Outlook 2003 Mail Reading Pane Switch Appears Grayed Out

Question: Outlook 2003 Mail Reading Pane Switch Appears Grayed Out

I can't seem to disable the "Reading Pane" in Outlook 2003. Under "View" > " Reading Pane " I get no response when clicking on "Reading Pane."

I am under the impression that it is a good idea to keep the Reading Pane "off" so as not to "open" automatically emails which may contain viruses.

Any suggestion, on how to turn off the Reading Pane in Outlook 2003 when my Reading Pane "switch" seems to be disabled, would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm using Outlook 2003 (on Exchange) on an XP Pro machine. I have it configured to give me 2 email accounts. I have the reading pane activated on both accounts.

I used to be able to print (clicking the print icon or using the menu) from the reading pane without actually opening the email for each of the two accounts. Now, I can only do it from one of the accounts. The error message I get when I try to print from the second account is: "Message headers cannot be printed. Download the complete message and then print."

The fact that I used to be able to print from both, but now only from one leads me to believe I inadvertently changed a setting. Someone suggested it may be a security setting, but I have no idea.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Every time I create a new folder in Outlook 2003 the Reading Pane "Hide header information" option is enabled by default. I know I can select View / Arrange By / Custom / Other Settings and then uncheck the "Hide header" box, but this is tedious if I'm setting up several new folders.

According to Microsoft no global change can be made to this value in the Reading Pane. Does anyone know of a tweak or utility which can set the default to show the header in the Reading Pane view?

I have the reading pane activated in Outlook 2003. I've noticed that when any email is shown in the reading pane, the header information is followed by approximately 10 blank lines before the message text is shown. This happens regardless of the location of the reading pane (below or to the right). If I open the email, everything looks fine. The blank lines are annoying because I usually have to go to the reading pane and scroll down to see the entire message. I should also add that the blank lines are fixed, so when I scroll through the message the white space stays there and doesn't scroll. Any solutions? I'm running XP SP2.

Is there a way to globally diable Outlook 2003's reading pane?

Answer:Disabling Outlook 2003's Reading Pane

Well, it USED to be that you could do a command line switch:

outlook.exe /nopreview

But I don't know if that still works in 2003.
And I don't know what you mean by globally--all views on one PC? all PCs?

For some reason, new mail in my Inbox now displays in the reading pane without the message headers (subject, from, to, etc.). Mail in all other folders displays the headers, and mail moved from my Inbox to any other folder displays the headers. I can't find a setting or option which would seem to address this. Any suggestions?

Answer:Solved: Outlook 2003 reading pane not displaying message headers

Go to a folder with a "good" view.
Hit View-->Arrange By-->Current View-->Define Views. Copy *this* view and use it on your Inbox.

Yesterday afternoon my mail app suddenly decided that I no longer wanted the reading pane off to the right side unless I am in full screen mode. If I open the window wider (but not full screen) it will either let me have the preview screen or the bar off to the left with the list of accounts, but not both. If I open the mail app in full screen it has both the preview pane and the ribbon on the left.
I'm sure I must have clicked something to make it do this but have no idea what. I've clicked and unclicked "show preview text" a few times and completely restarted once to no avail. What have I done and how do I fix it? I'm using a desktop PC.

I'm having a weird problem. All of a sudden, the reading pane in outlook went away. I've tried setting it to both settings (Right, Bottom, and even Off). Tried going through Programs and repairing office ultimate. Also uninstalled outlook from there and re-installed, but still won't show.

Any ideas on how i can get it back! All I see is the list of emails, and then I have to double click to open in seperate window and read/respond/etc.

Hi Guys,

I have been doing some research and it seems that the reading pane in outlook isnt that safe. In most of the sites i visited it said it was better to turn this off so you dont open your self up to viruses. Can somone confirm this is true before i send an e-mail round my organisation telling them to turn it off.

The reason i started to look into this was when one of our users started to recieve loads and loads of spam mail i have sorted the problem wit that now but because she had her reading pane on it seemed to infect her computer but if she had to double click on the e-mail to open it this would not have happend. Can anyone please confirm if this is the case also.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:How Safe Is The Reading Pane In Outlook?

Though turning it off is recommended, good email AV should be sufficient.

And, no, double-clicking does not protect anyone. Opening the mail by any means has the same effect.

A good AV with a "resident shield" is sufficient in most cases, but the added email scanning feature of AVG, for example, that scans incoming mail, adds even more security.

The point really is that mails from unknown persons or with suspicious titles should not be opened at all.

I find the 100% setting for reading emails in Outlook 2010 too small and would like to set 150 or 200% as a default but I can't find any facility for this and I have to adjust the setting manually every time. Can anybody advise me please?

Answer:Outlook 2010 reading pane zoom default

Hello again urbanspaceman1

You have two options for doing this:

Option 1:
Create a new email type something and go to the "zoom" feature on the top right.
Select the percentage% you want the fonts to be displayed at.

Note: The fonts may not appear large when you are viewing them on the reading pane or double click open the email. For that view you will have to always manually zoom it yourself on the right corner in the bottom but you will be able to see the fonts large when you hit reply after doing the 2 points mentioned above.

Option 2:

Change your DPI settings following this tutorial:

I will search for similar stuff.
Till then, HTH

I just put in a new hard drive and installed the latest version of Office 2007. I kept the data and archive files from Outlook 2003 so I could import them into Outlook 2007 and get back to business. However, that did not happen. It was able to read and bring up most of the data, but I am missing some folders which are critical.

The critical folders are folders that were created manually. They were used to store email messages that came in that were important. They were simply dragged from the Inbox and put into that folder. There were also folders within that folder. I'm not sure if these folders and subfolders were in the Inbox or not. They may not have been.

The way I imported it was by going to TOOLS>ACCOUNT SETTINGS>DATA FILES tab>and pointed to the old PST file.

I also pointed to the archive.pst file as well, but later went to FILE>ARCHIVE and pointed to the old archive.pst file in there. Bot ways did not reveal the folders that are needed.

Is Outlook 2007 not able to read all data from Outlook 2003 pst files, or is there a fix for this?

Please advise.

Answer:Move from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 not successful; not reading certain folders

I purchased a new Notebook with Office 2007 installed and copied over my Outlook 2000 pst file. I also had manually created folders for filing important emails. Mine were sub folders within the Inbox folder. Everything copied over, but I could not see the manual folders at first until I double clicked the Inbox folder in the side panel and then they spilled out. I would look for them in that panel and double click anything there starting with Inbox, Sent etc. Also try doing a search for any subject or address of an email you may have saved.

When copying over the pst file I think everything is copied. Appears you did not just copy contacts for example, but the complete pst file. I think the folders are there as Sub Folders, just hidden within one of the main folders such as Inbox.

Have a home user who some messages are not displaying in the reading pane. These are mainly from Facebook and some various ones from their work colleagues.

When choosing reply message is also blank however selecting Office Button > Editor Options > Display > Hidden Text (checked) the message content appears.

Why then is the message content not visible in the main preview pane? These are just the simple message notifications such as from facebook.

Looked at fonts / mail format (tried all variences) to no avail.

When I opened my Outlook Express 6.0 yesterday everything seemed fine. But when I switched identities, I could not see the messages in the preview pane. Then, when I switch back to my default identity, the same thing occurs. If I close the program and then reopen it, the main identity is fine. I did notice a fix offered by sekirt, dated April 07,2004, in which they suggested closing OE, then click on start--> run. type in regsvr32 inetcomm.dll (noting space between the "2" and the "i") click OK. This worked once or twice, but only until I closed and reopened OE. I also made sure to restart, thinking that this would make this fix permanent. It did not. As a matter of fact, I just tried it for the third time, and it didn't work at all. I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2 on a Toshiba Qosmio Notebook with Intel Pentium M processor 2.00 GHz, if that helps. What I don't understand is why this is happening on one identity and not the other. Any other ideas? I'm a novice at this, but can follow directions, even if I have no clue what you are doing. Once I click SEND the email window closes. When I check my SENT ITEMS folder the email shows up but the message doesn't actually get mailed out (ie the recipients don't receive it). Any ideas why the body of the message was stripped?

Outlook Incoming mail appears to be blank

The problem I have is that when received Outlook Express messages are opened they all appear to be blank and if there is an attachment then it isn't visible.
If I try to print the message to Adobe PDF the about_blank name appears in the save-as area, and the printed message is blank.
I can send messages OK and the Inbox list of received messages looks OK too.
The machine was attacked with ?about-blank /claimed to be Smitfraud? last year, and looked to be cleaned, ( I?ve not used Outlook Express before on this PC so maybe it could be nothing to do with about_blank?..Up to now I?ve used Hotmail via internet so not had to access/store email through a POP3-SMTP/ PC based system.
Can anyone help, please.
Best regards,

Good Morning, I have a issue that I would like to put out there for discussion.... I have a customer with a Windows 7 Home Premium notebook, and he is using Outlook 2003 to read his email. He receives one email a day from the same sender that when read the email is basically in code, with no photos, icons, etc.. and at the top of the email it says "plain text". Now I would assume that the sender for some reason it sending the email in "plain text" but he claims that his old notebook (Dell with XP) and the other users in his office receive the email just fine.

Any Ideas?

Hi, My name is Fran. I've had something strange going on for a while (a month?) and I thought I'd give this a shot to figure out what the problem is. As I said in the Topic title, I have blank Outlook 2003 emails that keep showing up in my Inbox/Sent Mail/Deleted Mail Folders for my hotmail account in Outlook 2003. They all are the same size, but have various times. I contacted Microsoft, and they suggested that I reset my passwordsand security questions for all of my email accounts. I did this, but the problem has continued in my Hotmail account in Outlook 2003. This has made me suspect that I have something on my computer that picked up the new password. I fear that someone or something is hijacking my computer and want to put a stop to it. I read something today about HijackThis and decided to give it a try. I installed the software and ran a scan generating a log file. It then instructed me to use one of the forums for assistance in a list on their website in which you were at the top--so here I am.I attached the log for the scan from Hijackthis (I HAD TWO FILES AND WAS UNSURE WHICH YOU SHOULD GET, SO I UPLOADED BOTH--I RAN TWO SCANS WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF EACH OTHER, BUT AM UNSURE IF THESE LOGS ARE FOR EACH OR JUST ONE SCAN). And, when I looked at the scans' logs, it was all Greek to me. Of course, if there is any other info you need, please just let me know. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.B... Read more

HiWhile overseas I am able to access my Yahoo Mail with no difficult whatsoever by GOOGLING in YAHOO MAIL.COM and entering my password. My problem is trying to achieve the same result process with my BT Broadband Outlook Express. Will someone please point me in the right direction? Many thanks !Ron

Answer:Reading my Outlook Express mail while overseas

Unless BT is different from most other isp's, you should be able to log into their website and retrieve your emails. You should also have the option to leave the emails on the server or to delete them. This won't use Outlook Express, but will be via Internet Explorer or another browser. The emails will be the same. You should also be able to send emails the same way.

I been using Outlook 2003 for 5-6 years and have about 4000 Outlook e-mails saved including a folder which contains all my purchased software serial numbers. I carefully exported all my Outlook 2003 e-mails before switching to Windows mail. I have discovered to my dismay, that Windows mail can not import Outlook mail and somehow in the process of installing Windows mail, my Outlook 2003 program disappeared. My old 2003Student and Teacher Office disk which contained the Outlook 2003 software is too scratched to reinstall. I have looked for some kind of Outlook to Windows Mail converter from Microsoft; but no luck so far. I am absolutely amazed that Microsoft would publish a new mail program and not include import routines for its own legacy mail programs. Outlook 2007 apparently has the same problem with Windows Mail. Even if I purchase a replaacement disk from Microsoft ( I have the orginal box and serial number for my Student and Teacher Office package, so I thick I could still get a replacement disk), I would still have to use two e-mail programs and eventually Outlook 2003 would stop working with some future OS upgrade). Any suggestions??

Unique problem. Unable to swap profiles in Outlook 2003. There are six profiles but once outlook is run it just logs into the top choice. I have it setup to allow me the choice to pick one when I log in but its not working. Now the crazy thing, when you log into safe mode it comes up and asks everytime. If I try to close outlook it will just load the same profile back up when I run outlook again.

Any ideas how to make it so it will always ask which profile to run?

Answer:Unable to switch Between Profiles in Outlook 2003

Configure Outlook to prompt you for a specific profile when the program starts

Open the Mail Setup dialog box.

In Microsoft Windows XP

In Control Panel, click User Accounts, and then click Mail.
Note If you are using Control Panel Classic View, double-click Mail.
In Microsoft Windows 2000

In Control Panel, double-click Mail.
Note The Mail icon won't appear unless you have Outlook installed and you have started it at least one time.

Click Show Profiles.
Under When starting Microsoft Office Outlook, use this profile, click Prompt for a profile to be used.

Note You cannot change to another profile while Outlook is running. You have to restart Outlook to switch profiles.

When Outlook starts, click the profile that you want to use in the list.

Note Switching profiles means that you are changing which e-mail accounts and settings are available to you in an Outlook session. On the other hand, switching e-mail accounts means that you are sending e-mail by using another e-mail account and address available in the same profile.

Microsoft outlook 2003 Out of office rule problem

I have a licensed copy of the Microsoft Small Business Editions 2003. On the menu Tools the Out of office assistant was not visible in list, therefore, I created an out of office rule through wizard setup before I went on holiday.

On returning, I went to the Tools/Rules and Alerts and there is no rules listed so cant delete or amend. The big issue for me is that every time somebody sends me an email it sends a out of office message.

I have spent hours and looked on all sorts of forums / helpdesks with no luck ? can you help ?.

Folks I have read the MS tech notes on how to get Outlook 2003 [I have it via Office 2003 Professional, full install] to import from OE6. It fails under either option: import from "another program" or "Import Internet Mail....". Under the former it is pointed to the correct folder, but fails with Error: Cannot open,.. another program in use" but there's not... I tried copying the folder to a nice clean location on the C: and checked all the properties, nothing interfering, still won't open the folder.
Under the latter option it just doesn't do anything after directing it to the correct folder. Seems to accept the command, closes the window, but does not import anything. No error messages.

Umm.... do MS teams communicate with one another??

Closely related: If I could just get the FOLDERS I had setup it would be a great asset, or if i could just get the ADDRESS book it would help. Do you know how to import *.dbx folders into Outlook 2003? Or the old outlook Express address Book?

Answer:Outlook 2003 Will Not Import Outlook Express folders, mail, anything

They are written in two different formats that are uncompatible. The Oulook Express has a file sytem totally unique to it.

I had the same problem about 6 weeks ago going from XP to Win7.
I had to transfer address book to notepad and put it into Outlook one at a time. The old mail sits in the old PC.
I have heard you can transfer the OE mail files over to Windows mail or gmail etc. Then transfer files from the new mail server to Outlook.
File system is changed over with the mail transfer- I haven't tried it though.

I did a Google and found this. I didn't find this page six weeks ago.

Recently a customer of the company I work for did some upgrade to their system (not exactly sure what). The result is that when they send a mail containing a hyperlink to file on their website, the link doesn't work.
When you hover over the link you should get something like 'https//'.
However, what we actually get on Outlook 2003 is 'outbind://39-00000000C176F3FF67E6754394476777057BDCA60700071475F5FEB9AC4FABB3D7C8EE9381620000007059

The links work fine on Outlook 2010. Any idea what's happening here?

RESOLVED: See second post, here.

Original Post:
I have looked around a little, but haven't seen anything specifically about this particular problem.

Windows 7 Enterprise x64
Office 2010
All latest MSUpdates, etc
This problem just started happening to me this afternoon.

Normally, when I open an e-mail that has a URL in it, Outlook displays that URL to me as a hyperlink. However, now they are just displaying as text, and to use them, I have to copy and paste into browser.

This is not an issue with hyperlinks not functioning properly. No error messages, nothing. The URLs simply aren't hyperlinks.
To be clear, the e-mails in question definitely have URLs that Outlook on another computer (at home) is still indeed displaying as hyperlinks....same e-mail....hyperlinks at home, but no longer here on my work computer.

I have not tried it yet on a different work computer (next step), but I did try it with a different 'profile' in Outlook, and got the same behavior (or lack of behavior).
It's not happening to all e-mails in all e-mail accounts. I have a bunch of e-mail accounts that I access through Outlook, and this problem is only happening to certain ones.

Example: I have at least 3 e-mail accounts on a single domain. This problem is happening to the e-mails in the inbox (and/or any other folder within that account) of two of these accounts, but not the other one.
Also, I notice that the e-mail messages this is happening to are all 'plain text'. Howev... Read more

Answer:Outlook 2010 - URLs no longer display as hyperlinks when reading mail

I figured it out.....and was something I did.

Editor Options
AutoCorrect Options
AutoFormat tab
Internet and network paths with hyperlinks
For some reason, I was going through and turning off all kinds of autocorrect stuff (cause I hate that stuff), and didn't realize that this particular setting governed how e-mail gets displayed.

I thought since it was in the section called 'Editor Options' within the section called 'Compose messages', it was only relevant to what happens while composing new e-mails.

At any rate, I got it taken care of. :-)

I have two accounts now setup in Outlook. version included in Office XP Pro.

I would like to easily switch between e-mail accounts to check messages. Help in Outlook hasn't helped. I changed the default account and did a reboot, but original stayed the default.

Anyway there must be a simpler way to switch between multiple addresses.

Answer:Switch between e-mail accounts in Outlook

In looking over my Outlook 2003, and also looking at another 2002 setup, I see that while you can add additional email accounts for one user, there is no simple way of having totally different identities that allow you to switch between person1 OR person2, etc.

However, you could use Outlook Express (which is only a mail tool, not the more fully featured calendar, task list, journal, etc. that Outlook is). With Outlook Express you can set up different identities, and each identity can have its own email logon and servers.

Hi Folks, I'm hoping someone can help me with the following Outlook 2003 problem. Here goes:I have just installed Outlook 2003 on my machine. I have been using Outlook Express 6 to manage my NTL E mail account. Basically, I want to start using Outlook 2003 and eventually want get rid of Outlook Express once I have got to grips with Outlook 2003.The problem is that Outlook 2003 sends E mails out fine. However any E mails addressed to my NTL E mail address goes into the Outlook Express Inbox and nothing arrives in the Outlook 2003 Inbox. Even the test E mail which is generated by Outlook 2003 goes into the Outlook Express Inbox. I've set up Outlook 2003 as the default account for my NTL Email account. If I remove the NTL Account from Outlook Express I still don't receive any E mails in Outlook 2003. I just don't receive any E mails.I basically want all the E mails that have been sent to the NTL E mail address to go into Outlook 2003 Inbox where I can read them.I hope the above makes senses. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I don't know what else I can try.

Answer:Outlook 2003 mail goes into Outlook Express Inbox

Emails will get picked up by whichever correctly set up program is run first - they don't "go to" anywhere on their own - they're picked up.So if Outlook is not picking up your emails, you've simply not set it up correctly to pick them up.Cross check between the two programs how you've set up the server addresses, and your username/password in each program. The OE one is clearly correct - the Outlook one isn't.

I was playing a game on my laptop and decided to switch from wifi to ethernet. I plugged in the ethernet and turned off the wifi switch to ensure it switched over, but later when I tried to turn wifi back on, I see the wifi on/off switch is grayed out.

I went to my device manager to check for wifi network adapter driver updates, but everything seemed pretty up to date.

Any recommendations on how to fix this? Or at the least another method of turning the wifi on, like through command prompt or something?

Answer:WIFI on/off switch is grayed out

So to fix this what I did was hit the airplane mode key on my keyboard. The wifi switch in the pic I posted would stop being grayed out for about 5 seconds, and I had to switch it on in that time.

I'll note that flipping the airplane mode switch right above the wifi switch didn't do this, so I don't have a clue how it worked out.

I had Hyper-V and Ubuntu running on Windows 8 no problem. I've since done a fresh install to 8.1, and I can no longer create an External Virtual Switch. The button for "Create Virtual Switch" is grayed out when I select "External". I can create Internal and Private switches, but not External. There's no error or message so I'm having difficulty troubleshooting. All of the tutorials I've seen don't talk about any configuration I would need to do before creating an external switch. Any ideas? I have the default Windows 8.1 firewall and antivirus stuff.

I tried creating the Virtual Switch in PowerShell with the following commands

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Get-NetAdapter

Name InterfaceDescription ifIndex Status MacAddress LinkSpeed
---- -------------------- ------- ------ ---------- ---------
Ethernet Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller 3 Up B8-97-5A-13-7C-E6 1 Gbps

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> New-VMSwitch -Name "TestNew" -NetAdapterName "Ethernet" -AllowManagementOS $True

New-VMSwitch : Cannot find a physical network adapter named Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.
At line:1 char:1
+ New-VMSwitch -Name "TestNew" -NetAdapterName "Ethernet" -AllowManagementOS $True

Answer:Cannot Create External Virtual Switch (Grayed out)

So I think it was the Nvidia network chipset drivers that were causing the problem. I just went into device manager, uninstalled my Realtek ethernet drivers, and reinstalled. Hyper-V can now create an external switch. Just in case anyone runs into this issue again.

For that reason I would like to get the preview pane in Explorer at the bottom of the screen for having a readible preview for example of a pdf (because the new 16:9 screen are getting so low, and thus so narrow in portrait).

In that way one could also choose to have a filmstrip of the pdf :

pane bottom : filmstrip of pdf pages.

- Portrait monitor : the opposite

Question: Outlook 2003 Mail

I have two computers using MS Outlook 2003. I have a home and a work desktop with the same email address. I have them configured so that the mail stays on the server and I get the messages at work and they also appear at home. This works fine. == I recently got a third PC, a laptop. I only use this about every two weeks when I go to Starbucks. I am using the same email address as the other two pc's but would like this one to not keep the mail on the server so that I don't have a couple hundred emails that have to load each time I use it. I have unchecked the option in Advanced under Delivery to keep the mail on the server. It still loads a couple hundred emails. Is it going to be impossible to have Outlook configured two ways? Thanks,

OUTLOOK 2003: "the requested operation failed" error appears on Internet E-Mail Settings IMAP pop-up?

I'm trying to track this problem down: Am I making an operational error, or is Charter trying to get everyone using their web mail, or is MS slipping something into W7 updates to force customers to W10??
If you guys have any suggestions, etc, please advise as I will be with out an email client on my PC when our move is completed. Please see image below.

Hi All,

I'm using Outlook 2003 on Widows XP. One of my rules includes "Mark As Read" after moving the email to a folder. It does get marked as read, but the tray notification (envelope) still appears. This defeats the purpose for me, and actually makes it harder (I use multiple folders, so I hunt through each to find the new message). What am I missing, or is this a glitch? I just want it to be marked as read, and NOT show the tray icon.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, again.

Today's problem is a lack of incoming mail using my email client, Outlook 2003. The OS is Xp Home, SP3, on a Dell Dimension DM051.

1) The mail is on my server at my ISP, and I can still get it on my blackberry.

2) I have run scanpst.exe a couple of times, and all .pst file errors have been repaired.

3) The settings are the same as when it was working, so no changes there.

This happened once before. The problem first appears as a multiple copy downloading of email on a given day, suggesting that the problem originates with Outlook not recognizing headers on the server, so it continues to download new copies.

Last time, I did the following:

1) fixed the .pst file errors by running scanpst.exe

2) ran "detect and repair"

3) finally removed the office pro program, rebooted, and reinstalled.

4) The next day, I checked again, and the program started working normally.

That was perhaps a month ago.

So far this time, I have replicated all of the steps I took before, but of course, I have no idea what undocumented occurrence caused the problem to go away last time, or I would do that again THIS time. This means that I have not gotten to step 4, where the problem goes away.

I'm a little bewildered that a reinstall, a step I had previously regarded as the "gold standard" in software issues, was not in itself an effective fix for this for either occurrence.

Recently, within a few weeks, I've been unable to click a link in an e-mail message and open the page in a browser. When I mouse over the link it does NOT indicate it as being blocked. When I click the link I get a pop-up warning that reads "The operation has been canceled due to restriction on your computer. Please contact your systems administrator." I did not knowing let any restrictions.
Recently I tested SpamFighter but decided to uninstall it and wonder it it left behind some changes to the Outlook registry settings? I've gone through all the Microsoft material on this. I get the same message when I open the email in a new window in the internet zone.
I think the last monthly MS update included updates to the spam filter but I don't see any junk e-mail options that would fix this problem. This didn't use to happen.
This one has me stumped.

Answer:Outlook 2003 now blocks all url in e-mail?

Check the settings HERE

Also in OL2003 check that this SpamFighter has not left a COM Addin that could be blocking your email links, and instructions on getting to COM addins in OL2003 HERE (ignore the popup FixIt for freezing in IE, or you could run it, never know may fix the issue)

I would also as you have removed SpamFighter, run CCleaner and ist Cleaner then the Registry cleaner and run the Registry one until no items are left to be removed, this will just make sure nothing is let over in the registry that "could" cause this.

I've set it up so that I can get my AOL (via IMAP subscription) email in Outlook 2003. For some reason, the spam filter is letting all kinds of junk emails thru to my inbox that normally would've been tagge as spam using AOL 9.0 software. I've been manually having to mark them as blocked sender - one by one. I can't highlight all and mark them as blocked/junk.

My question is: If I just drag all the spam emails to the junk folder will it also be automataically marked as a blocked email address?

Answer:Outlook 2003 Junk Mail

Never found the junk mail in Outlook2003 to be very effective. Have used a free program called Spambayes for years. Nice thing is you "teach" it what you consider to be spam. After about a week it gets very efficient at moving junk mail to a junk mail folder and only what you consider to be junk mail.

I would like to use Outlook 2003 on Vista and tried it the other day but had to do all the email settings manually which wasn't a problem. Then came the ability to import all email's and contacts and I ran into a brick wall. Can anyone tell me how this is done or do I have to do it manually? Appreciate any help that is offered. J.B.

I'm am trying to send an e-mail to several people using MS Outlook 2003. Whenever I try to send an e-mail that has more than one recipient in the BCC: line, I get the following error message:

Task ' (1) - Sending' reported error (0x80070057) : 'Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid.'

I've checked all settings in Outlook and even gone to the trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling the entire Office 2003 Suite.

I've also checked my Norton Internet Security firewall settings and they seem to be fine as well.

I have downloaded and installed all Windows and Office updates. I'm running Win XP Professional SP 2 on a 2.5 GhZ machine with 1GB of memory and 160 GB of hard drive space.

Any ideas?

Answer:Sending E-Mail with MS Outlook 2003

How do you sepatate each e-mail address in the BCC field? It might be worth trying ; or , as it may be some sort of syntax error.

On the other hand, your mail host may have blocked sending to multi BCC recipients to prevent spam?

I have a small network (8 pcs using XP and Outlook 2003) and would like each PC to have its own email address and can send and receive mail across the network. I need to use Outlook as these machines are used for training.I will not necessarily have an internet connection - these machines and are moved from site to site.I have additional spare PCs / laptops. If possible I need a simple solution (for a simple person) and would rather not spend too much!I hope that this makes sense. Thanks

Answer:Internal mail using Outlook 2003

I think you would need to set one of your spare machines up as a mail hereTry a google for home mail server

I have a laptop that was used for getting company mail from an exchange server about a year ago. I've been off that company's exchange server for about a year and decided to set it up to get mail from my personal account with my ISP (Comcast) by adding the Comcast POP mail account. I had it going for about 2 weeks with everything working. Then today I decided to "remove" the mail account that was set up for the exchange server. When I did that, all the mail in my mail folder and my sent mail folder went away - Poof - Gone. All the mail that was in those folders that went away was a mix of old mail from the exchange account and the mail I created and received with the Comcast POP account for the past two weeks. I tried to restore the mail with the available pst files in "Documents and Settings\kgroth\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook" but they were only the Archived files from the old exchange account. I never did an Archive since I set up the Comcast POP account. I did find an ost file that seemed to be modified around the time I removed the exchange account but that was no help either. I saved a copy of the ost file in another place, renamed the original ost file as a pst file, then ran scanpst.exe to check it and all was good. If ove the last two weeks I never did an archive, are those mail messages gone? would windows have saved a pst file or other file with those messages someplace else? When it went away, I searched for all... Read more

Outlook 2003, can email still be recovered if a user has been deleted from Exchange?

Answer:E-mail recovery in Outlook 2003

There is a utility called Recovery Toolbox for Outlook that allows you to recover the deleted user (without most of the properties) and once the user is recovered you can just reconnect the mailbox.
You should also be able to use ?xmerge (download from Microsoft) to export the mailbox to a PST.

Outlook 2003 receives e-mail and put the header in the incoming folder. When I read the mail and click to close it deletes the header. If I close outlook all headers in the in-box are gone. Any ideas of what could be creating this problem? It was working correctly prior to this. Also noted that any mail received today and moved to a folder was gone.
When a received mail is opened and read then moved to a folder it is gone and can not be found. Any body have any ideas on this.

I am using Outlook 2003 and not Windows mail.
I put most of my emails in subfolders
Could I copy these email folders into empty folders in "documents"?
Would this be "exporting" them? If so, would they disappear from my inbox?
I've never been able to open outlook personal folders backups.
The more I learn, the less I understand!

HiI have Outlook 2003 on my laptop and it is behaving a little strangely. If I send an e-mail with a normal domain name (like .com, it works fine. But when I try to send an e-mail to the domain), the e-mail just sits in the outbox and blocks the queue. The very same messages sent from Outlook Express work fine. Does anyone know a reason why?regardsSteve
