Can't move my mouse, but computer is not frozen

Question: Can't move my mouse, but computer is not frozen

After going through lots of programs and cleaning out an infection, I restarted it and it is almost totally unusable. I can confirm that both mouse and keyboard work, mouse light is on, and keyboard lets me open the calculator. Any help please? Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Can't move my mouse, but computer is not frozen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can't move my mouse, but computer is not frozen

If the mouse is USB (not a PS/2 connection), try disconnecting and then reconnecting. You could also try a different USB port for the mouse.

Overview:
Hello, just yesterday, 4/8/10, I was watching Fullmetal Alchemist on animecrazy.net. I started a new episode, and the video was loading very very slowly. I tried several different links including myspace video, Rutube, and two different Megavideo links. All of the links were loading slowly, so I decided that I would just let one of the videos buffer (I picked Rutube), while I played Starcraft II beta.

I ran Starcraft II beta and went to get something to eat. By the time I came back about 5 minutes later, Starcraft II was still loading, which was very strange because it usually loads in seconds. Actually, it had not even started loading yet. The bar was still at 0%. I tried opening task manager but my computer froze. I tried Start --> restart, but my computer would not open start. I could still move my mouse, but clicking things did not do anything.

I hard restarted my computer by holding the power button and turning it back on and booted it into Normal Mode. Upon booting, it still had the same problems. I could move my mouse, but clicking things had no effect. Interestingly enough, I could mouse over Start and it would say "Click here to begin.", but clicking it had no effect. I hard restarted my computer again into Normal Mode, but it had the same problem. Next time, I tried hard restarting my computer into Safe Mode with command prompt, and it worked.

After that, I tried restarting and booting into Safe Mode with Networking, w... Read more

HP Pavilion XP purchased 2001. The problems is that when starting up the Pc the pointer fails to move. The only option is to re-start. Sometimes when re-starting, the CPU does not seem to start up and there is nothing on the monitor. Repeated re-starts sometimes cure if for a short time so can move pointer. But problems keeps recurring. diagnostic on mouse says working properly. done a system restore. done a disc check for errors. Done start up from last known configuration. Tried to change the mouse for another PS2 but still cannot move pointer to enter run command for the disc.

Please can anyone help

Well, my problem started about 2 days ago. I was playing a game when my computer froze but my mouse could move. Every application did not work and I had to restart my computer. It would happen 1 hour after I restart the computer or a few minutes. Does anyone know why?

Answer:computer when I move the mouse the cursor doe

Not much to go on. Please explain further. If this is just a sudden freeze of the mouse, try restarting, even if you have to do a forced restart, just make sure all of your work is saved (use keyboard shortcuts to save any open work, and restart, or if necessary, hold down the start button until it shuts down). If this is no mouse activity at start up, try the mouse on rear USB port (USB mouse only). Borrow a different one to test if your mouse is bad. Post back results AND details of the problem. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Meanwhile, the streamer sceens of my investment accounts also are malfunctioning, I can not use the mouse to click on the streamer sceens (completely frozen) and it has been impossible to use the mouse to read java charts etc. Are these problems related to each other?

My work computer occasionally does this. There doesn't seem to be any specific pattern -- sometimes it will run for days without a problem, sometimes it only runs for an hour. It seems to only happen when I'm processing large data files, but then again that's pretty much the only thing I use this computer for.

I really don't think it's a virus, driver, or software issue, becuz the computer totally locks up. The mouse won't move and ctrl-alt-del doesn't work either. It seems more like a hardware issue to me.

When I 1st built this computer, it crashed like this fairly often. A member here who helped me pick out the parts said that it would take a few heat cycles before the thermal paste for the CPU cooler completely bonded. It seemed like he was right -- after a couple weeks the problem *mostly* went away. But it's been really bad for the last week or so. I've had 3 crashes in 4 days.

The analyses I run w/ this computer generally take 6-15 hours, so I lose a lot of processing time when this happens! Is there any kind of monitor program that could record what's going on w/ the hardware so I'd have a log of what happened before the crash?

1 more thing -- I have a Linksys network switch so both of my computer cans be hooked up to the same ethernet port. Whenever the computer crashes, my other computer loses internet and I have to power-cycle the switch. It's a chicken-and-egg problem -- is the computer crashing and ca... Read more

Answer:Computer occassionally locks up so that not even the mouse pointer will move

Lockups can be caused by pretty much anything (hardware, OS, drivers, software) and there is no real way to pin point the issue.

The fact that it has always occurred, would indicate there has always been a problem. You shouldn't need a "few heat cycles" to cure anything. At least that is my experience.

As for the switch, the only test would be to replace the switch or completely remove the switch and test.

Have you checked Windows Event Viewer? Windows may or may not be logging errors. Typically not, as everything is usually normal until the event occurs, at which time Windows can't log anything anyway.

Running windows vista.

Computer has recently been randomly freezing and windows becomes unresponsive. The screen will go either go a clear white or will black screen, however i'm still able to move the mouse around. I'm not able to bring up task manager or open/close progams while this is occuring.

This seem to be random as I can either be playing games, browsing internet or simply on the desktop and the freeze or black screen will occur. The only way to fix it is to shut off the pc with the on/off button.

Solutions i have tried:
- Run AVG (and rootkit scan), malwarebytes anti-malware, superanti spyware and ccleaner all at different times. (Everything is clean)
- Run scandisk check numerous times. (scanned and fixed issues)
- Run Memory diagnostic tool (No issues found)
- Drivers up to date

When a freeze does occur and I restart the pc this message is always found in the event viewer:

Event ID: 10

TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Could this be causing the issue? Or is it just a byproduct of the freeze occuring?

I have also had a message on two occasions of 'logon process has failed to create the security options dialog.' This happend whilst on black screen.

Any suggestions on what is happening and what can be done for a possib... Read more

Answer:Computer freezes, windows unresponsive but can still move mouse

Freezing is normally caused by over heating issues. If you have a laptop clean all air vents with a can of compressed air and keep the laptop elevated from couch and bed like surfaces. If you have a desktop clean out all dust inside fans, PSU vents, heatsync and fan with a can of compressed air.

Go into bios and look at the temp readings and voltage readings mainly the 12v reading.

In cleaning up my laptop, I accidentally deleted something I wanted - but I didnt' realize it for a couple weeks.

No problem, system restore.

Started doing system restore operations, trying to find the exact point I wanted to go back to. I probably did 4 or 5 restore operations. A couple times I did a reverse operation, but not everytime. Guess I did one too many...

I am now able to turn the computer on, and it'll get to the user selection screen. Can't get past that point. The computer has a touchpad - with a blue light to indicate it's on. The blue light is off, and the touchpad is not functional, nor can I turn it on. External mouse plugged doesn't work.

The laptop will go into setup mode (F2)... but I don't see any nifty options to help me.

The laptop will start up in safe mode, and I get to the same login screen (with the additional option of logging in as the administrator) - and the mouse still won't move.

When I get to the user selection screen, the only button that works is the OFF button.

What do I do? What're my options?

Laptop is a Compaq Presario 2500
WinXP Home (XP pro on order...)
2.6GHz
1gb (512x2) 333 DDR SDRAM
Built in 802.11b/g
80gb hard drive, installed about 6 months ago
DVDRW drive, installed about 6 months ago

Answer:Completely Frozen - Pointer Won't Move

Please remember that system restore only restores Windows system files (hence the name) and not any file that you create/download/delete unless its directly related to the Windows operating system.

It sounds like the multitude of system changes have damaged Windows, I would opt for a reinstall but selecting the Repair option.

Assume all critical files you need (documents etc) are backed up?

My computer doesnt load up, doesnt progress any further than the Gigabyte utilities splash screen. I cannot open the CD drive, and pressing the keys on my keyboard does nothing. However, if I press the caps lock before turning my computer on, THEN the green light on the caps lock appears. Pressing the hotkeys, such as TAB for access to the BIOS, or F12 for utility program does nothing.

To give some background, I had been playing a game and had a tv show from the internet running in the background.

My system was running slow, and then seemed to have totally frozen. I waited 5 mins for it to resolve itself. It didn't. I tried task manager, and Ctl+Alt+Del to no avail.

I then, in desperation turned the power off at the mains.

PPS: I have left the computer for approx 4 hours to see if it was just running slowly. Sadly, no such luck.

Since then, I cannot even access Windows or anything.

Please help!

PS: This is a desktop computer I am referring to.

Answer:Computer is frozen when loading Windows, frozen at the Gigabyte Utilities screen

Quote:

doesnt progress any further than the Gigabyte utilities splash screen. I cannot open the CD drive

This signifies a hardware problem. When you power up the computer can you press the eject button for the CD drive? Does the tray open? Does the light on the CD drive light or blink? on the Gigabyte screen can you enter Setup (Bios) usually by pressing the Del key?
If not, then shut down the computer and unplug all drives (CD/DVD, HDD's, Floppy etc) and start the computer. Can you get into the Bios? If not, then you may have a failing Power Supply Unit. Try testing with another.

Trying to delete a file. As soon as I click on it it freezes Explorer.
I've tried doing the same, delete, OR rename, via multiple other applications and in them I can click on them, and attempt a rename, but the application then freezes. If I try to delete, the deletion scan comes up, and runs till I force close (task manager) the app.
It's an exe file, the exact file name can be seen in the attached screen shot.
All I want to do is make it gone. Any thoughts on why this happened and solutions before I resort to loading up a Linux live disc and deleting it that way?

Lockhunter should show what (if anything) is locking the file, for example.

Both freeware.

I have vista.  I know very little about computers, so I'm just going to type in the stuff on the side of the computer and hope that is all you need to help me:HP Pavillion a6010n PCIntel core 2 Duo Processor E4300Intel Viiv TechnologyWindows vista Home Premium1024MB system Memory320gb Hard driveWe update the computer as needed.  Currently using a Hpw1907 flat screen and a compaq key board because coffee spilled on the hp keyboard so we havent used it in months.  Also using the compaq mouse because we like it better (since we got this computer)So this morning, I attempted to switch from my husbands stuff to my stuff.  The computer switched easily to the menu page, but when I clicked on my name it did not respond promptly,  I clicked a few more times then it loaded my stuff.  At that moment, I had to take care of something when I returned later, and moved the mouse it started highlighting everything even though I wasnt holding anything down.  I clicked a couple of times to get out of the highlight mode, but when I tried to click on the next think I wanted to do, the icon responded as though it were ready to be clicked, but nothing happened.  Several clicks later, I got a response.  I desided to try a different program.  Same thing, lots of clicking, then a response, not always the expected response: When I clicked to see the next image, rather than moving forward one image, the computer would fast forward to the last image.... Answer:mouse simi-working or computer simi-frozen

Ok, never mind.  Apparently my husband didn't restart the computer after the problem despite the fact that he said he would.  So He just got home from work and desided to restart it....well, that appears to have worked, I would have done that ages ago had I known he hadn't done it!Oh well, it gave me the oppertunity to find this great forum -even if it did take me a million clicks to get here- so I'm glad about that, because I doubt this will be my last computer issue....Thanks anyway!

Hi I'm having a problem that I really can't seem to resolve: the image of my cursor freezes about 5 seconds after I log in, but the actual pointer still works i.e. I can still use the mouse, it's just that the cursor doesn't correspond to what I'm actually pointing at. At first this occurred randomly, sometimes after 25-30 mins of use, but now it does it every time, straight away.

One way I've found to get around it is to turn on mouse trails at the lowest setting, this lets me see the trails of the cursor (at the correct location), which at least lets me know what I'm clicking on.

I've tried:
Removing and reinstalling the drivers
Trying a different (ps/2) mouse
Trying a different USB port
Removing spyware etc with Spybot, AVG
Updating to the latest drivers
Updating Windows (which is when it changed from being random to every time)

Any ideas on this one?
Thanks in advance! James

Please please someone help.

I can find all over the internet five years worth of people that cannot watch videos, download, buffer, or even load pages unless they are constantly moving their mouse.

If I click a video on youtube or anything I have to tickle my mouse pad constantly or video freezes and only audio plays.

When downloading anything I have to constantly move mouse/cursor or it pauses.

Although this problem is raised in forum after forum, and question area - not one of them has the answer - and the threads just get closed off. Can anyone actually answer this one?

Did anyone anywhere ever get this sorted and can they come back and say what they did to resolve it please?

New laptop, only a few months old - Windows Seven Home Premium.

Scanned and nothingthere wrong - as did everyone else.

Please do not close the thread until we get a solution...

Thank you for reading - Julietstorm.

P.s. Here is a typical thread of which there are many that has been closed without a resolution being posted. Please don't close this thread, please could tech guy be the first to actually solve this in five years?

This thread describes the problem too: an example of a closed thread: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vi...se-moving.html

Hello,

I want to preface by saying this is now the second time (and second account - will get to that later) that this has happened.

This morning, I go to wake up my computer from sleep (Windows 10, now with Anniversary update) and it seemingly crashes and restarts. When I go sign back in, the mouse works fine. Once loaded up the mouse can move around, but when I click on anything, no clicks register. The Mouse is a Logitech G502 Spectrum attached to the USB pass-through of a Corsair Strafe. I go attach it to another USB port (on the front of my PC tower) and once again the mouse moves, but I still cannot click anything. Long story short, I go to remove mouse drivers and restart. Same thing - i can use and click mouse on log in screen but not logged in. Oh, I also tried another mouse with same results (another Logitech)

I did the same thing I did last time - I created several other user accounts and logged into my emergency one. The mouse clicks are now registered albeit without all my stuff in the right places. I want to be able to access this account again only being able to click my mouse on stuff. My accounts don't have a Microsoft email attached to them, they are local accounts - personal preference.

This happened once before (but before the Anniversary Update). This account that doesn't work on is a replacement account for the now deleted main account I had that had the same problem. I am now typing this on a 3rd account with mouse control and dread having to re-do... Read more

I got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem. This is a frequently happening problem and is causing a lot of annoyance. PLEASE HELP!

Answer:Mouse Click Freeze, Mouse Move Works

its true that the cheapest bit of kit for a comp can bring the whole thing down, try other mouses, check the hardware, check the drivers, check battery if it has one, sometimes even a better mouse mat can cure it,i would try these easy steps first

When windows starts up there is no mouse pointer, and will stay hidden until i move my mouse. This was the case without the logitech drivers; with the drivers installed but not running and with the drivers installed and running. So i doubt this is because of the drivers.

Power options are set at maximum performance.

Answer:No mouse pointer after startup until i move the mouse

Open Settings....in "find a Setting" box at top type mouse....this should give you several options to play with.

Question: frozen mouse

Recently I updated Skype. No problems really, other than it changed my start up page to msn. A few other annoying things were happening after the update so, I decided to use system restore as I have many times to undo other problems from updates.
The nearest restore date just happened to be about eight days before,on the same day as my renewing of Kaspersky. But I went ahead.
When it restarted,a few of the normal start up programs began to load including Skype, and thats where it stalled. mouse is frozen in the middle of the screen.
Have bought another mouse, even used it in a different port.
Have started in safe mode and bios setup, the keyboard arrows work ok but I cant operate this machine without the mouse
Please help
still run XP

Answer:frozen mouse

Please try shutting down, unplugging the power cord, (remove battery if it's a laptop) then press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Then you can replug it in and try it.

Question: Frozen mouse!!!

I've had a new mouse for less than a year and lately it will suddenly and often freeze up on me. I cannot move the cursor at all when the freeze occurs. If the freezing happens once, it will occur often, freezing up just a few minutes after restarting my PC because of the previous freeze (it just did it!). It is supposedly a good mouse (Kensington without the ball, movement powered by light/laser) so I don't know what the deal is. Can anyone help???

Answer:Frozen mouse!!!

I could be many things,
starting with a broken wire on the mouse/driver or software problem/a trojan horse installed on the system and someon is messing with you. etc.

First, I'd suggest to get a spare mouse and use it for a while, see if keeps freezing. If it does, then you know the mouse it's ok and we need to start looking somewhere else.

You can get cheap mouses for 2 or 3 dollars.

Answer:My mouse is frozen

Have you tried using a different mouse to see if the mouse is the problem? How about trying a USB mouse to see if that works? You say you tried re-booting the pc by unplugging and plugging in the mouse, does this mean that you simply unplugged the mouse or did you actually try shutting down the computer and re-starting it (the proper way through your Operating System)?

Answer:My mouse is frozen on my pc

You didn't mention if the mouse is connected to the round PS/2 port or to one of the rectangular USB ports.

If the problem is continuing even after changing mice, it's not a mouse problem.

Make sure that you're not using it on a glossy or reflective surface.

Have you tried restarting the computer?

Feel free to confirm my hunch that I have corrupted my computer. First, I was getting a message (I can't recall exactly) that there was a problem with the graphic driver. So genius (not really), stubborn that I am, I decided to try and fix it (which I guess I had no business doing).

Anyhow...I have a Dell pc (Dimension 5150), windows xp OS. I downloaded the Intel Chipset and rebooted my computer now my cursor is frozen. Yes, I tried 2 different wireless and 1 non-wireless mouse in various ports, to no avail.

I suppose there is nothing I can do besides restoring the computer to factory settings which would mean losing all my information, or take it to a professional and hope he can repair it.

Does your keyboard work? If the keyboard works, do a system restore to before you donwnloaded the chipset drivers.

Any suggestions on how to regain mouse control?

I have dual boot Win7-Win10 and until recently I could still boot to a usable Win7, even though the lic registration was canceled presumably due to installing Win10 over the same lic on a different partition. When you do the free upgrade it transfer's the lic from 7 to 10. I only use 7 or trouble shooting problems where I want to make sure it's not a Win10 issue.

Now, when I boot to 7, I have no mouse. The cursor just sits there. Also the up/down/left/right arrows don't work, so can't select the MS key or any key. Pretty hard to do anything when you lose all navigation ability. Reinserting the USB connection and using different ports did nothing, nor did plugging it into the main ps/2 port with an adapter. Also booting to safe mode does not change anything. The USB mouse works just fine with Win10.

Is this Microsoft's way of saying "tsk, tsk, don't use that OS anymore"?

O/S Windows XP Home Edition w SP2--This unit has PS2 ports for both the mouse & keyboard. I purchased both a new mouse & keyboard. The mouse is laser type with a USB to PS2 adapter plug and the keyboard has a PS2 connector. After installation, they both worked but soon the the mouse froze. I rebooted twice and the mouse remains frozen. Dead mouse or what?

Answer:Mouse Frozen or Dead

Plug the mouse in using it's USB plug and see if it works.

The only other way to test is to try a different mouse, or put your mouse into a different computer and test.

If you are using PS2, then the mouse must be plugged into the computer BEFORE you start the computer in order to be recognized. However, you can plug in a USB mouse anytime and it should be recognized if it is working ok.

Hello, I recently installed a Windows XP Pro into my computer and had some problems with it, I followed instructions leading me into deleting some of my registries and now everytime I start my computer up, my keyboard and mouse won't respond to anything, I have tried replugging them but it was a no go. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Mouse and keyboard frozen

Hi mloo55,

Are both these items corded? Also, are the mouse and keyboard new? Is the computer? Try using an older mouse/keyboard and see if those work. The more information we have the better the chances of finding a solution.
Regards,
Daniel.

Hi and thanx for offering this invaluable service for those of us struggling in this hi-tech world!I bought a second hand p4 which had been running on wireless mouse and keyboard BUT when i bought it i was fobbed off with a cheapo WIRED mouse and keyboard (not usb).I have now set up the system in its new home and switched it on but the mouse and keyboard are totally non-responsive.Any ideas???
Im using Windows xp home edition pack 2.

Answer:Keyboard and mouse frozen!!!

Did you plug the mouse and the keyboard in the right ports? Did you actually see this keyboard and mouse working before you bought the system?

It is quite common for PS/2 ports to die - maybe there was a reason the system was used with USB/wireless?

I have three wireless USB mice, they have all stopped working two days ago. The cursor is stuck in the center of the monitor. The USB keyboard and printer are both working.

I've swapped ports, no change. I have run anti-virus, anti-malware software they found no problems. I cannot do a system restore, it was shut off (its back on now).

My pc doesn't have any PS2 connections for a wired mouse.
I don't use any mouse software, just the generic windows xp drivers.

However, I did find a ps2 to USB converter, plugged in a wired ps2 mouse and it works.
So why won't the wirelss USB mouse work ?

So any idea's or suggestions as what I can try next ?

Thank you for your time,

Bonnie

I need help please! I have a Dell Latitude D610 that is running on Windows XP and something weird happened to it. A few days ago the laptop was infected by one of those antivirus 2012. I decided to restart the laptop before I tried to get rid of the virus, but after the restart the laptop's mouse cursor won't work anymore it is stuck in the middle. I have tried using 3 other external mouses but none of them have worked. The laptop still turns on, the audio still works, the wireless still works, some of the function shortcuts still work (brightness and audio), but shortcut buttons like the windows button and alt+ctrl+delete won't load up anymore either. I don't mind reinstalling windows xp and I don't mind putting in the recovery disc, but I still have a lot of files on that laptop that I would like to recover so I would prefer to just get it working again. Is there anything I could do to get the mouse working again so that I could save my files before I reinstall windows?

I have a desktop with Win XP  Pro. This is a custom model with IDE drive 80 gb.  Recently, I went to Driver Max and found that I had 15 drivers that needed updating.  I went through about 11 with no problem and no particular change in the system.  Then I think I went to a driver that was connected to a mouse driver. Suddenly my Microsoft Intellimouse explorer 2.0 's function froze.  the pointer is setting in the middle of the screen.  I have changed batteries, syncronized , and swore all to non avail.  The pointer will change to a hand etc so I see no problem with the XP OS.  I have very limited use of the up down keys and I can't work the accessibily screen to get mouse keys. I wanted to get to system restore to see it that work, but I can't navigate the screen.  Is there a way to improve my navigation function with the keyboard or does any one have an answer to the frozen mouse? (BTW I tried to use a p/2 mouse, didn't workdrhck

Answer:frozen mouse pointer

Are there any system restore points from before you upgraded the drivers? What was the name (or approximate name, if you can't really remember) of the driver that caused the mouse freezing? To activate MouseKeys, press Left Alt+Left Shift+Numlock.

HiI am not really sure if I am posting this in the correct place, but I really hope so!Last night, I tried to uninstall a Kaspersky 2011 anti virus program from my PC, as it had expired and kept popping up with an annoying alert, telling me so. I am quite a novice with computers, but know that I needed to uninstall from the control panel etc. All was going well, until it stopped half way through, and said that there was an error, and that it couldn't be uninstalled properly.  I had already downloaded another antivirus program ready to put on (but hadn't installed it).  As the old one couldn't be uninstaled, I didnt install the new one.As I was not able to unistall/install, I left it as it was (until I could find someone to help) and continued to use my PC for my work.  All was well......until I opened up this morning! It opens up fine, no problems and the screen looks normal, except for one thing......the mouse pointer is stuck in the middle of the screen and wont move!I have tried unplugging the mouse and re-inserting (its a USB one), tried using a different USB port (incase the port had a sudden problem), then tried a new mouse, also tried re-booting a few times, but nothing works! The mouse pointer is still frozen in the middle of the screen.Incidentally, the infra red light on the mouse is still lit up - if that actually means anything? Please can someone help? I am not able to do any work, until its fixed! Please, when replying, bear in mind .... Read more

Hello to all at TSF,
I am using my computer for about 3 yr with Windows XP SP3 without any problem.
For protection I install paid software EMSISOFT Anti-Malware (starting at booth), Zone Alarm firewall and Avast Antivirus (starting manually ones a week).
A few days ago my computer starts rebooting itself randomly after 5 minutes to 2 hours regardless what program is in use at that moment. After reboot it behaves normal, I can use any program or internet as usual till next reboot. I uninstall some audio software (installed a month ago) clean computer and registry and now I get keyboard and mouse frozen instead rebooting. Only restart (power Off / On) helps until the next random time keyboard and mouse gets frozen.
I would appreciate it, if someone can help me to resolve this problem.
Regards,
GM741

Hi
A friend has asked me to look at his comuter because when he boots up the mouse is frozen and he can't logon. (the picture comes up, but not able to click on it). I managed to get the welcome screen up once, and the message that personal settings were loading, but I left if for about 15 mins and it never came up. I can hear activity in the drive.

My friend doesn't want to do a clean install because he hasn't backed up any of his work and there is tons of artwork on there.

Any ideas please ?

I suggested taking the drive out and putting it into one of my machines to try and get the work off his drive, but only as a last resort.

Cheers

Hi All

I turned off the PC last night and on rebooting this morning the cursor is frozen mid stream. I tried 3 different mouses and am currently using a friends PC to try and find a cure. The system is XP on a shop built PC. I am able to use the tab and direction buttons to do some functions but very few. I managed to run Spybot and it uncovered Hupigon 13 and LSA in my registry. I cannot expand the entries to find out exactly where, and cannot click on " Fix Selected Problems" I have tried system restore but it will not restore to a previous date. I cant run AVG so I am stuck. HELP PLEASE !

I have a machine that is running XP Pro. The keyboard and mouse does not work at the login screen. I have switched the keyboard and mouse out with working ones so I know it is not these devices. I can get into the bios of the motherboard with the keyboard. I doubt that this machine has had its virus or spyware updated while it was in use. I was told that it just quit working while they were surfing the internet. No recovery disk was created for this machine either. Can someone help me out?

Answer:frozen mouse and keyboard

Do they work in Safe Mode ?
You can access safe mode by tapping the f8 key early in the boot process.

Windows XP Professional. Wireless mouse pointer frozen in centre of screen.Wireless keyboard OK. Have tried USB mouse & another wireless. Problems started when I deleted Norton Anti-virus & halfway though loading new Kaspersky, computer froze completely & had to shut down by holding power button. Re started OK and tried to load Kaspersky again but this time from disc. Froze again & had to shut down on the power button. Next restart, mouse pointer frozen centre screen. Driver OK in Control Panel but says cannot find hardware(Code 41) Have re-loaded the original XP disc - no change.

Answer:Frozen Mouse Pointer

so you have reinstalled windows??, if not try.
Try a ps2 mouse (if you have a port)
try uninstalling and reinstalling your USB controlers (uninstall then restart, they should come up)

usualy you need to use a tool from nortons to remove that stupid program, i havent used kaspersky is it good?

for AV i use AVG free by Grisoft and Antivir Personal by Avira, both are free and somtimes detect diferent threts, i find most full blown Internet Security programs are anoying and expencive.

any way tell us how you go.
thanks for using TSG

We've been having intermittent freezing problems with our Mouse for the last 6 months and it's really starting to bug me.

We're an AMD Athlon 3000/ Nvidia Graphics PC running XP using Microsoft 3000 Wired Mouse.

For no apparent reason the Mouse double click actions become inoperative. The only get around (which appears to reset the mouse) is Ctrl Alt Delete then close the Task Manager WIndow by pressing Esc key - thereafter double clicks work again for a few selections but then inevitably stop.
It's still possible to make selections with the arrow and return keys, but patience runs thin after a while. I have also tried slowing/accelerating the click speeds to no avail.

This normally occurs after the machine has been running for a while - it doesn't start up with the problem - which made me wonder if it's a heat problem on the processor? I've checked the BIOS but everything seems to be within tolerance. I very much doubt if it's a Mouse hardware issue - some outside agent seem to be making this happen.

Did you try using another mouse?
