Outlook 2000: "An error occurred registering the form in the OLE registry."

Question: Outlook 2000: "An error occurred registering the form in the OLE registry."

I have a user that cannot display Outlook forms.
She gets the following Outlook error: "The form you
selected could not be displayed. An error occurred
registering the form in the OLE registry."

All machines are running on Windows 2000 with MS
Office 2000/SR-1. The problem seems to be machinebased. You take the user to another machine and there is
no problem. Also when another user log's in, this user gets no error. I've looked in many newsgroups but until now, I didn't find an answer...

I would appreciate any help on this.

Preferred Solution: Outlook 2000: "An error occurred registering the form in the OLE registry."

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I need help with this Diskette issue please. "Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure"
I've had this problem a few times in a couple of years and I have been able to fix the error by pressing F2 and going to the SETUP. And I've done this with no issues. But this time I thought I fixed it but now I get this new error: "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". After I press Ctrl+Alt+Del it takes me back to the same error massage "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". Need help please. This is a Dell Desktop, Windows XP.
Thank you.

I have an IBM thinkpad (a friend of mine) that I'm trying to see what's wrong with it.  Whenever you start it up, it runs through the diagnostic tests and eventually provides the message listed in my subject.  I attempted to press f12 during one of the reboots since i saw something on here from someone else that had luck but didn't really see anything i felt comfortable about changing.  After i exited, it began rebooting and displayed the error "No operating system found".  I then turned the power off and began receiving the same message as i originally got "a disk read error occurred".  Before i received the computer, my friend was told the hard drive was shot and there was no hope in retrieving any files.  Is this true?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,Frank

HI,

My Outlook 2000 Gets "Mail delivery error" every so often, then you must close outlook, reopen, and then it works. THis happens about once a day. I've loaded the office updates to no avail. I've also uninistalled, and reinstalled ms office, and ran regclean a couple times in between, but still I have this problem. I've also verified I have no firewalls running, and my anti-virus version is Symantec Corporate edition 8.0. My o/s is WinXP Pro, sp2. We are not using an exchange server, just pop/internet mail.

Any thoughts as to how I can correct this?

THANKS!!!

I have a RemoteApp server setup (Windows 2012 R2) with SSO enabled. This RemoteApp server is for internal use only. I have no issues with any of my clients running Windows 7 or above. On Windows XP however, I can only connect to the RemoteApp session once
and then I get the error An authentication error has occurred (Code: 0xc00002fd). If I reboot the PC, it will again work once and then get the error.
The other thing we discovered is that when you first close the RemoteApp session, the mtsc.exe process remains active for 30 seconds or so. As long as that is active, I can re-enter the RemoteApp session multiple times. The moment I kill that process, I
get the error and must reboot.
I'm pretty sure something is being cached on the client side, but every lead I have found has not resulted in a resolution.
Anyone have any ideas? (Btw, "get off of XP" is not an option at this time. lol)
Any assistance would be great.

Hi, Can anyone help me??
I have had an issue with my laptop lately and a result of the problems seemed to make Office unuseable. This seems to have semi resolved itself. However, I am still unable to use outlook.
I can open the application but when I go to 'Tools' 'E-mail account' I get eh following error message.. "The operation failed due to a registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook. If the problem persists, please reinstall"

I am unable to reinstall as the apps was pre-installed on my laptop when I bought it.

Hello,
I have a Dell Latitude E7450 with Windows 10. I am unable to get to the login screen as the following error message comes up "A disk read error occurred Pres Ctl+Alt+Del to restart" I do this and get the same error message each time. I did hold F12 so I can get to the boot options. I ran the diagnostics and it completed with no issues found. "All tests passed"
Any ideas of how I can fix this issue?
Boot mode is set to Legacy. Should I change it to Secure Boot?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer:Latitude E7450 - Error message "A disk read error occurred"

Run the extended - not just quick - diagnostic on the hard drive (F12 at powerup).
No, you cannot change to UEFI/Secure Boot without a complete reload of the operating system.

My computer has recently started giving me an error message that says "A disk read error occurred. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart." during startup.

The first time this came up I took it into the repair shop the morning after. They turned the computer on, it started normally, and after keeping it overnight they returned it to me saying that they could find nothing wrong with it.

It worked normally for about 2 days after that and then when I was using it the system suddenly became unresponsive. I was forced to turn it off via the button on the front of my tower, and when I turned it back on the disk read error message came back up.
The next morning when I turned it on it was fine.

This process of it becoming unresponsive, giving me the error, and being fine by the next morning continued for a couple of days until now when it only shows me the error.

Help?

Answer:"A disk read error occurred. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart."

Do you have backups? First thing I would suspect is the hard drive is dying, or at the very least, some important boot sector info is going bad. Try a utility boot disk of any variety like Parted Magic Live CD or make a UBCD4Win CD if you have access to a windows XP disc or image, or use a Linux LiveCD, to see if you can get access to the contents of the drive if need be. Or alternately, pull the drive and attach it as a secondary data drive to another system and see if its readable.

Based on the results of your attempts at access, further advice can be given as to what to do about the drive if that indeed turns out to be the problem.

Hi, I've repeatedly attempted this, but always get

An error occurred during setup. Restart your computer, then run setup again.

This is an all too typical message you can find associated with many Epson products.

I've tried:
Clean boot
Safe mode (install enabled)
Using an Epson removal tool I finally obtained after my 5th chat with Epson.
An Epson fix deleting temp folder and looking for setup.exe that never appeared.
On my 4th chat I was advised to consult Microsoft.
Manually removing all Epson folders and registry entries I can find.
Disabling firewall and AV

The same CD installed ok on my 6 year-old laptop (both run Windows x64).

I've found a couple of other fixes found by someone looking at the log file.
I've run SFC /Scannow - ok

At best, the scanner is recognised as being connected when plugged in, and appears with a yellow trangle under 'Other Devices' in Device Manager

Any ideas welcome - I'd like to use my new scanner
Thanks

Answer:Epson V550 driver installation "An error occurred during setup"

Hi, I've found a solution, albeit a tad obscure. Short story:
1. Install the driver normally, noting it fails, and the device is recognised when plugged in and appears in Device Manager under 'Other devices' with a yellow triangle.
2. There right click the device, update driver and browse to the CD used to install the driver initially, and to the driver folder.
Let the update run.

The scanner should now be installed.

From:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...?page=2&auth=1

which offers another approach too.

There are quite a few reports of Epson driver installations (various devices) failing with this message. Epson chat eventually referred me to Microsoft.... saying the original message was a Windows error.

I first used gparted to make a second partition next to my original XP partition. I installed windows 2008 server only to decide I didn't need it and removed that partition and resized the first back to take up the entire drive.

The problem is, if I run fixmbr and fixboot under the XP repair console to get rid of the boot manager from Vista/2008, i get "a disk read error occurred". HOWEVER, if I do bootrec /fixmbr and /fixboot using repair console on the 2008 disk, I get both entries for XP and 2008, but the one for XP DOES WORK (obviously the 2008 one does not since the partition is gone).

I want to revert back to the original boot loader since I only have one OS. What is going on here? fixboot and fixmbr on XP recovery console doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas? Thanks.

So yesterday, my computer was in sleep mode, working fine. I was vacuuming my room and I blew a circuit, no biggie, happens all the time, so I turn off the vacuum and lights, went down to the fuse box, and flipped the switch back. I haven't tried to use my computer until I finished vacuuming. Once I finished, I sat down at my computer and turn it on.
Now normally, when I turn the computer on, it shows the motherboard screen, then goes to a black screen with white text which says "Verifying DMI Pool Data ............" at the bottom and then it goes to the windows start up screen. This time, after being stuck on the black and white screen for a while, under the "Verifying DMI Pool Data ............" It says "A disk read error occurred", "Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart". I though that was strange, so I did what it said, Ctrl+Alt+Delete and it restarted. Same message. I tried repeating this several times, nothing new is happening. I use the power button on my computer and shut it off, then turn it back on again. A different black and white screen showed up with an error message and said to press enter to continue. I pressed enter, nothing happens, so I shut off the computer and turn it back on.
Now it shows me the normal windows crash screen, where you can choose to start windows in safe mode or start it normally. I, not knowing what safe mode even meant, picked safe mode. Safe mode loads up, no issues that I could see, but I noticed t... Read more

This has been happening more often frequently, but if I restart enough my computer ends up working fine. This can't be good for my system and I can't afford to lose this.

"A disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart"That's the message I get every time I try to turn on my computer. Or, at least it's the one that happens every time I turn it on after it's been off for a while (ie. in the morning). It seems the only thing I can do is to restart it until Windows loads, which it always does eventually. It can take a couple of tries, or it can take 8. I just don't understand what it is. I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, as well as put in a new hard-drive, (Samsung SpinPoint F2 EG SATA2 1.5TB). The error has occurred ever since. On three separate occasions I've thought I might have fixed it, since after all three the next time it loaded on the first try (though that might just be because the next time I booted my computer was on the same day, after I had rebooted my computer to fix the very problem). The first time I figured it might just be a physical configuration issue. I unplugged my DVD drive and my old ATA hard-drive (which is completely empty at this point anyway), and rechecked the cables on my new 1.5TB and my old 500GB SATA (where my Windows 7 partition is). I've since plugged both of those back in. The second time I did some googling, and it seemed it might have to do with the BIOS. Now, I've never updated the BIOS in the two and a half years since I got a new mainboard (partly because I don't have a floppy drive anymore). I used MSI's in-windows BIOS flash s... Read more

Answer:"A disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart"

I think if you had a configuration error, it would be more consistent.Since your problem only occurs on startup when the computer has been cold and powered down for a while, it sounds more like a thermal issue. For example, a hairline crack on the motherboard might make contact after the MB has warmed up and the traces have expanded a little to bridge the gap.Similarly, such erratic behavior can come from poorly seated or dirty edge connectors on the memory or card edge connectors on expansion cards. Also from cable jacks not properly seated, or cables separating from their plugs. So sometimes you can get things running with some cleaning and reseating things.Others may have other ideas for you, but this gives you something to do while you wait...

CHKDSK, run either by scheduled during restart, or in Safe Mode Command Line, or from a separate USB boot disk, all show the exact same allegedly "fixed" errors over and over again. They never actually get fixed!

Also, on 4 out of 7 different disk drives -- including two Samsung SSDs which "SSD Life Pro" says are in excellent condition and will last at least 8 more years -- keep reporting an error I've never seen before:

Code:
An unspecified error occurred (766f6c756d652e63 461).
Fortunately, the 64-bit Windows 7 Pro boot disk never shows an error, but I get these repeated and allegedly "fixed" CHKDSK errors, for example, when I'm trying to clone my system partition to any of a few different disk drives and before the cloning can complete I get one or more CHKDSK errors - even though there are no CHKDSK errors from the source disk/partition!

I've checked and re-checked for rootkits and other malware using MBAM and Avira Pro, and no problems are ever reported. I've exhaustively checked the RAM using MemTest86 v7.01 for 20 passes each over two days, and again, no problems are reported.

These inexplicable errors are driving me nuts! And it's seems extremely unlikely that these are any sort of common problems, so I need some creative thinking, please. I thought maybe a PSU problem, but it's a 2-3 year old Corsair 850 and I'm not using anywhere near 850 watts. Also, the mobo and disk temps are typical and even on the low side a b... Read more

I'm lost. Honestly. I thought that there was nothing I couldn't do with the internet at hand, but this has completely stumped me. So, yeah...that's the message I get when I boot up. I've practically disassembled my PC to see what's up...visually speaking nothing looks wrong, it's all clean, everything's plugged into the right place, so that shouldn't be the problem. I can't access safe mode, it just won't let me, nor can I reinstall XP (it says "system is analysing your hardware" and then the screen goes blank and nothing happens). I've done diagnostics five times and apparently nothing's wrong. I don't care what happens to my files, there's nothing on there which I'm desperate to save, I just don't want to have wasted all of my money. Any help? I'm sure I can give hardware information if necessary.

Answer:"A Disc Read Error has Occurred. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to Restart"

You may have to Format your hrd drive and clear off the old installation of windows first.

You cant get to the area of installation that would allow you to do that. See if you can download from the hard drive manufacturer, who-ever that may be, thier hard disc maintenance tools. Such as Seatools for Seagate, or MaxBlast for Maxtor. Creating a bootable disc of which ever one youneed to use you should be able to partition and refomat the hard drive as these will boot with out attempting to boot from your hard drive. Also you can run a HDD test from the same disc telling you if you have a gone bad hard drive.

I dont know if this is the right thread, but here goes.

I try to start my Dell Inspiron 5010 laptop and I get "A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl Alt Del to recover"

Every page I've Googled about this error tells me my hard drive is shot and needs to be replaced. I'm in total denial so, can this really be? Have I lost all my data?

Does the hard drive need to be gutted and replaced?

Thanks.

Answer:"A Disc Read Error Has occurred" during Startup - Dell laptop

Hello there and welcome to the forums Doomdaddy!

If you want to be absolutely sure whether your drive is gutted/or still recoverable, try and pull it out of the laptop and place it into an external USB caddy/enclosure, and plug it into a working system to see whether the system can detect it or not...

You can also try to reseat the the drive in the laptop by taking it out and putting it back in again after a cold shutdown..

Hope that helps!

Ok so suddenly for no reason my computers starts acting unresponsive with numerous applications. Now I do what every good little Vista user does and tries to do a system restore. Now unfortunately system restore doesn't want to work ! I've tried this about 3 times so far with the same message, "An unspecified error occurred during system restore."

Help?

Answer:"An unspecified error occurred during system restore"... several times in fact...

Hello PaC,

Try putting the applications to run as 'Computer Administrator'. Hope this helps!

Hello,
well the title pretty much says it all.
I had been getting BSODs always, but I knew how to 'control' them (since I newly installed 7, I just had to start my PC, and once Windows ran and I could login, I restarted it.. and everything worked fine.. no BSOD). However, this time, I just felt like giving it a try the first time (login in without the restart), and well, I shouldn't have.

I got a BSOD, which by then I thought was normal, but then when the PC restarted, at the black controllers-screen I get the message "A disk read error occurred - Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart".

This I couldn't avoid: if I restarted I got to the very same screen and so on; I've searched for help in other places (some mention changing the slave/master functions of the hard drive and so on.., but none work), so I come to you.

Please, I urgently need your help. Thank you in advance.
Chris

Answer:"A disk read error occurred - Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

Your hard drive has failed. Replace it.
Disk read error refers to the "hard disk".

Sorry.

Hello everyone,

I would like to thank you for this great site. It helped me to fix my problems: when I tried to start Windows Explorer, or My Computer or Control Panel I got the message "An error has occurred in Internet Explorer. Interner Explorer will now close". And I could not start any of these programs.

Symantec Antivirus 8.1 and AVG 6.0 have reported several viruses, and they were claiming to be succesfull in puting them in quarantine and cleaning them. However, the problems persisted. I have run Windows installation to repair it - and I have re-installed Explorer - with no more luck.

Finally, I found your site, and install and run Ad-Aware. I have removed all spywares indicated by Ad-Aware, and the problem was fixed.

I believe that these problems were due to the site SecurityIGuard.com ! This site was occurring every time when I tried to run Internet Explorer. They are in a list of 'suspect' anti-spyware. It seems that they can do more than just run spywares in local computers. On my machine they broke Explorer - and really put me under stress
Can anyone do anything against such guys ?

Thank you very much for your site,
Ioana Goga

Hi,

I tried to install windows 7 on my computer and it caused an error and would not load. So i tried to install a fresh copy of windows XP SP3. When the computer performed it's normal reboot during the installation the computer hangs during the BIOS and gives the following error message "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart".

Any suggestions on how to fix this.

Answer:"A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart"

It sounds like the HDD is failing. Restart with a Windows disc again and do a Full Format, not a Quick Format. The full format will identify any bad sectors and mark them as such and not copy data to them. If there are too many bad sectors, then it will not format. You will need to buy a new HDD.

I believe this post was posted before but i could not find the solution for it...

When I try to connect with the wireless network through Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless, the following error message appears:
"An internal database error occurred when saving/updating the profile"

I tried roll back and re-installing the drivers but none worked...

the spec is,

Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG

let me know if you guys got any idea with this problem...

thanks a lot guys.

Answer:"An internal database error occurred when saving/updating the profile"

Dear Animex:

I had exactly the same problem, with the same hardware. This is how I fixed it.

01. Take a System Restore.
02. Use Add/Remove programs to remove Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software.
03. Rename C:\Program Files\Intel to C:\Program Files\Intel-Old.
04. Reinstall the software. I downloaded the latest version, 11.1.1.11.
05. Reboot when asked to.

Now, everything works.

I have a home built machine with an Gigabyte Mother board, 4 GB of RAM, Pentium D 3.4 GHz proc, Zalman 650 watt power supply running Winoidws 7 32 bit with all the latest updates, however, BIOS is unconfirmed. OS drive is a 650 GB SATA with plenty of space (at least 400 GB free) and the CD/DVD Rom is IDE.

My GPU card needed cleaning, so I removed it by disconnecting the Mobo power cable, the GPU powe cable (to the card) and the ATX 12v cable (this was necessary to remove the GPU card).

After cleaning and replacing the card, and assuring all the connectors were securly fastened, I received the above error.

Windows will occassionally get past the start up logo and the screen will go black with only the mouse present (slow start up?) OR the drive light will just be lit solid with the occasional access flicker.

What I have tried:
Ran the OS System Recovery Utility from the Boot disc. Took a while, said it fixed somethings, but still get above error.
Reverted Mobo BIOS settings to default.
Tried to run CMD.exe in the syetm recover tools in the Win 7 boot disc for dskchk and run "FIXMBR" or "FIXBOOT", but since I know nothing about DOS, couldn't figure out how to get it to check my SATA drive or past X:\services.

Using another system - one that that one cannot touch (no offense), download Killdisk and use ImgBurn to burn the CD-R or DVD-R ISO (or other - I always use -R).

Then boot your system up with KillDisk and you'll see the menu - 1 of the options (apologies, don't recall which off hand) will allow you to view partitions to see what's on them.

If you can boot from that, then use non-MS OS (Linux ?) to copy files out. I am unfamiliar with Linux and procedures, but I will be glad to request help if you can view the drive with KillDisk and find files you wish to try & save.

That was some "bickering thread", BTW - I guess some need HUGE fonts like that either to emphasize their point (like some YELLING) - or maybe they lost their glasses!

One thing I can tell you - the error message that you are receiving is IMHO purely related to the DVD/CD drive - CTRL-ALT-DELETE will not re-boot the hard drive. It is from the days of DOS and floppy drives. You are probably receiving that message b/c the system cannot find what it needs on the hard drive to boot - i.e., it is not recognizing it a MS Windows installation. It also could be the media - the DVD/ CD.

KillDisk - http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

Make bootable KillDisk ISO CD w/ ImgBurn -
ImgBurn - http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

For info - KillDisk WILL NOT automatically start deleting files when you boot with it - you'll see the menu.

hi, do you have a diagnostics partition on your inspiron, on mine I press F12 as the computer boots. If you do, run the extended test on the hard drive. At this point I should ask if your important files/pics etc are backed up as any test on a failing hard drive is intensive. You ask if your hard drive "just crashed", have you tried restarting to see if you have access.

Hi guys,

The IDE controller on my old motherboard kicked the bucket last week, so I've built a new computer. I have replaced my mobo, RAM, CPU, and graphics card, and have purchased a new OS. I've retained my old case, wireless card, hard disk and DVD writer.

The problem I'm having is that my system won't boot. It POSTs fine, recognises both the hard disk and the DVD writer, and Windows 7 64bit installation runs and completes without fault. However once Windows setup is complete, the system reboots, and when it tries to bood from the hard disk it give me:

a disk read error occurred. press ctrl+alt+delete to restart.Click to expand...

Ctrl+Alt+Del reboots but throws up the same error.

I've since tried the following...
Another IDE cable. No change.
Another brand new, packet-never-opened IDE cable. Still no change.
Thinking it might be my removable drive bay (I run my HDD in a removable bay so I can swap it out and setup a different OS without messing with my primary OS) I took the drive out and connected it directly. No change.
Tried it on 2 spare HDDs. Same error. I know all 3 drives were working fine last Monday. One of them was my primary drive in my old system, running Win7 RC1 until Tuesday when I formatted to go back to XP, as Win7 RC had commenced its 2hr shutdown cycle.
Tested the original Samsung drive with Samsung utilities, which report that there are no problems with the drive. Before I left for work this morning, started a low-leve... Read more

I need some help big time!

A Fatal Error in IE has occurred at 0028:C0011E36 in VXD VMM(01)+00010E36. Error was caused by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c

I was on the net yesterday and seems I picked up this horrible virus(above). Now it doesnít matter what profile I go in(user/guest etc) I have the active desktop recovery icon and then before I can do anything I get "there is a problem with Microsoft windows and it needs to close" If I click on donít send report or send report, windows closes and I just have a screen with the fatal error message on.

If I donít select either send report or donít send then my machine freeze's with the exception of anti virus gold(which incidentally was never installed and only appeared after this virus took hold of my pc). The only anti virus software I have on my machine is AVG which I can just about run but after the search it says it cant find any virus!!!! AVG is the only thing that will run at present if I go into task manager and stop running a few things I can just about launch internet explorer but it takes a while to open and then runs very slowly, I am unable to go into my computer or add and remove programs as my machine just freezes.

Please can someone help me???

Oh and I my operating system is xp and I have a dell dimension pc intel Pentium 4.

Hi,
Thanks for your valuable responses. I got the problem solved.
The Problem is, In the Advanced Option of Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPV4) Properties, there are more than 1 IP addresses for the machine. I removed all
the unwanted IP addresses and Kept the valid IP alone. Then there is no problem in file sharing.

Hi, I hope someone here can help me. I have HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop that I've had for close to 4 years. These past 4-6 months I have been getting issues such as getting BSOD (usually unmountable_boot_volume) and excessive lagging/hanging while working. I was able to fix these with chkdsk and sfc since no virus was detected.

But last night I had to force it to shut down due to hanging again and restarted it up to get "A disk read error occurred. Press ctrl + alt +delete to restart" only to receive the same message again. It doesn't go far enough to do a chkdsk or sfc. I tried to see if I can run ubuntu off my flashdrive and even went to make it bootable but it just gets it own set of error that I don't really want to deal with. It would be great if I can just get into my HDD one last time. I've already know that its on its way to dying but had no idea how long. I've already saved most of my files except a few and just need get it to work once more to save them. Would really appreciate any help!

When I try to access local drives in an RDP session from one Windows 7 Professional machine to another Windows 7 Professional machine the "net use u: \\tsclient\c" command receives:
"System error 87 has occurred."
"The parameter is incorrect."

When I try to access the same local drives in a RDP session with an Amazon cloud machine running Windows Server 2008 there is no problem, the net use succeeds. So I know the client machine is configured correctly. I am believe this was working on these same machines in Nov 2013. Coincidentally the Win 7 machines will no longer rdp if the server machine is on a Wifi network, only a cabled one. On Wifi, the RDP session fails to fully connect (it establishes a partial connection.) I can live without Wifi connections. It is probably irrelevant to the problem I'm trying to solve.

I have scoured the internet unsuccessfully for a solution.

Any suggestions?

I have had this Barbie Super Sports CD for a couple of years and have an error with this game "an unexpected error has occurred" while running OS XP, I have tried this game on the OS Vista and it works yaaaaa, the problem is it's my laptop and not the kids computer, which by the way has never seen the light of Internet ever.
Anybody has any idea on what to fix to make this run on XP, registry, display settings, a patch from Barbie, their web site is not very user friendly by the way, did some basic checks and found nothing obvious.
Looking for some help with this issue.

I just get "an error occured. please try again later" no matter what video I choose, or what resolution. Doesn't matter what browser I use- same result. And my Internet speeds are fine. Pages and emails are loading at normal speeds.
Vimeo works fine...just Youtube...nothing will load.

I made sure flash player was updated, cleared all cookies and cache in all browsers, rebooted, disabled all anti-virus and popup blockers, then tried in again using Opera, Chrome, IE 10, and Firefox. No Youtube videos, no matter what resolution I select, will play in any browser. "An error occurred, please try again later." The "Learn more" option is useless, as they usually are. Any other video site works fine. I get these same results on both computers. Called Time Warner and logically there's nothing wrong on their end, since I have connectivity, so they aren't able to help.

What in fuk's sake is going on here?

Greetings everyone.
Last Tuesday when I turned my computer on, I got the message ďA disk read error occurred, press crtrl+alt+delete to restartĒ. Since then I have been searching online for a way to get my computer back up & running.
The specs of my computer:

Dell Inspiron 9100 Notebook
Windows XP Pro SP3
P4 @ 3.2 Ghz w/ Hyper Threading
1 gb Memory
160 gb Western Digital PATA/IDE HD
(Replaced original 80 gb HD in May 08 b/c too small)
Removable internal DVD/CD-RW drive (& a removable internal floppy disk)
Purchased in Oct. 04.

When I installed the new HD back in May, I used Apricorn EZ Gig II & the included HD enclosure to copy the contents of the old HD onto the new one.

I first ran the onboard Dell diagnostics; it did a full system scan (from the processor to the memory to the HD) it told me everything was fine.
I then ran the WD hard drive utility from a floppy disk. I ran both the quick & full tests and it told me there were no problems.

Since the HD seems to be alright, Iíve been wondering if something has corrupted the Master Boot Record. I do my best to keep my system in check; security-wise I run Norton 360 2.0 & Ad-Aware 2008 (thereís more I can do though, I know). I donít think it could be malware, but who knows.

Anyways, Iíve tried booting from my Windows CD to get to the Recovery Console or do a repair installation, but things hit a snag. The drive spins up & I get a message telling me setup is preparing files, but then the scr... Read more

This is kinda long and I've fixed it, but could use your input.

So after waking up, my parents informed me that the computer was shutting down randomly. I turned it on and "a disk error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart " appeared. It's a Sata hard drive so I checked the cables to make sure they were plugged in correctly and they were, and then I tried connecting it to another computer with that computers cables and that didn't work either.

My parents not wanting to buy one online, decided to just go to bestbuy and buy one there, since we already had the Windows 7 Disk at home. I formatted it, partitioned it, and installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it and everything worked. I decided to connect the Hard drive that didn't work while the computer was still on, and it immediately started downloading the drivers it needed and up popped all the hard drive. I'm going to start transferring all the important things like music,videos and games, and after, all I can see are the following 3 things;

after getting all the data we want off it, should I reinstall windows to see if my other computer will recognize it (Even though it couldn't before), format it and just use it as extra data (though since it already couldn't boot up, the ability to keep data on it may fail in a couple of days/weeks) or just put it away and not use it at all.

What would you guys reccomend I do?

Answer:Hard Drive, "a disk error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart "

First get the data you need off it.

Then go to the mfr and get their HD testing utility and run it.

If it were me I wouldnt trust it. I have been burned before.

You certainly could use it for storage of, say one set of backups, for the chances of losing your OS HD, and that backup at the same time are nil.

Hi,

I am using windows 8.1 pro OS. When attempting to right click on the Network Connection and select "Properties", I receive the following error:

"An unexpected error occurred"

I have tried the following"fix":

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\netshell.dll,
and then click OK.
3. In the RegSvr32 dialog box, click OK.
Test to see if you can open the properties
of the network connection in the Network Connections folder.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\ole32.dll,
and then click OK.
3. In the RegSvr32 dialog box, click OK.
4. Restart the computer.

Both did not work. Can you please suggest on what should be done to resolve the issue?

Thanks

Hello
I have a Toshiba windows Xp professional 2001 Laptop

Before I got this error my computer was doing a shut down update. I forgot to plug the charger before I left to work and the screen said "please do not unplug or shut off computer" so I'm guessing my computer died before it could finish updating. I went home turned it on and got "a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart" restarted it and just keeps looping to that screen.

Spent hours searching the internet for a solution and nothing. So the only answer I could think of is factory reset it. Is there another way? Will it work? Please help

Thanks in advance

Answer:Will Factory Reset Fix "a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart"

If you have a Windows XP CD you can boot off of the that and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter this will try to repair any problems.
If you don't have an XP CD, you can download the ISO image for the Recovery Console: DOWNLOAD: Windows Recovery Console Burn the image to CD using IMGBurn in my signature. Boot off of the newly created CD in the troubled computer, and follow the above instructions.

Wow, I have never seen this error before. Google and Microsoft's sites are not helping at all, all the things that MS says is what I'm doing to create the problem is wrong. Here is what is going on:

Workgroup - e-henry.ca
IPs - 192.168.0.1-102

three other computers on the network can access the shares and the workgroup no problem. All the other computers can access eachother. This is a new laptop, getting correctIP (192.168.0.101), can ping the gateway and access the internet.

Here is the weird part, my server is 192.168.0.3 my main machine can ping it no problem but this laptop cannot ping 192.168.0.3 but it can ping the other two computers on the network. Don't know if that will effect this at all.

I can access my main machine's shares by run \\computername but it still asks me for a username and password even though I have the two users (my girlfriend and I) with all the same passwords on all the machines.

When I try to go into My Network Places, it is empty. When I try to see all the computers on the network I get

So I thought I would try to see what this computer can see for shares c:\net view, get that system error 53 has occured. What the hell does that mean? Gah, geting annoyed with this.

Can anyone help at all? I'm not sure if this topic has to go into Operating Systems or Networking...its kinda a mix of both.

Thanks.

Answer:WinXP Home net view "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found."?

What OS do you have on the server? Sounds like it could be an XP SP2 issue if it's on there, or possibly a firewall/ip filtering issue. Mentioning what OS's are on all the machines would be helpful.

As far as error 53, what is the error in the event log exactly, or does it log to the event log? If it is, check out eventid.net with the error number.

As far as the error you posted, I've seen network places empty many times on a domain, and on workgroups before, I wouldn't trust it too much. Did you try \\(ip address) as well, could be a problem with not resolving the computer name right.

Hello

I have had this problem for few days, i tried everything i could think of.
I suddenly got the message:
"A disk read error occurred,
press Alt+ctr+Del To restart"

First, i restored the BIOS settings to default, didn't work.
then i changed the HDD's cable, didn't work either.
Then i connected the HDD to another PC, I seem to see my partitions but without the sizes, the system stops when i try to open on of them!
I also tried bad-sector scanning, but it stops half way through!

at last, i tried booting from Ubuntu CD while my HDD is connected, but it took some time booting. So i tried booting without connecting the HDD and after it booted i connected it, but i didn't see my partitions!

it's a 1 TB, wd10ears. with less than 50 GB free space!
I NEED the DATA ON IT! IT"S VERY IMPORTANT!

any solutions guys?

I am unable to change any windows features whatsoever! Every time I try, I get the following error message, "an error occurred not all features were successfully changed" It tells me to restart my computer. After restart, I find out that nothing has been changed at all! Games are still checked, Internet Explorer 11 is still unchecked, Indexing service is still unchecked, and Windows Gadget Platform is still checked. when I unchecked those that I mentioned where checked and vice versa. I Googled the problem but only outdated Windows Vista results showed up in Google. There is nothing regarding this problem in Windows 7. This does this error message every time I try to change anything. sfc /scannow says "no integrity violations found" so that is not the problem.

Any ideas on what the problem may be and how do I fix this?

Answer:"an error occurred not all features were successfully changed"

Hi Sylveon,
You sure seem to have had some problems lately.
Do you have the install media,(hope it wasn't a torrent), that comp didn't come with Ultimate, W8 with d/g rights to 7 pro
I believe your best bet is a repair install.

Hello, fellas. I'm using a laptop with dual-boot between Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and Linux Mint 17.3 (Rosa). It was working like a charm with these two together, but one day, I turned my computer on, and chose "Windows 7" as the boot option. The boot screen loaded fine, but then, I got to the logon screen, and it was saying "Please wait.." It said that it was configuring Windows, but then, it says "An error occurred while installing updates, reverting changes.". I just waited for 2 hours, and guess what? Bam. It got into a loop. I had to turn it off with the physical button, and tried to load in Linux Mint. It worked perfectly. I tried to go to Windows' Safe mode, and it didn't work. It got to the loading drivers thingy, and froze after it "loaded" the drivers, and a weird line appeared on the top of the screen.. Is it a virus, or did I screw something up? By the way, I'm using Mint to write this.

Answer:"An error occurred while installing updates, reverting changes."

Do you have a backup image of the Windows partition? If so I would restore from that image and turn automatic updates off. The more stuff you have booting off one physical HD the more hassle when stuff goes wrong. In the old MBR days I had a 486 with a SCSI and an EIDE drive running Dos, Windows 3.0, OS/2 and Linux with several custom kernels. First it booted to Boot Magic, then if you selected Red Hat it loaded the Grub menu.

I juggled all that with no image backup program. It is much easier if you have image backups to bail you out. There are quite a few excellent free ones. These days the main fly in the ointment is GPT and if the Linux ones that say they support GPT really do in practice when you start doing multiple OS things.

Is your HD GPT based or MBR?

Windows Mail suddenly does not send or receive messages. When I attempt to send a message, I receive the following error, "The message could not be sent. An error has occurred." When I click the Send and Receive button, the pop-up box comes up, but not long enough for me to read anything. However, it appears to complete the send/receive process with no errors. I have had issues in the past and often received an error number, but not this time. When I go into my accounts, I have changed the password to my incoming server to the wrong one to see if it recognizes the error and have also changed port numbers and still receive no error. I have attempted working offline and double-checked to ensure it recognizes the wireless internet connection - which it does.

I do not currently have and have never had any anti-virus programs installed on my computer. I have logged into my email through my browser and deleted all emails from all of my folders, closed Windows Mail and then re-started it to no avail.

I would just upgrade to Windows Live Mail, but I already did that once before when I was experiencing other problems with Windows Mail, and that program has also stopped working correctly so I had to go back to Windows Mail. Therefore, it appears that if I cannot get this issue resolved, I will be stuck using my browser (which is not very user-friendly) and my iPhone. Needless to say, I am quite frustrated with Windows Mail and Vista!

PLEASE HELP!

Answer:Windows Mail - "The message could not be sent. An error has occurred."

First let's fix the major problem of not having an antivirus! For now please download Malwarebytes and run a full, updated scan. Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download That should clean up any bad software on your computer. And I would imagine you have a lot... There are plenty of good free antivirus programs out there, most of the people on this site highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

After running malwarebytes, see if your mail problem is still occurring.

Personally, I just have to recommend you switch to using Mozilla Thunderbird, instead of Windows Mail. It's very clean and easy to use. And free. Check it out. Mozilla Thunderbird That's just a personal suggestion, you don't have to if you really like Windows Mail

I've got kind of an oddball setup so I don't expect anyone can solve my problem off the top of their heads, but I'm also unable to dig any deeper o it because I can't find any logs of the error itself. I'm hoping at least someone can point me at the logs
and then I can figure it out and share the answer here.
What I'm trying to do is remote into a Sever 2012 R2 VM I created in Azure from my Windows 7 workstation. For security reasons there are a couple extra steps that include opening a secure connection, creating a local tunnel from some port locally to the
server at port 3389 and then connecting to localhost:<some port>. This
was working on my previous workstation. On my new workstation, I have a lot of leftovers from my old one thanks to a backup and restore process that the hardware team does when swapping them out. When I go through the same process now it fails with a very
unhelpful "An Internal error has occurred". I can RDP to other servers and my college can still RDP to these VMs in Azure, but I specifically can't connect specifically to these VMs.
I can't share an image yet, but it's really just a popup with the header Remote Desktop Connection that says "An internal error has occurred."
Is there a log or something in event viewer or some kind of utility I can run to get some more details about the error?

I've checked Application and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\TerminalServices____, and there's nothing there.
Is there so... Read more

Hi, I am currently based in Germany and cannot work out why I cannot access 2 associated websites:
Virgin Blue Airlines : www.virginblue.com.au
Velocity Rewards (reward program of Virgin Blue Airlines): velocityrewards.com.au

Error message always received when I try to get onto the above 2 sites:
?DNS error occurred. Server cannot be found. The link may be broken.?

For reasons that I cannot understand, I have never been able to log on to them from my laptop at home in Germany.

However, when using the same laptop in Australia with a different internet service provider, there is no problem with accessing the above sites so I know that I can reach the websites with this laptop.

I have tried many things including calling the airline directly to see if they have an IT help desk or if they are experiencing website problems. No to both. I have tried typing in the addresses directly into the URL field, clicking on through a link etc and nothing works. As far as I can see, the websites aren?t blocked by my antivirus software. I do not have problems accessing any other websites.

I use Windows XP, Internet Explorer 8, AVG 9 free edition software. Run anti-virus scans every 2-3 days and no viruses detected. No new software installed for some months.

Hi there,

Sometimes ISPs block certain sites. It may be worth checking with them to see if there is a block on it for some reason.

You could also try going onto a proxy surf site and accessing it from there incase the site has blocked your IP for some reason.

I started a chkdsk on a Win7 64bit computer that got stuck at startup repair. Before that though, I was looking around, the damage seems to be the windows files got messed up after an update. My computer data was intact when I looked around booted through a recovery cd and I checked again via a ubuntu live cd. My question is that the chkdsk d: /f apparently stopped in the middle and gave the following message:

An unspecified error occurred <6672732e637878>
Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50

What does that mean? Is it terrible? I just restarted the chkdsk anyway and as of now, it is finding less unreadable segments, but is there a risk of data loss?

Answer:chkdsk - "An unspecified error occurred <6672732e637878>"

Also before this, I attempted to sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=d:\windows and sfc /scannow when the first command didn't work. I also tried following the instructions here (Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery) but the numbers were off in SAM and one other one, Default I think.

If the chkdsk doesn't work, would the only option be a clean sweep? and is there a way that I can get a list of programs that I have saved on my computer (like how I could retrieve documents from Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Edit: Looking some more in the forums, my list of actions most closely resemble the advice of this thread SFC error - Windows Resource Protection could not perform...

Hello

About 3 hours ago I installed Windows XP x86 on an empty partition. Before the install my partitions were like this:

C: Windows7
D: Empty NTFS Partition
E: Backups Partition

I've installed XP many times before and I've never had this happen, but when the install finished, suddenly my Backups was C and my Windows 7 partition was E, making Windows 7 refuse to start. I tried to go into XP and switch them back to their original letters using "Computer Management" or something similar under "Administrative Tools", and to do that I had to make the Windows 7 one "active" and switch the letters, but it still wouldn't start.
The Windows 7 install disk will sometimes detect something is wrong, but it's tried to repair it 3 or 4 times now and still the same thing: "A disk read error occurred, press Ctrl Alt Del to restart".

Would anyone be able to help me out?

Answer:"A disk read error occurred" After installing XP

But have you ever installed XP on a drive with W7 already installed ?
Did you make a disk image of W7 on your backup drive ?

I have burned numerous home videos to DVDs with WMM2. I recently started getting the message "Movie Maker cannot create the DVD because an error occurred" during the burn cycle (dvd ejects). Exactly same thing yzrider3 posted in January '07 ---

"Then I went to save to dvd. so then its saving movie so it can be copied to a dvd. So it does that, then I start the burn. then about halfway throgh, while it says converting files, it gets half way in about 30 seconds, then it pauses, then the bars fill up and it kicks it out and says "Movie Maker cannot create the DVD because an error occurred." I can get the movie to play, no problems all the way through in any program that supports video, I just cant get it to burn." - yzrider, January 2007

I checked MS Support and they say the reason for the message is because:

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

You use Fast User Switching to change user accounts before you try to burn the DVD.
The account that you switched to does not have sufficient permissions to use the DVD burn engine that is used by Windows Movie Maker. To burn a DVD, the user account must have administrator permissions.
Neither of the above conditions are true in my case. I thought there may be some conflicts with recent installation of some software I installed for my son's mp3 but I uninstalled it and still same problem. All Windows updates have been performed. So I was finally able to reinstall Windows 7 Pro x64 on my uMBP. Don't know what I did to the previous install, but it was extremely slow at booting which was unacceptable. I was able to reinstall it today and get everything installed. It performed like a champ. Was very satisfied with everything. UNTIL...

There were some files on my desktop that I couldn't delete. It said it was corrupt and unreadable or something like that. I don't remember how the files got there. Multiple reboots wouldn't help allow me to delete them. I also couldn't remove the files in Snow Leopard or Ubuntu, which was really annoying.

SO, I did some searching which led me to do a chkdsk (upon startup). It seemed to have deleted some files and whatnot while it was checking the index of files. It eventually got to 70% of stage 2 when it seemed to have just stopped. CPU usage was as high as possible (fans were out of control) and it was just sitting there on like file 260000 of 280000 (almost done...) for about 10 minutes.

I then did a hard reboot, and was prompted with this:
Yeah, not a pretty site. Did some more searching in Snow Leopard, and didn't find anything that would help (did startup repairs from the DVD, did various bootrec.exe commands, etc). People say that their drive may be failing, which isn't my case, because Ubuntu and SL work just fine.

So, are there ANY POSSIBLE IDEAS on how I could get this fixed? It's weird how a freaking chkdsk would cause this.

I can't even mount my W7 parti... Read more

I have a Toshiba laptop that's about 3 years old with Windows XP. It has a weird, faulty lithium battery that would only hold a charge for a few minutes, but afterwards would start up with a message acknowledging that it was a faulty battery (hit F1 to continue). It was my mom's and she barely ever touched it because she couldn't get the touch-screen mouse to work with her nails.

I started using it about a month ago, for notes, music and a video game. It would be fine for hours, when suddenly everything would freeze up except the mouse, and I'd hear a whirring, chugging noise for a while. If I left it alone for maybe 30 minutes, everything would go back to normal. Today, I burned a music CD on it, and a few minutes later, everything froze except the mouse again. I left it alone for well over 3 HOURS and nothing changed, so I shut it down manually.

I turned it on again after it had cooled down, and it got stuck on the second screen (the one with the OS logo and the moving blue bar) for another hour, chugging and whirring all the while. I thought if I let it cool down further, I'd be ok, so I shut it down again, waited and rebooted. And now it won't start.

It flashes a screen with Toshiba Touchsmart briefly, then goes to a black screen with a blinking line for about five minutes, before announcing "A disk read error has occurred. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete to reboot."

I've got notes on there I need for a final on Friday! Please, someone... Read more

Wow,

So I did some work on this machine not too long ago. It had basically lost one hard drive in a raid 0 setup during a power surge, and this poor fellow lost all his data. I tried to talk him into upgrading to a third drive for future situations like this, but now not even two weeks later, when he boots, we get to a screen that says

a disk read error occurred
press ctrl alt del to restart

A browse through these wonderful forums is telling me that his hard drive, or at least the partition on 1 of the drives is toast, which would be disastrous at this point. So I am truly hoping for another solution. Yes the machine is running Raid 0. When I boot the machine I get to the intel boot agent screen with the option to enter the setup menu (this is not the bios, just a boot agent something or other where you can tell the machine to boot according to the bios ect) Following that, the screen goes blank, the super micro graphic screen comes up just briefly and then bam, this good old message appears, so there does not even appear to be a way to get into the bios.

I am desreate for advice... If I must resinstall windows, then so be it, but we are talking thousands of dollars worth of data, that would be lost. Please please help!

Answer:Raid 0, Boot prob, "A disk read error occurred" press ctrl alt del to restart

Try hitting del continuously when booting to see if you can get into the bios, then see what drives in the raid array are recognized.

Yeah... Well, I came to my computer and the screensaver was on, so I pressed the spacebar to make it go away and it just froze. After that I unplugged the thing and turned it back on. The sony Viao logo comes up, then the screen goes black and says "A disk read error occurred" and "Press ctrl+alt+del to restart. I press it and it restarts. Same thing, over and over. So now I'm on Ubuntu posting this... does anyone know what's wrong with my computer or how to fix it (I really don't want to reformat )?

Hi To All,

I was given a Toshiba lap top that has "A Disk Read Error Occcured" when starting up the computer. It has a windows XP program. It came with a Product Recovery disc, but still reads the same error when using the disc during start up. Can anyone give me any info on how to solve this problem, or what steps I should take to repair this problem.

Thanks In Advance

Ed

Answer:"A Disk Read Error Occurred"

You will need a XP disk to boot from (not the recovery disk). When you have one boot from the CD and select "R" at the first prompt. This will take you to the recovery console. You will be asked which XP installation you want to log in to (usually 1) and for the password (press enter if you don't have one). At the prompt type (without quotes) "chkdsk c: /r" and press enter. Check disk will now start and examine the drive for errors (fixing any it finds). Once done remove the disk from the CD drive and reboot. If the error on the hard drive was not critical then Windows should start up. If not then use your Recovery CD to reinstall the system.

Remember - when you use the Recovery Disk everything on the hard drive (partition) will be erased!

Hi,
I've got a lot of ongoing problems with my computer.. Something that has been bugging me is the difference in operations between regular operating mode and safe mode.. This particular situation has to do with AOL instant messenger 6.1. When the computer is running in safe mode, AIM starts and works perfectly, no problems whatsoever. When operating in normal running mode however, when I try to sign on I get a message from the AIM program that says "A connect error occured". The rest of the internet works fine, all websites load and function properly.. My old version of AIM 5.9 signs on and works perfectly.. However, the new AIM 6.1 refuses to sign on.. What is going on here?

Hi, i post this because i didn't read anything similar to what is happening to me.

Days ago i notice Windows was working bad, programs like Photoshop "stop working" corrupted files, the folder "Program Files x64 disappeared, Windows get to much time to start. So i decide formatting the disk.

"A disk read error occurred"

Was the first that appears before restart to a fail try of install windows, because the installer doesn't recognized my HDD

"A disk read error ocurred, press CTRL+ALT+SUPR to restart."

Also appears, sometimes the BIOS or the Boot Menu doesn't recognized the HDD too, sometines the BIOS yes but doesn't the Boot Menu, ŅWTF? and sometimes i could and pass to windows but very slow; finally i could formatting and install windows.

It works fine for a few days, i could reset windows (installed drivers) without see any problems also enter really fast to windows, but then... files disappeared again, Firefox (one of the first program i installed) stop working... and when reset

"A disk read error occurred"

Appears every time, so its clear for my at that point whats happens, the HDD is dying, normally considering it 6 years old. and have 6 times formatted. a friend lent me his HDD older than mine (it work fine he said) so i plugged it, and turn on the pc but.

"Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device"

Appears, (it has installed already Windows... Read more

We have several users on a Windows 2012 RDS server. Recently two started having an issue logging in. They VPN to a Sonicwall firewall (which is successful...we can ping the server).
When they try to connect using the Windows RDP client we are now getting "An internal error occurred". I cannot find out where details of this error are so It's VERY frustrating to try to fix based on "something went wrong" as the definition.
I need to get this working ASAP. How do I track down where this is failing?
Note: This is a Sonicwall NSA 250M firewall with sufficient VPN licenses. We can PING the remote server through the VPN tunnel but we cannot seem to get folders by opening Windows File Explorer and typing in the server IP (e.g. \\172.65.44.18). It times
out (and there are shares on that server so we SHOULD see SOMETING).
Is this a sudden firewall issue or something to do with RDP server licensing or something else? I have no clue where to even start investigating this.

Hi all. I've had a problem on my computer for some time now, and have tried many things (shown below) to remedy the problem, but nothing has worked for more than a single session (i.e, when I reboot, or power back up, the problem reoccurrs).

When I 2xclick the IE icon on my desktop, there is a 5 sec pause before the message "An error has occurred in Internet Explorer. IE will now close. If you continue to experience problems, please restart your computer" appears. Things I've tried to fix are...
reinstall XP Pro
Reinstall IE
Run IEFix.exe utility (downloaded from www.mvps.org/sramesh2k... I think!)
Run latest versions of AdAware, Spybot S&D and CWShredder

I've noticed from other posts that a copy of the log from HijackThis is also helpful, so here y'go!

Running Windows 7 Home Premium. Tried to install a Canon Pixma MG2120 print driver.

I successfully installed it and then had to uninstall another HP driver. After that I could not reinstall the HP or the Canon MG2120 driver later on.

Did a system restore and tried again.

Got msg " An error occurred while files were being copied 0001 0002"

Added a new account with Admin priviledges and used it to successfully install the Canon MG2120 driver.

How do I troubleshoot the original account which was unsuccessful at installing the Canon driver even though it also had Admin priviledge?

Hello,
I need some help. When browsing the Internet (I have Explorer) a message box will pop up that says "An error has occurred in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will now close. If you continue to experience the problems, please restart your computer." I have restarted the computer and it still does this.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. I am running Windows 98 Second Edition (4.10.2222A) with 64MB of RAM.

My friend's computer got this error when it boots up it will get past POST then it gives this error message "Disk read error has occurred. Press ctrl alt del to restart". This is on a 74GB Raptor and Windows XP Professional.

I ran 4 different hard drive tests including WD's DLG Diagnostics and no errors were found on any. SMART values were all normal aside from power on time. So the hard drive is fine. I assumed that meant there must be something wrong with the file system or MBR.

Then I connected the drive to my computer to see if I could get any data. It showed up in 'My Computer' as drive D but I could not access it. It didn't show any details about it. I didn't have any recovery software installed so I just restarted to get into Recovery Console. It would not let me do chkdsk (it didn't even give me the option to log into a windows installation). Tried fixboot and fixmbr; neither helped.

So just now I did a low level format and reinstalled Windows XP. Everything is running fine so far and I don't expect to get any problems (at least until he fucks it up again ).
I'm just wondering if anyone knows what would cause this error. It's the first time I've ever seen it.

Answer:"Disk read error has occurred" - what causes this??

:confused

4 year old Dell INspiron 9100 - New hard drive installed 10/08.
Old HD 60G New 250G IDE

From the getgo Bios would only see New HD as a 137G
However once OS loaded and running system read it correctly.

Things ran smoothly for 45 days then one morning only Bios would load no OS
It would load to a BLACK screen with the blinking cursor

Ran all diagnostics- ATP, took it to BB where I bought the HD, Geeks ran diag - ATP

Recommended a fixboot to no avail. Wipe/Install after that.
Ran again for for about 30 days, Norton update required reboot.

Then the infamous "disc read error occrred" - ctrl, alt, del to restart.
Same thing over and over...

Took it back to BB they ran all the tests - ATP again.
They said maybe the controller was bad on the MB.

Does anyone or everyone agree with this summation?

I Booted from CD to run diagnostics - ALL tests passed

I am not a GEEK but feel fairly confident, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

drmglfr

Answer:"disc error occurred" ctrl, alt, del

Just a quick clarification--Were you getting a similar error on the old HD? Why did you replace the HD--needed more space or wouldn't boot?

Hello all,

My computer has been misbehaving and freezing for anywhere from 3 seconds to a couple minutes at random times lately, and earlier today it locked up to the point that it wouldn't respond to any input at all, so I forced it to shut down with the power button, and when I booted it back up it took 15 minutes to get past the splash screen, and when it did it was just a black screen with the words "A disk read error occurred" in the top left corner.

I searched the interwebs and found out that this usually doesn't mean my data has been lost, which filled me with hope. But after putting in my windows 7 disk and getting into command prompt through the repair options, to run chkdsk as my first attempt at a solution, I could not figure out a way to get it to scan the disk. It seemed to be running the chkdsk on my windows 7 cd. After rebooting the system and checking the bios, I found that my HDD was no longer being picked up, although if I do further system reboots, it will occasionally pick the HDD up again, but after restarting again to try and boot from the windows 7 disk to attempt some kind of repair, it no longer picks up the HDD.

Any ideas my friends? If there is any other information that you need, just ask and i'll find whatever I can.

Answer:"A disk read error occurred"

Hi I would suspect the HHD; if you can't run a chkdsk from command prompt. You could give seagate dos a try???
