Access 97 database in Access 2000?

Question: Access 97 database in Access 2000?

Ok I have one more question-a few people have other versions of Access in my program and need to use the database that I created in Access 97. A few people tried and couldn't open it. Is there an easy way to converting this so they can use it on their computers? Thanks for the help.

Preferred Solution: Access 97 database in Access 2000?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Access 97 database in Access 2000?

Access should prompt them to either open the DB file or convert it to the newer version on startup. If it doesn't you can open the newer version of Access and go to Tools > Database Utilities > Convert Database.
Warning: Everything in your DB may not convert properly so be ready to do some work if this happens.

I have a membership database created by someone who is no longer available to consult. It contains fields to check for organizations joined. The information was for 2008. I am getting ready for a new year and would like to keep the 2008 information but create a new form that clears those fields to insert 2009 information. Do I need to copy the 2008 database and save as 2009. I know this will sound crazy, but how do I do that? When I open the document and click save as it says save switchboard to _____________; save as _____________

I have been playing around with my copy of MS Access just to try and find out how it works. I put a Table in and then a Form trying to show the Electricity readings and hence costs! (I have a similar one in Approach which works fine!)I have tried to get the Form to actually calculate the actual units used in a quarter by having Fields of "Present Reading" and another of "Previous Reading". The Units used then should be "Present Reading-Previous Reading". No it doesn't, it doesn't give any figures! This is what I have in Approach, but it will do nothing in Access. Is there any way that the Form can calculate the Units figure?I hasten to add, I am only playing with it to see if I can get it to operate as a reasonable Database, but I must admit, so far I have been singularly unsuccessful!!TonyV

Answer:MS Database Access 2000

You need to set the text boxes in the form to be "bound" to the fields in the table. You can do this by either using the Create Form wizard and selecting the fields or by setting them in the text boxes' properties (e.g. Control Source = "Present Reading"). You then create a new text box and set the Control Source property to "=[Present Reading]-[Previous Reading]"

Can someone help me conceptualize what Iím trying to do here? Our organization keeps track (for grant funding purposes) of statistical information. In this particular instance we track the number of telephone calls we receive requesting assistance that we are unable to provide. These calls need to be tracked by the following: date of call, callerís sex and county of origin (one of five), which agency(s) the caller was referred to (22 different possibilities) and what services the caller requested. This information is compiled at the end of each quarter, grouped by month and totaled by number of callers per sex per each county and by the total number of calls to any particular referral agency (can be one of 22).

This is currently being tracked on a large Excel spreadsheet. The receptionist completes information by hand on a tracking sheet and I am expected to compile and enter the data on the spreadsheet each month. At the end of the quarter, results are totaled and the spreadsheet is forwarded to the requesting grant provider.

I would like to set this up in a little Access database so the receptionist could enter the information (once) on a pop-up form. At the end of the quarter, I want to be able to produce a report that provides the same results weíve been getting by using the spreadsheet. Initially, this seemed pretty simple until I realized that each call could be referred to as few as none or as many as 22 different agencies! (Typically, callers are referred to a... Read more

Answer:Need help database concept (Access 2000)

Database is a far better solution and it wouldn't be that hard. One table for the caller and any info pertaining to them. One table with the agencies, and one for services. Then one last table to track the activity for each client. The one thing you need to try to avoid is duplicating client records by setting up a search page where you can verify the client being in the db or whether they are a new client.

Can someone tell me the most efficient and secure way to backup a secured database?

I have a secured database (usergroups, names, etc.) and I want to be able to back-up the db's info in the event that the database crashes. Currently, I'm exporting the necessary tables to an outside database (which is in a different directory). However, I don't think this is the best way to go about backing-up the db because the db that the information is going to IS NOT secured. As a result, someone can obtain the db's info from there.

Please help!

Answer:MS Access 2000: Backup A Secure Database

I presume that the database is not located on a server that gets backed up nightly, right? Can you just copy the database to another location? It should bring the security with it.

Hello all,

After a long hiatus, I am trying to get a hockey database working. It was originally created in Access 97 and was recently converted to Access 2000.

One of the key forms in the database is one that I use to enter the results of each game. The primary form records basic information such as how many goals were scored in what period, and a recap.

There is a subform that looks like a spreadsheet, with columns for team name, player, and individual actions, so there is one row for each goal or penalty that occurred in the game.

In the subform, when you select a team from the drop-down, the next field (the player drop-down) is populated with the valid list of players on that team. I did this by running the following after someone selects a team:

Option Compare Database
Option Explicit

Private Sub Team1_AfterUpdate()
DoCmd.Requery "Player_ID1"
DoCmd.Requery "Assist1"
DoCmd.Requery "Assist2"
End Sub

This worked fine last year, but once I opened it and converted it to 2000, I get the following error as soon as I select a team from the list:

Runtime error 2488:
You can't use the ApplyFilter action on this window.

When I go into debug mode, it's hung up on the first DoCmd.Requery row in the above sub.

Now, this thing was put together originally with much help from much more talented people than me, and I literally have not touched Access since then, so what little expertise I had has flown out the window. So, I might be hard-pr... Read more

I have a 3 PCs peer-to-peer network sharing to use a Access DB file which resides in say PC-A. Most of the time PC-B and PC-C would open file to do data entry.

PC-B never has any problem.
PC-C the person has been complaining records missing... say she puts in new records 2 days ago, now when she opens the file she cannot find those records. This case does not happen all the time, just hit & miss!
All PCs are WIN98 running Office 2000.

Ques:
1. Do I need to apply any fixes (SR1?)
2. Is there any sharing issue that I missed?

Currently all I am doing is making PC-A with a shared folder to house the Access data file.

Pls advise.

Is it possible to rename a secured Access 2000 database without messing-up the security permissions?

A number of employees (including myself) are using a secured database that I created. I want to change the name of the database but I'm worried that the .mdw file isn't going to recognize the name of the new database. Therefore the security permissions may get messed-up. That is my concern anyway... I used Access 2000.

I am very much a novice in building databases. I am trying to build a database to store test results.I have created two tables so far, one for details of the person performing the tests, one for the test results. Included in the test results table is the following:

"Tested by"
Customer info
Details of equipment (serial number, subtype etc.)
Yes/"N/A" tickoff for test procedures carried out
Output power measurements (for up to 36 ports)

My question is whether there is a better way of doing this? There are many many fields in the test results table. I tried separating the output powers into a separate table on a one-one relationship by serial number. I couldn't figure out however how to enter the data into two tables from one form.

Another question I have is whether the format/appearance of a query can be based on a word document? The results were previously stored as word documents (which were printed and sent to customer). I want to be able to create and print the same reports from this data base

Thanks in advance,
Michael.

Hi there
am finalising a database for workplace and hoping to include feature to send emails to several people at same time from Access. I understand I need a code for this, can anyone help? We're running Access 2007 but using database in Access 2000 format. Worth noting that this is a secured database and I have already tried instructions at www.uwec.edu/HELP/Word03/MM-email.htm and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/208933 but no luck.

Also having problem importing data from Excel spreadsheet into that Access database. Worked several times before (including with some data in that spreadsheet) but now coming up with error (without any detaio about what's wrong). Spreadsheet contains loads of data on several worksheets and data has been worked on quite a lot (mainly for cleansing), all fields and formatting match those in Access and yet won't work any more. Any ideas as to what my be problem??

Thank you!

Answer:Solved: Mass emailing in Access 2000 database

Sev, I have posted various copies of the emailing VBA some of it quite recently.
The Excel problem sounds like someone has put something in a cell that doesn't belong there, it is uaually text when Access expects a number. You should have an Import Error table generated with the rows and fields that have the error.

Hi there,

I am attempting to export a table from Access 2000 to a .txt file, which will then be merged into Adobe InDesign CS2. I am following the instructions from InDesign to accomplish this merge, which requires that the file be in a .txt or .csv format.

I am trying to keep my list from the table in Access 2000 in alphabetical order, which is how the design of the table is saved. When I export the table to .txt format, it un-alphabetizes the list. When I select "Save Formatted" during the export process, I end up with a .txt file in a code that InDesign will not accept in the merge.

I have tried exporting the table to Excel and then to a .txt file, but InDesign will not let me merge the files that are created that way.

Any ideas about what I can do, short of exporting the table anyway, and then seeing how well I can manually cut, paste, and alphabetize the fields?

Thanks!

Hi again, everyone. I'm having some Access woes with which I have been unable to find help about around the web, as my circumstances don't seem to fit other reports of this problem. I get the dreaded:
The database has been placd in a state by user <name> on machine <name> that prevents it from being opened or locked.

Here's the kicker, its used actively by 2 users, when user 1 opens it, user 2 gets that error (or any other person that tries to get into the database), if user 2 opens it first (or any other user) then any and all users that open it up can use it without any problems.

Now, I don't have any plugins in use, no VB code getting data from other sources, or mail merges, or anything like that, everything in this database is internal. What I can't figure out is ONLY user 1's computer will lock the database and ONLY when she's the first to open it.

Any Ideas?

Answer:Access 2000 - Database Locked when opened by a specific computer.

See if there is a left-over <name>.ldb file in the same directory as the <name>.mdb file. the LDB file (Lock Data Base) is where Access keeps track of who has the file open, which record is being accessed, etc. The LDB file is supposed to get deleted with the database is closed, but if there is a crash or something weird then LDB file can get left behind.

If you find an LDB file just delete it and try again.

Both computers are running on Windows 10. I considered copying the laptop database to my Kingston Data Traveler but I can't even find the directory where the database should be.

The only other thing to add Is that I programmed the record input software using Access 2003 and copied it onto my laptop with Access 2013 installed and which works fine. Later, I saved the MDB database into the Accdb format (Access 7).

I would be okay to just close the master db, all it has it the main menu or leave it open. Doesn't matter which I just want to open the called db and form and have its focus.

Hello, I am using Access 2000 and have created a database with a command button that opens up a report via a macro. I would like to know how to open up single reports instead of pushing a button that brings up every report, I've been able to open up reports that are based off of queries, queries that have paramenters that need to be inputted in order to bring up single unique records, but I would like to be able to just create a button that brings just that particular unique record-report off of that particular unique record on that form. Meaning that for a record that had just been inputted for John Doe on a form, I would like to know how to create a button on that form to pull up John Doe's single report without having to build a query that asks for a parameter. Is there anyway to do this?

Answer:Access-Printing a single report off of a single record from an Access database form

You will have to adapt this to your own form setup; but it's just using the Where line of the OpenReport macro action.

If on the form MyFormName you have two controls called txtFirstNm and txtLastNm, and in the query underlying the report you have two fields called FirstNm and LastNm, you would put into the Where line of the OpenReport action:

Code:
[FirstNm]=[Forms]![MyFormName]![txtFirstNm] And [LastNm]=[Forms]![MyFormName]![txtLastNm]
Hope that helps.

I tested the application on my kids' laptop, which also has Vista & Access 2007, but I don't see that problem. I'm on SP1 for Access 2007, but my customer is not. He claims to have updated his Access, but no luck.

I noticed that both of the problem fields used the UCase( ) function, so I removed it. One of the fields is OK now, but the other one persists.

The problem field contains:
=Mid(DayOWeek(Weekday([Date1])),1,3) & "."
"DayOWeek" is my own function that returns the day of the week spelled out.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Pete

Answer:Access 2000 App displays #Name? in Access 2007

I do not have Access 2007 (thank the fates) but if that is the only field using your function and it is the only field that now has a problem, that strongly suggests that 2007 does not like your function.
I am not sure what your function does, but if it is to produce the day of the week from a date, i.e. Monday, Tuesday etc then you can achieve the same thing much easier by using
format([Date1], "dddd")
which might help.

Can anyone PLEASE tell me how I go about making a field a REQUIRED field. I have created a data access page which will be access by several users via our intranet. I want a error msg to pop up if a particular field is left blank. HOW do I do this via the data access page?

Answer:Access 2000 Data Access Page

Go into the design view of your table. click on the field that you want to be required. At the bottom of the screen there are some properties about the fields. In the required field change it to yes.

This will automatically make a pop up box that warns the person entering data that they cannot move onto the next record without entering info in this field.

Good luck.

Hi,

I have an access 2000 database that I cannot view in design mode in 2003. In access 2000 I used to press the shift key and open the access 2000 database. It would then open up the data base for me instead of starting it in start-up form. But now when I try that in 2003 it just gives me the startup box, basically what a user would see when entering information. I was wondering how I would be able to view the database in access 2003 as if I was pressing the shift key and opening it up like in access 2000. I imagine it has something to do with the macros?

Is there a way of setting up the database in access 2003 (so I can view the data inside) instead of starting up the form

Thanks,
Cathy

Is there a way to do this? I'm trying to open an Access XP database on Access 2000 and I'm getting an error message that says "this database is in an unrecognizable format" then it goes on to say I'm possibly trying to read a file that was created in a later version of Access, which is true. But is there any way around it?

Answer:Reading Access XP databases on Access 2000

Get the viewer from the MS web site or save all of your Access db's in Access 2000 format.

Two years ago I found an Add-In for Access 97 which makes the Outlook 97 Database available as linked tables - on-line links to Outlook - no Outlook export files.

Unhappily this does not work with Access 2000 and Outlook 98. There are some columns missing in the Access view of the calendar table.
Mainly the columns for the date of the activity (in German "beginnt um" / "endet um" - maybe it is "begin" (Date/Time) and "end" (Date/Time) ) and the place (in German "Ort" - maybe it is "location" or "place" (Text / Comment)).

Does anyone know such an Add-In for Access 2000 which works with Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 ?

Thanks for any hints.

I don't know of a 3rd-party add-in, but you can create a procedure to do this. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;209946 for sample code.

Hi All,
Looking for help on Access 2002. Have a Macro that worked fine in 2000 but now prompts to overwrite the file. It never did this in 2000 but I've inherited this so I'm playing catch-up. The Macro has Output To set up as follow;

Object Type: Report
Object Name: Print r01replen
Output Format: MS-DOS Text
Output File: \\servername\printer_sharename
Auto Start: NO
Template File: blank

What this is doing is printing text directly to a network printer. Like I said, it works on Windows 2000 Access 2000. I want the prompt about overwriting an existing file to go away. Any help would be appreciated.

I have set myself up a database, which was created in MS Access 2000. However I have Access 97 on another computer. This means that when I convert it to open the database in the 97 version the database doesn't work. If I make sure the database works in Access 97, it falls apart at the seams in Access 2000. Do you have any ideas on how I can build my database to be compatible with both versions at the sametime.

Answer:Use MS Access 97 databases in MS Access 2000.

When you go to save your database in 2K save it as a 97 database. To do this go to "Tools/Database Utilities/Convert Database/Prior Database. Then, when you have used it in the 97 version and put it back on the 2K version, you will be asked if you want to convert the database to the current version, say yes and it will open in 2k format.

What I have done is combine the Order Entry, Inventory Control and Customer Management databases together in Access 97 and Iím trying to get them to work together to be able to update when inventory comes in and goes out of my business.

Iím trying to figure out how to complete the actual receipt of merchandise on a purchase order in the database. I want to put in the current date or earlier (I may use yesterday's date when I finally get around to entering data) as my variables for the timing to update the inventory transaction table (units received and units on hand fields).

Can you give me the operators and operands in the expression builder and the complete proper syntax that I would need to tell an event has happened and to update the table.

Question: MS Access database

I am developing an Access database, one of the uses for which will be mail merging letters and mailing labels. The database records all contain an Area field, which contains an area code in the range 1-10. I've created a query which allows the viewing of records for specific areas (i.e. it filters the data so I can see just area 1, just area 2, etc). Instead of having a separate query for each area I put [Area?] in the Criteria for Area on the query design so that a box appears when I run the query into which I can enter the area code I want, click OK, and then that area is displayed. This all works fine. However, when I come to try mail merging, the query is not visible in the list of ones I can select in Word! If I make a query without the [Area?] variable in then it works OK (i.e. if I specify "1" as the area criteria). Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong?

Answer:MS Access database

Searching around on the internet, I found a solution to this.Within Word, you have to go into Tools > Options > General Tab and select confirm conversion at Open. This, for some reason, displays a different menu when you select the database as the source for the mailmerge, from which you can select a DDE connection which then gives you the full list of tables and queries from Access.

Question: MS Access Database

Father is running a television repair business. I thought that an access database would be a great way to log in when a customer called. Some information on the customer, television type, the problem etc.

I've looked through the microsoft template, I found a 2003 version of the database program that I want but it involves a lot of b.s. that I can't figure out. the 2007 versions are a bit more user friendly, but I'd rather turn the 2007 version to want 2003 can do or atleast the template does. It's found here,
customer Management
the really cool part about this database is probably the different things you can do. One, you can create an invoice based on the items you set to price and add the taxes to them, then you can add things like different employee's etc etc. I've tried to do it myself, but, there's no real 'help' and i honestly don't know my way around access.

There last problem and cure are still in there... I would like to find some way if it's possible to make this dump the items to a database for each customer in case I want to go into it again and look at past events. I have a database where I enter part number description, and cost. I also have another database that is updated all the time with this information in it. I would like to be able to link or however you do it. I would like to lets say put in the part number and then when I push enter or tab the description and cost field populates.

any help would be great.

Answer:access Database

you can link by selecting the table tab in the DB window and then click NEW followed by selecting Link. Then search for your other database and select the table you want to link to.

You will now have access to all the fields, it is the same as a table now except you may have sharing issues if the table is opened on the source DB.

You can use this linked table just as a regular table to make reports forms, queries etc. so you may not need the table you created with the same information as it is redundant.

So you can make a form with your linked table with a combo to select the product.

Access is perfect for this application.
What kind of products are you dealing with?
Do you "Supplier" lists?
Do you have more than one Supplier for items.
Is the stock used within your area ie by yourselves rather than being sold to a Customer?
Do you want Categories and Sub Categories of stock?
Do you have "Re-Order" levels? (Minimum stock when a new order is required)

The first thing to try after taking a backup copy of the Database is a "Repair & Compact" of the current one. You should open Accees, not the database and then choose Tools>Database Utilities>Repair & Compact. Choose the current database to repair and Compact and save it under a new name. Open the newly named, repaired database and see if it still has the same problem.

Question: Access DataBase

I have an access database, one of the forms I am working with has a subform. I want to be able to print part of the main form, and parts of the suboform. I can do this by inserting the form key number and the subform key number, then it prints what I want. What I am looking for is to be able to be in a clients record and push print and without having to enter anything it prints the fields in the form and the subform that I have in a report. I hope this makes sense. Is there a macro that I can put together to do this?

Thank you in advance for any help. .
Chad

Answer:Access DataBase

The simplest way although it may not seem like it, is to do the following:
Create a Join Query that includes both tables/queries (whatever your using), and create Joins on the 2 Key fields (related), this query should then become the control source for you report.
Now in the new query go to the field that contains the data you will be selecting on the form. eg the ID for the Main form

In the criteria row right click and select Build, find your form and find the Id field control name. The syntax will be:

[Forms]![FormName]![ControlName]
Now if you don't already have one, place a button on your form that opens the Report or query, it should only display the records for the selected records.

This called "Filter by Form"
Any problems let me know I or some one else can walk you through, it works I use it all the time.

The ProjectCode has multiple Areas and the Areas have multiple Costs. Data entry to the Costs table includes a [ProjectCode], [Area] and an [Amount Aus]

Question: Access database

I am trying to produce an access database for client names and addresses to be entered using a form but I want the establishment address to be automatically completed if the establishment name when entered is in an existing table of names and addresses. I want to store the address in the new client database table and be able to add a new address if the establishment name does not already exist.

I have tried various ways of doing this including dlookup, and on afterevent with no success. It seems a very logical thing to do but I cannot get Access to do it. I would be grateful for any help.

Many thanks

Hi folks i am relatively new to using Access Databases and have a query

i have created a form in Access which users manually input data into and i trying to work out if its possible that when data is entered into 2 fields called actual hours and hourly target (both long integers) then a calculation can be done and put into another field within the same form

The calculation would be actual hours/hourly target

Hope that makes sense

Thanks in advance

I have to build a simple database in access with a few queries and reports. I also need a form and possibly a switchboard.

I have the start but I don't know how to build a dependent combo box and could use some help. Is there anyone out there with the time to help me get this straighten out.

Thanks
Michelle

Currently I'm working on a project at work and am unsure as to what would be the best way of implementing the following concept: There is a need to track certain access to labs and software within the building. An end user should be able to submit a pre-created form (likely in infopath) and it should automatically be added to a database over a network drive.

I am happy to provide more detail of the task if needed, I just need to know what the best implementation of this concept would be. The process should be something an end user should be able to just submit without difficulty. Thanks in advance.
