Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Question: Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Hi there, I have a toshiba A75 laptop that does not boot when on ac power without a battery beyond bios. It shows the splash screen but then dies on normal boot.

When I have the battery in and the unit is powered off It does charge the battery.
When the battery is fully charged, it will run and boot into windows but does not recognize the ac power at all. It just drains the battery, then when the battery is at 0 it shuts off and this is while connected to AC power and the LED see's the AC power.

When on AC power I can boot into bios and it will sit there for days without a battery, but when I try to get to the OS it just shuts down. I have replaced the mobo twice. I have replaced the hard drive as well. The odd part is that with the hard drive out of the laptop, I can get the laptop to run with out any power failures. It just recycles the media device failure message but does not crash.

I have tested the power supply on other laptops and it seems to work just fine.

Any one have any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Since you have replaced the system board twice, this probably does not apply to you... but we have seen a number of Toshibas with the same or similar motherboard where the power jack on the board became loose or disconnected. A new jack had to be obtained and soldered back into position.
If you bought used boards or refurbished boards, this difficult jack problem could have been the cause. It requires a special cold solder technique and is awkward to access, but when done properly by an experienced tech, it can save a laptop.
There are several Dell Inspirons and Sony laptops with the similar problem.
We have seen costs in a shop as high as $160 for this repair... but the part is only $6.00 so I don't know how they justify the high cost.

Hey I need some help with a Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7230 that I can't seem to get to power up. I thought it was the power switch but that doesn't seem to be the case as I just replaced it and the computer still won't power on. Any ideas what else could be wrong and is it worth fixing?

Ok, I am fully aware of the black screen of death issue, which I have along with everyone else who didn't pay attention when buying this comp, but this morning I tried to turn it on and I get a blinking battery light, but nothing else. I took out the battery and tired with just the AC Adapter plugged in, no blinking light, nothing. With the adapter unplugged and the battery in, I still get the blinking light. So I figured it had to be the adapter. I went out and bought a new adapter, but no dice. Anyone else have this problem? Know any possible way to fix this or what's causing it?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A215 power issue

Bad motherboard... Or broken DC jack. You could try removing the hard drive and see if the notebook posts

Ok I have done a ton of research online about what could be wrong with my laptop. But I cant find anything about my situation. When I plug the charger in I get a blue charge light on and it stays on. I dont have a battery so I cant tell you if it will charge. But to my knowledge I dont even need a battery to turn on the laptop. I can use AC. When I hit the power button the power light next to the charge light turns on for 5-10 seconds and then shuts off. I can do this over and over till I am blue in the face. By the way when i hit the power button nothing happens inside the laptop at all. No sound or movement. Now i have tried to hold the power button with out it being plugged in for 30 secs to 3 mins and still the same routine. I reseated the memory and also taken out the hard drive and DVD drive. Still nothing. Can someone help me to troubleshoot this machine.

PS does the fingerprint reader have anything to do with it not turning on?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite P205 S6337 Power Issue.

the fingerprint reader is for after post so not to actually turn it on
running off ac all the time may have knackered the connectrion where the power goes to mobo and also your cmos will be suffering also do you not get anything at all on the screen not even for a second?

My Toshiba laptop was working fine with the AC adapter plugged in (the battery was on it's last breath and would not charge at all, so I always had to keep it plugged it). I had to move so I unplugged the laptop (did not shut down). After the move I tried turning it on and it would not.

The AC Led light is on, so it's not the adapter.
The Battery light is amber and flickering (it wasn't flickering before)
When I press the power button to power up the laptop - the Power and the CD/DVD Led lights go on, but not the HD light. And the screen stays blank.
I hear no sounds, seems the HD is completely dormant.

There are a few files on the HD that I absolutely have to have. I'm not too concerned with getting the laptop to be operational, I just need to get those files and the laptop can be recycled.

Any ideas? How to get it to power up at least once, so I could copy the files?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite power issue with AC adapter pluged in

Try taking the battery out of the laptop and powering the laptop on (with the AC adapter plugged in obviously). Another option for recovering the files would be to get an adapter to connect the laptop drive to a usb port on another pc.

I have a power up issue with my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033. About a month ago my laptop suddenly shutoff and is showing no power incoming/charging. When I try removing the charger and plug and holdong down the power button it ends up not doing anything andiI've tried for about 5 mins. It does however light up for a split second when I remove the battery and plug the adapter in; it makes the power led flicker red and out again. I'm thinking it was just fried/motherboard dead but since its lighting up I'm hoping that's not the case.

Toshiba Satellite L305-5955, Ive taken apart and replaced power jack. Not directly soldered to motherboard. While still apart, and battery out/in, connected power supply and still absolutely no response. Power supply is NOT original, and slightly different specs, i.e original 19v..6.3A

current 19v..3.1A

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L305-5955 does not respond to power supply, new power jack

Almost certainly the problem is that the current rating is wrong, if the laptop needs
6.3 A of current, it won't function on less (just as you can't use a 3A fuse for a kettle!)
Unfortunately it must be the right current rating, I know, I've been caught that way too!
Maybe you can exchange it?

My Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 wont boot when the power cable is plugged in, unless it's in safe mode. If it's running on battery, it will boot fine normally, but as soon as I plug the power cable in, it freezes. While on battery power, I've uninstalled EVERYTHING. If I boot windows on battery power, then plug it in, it's fine if I dont do anything, but as soon as I do something like open IE, try to shut it down, etc, it freezes.

So to summarise, everything has been uninstalled, safe mode and battery works fine, but plugged in freezes the laptop.

Anyone got any ideas?

When I plug in the AC adapter (and I've tried several) the battery indicator LED rapidly blinks green. No fans, no CD drive or hard drive movement. It's just DEAD.

The 30 second power button trick did not help and Google didn't tell me anything about the flashing green plug LED.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Had this problem for a while, any ideas please?

My Satellite L40-14N sometimes won't boot up when the power lead is not connected. It starts up ok but when I get to the Windows screen the coloured blobs just keep moving from left to right and the machine won't get any further no matter how long it's left.

This never seems to happen when the power lead is connected and power is switched on, it boots just fine.

Answer:Satellite L40-14N boot issue without power lead

Hi starmonkey,

Which power lead you mean exactly? Do you mean the AC/DC adaptor?

To be honest I also don?t know why this happens but are you using preinstalled OS from Toshiba?
Have you installed another display driver?

Maybe you should try to reinstall Windows? In worst case it?s a hardware malfunction :(

I have this laptop that when u plug in the power cable the computer freeze and if u have it plug in will not turn on. If u unplug it will turn on and when u plug it will freeze. The issue is u cant use it plug in so u only can use it without the power cable on, need to charge computer and recharge to be able to use it. Like if when u plug it in made a contact with something or takes to much load of energy that causes to freeze or dont go up. Thinking can be the power plug inside conection with the motherboard? any suggestions?

What type of ac adapter do you have, voltages and have you tried another type of ac adapter ?

I don't know for sure, but... it sounds like something is wrong with the ac jack.
Those can be replaced easily if you know how to solder, the part will cost less 7 dollars USA wise but shipping to you might be another issue due to your location.

I'm attempting to fix a laptop:

Toshiba Satellite L455-S5975

It was thrown and was able to power on. I took it apart to see if it was fixable. While trying to turn it back on I couldn't get it to start back up. Any ideas where I could have gone wrong? You couldn't get it start back up? That means it worked perfectly fine until.........? What?

If it you found it in the trash and it never worked, then it's broken. How much money do you want to spend trying to fix it?

Hello guys. This is my first post here. First at all, thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I'm from Costa Rica so excuse me if my english sometimes gets messed up.

I know this is an old thread. I double checked any possible option before i decide to post my situation. But none of them seems to work for me.

My problem is this:
I got a laptop Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334
Model number: PSAA8U-14M02K
Systemboard Toshiba number is: V00068590
Systemboard number is: 1310A2041316
What happened to my system is the like you guess it wont power up. Last time my brother used, it was working fine, he let the battery run out of power so we could start charging it back from 0. But when we plugged nothing happened, no lights, no charge no anything.

i tried everything, from removing the battery to replace hard drives an other components.. (with the help of a expert). Eventually i took it to the toshiba support center and the guy only tells me that is the systemboard what is wrong with the computer.

Now, i will like to know what exactly went wrong but they wont tell me. they just tell me that i have to replace the component.

Now here comes the thing.... is the second time in less than a year that i will have to replace the motherboard. First time it was under warranty so they change some defective systemboard along with some memory. 6 months later it happens again.

The first time it wasn't so drastic. it gave me some signs of failure so i took it right awa... Read more

Recently I dismantled my laptop to fix the power socket on the back. Having done a good job on that I assembled it only to find that it would not boot up and the only thing that does happens is the orange power L.E.D. at the front flashes.I have read some information from Toshiba Technical Service & Support which states, and I quote :"Toshiba Europe has identified that some notebooks manuafactured in January and February 2000 may have a fault that could prevent the notebook from starting up. This fault has been reported on some Celeron(tm) processor based Satellite 4090 systems operating at 400 MHz as well as Pentium(r) II processor based Satellite 4100 and Tecra 8000, operating at 400 MHz only.Affected notebooks can no longer be started and the DC-IN LED at the front of the notebook blinks. Intel and Toshiba have developed the solution to this issue that has been implemented in manufacturing (Intel revised up the module to REV 505) and any affected notebooks can be repaired relatively easily."End of quote. If anyone can tell me what this repair solution is I would be very happy !!!Thanks

Answer:Power-up on Toshiba Satellite 4100XCDT

You eliminated the most important part of the quote:"Notebooks with the potential to show the no boot issue would be in a serial number range starting with ?10? or ?20?. The serial number can be found on the silver product ID label on the base of the unit. Please contact your local Toshiba Service Partner for more Information"

Old laptop batteries can do strange things toward the end of their lives. It's probably time for a replacement. When you purchase the new battery, be sure you can return it just in case it turns out that the battery isn't the problem....

Not sure if anyone can offer any advice on this one. Basically I bought a laptop from someone who I work with for my son as an xmas present. Paid £400 for it which I was told was reasonably fair at the time, it was 14mths old.As of yesterday it has apparently died. When it is connected to the power supply there are no lights, nothing. The power lead is warm so I am assuming that part is ok. When I wiggle the power lead around there is no intermittent power coming through, so I think the power jack is ok so that leaves me with the motherboard. I have read on some sites that it can be pretty expensive to repair, some companies offer to change the whole mother board whilst others will repair the faulty chips. Not sure whether to send it off to someone or take it down to a local computer repair shop (I dont want to be ripped off more than I already have)!Has anyone else had a similar problem, or can someone recommend a good repair company to use.

1. Disconnect battery and try on mains only.2. with battery and mains disconnected hold power button for 30 seconds, reconnect battery then mains and reboot. (rids board of static which may be causing the problem)

Hi all and thanks in advance.

I'm trying to repair a Toshiba Satellite 2455-S305 that will not power on after being dropped on it's corner. It hit on the corner where the speaker and power jack are.
When I plug it in, the power light and battery charging light come on. If I press the power button, the power light comes on, but I don't hear anything, see anything, or feel any vibration to show that it's actually trying to boot or anything.

I opened it up, took it apart and reseated every connector, RAM, and drive and am still seeing the same problem.

The power jack is removable, and attached via cable to the motherboard. It looked like it was in pretty good shape and the cable and connector did not seem to be stressed.

I also tried plugging it in to an external monitor with no results.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite won't power on after being dropped

Maybe you damaged the motherboard or CPU?

...and this would probably mean the laptop would make a 'beep' sound, but maybe u damaged the sound too?

Hi everybody!

I'm having a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1DJ. It has an 750 GB HDD, but that wasn't enough for me. So I bought a Toshiba 1TB HDD. I undid all the screws, carefully (using my driver license), lifted up the plastic and removed a HDD.

BTW, I really like that platic solution on the HDD!!

Then I realised, that all my stuff is still on it.
So I put the HDD back, planning that I'll copy everything on my ext. hard drive.
Well I screwed it back, got the battery back in, put the AC adaptor back.

The LED was on, indicating that power is flowing, battery is loading. I pressed the "Power-On" button, and nothing happened. Pressed it again still nothing. I plugged the battery and the AC adaptor out, I held the Power button for 30 sec, put everything back still nothing. I got scared. Opened the back once again, just to take a look at, if anything slipped out. Nope.

Everything is A-OKAY. What to do? Did I void the warranty? I hope not.
Can I repair myself without voiding my warranty? I hope so!

And also: I bought the laptop in Hungary, but I'm in Germany. Can I get it repaired here, in case my warranty is valid?

Thank you for your help!

When you are trying to turn it on are there any bleeps or do any lights flash in any kind of sequence ?

A couple of things you could try and that is a cold boot and/or resetting the BIOS.

A cold boot is when you remove the battery and the AC power cord then hold the power button in for 40 secs - 1min.

Have you tried booting up with just AC and the battery removed ?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite P10-833. Sudden power down

Hi Dimitri,

Sudden power downs without the normal shutdown process occurring can be caused by over-heating. Check that your notebook is not blocked with dust and debris in the area of the air intake fans and CPU heatsink.

I am working on a friend's toshiba satellite a75-s2111 laptop computer. She gave it to me telling me it was not even turning on. I have worked with it and discovered 2 issues with the power supply. First that the power cord is a bit loose going into the computer and not always giving it power, however seems fixable when I plugged my rocketfish universal adaptor into it (piece 41 was used, even though this specific computer is not on capatibility list, which is what similar toshibas listed used).

However there is a second problem with the power supply that I am not sure how to even begin fixing. When the cord is plugged in and the computer is off, the power cord light on the front of the computer shows green and the battery light shows red. While in this state, the battery seems to charge some. If I turn it on, the power cord light and the computer on lights turn green, and the battery light turns off. The power is then drained from the battery and not from the power cord. The computer shutting down from lack of power when the battery is drained and refusing to run completely if I try to run it without the battery.

How do I go about fixing this second problem or is it even fixable? I do not want to suggest trying out a new battery unless I know for sure that would solve the problem, otherwise it would be $100 wasted if it does not work.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.

Answer:Toshiba laptop power issue

Does sound as if the battery is dead, however I can understand your reluctance to buy another should that not be the real fault.

I am sure there are other more experienced people here that know about electrical circuits. If it were me I'd try and get hold of replacement power cord, exactly the same as the old one.
I'd take my Tosh to shops selling second hand Toshes and ask to use thier power cord to test connection. Or even ask about trying a new battery before you buy.
I might buy a new cord from Ebay.

If its an old machine then it will probably be the battery. And Tosh batteries when they go they just go!

Let us know what happens, I have a Tosh so maybe my fate will be yours

I was wondering if anybody can help me with my current problem. My laptop won't charge, nor will it start up. I had recently had AC adapter issues and had to get it repaired. I had soldered a new tip for the old adapter, and it worked for a time, but the solder was a horrible job and it got loose again, so I just decided to get a whole new adapter. Before the solder had come off of the old ad adapter, the laptop ran fine, receieved power, and charged the battery. Now with the new ac adapter plugged in, the power blue LED simply blinks blue while the orange battery light remains off. I was wondering if there was a quick fix for this. I have already tried taking the battery and AC adapter out and holding the power button for well over 30 seconds and I still receive the same result- blinking LED. Can anybody help me out here?

My laptop model is a Toshiba Satellite A135-S2426. As it is an old laptop, it's really not worth bringing in getting it serviced and I have a little knowledge about the laptop itself. Also a point of note, it isn't the AC jack on the inside, since i've removed the casing and checked on the's completely separate from the motherboard and when plugged into another ac source, it worked fine. Toshiba's are notorious for power problems. I had a Satellite P10-809, I paid a small fortune for it, and within 6 months I started experiencing power problems. I was also receiving a constant mild electric shock whenever my arm rested on the casing of the unit while typing.

I believe there is a class action law suit against Toshiba ( I was furious trying to deal with Toshiba as they denied any problems and more or less implied that I was imagining everything. In the end, I wrote off the £1,500 I spent on the unit and have never purchased Toshiba since. I have also warned every company I have worked for to boycott Toshiba.

I have a Satellite A60-297ITA bought with XP Home.
Now I've bought an XP Pro and I've installed it reformatting all the notebook.
Then I've installed all the drivers downloaded from your site.
The Installation of seems to work fine, but at reboot I obtain an error:
A fatal error has occurred. This program will be terminated. code: 0x7E.
What can I do?

Answer:Toshiba power saver crash on Satellite A60

Unfortunately it is not easy to say why this error message occurs. It is very important that you use Installation Instructions document while drivers and tools installation because the installations order is very important for successful installation.

Try to remove power saver and install it again.

Hi all,

I keep getting the following led error code...

(L - Long, S - Short) LSSSSLSS

This repeats over and over again. I've tried researching what this code is relation to but with no joy. I suspect a motherboard issue or power microprocessor issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, here?s the story. I own a Toshiba Satellite A350 laptop for a few years. As every night, laptop was on, I press the power button making it go into hibernate and then pull out the plug (battery is out, since it is always on cable and it might save the battery)

The next day, I plug in the adapter, press the power button and nothing happens. Literally nothing. Black screen, not a single sound .. nothing. All I can see is the indication light that the adapter is plugged in, which lights up.

I searched the internet (using another PC, duh ) and found lots of similar issues with Toshiba laptops. Main solution seems to be holding the power button for 30 second, putting the battery in and restarting it. None of these methods help.

I took the laptop apart, checked (and disconnected) the CMOS battery. Checked the power button, which is working, cleaned everything.

Here?s the weird thing: I have an USB optical mouse and a keyboard connected. I noticed that ?besides the indication of the adapter- the red light of my mouse is on all the time and also the indication lights (caps lock, num lock) of my keyboard can be switched on. So there seems to be power on my USB as soon as I connect my adapter.

Hope anyone can help, because I ran out of options. Two friends looked into it, no one has a clue.

Glad for any help you can provide.

I have never seen this kind of error message. As far as I know there is just a message who informs you that you will not be able to use Microsoft power saver settings and Toshiba power saver at the same time.

Can you please write the original message?
In my opinion you should use the recovery DVD for OS installation. Believe me, in this case you will not have this kind of problems.

My laptop has developed a strange power fault, it will charge the battery while it is off but when you turn it on it seems to run off the battery then power down when the battery goes flat. All the time this is happening the AC power light is on which suggests the power is connected and all is well, the battery light shows it is fully charged until power on when it changes from white to amber.
I am going to buy a new battery as mine is not lasting very long and I need the laptop for work and can't afford to replace it right now. Any suggestions as to why the battery is getting charge but not the laptop itself.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A300 power fault.

There could be a number of reasons. A loose connection, power adapter fault etc.
Try removing the battery from the laptop and see what happens when the mains power supply are then turned back on.
You could also have a look at this link for Toshiba information
Doing a simple internet search, there appears to be a number of Toshiba laptop charging problems mentioned, with some possible solutions.
Failing that, have you tried Toshiba support and customer care?.

Hey guys,
I've searched the forums a little to find a solution to my problem.
Having not found anything that seems to be the fix, i'm here - with my first post.

I've been looking at a friends Toshiba Satellite A300, that wont power on.
It was working fine until he purchased a new charger - a universal one.
He took the model number into the shop and was told this charger would do the job.
He told me the tip was hard to get into the charger port, he had to use force.

Since then, it hasn't powered on. He told me the charge lights were coming on, but nothing else.

I have the same model laptop as him, so we tried with my charger, my battery, still nothing.

I've taken the laptop completely apart. Re-seated everything. Still nothing.

What i noticed was that with the battery in, and my charger, when i left it charging for a while and tried to power on, it waited maybe a minute then the fan and power on lights came on for maybe 5 seconds then it died again.

Another thing i've noticed is that when it's charging with the battery in, the quick play lights near the power button work. I can press them without the laptop being on and they turn on/off except the media light, it stays on if turned on.

The only thing i have yet to try is replacing the CMOS battery.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what may be the problem here? It seems very odd for this to just start happening. The laptop hasn't been taken apart ... Read more

Is it OK to uninstall the Power Saver v5.04 from a SP6100 as it doesn't seem to work properly, or at all?

I have already been checking and changing the BIOS v1.90 power settings also accordingly, but the machine still neither ever power-off the hard drive nor will go to standby sleep.

The only things working somehow are the screen saver and screen power off, but very rarely according to the settings' timing ...

Best regards,

Pete V.

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100 and "Toshiba Power Saver"

Hello Pete

I?m really wondering the Power Saver doesn?t work well on your notebook. This tool is one of the best Toshiba designed tools and it is very useful if you want to optimize notebook power consumption.

I really don't know what is wrong there but if you are not satisfied you can remove it from the system or simply use different ?power scheme? in power options properties.
Maybe you should try to reinstall power saver.

Have you noticed some other issue with your SP 6100?

Does anyone know how to uninstall the Toshiba Power Saver Driver manually (so that one does not have to perform a clean install of Windows)? There is no automatic uninstallation for the TPS driver (not to be confused with the Toshiba Power Saver that can be uninstalled without problems).
Notice: the recovery CD is not an option here, because the TPS driver is included.

I want to do this to check if it is the thing that messes up the keyboard or not (see posts on M60 keyboard problem). I just wanted to check it on a new Sat P100 that has a similar keyboard, but guess what... the TPS is not enclosed with it.

As one may have guessed, the keyboard problem was not solved at the Toshiba service representative.

I liked the Toshiba Power Saver that I had used for so long with my laptop, but after upgrading to W7-32b it does not work anymore... Most of the new utilities and drivers from Toshiba are specific for W7-64b.

I was wondering if a driver from a relatively new computer (32b based) would work fine in mine and, if it is worth a try, which one would be the most "similar" laptop to mine?

In case nothing works is there any other power management utility that you could recommend me?

This is a Toshiba Satellite L25 - Model no. PSL2XU

The laptop won't turn on. I unplugged the battery and tried direct power from the AC adapter, and still nothing. There are no indications of life (no light to indicate charging, power, anything). I don't think it's a battery issue.

When I plug the AC adapter, and I take the battery out, the prongs that connect to the battery sustain a voltage (I checked with a voltmeter). I don't think the adapter is bad.

So what could it be? Is the motherboard just dead? A short circuit somewhere between the AC adapter and the motherboard?

My brother uses the laptop. He tells me he had issues keeping the battery charged. He bought a new battery, and he had the same issue. The battery would be drained faster and faster, charges would take longer and longer. Ultimately, at one point, he found it could not be turned on. This is his account of what happened, so I'm not sure it's 100% what happened.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Laptop: power problems

Sounds very much like the cmos/bios battery is dead.
I have seen this happen many times.
If it is soldered in, then you are out of luck.
Sometimes leaving the laptop on charge for 24 hours can re-charge this little battery, and you may get it re-started.

I had a Tecra A4 laptop before which comes with Toshiba Power Saver utility which can control the brightness and various power profiles for Windows. I now have L40-17R laptop, which I cannot find the same utility for???

Can anyone tell me if there is a tool for managing power profiles for L40-17R model, and where can I download it?

As you know for WXP Toshiba has offered Toshiba Power Saver utility but for Vista this tool does not exist in the same format. Many functions are now in Vista power settings. Toshiba Power Saver utility is also there but just with several options.

You can find it if you open Power options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. There you will find Toshiba Power Saver Settings V8.02.00.

Answer:Is there a Toshiba Power Saver for Satellite M45 with Vista

You are right about Vista support. As far as I know there is no ?universal? power saver version but in my opinion you do not need it at all. Power saver tool for Vista does not look like old version and under Vista many settings have been taken over Vista itself.

Because of that I am pretty sure you do not need it at all. Be happy that Vista works well on your Satellite notebook. Optimize OS and enjoy it.

How do I disable the Hibernation feature ?

The box 'Enable Hibernation' is ticked and greyed so I cannot untick it !
I don't use this feature and would like to delete the file hiberfil.sys which is over 1GB.

I understand that by disabling Hibernation this file should delete. I read about it here:

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite P10-804: Toshiba Power Options - How to disable Hibernation

I presume the Toshiba Power saver utility was installed on your system.
In such case the Windows own power options are disabled and the TPS controls the hibernation and standby mode.

You can switch back to the window power mode in the control panel -> power options.
There you have to choose to another power scheme as the Toshiba power saver.
Otherwise you can remove the TPS from the system!

However, in my opinion the hiberfil.sys has no bad influence on the system and it's really not necessary to delete this file.
On my system the file size was never ever 1GB.

Toshiba Satellite A305 Laptop all original hardware

laptop electronics/electrical question:
I recently purchased a laptop (toshiba sattelite A305, sweet) that I have (recently) used before from a friend. I've since found that the power adapter theyve had plugged to it for who knows how long, was completely wrong and they had lost the old one and just plugged one up "that fit", Great.... (Com: toshiba 19v 3.95a...Power Adapter: Cannon 24v 2.2a probably a printer). I found this out after the Com started acting strangly slow and then wouldnt boot, stating that there was no hard drive found. I actually got it to boot one more time after this and havent since. So either the 24volts fried something or the 2.2 amps stressed something. I decided to get another hard drive and of couse to no avail. Still...... No hard drive found, check connections, blah blah blah. I plugged the old hard drive up to my desktop and it works fine. I checked the system setup and everthing is still there except the hard drive, even though it is installed correctly. Clock, Date, Ram, Video, Wireless, CD, everything works, can be seen in setup and hasnt changed. I set the defaults and still nothing. I tried the new drive and a new operating system (XP Pro is all I have right now, I will buy vista, which was on it, if I know I can make it work.) It loads windows setup but then same message......No Hard Drive.
So, Im sure youve guessed my question. I know the power supply isnt burnt ... Read more

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A305 (hard drive, Power?)

There isn't anywhere else you can get a new laptop motherboard for less than $300-$400. They're all that price.

If it did visibly fry something then it would be a transistor or capacitor close to the power source. It's much more likely that it simply destroyed the hard drive controller on the board and that you won't actually see anything.

I first noticed that when I was on AC power, the battery would start discharging, and the charge light would be off. So I shut down, took the battery out, and tried to restart on AC. It would start the boot process, run for less then 10 seconds, and shut off. I would restart again, it would get about half way through the boot process, and shut down again. Then I would restart, and it would boot up fine, but shut down after a couple of hours.

I thought it was overheating, so I removed and cleaned the heat sink thoroughly, and made sure the fans are working right. No luck.

Now it gets really weird. I bought a new battery, installed it and let in charge overnight. The next day everything worked perfectly on AC for at least 10 hours, and I shut it down for the day. The following day, after running for several hours on AC, I noticed that the charge light was off, and the battery was discharging again. Shut it down, took the battery out, tried to restart, and had the same three times to a good boot up described above. It ran perfectly without the battery for several hours afterwards. I then reinstalled the battery, and for the moment, it's working fine. But I'm sure this will start again.

Anyone have a clue?

Answer:Weird Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 Power Problem

The power adapter sounds as if its on the way out, it's unable to supply the power needed for the laptop for long without cutting out. The charge light going off confirms that suspicion.

Hey there,

I have a Toshiba Satellite, A215-S5837. About 6 months ago my original adapter had died completely. So I had got a universal one. No problems up until recently. Now I had done some research before asking this question. I had looked up the prior thread located here.
As well as a few other places. The universal charger is not working now. I had my thoughts on the Jack as well however. its a pretty new computer, only about a 1.5 yrs old. Since its a Universal adapter I went and tried the adapter on my girlfriends laptop. Same problem, however when I plug my girlfriends charger into hers it works perfectly fine. No problems what so ever.
Now here is what worries me.

My Jack does get warm sometimes. but the Adapter gets very hot until my laptop is completely charged.
My computer recognizes that it is plugged in however the power light will flash between orange and blue while the battery will be orange regardless if its fully charged. If its fully charged it will be blue but when this happens it changes to orange and the screen dims.

These are the only problems that I have noticed thus far. Any suggestions or thoughts.? Maybe just buy a new charger? Time to replace the Jack and Charger?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

A friend of mine is going to New Zealand next week and will take his Toshiba Satellite laptop with him. I don't have the model number handy, unfortunately.

He's looking for a converter he can use for the wall power outlet. He will plug his AC adapter into the converter and that into the wall outlet so he can charge his laptop. He found a converter that is advised to NOT be used with electronic devices that use more than 25W and I'm thinking his laptop does. His laptop is 3-5 years old, probably leaning more toward 5 yrs.

I don't know what kind of power rating (voltage or wattage, I'm not good at this stuff) New Zealand has so I'm not sure what kind of conversion options he has. His laptop was purchased in the US.

Any tips or advice?

Answer:Question about Toshiba Satellite laptop and power conversion

Might want to look through this page.
Will probably need the transformer and an adapter plug.
Information about how much power is needed.
Might be easier if they picked one up after they get there.
They can be a bit heavy.

If your Notebook is properly installed it should work well. All delivered software was tested. The only reason for your problem can be some additional software that you installed later.

It is also possible that it can be caused by some Antivirus application. Maybe is some application running in background? There are lots of reasons who can be responsible for this issue.

If you reinstall your Notebook from ?Recovery CD? it will work properly. It is very unjustifiable to write about some bug-free versions. I have a few times problems with OS but almost always after using some freeware.

Since WXP Toshiba doesn?t offer power saver as separated tool. It is part of Toshiba value added package that Toshiba has created for Vista and modified for Win7.

I'm interested in the Toshiba G25 laptop but have heard that you can't use it on airplane seat power. It comes with a 120W AC power supply (15Vx8A), but I've been told that most airlines limit seat power to 75-90W max. Lind sells a 12V car adaptor for the G25, but specifically won't include an airline plug for this reason (which I can get independently, of course). I've read some interesting electrical discussions on this board. Can ya'll comment on the following or provide any general advice about power consumption?

1) Given that the voltage of the laptop and airline seat power pretty much match up (12-15V), if the amp draw on the laptop exceeds what the airline power supply can deliver, what will happen? Will it damage the laptop to feed it insufficient current? Will it shut down the laptop altogether? Merely dim the screen?

2) If I remove the laptop battery, which requires power to charge it, how much will that reduce the power need of the laptop? I'm not sure how to work the math, but the spec sheet states the battery supplies 4400mAh at 8A output. Does it require the same to charge it?

3) Most importantly, on my 15 hour transpacific flights, will the DVD player work with that ultrabrite screen at the low airline power supply? A nice feature of the laptop is that you can watch DVDs without powering up the Windows operating system (it has a small linux OS for the DVD player). Granted, the DVD drive and screen are prob... I have a laptop with Win 7 HP 32bit SP1, which doesnt boot at all, if the power cord (AC Adapter/Battery charger) is plugged in. Further if power cord is plugged in after booting, the system hangs / shuts down. It runs fine on safe mode. I believe it is a driver updation problem but not sure. I have updated all drivers given in Toshiba download site. Any suggestions?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L305 not bootable if power cord is plugged in

Hi ahimsasoldier, Welcome to the forums ,Have you access to a different AC adaptor ? that you can try to see if the one you are using is faulty
You say you have updated all the drivers from Toshiba website and you still have a problem did you check the Ram using "memtest" ?

i just bought my new Satelite, but now i see that the best tool from the former Satelite line is missing!
POWER SAVER! i'm running vista at the moment, but power saver does not exist so it seems!
I was wondering if that was indeed true, or it just does nog exist in my language!

If it does not exist, i would like to suggest it to Toshiba, to bring it back, but it was a most usefull tool, mutch better then the one that is standard on windows vista!
If anyone has a solution, i would be glad to hear from you ofcourse!

PS i tried installing the version for windows XP witch i downloaded from the Toshiba site, but it does not work on Vista ofcourse!

Answer:Toshiba Power Saver on Satellite A300-PSAGCE with Vista OS

Power saver is installed under Vista too and you can find it under:
Start ? Control Panel ? System & Maintenance ? Power Options > ?Select a Power Plan? ? Change plan settings ? Change advanced power settings ? Toshiba Power Saver Settings

As you can see the settings are not like before under WXP. The fact is that most of settings are now controlled by Vista and Toshiba power saver has no much influence in power settings like before.

I have a Satellite A660-11M and I work on Windows 7 Ultimate

The problem is that I have download all drivers and updates but the toshiba power saver does not work its installed with no error and TPSLaunch (green icon) does not open when I click on it and no icon I found in the control panel for the program afterIi install all the Value Added Package!

Answer:Satellite A660-11M on Windows 7 - Toshiba Power Saver does not work

Toshiba Power Saver is only for XP installations, you can't install the XP Drivers (and most Vista Drivers) in Windows 7.

Make sure all your drivers are for the A660, and make sure they are for Windows 7.

I don?t know how did you install the Toshiba tools but after the OS installation you have to install the chipset utility and then the Toshiba common modules. After the installation of 2 important drivers follow the installation with display driver etc

Hello all. First post so bear with me. Thanks.

Here's the situation. I'm replacing the internals on a brand new Toshiba Satellite Pro L630 after it was doused in sweet tea. I was able to procure a new mobo and USB/Card reader board for about half the price of the laptop, and the cleaning/replacement went smoothly. Here's the rub though:

-Brand new Mobo
-Brand new card reader/USB board
-Brand new connectors

Computer accepts power, and shows powered on. Even boots. However, as soon as the USB board is plugged in, the entire rig looses power until it is unplugged and reset with the power button. Odder still, even though the old board acts a bit odd (keeps trying to turn the computer on as soon as it's plugged in), it behaves the same way. Old and new USB boards both cause the board to lose power.

I've done full electrical testing, and even though the power circuits show full power at the DC in jack, the board drops to half power and then loses it completely as soon as either USB board is plugged. Both boards behave the same even when nothing else is connected except for the USB board.

Completely lost at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:No power to Toshiba Satellite L630 after replacing mobo and USB ports

The replacement motherboard is probably bad. Have I ever bought bad motherboards? YES! Both for laptops and desktops...

When I bought my L300-17l all drivers from Toshiba drivers download pafe worked ok.
Recently I reinstalled my XP OS and now I started installing again all the drivers. LAN was ok, WLAN was ok, Display driver was ok.

But when I get to install Toshiba Power Saver ( URL: [] ) it gives me this error ( it shows the error either after I click finish on the instalation or before installing has begun, as you can see on this screenshot ) - []

I tried later this - i go ot control panel and open Toshiba Power Saver, but then it gives me another error - " CANNOT open because you do not have access rights to use "TOSHIBA Power Saver".
I reinstalled again my XP and it still gives me this error....I wonder what the problem could be....PLS help me

Answer:Re: Satellite L300-17l - Toshiba Power Saver gives me error after install

Satellite L300-17L belongs to the PSLBCE series.
I chosen this model number and found exactly the same power saver which you have tried to install.
Therefore I assume you have chosen the right Power Saver Utility for this notebook model.

But did you install also the Common Module?
This software should be installed firstly before any other tools installation.
Did you update the Win XP to the latest state?

Check this!

I am asking, because, I guess, that TPS from .eu toshiba site is pretty old and my laptop came with a newer one. Am I wrong?

Answer:Satellite A500-1GL - Latest Toshiba power saver version

Why is the version so important for you?
Important is that everything works properly and notebook saves energy if it runs with low CPU usage.

What operating system you have exactly?
If you use Windows 7 or Vista, Power Saver is a part of Value Added Package.

Hi everybody,

I do have a terrible problem with my notebook. It won't turn on. I had to press with all my power the power button for getting it to run.

The Chronology of my problem:
Initially it turned on when I pressed with a lot of force. But now it is not possible to bring energy in it. The power supply unit is functioning and the green light, which stands for power in the device, is permantly gleaming. I don't have a battery in use.

Only the notebook will not run.

So who can help me? How can I solve the problem by myself in order to avoid high costs?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Toshiba satellite 1900 won't turn on. Power button is probably defect.

in my opinion it is impossible to repair this problem of your own because you didn't have the expierence and you can't order special parts!

It can also be that not only the power button is damaged but also other parts!

So please contact a Toshiba Service Partner!

hello everybody!
I've just installed Vista on my laptop (originally i had Win xp on it)
First i have installed video drivers from
Then I've installed bios update and toshiba value added package.
But toshiba power manager doesn't work!
Vista uses only its tools to manage battery.
Can you help me?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite A100: Toshiba Power Manager doesn't work

Why do you suggest that the Power Saver doesn?t work correctly?
Do you get any error messages or what?

The Toshiba power saver for Vista is not the same like for the Win XP.
You can find some additional options in the Vista Power options!!!

There you can choose an between 3 different power option.
Choose one and click on the link below ?change the Power options?

The new window should appear and there you can click on the link called ?Change Advanced Power settings?.
In new window you could see the Toshiba Power Saver settings.

Model:- PSPE8A-025002

OS:- Windows7 Ultimate (32bit)

On Windows Start up I get a service stopped notification - "TOSHIBA Power Saver service has been stopped so settings cannot be changed."
This is the only issue other than the known Windows 7 change in behaviour where the Eco Power Saver side button no longer works but by the usual Control Panel/Power Options I can select and change Power plans as normal. So this is just an annoying pop up on start up.

Advice on preventing the annoying notification welcome.

I have A100-599 with Vista pre-installed. As you know there is Toshiba Power Saver bundled with vista mobile power settings. Not always, but sometimes when I turn on the computer and windows starts I get this message "Toshiba Power Saver service couldn't start".

When I checked in Control Panel->System->Services if the service indeed off I saw that it did start and is running.

Can someone tell me why this message sometimes pops up? Is it a software issue or may be there is a problem with the hardware?

Answer:Satellite A100-599: Toshiba Power Saver service couldn't start

The simplest way to solve this issue is to recover the OS with the Toshiba recovery CD.
In this case all programs and the whole OS should works without any problems.
You have suggested that you have the recovery CD. Use it.
Before you will start this procedure, make a backup of your all important files

Answer:Toshiba Satellite CDT4070 power on problem - orange led flashes 8 times ...

Hi there,

I assume that the "0100101010"-code should be some kind of error code, but I am not sure. But even if it is one you wouldn?t get information about it since such technical information are preserved for toshiba technicians, I guess. :)

So, in this case, you cannot do anything and just ask some notebook technician/authorized service center for a hardware checkup or a repair.

Sorry mate, but thats it.

Hello everyone,

recently switched to Windows Vista with my Satellite M30X.
Unfortunately I cannot manage my power options, because Windows doesn't let me to do so with reference to using original Toshiba power tools instead, but those I received along with my laptop are not compatible with Vista.
There are no files available in this category on Toshiba download site.

Do you have any ideas where to get these tools? Either Toshiba or something different, but still compatible with Toshiba and Vista?
Or at least how to enable inbuilt advanced power management options in Windows?

Thanks a lot for any advice!

Answer:Need Toshiba power management tools for Windows Vista on Satellite M30X

The Toshiba Power saver for Vista was not released for Satellite M30X and it looks like you have to use the Vista own power options.
But to be honest the Vista own power options are not bad and could be configured easily.

Best regards

Hi all,

My Toshiba Satellite A30-871 notebook has started discharging the battery whilst the mains power supply is connected (The LED shows that AC is connected but Laptop consumes battery power instead of charging battery and using AC power). When the battery reaches 0% laptop will switch off. Removing the power plug and reconnecting does not solve the problem while the computer is ON, only shutting down computer starts the battery to charge. Which means that I can use laptop as long as battery retains some power. Sometimes when the notebook is off and battery is being charged, battery charging LED starts to blink and I have to remove the power jack and plug it back.

I don''t think its a loose power connector because the light shows the power is connected.

I wonder if anyone got a solution for me.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S109 Laptop with expired warranty. A few weeks ago, it stopped working all of a sudden. When I turn it on, the fan starts to work for a few seconds and then it stops. The laptop doesn?t boot up nor does the LCD lit up. I had a friend, who is a technician, check the laptop. He checked it and said that everything else (hard drive, mother board, LCD, etc..) is fine, the only problem with the laptop is that its Power Supply don?t work. He couldn?t find the Power Supply repair part, thus wasn?t able to fix it. Now the laptop is back in my home unfixed. He advised me to buy a power supply part and he can put it in the laptop and the laptop will be fine. I don?t know the part # of the power supply. He said I should contact Toshiba but my warranty is expired. Another friend suggested I should buy a similar model non working laptop and take out its power supply and fix my laptop.

Can any body advise as what my next step should be. I am willing to spend up to $150 on this laptop but not more than that.

Thanks in advance.
