Above the send button it says "this message has not been sent."
Next I select the person it is going to...and hit send.
The email box never closes and the message still says, "this message has not been sent."
But the email goes through to the person. The issue is that you really don't know if it sent because the box does not close or say it has sent.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

This has always worked fine, until yesterday.
Now when I send to a mail recipient, i get the following error message:
"Microsoft Office Outlook" / "The operation failed"
Unfortunately, the message gives no more details regarding the cause of the error.

I can stil create a new mail in outlook, click on the paperclip icon and attach a file from there. Only the "send to" option doesn't work anymore.

Any suggestions to solve this problem or to find the cause of the problem. Does Outlook have a error log anywhere where I could find more info?

I do not have the infected computer at my access right now (brother in law's computer) so I have not been able to see exactly what is going on, so this is simply a general question post for now:

At startup, his Windows XP system shows an error that reads something similar to "lsass.exe operation failed - operation was unsuccessful". I tried to get him to boot into safe mode but somehow the same error appeared. From what I gather from a little research this seems to be some sort of registry problem. I just built a new pc two days ago and have noticed every single time on startup I receive the "Error: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might have caused the issue after you install Windows Updates" error, the keyboard doesn't turn on during boot so I can't access the bios despite having changed the boot order to specifically boot usb before anything else, now all I can do when I see the message is turn the pc off again, unplug all the sata cables, which then allows the keyboard to start working straight away some how, then once I've accessed the bios I just turn it off again, plug the sata cables back in and the error just disappears, only reappearing when I next boot

Answer:During startup I always receive "Windows failed to start" error

Perhaps a device address conflict?

1. The operation goes smoothly till I type and (retype) a password, which is saved.
2. Within a few seconds, I get the message "The operation failed. An object could not be found".
3. When I check the file which I had earlier named, to store the data, I find it's there, but with only 5% or 10% of the data.

Could you please guide me what steps I could take?

With thanks,

Hi everybody,

I have a problem and was wondering if any of you experts would be able to help me please?

I'm using Outlook 2007 at work and each day when I log in I have two problems:

1. "Press CTRL+ENTER to send messages" under tools\options\email options\advanced email options is unchecked (even though I've checked it myself the day before)

2. When I click on calendar, somebody elses calendar opens and the check to show 'My Calendar' has been removed.

These aren't deal breakers but they annoy me every day!!

Can anybody help me please? :cry

After trying to upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1 on my Inspiron 7000, my Windows install would freeze during the start up process - the Dell logo would appear and the loading icon would stop. I had Linux installed on a separate partition so I went into the BIOS and moved Ubuntu ahead of Windows - this was the mistake. After exiting, I get the error message "Operation System not found". When I start up, I see the options F2 Setup and F12 Boot Options, however I cannot access either - the text will become bolded to show that I have selected it but I always get brought to the same screen which says "Operation System not found".
Any ideas on how to proceed? I don't mind losing the files and folders on the device, I just want to be able to use the laptop again.

Answer:"Operation System not found" error message on Inspiron 7000

It looks like the MBR or GPT that tells the BIOS/UEFI where to start booting has been messed up. If you created restore media before upgrading to Windows 10, I'd use that and start all over. If not, you can go here to download or order your recovery media.

When I click an email address on a website or if I click an email address on a spreadsheet, I get the following error message "Could not perform this operation because the mail client is not properly installed". Then, hundreds of blank internet explorer pages are opened.

I researched online and it said to change my defaults programs. I did that and I still have the problem.
I recently updated to IE11.
Thanks for any help

Lately, whenever I use Outlook (2007) I get a send and receive error. The error is shown below.
I am convinced that this issue is minor, because whenever I restart my computer, Outlook works again. I am not sure how to fix it though. I have googled my error message but have not found a solution.

Send/receive error appears at the bottom right just above the taskbar and when i click on details the attached error report comes up. Outlook operates for a while, going to send/receive complete, or receiving email but after a while it goes to the error and it takes many attempts to get it back to normal either by retrying or restart the computer. I notice the error 0x number is different each time. Any solution on this one?

Answer:Send/receive error Outlook 2007

I tried going to and others while the "send/receive error" is there and the the internet is connected. I just sent an email to myself from webmail and also from Outlook 2007 and the send/receive error is there. When the emails came in the send/receive error is gone. My attachment "send/receive message" says "mailbox temporarily unavailable as another message is being delivered". I checked the account settings and all is ok. It seems to be happening on incoming mail?

Ok, all the problems started here...A message popped up from the taskbar, a file name with a *.dll extension (forgot the name of the file) has been corrupted - run chkdsk. So I restarted the computer and it did a check for errors after bootup. I tried to open windows media player right after all this. The following message was displayed, " Can't perform operation, low memory", with a loud beep. Similarly none of the audio players work, all of them give different messages. I can play a game (NFSU2) but with no audio. Norton Antivirus gives me a message too "Internal program error". Moreover, Copy and Paste doesnt work, Internet Explorer - right click and open in new window doesnt work, does work on mozilla though. Windows XP is also taking longer time to load.

Dont know whats going on , could it be a virus? Please help...Thank You

Answer:Please help - Win XP error message - "Cant perform Operation, Low memory"

I'm having the same problem. Internet Explorer is also behaving strangely, many links don't work as they should. Outlook Express (XP) has plenty of room to suck down 30 or more new incoming emails but if I dare hit 'create email' I get the awful beep and the message about low mem. Same thing as you for media. I can't even open most pictures with the viewer. I can only see those in paint and audio or .avis, forget it.

Grr. I only bloody formatted and installed 2 days ago from a completely new HDD! No way I got the dreaded lurgie virus in that time, despite not running an antivirus since the installer for McAfee (bought over the net from their site) is on my accidentally wiped HDD and I've only made up this install to get all that kind of data back. Tomorrow antivirus goes on -all my critics, 0_o Also this partition is 200gb (170gb show up in properties). Windows XP takes up 4gb.

I'm thinking we both could have a buggered virtual memory file. I just partitioned within windows using Partition Manager to test it out by splitting my drive in half, while getting used to it in the hope I could use it to get my data back. Didn't work but I bough R-Studio in the end and all appears happy. I just wish I could test all my .avi and .jpg files! I'm not sure if they've been resurrected off my dead HDD properly bc windows is already having this problem with the multimedia software!

I can't wait to do a fresh install of Win 7 tomoz after my data comes back. I'm sure that will fix ... Read more

All of a sudden, an address that I email to often won't go through. I get the message "DELIVERY FAILURE: User [email protected] not listed in public Name & Address Book"

I tried to access help but I can't understand what they're talking about. The address book, or whatever it is, is a mystery to me. It's not related to the "contacts", is it? Because I have all my email addresses in the contacts area. The address book, I don't know.

How do I resolve this?

One of my workstations, when you right click any file and use the "Sent To Mail Recipient" option. It fails with "Operation Failed" error. What I've done so far:

1. Kill the "Outlook.exe" process in Task Manager
It end's up working for the first file or email
2. Remove existing Outlook profile and Add a new profile
No difference
3. Unchecked all "Add Ins" in Outlook

What I might do next is to rebuild the Windows XP, SP2 user profile. If there's any suggestion before hand, please feel free

Hi everyone,

I have searched for this issue in the forums but couldn't find it. A few days ago I started having problems with sending/receiving on Outlook (my work e-mail address). I have had it for about a year with no problems until suddenly Thursday morning. When trying to access my work website I get an error message that the page could not be loaded.

I have internet access to every other site I try to access. My husband's computer (using the same ISP - Comcast) can access my company's site. Other employees around the US and abroad are not having problems with their email or access to the site (we are a virtual company).

I have Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2007. This is a Dell Latitude E6400 Laptop. Any ideas?

Hi Everyone,

A work colleague came to me with a strange error that was occurring with his Outlook 2007 program. My colleague reported that he was able to send messages but not receive them!

Outlook 2007 was also supplying a cryptic error message:

A Google search failed to turn up any results on the error code (0x8000000600), and the standard actions, such as restarting my colleagues PC, and restarting the email server software (MDaemon Standard 11) on the server failed to produce a positive outcome.

I turned my attention toward the “humble” PST file, and decided that creating a new PST would be a good course of action. After creating the new PST file I set it to be the default file for future mail receipt.

My solution was a success and my colleague is now able to send and receive emails as normal, with the one change being that his mail is now delivered to the new PST file which I created.

The fix goes as follows:

1). Close Outlook 2007
2). Open Control Panel
3). Open Mail (Control Panel Item)

The “Mail Setup – Outlook” dialog will now be displayed

4). Click on Data Files

The “Account Settings” dialog will now be displayed

5). Click on Add

The “New Outlook Data File” dialog will now be displayed

6). Click on OK

The “Create or Open Outlook Data File” dialog will now be displayed

* The default file name of Personal Folders(1).pst is likely to be displayed

* Either accept the file name or type one of your liking, e.g.: OutlookNEW.pst

I just ran into another unreasonable restriction on access to my own computer in Windows 7. When using MS Outlook 2003 this evening, I tried to open a link inside an email from a forum moderator. It contains instruction on how to change my password after having to reset it. A message pops up saying "this operation canceled due to restrictions on this computer. Please contact your system administrator".

This is moronic I am the only user on this computer and am the administrator. I don't have a clue on how to fix this.

I am also blocked from opening folders in some cases too. For example, I want to access my program application data and get a similar message.

This is the stupidist thing that I have seen Microsoft do in many years. Are their programmers morons or just not able to realize that real people will be running their programs and we are not all located in a huge room with administrators running all over the place.

Is theire a way to overcome this idiocy?

Does anyone know if its possible to autofill the "from field" as a rule, when your in "another users /delegates" mailbox, so you dont have to add their address in the "from field"? (so it will autopopulate with their email address (and show "on behalf of")?
I hope this was clear.

Answer:Solved: outlook 2007 "from field" 'on behalf of" issue

No ... its not possible if the user has more than one delegate (that has added them with the applicable rule). from that point on, they will have to choose which person they want to add to "sent" on behalf of field.

However, If they have just one (one only) user who has added them with that permission (to send on behalf of), it will auto-populate with that user.

So, It does not matter even if they are "in" a specific users mailbox (and expect the "on behalf of" to auto fill with that users name). If they have more than one delegate that has added them with that permission, they will still have to choose which user the message will sent "on behalf of"

i figured this out by trail and error etc

Hi All,
A helpful technician chappie had put Outlook 2003 on my PC. This had run fine until a gremlin struck. I removed the program and all Microsoft office and reinstalled it all.
Unfortunately.... 1) I only have the 2002 outlook on my disks. So now I cannot use my PST file as it is not compatible. What method should I be using to revert my 2003 PST file to be able to be used by 2002 Outlook without the presence of Outlook 2003?

Unfortunately.... 2) When I hit "send/receive" on my new outlook 2002, it displays "could not open item" .
All contributions and suggestions will be gratefully received.

Answer:Outlook 2002 send/receive error message

Have now solved "Unfortunately 2". After removing "Microsoft Office XP Small Business", restarted P.C. and cleaned the registry and deleted ANY directory remotely connected to Outlook. Restarted, but still no change. It still had "inherited" some settings like POP3 mailbox settings etc. The "Test Account Settings" all worked and was able to sent to my ISP mail account.

Mumble "grunt"!...went "Startup".."Settings".."Control Panel".. "Mail".."Show Profiles" and removed the current profile. When I started Outlook 2002 again it asked for a new profile and away she went.

Outlook 2007 "Enter Network Password prompt" and wont retrieve emails. I have already deleted and reset the account & have changed ISP email password so we know it's the right PW, sort of at a loss right now. Any help greatly appreciated TY in advance.

Answer:Outlook 2007 "Enter Network Password prompt" and wont retrieve emails

Removing and setting the account back up was the right move. Some people swore a reboot was needed after this was done.

Just to be 100% on the password, try going to a web service like and see if you can retrieve your email. At least then you're sure the email and password are working just to eliminate the obvious.

I also read that if your mail servers settings are "" for example, remove the mail.

Are you accessing the mail from multiple devices? That can cause an issue.

I was previously using Outlook express, and when the send/receive function ran (from blueyonder, pop3) it was always very quick and didn't interfere with any other program running on the computer.
Recently I upgraded some parts on the computer (operating system is XP), so decided to run Microsoft Outlook 2007 instead of express, mainly because of the archiving function.
Now though, the send and receive function is incredibly slow - 37 minutes for 63 items coming into the inbox - and worse still, it causes all the other programs open at the same time, including internet browsers, to freeze/work only intermittently.
I have turned off the addins, including the search indexer but this action has had no impact on the speed of the receive function.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

I sent an email to a few hundred people and for around 40 of them i got this "Warning: message could not send for the past 4 hours" email back. I understand that its not a Fail message and this this is one of those "there are no stupid questions" things but i would like to know:

What does this mean anyway?
Does the person receive my email if i do not get a Failure message after this?
Is there a way that i will not receive this message and only receive total failure messages?

I had the a few hundred other messages go through fine so i don't understand what causes this to happen to just a few dozen emails.

Thank you for being kind to Stupid Questions

Answer:Solved: What does "Warning: message could not send for the past 4 hours" mean anyway?

Let's say I work for a company whose email goes to; you send to me at [email protected] and get one of those messages back. The message means, in essence, that your mail got to, but some kind of problem with the system prevented the message from being sent to my actual mail server or computer. It's possible that the reason my be that I was fired and you will eventually get a "hard" failure message, but generally it means that abc will fix their system and the message will eventually get to me.

I'm sure there are some exceptions but, in general, I will get the message if you don't latter get a "hard" failure message.

Hello, can anybody give me help with a problem I am having with OE6.
This problem has only been happening since sunday 15th, prior to this it all worked fine. I am getting the following message concerning ports 25 and 110 - No, Socket Error:10061 Error no 0x800CCC0E - and OE does not authorize and cannot send or receive mail. It only happens if the computer is hibernated or placed on standby from the "user" page. If it is hibernated or put on standby whilst logged on all works OK, however if you switch to another user OE does not authorize and the message comes up. If the computer is then restarted the user that logs on has use of OE but the others do not. I have checked the Microsoft update site and they seem to blame anti-virus/spam programmes like Norton etc for the problem or OE settings, but as there has been no change for the last six months in my computer why would this suddenly start happening? I hardly know anything about fixing computers. I obviously didn't meddle with the operating system or whatever. I really don't know what's wrong.

I remember you're supposed to press the F2 key. I did, and a screen came up that's titled "Insyde H2O Setup Utility Bios Version R029Q2." I have no idea what that's about so I didn't do anything else.

I know there are a handful of threads with the above error message and code, but I have yet to see a thread with what was my reason for the error code. I wanted to pass on what I discovered and how I fixed it.

I started with a standard Windows 7 Pro install joined to a domain. This machine has restricted Internet access so I downloaded the ISO on another machine, burned it to media and ran the upgrade on the test machine from within Windows. The machine passed all of the checks and tests and reported no issues. It would get to the first "Installing" screen, display 0% and then almost immediately give me the pop-up "Something Happened: Install Failed"

I ran it as administrator, I did a Clean Boot, I uninstalled all of the AV/Malware/security type stuff. Nothing worked. I finally found the setuperr.log in C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther. Found several error lines and the code was always 80070005. I found a line where the installer had a problem copying install.esd. I cleared out the $Windows.~BT in case there was file corruption in the directory somewhere and tried again - no change. Finally, I decided to create a USB install media and viola! The install completed. And I used the same ISO to make the USB that I had used to make the DVD.

I've read a few other threads where people had problems with the ISO. So the moral of the story is if you need to use install media, use the USB installer.

Requesting for advise/assistance in resolving this issue and successfully launching Internet Explorer. Much appreciated.

Answer:Error message "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022)"

The next time you get the error msg, look at the details.

I forget exactly how, but you get to a dialog with a description and data listed in a lower pane. On that dialog is an icon with a paper-page. Clicking the icon will copy all the data to the Clipboard. Now paste into Notepad and SAVE.

Examine the data. You can also copy paste the text into a reply on this thread.

48 hours ago, after boot up, an error message was received 'Configuration system failed to utilize'
After clicking 'continue' button on the message window the message disappears and the computer can be used normally without any problems.
I have not downloaded any new progs in the time period but just in case a new prog previously installed had become corrupted I uninstalled the last two programmes that I installed over the past two weeks, but error persists.
I ran the crap cleaner registry cleaner but error persists.
I ran both Malwarebytes and Super Anti Spyware - just in case of malware but error persists.
I did think of doing a system restore but as you know during sys restore the computer shuts down/starts and it may cause problems as it might not restart until the continue button, mentioned above, is pushed, but this may be hidden.
Help appreciated.
many thanks.

I keep getting the error message "Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file D:\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

I'm not sure if the error is D:\$Mft or C:\$Mft I'll post once the error appears again. The message appears at random times, usually when the comp's idle. The computer acts totally normal after the error message occurs. I've recently jumped from 1 GB of RAM to 2 GB of RAM and I've also upgraded my boot drive from a 250GB IDE hard drive to a 250 Western Digital SATA Drive.

What is this and what can I do to stop it?

Any tips or suggestions are much appreciated,

Dear Fellow Members,

It has been some time since I have been able to get back on line, even briefly. Let me begin with a description of the circumstances which prompted this post.

I received a series of 32 .rar downloads (made using a good, high speed connection and under optimal conditions), which contain what I believe is a full DVD (sent as an .iso file) of a cultural event from the person who made the recording, of an event in which he was a participant, and for which he owns the rights. This does not relate to any sort of illegal file sharing.

When I tried to extract the .iso file, the file extracts fully and (apparently) completely (the counter goes up to 100%), but at the end (only after the file has extracted 100%) I consistently received the following WinRAR error message:

"CRC failed in the encrypted file xxx.iso (wrong password?)."

The password was correct (I have had experience that when the password is actually incorrect, the opening sequence will not initiate in the first place); the resulting .iso file (saved because I asked WinRAR to "keep corrupted files") is the full size of the file which was sent. According to what I have been able to read on line (and, again, from past experience), WinRAR should be able to indicate which of the files is corrupt during the extraction process (I have subsequently tested the archives several times in an attempt to find what is wrong), but no problem with any of the files has been i... Answer:WinRAR Error Message "CRC failed in the encrypted file"

CRC error means that the file is unreadable and or corrupted, probably just the last tidbit. You can try to open the ISO file with MagicISO but if Alcohol didn't open it, this probably won't either.

My m-in-l's computer crashed so I brought it to my house to reinstall everything for her. I am almost to the point of setting it back up at her house, but I am still having a couple of problems. I've searched and searched for all three but nothing has worked yet, so I thought I would post on here.

I noticed a yellow circle with a "!" in the middle of the yellow circle under device manager of her Display adapters/Video Controller (VGA Compatible)". In the system tray it says "Found New Hardware ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Series". So I went to Gateway website to get the specific drivers for my M-in-law's GT5222e Os XP and their was a chip driver for the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Series so I downloaded it & extracted the files into Cabs like the instructions said to and now I am getting the error message

"Severe - Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to set up your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup."

So I closed that window and a new window popped up saying:

"The ATI Control Panel failed to initialize because no ATI driver is installed, or ATI driver is not working properly. The ATI Control Panel will now exit."

Any suggestions would be appreciated to how & where do I fix this.

Hey everyone, I really need some help from you smart people out there

I'm using Windows 2000 Professional with an AMD 1800+ computer. It's been quite stable for a few months now, but now all of a sudden I started having problems shutting down/restarting my computer. Everything I try to restart, an error message pops up saying:
I don't know what's causing this, it just kind of happened out of nowhere. The problem is, it shows up everytime I try to restart, and everytime I click on the 'OK' button, the computer does not shut down, but continues to pop up the error message until I go insane and hit the reboot button on the tower. I've downloaded all the service packs and OS updates from Windows Update, I don't know what can be going on. It's a problem because when I install a program that requires a reboot, the programs do not install correctly. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

By the way, here are event logs of the errors:

I am aware this a problem that has been addressed multiple time on this forum and others but am unable to come up with a solution from previous posts.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and have been for years.

I have had no problems previously that I was unable to fix.

This morning when starting up my pc I got the error message "Failed to connect to a windows service"

In addition it has defaulted to windows classic theme and I can not re enable Aero.

I looked at the Event log but it is simply beyond my level of understanding how to address the errors. Also all errors shown seem to be relativity longstanding/ recurring.

I have tried all the common suggestions I could find and none have fixed to problem.

Please can you help

Hi there,
I've searched a lot on the web for the answer to this problem, but none that fit my particular situation.

Recently this error message has started popping up when I use word 2007 on my home computer:

"Word has lost data due to a bad network connection or missing floppy. Documents relying on this data are going to be saved and then closed"

However, despite its threatening intent, I have never lost data. Its bloody annoying because it stops me typing, I press 'ok' and it goes away, only to pop up at a seemingly random time later.

From my ultimately fruitless googling, I have an idea that it is related to me syncing with an external hard drive, and then using this external hard drive at my work computer. When I do this I save directly to my external drive. Unfortunately I have no choice because my work computer crashes if I try to sync it with my hard drive.

I don't know if my suspicians are right or wrong, but I really hope that somebody can help me with this problem!

Thanks for your time.

Hello friends,

I'm really in need of help with this wireless networking problem I've been having. I am aware that there are quite a number of threads with the same issue, but most of the advice that I saw and tried didn't work. Most of the in-depth tech stuff just goes over my head, but.. I know roughly what's going on, so please don't pull any punches, if I don't get it I'll ask for clarification!

I recently bought and installed a Belkin Wireless Universal Range Extender (F5D7132) to cover the blind spot in my house (namely my room). The signal strength is fantastic; I'm getting 5 full bars, but it intermittently cuts off the connection going to 'Local Only'.

When I use the Windows Network Diagnostic to test the connection, I get the message "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server ( – Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response." I've did some elimination work, and I believe the problem lies with the Belkin WURE, and not my 2wire 2701HGV-E modem/wireless router since I don't have this problem when I turn the Belkin off and my notebook is next to the 2wire.

The fix for it is "Reset the network adapter “Wireless Network Connection”. The fix does work, but it is only temporary. It seems like it's only a matter of time before it conks out again. Interestingly, my HP notebook seems not to regress to 'Local Only&q... Read more

Purchased a copy of office 2003 (downloaded from the internet complete with serial number) - loaded over the top of an office 2000 program - loaded no bother - now I am unable to access Outlook Express and get the message "The address book failed to load. My operating system is Windows XP with the latest patch. Any assistance in resolving this would be much appreciated

So I don't know what I did but one day this error message started popping up on my computer that says "Debug assertion failed! program" C:\Program Files (x86)\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\xstring
line: 930
expression: invalid null pointer
For information on how you can cause an assertion failure, see the visual C++ documentation on asserts"

I have no idea what ANY of that means, and I've looked up solutions but they're all too complicated and involve codes and stuff I don't know how to do.
Can someone please give me an explanation and solution I can understand?

This is a programmers' problem, to fix it, they must change their code. Nothing you can do about it.

My computer recently crashed; I didn't pay attention to the first message because, like most people, I'm constantly getting an error message of some type so I didn't pay much attention to this one - until the screen requested the installation CD to be run. When I did that, setup began, running through the initial processes until the "installing windows" segment - when I received the following message:

My organisation has just rolled out an Exchange 2007 Server.
I am a desktop support engineer for my unit. We are setting up access to the server through Outlook 2003.

A small number of Outlook 2003 users get this error message when they are using a .prf file to configure their clients.

"Your Exchange Server administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that you are using. Contact your administrator for assistance."

This is XP SP2 running Outlook 2003 (error occurs on Office, Office SP2 and Office SP3) connecting to Exchange 2007.

I have tried tried applying SP2 and SP3 to Office and completely reinstalling Office but it still occurs.

I am told by the Server Administrators that this is a local problem so I am not getting any help from them. I tend to believe them that it's not server side because I set one of the profiles up on two PCs next to eachother. On one it worked fine but on the other it had this error message. I could not see a difference in the two Outlook installations.
I have read this article here but a lot of the questions it asks and tests involve having administrator access over the server which I do not have.

Does anyone know of anything in the local Office installation that I do have control over that has been known to cause this?

All the best,

Answer:Solved: Outlook 2003/Exchange 2007 - "Your Version of Outlook has been blocked..."

Hi we managed to find the solution so I'm posting it here to help others.

We inherited a number of builds that were done by other companies. It appears these builds have in the past had previous versions of Office installed. This has resulted in registry keys lurking around from the old installs.

Once we removed these registry entries it worked.

Best way to do this that I could think of is to

1) Uninstall Office and then search the registry for any references to Outlook. You can do this using AML Free Registry Cleaner (which has a search function). Ignore any hits for Outlook Express you are only insterested in Office Outlook.

2) If this is the problem that you are having then you will find registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\7.0 or 8.0 or 9.0 etc.

3) Delete any Outlook folders in the above tree. Onc eof the keys in the Outlook folder will be Version and this appears to be what is being read when the server asks what version you have.

4) Reinstall Office - it should now work.

All the best,

One of my users is having this issue. She is is using Windows 7 Pro x64 bit with Internet Explorer 11. Everytime she tries to access a specific website IE stops working and gives the following error message:
create file mapping failed (6), wc_registry_mmap_name
No one else is having this issue when visiting the same website on their computers, it only happens to her. I reset IE's settings on her computer but that didn't fix the issue. I can use a different web browser on her computer to visit the website, so I
know the website isn't the problem.

On startup, I get the ERROR MESSAGE: "Database/SQL Service Failed. Please reinstall the main application."
My operating system is WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL. My computer is the HP TouchSmart 300.
How do I fix this ??

Answer:ERROR MESSAGE: "SQL Service Failed"

The SQL Service could be used by any number of applications, it's tough to know where to start without more information. If you could post a screen shot of the exact error message, preferably with at least your task bar also visible in the shot, that might help. A screen shot of the entire program list from "Add or Remove Programs", in the Control Panel would also help pinpoint which program might be using the SQL Service. Also, have you recently installed or uninstalled any software or Windows Updates?
