Disappearing Yankee Clipper icon

Question: Disappearing Yankee Clipper icon

I have used Yankee Clipper for a number of years now and it has been a great deal of help to me, largely because of its simplicity. But after I got XP the YC icon on my System Tray started to disappear, not always, but when it did I couldn't find a way to get the YC window to display. When I would click on the YC icon on my desktop or go to YC in Windows Explorer, I would get a message that YC was already running and to look at the System Tray (where the YC icon was no longer there).

YC told me that the problem must have something to do with XP, but couldn't say what. YC suggested that I click Ctrl/Alt/Y. That sometimes brought up the YC screen but not always. It didn't restore the icon to the System Tray.

I wonder if anyone has a suggestion as to what might be the problem and how I can solve it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Disappearing Yankee Clipper icon

Perhaps it's not in your startup and should be (and used to be)?

Hit Start-->Run and type msconfig and hit enter.
Go to the Startup tab.
Do you see anything that resembles Yankee Clipper?
If you do and it is NOT checked, check it.
If you don't, reinstall Yankee Clipper. See if you're asked if you want it to start when Windows starts (or to put an icon in the system tray) and say "yes".

Question: Yankee Clipper fix

My YC has been dropping clippings. The YC website had me download a fix for that. Where I am now is that I have renamed to old YankClip.exe file to read YankClip.exeold, and now my YankClip[1] folder shows that old renamed file with a MS icon and the new file with a YC icon, just as was the case with the old file before I renamed it.

The YC instructions tell me to “Get the ZIP, stop the program, rename the old EXE, and finally copy the new file into the installation directory”. I wasn't sure at what point I was supposed to stop the program, I presume meaning the zip program, and how I was to do that, so what I did was to rename the old EXE first, and then download the new one without interrupting the program

Does what I did amount to “copying the new file into the installation directory"?

Since YC dropped clippings only sporadically, I am wanting to find out now if I did the fix right rather than just wait to see if the dropping problem happens again.

Thanks, grandpaw7

Answer:Yankee Clipper fix

Hiya

From what I'm reading, when they say 'stop the program', that may have been the YC program, not the zip.

The way I read it is as this..

Download the zip. Stop the YC program from running. Rename the exe to old, either like what you have done, or as YankClip.old, then open the zip, and extract the new exe into the same folder.

Is that what you did?

Regards

eddie

Question: Yankee Clipper III

I don't know why, but I can never seem to understand the software instructions. I can get stuff to YC by highlighting it and clicking Edit>Copy, just like usual before I had YC. (I am surprised that the instructions don't say how to get stuff to the Clipboard.) But then how do I paste the stuff, say, in a document I am composing in MS Word? If you don't mind, I need the instructions you would give to a kindergartener. Thanks, grandpaw

After getting my new XP computer, I downloaded the clipboard utility Yankee Clipper, which I used a lot on my older computer. However, I found out I downloaded the wrong version rather than the one I wanted and was used to. So I uninstalled it yesterday morning and instead installed the version I wanted. Then, I got to messing around trying to get YC on my startup and Quick Launch. Somehow, I messed things up so that YC wouldn't work. So I attempted to uninstall this second version of YC (the one I wanted). Add/Remove went through the usual procedure as though the uninstall worked fine. But it didn't. YC was no longer in Add/Remove, but it was big as life everywhere else although it still worked poorly. Then, I used System Restore to go back to yesterday morning before I uninstalled the version I didn't want. I wanted to start all over. So I tried to uninstall that version so I could newly install the good version. But now the bad version won't uninstall. When I try to do that via Add/Remove, I get a Wise Uninstall error saying "Could not open INSTALL.LOG file.

I have no idea what to do now. For one thing, I wonder if the error message means that the Add/Remove program now won't work for anything, or if that error message just applied to YC. I've thought about downloading free uninstaller but I prefer not to do anything till I can get some expert input.

Thank, grandpaw

I am using Yankee Clipper III (YC3) under Win7 64bit. Occasionally it looses the boilerplates and I can't get them back other than by recreating them. Under Win XP, according to what I have been able to find, the boilerplates are kept in Program Files/YCIII. That doesn't seem to the the case for Win 7. I have restored the YCIII portion of Program Files X86 from a True Image Backup but the boilerplates are still not there.

Will someone please help me get around the problem of having to recreate the boilerplates each time YC3 looses them?

Thank you very much.

This is an unusual problem.

I'm in the process of reinstalling applications onto my C: drive that were initially installed on another drive.

They create an icon onto my Desktop.

I then drag those icons into a Folder called Utilities.

Once I do that, the icon turns generic (like a white sheet of paper) rather than the apps icon.

Any ideas why?

** Just noted: If I move it back to the desktop, the icon comes back. Wha???

*** Additional info: I just noticed that the icon shows up in LIST, DETAILS, CONTENT or SMALL ICONS view. They do not show in TILES, MEDIUM ICONS, LARGE ICONS or EXTRA LARGE ICONS views.

Something is wrong with some of my folder views!

Answer:The Disappearing Icon

You can restore your "Views" by opening File Explorer, click on View, click on option in the Ribbon. If ribbon not showing click on little chevron beside the question mark in upper right corner.

Brink wrote an excellent tutorial found here https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html
Addition If you think it might be something in the way Windows is handling the dragging, could I suggest you right click on the desktop icon and click on properties. Then open your utilities folder, right click in clear area and then left click on "New". Click on new shortcut. Cut and paste properties from Desktop Icon to shortcut you are creating.

Recently my CD-ROM icon was not showing up (in "My Computer"). It happened intermittently at first. Then my CD-RW icon stopped showing up. I could not use either drive. I confirmed that the hardware was working by booting using a CD.

After speaking with Dell tech support, I decided to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows. Everything worked good for about 24 hours, and then... doh! The CD-ROM icon disappeared!

I don't know what could be causing this (it never happened before...). Are there any ideas for how to fix/prevent this problem?

Here is my machine specs:

512 MB RAM
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Samsung CD-R

Thanks!

Question: Disappearing Icon

Hey Everybody,
I am currently running XP Pro on a Dell Inspiron Laptop. Just yesterday, all of the icons on my desktop (shortcuts, "my computer", etc.) suddenly took on a "default" like appearance. I went into the properties of the shortcuts and was able to re-choose the icons (i.e. so my Kodak Software shortcut icon was a red "K" again). However, how do I do this for the regular icons (my computer, internet explorer, microsoft outlook...)? They have changed appearance in my start menu as well. What would cause this to happen in the first place? This is not a major issue, as the icons still run the program, but I would like to change them back for aesthetics' sake.

Thank You,
Stokejob

The little red "sg" in the lower right taskbar keeps disappearing. I can reinstall Spywareguard after unchecking the startup entry in msconfig, but then the icon will disappear again. It's a Toshiba laptop/SP2. I thought it might be caused by SP2, but I've also got a Dell laptop with SP2, and it doesn't have the problem. If the little sg icon is not present, is Spywareguard running? Is there some quirk with Toshiba?

Yesterday, I downloaded Windows Update MiniTool. It's a portable program where the 7Zip file contains a 32-bit EXE, a 64-bit EXE and an INI file which is apparently some sort of language file. About an hour after I unpacked it, the 64-bit EXE's icon disappeared. I deleted the folder and the shortcut I created, and when I unpacked it again, I left the 32-bit file alone. Eventually, I downloaded that batch file for rebuilding the icon cache, and I thought that that fixed it, but this morning, I discovered that the fix was only temporary. Apparently, there's some other issue causing the icon cache corruption. To rule out some things, I also have IrfanView, which is portable, and I've downloaded several legacy games where I created EXE launchers with Bat To Exe Converter, including icons I made with Greenfish Icon Editor. I've never had any trouble with any of those icons. While I was typing this, I extracted the 32-bit file, just to see what happens. What else can I do to trouble shoot this?

I believe I have a Trojan. I first notice what looked like very small bar-codes around my cursor. The bar-codes were above and below my cursor. They started appearing in other things like the icons and the 3 symbols for minimize, expand and shut-down. Then my icons started disappearing. At one time when I typed in an URL address and the letters were just lines (like a tall bar-code). One can see the ‘bars’ in the Window’s logo as the pc starts up. This is the second day of this problem. I ran my Norton Antivirus and some spyware programs. No help there. Rebooting helps some but the problem is getting worst. Can you advise me?

URGENT! Another question arose!

I don't remember the exact date, but before, whenever I startup my laptop, I always have the Dolby notification icon in the bottom right.

But now, I don't know what I did, the notification icon never appears for Dolby. The settings for that icon is set to "Show" but whenever I click on it again, it says "This notification is currently not active." Eventhough, I'm pretty sure it's on.

I tried reinstalling, but I keep getting error messages once it's reinstalled. So I have to use System Restore, and this has been driving me nuts...and this keeps going in circles.

I think there is something wrong with the registry of this program.

When I go to the program location, I have a Dolby Profile Selector, Dolby Profile Editor, and Dolby Profile Launcher...I am so confused now, as I always had the Notification Icon available.

I can add Dolby to the Startup Folder, but when turning on the laptop, the entire Dolby profile pops up when Windows 7 boots, and that was not what happened before.

Now it's my OCD kicking in...can't sleeeepppp.....

URGENT

Thanks in advance !!!!!

Answer:Notification Icon Disappearing! Never happened before..

See if rebuilding the icon cache helps.

Icon Cache - Rebuild

You could also see if there are any damaged or corrupt system files that might be preventing the icon from displaying. Run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

I have a WinXP machine (HP d530 - I know it's old!) that at seemingly random times decides to hide all the desktop icons.

I have searched all over the net for a solution, but have yet to come across one.

I have checked the 'Show Desktop Icons' option - it's always been checked.

The PC has the same basic setup as many of the others within the company and I've checked the machine for added software that it's not suppose to have and it's clean.

Also it's virus/spyware free.

I've even gone as far as updating the video drivers (video card is a Jaton Video-228PCI-Twin GeForce 5200 - which we use a lot of). I also changed the refresh rate as well.

So far the solution has been to reboot, but today the user found that if she drug a file to the desktop it refreshed and they all reappeared.

My goal is to find a permanent solution to this, even if it means replacing all the guts to it (I just can't justify replacing the machine because of this though).

Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Leare

I am a N00b. I have no preveious experience in posting except on a local music forum, so please bear with me... Ok, so Il spare you the details. I bought this laptop in January, A Sony Vaio VGN-AR61ZU (http://vaio.sony.ie/view/ShowProduct.action?product=VGN-AR61ZU&site=voe_en_IE_cons&pageType=Overview&category=VN+AR+Series), and from very early on it's been giving me problems. Well, one problem.

Randomly, whether I'm in the middle of maing a movie or simply using the laptop to play music, the windows kind of.. split and move behind the start icon. Which makes it impossible to get the start menu up, and very difficult to alternate between windows.

I realise this is obviously quite a serious problem and I'll most likely have to bring it back, but I have no idea what I'm talking about, and if I do bring it back, somebody will try and tell me there's nothing wrong with it (just because it's not happening at thexact moment... oh and the fact that I'm a girl of course.) So basically I'm looking for someone to teach me some impressive terminology as to what is wrong with my laptop, or provide me with any further instructions as to how I could stop this from happening? I'd be very grateful.

Answer:My Windows Keep Disappearing Behind The Start Icon

I'd suggest that first you go to this page ( http://support.vaio.sony.ie/login/login.as...=voe_en_IE_cons ) and download the video drivers for your VAIO. Install them over the drivers that are currently there to see if it fixes the issue. Post back if you need further assistance.

There's absolutely no pattern to when it happens or what I'm doing when it happens. And it only happens with that icon. It's not a big deal since everything else is fine, but it's been bugging me. Any ideas?

It's been doing this for over 7 or 8 hours now. And no, there's no network connection, that's what the problem is here. This is a Windows XP desktop.

Basically what it's doing is within a second, this icon disappears from the taskbar, then reappears, over and over again:

When I hover over it, it gives me a message about not being connected. I can't get the exact message screencapped and I can hardly even read it, it disappears too quickly.

Sometimes it gives me this instead, and the connection works, but only for as long as this icon is there:

But it disappears too quickly for me to load any pages completely, so they always end up being incomplete pages. When I hover over this one, it says acquiring network address.

When I click repair, it gets stuck on "renewing IP address" every time, without fail.

Previously the internet connection would drop occasionally, but restarting the computer has always brought it back. I have tried this countless times by now, I have tried clicking repair, I have tried resetting the router, I have tried manually removing the connection then reconnecting to it, I have tried command prompt and running through the ipconfig flushdns, release, and renew commands, I have tried logging on as a different user account, I have tried uninstalling my wireless adapter software then reinstalling it, I have tried using a different adapter [I get a different error with that one], I have ran a scan with Malwarebytes' A... Answer:Icon constantly disappearing then reappearing within a second.

Do you have SP3 and up to date with Windows Updates (except maybe for yesterday's)?

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.
Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

When PC returns from system standby all icon images disappear. This includes desktop icon pictures (words are still present and can be opened), start menu icons and all programs within start menu are missing, system tray icons are also missing.

The PC is running XP pro, SP3. We have checked for spyware and removed all spyware using Trend and Spybot. Ran PC Doctor diagnostics, no hardware issue were found.

Any ideas will be appreciated, Thankyou

Answer:Solved: Icon image disappearing

conservice, Right click your "Desktop", choose "Properties", under the "Settings" tab change the "Color quality" from 32 bit to 16 bit then change it back to 32 bit again. This will rebuild the iconcache.db file and may correct the problem.

I searched this topic up already about how people's whole desktops were disappearing, but i tried everything and it still didnt work.

- What happend: I downloaded a 3rd party software. I've been using it for a couple months when all of a sudden one day i double click the icon on my desktop & then a screen popped up saying run. So i clicked run & it disappeared.

- I try redownloading it, but it gives me "Destination folder access denied; you need permission to perform this action". I even tried going on the "secret" admin file & downloading it, but still no luck. I gave my self all the permission i could, still no luck.

So my question is, can somebody help me re-download this program?

Answer:Windows Vista Disappearing ICON.

Try rebooting your computer. Or, just delete the icon (hopefully it is not saved to the desktop) and then copy the icon in the computer C:/ drive onto the desktop.

I use TFC (temporary file cleaner) regularly now after downloading it while I was getting help from someone at this website.  After using TFC, the icon for Avira that is normally in the taskbar disappears.  It appears that Avira is still running because it's loaded in the windows task manager.  I am including a screen capture while Windows Task Manager is open, so you can see the process is still running, but the icon is gone.

Is this an issue with TFC, my computer, or is this just supposed to happen?

Answer:Disappearing Avira taskbar icon after using TFC.....

After using TFC, you should reboot the computer to ensure a complete clean of any in-use temp files. TFC will STOP Explorer and ALL other running apps BEFORE performing its routines and it is normal for the computer to be slow to boot after running TFC cleaner.TFC was last updated by OldTimer 6/23/12...that was version 3.1.9.0 and it supported Windows XP/Vista/Win 7.

Hello,

No big deal, but would like to understand what might be happening.

Have "ClipTrak", a cliboard extender on my PC, and an icon to open it up was placed automatically in the area on the bottom of the screen, extreme right.

Not sure of what this area of the bottom taskbar bar is called; start-up, perhaps ?

It stays there for hours, works as it should, then totally disappears until the next PC
shutdown and subsequent start up again.

What might be happening ?
Any curfe ?

Thanks,

Hi,

For some time now I have noticed that the "picture/image" on the icons in my libraries are sometimes there and sometimes not there!!??

This is affecting all libraries; music, docs, photos etc. (the same is the case in all of the drives)

When the pictures disappear they are replaced by a vertical shadowed strip (if there is more than one folder within the folder)

I have yet to spot a pattern for when the images are there or not there! But just lately it seems they are not there a lot more!!!!

Any ideas?

Steve

Answer:Library Icon pictures/images keep disappearing

Can you post a screen shot, so we can get a better of the issue.

You can also try to rebuild your Icon Cache folder. First you will need to 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'

To do this press the Windows Key + E (the windows key is near the space bar) > Tools (located in the toolbar) > Folder Options > View > click on 'Show Hidden files, folders, and drives'

Next open Windows Explorer (using the Windows + E keys) if it is closed from the previous instructions.

Go to C:/users/username/AppData/Local now find the file IconCache.db and rename it IconCache.db.old then restart you computer.

I've had this happen on both my desktop and laptop. The volume icon on the taskbar will just suddenly disappear. The explanation I had found was something to do with cleaning the desktop of unused buttons. But I used the volume quite often. How do I get this back up on my taskbar? I have gone into the control panel and under Taskbar and Start Menu. Then into the System Icons menu to change the behavior on the notification area. But there is no way to change the volume back to "On" It is basically a unchangeable option. I had fixed this before but forgot to write down how I did it unfortunately. Does anyone know why they have the behavior change on a button that is used often? They should ask you if you want it removed rather than just doing it.

Answer:Volume Icon disappearing from taskbar notification area

In XP Go to Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices - Double-clickSounds and Audio Devices Properties Panel is now displayed. From the Volume(tab) - place a checkmark/tick in the box in front of "Place volume icon in taskbar" In Vista Go to Control Panel - Taskbar and Start Menu - Double-clickTaskbar and Start Menu Properties panel is now displayed.Select - Notification Area(tab) - place a checkmark/tick in the box in front of "Volume" in System Icon list I don't have a Win 7 machine readily available at this moment.  Sorry.  And I can't remember. And another thing.... I can't remember how to fix it in Windows 7.

(Not sure if correct forum area)

Please help! Searched the internet, and could not find reliable results.

I am helping a friend set up Google Drive for his small business. He has the free version of Google Apps for Business (his webmaster had the foresight to sign the domain up in time, but they never set it up back then).

The Google Drive system tray icon keeps disappearing. It is still busy doing the first major sync of all the files we put in there (12GB's on a 1MB line), but it disappears every hour or so. We know the overall sync will take days to complete.

Does that mean synchronising has stopped?

How can I stop this from happening? My friend and I are becoming very irate, though would like to keep the other benefits of Google Apps (Google Sheets, 3rd party apps, etc).

We have tried setting the Google Drive folder to show hidden content (as per one of the internet suggestions).

Rebooting the PC or relaunching Google Drive from the 'search everywhere' pane brings it back, but then the same problem occurs.

My friend is using Windows 8.

Thank you for any help.

Could that be the problem? Thanks very much in advance.

Using a Pc - and running Windows XP, I Had the same problem with the disappearing icon in tray while trying to close Yahoo Messenger. After clicking on the smiley icon to close it , it traditionally appears again near the clock, but after doing so, it wasn't showing..
Here's what i did and it seemed to work.
I pulled up the pager box(the big square box) went to preferences, and checked close messenger
when closing out the box, or something to that effect. This worked fine, and was a good fix for me,(in other words I could live with that) but in unchecking it again, I found that it corrected itself...You can try this.

Answer:ca-clipper 5.3b for dos/windows

OMG! My first job in the computer field! I was the install guy for a point of sale/accounting software for specialty gift shops, which was written in Clipper for DOS. Had to setup that program on point of sale computers for the front, and in the workstations in the office for the accounting part. They kept using the DOS version til past Win98 days, when I left that company. When I first got there they were using Artisoft LANtastic for the networking, on coax.

Pig of a DOS program, had to learn the art of fine tuning config.sys to get conventional memory up past 600.

The owners of the software company used to raise pit bulls...one of them came to the office every day, sorta the mascot of the office. His name was Clipper.

Anyways, I'm not a programmer, I'm a networking guy, but from what I remember in the days before I left that company, the programmers there were having a hard time migrating their program to a native Windows backend.

I believe Clipper for DOS remained for DOS

and one of the projects designed to migrate it to Windows almost made it..

where do i set the variables in Windows XP?.

Go to C:\windows\system32, and edit Autoexec.NT and Config.NT there is where the environment variables and DOS configuration must be set, every Dos Box that is opened will use the values within this files.

Don´t expect to see them if you type the SET command, but they are initialized and the clipper program will read them.

Hey i have a large .mpg file and i want to clip a section out of it. Do all programs need you to re-assemble all the parts before you play? I want to take a playable section out and delete the rest..like at specific start and end times and everything and then have a playable piece. I did a google search and there seems to be TONS of "editors". And they seem to do so many other things it all seems really complicated to go through all the programs. I would worry wich ones have spyware or would de-stabalize my system if they're done by amateurs.

Any Suggestions?

I maintain some legacy programs written under dBase and compiled with Clipper.I have a couple of problems when running under some versions of Windows ? especially XPNormally the key-code for the left arrow key is identical to Ctrl-S> - both, when tested with a utitlity, are correctly shown as being ASC 19However, when running in a virtual DOS environment, while the left-arrow key works fine, the Ctrl-S> is ignored. I assume that Windows is intercepting the code for some other purpose.Using the Properties of the desktop shortcut to the DOS environment, I have tried various combinations of Compatibility (for Windows) and disabling the Windows Shortcut keys, but no still solution is found.Secondly: the programs frequently use the higher ASCII codes to build boxes on-screen. These generally work fine, but on occasion ? and I can find no reason for why this only happens sometimes ? the characters get mis-interpreted and produce other graphics characters.Would be grateful if anyone knows a solution ? especially to the key-code issue - or even just a pointer to someone who might know. Many thanksDr Philip Ramage

Answer:BackDoor-CJO, AD-Clipper & downloader-OX

I was seeing McAfee return Downloader-OX and two other adware / virus threats. If you will look in the far right of the McAfee notification window (at least with McAfee Enterprise Edition) you will notice what applications are causing you the trouble.

I couldn't see anything in my startup files - either through regedit or Hijackthis! - I simply deleted the infected files (which turned out to be mplayer.exe and TELNET.EXE) and Windows XP restored them.

I'll let you know if I run across anything else, but I seem to be running clean. McAfee seemed to catch the infection before it spread, but everytime I ran Media Player the virus seemed to try and reactivate. Telnet.exe seemed to be automatically being called at points, but after deletion and recreation I haven't seen the problem return.

This issue must be new enough to not have very many posts. McAfee's VIL was no help whatsoever

CREATE (cPath + cString)

What could I be doing wrong? I am trying to create an empty table to store the TempTab structure info in a new work area.

What are the datatypes for cstr and cpath?

I do not know clipper, but I would guess you need to caste them to be the same, or the same as CREATE supports.

Also, a quick google makes me think you need to use dircreate to create a folder...

I want to ask about porting / converting ancient (20 years old!) dBase / Clipper source code and files to Modern Windows XP environment.

Should I use Codebase and re-compile the program for Microsoft C?

http://www.codebase.com/products/

Is there any other better / simpler ways to port text only applications?

Thank you.

Answer:Porting dBase/Clipper Source Code And Files

Are you asking if there's any way of automatically converting the source code or you asking whether you you should rewrite the application. Codebase will not convert an XBase DOS program to a windows program. From what I understand Codebase is a library that allows you to manipulate XBase databases (DBase, Clipper, Paradox etc) with a windows language such as Visual Basic.

Hello
I have a Linksys WUSB54G wireless adapter running on a Windows 98SE computer. Each time the computer starts the "Linksys Network Monitor" (the thing that tells you signal strenth, network details, etc.) will start in the tray. But after about 30 min, it'll randomly disappear from the tray, and I am not sure what is causing this. I also noticed that once it does leave the tray, the mouse will freeze for about 1/2 a second on the screen. This little mouse freeze will happen about every 8 seconds.

Why is this icon disappearing and how can I fix this? Thank you

Answer:Linksys WUSB54G "network monitor" tray icon randomly exiting and disappearing

Does the adapter lose power at the same time the utility icon disappears? If so, either the USB port is suffering some sort of problem, or the wireless adapter is overheating and drawing too much current, causing the USB port to shut down.

Hi.
The code below will do the following if you have a table set up in WORD:
1. Sequence down a column of cells one after another while:
2. being given the choice to embed a selectable pdf file from a File Open dialog popup after which
3. the embedded object is displayed as a icon ( icon set always same set in code)

I used to have access to the applications from STORE from an icon on the toolbar at the bottom of my screen. I unpinned it from the toolbar expecting that the icon would be in the ALL Apps from the Window icon at the bottom left of my screen.
How do I add the icon back on my toolbar?

I just got my new T440s system and when I turn on/off the Fn lock, or mute/unmute speaker or microphones, a small black box always appear on the screen to show me the state of these functions. It will disappear after several seconds. But I want to know how to make it not appear because there are already LEDs on the keyboard to show me the real time state of these three functions. (I still want to keep the Caps Lock icon) As I remember, after I powered on the system in the frist time and finished the Initial settings, a setting window showed to ask me if I need these icons appear or not and seems I can also decide the appearing location of these icons. But I cannot find it again! If someone knows how to disable it, please give me a feeback. Thanks in advance!

Ok, this just happened recently and I don't know what is causing it. I'll try to give u a brief overview of the situtation I'm in. XP used to be on my D driver (74gigs), it got screwed up (BSOD) at the time, I didn't know as much computers, so I installed XP to my C driver (4 gigs). This has worked pretty fine up until when SP2 was released. I can't install SP2 because XP takes up about 4 gigs by itself. Without SP2 I just have been running some extra firewalls so compensate.

Well about 4 days ago, I noticed whenever I open up my computer it takes like 7 or 8 seconds before the hard drivers appear. Then I went into network connections to look at my internet icon (to check the settings). I opened it up and nothing was there. The only thing there was on the far left it was asking me if I wanted to setup a network ( my internet is working on all the computers). I have ran 2 different spyware scans and found nothing, ran mcaffee scans and nothing. I can't restore my computer because all the restores got deleted when I was trying to free space on my drives.

Where do I go, usually I can solve tech problems but I mean this is beyond weird? What do I do first, if you need more information just ask because I really need some advice.

This is a problem that started with the last windows update (which included an update for my wireless network adapter which I have since rolled back).

My setup is as follows: I have a dual band router. The 5Ghz band's SSID is (for example) Testg and the2.4 Ghz band's SSID is Testg2.

When I click on the network status icon and hover over the Testg connection, it shows the SSID as Testg2. When I go into the Manage Wireless Networks and open the properties for this connection, it shows the SSID as Testg.

I have fooled around with renaming the connections as all of a sudden one showed up as Test 2 3 with the SSID of Testg

Currently I have three connections listed in manage networks: Testg, Testn, and Test2. Testg and Testn (Testg was previously Test 2 3 renamed Testg) and Testn (previously named Testg renamed to Testn so I could rename Test 2 3) both show the SSID being Testg. The Test2 connection shows the SSID of Testg2.

Looking at this information by left clicking and hovering over the connections on the network status icon, they show as follows: Testg shows an SSID of Test2, Testn shows an SSID of Testg, and Test2 shows an SSID of Testg2.

Why is the SSID different for the same connection depending on where I look at it and is there a fix for this?

Thanks.

bruce

Answer:Network status icon and manage networks icon show different SSID

Well, due to other issues (thank you Cnet download for installing all kinds of malware on my computer with the program I was trying to get), I had to use a system restore to get rid of something that took over my computer and it also fixed this issue. I used a restore point from before the Windows update that I installed.

I'm having a big problem. I screwed something up with my taskbar and I can't undo it.

I logged on as usual. An annoying message popped up at the lower right corner of the desktop, above, not in, the taskbar, alerting me to something I should download and install that I have no intention of downloading and installing. In the past, each time I've logged on and this message has appeared, I have simply clicked on "cancel" or just clicked the X at its upper right corner. But this time, I must have taken leave of my senses! Instead of just right clicking the X in its right corner, I clicked something else on it and a message window popped up. That message window advised me to either "download" the irrelevant auxiliary toolbar I have no need of and will not download and install, or click "cancel". But it also offered me the chance to click a checkbox next to "do not show this message again on taskbar". At least that's what I recall it said. So I clicked on that, in an attempt to keep it from popping up every time I logged on (removing the annoying message from the action center each time it popped up upon logon never had the effect of preventing it from popping up again the next time I logged on, which is why I tried this "do not show ..." choice this time).

But once I did that, I found I am no longer able to make two things work on my desktop taskbar with the customary left clicks.

It no longer does ... Read more

Hello and welcome to the tenforums

Have you done a restart to see if this sorts out the problem? (Note: a Restart does not use the hybrid shutdown process but instead does a full shutdown and restart)

Next thing to try is a repair of the system files: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2895-sfc-command-run-windows-10-a.html

For two months I've sometimes seen an icon towards the lower middle part of my screen.  When it appears, the icon always stays in the foreground.  It's similar to the Caps Off icon that appears on the right.  This new icon is the same size and is also a black square except that the white symbol it contains looks like a half circle with lines projecting down like rays of light.  There's a slash across the symbol just like the slash on the Caps Off icon. What is this icon for and what can be done to remove it? I'm running Windows 7 on a E430 Lenovo ThinkPad. Thanks.

Hello and welcome,

That sounds like it's telling you that the ThinkLight is off - but I don't find any confirmation that your laptop even has a ThinkLight.  Odd.

You can try a right click on the desktop, Screen resolution, Advanced settings, and see if there's anything about that in the On screen display tab.

[edit] On machines that do have a ThinkLight of around the same vintage as yours, Fn+SPACEBAR toggles the light.  On earlier laptops it was Fn+Page Up. You might try fiddling with those keys.

Has anyone of you noticed this?

After purchasing an XLR to USB preamp the cheapest one on the market. I went online to find out how to get it to work with windows 7 it wasn't working - I got it to work using the online information; didn't use the computer for a day then when I come back, my IE icon is gone from the task bar. I went online to find out how to retrieve it; The information I found worked- I got it back. The only problem is It keeps asking me if I want to make Internet explorer my homepage. I take the necessary actions to accomplish that but you would think based upon it's response that I'm ignoring it rather it's ignoring - me continually making the request.

Yes, this virus is still out there and somehow it got to me, and on my day off to..
Anyways, I have Webroot spy sweeper and AVG:Free Edition control center. The AVG is always turned on but my WebRoot wasn't. I scanned with both and the Virus icon is still there. Its the one that keeps popping up with a message saying that my computer is infected. Critical System Error! System detected virus activites, they may cause critical system faiulre ect.. My Web Root has not got rid of it after sweeping my system twice. I got a message earlier to install Spysweeper Quake? But I did not. Anyone have any info on how to get rid of this thing? I have no idea how to access my hijack logs. Any easy instructions on how to get rid of this annoying virus icon would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I don't want to combine my windows, but when i have only one window open in any program, i know what it is and don't need to see the label as that makes the whole taskbar filled up pretty fast.
Is there a way to hide labels when there is one window open, and show labels when having multiple windows?
I've tried googling it but it doesn't seem like it is possible with some program either.

Answer:Taskbar, only icon when one window, icon+label when multiple windows?

Nevermind, catered to my needs by altering the minimum width of the taskbar "entries".

Hey, I've been coming to this forum for a while now since I set up my Windows 7 system, the tutorials here are fantastic, and have helped me customized Windows 7 just the way I want it!

except just after the last couple of days, I noticed that a few of the icons in the start menu were missing, and replaced with what looks like an Adobe Illustrator file icon, and when I open the program, it also shows the Illustrator icon on the task bar :S

I was just wondering if any of you might know what would cause something like this, and I greatly appreciate any help that is given

I'll attach a photo to show you exactly what I mean:

I need help getting to the bottom of this, not sure why it's happening, or when it started happening, maybe a week ago...

I get a seemingly random icon flash on the taskbar for no more than a few miliseconds, so i checked
event viewer to track down what was happening and the only thing i can find is 2 events in the subcategory
Application that states the source as RestartManager
and the event ID as 10000 and 10001, these both appear every time the icon flashes on the taskbar

I think this issue is also causing fullscreen flash vids to show the taskbar and a loading circle on the cursor... also Battlefield 4 likes to get a black screen then when i alt-tab i'm back to the game without any crashing or any error besides this ominous
black screen

I'm running 8.1 legit
