Solved: How can I create a searchable magazine story index?

Question: Solved: How can I create a searchable magazine story index?

I've been struggling with this for over a year now. I have hundreds of model railroad magazines that I need to build a database for in order to type in a subject and have the program point to a specific issue for quick reference. I've tried to figure out how to do it with Excel or Access, but just haven't got the smarts for setting it up and getting it working.

I can't seem to find a freeware software program online either for doing this. I know you can't recommend any. Is there anyone out there who can offer any suggestions for something that will work?

Preferred Solution: Solved: How can I create a searchable magazine story index?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Seems there must be some program out there that will create a searchable Explorer-like document (such as html) of the contents of an external USB drive. Anyone know? I can already create lists but I am looking for something as described above.

I'm using Brothers Keeper and want to creat an everyname index. The program is designed to do this but it isn't what I want. It lists every name but uses the surname for each listing. Ex:
Smith, Bart
Smith, Charles
Smith, James
and so on. This is the same if I use the "index & Tables" procedure in Word.
I want it to use the surname only ONCE. Ex:
Smith,
Bart
Charles
James
Any one know of a way this can be done?

Answer:create an index in word 97

I don't know "Brothers Keeper". However, Word CAN do it "surname only ONCE" if you mark eg: "Smith" as "Main Entry" & "Bart", "Charles", "James" as "Subentry".

I use Windows Office 2000 in XP for my text documents.Because I am interested in genealogy my documents become long and are heavily laden with names. I want to create an Index of these names, and click the Show/Hide button as instructed in Windows Help, to monitor which names are already in the Index as I progress through the document building the Index. Thus I have pages with lots of Show added text in brackets confirming a particular name is already in the Index. As I progress building the Index, further text on later pages starts to get pushed down the document. So by about page eight or so the original text entries have gone over to page nine although the original name was on page eight. I thus get a false page number entry with a new name when entered into the Index. It is accumulative and gets worse as I get further down the document text. There must be a way around this. Can anyone help please ?

I'm trying to build an index for a long book (200,000 words). I don't think my computer will handle doing this if the book is all in one file. Word Help talks about indexing by using referenced documents, or RD fields. Right now I have the book stored in separate chapters, each with correct pagination (so the pagination is continuous throughout the book).

I can't get the RD indexing feature to work, but get a message that Word can't locate the referenced documents. I've entered RD fields that look like:

{ RD C:\\Documents\\Chapter 1.doc }

but this doesn't work.

Many thanks for any help!

I have excel workbook containing multiple worksheets. I want to insert a new worksheet in the workbook to contain index of all the worksheets contained in the workbook. I dont have a list of all the worksheets in the work book, therefore need a way to create Hyperlink and list of worksheets from the tabs in this document...is this possible? thanks.

Answer:create hyperlinked index to excel tabs

The following code (which I didn't write) will do what you've asked.I offered the other suggestion just it case it fit your needs. In any case, paste this code into the VBA editor and run it.I suggest you try it in a backup copy of your workbook since workbooks can not be undone.Again, I didn't write it, but I've used it and it works as advertised. If you add new sheets or change names, just run it again and it will delete the old Table of Contents (after asking) and create a new one.

I have a number of technical documents that are currently unwieldy to find things in. One solution is to have the network drive indexed, but getting that working for a host of people in different locations could be difficult.

I was instead going to create a master index that pulls just the contents from each of the separate documents into one; obviously less functional than searching the entire documents but it should still do the job of allowing people to find important releases.

I can do this manually, and have done, but then the formatting is rubbish and there is no way to alter every line across all 80 pages at once.

Is there a better way of combining the contents pages, and if not then is there a good way of formatting quickly?

I'm thinking of making a python script to do it but if there's another way to do it I'd like to know. Master documents don't seem to do what I want?

Answer:Create a master index from the contents pages of several documents

Have you considered a Help Authoring Tool such as RoboHelp or MadCap?

Create a project with each document as a chapter, then index the entire project.

Just a thought.

My wife is the photographer but can't cope with a PC.I keep her pictures and create CDs for her to take to Jessops (no way am I going to spend hours running off 100s of 6x4s) and I also enlarge some. All very basic.Ideally she would like some form of index print - I envisage mini thumnnails on A4 paper. Can anyone suggest a simple programm (preferably free) that will do this without trying to muscle in on the rest of my picture files - I tried and deleted ACDSee because of this.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section - I wasn't sure where to post.

I am trying to view a website:

http://www.sweetteathemagazine.com/

I can go to the homepage but when I click on "view magazine." A page loads with a pale blue background and I can see the buttons to turn pages but there is no content. Adobe Flash is up to date and I can't figure this out. I asked a couple of friends to see if they could access the magazine and they did with no problem. I've tried with IE and Firefox (both up to date) but still can't view.

I was mailed a copy of this magazine but want to go read back issues.

Thanks for your help.

I had Win. 2k and i started to have problems with it after about 3 years. I kept getting errors and i posted them on here. No one seemed to be able to help so i finally decided to reformat and upgrade to XP while i was at it. Well during the install, i would get some error codes with numbers and when i looked them up, it came up with "bad RAM". Microsoft's website solution said to take one of my RAM sticks out at a time and see which one was bad. So i took one out and it seemed to work. I went on with the install. Everything seemed to be running ok from there. i played with it for a while trying to see if the same problem as before came up. Nothing. So now I have a fresh start. Now I install the drivers that came with the motherboard (audio etc...) This is the only thing that i have installed. I run it like this for a while. Now when i browse the web, IExplorer causes an error and shuts down. I hit the send report button and then i get a page from microsoft that says that i have a "problem with a driver". It doesn't tell me which driver or anything. I did all the windows updates and i would still get this error. It gets to the point where my computer will restart itself. So i reformatted again... Again, everything is good until i install the motherboards factory drivers. So this leads to me asking if something is wrong with my motherboard because it only seems to be doing this after i install the motherboard's drivers. The motherboard is an ... Read more

The last month or so I have been getting bizarre emails, always from a completely different email address, and all of them sounding like strange stories, somehow unfinished or odd. Anybody else get these/know anything about these? Here is a copy of one email and some of the addresses that they come from. There is also a file attached which I naturally never open. The attachment is a .gif file, something like glib.gif
All this is happening on my work email and I have tried and tried to get our tech guys on it but they remain mute. My husband, who works at the same place, also gets these emails.

While researching my new lap top and vista I have found that vista home premium comes with photo story 3 but not as it was in my xp download the comments ive been able to find are that the features have been split and reduced. One of the features i love about photo story 3 is the panning zooming effect that you can manually set. Does it do this to the same minute degree with which photo story 3 for xp can zoom down to.

Here is long story, I hope it can be of some help.
I just got a Sitecom Wireless Network Broadband Router. It does not have a modem incorporated of course, because I already have a modem. SO I connected the modem to the router and then the router to the PC as described in the manual, went through all the setup process, but to no avail.

All the LEDs are flashing on the router, the Lan seems to be getting signl, but when I try a webpage or messenger, it lags or gives me the can't find server message.

My laptop receives the signal but does the same thing, I tried fiddling around with dns numbers and Ip numbers, bu honestly I dont know what Im doing.

As soon as I disconnect the dsl cable and leave the modem usb cable in or switch the dsl feed exclusively back to the modem, internet returns, so it has to be the router's problem...

the pc:
winxp home
sp2
amd athlon xp2000+
1.66ghz
224mb

This problem of mine is occurring here in Italy, where nothing is at it seems so beware he he he.
thank you very much for anyone's time...

I made a story in Photo Story 3, when I go to play it, it uses a player named ultra and NOT WMP 11 i have on here, is there a way to make WMP 11 the default"?

When it does play in ultra, thers music no pictures

Thanks

Answer:Solved: Photo Story 3 wrong default player

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the story file that you created, right click on it and select "open with", then select "choose program"

Select WMP and check the box "always use this application.." and it will permanently associate that file type with WMP (unless you later change it as above).

The instructions above assume XP, as you don't give any clue as to what Windows Version.

well; 3 months ago, i baught all the parts to a new pc, finnaly after half the pieces didnt work, i got everything back, but didnt get a chance to get widows 7 so i was runnng a live ubuntu copy. Anyways, after being childish, a leaned m chair on 2 legs, fell, my arm hit my pc, and it fell off the desk. Nothing appear broken, like no parts folling in the case, it wasnt a far drop (a foot) landed of a stack of blankets/bed, so im like alrighty, this is ok. Once i heard funny noises from my cd drive, i opened it up, and the cd slipped up so it was destroyed from the scratches. Now, my computer keeps getting stuck at "Verrifing DMI Pool data...." right before the "System boot falure, instert system disk and press enter" message should pop up.

Anyways, i go my windows here, and reallly would like to get off this 8 year old clunker.

All input will be tressured

Answer:Solved: Verifing DMI Pool data...(intesesting Story)

DMI is a list of devices available to the BIOs

Sounds to me like the fall might have knocked something loose and it therefore is not finding a drive to boot from...

From your description it was hard to tell if you were still running of the live cd or an installed OS Partition.

This might sound like a stupid question but if you are still running a live cd did you replace the disc? I know you said it got trashed and well, without it you wouldnt have an OS....

Secondly, Id check your drive connections. Make sure they are in firmly both to the drive and the MOBO.

and Finally, double check your bios boot order settings... It may be trying to boot from a disc with nothing on it...

Id try that first, beyond that, if it doesnt work, check back but Im out of ideas without a more clear picture of what you are/arent currently running and what is happening... Too much competing information (Live disc vs Win7, Stuck at Verifying DMI vs System Boot failure, etc)

I get 0 results when I search "Help and Support." I upgraded from Vista to 7 (64 bit) a few weeks ago and I just noticed this problem. Since I don't use Help and Support very often so I don't know if the problem occurred with the upgrade or later.

The search results also say, "You're not connected to online Help..."

I've tried obvious searches such as "printers," "control panel," etc and I still get zero results.

I have a new W7 Home Premium 64 bit machine.

I added a new internal 2 TB HDD (assigned drive letter "A") and indexed it but still when I search for a file (a video file because that is all the drive contains) it does not appear in the results. I checked the file types that are searched for under indexing/advanced for the drive in question and the file type box is checked so it should be looked for and it seems to me it should be found.

I've migrated from XP and the learning curve seems steep, though I am just a freiman and not an IT guy, but wow there are a lot of differences in W7

Anyways, I've included a couple of screen shots if it helps.

Answer:New drive not searchable

Go to Computer locate the drive (A:) right click select properties on the check the box "Allow Files on this drive to have content indexed in additional to file properties" This will index the whole drive.

A friend of mine does the schedule where she works and is looking to make her life easier. She needs a calendar program that will allow her to put the employee's names in the cells and then be able to search the cells by their names. I really don't know exactly what she wants, but I figured that there had to be some [H] calendar program out there that would accomplish pretty much whatever she could want. Free is the best (obviously), but she may be willing to pay for software that can do what she wants.

Anyone know of anything that might work?

Hello,
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I have 4 internal independent harddrives. Whenever I search for something, one of these hdd's, D, is omitted from the search. I opened up disc management, and noticed that D is dynamic, while all the others are basic.
What's the difference between basic and dynamic? It looks like you can make a basic disc dynamic, but not vice versa.
Is there a way to make D searchable? I like to search all the hdd's at once from the start menu.

Thank you in advance!

Ok appreciate any help as this is driving me nuts - here goes as best I can

Got a new PC with the hard drive formatted but no OS so I installed Win XP with no problems. Everything fine until one day the PC wouldnt boot 'Read Disk Error' or something along those line during the POST sequence. So tried to reinstall Win XP but the funny thing is that even though my HD is 160gb (BIOS still confirmed this) from the XP disk it said I only had 131gb disk - Wierd.
Anyway installed XP but somehow I had lost 29gb of disk.

New hard drive sent to me

Installed the HD got the Win XP to boot the PC and again 131gb disk - How? this is a brand new 160gb HD out of a sealed bag.
I installed it and in the Management part of XP there was a 26gb disk unformatted - formatted this but have had problems with the system just shutting down so yet again I reformatted and arrrgghh only 131gb to install to and now the 26gb doesnt even show up in windows.

I tried Fdisk but it couldnt read the disk as it said it was NTFS or too large or something - couldnt format in Fat32 cos the Win XP boot cd wouldnt give me the option.

I have tried installing XP, using SP1, using the Win fixes for large disk support, downloading Maxblast formt he Maxtor site (tells me ihave a 160gb disk just like BIOS still says)

Appreciate that the above is a bit long but I just dont know what else to do so any help would be appreciated.

Also when I moved files from C drive to it they were copied, not moved. I didnt copy and then paste, though thats more like what occured, but rather I dragged and dropped but the files werent moved they were copied.

What is this all about? The drive and everything in it is shared with everyone. This sharing thing in W7 is a colossal boondogle.

To move instead of copy just use shift and drag.

As to why it is not indexed. Did you add the whole drive to the indexing in your control panel?

I am interested in making a site with a searchable photo album. My question is how do I go about doing so? I know I need to somehow give each picture key words and probably use a database of some sort. If I'm able to, I would like to be able to make search menu have several option (ie: year, general discription/key word, topic etc.). Would I be able to do this in Frontpage? The results would then need to show up in a sort of thumbnail album. Any advise you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Searchable Photo Album

Probably the easiest way is to sign up for a Fotopic account. click hereYou upload the images then you can add descriptive text etc. and the link to put on your website would be the fotopic address.

I have a website which aims to record the memorials and graves of men of the Yorkshire Regiment who lost their lives in the First World war.It is essential that before the website is fully usable that it includes a searchable database, such that a visitor can look for a family name and find out all the occurrences of memorials related to that name.My problem is that I need education on how to effect this. At the moment the raw data is being put into an Excel spreadsheet. Are there any books or websites that somebody could recommend to me which would give me some idea as to how to set about this task?

Do that in Excel. Then either [a] learn how to build a MySQL database click here and add a PHP search engine click here, [b] employ a professional or [c] invest in decent software. These numbers are ALL unique. When I type in an order number, it pulls this order up in a printable format. How can I do this?

I tend to let others use my computer resources but I don't always want all my files to be quite so in your face when I am making a recording or letting other people control my mouse and keyboard. I don't need fort knox level security... I don't need the folders completely unsearchable or have a pass code on them, but when I search the parent folder I don't want it to show up unless I search for it exactly by name, the same way RegEdit wouldn't show up. The folders mostly contain things like personal records, portfolio work, etc. Not bad or "safe" worthy but certainly not something I want to be showing people how to find if its not important, either.

If there is a way to do this I would love to know! Thanks

Answer:is there a way to make a folder only searchable by exact name?

Tampering with search results is for sure not a good way to ensure privacy. For one, since the built-in search has been totally crippled and is unreliable, so playing with it will not yield any good result. Third party search programs may still find everything, and most important, just simply browsing into the document's folders they'll reach all files.

The proper way to ensure privacy is using multiple user accounts, that Windows has ample support for. Create a second user account (or just enable the built-in guest), and point other people to use that instead. Don't bother setting a strong password for it, you'll be revealing it anyway. Make sure you leave it as a standard account.

Then you use your normal account for your own work, save all the private files into your own document folders, and when letting others use the computer, just logoff or switch users. Under the limited account, they'll only have access to their documents, not yours (due to restricted permissions). In addition, you get the added benefit that they can change the settings as they please, without affecting your own environment.

Try UK's Kalender.  It's a calendar program that lives in the system tray.  I couldn't do without this program when I was on Windows.  I never used the search feature though, so I can't say how good it is.  If you want to try it, there is a portable version which you can unzip anywhere.  If you don't like it, just delete its folder and it's gone.

Hello,

I am having an issue where you can search my personal files including emails on other Vista accounts, and I definitely do not want this. I have three user accounts total, but when I login to "User 1" right click on the folder in question, go to security and look, there are multiple accounts listed. They are: 1) CREATOR OWNER 2) SYSTEM 3) "User 1" 4) "User 2" and the last one 5) Administrators. I want to be able to see/access the files in question from "User 1" ONLY. I tried adjusting the permissions under this section, and I locked myself out. I have since gotten that fixed, but how do I accomplish making this particular folder completely private?

Thank you.

Answer:Emails and Files Searchable by Other Users

Hi,

That box will sort your out:

SYSTEM: Full Control ALLOW

USER 1: Full Control ALLOW

USER 2: Full Control DENY

USER 3: Full Control DENY

Remove the Administrator reference.

NOTE: There is a small tool to corrupt all the permissions of a file/folder, so if any of the other users can hack proficiently, then this is not enough.

Hi:

In digitizing my life, I'm starting to scan all documents to .pdf format. However, I can't currently use Windows Search to find them based on their content. I'd like to know how I can scan a document to .pdf in a way that Windows Search can find based on the words within them - and not just the document title.

Adobe Acrobat Pro can create documents that can be searched this way but I don't want to spend the $. And Acrobat Reader only has the ability to search on words within a document only.

If I scan to OCR and save as a .tiff or .bmp, Windows Search can then find the file based on the words within them. But scanning to .pdf with with my printer software doesn't create a "PDF searchable image" that finds the text within.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

I am doing a project at work where my boss want a spread sheet set up with an on screen search feature. To search PO's, part numbers etc. I thought no problem, I simply used VLOOKUP on the sheet, entered the information he wanted and I am thinking i am done. But NO, he wants it to start searching as soon as he types in a PO or part number. So say there are 100 part numbers that start with "4". He wants it to start showing "possibilities" as soon as he types in the 4, then it starts narrowing down to the exact number.

Not sure I am explaining it clear enough. I know exactly what he is wanting. I just dont know what it is called, or find any code online to do it with.

Anyone got any ideas?

Question: Solved: index.dat

was just wondering... does vista/windows7 still have the index.dat files? when i was using xp i used a program (index.dat suite) to remove them. are they still there and if so how do i get rid of them in vista?

Answer:Solved: index.dat

Q. Index.dat Suite is not deleting the files on Vista, help!
A. Vista is unfortunately, known to be a pain when it comes to allowing Index.dat Suite to do it's job properly. As such, please follow the steps below;

1. Right click the Index.dat Suite icon (NOT the automatic icon) and select "Run As Administrator"
2. Click Tools > Settings > Batch File
3. Tick "Add file to WinLogon Shell registry key after file file generation"
4. Click Save to close the settings
5. Click Find

Once the search has finished, please click the second button from the left on the toolbar, and re-start the computer when prompted.

I am working on re-writing the program so that these steps are no longer necessary as I don't generally like recommending the use of the WinLogon key, this is only recommended when the usual methods have not worked. Please be aware, one or two users have reported an issue when using this method;

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you ran Iolo System Mechanic to "fix" the hard drive, but using it (or any other utility of this nature) is a good way to trash the Windows operating system.

I strongly suggest you delete the Index.dat viewer ASAP because it has SuperWebSearch, a variant of CoolWebSearch bundled up in the program. In the upper right hand corner of the Index.dat viewer program you will see a SuperWebSearch Toolbar looking right at you.

aarhus2004 and myself where both infected by this scumware program and it will install 5 entries of CoolWebSearch immediately. Run HijackThis to verifiy that you have it then run CWShredder to remove it.

Hi,

I have attached a sample. I'm trying to work out the value of various photocopiers based on what percentage of their useful life has passed. The value is determined by how many copies they have made, compared to their total expected number of copies over their lifespan, multiplied by their cost. There are several different models of copier, and I have an enormous list of them, so I need the formula to look at what the model is, and what that respective machines copies are, compare it to the total and do the sum I described earlier.

Thanks for any help!

can anyone suggest a solution please.?
It would probably be clearer if I give an example of what I want to achieve as my programming knowledge is zero.!

What I need is a simple webpage search facility that I could set up with say 5 or more question tick boxes or yes/no type answers . Once an enquirer had answered all the questions they would be left with all the options that fitted their needs .

Lets take an example, suppose a used car dealer had 100 used cars for sale . Online customers wanted to search for their 'perfect car' but didn't want to laboriously search through 100 spec sheets for every vehicle the dealer has in stock.

The searcher might enter.
1. Colour choice ?
2. Petrol or diesel engine ?
3. A/C required ?
4. Sunroof yes/no ?
etc etc .
After answering all the questions the software would show him all the vehicles in stock that would meet his requirements.
If there were too few cars that met his requirements the searcher could then modify his requirements for another search to get better results.

so i was trying to update my motherboard drivers and it kept saying i had to get rid of the existing drivers, even when i did that it still wouldnt install the new on and would say the same thing. so i deleted all the files starting with "nv" out of my system32 folder, as was recommended by someone, then i rebooted and tried to reinstall the drivers. same thing, didnt work, so i deleted them again, then i installed the drivers before rebooting. success! i rebooted after that, upon reboot i get a black screen that says something along the lines of "nvatabus.sys missing or corrupt" so i do the recovery cd to repair it and start over, well i dont think it repaired, i thing it just recovered to the original, but i noticed when i searched for my old stuff, i can find everything, but only when i search it, it says its there, but it isnt and i cant open it when i click on it from the search area cause it says "windows.0\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.5072\mscorwks.dll could not be loaded"

so are these files on my computer still or whats the deal? can i open them? theyre obviously taking up the space.

I currently use Norton cloud storage but I'd like to backup to DVDs instead. Does all backup software have the convenience of search-ability? It's a pleasure to restore exactly a file specified, and only that file - that's what I mean by search-ability.
Thank you in advance for sage recommendations or advice!

Answer:What backup software is complete and has searchable file restore?

I assume you are referring to data backup, not Windows backup.

Any ordinary data backup I have seen can be viewed in Explorer and searched on a folder by folder or file by file basis.

But I'd use hard drives and avoid DVD burns.

Why have you chosen DVDs?

Hello,

The problem I have is that I am pulling a hyperlink location from a list based on a query, however the hyperlink does not connect to the webpage doc. Here is the string I am using:
=INDEX(Table1,MATCH(1,(location!B2:B49=C7)*(location!C2:C49=D7),0),3)

Table1 has 3 columns, Product-Document-Location. The user types the desired Product into cell C7, the Doc into cell D7. The program matches the selection to Table1 and inserts the document link into the cell B12(where the call is). I get the hyperlink address, it is blue and underlined, but it is not click-able. How do I make it go to the page when I click on it?

I have tried HYPERLINK but when ever I add it to the string above, the lookup no longer works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Solved: Index-Match & Hyperlink

Well it seems I was to fast on the trigger. I figured it out and its nice. Thanks for the consideration.
Here is what I did.
=HYPERLINK(INDEX(Table1,MATCH(1,(location!B2:B52=C7)*(location!C2:C52=D7),0),3),C7&" "&D7)

Cool part is that by using the &in the hyperlink it displays the name of the file rather than the link.

I've have posted this new problem recently on my computer running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x86 on my system.

It's been sometime since I last posted about my BSOD problem and this new problem came up to me. If I recall, all I know that there was an "APC Index Mismatch" that was outputted on my STOP error. I didn't capture the rest of the STOP codes though.

I've recently upgraded my hard drive to 3TB (which I use as storage, and not for the OS uses) along with upgrading to 4GB more of RAM.

I've did a spyware/malware scan along with an antivirus scan, but nothing came through.

In addition, I've did some analysis on my BSOD error using this link here. The full monty is attached in this thread.

Anyways, what are the common problems in which APC Index Mismatch errors occur? This problem is very unique to me and to my computer setup. If anyone wants to know my specifications:

- Asus M2A-VM Motherboard
- AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ dual-core processor
- 6GB DDR2 PC2-5300 Memory
- ATI Radeon X1250 integrated graphics
- BIOS: Pheonix Technologies LTD BIOS, Asus M2A-VM ACPI BIOS Revision 0302, dated 03/07/2007
- Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x86

I've last reinstalled the OS back in May 2012. I'm currently considering installing the x64 version - to support the high memory capacities.

How do I prevent the APC Index Mismatch errors from popping up again?

Answer:[SOLVED] BSOD - APC Index Mismatch

Your crash reports indicate a possible problem with your Windows installation. Please download and run the MGA Diag Tool. When it finishes, hit the copy button, and paste in your next post with
<MGADiag info>
surrounding the MGADiag info.

Hope someone can help - I've run out of ideas

Running WinXP Pro have an error on my boot drive (c - appears to be an index error
Run Chkdsk in Windows mode (without the /f option) and get message
'correcting error in index $0 for file 25.'
Of course nothing is corrected because the /f option not selected
Run Chkdsk with /f option - schedules execution upon reboot
Restart system CHKDSK runs and continually loops into trying to correct index $0 for file 25.

Downloaded the Western Digital Lifeguard Diagnostics
created boot diagnostic diskette
booted from floppy drive
ran quick and extended diagnostics and both complete with no errors detected.
(so no physical errors on the drive)

This is not debilitating windows still boots, sometimes slows down dramatically (presume this is when I'm getting disk errors).
Only other symptom is wuault.exe (windows automatic update) is having a fit with constant errors. I closed wuault.exe and it restarts then has immediate errors. So I disabled wuault.exe (set to manual start with services.msc)

This is of course not a good thing and something I would like to correct.

Other actions I've tried
Windows Defragmentor - completed successfully
Tried to copy the boot partition to the other hard drive using PartionMagic 8 - didn't complete due to errors in source partition.

Anybody have any ideas how I can fix or eliminate this problem?

Recently I have been getting IE popups saying Cannot find 'file ///C:/Windows/privacy_danger/index.htm'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.

My desktop is pure white (it should't be). The popups usually come in a series, but always the same one.

It is a Compaq Presario computer and I am running XP Home Edition

I am unsure whether this is malware or not......please advise if I should be in a different forum.

Hi I just have a question. Right now my Windows experience index is rating 7.5 and I'm more than happy with my computer the thing is 2 days ago I had 8GB ram DDR3 running at 1600mhz and ram index was 7.6. I installed 2 more slots with an extra 8 GB ram and the index goes to 7.7 which seems like a really small increase compared to what it's supposed to be in reality.

Anyways my question is if windows experience index is reliable or(considering reliability isn't at question here) there's another reason why the increase was so small?

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows experience index

The Highest is 7.9 the lowest is 1.0. It is measured also on read, buffer, bandwidth, and other measurements of CPU, RAM, and others. I believe that the index is not important as long as your rig does the job.

Here is more information. Windows Experience Index - Microsoft Windows

Hello Tech Support People!

I'm having difficulty trying to come up with a formula that would give me the following results based on the excel table I will be attaching with this message.

Basically I would like a formula that would search each row for an "A" which stands for "Absent". Then, if it does see an "A", then it will return the name of the Agent on Cell A22.

Then what I'm trying to do is using the value on A22, it will then do another search and check which dates did the agent on A22 incur an absence ("A"). If it sees an A on the record of the agent, then it will return the date. On the table pasted above, if the formula would be correct, then it will not return the name of Agent 1 and Agent 2 because they have not incurred any absences. The first value would then be Agent 3, and next to the name would be the first date the agent was absent, and then on the next cell to the right would be the next date the agent was absent again.

Can this be done with a formula instead of me relying on VBS? I would like to just use a formula.

Thanks so much! Hoping for all your assistance soon!
