Outlook 2000 Gets "Mail delivery error" every so often...

Question: Outlook 2000 Gets "Mail delivery error" every so often...

My Outlook 2000 Gets "Mail delivery error" every so often, then you must close outlook, reopen, and then it works. THis happens about once a day. I've loaded the office updates to no avail. I've also uninistalled, and reinstalled ms office, and ran regclean a couple times in between, but still I have this problem. I've also verified I have no firewalls running, and my anti-virus version is Symantec Corporate edition 8.0. My o/s is WinXP Pro, sp2. We are not using an exchange server, just pop/internet mail.

Any thoughts as to how I can correct this?

Preferred Solution: Outlook 2000 Gets "Mail delivery error" every so often...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My wife and I both use Outlook 2000 to check multiple accounts on our respective domains. We both experience the problem that after some time of being open (it can be only a few minutes or it can be hours), we'll start getting "can not connct to (account name)". It's usually only one of the accounts, but it's not a particular account. It can happen to any one of the accounts I'm checking. Closing and restarting Outlook always fixes the problem, and sometimes just unchecking the account and re-checking it under the "Accounts" menu will fix it.

Basically it seems like Outlook just randomly loses the ability to check one of the account (which one is also random). It's annoying to have to close and restart outlook all the time. Any ideas why this happens?

Answer:Outlook intermittently gets "mail delivery error"

Are you using IMAP or POP for your mail? This is to be expected if you are using IMAP- Outlook is a little flaky with this sort of e-mail setup.

I use Thunderbird for my mail and I never have any such problems.

I can't get my e-mail all of a sudden, I keep getting this message:

unable to connect to the server. (Account: 'POP',smtp server: smtp,Error number 0x800ccc0e)

unable to connect to the server. (Account: 'POP',POP3 server: POP,Error number 0x800ccc0e)
I never changed any thing, my ISP does not support Outlook (only express) so they don't help much. They tried a few things but it won't work, My outlook express can receive/send so I don't know where ther problem is?
the last few e-mails I received were from the "[email protected]" but my anti virus stopped them (norton) I tried disabling my AV and firewall but no help. I ran the MS-Office repair option also.

Howdy All,

I was running Defrag last night, and lost power about 82% through it. I rebooted the system this morning, and everything seemed to be working fine, until I opened Outlook, and tried to Send/Receive Mail. Before it even attempted to access any of the servers, I received "Internet Mail is not registered properly. Please reinstall and try again. Error number: 0x80040154". I searched MS Support and came up with the standard fix to make sure correct version of Inetcomm.dll was there . . .it is. I also tried to make sure that outlmime.dll was registered properly, followed the instructions, and it is. None of this resolved the error, and MS offer no other solutions. I uninstalled entire Office Pro package, as there is no single listing to uninstall Outlook 2000, and reinstalled after reboot, but problem still occurs.

I can connect to the Internet no problem, it is just sending and receiving e-mails that will not work. Does anyone have any further ideas on what I can do, besides throwing my system out the window?

I have an AMD Athlone 650, 128 MB Ram, and running Win 98SE and IE 5.00.3105.0106IC.
Any assistance would be most appreciated, so thanx in advance.

so every day I literally get 100+ of these emails, when I open them they usually have something to do with world of warcraft, which I have NOT played in years. This inside contains this "This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. Delivery to the following recipients failed." then some WOW spam following that. Is there ANY way to stop this? idk why this is happening, and it will NOT stop. It all started when I put one of the wow addresses on my block list, then I took it off when this began and it still continues. If anyone has a solution besides making a new email, please let me know! thanks! There is a screen shot included

Answer:"[email protected] Delivery status notification (failure)" please help!

Spammers are using your email address (spoofed more than likely) to get past the spam filters. You can either cancel the account or you can wait it out and eventually (like a month or two) they will move on to another name

Email Hacked? I Keep Getting Return Titled "Mail Delivery Failure"
I suspect that someone has hijacked my Email and used it to deliver spam. I get the return titled "Mail Delivery System-Mail Delivery Failure," so I have to assume that someone is using me to send out MANY spam messages. I just get back the undeliverable ones.....but I'm getting 30-60 of these daily!

Does anyone have any advice as to how I can kill this program? I use Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Advanced System Care 5. I have Avira and Zone Alarm. This is an example of what I get. I've removed my Email addy and the spam that is always included at the bottom.....(work at home-type spam)

Thanks for any thoughts.....

All of a sudden, an address that I email to often won't go through. I get the message "DELIVERY FAILURE: User [email protected] not listed in public Name & Address Book"

I tried to access help but I can't understand what they're talking about. The address book, or whatever it is, is a mystery to me. It's not related to the "contacts", is it? Because I have all my email addresses in the contacts area. The address book, I don't know.

How do I resolve this?

Outlook 2003:I'm a massive fan of outlooks Search folders, I receive in excess of 400 emails per day, of which approximately 250 need my attention, even if to reply back and give someone an answer.

A problem I find is that I am so busy with my emails, I often need to clean out my inbox. I do this by setting up basic search folders such as "all emails from my team which are in my inbox only" or "any email sent to me which was part of a distribution list in my inbox only" etc...

This is great for filtering my mail and I would like to create a rule as such:

"All mail within my inbox which has been either replied to forwarded by myself".

I can't seem to find any options and I'm hoping an Outlook guru can help

If you don't know the answer, can you try googling it for me to see if you can find anything, loads of heads are better one...

Thanks in advance

Hi all, for over a month I've had this persistent virus (im assuming thats what it is at least) that takes over outlook whenever i open it and floods my inbox with "delivery failed" notices. I think the virus is using my email address to send out more spam or something, and its getting blocked by other people and sent back...

I've tried different virus scanners and virus protections, but nothing comes up. I also tried a trick of setting a fake account as my "default" so the virus will try and use that one instead. It seemed to work... for about a month but then the virus came back.

heres a picture of what it looks like, it floods non-stop sometimes, till my entire inbox is full!
anyone know a solution? I dont want to have to change my email!

Hi I run Windows Vista Home Premium and Outlook 2007. I've set up POP3 access for Gmail and to download mail from (an Australian ISP). Initial setup was fine and I can send test messages to myself.

Recently I've had trouble sending (but not receiving) email via Outlook. The following error message is shown:

Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

This message occurs for both my email accounts.

If I reboot the computer, then sometimes the mail will be sent successfully. I've checked the "account settings" on Outlook- and they are exactly as those given by my ISP/Gmail. But when I click on "test account settings", the test message can't be sent.

What's going on?!

Answer:Outlook 2007 "Sending reported error"- can receive mail but can't send!!

Refer to the earlier query in this section dated 10th April under heading " OE suddenly asking for Logon Password" which shows possible ways of overcoming this . I reckon it's server problem as I had it re-occur a couple of days ago . My Mail is Btinternet which started rejecting my outward messages. I know that BT uses Yahoo so Isubstituted "" for "" ( OE/Tools/Accounts/Properties/Servers) and it immediately started working . So whatever the ISP says it IS their fault and somehow their systems start rejecting things for no valid reason .

1) Anyone experienced this oddity?

I simply cannot find the FILE >>> "data file management tab"

I can't find any way to add the option to the "FILE" menu, eg in the OPTIONS >>> CUSTOMISE field.

2) As Sysadmin, I occasionally have to tidy up several .pst data files, which I connect to, and can see in the "folder view" pane, but I can't find a way to rename the individual "outlook today" main folders (option is greyed-out... I can only re-name the sub-folders)
Thanks for any help you can give!

Using Outlook 2000 with multiple POP mail accounts, on one machine when I did this I had a little drop down next to the send button that allowed me to choose which account to send a new email message from.

On a different machine (still Outlook 2000) the second account was set up but there is no choice and it sends through the default account only, does anyone know how to fix this !

I have tried looking in the file menu but it only has "send" but it should have "send using" as well.

driving me crazy !

Answer:Outlook 2000 - multiple accounts but no "send to" option!

Hmmm, if you have the multiple accounts set up properly, then you should be able to have the little drop down arrow on the send button to select which account to send from, but . . . .
right-click the toolbar int he opened mail and select Customize. In the Customize window, click on Commands tab, File in the left pane and scroll down in the right pane tioll you see Send Using. Click and drag that to where you want the button to appear on the toolbar and let go of the mouse button.

Click Close.

Now you can click that button to select which account to send with.

If the 2 accounts do not appear, then you do not have them both setup correctly.

What can cause "green text" in replies to emails sent from Outlook 2000?

Occasionally, someone will reply to an email my wife sends, and part of my original message will be in light green text on a white background, almost unreadable. She has occasional complaints from people that text received in emails from her is "green".

She uses Microsoft Word as her email editor, and she configured Outlook to "send all emails as plain text", but it appears that it doesn't always do that. I did a "View Source" on the problem email, and got the typical message filled with HTML bloat.

I've viewed the source of the outgoing message, and it listed "emailstyle16" as the style for the text, and that shows up fine (black on white) on her system. In the reply she got back, the same text was now in style "emailstyle15" which appears green over white.

The fragment of the style sheet that applies is:

Notice there is no complete definition of the font, color, etc. It appears to be asking Outloook to use some default emailstyle15, whatever that is.

Today I told her to stop using Word as her email editor, but will that solve the problem? Any help?

When I'm composing an e-mail, I click on the "To" button to bring up my list of contacts. Double-clicking on the name inserts the contact into the "To" box, but many times the name isn't displayed! There will just be a comma or semi-colon to indicate that something is there--but not the actual name. It doesn't happen for all contacts, but I haven't been able to figure out why it happens with some and not others. Recently we have migrated an entire overseas division over from a very old computer system to brand new VDI/VMware-based system. This, of course, includes importing PSTs (POP3) into their Exchange mailboxes.

What we're trying to do is find out if there are any missing e-mails ... by sorting by Received Date and scrolling down. Thing is, most of the users have dozens of folders. It would be impossible for us to find if they're missing e-mails like this unless we could get a view that would show all e-mail messages from all folders.

I did try the Advanced Search with blank fields and selecting the mailbox + checking to search subfolders as well, but it concatenates the total number of results to some several dozen results, so this is no good.

Any ideas?

Where I'm located it is now 9:11 a.m. I'm looking at a group of 17 messages that are tagged as arriving from 6:30 a.m. to 9:06 a.m. They were all delivered at once at 9:08.
Clicking Send and Receive doesn't accomplish anything in between "batch" deliveries. I have set the timing for >Advanced> Send/Receive Groups to 5 minutes, without any change.
On the other hand, my iPhone receives the same messages as they arrive. I think this shows that my ISP isn't to blame. It seems to focus on my Outlook 2016

Hello, got a bit of an odd problem, not sure if it's an outlook or a server issue but I'm suspecting outlook.
We're running terminal services with windows server 2008 and for the most part it's grand, but there's one user that has a bit of a problem.
When they send mail the mail gets sent no problem but about a quarter of the time the frame of the message remains. The border is there but the main text field is transparent. It'll stay there until it's closed.

It's not exactly mission critical but it's rather odd and I haven't been able to do anything about it so far

any ideas?

I am using Outlook 2002 on Windows XP with two users. On both user accounts I select the delivery option to "leave mail on server." This works fine with one user, but it is not staying "selected" with the other user. Let me explain: I check the box that says "leave mail on server" and while I'm in Outlook that session it seems to be working fine, but when I close Outlook and then open it again later to check email, I notice that it is not leaving mail on my server. I go back to the delivery setting and the "leave mail on server" check box is unchecked?? I've gone in and selected it at least 10 times and each time I log back in it is not checked anymore.

I checked the settings against the other user, where this option is working just fine and as far as I can tell both users' Outlooks are set up exactly the same.

I'm using McAfee SpamKiller, not sure if this has anything to do with the problem, but I know these kinds of programs can affect email clients in wierd ways like this.

Does anyone know how I might be able to fix this?

I appreciate any advice that can be offered.

This is because, no need to log-on the mail server each time to clean up the read emails by hand, this way could release enough space for receiving email. Is because the ISP charge on over-quota space for emails, or just will block excess emails over the allowed space.
The problem started, when a friend told me could set the email folder away from the hard-drive C, I set it as per his suggestion. Then, the "auto-cleaning function" stopped performing.
I asked the ISP and was told because "Outlook Express" is designed by Mircosoft Inc. so they could not help.
Then, I set it back to the "defaulted folder", but the function could not be recovered.
This is quite annoying that I have to log-on the email server and clean up the emails daily by hand.

So I'm on the latest build of Windows 10 (the one ending in 420), and I've got Outlook 2016 always running in the background. But somehow both my phone and the Windows 10 Mail app manage to be more useful than Outlook 2016 when it comes to fetching mail immediately, or as it arrives. Outlook 2016 is stuck fetching mail every 5-10 minutes because apparently there's no simple "as items arrive" option for this unnecessarily expensive program.
Really, Microsoft?
Today I went 2 hours without a single Outlook 2016 notification. The moment I shut my computer off and checked my phone before going to bed... you guessed it. I had 2 new emails from work timestamped to 1 hour ago!!! And I never got a desktop notification or email alert from Outlool 2016 while my computer was on! I've checked and rechecked the mail notification settings for Windows 10 and every single notification setting is set to 'on'. Yet I receive new mail alerts so inconsistently on Outlook that I'm considering asking MS for a refund, if they'll give me one.
Is there anything I can do to remedy my situation?

Answer:Why is it that the Windows 10 Mail app has an "as items arrive" setting but Outlook 2016 doesn't?

We are moving from Windows XP / Office 2003 to Windows 7 / Office 2010
Huge change and of course people try everything that is possible...and impossible, things that you wouldn't of think of doiing.

But yes it seem you can actualy take files, in that case PDF files on your desktop and drag and drop them into an Outlook folder directly.

It doesn't show as an MSG file, it realy show's itself in Outlook as a PDF and you can double click it to open it.

It probably has the same system as Windows Explorer does

We have Symantec Enterprise Vault to Archive emails witch will automaticly do so after a predetermined period of time
We can archive the PDF file and it will result by creating a blank email from yourself with a PDF attached to it

So it does seem to work, i don't see any bugs or error or problem soo far.
But that is "so far"
I can't find anywhere on the internet a post or something that tells you "yes you can do that with Outlook 2010"

Anyone has an opinion on that matter understanding that everyone has differents ways of working...

Thank you

Want to set some accounts to check for new mail every ten minutes, others every 30 minutes, others not at all (only manually). Can't see how to do this. Even TBird can do that. What am I missing?

Answer:How to set "check mail" times for Outlook 2010

It is quite easy, in fact. In Outlook you do this using so called Send / Receive Groups. A group can include just one or multiple mail accounts.

You can define Send / Receive Groups as you wish by following these simple steps:
On ribbon, select Send / Receive > Send / Receive Groups > Define Send / Receive Groups:

Click New to create a new Send / Receive Group:

Give the group a name, click OK:

Select account you want to include in this group on the left pane, select Include the selected account in this group. Do this for each account you want to add in this group, finish by clicking OK:

Set the online and offline send / receive values for each group:

Save settings by clicking Close button
That's it.

Notice that you can also send / receive each group manually:

I send and receive e-mails on Outlook Express 5. When I receive an e-mail from an AOL user, and try to respond by clicking on "Reply", all the AOL receiver gets back is the letters yp. In Outlook Express check these settings:

Include message in reply

From Marfers Notes
When using HTML to reply, use the option to "Include message in Reply"< even if you remove it before sending. The YP can also be removed in the "Source": tab of the compose window. (View menu , check "Source Edit")

Could removing it do any potential harm or damage to Windows XP, IE or Live Mail itself?

I'm running windows 7 on a 1 year old PC, and use windows live mail as my mail program of choice. oddly enough, WLM sometimes eats my emails, only showing a portion of them. this is NOT the issue where images are hidden: more often than not, it's the text or body of the email. and they can be from any number of sources; personal emails from regular contacts, or even the generic group messages, like from twitter and facebook.

that's how they look, whether i view them inside the program or double click on them to have their own window. however, the emails come through fine via webmail or my phone, just not in WLM, where the text is hidden.

any ideas...?

if it helps trigger any ideas, this seems to happen to specific addresses (like, all twitter emails, or all emails from my friend karl) instead of just every email.

Here's one for you Outlook gurus. I have talked to a lot of people about this (including 2 Outlook trainers), and they cannot figure it out. I am about at the end of my rope...

Here's the challenge:

A new entry is put into the Outlook 2000 calendar (double click on the time of the event.)
In that window, there is a drop down menu, which is marked "show time as." In that drop down menu, "busy" is chosen.

After the entry is completed and saved, that date does NOT show in bold, on the calendar pane. Instead, there is a grey box around that date.
When clicking on the "attendee availability" tab, the newly entered calendar event, does not even show up. I know the event has been saved, as it DOES show up in the calendar pane (with a grey box around it - not bolded, as it should be.)

Now, here is the weird part-
The entries that I am having problems with, were done in the last week or so. If I enter one right now, it will appear correctly. This only seems to be happening with older dates I have already entered.
Also, if the "show time as" drop down menu is set to "out of office", saved, then set back to "busy", the date will now show correctly.
This is a community calendar which is used by more than one person.

This problem is causing events to be scheduled at the same time, as Outlook is not recognizing when events have already been scheduled for certain dates.

A couple of variables:
1. The PC was recentl... Read more

So, I set up a Windows 7 pc for my boss (who has been using XP since it came out) and to not completely lose him I installed Outlook 2007. Everything transferred over fine. The problem I am running into is that when he sends emails some of them are not reaching the recipients.

It is completely random and they are not getting hung up in the outbox they are indeed in the "sent" folder. I ran scanpst to no avail.

Any advice? Like I said the bulk of messages are going through it is just random ones that are not. It is indiscriminate whether there are attachments or who the recipient is.

Do you have a recovery restore install disc or partition?
You can try doing a repair or system file check...
Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files...

Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC)
Itscans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer...
To Do This:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command:
SFC /scannow
And then click OK
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC..
You will need your Windows XP CD during this procedure if SFC needs to get an original file. Please remember that Windows XP can have multiple instances of a .DLL file and remember which version is for which program.
I have been asked if it is possible to have a "progress meter" show when SFC runs... This is the registry hack you need. PLEASE do not go messing with your registry if you do NOT know what you are doing!
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Value Name: SFCShowProgress
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

I have Outlook 2010 and Windows 8.1.  When attempting to open e-mail in Outlook 2010 or documents in Word I get the following error:
"Outlook could not create the work file.  Check the temp environment variable."
I've read several Microsoft KB articles and several forums on this issue.  According to these articles, This problem occurs when the Cache string value in the registry doesn't point to a valid directory.  The solution provided is to:
Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Right-click the Cache key, and then click Modify.  Then modify the sting value to:  %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache
When performing this step, the cache value was already set to the value above.  I attempted to overwrite by typing the same value for the string, but that did not solve the problem.  I attempted to change it to a different value, save it, and then
modify it to the correct value and save it, but that did not solve the problem.  I also attempted to go in to the INetCache folder under Users\"user"l\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache, rename it, recreate a new folder and copy all subfolders
into it, and that did not solve the problem.
I am out of things to try from the user forums I have researched.  Appreciate any insight anyone might have on how I can solve this problem.

I was running a 250 gig seagate harddrive for a while no problems, then I tried to add my old master drive as a slave to see what data was on it. I can't remember exactly what it said, needless to say it wouldn't boot. I got rid of the old drive and focused entirely on getting the newer drive back functioning as it had been. When I booted up, it recognized the drive and then hit me with the "error loading os" message. I tried every conceivable configuration of the cable, jumper settings etc and still the same error. I went out and bought a Western digital drive but the problem is all I have to install on it is a windows xp cd. So i installed xp on the new drive, then plugged in my other drive as slave. It recognized it and got to windows where I notice that only some of the folders are showing up. The main thing I noticed that was missing on the drive was the programs folder. I have a folder full of portfolio stuff etc and another with music and both of those showed up. I set file view options to show hidden files etc as well. I'm hoping that because the other drive is formatted from windows 2000 and I'm running xp, that it might cause the compy to not recognize part of the drive or something. Also I ran scandisk on it and it didn't find any errors. Any ideas as to how to recover the rest of my precious drive? I know about some recovery programs but am a little afraid of trying them out without getting some advice from people who know about ... Read more

Answer:"error loading os" in windows 2000

Sounds like your seagate is going out. I had just ditched my Seagate Barracuda 2 (250GB) because it was doing something similar. As far as you plugging it in as a slave, that was the proper thing to do as far as trying to get your old files. But you might have missing files if your drive is going out, or got too close to a magnet

I am getting problem whenever I?m trying to send Email using Microsoft outlook express 2007. I am getting this error message ?Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Error Number: 0x800CCC0F? please help me in resolving this error.

Answer:Why is this error coming "Error Number: 0x800CCC0F" in Microsoft Outlook Express continuously?

Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. I assume that you?ve ruled these out.

The problem may also occur if you have an antivirus e-mail protection utility enabled, which checks the mail as it comes in from your Post Office Protocol (POP) server. To test this, disable the antivirus e-mail protection utility as well as the Windows Firewall.

Another likely cause is that there is a message that is either too large or corrupt in some manner. Logon to your servers Webmail site and delete the offending message there.

I have a work issued laptop, with my work email set up through Windows Live Mail 2011. It works fine in the office, but for some reason, when I work from home, messages won't send over my wireless connection.

The "errors" I get are "Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E" and "Socket Error: 10060".

It's a standard Toshiba black laptop. The email is a Squirrel Mail account. And in properties, I have the "My server requires authentication" option checked.

Forgive me, but I'm not well-versed with the lingo. I do more with design and editing software. Again, it works fine with my internet connection at work, but not at home. So I wonder if it maybe has something to do with my home internet. Both are wireless. Home is DSL through AT&T.

Hopefully, I can get this fixed today, or I'll be forwarding emails through my personal account. Fun stuff.

This afternoon, all of a sudden, I couldn't log into Outlook, Gmail, enter an address in IE or use Google. Whenever I entered a "r" the "Run" box would appear and whenever I entered an "e" the search box would appear. Most of the letters worked OK but a lot of them brought up something else. This has never happened before. I tried using "System Restore" all the way back to 12/31 but that did not help. I have been running ESET NOD32 (it's 97% finished and although it hasn't found any virus infections, it has located numerous errors opening files.)

Then, all of sudden, the situation corrected itself and I was able to log into Outlook and Gmail and use Google.

Also, I don't know if the two problems are related, but I cannot "print" e-mails from my mail either....unless I unplug the printer (also HP) for 15 seconds or so, then re-plug -- what happened? I have no problems printing from our AOL or accounts. Thanks for any suggestions!

Answer:"... an error prevents Slide Show" from running in e-mail

With all due respect, it sounds like a Yahoo problem. Have you spoken with them?

I finally got fed up and tried something. It worked. Here's what I did:

From "Start" go to "settings" and "Control Panel."

Click on "Add/Remove Programs." (Don't panic. We won't be removing anything.)

Select "Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools." (Continue not to panic.)

Double-click on it and-- this is VERY important, as I don't know what headaches await if you get this wrong-- Select "Repair Internet Explorer," then "OK."

Follow the instructions, and you should be fine. I don't know if this works in XP, though, so proceed with caution.

I never ever had this issue with Outlook Express. Suddenly, after I tried to delete some messages, I get the above error. I tried to move the messages to my deleted folder, nothing. I tried to move the store folder to another directory, nothing. I even uninstalled and uinstalled Windows Live, same thing. No success.

Any ideas? Workarounds?

Hi Folks,

My elderly mother somehow crashed her e-mail, and I'm trying to fix it for her. It is a pop mail server. She clicks the Live Mail icon on her desktop and the mail would open.

She could still go to on the web and get into her e-mail but that is too complicated for her. So I need to get it working from her desktop.

After the crash when the mail opens from the desktop icon all folders (inbox, sent etc.) have the error message "Unable to display folder".

I want to uninstall all current mail installed then install anew. I tried this but then the new Live Mail reverted to her old settings etc (I don't know how that happened), and hence the same error message. So I must not have uninstalled all of the old e-mail.

Can anyone please help as to the easiest way to get her live mail from the desktop icon working again?

Thank You

Answer:Live Mail crashed. Now error mssg " Unable to display folders"..?

Do you sense that your nice Mom's old mailboxes are still around? Or, have they been deleted by now? Reason for asking: I know where in [user] AppData Local and Roaming where the Mozilla Thunderbird doodads, doohickies, and mailboxes are. I'm hoping Windows Live Mail does the same thing. If so, it's possible to reconstruct from any recent restorable folders/files backup. If no backups, then, I don't know any further.

When trying to start Windows Live Mail I get an error message stating "Windows Live Mail could not be started. Closing Windows Live Mail. Your calendar contains corrupted data that is forcing WLM to close".

The error number is 0800010105.

I have researched this on the internet and found numerous possible solutions and have tried all of them with no luck in solving the problem. So far I have tried:
1. Uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Live Mail.
2. Running repair on Windows Live Mail.
3. Checking the date and time and unchecking the box to adjust for daylight savings time.
4. Deleting the Calendar folder under the Windows Live Mail folder.
5. Deleting my Hotmail Calender on the web and creating a new calendar.
6. Creating a new user account and running Windows Live Mail under that account (same result).
7. Resetting Internet Explorer to the default settings.

I am including the WindowsLiveMail.log file as follows:

Hello, I've recently been trying to download and install Windows Live Mail. That part was easy, however, upon opening the program, I receive error messages. The first one says, "Sorry, something unexpected happened and Windows Live Mail must close, your most recent changes may not be saved." Then another error box is displayed stating, "Contacts failed to load. Windows Live Mail is incorrectly configured, please re-install." I've uninstalled and reinstalled this program several times, but still not sure why I am receiving these errors. I did edit the registry, deleting the keys for all Windows Live folders insuring a complete uninstall, then reinstalled a fresh download of Windows Live Mail but STILL got the same error messages. I also tried to clear the Live Contacts Store/Cache by renaming the Live contacts folder so a new one would be replaced. Still nothing...This is getting frustrating...Anyone have any other suggestions?  Thanks!

I'm finding Windows Live Mail very frustrating. Just occasionally, when I try and do something with an email such as 'delete', I get "an unknown error has occurred" window pop up. There appears to be no reason for it to happen that I can establish . Anyone else noticing the problem and any solutions?

Answer:Live Mail "an unknown error has occurred"

Apparently you are not alone with this problem. The best solution I have seen is this one. Your only other option is to contact the Windows Live Solution Center

This might be why e-mails aren't getting through, but just a guess. :X

Answer:Halp, I get "cannot create tmp lockfile" mail error

It is trying to write to a directory under /root, so only root (user + group) is going to have write permissions. Notice how the first line is the daemon changing user to 'nobody'.

I would suggest looking at the documentation to figure out where the lockfiles should be stored (usually a dir under /var), then creating a file owned by nobody (or better yet, owned by the spamassassin user).

Windows Mail suddenly does not send or receive messages. When I attempt to send a message, I receive the following error, "The message could not be sent. An error has occurred." When I click the Send and Receive button, the pop-up box comes up, but not long enough for me to read anything. However, it appears to complete the send/receive process with no errors. I have had issues in the past and often received an error number, but not this time. When I go into my accounts, I have changed the password to my incoming server to the wrong one to see if it recognizes the error and have also changed port numbers and still receive no error. I have attempted working offline and double-checked to ensure it recognizes the wireless internet connection - which it does.

I do not currently have and have never had any anti-virus programs installed on my computer. I have logged into my email through my browser and deleted all emails from all of my folders, closed Windows Mail and then re-started it to no avail.

I would just upgrade to Windows Live Mail, but I already did that once before when I was experiencing other problems with Windows Mail, and that program has also stopped working correctly so I had to go back to Windows Mail. Therefore, it appears that if I cannot get this issue resolved, I will be stuck using my browser (which is not very user-friendly) and my iPhone. Needless to say, I am quite frustrated with Windows Mail and Vista!

Answer:Windows Mail - "The message could not be sent. An error has occurred."

First let's fix the major problem of not having an antivirus! For now please download Malwarebytes and run a full, updated scan. Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download That should clean up any bad software on your computer. And I would imagine you have a lot... There are plenty of good free antivirus programs out there, most of the people on this site highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

After running malwarebytes, see if your mail problem is still occurring.

Personally, I just have to recommend you switch to using Mozilla Thunderbird, instead of Windows Mail. It's very clean and easy to use. And free. Check it out. Mozilla Thunderbird That's just a personal suggestion, you don't have to if you really like Windows Mail

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.

The tech guys on that forum were unable to find the source... Read more

Answer:Windows Explorer "Duration" Column - no "Seconds", just "Hours" and "Minutes"

Had a sudden inability to go much further than a third or forth-level download on ANY given webpage and then PC would seize-up, requiring "cont+alt+del" in order to get freed-up. Thought perhaps I picked-up a bug of some sort during a recent google search, and went immediately to Panda and Trendmicro to perform both virus as well as malware scans. While the Panda scan was loading-up, I received the following error message....

... " DoPatch....dll reports error....Error "C:\WINNT\patch.utp"....unreadable or not a patch file..."

Was able to complete both scans. Nothing found other than tracking cookies.

I then did a file serch for the above and located it. It was installed TODAY apparently, and not by me, within minutes of the problem starting.

I'm guessing someone/thing slipped this patch into my WINNT file or modified it while I was doing the google search, so I have included a HJT scan below.

Hope this all makes sense and ties-out to something. Any help would be genuinely appreciated-

I converted from Outlook Express to Windows Mail a few months ago when I got a new desktop. Yesterday, I tried to send a message to a group. I've used it often in the past. Here's the error message I got:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider. The rejected e-mail address was '[username]'. Subject 'test', Account: '[Account name]', Server: '', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.2.1 User unknown: [username]', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79.

I've tried the "my server requires authentication", but it still does not send. Any answers?

Been using Vista Mail for a long time. Recently when I press the "Send/Receive" button it throws an error.

There is no error code and only the text, "Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list below for more details".
There is nothing listed below and the Errors tab window is completely blank.

I tried searching around Google for an answer to this and found some tips about file space that didnt work.
I compressed my messages. Then cleaned out my Sent folder. Then I just wiped out every message I had.
I deleted all msgs in Deleted Items, Sent Items, Inbox, Junk E-mail and Recovered messages.

Still receive the error.

Crazy thing is it ONLY happens when I press the "Send/Receive" button.
It will not send or receive any messages at all this way.

When I shut down Vista Mail it tells me if I have unsent messages in my Outbox and asks if I would like to send them.
I click "yes" and it sends them and retrieves any new mail on the server no problem.

Vista is updated daily
Im using Vista SP2 and Mail ver 6.0.60000.16386

How do I get rid of this false blank error.
