Question: Lost Gmail Emails After Outlook Sync

Recently I synced Outlook with my Gmail account so that I could get a full interface without having to use a browser. My laptop crashed and now I can't access all of the emails I was able to access through my laptop using Outlook. When I set up Outlook, it only imported the emails from after the crash. Obviously the emails aren't stored on the laptop, so they have to be somewhere. Anyone know how I go about getting those emails back? They are important... Any help would be much appreciated.

how did you set up gmail for pop access
you can have the files on your gmail account
log into gmail on the web
and look at the "all mail" folder see if they have been moved to there
also look at the POP settings and see how its set up after the emails have been transfered to outlook - you may have set them up to be deleted

The question really says all about what I want to do, or need help on. I recently signed up for a new outlook account to try out the new outlook preview and I've set up gmail to automatically forward new messages to my outlook account so that I can use outlook to manage my gmail account.

Do any of you know how I would be able to forward the old messages, and not the new ones, to my outlook? I already know that they can be fetched into outlook by outlook's very own service, forwarding would be faster, so..?! Also, since I now use outlook to send email on behalf of my gmail account, how do I make it sync each email I send using outlook with my gmail - so that gmail has it all?

I use Outlook 2010 which syncs to my IMAP Gmail account.
This works very well.

Today something happening in Outlook (I might have dragged something, I don't know) and my mails (12,500 of them) ended up in Outlook's deleted items folder. Some Gmail folders just vanished, like Sent Items, Bin and Spam.

I immediately quit Oulook before it synced so all my mails are still safe on Gmail's servers. I checked via logging in to the Gmail website and also disabled IMAP to be safe.

I need some advice on how to fix the emails in Outlook.
I'm afraid that if I start syncing the mails will be lost from Gmail.
I also don't want to start a new Outlook .pst file as there are many gigs of emails to sync.

Does anyone have some advice?

Hi I run a company that takes a lot of bookings through g mail. Is it possible to move these booking direct from gmail to calender as they come in??

Hello Guys!
Even if I enabled the settings for Banner, Sound and Vibra.
I'll actually get no Notification either on Lockscreen, no Sounds, no Banners for new mails. Did I missed something important? :(
@L930, 8.1 .. and again, it neither works on Push, nor on waiting for 15 Minutes sync.
The Email seems to be "downloaded" and synced if I open Mail app, but I get NO Notification.

Evidently, 60 some accounts have been compromised at Gmail - all emails w/in these accounts were 'lost'. One thought is that there was/is a flaw w/in Firefox that allowed XXS to manipulate and then cause harm. While only a very small fraction of Gmail users, this does bring to light at least two points:

1. If it is important to you, backup your email via whatever method you so desire.
2. Technology, time, and evilness in the wrong hands can mess up the 'best' systems; ie: Firefox browser and/or Google's Gmail.

Hi there Guysive recently opened a gmail email account, and have synced it to outlook 2003. now, i know how to sync the folders, but in outlook, it then creates another set of folders (inbox, drafts etc)what i would like to do, is use the default folders located in outlook only. is this possible? to sync up gmail, to the default folders in outlook 2003? also, when i write, read, send an email, it does not mimick this when i log into another pc to view my gmail account online, i have to read my emails again etc. doesn anyone know how i can sync me DEFAULT folders in outlook 2003 to my gmail account, and get them to work together?Hope this makes senseCheers

I have an issue with Outlook 2016 and gmail syncing.

The sync has been going on for 30 hours. I was using Outlook 2007 but uninstalled 2007, installed 2016 and imported the PST (6GB). I am running Windows 10.

All,

I'm having an issue with Outlook syncing with my GMAIL account. The send/receive hangs up for five minutes a time and I can't search my email while this is happening as well.

Does it do the same thing in another email client or using gmail? If not, then you might want to try repairing Outlook.

I use a shared email account between two computers to answer emails all at once. It is set up through a gmail apps account using IMAP. The problem that I am having is that marking messages as read does not sync between computers correctly. If I mark a message as read on one machine, it will not show up on the other unless I close and re-open outlook. It will show up on gmail.com right away though. I am using Outlook 2003 on both computers.

Any ideas on this one?

I have just figured out that if I click off of the inbox folder to another folder, and then back to inbox it processes marked headers and fixes everything. Is there any way to keep them up to date without having to do that so often?

I currently have a (free) gmail account. I use Microsoft Outlook (2010) to manage emails. I have an iphone and ipad that are linked to my gmail account. What I am trying to figure out is how to sync Outlook with gmail and therefore my iphone/ipad. Email already syncs but not contacts. I tried to download Google Apps Sync but apparently need a paid google biz account. When I tried to sign up for this it set me up with a new email address which I do not want. Is there a simpler way to do this? My goal is to update a contact in Outlook and have it automatically sync to gmail and then my iphone/ipad. Thanks - Katie

When syncing Outlook 07 contacts with 3G iPhone, the emails don't always sync.
I think what is happening is -
If the Outlook email Display As field is 'NAME([email protected])' iPhone will list NAME.
If the Outlook Display As is "[email protected]", then the email will display correctly in iPhone.
So...is there a way to globally change the email Display As to show only [email protected] in Outlook?

I've tried everything to get it to work I've deleted the account and reinstalled it, I've asked Microsoft for help who take at least 2 days to get back to me and even then they haven't given me a answer. All my emails seem to be ok going into my spam folder but I haven't bin able to receive a email in my inbox folder since the 13th November even though its saying I have 117 new emails

Hi there,

I've recently set my parents up with a Gmail account but am having problems with transferring their emails from an Outlook PST file to their new account. I've tried following the tutorial at the link below without success - mainly due to the fact that Outlook seems to be very unstable on their machine (hence the change to Gmail).

Are there any other ways of migrating these emails across to their new account? Note that the migration tool offered by Google does not work as the Gmail account isn't connected to Google Apps for Business.

One possible solution is that I could migrate their emails via my Google Apps for Business account though I imagine it would take forever to then forward these emails onto them (most likely manually using the Forward) option?

I use gmail quite a bit. I had it working fine with outlook 2013 until I tried to add another gmail account to outlook. I t opened a microsoft dialog bog that said the following:"Your IMAP server want to alert you to the followinglease log via your web browser: https:support.google.com/mail/accounts/answers/78754 (failure). This also lock up all my other gmail accounts.

Hi All,

I use outlook for about 4 email addresses (work and personal). I also do volunteer work for a charity and have an email address for that which is a gmail account.

I have tried repeatedly to set this gmail account up in Outlook but it didn't work. The only way I have found is to have two separate outlook account where I choose if I want to open my normal account of the charity account but cannot do both at the same time.

This is very frustrating as I need to be able to see my calendar and contacts when using the charity account.

Hi, when I searched the forums for posts on Microsoft outlook I found posts in the windows and the computer software areas, a majority of the posts appeared here so I thought I'd try posting here.Okay, here's my situation: I currently have an email account with Adelphia and I use Microsoft Outlook 2003 to access that it account.  I setup Outlook so that when I receive the emails from the Adelphia account Outlook removes them and transfers them to Outlook (meaning a copy of the emails don't remain in my Adelphia inbox).  I've decided that I want to stop using Outlook, mainly due to the fact that it makes it difficult to access my emails from computers not on my network account.  I've decided to switch to a gmail account (for other reasons involving irritation with Adelphia).My problem is that I can't figure out how to get my emails from Outlook 2003 to my new gmail account.  I've looked in the questions and answers section, the forum, and both faq on gmail and outlook official pages and still can't figure it out.  I think I've figured out a way to redirect new incoming mail, but that's not my concern what I need is to redirect my old emails.  I know that I could just forward all of my old emails to my new gmail account, but that will be a huge hassle and the emails would then show up as being sent from me and not the original sender.  If I can't figure out another solution I'll do th... I'm not absolutely sure but I doubt very much this can be done.  Think about it.  With Outlook, your mail is on your hard drive, not out on the Internet.  With Gmail, it is out on the Internet; it's web-based mail.  I looked at the info on Gmail on Google's site and, like you, found nothing about transferring mail from Outlook.  So, I no other option but to forward the mail to yourself if you really must get it all moved over to Gmail.

I'm transitioning away from using Gmail as my primary account, and have t set to forward everything to my outlook.com account. But is there a way I can bring my archived emails over so I don't hav to go to gmail to look for them? thanks.

If you move everything to the inbox, and choose to retrieve all in the pop settings it will retrieve all of it. Then setup your outlook like you want it

I have always used Hotmail with Outlook Express - I can send and receive Hotmail emails from my PC. But now that Microsoft have threatened to withdraw free POP access, I have decided to try GMail.
I have got my GMail working with Outlook Express. I can download all my received emails into a folder on my PC, but I do not appear to be able to download my sent emails.

Is there a way to do this?

I have laptops in two different countries and keep an archive of messages on each.
In Windows Live Mail it was easy to export messages to a USB stick, carry it with me and import to the other laptop.
But in Outlook I can't find a simple equivalent although I understand there may be 3rd-party software.
Is there a best solution?

So I got outlook 2013 on windows 7. Anyways I have setup about 4 email accounts. Now outlook beings to sync and its about 600 mb worth of data I have to sync to get all of my emails. Now problem is I don't want all of my emails. Is there way to just cancel the sync of600 mb worth of emails and just maybe select a week back or something like that?

I want our gmail emails to come into and be sent from our Microsoft Outlook program.. we have a slingshot email which is doing this, but none of our gmail emails are. I think that the incoming and outgoing settings are correct for the gmail address, so don't know what to do next..

so I just connected outlook 07 with my gmail account, after deleting unwanted emails in outlook, the deleted emails still marked as unread and still there in my gmail account.

does any know how do I delete emails in my gmail just by using outlook?

Depending on how you're connecting to gmail it may not be possible. I know it's not possible to delete emails on the web server if you're using an HTTP or IMAP connection. By default, most tutorials tell you to use IMAP and POP isn't enabled be default on a gmail account.

To Enable Pop in Gmail:

4. Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.

I use Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP and all emails I send to gmail.com accounts are appearing as blank with 'noname' attachments.

Until two days ago I had no problems sending gmail via SMTP.gmail.com. Now I get an error message saying 'Your outgoing server does not support SSL-Secured connections." No changes were made to the email account settings. I have checked them : the ports are correct and the SSL box is ticked for both incoming and outgoing ports. I use Norton and MS and both do automatic updates from time to time. I wonder if some update is causing the difficulty? Any ideas about what could be blocking my outgoing messages would be appreciated.

OK...Running Vista Home Basic on my Dell PC...5 days ago at 9:23pm I received my last email in Outlook (2007). Computer was idle at work. No problems for 4 years until now. 2 weeks ago went with a new ISP and did not change the codes for SMTP/Pop3/Imap because it was all working the exact same way--frankly, didn't think about it. Come in and there are no new emails. Hit Send/Receive and nothing happens. NO WAY, I get 50 a day. Go to Gmail account and it stopped at the same time. Find all new messages in Trash folder then all filters were removed to see what happened next. Emails were visible on screen (inbox) after that-and still are. After that, gmail icon started showing bottom right of my screen with my incoming emails--FROM 2009/10/11! All I had deleted last year and I am sure I emtied. My Outlook number of items in Inbox continues to grow every time I hit Send/Receive, lines "bounce" on screen as if items are going to appear but they don't. I get the outlook envelope showing emails from January to March 2012 downloading along with New Items in Mailbox icon as of today. I can hit on the email as it (icon) pops up and read it but if it passes it is totally GONE! Since gmail was fixed, about 7000 emails have gone into my inbox but not one of them are visible. I feel it will continue to download until we get to the present date as it is downloading from past to present. I have since entered the new ISP information, got the Congratulations on my test email... Read more

Any chance your old ISP was Rogers?

I thought that when you use POP , your email address is hosted and stored by the ISP.
Meaning, say your ISP was called Teleweb, your email address would have been [email protected].

I'm confused as to why you did not need to change the POP settings if you changed ISPs.

Im thinking your old ISP cancelled or disabled your email account, which may be contributing to the problem.

Also Gmail is webmail, so ISPs cannot influence how Gmail behaves. Were you forwarding your mail to the gmail account?

Hi everyone!

What is the best way to sync my emails, contacts, and calendar with my Outlook 2010 (win7 pc), iPhone, and iPad2?

Basically, I want to send/receive emails to all devices, and update my calendar and contacts on my Outlook, and then have my iOS devices update automatically be synced with my Outlook contacts and calendar, and vice versa.

I've used Microsoft Exchange in the past to do this, but it seems like over kill... and it's a little overcomplicated for me. I was hoping I could just do all this with Gmail, but it seems that I need MS Exchange to do it that way too.

Any help and advice is very appreciated!!!

For better or worse, I have a laptop and a desktop at home. I primarily use the laptop, but sometimes I use the desktop, which was my old office desktop and has a large library of relevant old emails, and some more recent/new ones. I would like to share/sync Outlook between them, as if they were one computer (although I don't think the two computers are even currently "networked"). How do I do this. The desktop is running Windows XP. The laptop is running Windows Vista. I am thinking of replacing the desktop with a new CPU which would have Windows 7, transferring all data to that new CPU and upgrading my OS to from Vista to Windows 7, tot he extent that changes/influences the answer to this question. Hi and welcome

It is poswsible. It requires a bunch of work and introduces multiple failure points. You could simply put all the mail in one folder somewhere and point both computers at that folder. That way you will always be using the most current copy of the document.

then there is the issue of having to have both computers on all the time, maintaining the newtork all the time, etc

Brief:
So we have a little networking group which is a Fun non-profit thing here in Atlanta,
and we have a little over 500 names on the mailing list and counting.

Question:
What is the Best Free solution to emailing the whole mailing list all in one go?

Problem:
Both Outlook and Gmail.com have restrictions over a certain number of email address's.
We tried Evite.com, but that has restrictions also, and many of those emails end up going to our recipients junk mail folder.

Insight:
We don't do any fancy invite newsletter stuff, but putting together a Microsoft Publisher mail-out would be a nice option. but we prefer the quick and simple shout-out with a few words on time and place!

Does anyone have a good solution?

I don't know about in the States, or about other ISPs', but my ISP here in Canada would require that I have a business connection, not residential, in order to do any kind of mass e-mailing.

in outlook 2010, i understand one can use a gmail account without actually opening up the gmail account, that is he can run the account from outlook, does that mean one can delete messages also, just like a regular account.
when i try to delete a message, it deletes it from the inbox of that gmail account in outlook 2010, but under the gmail folder it updates itself, and downloads it again, even after i delete it from the gmail folder also.

Hallo tapuz, you may have to sign into your gmail account and delete all your old messages.
From there select settings in the top RH corner
Then select Forwarding & pop/imap tab
In the pop download column go to option 2 and in the drop down box select delete gmails copy
Then select save changes.
This will stop gmail saving a copy once Outlook has downloaded it to your computer.

I upgraded to XP/Office 2000 from 98/Office 97 BUT needed Access 97 so kept W98 and XP/2000 on the machine but Access97 never worked right under XP - one "microsoft KB solution" was to reinstall office 97, which I did - then
Outlook 2000 can't find my PDA contacts - note that 98 is on my C drive and XP on my D.
How can I make my Computer XP Outlook Sync my PDA's contacts, calendar, etc. into the Computer's Outlook. Felix5 is the name of my PDA's Outlook.

I have a Windows 10 phone. I use the Outlook Mail app that comes with the phone. My current email is a Gmail. When I loaded my phone I used my Microsoft account, which is also linked to my gmail account. In outlook, I made sure to ADD my GMAIL account and use the snych settings for email, calendar and contacts.
Calendar is great, contacts are great. When I check my emails, the emails come in just fine.
When I delete an email in the outlook app on my phone. The email is still in my GMAIL. I have tried to look up different things I can do but I can only find responses that do not work.
I would really like to use the Outlook app for my phone, but sometimes I do check my email on a computer. I would like those 2 to work with each other. Not by themselves.

As I have a couple of Gmail accounts, I use Outlook 2010 (running under Windows 7) to consolidate them together and use it for reading, sending and archiving all my emails.
Until recently I have been able to manage my emails without problem, but within the past few weeks I have run into problems sending emails using Outlook for my Gmail accounts. Messages are stored in my Outbook but will not send. This does not happen all of the time, only intermittently, and even if I press the send/receive button, or reboot Outlook 2010, the messages remain in the outbox.
The only way I have managed to send them is to reboot my PC and then restart Outlook - then the messages send automatically as they normally should do and the outbox is cleared. However after a while, and not on every Outlook session, the messages do not send from Outlook unless I reboot my PC again.
I have checked my email settings and as far as I can tell they are OK (as they normally work):
Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com and port 995
Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com and port 465
and outgoing server set to require authentication.
I get no error messages - the emails just remain in the outbox until I reboot the PC.
Can anybody advise how I can resolve this issue?

I've been using outlook 2007 to send and recieve emails for the past 3 years or so (recieving from my website's pop server, and sending through gmail --- my website's domain has been flagged for spamming). Last week, I started getting this error message as I noticed that emails aren't being sent:

"none of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server"

I've tried double checking my login info, server settings, firewall, and even tried sending emails over a different network (work, home, starbucks..etc). I also changed the port number and security type as advised by gmail's troubleshooting...

Anyone have a hint for me???

hi all...i did a format on my c drive and re-installed windows xp...i backed up all my data but forgot to back up my .pst files.....now i really need them urgently and have no idea how to get them back..the emails are not on the exchange server either...i have tried various different data recovery utilities and softwares...pls help!!

I have XP home edition. My email was retreived from Bell South DSL through Outlook. When the Road Runner tech switched me to RR, the emails that were in outlook from bell south (but not read) went away. My log in screen tells me there are 9 email unread, but I do not know where they are or how to find them. Please advise.

See if they are in a sub-folder under your Inbox. He may have also created a new PST file for your new email account. DO a search on your hard drive for files & folders named *.pst

Could anyone help me find 4 days worth of business emails sent out of Outlook?

The arrange by settings were not right and somehow it stopped keeping my sent emails for 4 days.

It's now keeping them and the settings are right, but how do I get back the 4 days of sent emails?

P.S. I know it can be done, someone did it before but he can't remember how he did it!

I had someone move my data from an old laptop to new laptop and my Outlook isn't set up right.

I used to see in all my emails in Personal Folders/Sent - grouped by date - Today, Yesterday, Monday, Sunday, etc. My view wasn't reset properly and in trying to match the Sent settings to the other folders set up properly, I can't see 4 days worth of sent emails (business stuff).

I've had this happen before and someone else found them for me but I don't know how.

Can anyone help me please? I have important business emails I need!

Hello

I have lost my emails within a folder in MS-Outlook without any warning. The folder still exists but all emails within have disappeared. I don't beleive that I ever inadvertently deleted the contents no I have any filter applied.
Any suggestions in recovering emails will be greatly appreciated.

Outlook 2002 is known to have "database" issues at times. Hopefully you have a backup PST file that you can restore but if not I believe you are out of luck.

Ihave windows xp.  I was left with about 1,500 emails and all my sub files were left in tact..the computer guy cannot find those emails anywhere!There does not seem to be any sign of corruption that he could see..also the emails were from various years..not just from say 2007.Any ideas welcome, or any links where I can find out very specific instructions to do my own search would be great.  I know my guy has done his best, and he is baffled.thanksAJD24

Hi, my mother is pretty inept with computers but she has some important documentation on her email.
She tells me that recently she opened an email warning her of "deleting her emails" or something, now when I check it all of her inbox is gone. I upgraded her email software to live mail and imported the account but only new emails are showing up.
I looked in her storage folder and the inbox file is large (in the gb range) so it doesn't make sense to me that when I import the account that there is nothing to show for it. Why would there be data if there were no emails to show for it?
Only her inbox was affected, she still has her other folders still have their existing emails.

Try: View > Current View and make sure "Show all Messages" is ticked (and not just Show Unread / Show New email etc.)
Also worrying that you say Inbox in the gb range, as Outlook Express has a storage limit and it tends to corrupt once you go past that size limit.
Note: the easiest way to archive emails and save them as .eml is in the email client (Outlook Express) highlight them and drag and drop into a folder you've previously created in My Documents. This creates a copy and doesn't affect the email in email client (Outlook Express / Live Mail) These .eml can be opened with a doubleclick individually without the bother of exporting and importing.

Bit of a disaster today: booted up this morning, and got a Windows update reminder so went for restart etc. Nothing unusual.(I run W2000) However on restart half the files on the desktop had vanished, also internet access. Having spent most of today I have managed to find key folders of work (phew) and re-establish internet access. However all the recent emails sent/received seem to have vanished and it is as if I am starting from new with Outlook Express.No historical emails. I do have back ups to last June, but obviously the last couple of months relate to work in progress.So I guess this means they have gone for good - unless anybody has any bright suggestions?By the way I did do a quick scan in case it was something malicious but nothing showed up so I guess it is just me? Or is it.....

It must be me but I loose emails. They just disapear. I click out of inbox to see junk email and on return the emails that were there have gone. where are they? The only way I can find any is if I remeber who they are from and seacrh for them or go to the Mcafee spam folder and they are in the acepted file. Whats my problem? Is it me or am I just a blonde? Hi we've just upgraded to a new computer, and are in the process of moving everything across.We have been using Outlook Express for ever, and have been following instructions on how to backup and import/export emails from Outlook Express so we can use them on Outlook on the new machine.Somewhere in the process, we have lost about half our emails. I have tried to re-import the backup folder into Outlook Express, but these emails are still missing. Where have they gone, and is there any way we can get them back??(they seemed to disappear during the process of being imported into Outlook. I then went back to Outlook Express and they were missing from there too)I'm starting to get quite worried, there were some pretty important work emails in there.....

I have lost all the emails (about 20) from my inbox, plus all the inbox subdirectories have simply disappeared (about 10, with between 20 and 100 emails in each).
The sent items, together with all its subdirectories are intact, and otherwise all is functioning perfectly.
I use IE Express 6.00.2900.2180
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a virus on my computer and was able to successfully remove it, actually, my computer works better than it ever did so I'm sure other issues were resolved as well, but I lost my email messages (May 31 - present). I believe that I had a trojan virus. Anyone know how to get the emails back, I googled some information on how to do it but it was for Outlook 2003 and it didnt work for Outlook Express 2006. I also removed this on SAFE mode. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm running outlook express 6 on my XP Pro PC. I was browsing through old email sent by someone when all of a sudden the hour glass appeared. I waited for it to stop but after around a minute it was still there spinning. So I opened Task Manager and saw that the CPU was at 100%. Then I looked at the processes and saw that msimn.exe was using more than 200K in Mem Usage. After around another minute the hour glass was still there spinning and I couldn't get Outlook Express to respond so I ended the msimn.exe process in Task Manager. This finally shut down Outlook Express. However, when I opened Outlook Express again I found that my Inbox only goes up to 11/29/12. I have lost a years worth of Incoming email. My Sent folder is up to date but my Inbox has lost all of that email. I looked in Deleted folder but it's not there. I'm hoping this can be reversed with some expert advice. Can anyone please help?

I upgraded my system disk to a larger disk and cloned to that.

On startup of Outlook it reported that it had an invalid .ost file, to delete it and it would be automatically recreated.

Indeed it did, and all seemed OK, but now Outlook does not download any images in emails. It says “The linked image cannot be displayed” (for all http or https image links.)

After many links and hints, I tried to go into IE and set the: Internet Options/Browsing History –Settings/
And the size is 0, and no Current Location.

I can say “move folder” (although none is set) and browse to the standard: C:/users/name/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows,
And set some size for the cache, and it says – fine, I need to log you out/in to move the files.

After a re-login, the same folder is still empty, and IE is in the same no-folder and size=0 state, and Outlook broken.

Another site said to set the key for Outlook caching to point to a directory in this folder, and indeed there was such a folder there, and the name matched, so that seemed fine. Now after deleting it the required Content.Outlook sub-folder is not there.

Starting Outlook in /safe mode does not help. Changing user does not help. Creating a new Outlook profile does not help.
Resetting IE Internet options/Advanced/Reset does not help.
Log-in as administrator and delete users TIF folder sis not help (it was recreated).

Have lost about 4 months of emails from my Inbox. Searched *.dbx files and all that comes up is the current inbox folder. My computer is scheduled and does a weekly systems backup and a my documents backup, could my missing emails be buried in there? What can I do to recover/restore these important emails?

Have you tried a System Restore and then searched for .dbx files?
Where does the System Backup place your files? Have you searched in that location?

When doing a System Restore, you can undo the System Restore and revert back to the current status.
If the System Restore brings back the Inbox, you can copy the Inbox.dbx file to a flash drive then undo the System Restore and return to your current status.

I had been happily using outlook 2007 with outlook connector to manage my hotmail account. A few days ago because my account had been hacked I had to get the password reset via Microsoft.

When I got my reset details, I went to my email via windows live hotmail and everything looked OK.

However, when I went into outlook, it would not accept the new password and I decided to set it up as a new account. This all went very well but I noticed that the new account was not showing up to date emails - the last several days emails were missing. (I have also checked via windows live and they are now missing there also). I have clicked on ?send/receive all? but it seems to be taking forever to do things. That process eventually completed but the missing emails have not been restored.

Anyone got any advice? Should I delete all the accounts and start again ? would this be simple?

I will start at the beginning, it has been a frustrating couple of days since I had to reformat my hard drive.

I reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro sp1. I put the Microsoft firewall up to get the MS updates, and then I reinstalled Norton. I have a bug in my system that seems to be contained, for now that is.

I reinstalled office XP, and then i downloaded the update (SP3). I am not getting an alert that says that something is trying to get access to my Outlook contacts. I assume that it is my Hotmail account (yes, I do have the ability to download). I get the alert, click "OK" four or five times, and then Outlook locks up.

When I reformatted, I lost the software Sprint gave me to sync my Samsung i500 with Outlook. When I contacted them, they said tough, I had to buy more software. Frustrated, I broke down and bought Chapura. Now, I am probably so frustrated that I cannot get it started to sync even once.

Microsoft is now ignoring my requests for help to gain access to MSN mobile through my handheld. Does anyone have any infomration on how to get to msn mobile even though mobile.msn.com does not take me to a personalized homepage to get my information?

I am an intermediate user, so I know my way around a bit. I have a hijack this log available, as well as a Belarc run. Let me know if you need anything to help me with this problem. I am just frustrated.

Sometime over the last 7 days, all our email folders and mails disappeared. I have no idea how this happened and I have no back-us. I have done a Windows XP system restore to the earliest point 3 weeks earlier , but the mails are still gone. However, we are still recieving new mails daily as if no problem exists. Can anyone advise me if I might still be able to find them?

Hi all. Using Win10 for two months, Office 2013. all working ok. Today, after 10 day vacation I checked all my emails, answered them. I restarted the laptop bcause updates were done. After, Outlook didn?t have any of my gmail?s mails for the past 10 days in outgoing, and 2 days in incoming. and in the companies mailbox, I had none of the outgoing for the past 12 days, and it downloaded again the inbox.
Can someone help me recover mails???

I was recently attacked by a rather unpleasant trojan. During the process of backing up everything, I somehow lost Outlook Express and with it all my emails back to the year dot. I don?t know if this is down to the trojan or if I accidentally deleted it myself, though the latter seems a bit unlikely.A friend has suggested it may be possible to recover the emails but she doesn?t know how. I ended up doing a non destructive system recovery on my HP. Is there any way to recover my email express addresses and old emails since I use a comcast email? If you go to Start > 'Find' and look for '*.dbx'this will give you the location of all the OE folders and files. You could try importing these from File> Import > Messages in OE.Your contacts (Address Bookk) can be imported the same way. Address book files (*.wab) are usually located in Windows>Application data> Microsoft> Address Book.

I've just lost all my Folders & Mails in OE.I clicked on Empty Deleted Items in the Edit menu and everything disappeared. All my folders in Local Folders except for the default ones, have gone. Everything in the Sent items folder is still there.It seems that OE has defaulted to how it is when new. I am using XP and have tried System Restore back to last week but nothing has happened. My wife's version of OE seems OK with all her folders etc still there. Is there any hope of finding them all again?

Welcome.

Compacting should not "lose stuff", when you deliberately delete an email it leaves unused space within the email file.

Compacting just shuffles the remaining emails to better utilise that space, resulting in a smaller file.

In no way is it designed to delete emails that you need in the process.

Something else has occured I suspect? Did the word "Archive" crop up rather than compacting perhaps?

I recently purchased the new MS Office 2007 - Home and Student Edition. I was upgrading from a previous MS Office 2003 Professional Edition. I used to work out of my home and required MS Office Pro in those days and then when MS brought out Office 2007 - I no longer needed the MS Office Pro license (as I was now working at the office full-time) so I bought the Home and Student Edition for my home computers (although I bought 10 licenses of the MS Office Pro edition for my office.) I was constantly getting a message when I would try and download templates and clipart from MS website that my previous 2003 version was the professional version and my upgrade was the Home and Student version so it wouldn't let me download anything. I did some research and discovered that the best way to handle this would be to delete MS Office Pro -2003.
YIKES - I did not realize that MS Outlook was part of the Pro edition and I lost all my emails, addresses, plane tickets, theatre tickets, everything that I had filed in my emails. Do you have any idea how I might be able to get this back - I still have unused licenses of the MS Office 2007 Pro Edition if that would help. Any suggestions that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so the power went out at my company today. When it came back on, one of my co-workers had an issue after rebooting his computer. He opened up Outlook Express 6 and almost all of his emails were gone. I spent a few hours trying to find these missing emails with no results. I was able to find some .dbx files but none contained any emails after Novermber 2005. I did 2 Windows system restores at 2 different dates and the problem was not corrected. I must say I am stumped. Where could these emails have gone?? They have to be somewhere. Any ideas?

this comp is running Windows XP Pro. And it's a Dell 2.66 GHz. P4.

Actually, they don't have to be anywhere. System restore restores system files, not data files. If you think about it, you wouldn't want system restore to mess with DBX files because if you received 50 e-mails today, and then restored your computer back to a point yesterday, you'd lose all those messages. The power outage could have corrupted the DBX files.

Restore them from back up.

you could run a search for dbx files but if you have xp i would favour trying system restore.johnny.

I went to check my emails on Sympatico's Outlook Express one day and they just disappeared somewhere. This is the second time it's happened to me. can I find them?

my son ran the "detect and repair" option and we now have lost everything and need to configure a new email setup, is there any way to restore our previous set up including all old emails etc? I find it hard to believe it has deleted everything.I tried restoring "my PC to a previous time" but the only option was when this happened.waiting in hopecheers

Well... If System Restore has not worked, I doubt anything will... However, there is still hope... Who is your E-Mail provider? Sometimes they set it so that even though you read/delete e-mails in Outlook, they still save the message(s) on thier server... Contact them.[glb]Flame[/glb]

I have a HP Pavilion a1514n computer, Windows XP, Office 2003, and on 4/12 (early am) it suddenly rebooted itself and came back w/"System Recovery".  Thinking I was doing a "System Restore", I agreed.Originally I had 4 user accounts, w/ different email accounts  set up and now have lost all.  I have VERY IMPORTANT EMAILS that I have lost and have searched for the individual file names I had set up in Outlook but the searches come up w/no results.I have all of my other files and folders but they are not seperated by users.PLEASE HELP ME!

If you in fact did a system recovery then your hard drive was probably erased. What about any other personal files that may have been on there? Are they gone as well?

Hey guys.
Well My Windows 98 basically crashed and i have now loaded XP onto one drive and my info from 98 is on another drive ( c/d )

I have gotten access to all my files,documents ect....however I have not been able to get into my outlook express old file which contains 1000,s of emails that I desparatley need.
Even my very knowledgeable friend cannot help ( can't locate the file )....I said if anyone can it's you guys

Please help if possible

Answer:1000's of Outlook Express emails appear lost

if you haven't already, try searching for file named inbox.dbx on the drive you had win98 on.

I was reading this old, closed thread: http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/311961-how-recover-lost-outlook-express.html, as I have had the same problem as the original poster. I'm still using Outlook Express 6, on Windows2000PRO. On Saturday, I had trouble getting OE6 to finish loading one incoming email, so I closed the program using Task Manager. After that, several attempts to open the program failed, despite a reboot or two. Eventually, it did open, but I discovered all the emails in my Inbox since January of 2011 were gone. The other folders seem to be intact. I have a backup of the Mail folder with all the .dbx files in it from 2/15/14. That's the most recent one I have, and I can probably recover all but the last 1 1/2 years of my Inbox from that, but the thread I reference at the top offers some other potential options. I just don't know how realistic it may be to try, and if DBXpress is a good option, worth the $25 for the download (if it's still available, even) with a reasonable chance that I will recover most, if not all of the emails. Chances are, there is some corruption of the Inbox .dbx file, probably because it was huge and may have been automatically compressed, though I have no actual knowledge of that. I have not downloaded any new emails in OE6 since the problem occurred, as I was not sure if that would further decrease my chances of recovering the lost emails.

Ok,
My computer today was acting up, it was lagging and stalling a bit. So at first I rebooted it and it was still lagging, so I shut it down. After being off for a couple mins I restarted it and left, I came back about an hour later, logged in (Win 2000) and noticed that some of my applications that were kept open had been lost. For example, I have Apache installed on my computer. When the computer logged in it could not find the ApacheMonitor file which loads at startup. I then opened up Outlook Express and ALL my emails - inbox, outbox, and deleted were GONE. Is there anyway to get them back? I've been told no because I'm on a FAT32 HD. The thing is that my computer did not lockup, it just lagged a bit, I did no force bootdowns. If you need anymore information please let me know. I hope I did not lose all the emails....
 

Answer:Lost all Outlook Express emails (Inbox, Sent, Deleted)

hopefully you only lost the asssociation with the correct folder location, not the folders themselves

open windows explorer to :
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{bunch of numbers & letters}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

you should see a bunch of .dbx files containing your email files

if so,
then open Oe and go to: tools, options, maintenance, store folder - and make sure OE is pointed there

Hi,I moved a laptop (windows xp pro) over to log on to our domain and now it has lost the outlook emails and settings etc that were on there before! I've tried searching the whole hard drive, not just the C:\Documents and Settings\ folders and not found the right pst file. I've also tried a system restore but that didn't work. What can I do to get the emails etc back? Thanks,Ed Ross

Answer:Laptop moved to domain now lost outlook emails!

Was the laptop on Exchange if so look for .ost files then run OST"PST to convert them to pst files click here

when microsoft outlook is forced to shut down with emails open, where do they go? email was to be sent.
My old computer they would go to draft folder.

Here's what happened... While reading emails, got an error msg about "directDB.dll" not being present or something. Rebooted, but then all my Inboxs emails were GONE. When going to the folder, c:\\windows\Application Data\Microsoft~ etc, I found all files, including the INBOX. But it would not let me open it up again with Outlook.

Suggestions? Fix?

Hi All!
I found some messages vanished after I did a comapction on Inbox folder.
The OE has set to see ALL Message, and have tried using DBXtract to recover but no additional mail recover(just the same amount of mails in Inbox now).
Can anyone tell me why it happen and how can I do now? Thanks!

P.S.
I use Outlook Express 6, Windows XP Professional SP2.

If DBXtract did not find anything, you might try another program - but most likely there is nothing to recover.

Did you run DBXtract on ALL your DBX files? Sometimes, even though it was your inbox, the emails might get recovered from one of the other DBX files.

Go to Start->Find (or Search) and look for *.dbt files. For WinXP you will have to set the search to include hidden files and folders. DBXtract should open those. Perhaps the missing emails will show up.

One final note, do not save emails in the default OE folders (Inbox/Outbox/Sent Items/Deleted Items/Drafts). Make new custom folders.

HiI am having a slight nervous breakdown. I updated my Word 2003 to let me insert chemical equations for Uni... somehow, during the process, Microsoft Outlook has disappeared. Totally gone. I have done a search for 'outlook' and I get a folder and a bunch of blue "MOF" files...? There was a selection box during the 'Add components' window when I added the missing word component that said anything unchecked would be removed, but everything was checked, I double checked that.Before I do anything, is there a way to revert to the way my PC was an hour ago? More info - a search in C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlookhas found a .pst file (my emails, I hope) but no .pab file (address book?) It is my contacts that are important too, I hope they are possibly contained in the .pst file, it is 58mb.Also, this is NOT Outlook Express, but Office Outlook 2003.C

Hi!I configured outlook express via POP to view my emails at home, however i have since discovered i cannot see any of my inbox emails at work, i must have hit import messages or something. Any chance of getting these back to my LAN inbox?ThanksLahorie

I it's standard configuration, OE will download emails into your system and delete them from the server.If you don't want them deleted from the server, go to Tools - Accounts - Properties - Advanced and tick the box "Leave a copy of messages on the server.To get them back to your work server - Forward them to yourself from home - but do the send via Send/Recv button and choose Send All. This will send your mails but not automatically do another pickup.
