works suite 2003 database

Question: works suite 2003 database

I have completed my database. I put one column in alphabetical order, and proceed to another, the column I just alphabetized goes back the way it was. They won't all stay alphabetical. What's the deal? Help?

Preferred Solution: works suite 2003 database

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: works suite 2003 database

This happens in Excel too, putting a column in alphabetical order is assumed to mean that you want all the rows to still contain the original values.

In Excel, you can highlight the data in the column and this sorts only that column - Then move on to the next column, etc.

If that doesn't work in Works, you may want to
sort the first column,
cut and paste the remaining columns into separate worksheets (one column, one worksheet) and
then sort them,
then copy them all back...

After a major crash I lost all of the Works Suite and had to reinstall it. Now the database crashes everytime I try to use it. Norton intercepts the crash and gives me this message:

Everything else in the Suite works fine.
I need some help.

I can not install/reinstall or uninstall works suite 2003 or Word 2002. The Windows Installer is not working with it. I would like to know if anyone knows how to safely remove all the entries from the registry or if you know any tricks. I have spent a week trying to figure this out. Question: Works suite 2003

I normally have works suite 2003 installed in my computer. Well I had to uninstall it for other reasons and when it was OK to reinstall Everything worked except for Windows Word. I keep getting a message "The patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exist and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package." Now I know it a valid installer package because I have installed it, twice. I don't understand why everything else installed fine but not Word.
Also how do you remove Ad-aware 6.0? I can't seem to remove it at all. It says "could not open INSTALL.LOG file.

Answer:Works suite 2003

Regarding the Word error, it looks like the Windows Installer file may be corrupt.

A solution may be found here, in the nature of a clean-up program from MS.

Any Word files that I create do not appear on the Woprks Task Launcher. Why is this?I am also unable to use Calendar. It complains that I do not have a Microsoft file Msdart.dll.Where can I get this file?

Answer:Works Suite 2003

Word is a separate program to Works... Anything loaded with Word will only appear on it's own list of recently opened files where'as Works will only be able to list/open it's own...As for the Calendar, check to see if everything is installed ok, if not the missing file should be on your Works install CD inside one of the .cab files...

Reinstalling software on a new partitioned hard drive. Is there any way to install MS Works to a drive other than C: ? The automatic installer didn't even offer me a choice of where to install, just dumped it on the C: drive.

Answer:Installing MS Works Suite 2003

Is Works on a separate MS CD, or part of the PC "Recovery Disks"?

If its a separate CD it should not use an "Automated Installer" but if its part of the bundled software, then you probably have no choice.

Works 6.0 and Works Suite 2006 problem

I now have MS Works 6.0 and am thinking about buying and installing Works Suite 2006. The reason is that I have a few databases on Works 6.0 with a number column and an item column. I used to print off the database and get a printout with the columns side by side. Now, for some reason, when I print out I get the items printed first, with no numbers column, and then the numbers column prints out with no item column. I have no idea how to fix that. If anyone happens to know how to fix that, I will just keep Works 6 and spend the money on wine, women and song. Otherwise, I will get Works Suite 2006 and hope that it doesn't have that problem, and also that I what I now have in Works 6.0 will show up in Works Suite 2006 when I install it.

I also presume that I do not want to uninstall Works 6.0 before installing Works Suite so that I won't lose what is on Works 6.0. Is that right?

Thank you, grandpaw

Answer:Ms Works 6.0 And Works Suite 2006

It appears that your problem may be caused by a change in your printer settings, especially if the spreadsheets appear normally when you view them. Have you tried to redo these? Upgrading Works (assuming the old spreadsheets will be compatible) seems an expensive way to fix a simple problem, and an upgrade may not fix it if the printing settings remain the same.

John

Can anyone tell me how to set the print area in "Database"? I want to print a form which shows lots of names down the first column, and then has a blank "Signature " column next to it, but with horizontal gridlines to take their signatures.

When I look on "Print Preview" it only shows the "Names" column, and I can't get it to print a column next to it. If I remember corectly, there is a facility in Excel for this, but I can't find it in the Database application.

Any help would be appreciated.

don't have works anymore (like a looong time ago) but since it's an Office-Lite product hopefully there's some similarities

maybe try the help feature for:

in the database and word processing software (it's likely the same help file, so it may not matter)

here's the detailed FAQ page and
here's one about works 3 and creating labels

sounds fairly similar to the office procedures

WORKS SPREADSHEET QUESTION:
:
I'm trying to figure out a way to use it to catalog my collection of 78 RPM records, but am stumped. Basically, I want to be able to sort them by record company, or title, or artist. each data field (think that's what its called -- I'm totally unfamiliar with spreadsheets) would contain, at minimum, something like this, but would have room to expand a field if needed to get more data into it re a disc or the performer(s).
:
DISC 1

TITLE: "Espagnol Waltz"
Performed By: Samuel Siegel
Instrument: Mandolin, with Piano accompaniment.
Recorded: Probably May, 1903
Company: Victor Talking Machine Company
Label # 446
Master / Take # If known: 446 / 3
Comments: Disc title is announced as: "Waltz Espagnol, Mandolin Solo by Mister Samuel Siegel".
:
On some disc's, the master / take field may have 20 to 24 letters & numbers in it.
:
But I cant get enough column width to type the info into A thru K. & have came to a stop.

Answer:MS Works Database

OK first thing is that you do not export from works, you have to import into Access. You have not said what version of any software you are using so I will assume that it is the latest click hereMy second point is, do you really need to use Access for this? If you are familiar with Access then fine but if not then I believe you will face a steep learning curve. Unless you want to do something really fancy you can probably get away with a spreadsheet-based database using, for example, Microsoft Excel.

Question: Works Suite

If I have regular Works on my computer and want to change to Works Suite 2003 what do I have to do first. Uninstall Works or what? I am running Window xp home.

Answer:Works Suite

Last time I did a Works install it did find an old version already partially installed (long story...customer tried getting help from four or five friends before calling me, etc.) and required it be uninstalled first. So just start the install of the newer version and if it needs the older version uninstalled first, it'll tell you.

If you've saved all the documents, pictures, etc., that you created in the old Works program in the My Documents folder, they won't be disturbed. However, some of the older Works suites save by default to a subfolder of the Works folder, so make sure your documents are in a safe place (copy them to My Documents, for example) before uninstalling.

I recommend you copy rather than move them because if something goes wrong (power outage, for example) during a move process, you can lose the files being moved. If something goes wrong during a copy process, you just start over.

Question: Works Suite

I am a novice so bare with me. I have a new Gateway computer...using XP operating system. I had Works Suite installed on my computer. Yesterday while using Word I noticed that when I inserted some pictures that I couldn't view them in the document. I didn't know what was wrong so I decided to uninstall word and try to reinstall it to see if that would take care of the problem. Well, it wouldn't install again. I ended up calling Gateway and spending over 2 1/2 hours on the phone with three different tech support people and after trying several things with them...they finally told me that something was wrong with the Works Suite disk (that I got in Jan from them) and that it was not under warranty. So basically tough luck. Well, I was going to buy another software package today but I brought the disk to work with me and tried to upload it on my work computer and it worked!!! Now, I don't know what to do. Gateway did have me try other disks and they would upload. Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks!

While you say "it wouldn't install again", you have not said exactly what happens when you try.

I'm working with a company that uses an OLD (obviously) Works Database to keep track of their customer's orders. I recently replaced one of their workstations and (naturally) they could not find the dirt old version of Works 6.0 they were using. I installed Works 8.0. Their database opened and all seemed right with the world. Over the last few weeks they've been calling me saying that the database will "disappear" while working on the new workstation. I look at the server and sure enough the file is gone. I have to recover from backup.

I can't replicate the problem, but it continues to happen to them. At first I thought it was something they were doing. Now I don't believe that's the case. I've checked the AV logs and that doesn't seem to be the problem.

If this was due to moving to 8.0 I would figure the problem would have manifested itself earlier.

This is an odd one and I'm out of ideas....

I was using Microsoft Works Database for the first time ever today (have occasionally used spreadsheet before); trying to organize info in a more easily scanned form, have it in 6 columns. All at once I looked up and saw that the numbers in one column had been replaced with ######. I tried deleting those and retyping the numbers, but the ###### keeps reappearing. If I press F2 the numbers will reappear, but only one at a time, and always revert to the ###### when I move on to another number in the column. I must have mistakenly hit an odd key, but have no idea what key that might be. Anyone know how I can get rid of the darn ######s?

We need to create a database, preferably a works database, because that's the program both of us have. What we need to do is collect statistics at the end of the day, and save all the results to one database. At the end of the year, we need to be able to go back in and total all occurrences of a particular statistic and combinations of certain statistics together.

I am TOTALLY GREEN in this area...can anyone help?? All suggestions are greatly appreciated....if more info is needed, please let me know!

Answer:Will a works database work?

Works will only "work" if it has an actual database like Access to enter your data into. You can set up one database and enter the data there directly. If you are on a network you can share the database and have forms set up for data entry. If you are in different locations you could use some kind of program like PCAnywhere and the remote person could dial in and do data entry on the database. There are way too many options so you might want to give us soem kind of idea on what your setup is and how to accomplish it.

I have an address book in the MS Works database which I use for mailing Christmas cards. Using the "older" versions of Works, it was very easy to set up the printing of envelopes in a batch process, then just stuff in the Christmas cards & lick the stamps. I don't remember what the older version number was that enabled envelope printing as I have since sold my older computer.

Now that I have upgraded to a newer version of MS Works (Ver 6,) I find that I cannot figure out how to print envelopes from the same database which I have imported to this PC. Not only that but there is no option in all the tabs for "envelopes" as there is in the earlier versions of Works.

My question is is there some work around or secret that I am missing here or has MS screwed up again and left that option out in the newer versions?

BTW, my wife's laptop has version 8 of MS Works and there is no envelope printing in that one either. ? ?

Answer:Spacebar Works Suite 6.0

Because 123 is a numeric value and you are using a spreadsheet, designed to perform calculations.

As soon as you enter a non numeric value (M), the spreadsheet determines that you are not wanting a number al all, and reverts to text formatting for the cell?

We have installed Works Suite 2001 under XP. It opens up correctly under the admin log on. When we try to open it under Restricted or Power user it does not open correctly. We get error messages regarding word 2000 (error 1706). After resetting the error messages twice the program opens to Task Launcher.
Microsoft recommends installing under the restricted user log on also. We tried that and it did not correct the problem.

When I launch Works Task Launcher and click on Programs, I can't find Word.
If I remember correctly, I used to have in the Launcher because I used it to address envelopes. Am I dreaming or am I thinking about a different version?

Good morning, I hope that someone can assist me in my endeavour. Some years ago, maybe 6 to be exact, I had Microsoft Works 6 Suite and I think the operating system was Windows 95 or was it 98, those in the know will know! I am a genealogy buff and saved all my family history to CD using Works 6. These CD's have not been used since.

I now have Vista and Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. I recently found the CD's and put them into the drive to check out my "old" information and the error message I get is: CD appears to be corrupted. I cannot understand this - why did it happen?

So I thought I would try to convert them to my current program BUT they will still not open for me to do this. I even downloaded a Works 6-9 conversion program 4.5MB but cannot open still.

Can anyone tell me if all my history is useless to me now. It was many years researching.

Help Please.

Hello again,

Now, here's my little dilemma; I am trying to install a new version of Microsoft Works Suite 2005 on a laptop computer. With the installation disc in situ, ready for installing, a message appears on the screen stating that for the installation to continue, all open programs should be closed and a list of these programs is shown. When I say list it simply advises that - iexplorer.exe - needs to close and that windows will close it for me by clicking on the relevant button. However nothing happens and so I have to attempt to close it manually.

On entering the task manger and opening processes, highlighting the -iexplorer.exe - and giving the command end task, it removes it's self from the list, but immediately then replicates itself in a randomly selected place within the working process list. Question , how do I close this process to enable installation of the software?

As a post scipt the internet service provider is AOL. ( By the way, this is not my laptop, but a friends ).
Regards,

Tony.

Answer:Microsoft Works Suite 8

Hi Tony.
It's most likely infected.
iexplorer.exe is associated with adware, spyware and trojans.
Better start there first.

Hiya and welcome

I'm a little bit lost at this bit:

Is that the part where you log onto Windows at the beginning, or is this the splash screen that appears when you run Works Suite?

HiHorror of horrors! I cant find my Works Suite dvd. After insalling new hard drive and XP pro, I am now without my beloved Works Suite 2005!Is there an alternative (free!)? Ive seen a bit about Open Office and Star Office. I know they appear to be compatible with MS Office, but are they compatible with MS Works? Will I be able to open Works Suite (Word) files, and Works spreadsheets?Or am I going to have to buy Works Suite again.....?h

Answer:Alternative to Works Suite

Hi, it's a bit early in the morning for there to be many people about who would know the definite answer for this but I believe Open Office is compatible. If I were you I'd download a copy and try it to see. You can do no harm by this and, when all said and done, there's nothing to lose except, at the very worst, ten minutes of your time.

Hey there,

Hope someone can help me out having a very perplexing problem that is happening in Microsoft Works with a database that my work has been using over the years without any problems.

The only way to explain it is that, when you work on the database one day the next day some of the information disappears in the report view mode (no one is deleting it). The columns A to F seem to go missing. Now A-F are the ones containing the data I need. I dont know if makes any difference if I were to put that (missing)information back into those cells into columns from H onwards.

How can I get those missing A-F columns back?

Does anyone have any idea why they go missing periodically?

Just recently after a hardware upgrade this has started to happen. I know that the version we are using of Works is 7. Would upgrading the software help this problem?
Would appreciate anyones input greatly.

Answer:Copy a Works database to Word

Open a word document
and Insert - object - select MS Excel Worksheet from the list.
Then if it comes out OK save the document and attach to an e mail.

Hi All,

Right now my "database" is a Word merge file that I use to insert merge fields in all my word documents, it's a bit archaic and slow, plus, there is no way to integrate with Outlook 2003. I tried Act! 2005, and its slow and clunky and wont work for my needs. I want to still be able to use all of my Word documents and all of the merge fields in them as well as update the database from Outlook, send emails to a sorted list, etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Roger.

Answer:Need database that works with Outlook and Word

To Roger:
Do You Have MS Office Suite installed on your computer? If so chances you have Msaccess, and i suggest you use access for your database. If msaccess is not installed get your office suite cd out and install the software. There is a learning curve, but give it a go and post your questions with the version of access your using and chances are someone will help.
Hope this helps, Flixx.

I want to create a new database using 'MS Works' 6.0 under Windows XP Home. I follow the 'Wizard's' instructions to launch "Create new blank data-
base" but I get no 'dialog box' from which to enter my new parameters. It just
gives me the last database I was observing. The 'wizard' tells me this is where I can make settings to configur my database to my needs, but it's not there. Am I doing something wrong, or is it a software problem?

Answer:MS Works has no 'Create Database' dialog box

I have MS Works 5 on one computer and MS works 7 on another, but they are both very similiar in the way they work. If you launch the MS Works Task Launcher and chose Works Database and then click on Start a blank database the box will come up for you to put in Field one -then add Field two, etc. (If a box comes up offering to show you what do to, just close it.) There are some differences between v. 5 & 7 when doing a mail merge, but that was not your question.

Use XP OS and Works 9.0. Got the following error message when I tried to open my document, which I'd been working on all day. It is my time sheet and now I can't open it, and I've lost ALL my billing for October. I'll donate big bucks if someone can help. Microsoft paid support is a joke. This has been a problem with earlier versions according to my Google search, but was supposed to be fixed with the 9.0 version - but obviously it's still an issue. Here's the error message:

There was a serious error loading the data. Your document appears to be damaged. Works will stop loading the document with what was read when the error occurred. Please try loading a recent backup copy of this document.

My backup won't open either, so I'm really screwed. I'm serious about the donation. Please help me get this file opened. Thanks in advance for your help.

I recently installed Works 6.0. I have just composed a database document containing two columns of information. But when I print it, only the first column gets printed. I'm not aware of having done anything to cause the program to print less than all of the document. I have fooled around with the Select buttons and various other buttons but to no avail.

Answer:Works won't print all database columns

grandpaw7, you dumbell. You have the column too wide. If you bring the right hand margin of the column over to the left enough, you'll be in good shape.
Signed, grandpaw7

TO grandpaw 7: Well, I'll be dadburned if you're not right! But the dumbells are those guys who didn't program Works 6.0 to tell me the problem, but instead just decided not to print the column if it was too wide.

Answer:Works Database File Viewer

For anyone whose interested/had the same problem it seems that there is no such thing as a "viewer" the best option though I've yet to try it is to save the file as a .csv and open it with open office. If you just want to view the data and copy and paste what you want it can also be saved as a text file - this is all assuming you or someone has access to Ms Works, as a last resort you can open the .wdb file with notepad or wordpad though its a lot more messy to access what you want. - hope this helps.

I am working with the Microsoft Works Database program that comes with Windows XP. I am listing a number of books, their isbn's and their prices. I evidently punched a wrong button because now every time I enter a new book the price from the previous entry is automatically entered for the new book. For example, if the price for the previous book was 19.99 that is automatically entered as the price for the next book.

It's not a big problem, because I can override it by simply entering the correct price, but still it's annoying. Anyone know how I can undo this default price setting?

Thanks!

How can I get my MS Works database files to be able to be transferred to another program such as Open Office or Office? I have a lot of collected information in many files that I can't share with anyone else who doesn't have Works. The Office Database is far too complicated for me and much more powerful than I need for my own use.

Answer:Microsoft Works Database files

Did you TRY exporting?

A typical choice for database conversions is to export -> CSV format and then work with that
to create the imports. Hint: Export only one TABLE at a time.

I had to re-install Windows 7 on my laptop but now I no longer have MS Works. Unfortunately I have a database in that format that I need to open TODAY and nobody sells Works anymore. Does anybody know how I might convert this or read it in another program?

Answer:Don't have Works, can't open database file

Hi

Sadly the .wdb format that Works uses and never understood why they have weird formatted files in Works, but only way is to have someone you know with works open it up and convert it to CSV format so that you could use MS Access or Open Office Base, to import into.

Or try this converter on a backup copy of your database file (never us the original) http://www.codealchemists.com/worksdatabaseconverter/index.html it converts to CSV and then you should be able to import into Open Offices Base (which is a Access database clone)

Open Office for Windows (its free) and some steps to try and get it converted and open in Open Office HERE

Tried to see if any trial versions wheres still available for you or a converter HERE (the demos are just videos sadly)

Some retailers or online ones still have them listed HERE on amazon but I know you need this today, but just posting a possible option for later.

I have on my present computer Microsoft Works Database, which is part of Microsoft Works Suite 2005. I have used this for quite a while to keep a track of my music collection.I am going to be getting a new computer in the near future and I would be getting Office 2007. I was wondering if this will have a database program in it or another program that would basically do the same job as the Microsoft Works Database that I am used with, I have heard that Excel could maybe do this. If the answer to this is yes, is there anyway that I would be able to convert the works database file into a format that would be recognisable with the new database program or Excel, the database I have for my music collection is very long and I would hate to have to start writing it out again a fresh.

Answer:Microsoft Works Database question

In Works DB File > Save As and save as file type Text & Commas (*.csv).This will open in Excel although you will lose any formatting.

Hi AllHope a Works Suite question is acceptable here. I have Works Suite 2002 installed, and just recently I needed to create some business cards for my own use. I cannot find any way to do this task in Works Suite. Is this actually possible? Surely this would be a fairly basic and everyday task many users would need to do?There is a wizard or template for practically every other task you could imagine but not for this, as far as I can see. I searched the Microsoft site for help and there was some article about creating business cards in Word but I think it was just filling in the informationin labels. i doubt if you could include clipart or fancy lettering. I also saw reference to a Works Suite 2004 "create business cards". Hmm. Maybe it has come at last but i dont have 2004 !Is there any way, or any shareware programme that might help? Shame on Microsoft if Works Suite cant do it!ThanksKC
