Outlook deosn't show emails after i hit "send/receive"

Question: Outlook deosn't show emails after i hit "send/receive"

Hi everyone,

Thank you for taking time to read my post. This started this morning; when i hit "send/receive" button, Outlook does its usual process and at the bottom right corner it shows the progress and it shows I recieve w/o any loss, but I don't see it in my reading pane. Plus after Outlook finishes "send/receive", it'll sometimes shut down. running Win xp srvc pk 2. Also when i restart i get a light blue screen and its performing a "Checking File System C:", and when it's done then it'll go to the login screen; any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Outlook deosn't show emails after i hit "send/receive"

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Did you ever find out how to get rid of that $^T#$#$ display. I have the box checked (not to display) but that doesn't do any good.

For some strange reason (aren't all of these computer problems strange?), every time I click on the "Send/Receive" button in Outlook 2002 I get a pop-up box that says "Operation failed". My email will send and receive on it's programmed time schedule, but not if I click on the button manually.

This just started yesterday as far as I know.

I've rebooted, run Spybot, Ad-Aware SE, AVG, and no problems show up.

Any ideas?

I use OE and Gmail, which is configured to display through my Outlook Express details page. Everything's always worked smoothly until a couple of weeks ago. Now, perhaps one in about every half dozen attempts, when I click "Send Receive", it freezes/hangs on the "Securing" part of the set up before it displays any messages. It remains frozen for about 15-20 seconds then I get an error message. If I try again it usually works?? Can anyone help please?

Hi I run Windows Vista Home Premium and Outlook 2007. I've set up POP3 access for Gmail and to download mail from (an Australian ISP). Initial setup was fine and I can send test messages to myself.

Recently I've had trouble sending (but not receiving) email via Outlook. The following error message is shown:

Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

This message occurs for both my email accounts.

If I reboot the computer, then sometimes the mail will be sent successfully. I've checked the "account settings" on Outlook- and they are exactly as those given by my ISP/Gmail. But when I click on "test account settings", the test message can't be sent.

What's going on?!

Answer:Outlook 2007 "Sending reported error"- can receive mail but can't send!!

Refer to the earlier query in this section dated 10th April under heading " OE suddenly asking for Logon Password" which shows possible ways of overcoming this . I reckon it's server problem as I had it re-occur a couple of days ago . My Mail is Btinternet which started rejecting my outward messages. I know that BT uses Yahoo so Isubstituted "" for "" ( OE/Tools/Accounts/Properties/Servers) and it immediately started working . So whatever the ISP says it IS their fault and somehow their systems start rejecting things for no valid reason .

Howdy folks,

After an uninvited guest visited my computer , and after we cleaned up his/her mess, a problem persists and I wonder if it indicates a larger problem.

When Outlook is not running, it checks for mail at regular intervals. When program is running, and I click "send/receive" the error "The operation failed" appears. When the program is running, it still checks at regular intervals.

It is possible that we screwed something up during twelve hours of cleanup, or it may be something malicious from the visitor.

It is weird. Any suggestions.

This problem started out on one of the machines in my office, now it's happening on several of them.

Machine config:
- Outlook 2007
- POP account
- antivirus regularly running/updating/scanning

- User is running outlook like normal, then all the sudden Outlook gets stuck "Preparing to send / receive". Clicking the Send/Receive button does nothing, and it just sits there forever, apparently never actually making contact with the servers or doing anything at all.

My fix:
- I have to close down Outlook, but that's not enough.
- Open task manager, even though Outlook is closed, there is still an instance of it running on the machine.
- Manually close that extra instance, restart Outlook.

Then all the sudden it works, it sends and receives just fine. I thought the first user may have had a virus, but I've scanned ALL the machines in our office with Symantec Antivirus and nothing came up.

Also, this doesn't appear to ever happen on the two machines in the office who are running IMAP accounts.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

My system crashed recently and I have had to restore everything. I reinstalled Outlook 2007 and was able to restore my PST file from a backup I had using the genie backup product. All my files and folders are now restored.

When I click on the send/receive button, I get this message "The operation failed. An object could not be found"

I deleted my email setup account (I'm downloading from my att account) and re set it up using the instructions on the att site. I also ran the 'repair' function off the Office CD and did the Office diagnostics.

Any suggestions?

I have a W7 32bit laptop and I do not have MS Office installed. I have been using Hotmail until a couple weeks ago when I was "converted" to email - which I like OK. When I'm using a browser - IE9 in this case - and when I click on "send link as" or "send page as", it launches Windows Live Mail and puts me in a WLM output email. I would instead like it to launch me into and an output email. How can I do this - or can't it be done at all?

If I've posted to the wrong board plz let me know which board to post it to.

Okay, so this weirdness has gone on for a few days now. I can't send or receive email at all. Nothing works and I've tried everything, well, almost everything.
When I go to "Tools/Send/Receive/ Send/Receive Settings/ Define Send/Receive Groups" nothing happens when I hit the "Define Send/Receive Groups" the cursor starts to turn in a circle showing action for like one second and then nothing. There is no progress report for Send/Receive either.
I'm at a loss. I need suggestions. Is this just a corrupted Outlook 2003??? Is the inability to open "Define Send/Receive Groups" related to the fact that my email wont send or receive.

I have Vista 64 bit. I use Outlook 2003. Recently I get emails that are empty. I also send emails with inserted pictures but the receiver gets an empty email as well.

I can attach but that doesn't always fit my needs. I don't know when this problem started...when I got my Vista or later. I used Outlook 2003 when I had my XP with no problems. I don't know if this is a Vista problem or an Outlook 2003 problem.

I need to get this fixed! Thanks to anyone that can help me.

I have a 6 month old Dell Computer - XP Home - 300 GB (half still available) - 2 MB RAM - Everything else is currently behaving itself except MS Outlook.I have MS Office - 2002, with the latest Windows update. I have PCcillin Virus and Firewall; CCleaner & VP16 registry cleaner. Have done defrag. MS Outlook was working fine, then one day it quit sending and receiving emails. I can still open/close existing emails. MY ISP techs are really good (in my opinion) and they say it isn't anything connected to my modem or router, etc. I have fiber optic service (love it). I have uninstalled MS Office, then ran both CCleaner and JV16 to clean the registry, etc., then reinstalled MS Office with the hope that that would work. Nothing was changed. So, I started using Outlook Express. I really want the MS Outlook to work, though. I now have thousands of emails in each program. 1) What might be wrong with MS Outlook?2) Is there a way to combine the emails from both softwares?Any help will be greatly appreciated!

In Outlook 2003, I can't send or receive emails. I keep getting error message 0x8004210b - re operation timed out waiting for a response from the recieving (POP) server. I have contacted my ISP who has checked out my email settings (which by the way work on my laptop). The ISP technician suggested I reinstall MS Outlook which I have done. Microsoft suggests that I might have a clash with my email anti-virus program (which is Trend Micro P-Cillin Internet security 2007). Outlook runs and opens, the calendar updates but the emails just stopped sending and receiving at the end of April. In desperation I set up an account in Outlook Express with the same settings and it worked. I am connected to the internet via an adsl router modem. There are two other computers on the router all receiving and sending emails. I still think its a block somewhere from P-Cillin but can't prove it. My subscription is ending in the next few weeks for P-Cillin internet security so I thought I might not renew and take it off the computer. But remembering the problem I had with removing Nortons on another computer last year I also would like advice before I try to remove P-Cillin Internet Security. Any suggestions to get the emails going again would be welcome or help in removal of P-Cillin.

When I send/receive emails on outlook express, outlook does not send/receive emails from all accounts.

I ve got 43 or so accounts/various email addresses for business, (one for each service I provide).

Outlook does not send/receive/check 3 or 5 accounts located at the bottom of the account list.

And I could only send/receive/check these 3 or 5 accounts individually

All accounts are checked for "include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing".

All accounts are properly set.

Is there a limit of a number of accounts in outlook?

or how to fix that?

32 accounts in outlook is the limit

v999 said:

There is a way around this problem:

Create another user account on your PC. Use Control Panel (User Accounts) for that.
Leave 32 email accounts at the existing Outlook and transfer the rest to the new Outlook created for the new user.
Set up Outlook for the second user. And import/export all those email accounts/details/info to this new Outlook
Use Start/Logg Off/Switch User to quickly navigate between Users and to send/receive emails from all Outlook accounts
You can create more User Accounts and more Outlook accounts and send/receive emails from a huge number of email addresses via multiple user accounts

Had an issue where outlook would receive emails but not send. It was Outlook 2010 on Windows 7.

The issue was that my broadband internet and email account was with one ISP, but I was temporarily using a wireless broadband USB from another ISP to connect to the internet. I am from Australia and my broadband account is with Optus, so therefore I have an Optus email account, but I was temporarily connecting with a Telstra wireless broadband USB which caused the problem.

Turns out that I needed to activate SMTP Authentication to fix this issue. This option is usually in the outgoing mail settings. The reason you have to do this is that the ISPs have to authenticate you before you can send via their servers when you are accessing the internet via a different ISP.

I have since learned that this problem can occur anytime you are away from your usual internet connection. If you are with Optus or any particular ISP you will have issues sending from Outlook if you connect via another ISP without selecting the option for SMTP Authentication.

Was such a simple fix, but took me so long to find so wanted to post the solution in case anyone has the same frustrating issue.

I have 3 computers in my home office. 2 of them are running Vista with Outlook 2007. The other one is running XP with Outlook 2003. Everything was working fine on all the computers until a week ago. Without any changes, the 2 computers running Outlook 2007 would not send e-mails.

We are using godaddy for our incoming e-mails and comcast for our outgoing e-mails. All the settings are the same on all 3 computers (servers, ports, etc.) The computer using Outlook 2003 can receive and send e-mails. The 2 computers using Outlook 2007 are not sending emails correctly. When you send an email on these 2 computers, the e-mail will go into the sent folder (The e-mail is not getting hung up in the outbox). That is what is really driving me crazy. I am getting no error messages. One of the things that is really intriguing is that when someone e-mails, you can reply and the reply will reach the receipient about 1/2 the time. It basically depends who the e-mail is sent from.

The computer that is using Outlook 2003 works perfectly fine. Same exact settings as the computers using Outlook 2007. I have tried to call godaddy, Comcast and everybody always blames the other. I'm beginning to think it is a problem with Outlook 2007. Any help would be much appreciated.

Spent over an hour reading the help section and trying every setting in tools > options

Simple problem really. I just want Outlook XP to automatically send/receive emails when I start it up and periodically afterwards. It used to work fine before for over a year. But now, all of a sudden, it doesn't work and I have to click send/receive button manually each time.

I have been to tools > options > mail setup and clicked 'send immediately when connected', but doesn't have any effect.

Thanks in advance for any possible advice you may be able to offer.

Answer:Outlook XP - does not send/receive emails automatically...

if it is anything like outlook express, then go tools, options...then under send/recieve messages (which is in the main tab) select "check for new messages every...mins" and set that to 1 that it will send and receive every 1 min.

it is most likely a configuration problem. look to see if the ingoing and outgoing server is the same, eg, and server means the name of your internet provider. aol, ntlworl, tiscali etc. incoming port 110, out port 25.
make sure that you have not inserted a space or a comma in error within the names of server

I am using Microsoft outlook 2003. I have set up two POP3 emails set up so far. Everything was working fine, until yesterday when I noticed that my emails were always sitting in the Outbox although the status bar says, "Email Send and Receive Completed". Moreoever, I noticed on my mail server that new mails are coming in but Outlook does not download them. Whenever I hit the "Send/Receive" button, it seems to be downloading it and the status bar says, "Email Send and Receive Completed". I go to Edit my Email account and when I test the account settings, all the test seems fine.

Also, more recently, the outlook send/receive progress dialog window pops up and keeps on trying to send/receive messages. It seems to be looping.

Can anyone please help?

However when i log him in as admin he can send/receive emails.
I gave him Full Control of HKLM\Software and C:\Program Files folder

I've set up my outlook 2007 account and it was working fine but now it doesn't send or receive email, all the email I want to send go to the Outbox. It's very irritating!!!!

I deleted my outlook account several times and made a new one but it still doesn't work. The information sent to me was to for incoming mail server was POP3. Port 110
and outgoing mail server SMTP. Port 25.

I used for incoming and for outgoing.

I have also checked 'My outgoing server(SMTP) requires notification' but still no hope.
Also to mention the Password icon popping up every so often even though I have requested my password to be saved.
please help me if you can!

Thanks Hasher:

So we are using an exchange server here and outlook is not sending mail. It can receive it, but it can send it. The mail just sits in the Outbox. Here is the funny thing I noticed. You can create emails and click send, but they go directly to outbox, no further. Then in the tool bar there is no Send/Receive button and I can't add it back in via the customize toolbar menu. It seems to have disappeared from there as well. Any help? Anyone?

I saw alot of people ask this question online, but not alot of answers.

Answer:Outlook 2003-No Send/Receive Button, Emails do come in...

are you hosting your own exchange servers? must be something not configured properly there...

try to add a pop/imap or web email like gmail or hotmail to outlook to verify that you can send receive fine and the problem is that the server is not configured properly

I've used outlook before to receive my yahoo mail, since I've formatted and reinstall my outlook, I can't receive/ send emails anymore

Win xp
my settings :
requires SSL, port 995
requires SSL, port 465
checked : my outgoing server SMTP requires authenticaiton

there is NO error when I send a test but I don't see messages in the "send" folder nor do I receive My test message.

Thank you

Answer:Can't send/receive emails form Outlook 2010

When you click test account, does it say both sending and receiving completed successfully?

Are these the exact settings that you had before you reimaged? Generally speaking the port or authentication setting is wrong when people have this issue. Try using standard ports w/o SSL.

I'm running Outlook 2003 on a Windows 7 desktop. It's been working fine for last couple of years. I had about 2000 open but unsorted emails in my inbox. Now, whenever I click send/receive, instead of just downloading new emails, it downloads the entire contents of my inbox again every time, so that I'm getting multiple copies.
Any ideas for resolving please? I bought a new small Intel NUC a couple of months ago, running Office 365 including Outlook on Windows 8.1. Could this be connected? Issue didn't start at that time though; only in last week.
Thanks Ray

Answer:Outlook 2003 downloads all emails on every send/receive

It sounds as if somehow, a setting might have got corrupted at your email server's end. Usually, there's an option to delete email from the server once you've received it in Outlook - but if the setting has got changed to 'keep a copy on the server', it might cause it to download everything every time.

Kindly advise on above question

Answer:Can send emails on outlook windows phone, but can not receive?

Welcome to Windows Central.
If your question was "Can I not receive emails in Windows Phone?", then the answer is "No, you should be able to receive outlook emails from your Windows Phone" - in all of the Windows Phones that I've owned (L610, HTC 8s, L1020, L535), I could send and receive outlook emails with no issues.
If your question was "Why can I not receive outlook emails in my Windows Phone?", then we may need more details. Make sure that your email+accounts settings are correct, especially the schedule for downloading mail - you may want to set it to download "As items arrive" so you would receive emails in your phone immediately.
You may want to create a Windows Central account to be able to respond to this thread.

I don't use Outlook so I am unable to figure this one out.

My son uses Outlook 2010 and is having to go to some extra steps every time he wants to send a mail. Here's what is happening:
He composes or replies to a mail and clicks "Send".
It goes to Out Box and is not sent.
It sits in the outbox indefinitely, even for days as other mail is collected automatically every two minutes. He says he has Outlook 2010 configured to send on receive/check; but, it does not send.
In order to send that mail, he must open the Out Box and then open that mail (that is just sitting there unsent) and click "Send" again and then and only then does it get sent -- from Out Box.
This happens with all mail he sends.

Hello All,
I use Microsoft Outlook 2003, and am unable to send any Emails at all even to myself, for the last two days, but have able to receive them from others.
The computer is a Dell Optiplex GX270, system is Microsoft Windows XP Prof  Version 2002 SP3 4CPU 512 MB RAM
My Web browser is Mozilla Firefox, internet provider Time Warner Cable, and they would not help me as they said my email is a "third party" (even though my email is a Time Warner email address) and they do not support any third party emails.
I have restored the computer twice back to when the Email worked properly to no avail, I have avast antivirus running continually, and I ran Malwarebytes anti-malware which only came up with some PUPs, and that didn't help.

Hi Everyone,

A work colleague came to me with a strange error that was occurring with his Outlook 2007 program. My colleague reported that he was able to send messages but not receive them!

Outlook 2007 was also supplying a cryptic error message:

A Google search failed to turn up any results on the error code (0x8000000600), and the standard actions, such as restarting my colleagues PC, and restarting the email server software (MDaemon Standard 11) on the server failed to produce a positive outcome.

I turned my attention toward the humble PST file, and decided that creating a new PST would be a good course of action. After creating the new PST file I set it to be the default file for future mail receipt.

My solution was a success and my colleague is now able to send and receive emails as normal, with the one change being that his mail is now delivered to the new PST file which I created.

The fix goes as follows:

1). Close Outlook 2007
2). Open Control Panel
3). Open Mail (Control Panel Item)

The Mail Setup Outlook dialog will now be displayed

4). Click on Data Files

The Account Settings dialog will now be displayed

5). Click on Add

The New Outlook Data File dialog will now be displayed

6). Click on OK

The Create or Open Outlook Data File dialog will now be displayed

* The default file name of Personal Folders(1).pst is likely to be displayed

* Either accept the file name or type one of your liking, e.g.: OutlookNEW.pst

Here's one for you Outlook gurus. I have talked to a lot of people about this (including 2 Outlook trainers), and they cannot figure it out. I am about at the end of my rope...

Here's the challenge:

A new entry is put into the Outlook 2000 calendar (double click on the time of the event.)
In that window, there is a drop down menu, which is marked "show time as." In that drop down menu, "busy" is chosen.

After the entry is completed and saved, that date does NOT show in bold, on the calendar pane. Instead, there is a grey box around that date.
When clicking on the "attendee availability" tab, the newly entered calendar event, does not even show up. I know the event has been saved, as it DOES show up in the calendar pane (with a grey box around it - not bolded, as it should be.)

Now, here is the weird part-
The entries that I am having problems with, were done in the last week or so. If I enter one right now, it will appear correctly. This only seems to be happening with older dates I have already entered.
Also, if the "show time as" drop down menu is set to "out of office", saved, then set back to "busy", the date will now show correctly.
This is a community calendar which is used by more than one person.

This problem is causing events to be scheduled at the same time, as Outlook is not recognizing when events have already been scheduled for certain dates.

A couple of variables:
1. The PC was recentl... Read more

I have a client who has Outlook 2000 installed on their server (MS Server Standard). I'm in the process of adding email automation to an Access database using Outlook. While setting up Outlook (it had never been configured before), I used account settings for a Cox account. While testing, I discovered that I would not be able to use that account (failed to logon to the smtp server- the client doesn't have an account so it access denied to the mail server). From there, I deleted the Cox email account settings and added a gmail account instead. All settings have been configured- pop and smtp servers, authentication, etc., however when I attempt to send/receive, Outlook continues to use the Cox server settings??!?

Again, the Cox server settings do not exist in the current email account I have set up. I've tried to add and delete the gmail account several times, along with trying to reset Outlook to a first run setting, but alas, nothing has worked. Any ideas, or does Outlook use an ini file somewhere that may contain the old account settings? (I've looked at the account file under users, but those settings- for gmail- are correct.

Thanks for any suggestions

I am a little confused with regard to some of the mail options in Outlook Express. (I have version 6) What is the difference between the "Drafts" and "Outbox" folders?

Further how does the "Send Later" option work from the file menu? I always thought that "Send Later" was the same as using "Drafts" but what happend was that I was doing an e-mail, went to Drafts, or clicked on "Send Later" or Outbox and then after I clicked on "Send" doing a regular send, I checked my Sent folder and about 3 copies of the same message were delivered to the same person! (I only sent one message-not 3!)

What is the deal with the "Outbox" folder? Apparently that is not like the Drafts folder....correct?

What's the difference between doing a Save, Save As, and Send Later with regard to OE functions? If I want to save a message that isn't done yet, which of these 3 options should I use? (I.e, I want the message to go to the Drafts folder for example and stay there until I TELL OE to send it.) I think whatever I did above was that I modified my message and then click on where it just automatically sent next time I opened the message. A review of these features would be helpful!

Just for the record, I also use Yahoo Mail and find that so much easier!

Answer:Please Review OE "Send", "Drafts", and "Outbox" Options

To save an E-Mail to your Drafts folder for work on later then you use the File\Save option.
If you wish to save the E-Mail in another format such as .EML or .TXT or .HTM then you use the Save as function. You will also be required to specify a folder to save in or use its "My Documents" default.
Send later function if only one e-mail account exists will place the e-mail in the outbox and send it the next time you click on the send receive button. If you have multiple accounts then you can specify which account to send it from.

My friend is having a strange problem with their computer. They are using Windows XP Home Edition. After composing a new email in Outlook Express, and hitting the send button. The Install wizard pops up as if something is being installed on the computer, and then a second window pops up with a message (sorry I don't have the exact wording) relating to Microsoft Picture It! Stating that the file is located on a disc or other removable media. It's as if Microsoft Picture It! is attempting to install. All of these windows can be canceled and closed. The email will be sent as usual.

They are using Norton anti-virus software, which is up do date. We also ran Avast virus cleaner. The computer appears to be free of viruses. We tried reinstalling IE and OE, but it didn't help. I was thinking about unistalling both IE and OE, and then reinstalling to see if that would correct the problem.

What would cause something this weird? I have never run across anything like this before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Normally when you try to send an email from a link from firefox via "file->send link", your default email program automatically opens assuming it's not already open. If Outlook 2010 is already open, no problem; it works fine. If it's closed, I get the error below about a dll error telling me to reinstall outlook 2010. if I manually open Outlook, I can then email the link.

If I insert the Office 2010 disc to try a repair, I get an other error (below) saying 2003 was not uninstalled properly and to uninstall it before I can do the repair (gotcha-catch22-can't get there from here, etc....). I see nothing in add/remove to indicate there is a trace of Office 2003 remaining. I can send screen shots of the registry if desired, but see nothing there indicating 2003 was not removed fully, but could be wrong. I'm fine with surgical edits if necessary.

I've been running Office 2010 for a year with no other problems beyond this and it's possible this existed from day 1 and it just took me a while to notice it..

Any suggestion on how to either fix the dll issue directly, or deal with the 2003 uninstall hopefully without uninstalling 2010 and starting over?

I do not understand why, as when I send it, it shows up in my email that I am sending as a whole page. I sent it to me and it showed up as a whole page. Yet, when I send it to someone else, the pictures do not show up, and it is all html code and lines and jpg's.

Using Outlook 2000 with multiple POP mail accounts, on one machine when I did this I had a little drop down next to the send button that allowed me to choose which account to send a new email message from.

On a different machine (still Outlook 2000) the second account was set up but there is no choice and it sends through the default account only, does anyone know how to fix this !

I have tried looking in the file menu but it only has "send" but it should have "send using" as well.

driving me crazy !

Answer:Outlook 2000 - multiple accounts but no "send to" option!

Hmmm, if you have the multiple accounts set up properly, then you should be able to have the little drop down arrow on the send button to select which account to send from, but . . . .
right-click the toolbar int he opened mail and select Customize. In the Customize window, click on Commands tab, File in the left pane and scroll down in the right pane tioll you see Send Using. Click and drag that to where you want the button to appear on the toolbar and let go of the mouse button.

Click Close.

Now you can click that button to select which account to send with.

If the 2 accounts do not appear, then you do not have them both setup correctly.

Did you try changing the from field to represent the mailbox you are trying to send on behalf of. Also on the Exchange server they can give you implicit rights which will make it not say sent on behalf of.

Hi there ... (hope my english is not to bad) ...

I have a Team of 5 people. Each team meber has its own email-adress / email account. Customers can reach individuall members by the individuall email- or the whole team by the email-list "CM-Mngt". So far so good.

Problem:If anyone replys to a customer (via his individuall email account), he puts the whole team in "cc", so that they are infomend.
But if the customer replies, most of the time they only reply to the one teammember. If this teammeber is of sick / vaction, the rest of the team stay?s in the "dark".

Looking fo a solution:Is it possible to configure the Outlook-Server / Account that way that:
Each teammeber is able to send either as him self, or to send an email with "Send-As", using n special/extra Email account called i.e. "CM-Mngt".
This CM-Mngt" account should only be able to SEND emails and does (should) not have an IN-Box.
If someone replies to on of the "CM-Mngt" Emails, Outlook should than use the Email-Mailinglist "CM-Mngt" to distribute the email to all teammeber individually (therefore the "CM-Mngt" account does not have an In-Box).
Would that maybe be possible with rule such as "if ryply button is used = always replay to email-list "CM-Mngt" and not Eamil-Account "CM-Mngt".

Thanks for your help

In any windows app (or at least all the ones I've tried), if I choose Send - As Attachment, outlook will open a new message, but the "Send" button seems to be disabled. It's not grayed out and it looks like I've successfully clicked on it, but it doesn't send or close the message. There's no error message - nothing. It's as if the button itself is fine but there's no action specified for the click. All the other toolbar buttons seem normal.

However, if I create a new message in outlook, and add the same file as an attachment, it sends the message with no problem.

I'm running Office 2002 SP3 on Win XP Pro Version 5.1.

Obviously since it doesn't completely prevent me from sending attachments, this isn't a huge problem, just an irritation, but I'd be interested if anyone knows anything about it.

Alright, this issue stems from a bizarre Outlook 2003 "feature" (bug?). My setup looks something like this:

Personal Folders
+ - Archive
+ - Inbox
+ - Sent Items

Sometimes, instead of dragging an email to "Archive", I accidentally drag it to "Personal Folders". Outlook allows this, strangely, and the email is then stored in the "Personal Folders" folder rather than the one I wanted. But, if I click "Personal Folders" in an effort to view the hidden email, Outlook takes me to the "Outlook today" screen.

I know there is a way to un-hide these emails because I've done it before: my question is how? Googling is difficult because using the words "Personal Folders" results in a bunch of irrelevant hits since the context I'm using it in is different from the normal use of the term.

Thanks for any insights!

Happening to a certain user, Outlook keeps forcing the user to "download" before opening the actual email and this only happens when the email has attachments. It does not download or open the attachments though. I made sure the Trust Settings are set to prompt before downloading anything.

Answer:Why does Outlook 2007 "download" before opening emails w/ attachments?

and what kind of email setup is this on?

Is this possible? I Googled some suggestions, but I wanted to come here because you people have helped me before and not steered me wrong.

I am wondering if....and hoping that....I can retrieve a couple of emails. I deleted them by mistake and, of course, my boss asked me for those in particular! Not any other ones! The ones I mistakenly deleted! MONDAYS!!!

Anyway...I am curious about where the .pst file is that I'm thinking I need. We have a server here at work that we backup our emails to. Is this where any deleted files would go or do they go to the archive.pst file (on my computer) that I've been reading about when I Googled this?

PLEASE HELP ME!! Please tell me I can get them back!

Answer:Recovering "Shift-Deleted" emails in Outlook 2003

I don't actually think there is a way to get back files once they have been shift-deleted, as that bypasses storing them in the deleted items folder (unless you still hold a copy on the mail server that you can re-download).

This site seems to think that the following will work, so it may be worth a try - but I wouldn't hold out too much hope

I was overhearing this discussion by the IT guys in the office, and I wanted to see if this was possible.

Let's say my company uploads/backs up everyone's email at 7pm every day. They upload all your sent, recieved, and deleted items. But is there a way that if a particular email was recieved then deleted, that there is a directory somewhere, or a function within Outlook itself that will allow me to delete even these items so that they are not uploaded at 7pm?

Answer:Outlook 2K3 - Removing deleted emails from "server upload"

Does your office use an Exchange server or just pop servers with local PST files?

If its local PST files all you have to do is delete it and remove it from the recycle bin.

My manager's pc is running xp sp2 and outlook 2003 sp2 on a HP compaq dc7100.

When he randomly opens emails (by double clicking on them, not previewing/reading) and tries to print them (either menu/icon/right click), he gets the error "operation failed".

A reset doesn't fix the problem and I'm aware that html pages need to be opened properly before printing, but like I said, he opens them and gets the error.

Does anybody know of a solution/patch or an explanation?
Or is there anything else I should check for?

The emails he gave an example of have rich text, not plain black and white. But there are plenty of rich text emails that do work.

When viewing the list of received messages, I see the date and subject collums; but not the "From" collum. The field chooser option opens; but, when I click on "From", everything in there is grayed out and I cannot add the From field.

Answer:Outlook 2007 Doesn't show the "From" field.

I finally figured it out. The "Field Chooser" item in the manus is misleading. It has nothing to do at all with changing the view of the fields columns.

Hi all,

I'm puzzling this one. In the folder options when I choose 'view' the radio button to show the hidden files is missing. I've already checked the registry at the HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Advanced/Hidden

and everything seems ok (value for 'Type' is 'group' etc.). Using the XP tweak (Kelly's corner #155) shows the hidden files, but the button still missing.

Another thing that I encountered with was that from the start menu the "Help and Support" not working. Again, the registry seems fine, and the process is activated (started). This came up when I tried to use system restore option - with no success.

Virus scan didn't find alerts of any kind

To make a long story short- below is the log file of HiJackThis. Please review it and reply if you see something to be concerned with for repairing my computer.

Answer:missing "show hidden files" button + "Help and Support" not working from start menu

Ok I found the answer (after quite a lot searching), as follows:

1. for the 'Hidden files' radio button - I used methods 1 and 2 from here-

2. for the helpcenter I just reinstalled it as described here -
note that the file 'dataspec.xml' is needed to be available for this, and it can't be done directly from the XP CD. The thing that worked for me was to insert the XP CD, and use the file that in my computer (C:\) and afterwards another file on the CD.

Again, all this happened with no virus detection, so I believe that there is no infection. However, if someone has remarks on the HiJackThis log I've put, feel free to add them.

Have a nice day,

Outlook 2007 "Enter Network Password prompt" and wont retrieve emails. I have already deleted and reset the account & have changed ISP email password so we know it's the right PW, sort of at a loss right now. Any help greatly appreciated TY in advance.

Answer:Outlook 2007 "Enter Network Password prompt" and wont retrieve emails

Removing and setting the account back up was the right move. Some people swore a reboot was needed after this was done.

Just to be 100% on the password, try going to a web service like and see if you can retrieve your email. At least then you're sure the email and password are working just to eliminate the obvious.

I also read that if your mail servers settings are "" for example, remove the mail.

Are you accessing the mail from multiple devices? That can cause an issue.

Outlook worked fine until recently. Have it on my home computer, used it for years, have Windows 10 but that was installed some time ago & Outlook has been working until recently.
outlook is also on my smart phone, but those same people are not getting emails sent from the phone nor do I get their replies on the phone. Others get them and answer them no problem. ??

WinXP Pro SP3 - Office 2007 - the owner of this PC uses both Outlook Express (OE) and Outlook for email. Why? Who knows. OE is working fine, but all incoming mail messages in Outlook are listed twice in the Inbox. Outgoing messages are sent just fine. I've never been a fan of Outlook (or OE for that matter) as it seems to be cumbersome and problematic (IMO rolleyes ). Anyway - I haven't had much success Googling this problem; I can't quite come up with the right set of serch terms.... so - why the heck are all incoming messages listed twice in the Outlook Inbox??? And how do I get it back to single listings?

Answer:Outlook 2007 - incoming emails are "doubled"

Googling 'duplicate messages in outlook' throws up quite a lot of results, though whether any will actually be of any use is ????????????

Been running 2010 for about 11 months now on a hosted Exchange Server, no problems at all until this past Sunday.

Almost all of the roughly 125 emails in my inbox list the sender as me instead of the actual sender. When a new message comes in, the taskbar notification popup displays the correct sender's name but in the actual inbox my name is displayed under "From"

When I open any of the messages the correct sender's name and email address are displayed.

This is a head scratcher for sure and confusing when trying to scroll through looking for someone's message or reply. Anyone else run into this/know the solution?

P.S. Running a Dell Studio 15 less than a year old, fast processor, 8GB RAM, etc., etc. No other computer problems at all, just this quirky email problem.

Answer:Outlook 2010 "From" emails all list my name instead of senders

If you enable the preview window/reading pane, and then click one of the emails in your InBox, is the name at the top of your email as seen in the (preview window/reading pane) from the person that it sent it to you, or your name?

Hi all, first post here (great site)

Looking for help with the following problem:

Having a problem with some blank email's within Microsoft Outlook 2007 using exchange 2007, Within some of these messages, I can see the source and attachments with no problems. The messages can also be viewed within Outlook Web Access.

I have re-created the local outlook profile, switched to cached exchange mode, and have even re-installed outlook, and still having same problem. Have also tried disabling the local anti-virus on the machine (mcfee)

The messages can come from any place, either internal, or external to the company.

Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance. Jeremy

Hi all, for over a month I've had this persistent virus (im assuming thats what it is at least) that takes over outlook whenever i open it and floods my inbox with "delivery failed" notices. I think the virus is using my email address to send out more spam or something, and its getting blocked by other people and sent back...

I've tried different virus scanners and virus protections, but nothing comes up. I also tried a trick of setting a fake account as my "default" so the virus will try and use that one instead. It seemed to work... for about a month but then the virus came back.

heres a picture of what it looks like, it floods non-stop sometimes, till my entire inbox is full!
anyone know a solution? I dont want to have to change my email!

Answer:Outlook flooding with "delivery failed" emails

Please send us a HijackThis log. To download HijackThis, go to Install it, restart, and then run the program. Select the option that allows you to create a log, and then post it here.

Is it possible to create a "send only" account in Outlook 2010? I don't want to receive mails on the account. I use MAPI and no Exchange server.

Answer:"Only send" account i Outlook 2010?

I know how to do this in Outlook 2003. It might translate loosely to 2010. You have to edit the Send/Receive Settings and define the Send/Receive groups. The keyboard shortcut for this in Outlook 2003 is Ctrl+Alt+S.

so i noticed a weird problem on a clean vista 64 sp1 install. I was in picasa, selected some photos and then hit "email" but outlook 2007 never popped up. i thought it was just a weird picasa problem so i kinda ignored it.

then i just tried right clicking on a small file, choosing send to, mail recipient and the same thing happened with outlook 2007 not opening. it should have opened a new message with the attachment.

I used vlite to tweak and edit down some services and now i think i inadvertently got rid of a service that is required by the send to or something. I really was very conservative with what i tweaked out so i have no idea what it could be.

anybody have any ideas??

Answer:Vista 64 "Send To" won't open outlook

Re-enable any/all services you might have disabled.

Really best practice with Vista is to leave her alone and let her do her thing. Especially with a system of your specs, the upside of "tweaking" is very minimal...

Maybe try re-installing office?
