Exchange Server putting wrong date on emails

Question: Exchange Server putting wrong date on emails

I have Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 running on a Windows NT 4.0 SP6 server. All is well except for the 'sent' date on emails. Due to the rule in the Outlook calendar where all entries are pushed forward or back an hour when the time zone changes we have the "Automatically update for British Summertime" box unchecked on each server and computer and simply change the time every six months. The time on the email server is correct and the time on the desktop computers is correct. However when we send external emails they seem to arrive an hour before they were sent and when we send internal emails they seem to arrive an hour after they were sent. This does not make sense and I don't know where else to look for time settings, can anyone help please?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Exchange Server putting wrong date on emails

Delete the rules and see what it does. The emails should only get the timestamp from the server.

We are migrating our Exchange Server 2003 to Exchange 2010 and everything is working great except external emails are going to the old exchange server for some reason. I can't figure this out. Outgoing and internal email works fine.

I am thinking some kind of DNS problem?

This must be something simple but I am not an exchange guru.

On the 30th of Dec. my "received" column in Outlook 2002 changed to the 2003. Now it says 2004. The date in the actual email is correct when I open it.

It only does this with messages that I receive thru Yahoo. The ones I get thru another server have the right date.

All other programs and even the calendar in Outlook 2002 are all correct. It seems that Yahoo is somehow sending the wrong code to my browser.

This has not happened to me before and is doing it on both my computers.

I can't find a tech support address at Yahoo. Anyone have one for them?

Please help. I am frustrated!

This is an interesting situation I thought I could share and hopefully get some guidance...

We are using Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003.

An employee noticed her emails she sent to clients around January 4th have not been replied to-so she checked her Sent Items folder to perhaps resent the message. Only to find out, none of those emails are in that folder. I've checked the exchange server, to try and track down a few emails send on that specific date and to whom--but couldn't get information two weeks ago so that doesn't help me. Luckily her emails starting from 18th have been going makes me wonder what happened prior to that date?!

Could it have been waiting in the que or something? Or is it depending on the amount of email being sent out--could hers apparently been the unfortunately one to get kicked back?

I've been having this problem for about 1 week and I'm tearing my hair out. I send an email (happens on all accounts) and the time date is correct in my sent folder, but when I receive a reply from the recipient I notice that the time date is a different time and 1-1/2 years in the future.
This happens when using Windows mail on my desktop (Windows 10) or through Outlook from my browser. I've tried both Firefox (my default) and Edge. Some problem all around.
My date, time and region settings are all correct. I have removed and re-added accounts through Outlook online and Windows Mail.

Answer:Auto forward emails on exchange server

Nevermind... I managed to figure it out. For future reference for anyone who cares, you can forward emails by opening the list of users on your server and right clicking the account and display the account properties. There is a a tab that says "Exchange General" and there are options to forward email to other users on that tab.

Running Windows Exchange Server 2003 and Outlook 2003. Have created a new user/email account on the server. Have also created a website which has a page for viewers to request info (by entering their email address and clicking the "submit" link (which sends their info to the new email address on the server and sends the info they requested to the email address that they provided.) When an outsider completes the form and submits it they receive the info they requested and their info goes to the email address we created on the server. If an insider (other users/email addresses on the server) complete the form and use their address they do not receive the info in their inbox nor does the new email account on the server receive their info.

I thought it might have something to do with our spam software. We have ORF. I tried turning off the spam filter and ran a test but still did not receive anything.

We have Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 at our Organisation, it has been working great over the past couple of years, however, all of a sundden, in the past month, some (not all) emails which have been sent to some people in the organisation have not been reaching them.

And also sometime when a continual email conversation is occuring, some replys do not rech their recipient inside out organisation.

Can someone please tell me why this is occuring, and how I can rectify it, its quite urgent as we are trying to get some important documents emails into us, yet they are not getting through. HELP! HELP HELP! Thankyou... It would be greatly appreciated...

Hey guys,
I have a question about coding and setting an excel file to send emails. I am using an excel file to track maintenance work orders and I would like to get an email each day for each work order that is requested to be finished on that days date. I have attached the excel file I am using, and the column that is important is C, "Date Needed" - If that date is today's date, the cell turns red and I would also like to get email notification about it. A separate email for each cell that matches today's date.

Also, if possible, I would like for it to look at all the sheets, not just the current month's sheet. For example, if a work order was filed in July but wasn't needed until September, I would still like to get the email reminding me that it needs to be finished on xx date in September.

I have attached the excel file I want to use.

I have searched all over this forum and others and have found many posts similar to this, but I am not a great manipulator of code, so I cannot get any of the other solutions to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I am hoping someone can help me. I have looked and looked and looked for the answer to my question with no luck.

I am wondering if it is possible to setup Exchange 2003 Out of Office replies to respond to a non-Exchange mail server within the same domain without opening up to the internet. The reasoning is to prevent spam programs from detecting legit addresses.

Main Mail Server for Staff & Faculty: Exchange 2003 Enterprise Edition

Main Mail Server for Students: SurgeMail from

They are in the same domain, but I am wanting to allowing the students to get an Out of Office Reply if a teacher they are trying to contact is not available.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Send Exchange 2003 Out of Office Replies to non Exchange server in same domain

If what you are trying to say is you only want to send OoORs to a specific domain, I don't think that's possible. However it shouldn't matter if you are using a spam firewall--either way they can figure out valid email addresses when their spam doesn't get bounced back to them.

In Exchange 2000, as in Exchange 5.5, a public folder is a storage container for messages or information shared among all users in your organization. Public folders can still contain different types of information, and they are still part of the information store that Exchange clients and Web browsers can access. Now, Microsoft Office 2000 and custom applications can also access Exchange public folder stores. You can open and save documents directly in the public folder stores.

Happy Holidays, everybody!

I've got a 90th birthday picture project that I'm assembling and am getting pictures from several sources. Sometimes I'll get two or three sets of image files, all of which are labeled "img_001.jpg, img002.jpg, img003.jpg", etc. These come from several past years. When they're dumped from a thumb drive to my working folder, and then displayed, they get all intermixed. (I use irfanview to view the collection, to assure they're sharp focused, etc.)

I sorted the folder by date, went to the first file and launched irfanview. I get the selected file. If I click the "next arrow", I might get the next physical file, not the next-by-date. The program has a slideshow function that will sort it for you and display by date.

What I really want is to get the files into the date order physically on the disk, so that when copied onto a digital picture frame, for example, it will play sequentially by date if possible. I don't know that they have a lot of intelligence, to sort the pix by itself.

I tried sorting by date and the copying to a different folder on a different disk, but it always changes when I access it afterward. With 400+ pictures, I don't want to do them one-by-one.

Any freeware out there that'll do it for me?

Hello, I have a quick question about how some people put images inside their emails. That is, when you open it, the images come up automatically. For example, an image with some text below it telling a story or something. The images are not attachments.

How do people do this? Is it some code where the image is actually linked on Photobucket or Shutterfly? does it depend on what email you use. or is it some setting in your email? Or lastly, does it depend on which email account you use to open these emails.

Thanks so much. I've been meaning to ask this for a while now.

EDIT: just thought I'd let you know I use yahoo mail - free account. But I'd like to know about how other accounts differ. Thanks.

Answer:Question About Putting Pictures Inside The Emails

When the images are embedded in an email, the sender has used the Insert option instead of the Attach option. This is available in Outlook Express and ThunderBird however, Yahoo mail doesn't offer this type of feature. You must send the image as an Attachment. There are programs like Googles Picasa that allow you to write captions with the picture and automatically resizes and attaches pictures to email.

Well....I am curious how things run in other companies. In our company, we have about 450 users. All users have an unlimited size on their mailbox (my fiance's company only allows for 300mb of space for each user). Some of our users have 20gb+ mailboxes....which they complain about being "slow".

Well no shit....

So...what is typical for your company? Do you allow unlimted mailbox sizes? How much storage space do your users take up on exchange? Ours is over 3-4terabytes...for only 10-12 years.

We ran out of space on our old exchange server, which totally sux because if it's out of hdd space, and you have everything in 1 store, then there's nowhere to run eseutil to try and shrink it as a temp fix... you are basically screwed, had to copy 90gb to a different server, run util, copy back just to get exchange back up and running while we could get more space... Map services have become super popular these days, and everyone seems to be using them, especially for their daily commute given the fact that most also include traffic information.

And yet, Australians living in Melbourne and using Bing Maps were surprised to find out that Microsoft actually placed their city in the wrong hemisphere due to what seemed to be an issue affecting coordinates.

As The Reg reports, whenever users searched for Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on Bing Maps, Microsoft claimed the city was at 37.813610, 144.963100, and while the coordinates were right, not the same thing could be said about the hemisphere.

Blaming Wikipedia
When contacted on Twitter, Microsoft actually acknowledged the bug and blamed Wikipedia for putting Melbourne in the wrong hemisphere. While it?s a little surprising to see a company the size of Microsoft relying on a service such as Wikipedia, which anyone can edit freely, it?s important to note that the developer APIs didn?t have this error.

?This issue has been fixed. Missing negative sign in Wikipedia data,? Microsoft?s Ricky Brundritt explained. ?Not too much,? he added when being asked how much Bing relies on Wikipedia. ?Mainly only for rich description on map website. The developer API's don't use this and didn't have this error. This issue was limited to a few regions as duplicate entries for this result we... Read more

We have an exchange server at my place of employment. When setting up an email in outlook, it will list the account as [email protected] This means is it going out to the inernet server and coming back into our network. When it is working right is just shows the users first and last name, underlined. The only way I have found to fix this is to remove and add the user repeatedly until it works correctly. Anyone have any suggestions!?

I don't know if this is the correct forum to ask this, but I will take a shot. When I started my new job last year as a teacher, I also took over the IT department. The former guy who ran it was an Idiot (He is no longer employed for that reason) For whatever reason, he thought it would be a good idea to put Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2000 box running as a GC/DC. We also have another box that is running Windows 2000 (GC/DC). About 6 months ago, I upgraded Exchange2000 to Exchange 2003., this upgrade went pretty seemlessly. Now however, I face a dilemma. I have no idea how to go abotu doing this.

Microsoft has been no help, I have searched far and wide for a solution, but to no aval....

So now I am asking here: What is the correct process for upgrading a windows 2K domain to a 2K3 domain?

Our Layout:

Machine #1: HP/Compaq Server, Windows 2000 SP4 AD(DC/GC), Duel 2.4GHz Xeon, 2GB of Ram, blah blah

Machine #2: HP/Compaq Server, Windows 2000 SP4 AD (GC/DC), Exchange 2003 w/ SP2

Other machines are running Windows 2003 (Member Servers) and OS X Server (10.4)

Is there a specific method to this? Or can I just do a str8 upgrade to both boxes?

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Anthony

Answer:Windows 2000 Server to 2003 Server Upgrade w/ Exchange

Actually, I always find it a good thing to have two GC servers, so that if one goes down, people can still login. The only time it causes load problems is when there are scads of directory objects. As for an upgrade, I hate them, but they do occasionally work. 2003 is actually quite good at upgrading, Microsoft wanted to make this product accessible for everyone who was still running NT4, so the migration tools are much better than in 2k.

Worse comes to worse, make sure you have triple backups, a full weekend, pop the cd in and go.

I am going to be upgrading a Server 2003 domain and Exchange server 2003 to Server 2008 and Exchange server 2010. We have one main DC and one backup DC along with another Server 2003 machine running Exchange.

Can anyone point me to some good how-to's or instructions for doing this? This is a small organization, about 40-50 clients total.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:How to migrate Server/Exchange 2003 to Server 2008

I'm in the same boat at work. I have about 120 clients and I'm taking the approach of building of building a new AD domain and installing exchange as a new organization in the new domain. From there I plan on exporting the mailboxes and importing them to the new exchange server. At this point I haven't decided how I'm going to export the mailboxes, probably have to exmerge the mail store to PST's or use Powershell if I can extract the old mail store from the new Exchange server.

Here is the scoop.

Small Business - 7 employees and about 15 computers

Current Server -- runs Windows XP Pro. Serves primarily as data storage. The only programs that physically are installed on the server are

Windows XP Pro
QuickBooks Database Manager
Tax Software Database Manager
Acronis True Image for Backups
That's it.
We are set up in a peer to peer 10/100 Wired Network using a Workgroup setup. All computers are set to a specific IP address.

We use Cisco POE Networking equipment including a UC500 for the main component (it's phone system, network switch, fax receiver etc).

The reason I ask if we should change is we are going as paperless as possible and the UC500 will handle our fax situation for us but HAS to use exchange server to do so.

I tried ONCE to install and configure Small Business Server and was never able to get to run correctly (ie all the systems to see and access the server) and I have never used Exchange Server.

#1- SBS would be great. However if you are planning to ever grow over 50 users in the next couple years, just spend the money and time NOW (if you can) and just go Standard. Getting away from SBS is a PITA.

#2- SBS is pretty easy. You use wizards on the whole thing. Install the OS, do step by step configurations, etc. I'd focus on getting your domain working first, then after it's running getting Exchange going.

#3- SBS includes Exchange. It's an all-inclusive system designed for small businesses.

#4- Might have more luck asking around in Networking forum, but maybe some of them would come in here and see this question as well. I know many of them pretty much charge flat rates for SBS installs.
All that said though, you're going to want to run a server OS on something better than workstation hardware. You need to be looking at buying some server hardware.

I was wondering how i should go about putting 2k on this here 98 box. Should i do a deltree ( i forgot the syntax lol) or, should i format the hd? That syntax i know lol.

Answer:Putting 2K server on a 98 box

If you are going to wipe out 98 and don't care about any data on the machine, then just let the Windows 2000 setup format it for you. It has its own built in partitioning and formatting routine.

Here is a good tutorial for installing Windows 2000. It also has them for other versions of Windows.

Hi I have a server running XP 2003 server. My boss just asked me to forward all the email from one exchange account to another. the employee quit so he wants all thier mail to go to someone else in the exchange. so instead of going to [email protected] it would go to [email protected] even though it was sent to [email protected], and then she could read it.

I don't know where to go in 2003 and how to forward the account. can anyone give me an idea of how to do this? It is nothing elaborate. we only have 25 people and jsut one sever and one exchange. it is whatever MS exchange is in windows server 2003. nothing fancy.

Answer:Exchange server (xp server 2003) question

Go into the administrative tools -> Active directory Users -> The User-> Specific User->Properties->Exchange General Tab-> Delivery Options button-> Under Forwarding you have option Forward to, then use the email address where you want to forward the emails, and there is also option under modify, That will allow you to get email on her old address and forward also to new address (check it)

Let me know if than makes sense and thats what you wanted.

Hello everyone:

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this or not but I thought I would try.

We have an Exchange server running Windows Server 2000 and we Blackberry Enterprise Server running on a seperate server. We are getting ready to upgrade our Exchange server to Windows Server 2003 and have run into a snag with a test user we created. We created the new account on our old server and then moved the users mailbox to the new exchange server. When we did that the BES recognizes that the user has moved servers but it doesn't send or recieve messages to the handheld.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Hi All,
Im thinking about setting up a media server on my network
something like the Buffalo Terastation.
I would like to put all my movies and music etc
on the media server.
What is the best way to get movies from my dvd's onto
the hard drive ?
Please excuse my ignorance on this as ive never looked into
getting dvd movies onto a pc.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Answer:Putting files onto media server

I've always loved DVD Decrypter as a means of extracting a DVD to hard drive. This creates an ISO file that is an exact copy of the disc's contents. Of course, you would need a media player that will process this filetype.

To this end, I would recommend VLC Media Player. This player has just about every codec you could ever need built in. This baby has played every video file I've ever come across. No hassle. Plus, its lightweight!

Of course, you might not want the WHOLE image on your hard drive. This takes up ALOT of space. (DVD images are typically 3-8GB). Fortunately, you can use DVDShrink to compress and re-author the disc. With this, you can compress the disc to fit on CD (or better), strip menus, special features, alternate languages, etc. This saves alot of room.

as stated, I installed FD5 on a motherboard that works 'good enough' once the HD i needed came in from a guy on the forums. I now have the motherboard for it that I ordered off ebay. Is it going to be all or none like reinstalling a board in prefab machines with XP?

FD5 is pretty good at picking up drivers and the board going in the system is a little older than the current one(which fedora found all of the drivers for), will it do this before the OS starts or is this going to be an issue?

Does putting the .pst on a mapped drive on my file server sound like a good idea? If not, does anyone have any suggestions for keeping them synched?

Suddenly a friend and I are having trouble receiving emails from each other. She uses a different service (Road Runner) than I do (Yahoo). Besides Yahoo, I have a Gmail and RR account, so I did an experiment - I sent a test message to each account from each other account. The results were that my RR sent messages were received by both Yahoo and GM. Of the two messages sent from Yahoo, GM received, but RR did not. Of the two messages sent from GM, Yahoo received, but RR did not. Maybe a flow chart would help seeing what happened (below - green are completed transmissions - pink didn't go through).

Now I'm confused - her messages from RR are not received by my Yahoo, but my RR message was and I cannot receive her RR messages in my Yahoo.
Any idea what's going on?

Answer:Cannot exchange emails with friend

Both should use another email service.....not RR.  Obviously, from your tests, that is a solution. Why RR is not receiving can best be
answered at their forum. Maybe it is just a temporary problem.

Right now, through the Exchange management on the user's account, I can set it up to basically CC another user on every single email. Great for when the user is on vacation.

I do that by setting the Forwarding address in Exchange General- Delivery Options.

My question is there anyway the users can do that themselves, or even a third-part tool?
Outlook Rules would be too hard (and the users would not do it correctly) for the end-user.
Just looking for something they can set their own forwards with.

Answer:Exchange. Have Outlook FW all emails?

As far as i know, on the outlook side it would have to be a rule setup by the users. They really are not that hard to setup, if you can read

I'm a neophyte with exchange

I'm hosting web sites and doing the DNS for the sites. I now have Backoffice and exchange 2k installed. The manual I purchased is laborsome and confusing.

Can someone tell me if it is possible for me to do the following.

I'm hosting a web (i.e. and running the DNS for the site.
I wish to set up [email protected] but not manage a mailbox on my server. I wish to route the incoming emails addressed to [email protected] to for example [email protected]

I think this should be possible. Can someone help??
or tell me if it isn't.

Answer:exchange 2K and routing emails

It's been a while since I've done anything with exchange but I think this can be done by going to the User's properties in Active Directory Users and computers, then going to the advanced delivery options and making the change there.

Hi All,

I have a mailbox full of a hell of alot of email, which should of been sent to users. However because the email addresses wernt set up right the emails went into the catch all.

Is there a way of taking these emails and putting them back into Exchange to be routed to the users? I cant think how to do it that way.

Answer:Import Emails in exchange

well sort of...

I'd log into exchange as that catch all account (administrator in most cases). Sort the mail by recipient , then create .pst files for each recipient , move the appropriate messages into each .pst file then manually import contents of each .pst file into the proper exchange accounts.

it's manual work, but unless you're talking about 1000 users it's not bad, I did it once for about 160 and was done in about 4 hours (with 80GB worth of exchange database). although I did it during a migration that did not go se well, lol

Answer:Problem sending emails to aol in Exchange.

I too have an issue with AOL. Specifically their error is telling me that they won't accept email from my domain because reverse DNS isn't set up to their liking. They require IP mapped to the domain name and do not accept entries.

The way I see it if AOL is my only problem sending email, then it is their problem and not mine. I will not change the way my mail is sent out to appease AOL. Never ever.... ever

I've been having problems with staff members complaining that they couldn't flag on the Exchange 2003 public folders.

At first i thought it was an IE8 issue, so i downgraded them to IE7.
They could flag on their regular inboxes but still not on their public folders.

So the problem is that our staff when operating from home needs badly to flag emails that they see in their public folders, and they are not able to.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a workaround?

They are using OWA to access the public folders from our server.

Hello, at my job we have Microsoft exchange. Prior to this we used a webmail serivice. When we originally switched over, I had two sections with inbox, sent, etc. One was the old one with all of my old emails, and the other (on top) was the new exchange inbox.

I recently switched computers and copied all of my user data but for some reason, outlook only shows the exchange inbox and not my old one (which has neccessary emails). Why would this happen? When I log into the old webmail that housed these emails and nothing is there. It was there last week prior to switching computers.

I am using windows 7 pro, office 13 outlook exchange.

Answer:Exchange didn't copy my old emails?

Sorry if that is confusing. I guess what I want to know is, where did my old emails go prior to switching to exchange? They were in there before switching computers, so I am not sure why they would have disappeared!

I have an SBS 2003 server with Symantec Mail Security and one of our users is missing some emails from last week. They do not show up in the user's Deleted Items folder (in outlook or outlook web access), nor in the Recover Deleted Items. Item/mailbox retention is set to the default of 30 days.

Missing emails include both sent and received items. I can see the emails being sent/received in the SMTP log based on the email addresses and timestamps.

I don't know if the user is trying to delete things on purpose... I rebooted the server this morning, no change. The mailbox is about 4GB, connecting via Outlook 2007 on a Windows Vista Pro machine and also through webmail at times.

Is there anywhere else I can look?

I have an exchange 2000 server set up and a user says they tried to BCC some 600+ members of a committee he is on. I don't know of any limits on the server, but it seems no one got the email. Can anyone point me to where exactly I should be checking for a sending limit? He had people in the TO and CC fields and they got the email. So it just seems to have been something with this giant BCC list.

He says he checked twice to make sure he had the addresses correct, semicolon separated and such. He has gotten on bounce backs so I am not sure what might have happened.

Answer:Exchange and limit # emails sending?

Open the Exchange System Manager and navigate to Servers>>Server Name>>Protocols>>SMTP>>Virtual SMTP Server and select properties. Go to the messagges tab and there you can set a max recipient limit.

Also check the user properties for that user in the AD and go to Exchange General tab and Delivery Options. Can also set on a per user basis in there.

I have 2k3 exchange on a SBS that can send and recieve email just fine. the only problem is that SOME people are unable to reply back to our company.

The main Person I'm having issues with is a Gmail account. If the Gmail user emails [email protected] the email comes in just fine. if [email protected] emails [email protected] it shows up in the gmail account just fine. However if the Gmail account replies to that message from [email protected] the Gmail recieves an unable to send message(usually one to two days later).

I have tested sending and replying from my personal gmail account and it works fine. the gmail user has no other issues with anyone else and never had this problem before we Changed Servers. (we used to be on a Full Exchange Sytem, changed servers to a SBS Server with exchange).

So far any searches have turned up nothing. and I dont' know where to look. Any Ideas are Greatly appreciated. Thanks

Can someone help me?
Let me give you some back ground. I work for a small Charity, I'm the Administrator.
We've just upgraded our email system to Exchange 2000, and this is the first time I've ever used it. We also bought a Win Server (2000) too.

I've just found out that I can possibly send and receive our work emails through the WEB - which will be very handy !!

I've just done this in Internet Explorer, and I like what I see:
(username and password)
What I'm asking is, does anyone know where I can see a step-by-step guide on how to set this up on the internet. - AND, just so you know I am a very quick learner, with good knowledge and full understanding of computers and the internet thingy ;-)

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Exchange 2000 - Work Emails from the Web

you need to set up a router to map the external IP (internet IP) to the server ( like NAT), if you could you can have or buy a domain name for the server so the users are easy to remember the address. That should lead you to expose your server on the internet.

Hi All,

I've got a computer that runs outlook 2003 for the mail client. It connects to a Exchange server.

My understanding is that a copy of the mail should be located on the Exchange Server but i'm a little confused now. I noticed that when i go to the Email accounts settings, i have an option of my mail going to an Offline Storage (which is ok as i have turned this feature on). I also noticed that right down the bottom there is some text indicating where the mail is delivered to. This text indicates that the location is C:\documents .....etc. Because it is being saved to c:\documents ... etc, does this mean that there is NO copy of my mail on the Exchange server? If not, if i had a computer change in the future, i should simply be able to just reconfigure my oultook to point to the same exchange server and it should pull down all my mail?

Any help would be great. thanks so much in advance.

We have recently upgraded from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. I have always had clip art in my signature file for my email.

Now when I send an email the recipients can see the clipart but in addition there are a few wmz files attached which cannot be open. If you double click them, it lauches windows media player but then gives an error that the skin is invald.

If I forward that email from the recipient, more files get created, now gif files are attached as well. They can be opened and are the same clipart files which are in the email signature. The pictures continue to be displayed in the email with no problem.

If I email myself, no attachement files are created.

This did not happen with the 5.5 exchange server. I was just wondering if it's a setting or something that can be configured to stop this. It's causing confusion with recipients when they think they are supposed to be able to open the attachments.

Thank you

I have an exchange server (2003) set up. My firewall forward all port 25 traffic to the exchange server. My ISP has set up an MX record to forward all mail to the public ip of my exchange server. My firewall uses NAT to translate the public ip to its private address.

I can send email to anyone, but cannot receive email from external domains (ie yahoo or gmail or anyone but my my exchange users).

I've done nslookups and they all show an MX record pointing to the correct public IP of my server.

By the way, I can telnet the private ip from the lan, but not the public.

Answer:Exchange can't receive external emails

From the lan, it is doubtfull that you would be able to telnet to the public address. You will need to try connecting to the address from outside of your network. Try this and see how it goes.

Hey there,

The only thing I love more than working on sunday is the fact that my exchange server sends all of it's mail out from the wrong NIC.

Here's the deal:
Exchange 2000 running on Windows 2000
internal nic: 1gbps, 10.0.223.x
external-ish nic: 100mbps, 10.0.222.x (static nat'd to a public ip)

The thing is...most of my mail is leaving the exchange server through the 10.0.223 interface instead of the 10.0.222 int.

Is is choosing the 223 nic, because of it's capacity or something?
Well either way, is there a way of directing the email through the correct nic?

fyi~This is causing some emails to not be delivered to places that check the header/sent-from ip to the registered ip for the email server...and if they don't match, the mail gets dropped.

Thank ye's...

Hey All,

I am working on a server and recently two of their mail accounts have began not sending out email. When I first looked into the outbound box, the mail I sent out is still pending. It usually takes anywhere from 1 minute to several hours to for it (Argosoft Outbox) to be delivered. Also, when I send out a email to that particular a particular address, it will just sit there.

I have also done scans with AVG 8.0 and found that it had I-Worm/Bagz.D infection. I quickly quarantined that infection as to not allow to infect other files on the pc / server. I have also done a Hijack This Scan, please can someone look at this and tell some about what I am making out.

We use a ticketing application called Helpspot. A quick rundown is that is scrubs our support inbox, automatically creates tickets from those emails, etc. The application sends out emails using one of our exchange servers. The problem that I THINK I'm having is that when the email goes out, it's automatically appending '94 - Operations Supprt' to the From section of the emails. This is the name associated with the email address that is being used to send emails from.

Here are some of the email settings:
Notice 'Account Name'. That should be appending whoever is assigned the ticket in the From section with 'Operations Support'. I have no doubt that it is probably doing it, but I'm wondering if that is getting overwritten when it passes through our exchange server.

Here's what everyone else sees when they recieve an email. It should say 'Operations Support (Tim)' in the From section:

Hello folks. I need your help in a small thing I want to setup. I searched a little but I'm not competent in this area and doesn't have much background in this topic.

Say I have a small workgroup network of 10 PC's. Each PC is for a section in one company and they want to exchange emails via the use of an email software that is installed in each computer. This system is to be used to pass information or to give orders to lower-level sections(Like for example the manager sending a command to his deputy). The messages should stay there after being opened and an alert of course should come up to let the user know there is a new message for him. NOW, I know that Outlook does all this nicely but I want to use another software. Outlook is already there and being used as an email client with remote locations.

Is there a simple(Maybe free?) program to do this? Can it be done in a workgroup setup? Or do I have to have Client/server setup? If in workgroup, where will data(messages) be stored? Can one PC made to be a central machine where one storage place is used to hold the program data? Can I have more that one email software in one pc? Can a PC be part of a domain and at the same type be a member of a workgroup network?

One thing I want to accomplish is making orders/commands + instructions + responsibilities documented so that no body can say I didn't know or I didn't hear....etc, provided that he opened the message in question in his pc.

I have one xp pro client running outlook 2003 sp2 with a roaming profile who occasionally gets mail stuck in her outbox.
I have read the fix to create a new pst file etc but I do not use pst files all emails are stored on the server and are using cashed exchange mode.
If I create a pst file then point all mail to go to there, exit then go back in and point to the mailbox again should this fix the problem ?
I have previously uninstalled/reinstalled outlook which has not solved the problem.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7 Pro #32. It was originally a home-only PC but it now gets used at work on a domain. I am running Outlook 2007 originally just for POP3 private email. At work we have Microsoft Exchange Server and Outlook now picks up both sets of email and they both seem to run OK side by side within the same version of Outlook. The issue I have is that the POP3 emails are private and Exchange emails are work. This arrangement seemed fine and I assumed they would remain separate. That is until I setup my new smartphone to download Exchange (work) emails. This worked fine and downloaded work (Exchange) emails but it also downloaded my private POP3 emails which leads me to think that actually ALL my emails are now sat on the work server. This can't be allowed to happen.

Would really appreciate some input on whether this assumption is correct. If it is, is there a way to separate them out in the same version of Outlook and also where on the server will copies of my private be kept as I'd like to remove them?

Answer:Outlook working with Exchange and POP3 emails

Perhaps this will help: Not all email is created equal: an introduction to POP3, IMAP4 and MAPI | Blog (More links are at the bottom of that page.)

Just because you change the method of access doesn't change the location of emails which are on the server of the email service providers (the server names on the account tab of the properties for each email account). If you have been keeping work and personal email separate, they were separate because the email service providers are different. For example, it's possibe for someone to have 10 separate email accounts with 10 different email service providers located in 10 different states or countries. That person would then install 10 accounts in their one Outlook program, or if they have 2 devices, then install the accounts on either or both devices. Just be careful to use the appropriate type of service (pop3, smtp, imap, or mapi) depending on the features you want for each account.

My problem is that If I set my hotmail up with Pop3 I have to do things twice. If I set up hotmail with exchange I have to go into my hotmail, Google apps and Iphone to check and delete. If I only have my Website/host email set up on my Iphone I receive all the emails, but I cannot send from my hotmail account. I hope this makes sense and wondered if anyone had some ideas. Thanks.

I am in a large corporate environment with about 300 computers. We have an annoying little problem! Anytime anyone goes to a different computer, or gets a new machine, a new outlook profile for our exchange server has to be created. This can be annoying and quite a strain on us in the IT department to go an setup over and over again. It seems like there should be a script to automatcally generate outlook exchange profiles if they do not exist. A tutorial is out of the question, the users here are real idiots!

We are in a active directory environment so setting up login scripts would not be tough to implement.

Answer:Automatically Setup Exchange Emails Settings?

I take it that you are NOT using roaming profiles? If you turn on Roaming Profiles, then if someone already has a profile setup, it will follow them to any PC that they log onto.

As far as for new users, there is an option that I know of but only if you have Office installed via Group Policy.

I'm the youngest in a very small company, so I am gifted the task of server management, whenever the server is on the fritz.

Here is the latest. The c drive is almost completely full, and I am trying to gain some space by getting everyone to archive their 6 month old emails to their machines. So far we have archived about 500 mbs of emails, but the server's c drive still shows the same amount of remaining space. Is there some sort of lag from when the archive happens to when the server will completely delete the file. Thanks

Answer:Need help with Windows 2k server & exchange server

What version of Exchange are you using 5.5, 2000 etc...

if its 5.5, exchange does not resize the priv.edb and pub.edb whenever you delete or removed data from the users mailbox. You need to defrag the DB using a util called eseutil.exe

Also some other things. Is the pagefile on the C: drive if so move it to another. How about any backup's from service pack's that have been installed.

Hi Guys,

having an issue that some of the users on our domain have been receiving emails sent from external senders but they appear as having been sent from our domain - "on behalf" of the external users address.

i.e. our domain is say -
some users are receiving email from say [email protected] however, the message they receive appears to come from [email protected] - on behalf of [email protected]

I am quite confused as to how this is happening since "[email protected]" is not a user on our exchange, nor is the email applied anywhere.
Even if they were using SMTP through the exchange server somehow - our exchange only allows mail to be sent from certain IP addresses, and only allows relay from certain IP's.

Does anyone know how or why this kind of thing is happening and how to put a stop to it?

I have tried searching the net for an explanation but can't seem to find something similar.

thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Solved: Exchange 2010 - Receiving emails from own domain?

Not even been up long and i have found out what was causing this.

Our externally hosted website (which had access to our exchange) had been setup to use SMTP to send email from the contact form on the site.
All these emails were coming from there through our exchange and using randomly generated email addresses from our own domain to send these emails.

We have now updated this so it uses a generic email address, so not to cause anymore confusion of receiving emails from random addresses which look like they are on our domain.

I am looking to create a message journal mailbox of everything on the exchange 2007 server. Everything that goes in or out goes into this dump. Does exchange de-dupe stuff in this archival box?

I'm trying to decide if I want to use Exchange 2007 journaling or buy something like the Barracuda Email Archiver (~$6000).

Any thoughts on the de-dupe issue?

Any thoughts on journaling vs. email archiving appliance?

Answer:Does exchange dedupe emails? or Email Archival Techniques

Why don't you just make it so users can't delete items? Then move them to an archive server after xx amount of days?

Or use a backup solution that will hold the data for however long you need. Nothing can replace a good exchange recovery tool

I have public folders setup in Exchange and an e-mail address is auto-generated for that folder. Is there a way to make it so an address is manually created instead of it being auto-generated? I don't have access to Exchange itself, I am just the admin of the public folder.

Answer:Exchange and auto generating emails for public folders

I don't think so, creating email aliases (which also deals with routing them) is something you'd need more permissions for than that.

hi just wondering but when you do a trace on an ip address will it show you where the exchange is???

it it does then im about 10-12 km away from my exchange. I checked my isp'site and according to them my exchange should be around 2km away

Answer:Solved: slow internet (think im connected to the wrong exchange)

You have to chase that down with the ISP, there's no Internet tool that will provide that sort of granularity.

Hi Expert

My client has got this domain ‘’ hosted with the below hosting provider
Nameserver1 :
Nameserver2 :
And exchange server 2003 for the mails
Everything was working fine.

Today he got a new website called and hosted with a new hosting provider which is :
And the Nameservers were changed from to And from to
Since does not register a domain name that ends with .au, therefore -not sure(guessing)- the guy who designed the new website registered the domain name ‘’ as a new domain and has pointed the old domain ‘’ to ‘’ via Nameserver1 and Nameserver2 as explained above.
In the web browser if you type in : or
Outcome same website

Now my client has an issue the mail does not work.
On the Exchange server 2003 ‘Forward Lookup Zone’ I had changed 4 ‘records’ (ftp Host(A), list Host(A), list Mail Exchanger (MX),www Host(A)) from pointing to the old ip address that was belong to (,,,,,not real) to the new ip address that is associated with (,,,,,not real)
But still emails does not work.
What do you think I have missed ?

We are having a little problem with Exchange Server 2000 on Windows Server 2000 where the sotre is nearing the 16GB limit. We have got all users to delete all unwanted emails, and even copied some to PST files. We then set a mailbox limit to 100mb per person. If you go through the list of mailboxes, and add everyone up, it comes to around 10GB, however, the size of the priv.edb is still nearing 16GB. We have also run both an online and offline defrag on the store, but it is still near 16GB. Do we have to run the cleanup agent to remove the emails yet again? If so, can this be one in working hours? Also, if we run the cleanup agent on the mailboxes, will we then have to do another offline defrag?

Thanks a lot,

Since upgrading to 15007 I can't print text for Exchange emails, pages are missing all text
If I view email via Outlook Web Access then text will print OK (as do webpages etc)
The printer test page is the same (in that no text is printed, just the graphic content that makes up the page)
I have uninstalled all Canon software and repeated installation/setup but to no avail
Before I look to rollback to 15002 does anyone have any other ideas?
Rollback will be interesting as I have already removed the old install (any ideas for easily getting back to 15002 would be welcome!)

Answer:Can't print text for Exchange emails with 15007 & Canon TS8050

Anyone got any ideas?

When we send an email using Outlook 2007 through Microsoft Exchange, to someone using an Ipad the pdf attachment appears in the body of the email instead of as an attachment that can be opened separately. I need to know how to make the pdf attachment appear separately. The Ipad user receives other emails with pdf attachments as attachments not in the body of the email so it doesn't appear to be his settings. Could it be one of my settings in Exchange?

I just found my receipt for my laptop and I purchased it on Sept. 25, 2011. Yet, Dell is saying my laptop is out of warranty as of June 20th. I thought it was a year from the purchase date? Can someone help me please?

Answer:Given Wrong Warranty Date

If the system was purchased at retail, you must register it.
If it was purchased from an individual - EBay, etc., - contact the seller.

Ok here's the deal.

A friend's clock kept getting out of synch and was causing problems since many of her programs rely on the date (accounting). Anyhow, obviously the first thought was that the battery on the mobo was dead/dying and needed to be replaced. After doing that I left assuming everything would be copacetic.

But no. That wasn't the problem. I'm going to run a check for viruses but I have a feeling that's not it. Any other suggestions?

I checked my phone for the time, it was saying the right time but was saying the wrong date. I thaught to change the date and time so they correspond with each other but the time and date just wont budge.

Answer:Why is the date and time wrong?

Have you checked Settings/Region to ensure the Country/Region is correct, and Settings/Date+Time to make sure that Set Automatically is on? That should get time and date from your carrier network.

I mentioned this in another post but now I've started a separate one.In WinXP, on the main Control Center window the version date is in the American format MM DD YYYY but in Vista it is correct, i.e. DD MM YYYY. I looked at a friend's Win98 version and that is also correct.Does anyone else have this or know why it is like this?

Answer:AVG 7.5 has date format wrong

Right click task bar and select adjust time, time zone.
