Printer 110v vs. 220 v.

Question: Printer 110v vs. 220 v.

I have HP LJ p4014. I was wondering if there would be a difference between using a maintenance kit thats 220v on a 110v printer. Any help would be good.

Preferred Solution: Printer 110v vs. 220 v.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Printer 110v vs. 220 v.

What does that maintenance kit do? Because you can easily go into HP software and order your printer to clean printheads or align them.

Hello guys , I read before registration that there's many experts here available to give trustworthy advice, so I wondered if any of you could please help me out, this is my inquiry:I have a computer that works with an electricity voltage of a 110v, power outlets where I live work with 220v, I use an adapter and as a result my computer works fine. The problem is.. I would like to connect a printer to my computer and this printer works with 220v, I'm really worried that doing that might damage my computer also I wonder if they would be compatible at all. Thanks in advance and thank you guys for your patience Kind regards, Gene.

Answer:Compatibility Between 110v Computer and 220v Printer, Possible? ( Please, Help!)

I can't see the way the printer is powered and the way the computer is powered being much of an issue, as long as they are powered independently. Would the only connection between them be usb? If so then I can't see it being a problem. Not an electrical genius by any means so you might want to let one of the genius's round here weigh in.

Question: 110v ?

I have bought few electronic equipments from USA and it states 110v on all those equipments. Kindly let me know how should I run them in UK on 220v.thank you

Answer:110v ?

Go to an electrical store and purchase a 220v -110v converter (if such a thing exists).Otherwise, return the "electronic equipments" to the USA and ask yourself why you purchased items which run on a totally different voltage to that which is standard in the UK

I dont know if this is the right place to put this post, but I am going to the Philippines in about two and a half weeks, and I'm going to bring over some electronics such as a tablet, phone, camera and laptop, Where can I find a converter that is good, I'm afraid I never used one before So im making sure, does anyone have an experience with them, I read some review people saying make sure you device is compatible with the voltages? If I need to check if they are compatible why am i buying a adapter/converter?

Answer:Converter for 220v to 110v?

I am using SUPAC T-10 100 watts converter (transformer) for the last 4 years without any problem. There are higher powered models too. I use it as a step down transformer but when connected the other way it can be used as a step up transformer too.

The transformer is a simple gadget without any moving parts and I think any brand would do equally well. The only thing to look for is that it should convert both ways depending on how it is connected.

Answer:H530s 110v to 220v..

Hi wayne, welcome to the forums,

there will be a section on this, or at least half a page, in the user guide.  If there is no physical 110v - 230v switch on the power supply unit it will be autosensing (as the H520s was).

Hey, I have some vistors from overseas who happend to bring a laptop with them but forgot to buy an adapter for their electronics since where they come from they use 220V while where I live it is 110V. However their laptop is exactly the same as mine (with the exception of theirs running on 220V), and I looked at the batteries of both laptops and I dont see a difference. Infact i am able to plug in the battery of 1 of the laptops into the other (i didnt turn the power on). so My question is Can I charge their battery on MY laptop? or can I use my battery on their laptop. it is somewhat urgent and we need to get some files from their laptopAlso if I do have to buy a VOLTAGE CONVERTER, which one do I need to buy to be able to charge thier laptop's battery (is 2000 W sufficient?)Thanks

Answer:220V to 110V Laptop battery

i believe the only difference between the two computers is the size of the transformer in the charger itself. if they brought their charger, compare its output to yours (the chargers should clearly say the output voltage (V, VDC, or Volts), output amperage(A or Amps), output frequency (Hz), and/or output wattage(W or Watts)). if the outputs match EXACTLY, then you can use your charger in their comp.QuoteAlso if I do have to buy a VOLTAGE CONVERTER, which one do I need to buy to be able to charge thier laptop's battery (is 2000 W sufficient?)if the outputs of the chargers do not match and you have to buy a converter, then read the input of the 220V charger. it should say how many amps it consumes. multiply the number of amps the charger consumes with the voltage to get the wattage.example:lets say your charger consumes 5Amps @ 120V (i dont know where you live but in north america 120V is the standard voltage)P=I*VP=5*120P=600Win this case the 2000W converter will be more then enough.

If any ones knows and can help me... I need to know if my computer (Dell 350) and components (monitor + Speakers) will work on 220 v. If not, will a transformer (to 220v) do the trick or will it harm the machine evenually. .. Thx Carrie

Answer:Will system work on either 110v or 220v

The computer?Check the back of your computer, There should be a flick switch (mine is red) that allows you to alter the voltage supply to accept 220V (Most will operate between 200-250V). Remember to switch BEFORE you plug in the power cable, unless you want to fry its components. If your computer doesn't have the switch (I highly doubt this would be the case), then you are out of luck.Monitor? Most monitors these days are multi-voltage, i.e., they accept the whole range and will switch automatically. Check the back of your monitor. If it says 100-250V 50Hz/60Hz or similar, then it belongs to that category, and all you'll have to do is plug in the power cable and power it up.Speakers?Again, it depends on the manufacturer, but I highly doubt they would supply with a multi-voltage power supply to drive the speakers.Check on the power adapter/power supply that powers your speakers. Again check the lable to see if it says something similar to voltage specs I mentioned above. If it does, congratulations! If it doesn't, you have two options: a) get a new power supply when you moved to the 220V location by contacting the local office of the manufacturer, or get a generic one that matches your original in output voltage, output amperes, and polarity.b) use a voltage transformer, then plug all the components into it. Make sure you get a good one which has a voltage regulator to stablise the output voltage."Logic is the beginning of wisdom."D266/I3200/T450/T500Xircom PortStation U... Read more

Hi,I've bought an Evesham PC, and I want to use it in Jamaica, where the power supply is 110V.I hear that you can flip a switch at the back of the computer to adjust the power supply, but I found no flippable switch at the back of my PC. Is this because, since Evesham is a British manufacturer, their power supplies simply not designed to be used with 110V supplies?I've also heard that most modern power supplies automatically adjust themselves to the input voltage. Will this be the case for my computer? Please tell me the best solution for me to use my apparently stubborn Evesham PC abroad.

Answer:Want To Use Evesham PC with 110V Power Supply

Look carefully at the back of the PC, where the power lead enters the PC. There should be a small plate fixed to or printed on the PSU (Power Supply Unit), stating the allowable input voltage. If it says something like 210~230V, forget it. If it says 110~230V, you should be fine.If you can't see a marking, ring Evesham. The loder PSUs had a switch that you set to either 110 or (then) 240V - most nowadays are auto-sensing.Check your monitor carefully for the same type of information.

I will be travelling to the UK and I am planning on bringing my Archos AV500 portable DVR. Can I charge it in the UK by just using an adapter plug where I plug in my US power cord into a plug so I can plug it into the UK 3 prong wall outlet or do I need to use a transformer to change the voltage?

The power plug says "input: 100V -240N~ 50-60Hz/0.3A" "output: 5V--1.6A"

Thanks.

Is it okay to plug a 100v - 240v adapter to a 110v socket?

I use a standard Automatic Voltage Regulator powerbox with two 220v sockets and one 110v (50hz max) socket. I use the two 220v for my pc and speakers.

The 110v socket is the one I'm looking to use it with. My wifi uses an adapter that says: 100v-240v (50hz-60hz) input. Can I plug it in 110v socket?

I just need to be sure before anything explode.

Hi everyone,

Here is my lil story, I've been living in the USA for a year and a half and finally brought my computer back from France, it's a pretty old desktop I made 5 years ago. The thing is, being in the USA, I'm now facing the 110v/220v issue.
I checked the power supply in my computer it only takes 230v, there no 115/230v switch... I'm far from being an electrical specialist and so I am wondering if I can simply install a 110v power supply in my computer. Would it be compatible with the components and the power supply cables in the computer? I'm interested in this solution because I may need to buy a more powerful power supply as I'm thinking of getting a better video card and some more memory.
The other solution I guess would be to buy a voltage convertor like this one right?

Thanks all for your help!
Pierre

Answer:110v power supply in european made computer?

If the power supply is a standard ATX type, it would be better to replace it with a 110 volt model. Since you are planning to upgrade your video card, you may need a better power supply anyway.

The converter would work, but per the website you linked to, they recommend using a converter that has a power handing capacity 2X what you plan to connect to it; probably the 1000 watt model. $45 plus shipping is close to the price of a power supply.

Hello i Have the above problem while I try to share a printer on a domain network.
My windows firewall (localy) is also damage, is that the problem that I have to solve first?

Windows 8  - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties  [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved.  There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.   [OK]

Answer:Windows 8 - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. [OK]

You may need to reinstall the printer. Remove the printer driver from Control Panel\Programs and Features, then add the printer from Devices and Printers.

Please note that if the printer driver is not in the list in Devices and Printers, I suspect that the printer is currently not compatible with Windows 8. In this case I suggest you contact the printer manfuacturer for more information.

Hi,

My computer is working fine - but I recently purchased a new Samsung ML2570 laser printer that just died when the starter cartridge ran out of toner (or actually when the printer counter hit its predetermined set no. - probably 1000). At least I think that's what happened. The starter cartridges come without fuses. Replacement cartridges or toner refill kits come with fuses that are supposed to reset the counters, so when I refilled the starter cartridge and inserted the fuse that came with the kit, the printer still didn't work. I tried again with two more fuses, with no luck. I don't have a printer jam and all the doors are well-latched before I turn it on. Does anyone have any idea what I should do next to get my printer working again? My email is [email protected]

Regards, and thanks for any help,

Marie

My Mom has an HP laptop. She recently purchased a new HP printer and I have been trying for the last 4 days to get it to install/connect. I've been in touch with HP but the links they provide aren't resolving the issues.

First, using the CD that came with the printer: hangs up at around 85-90%. It doesn't not show up as installed. I copied the CD to the desktop, modified Setup.exe in CFFExplorer and Run as Administrator and it appears to completely install; however, when I go to Device Manager, it says no driver is found. I sometimes have the option to update and sometimes that seems to work but I can't access it through Add a Printer (which has the green bar run across the top, then pulsate and freeze).

Trying to install using the driver I download from HP results in no installing screen appearing but it does hang up in the background and the only way to stop it is to Restart. The same thing happens if I try to use HPs Wizard.

I've installed several HP printers through the years and not had this much trouble. That doesn't even include the dozens of times I've had to reinstall my own HP printer because of its contrariness!

Additionally, attempts to uninstall the old printer results in it hanging up/freezing soon in to the process, whether I try to uninstall from the Start menu, file or Uninstall program. I'm not even being able to get the Windows Updates to install - that process also just hangs up/freezes. FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while so there are ma... Read more

Answer:Unable to install printer drivers, uninstall old printer, update Windo

Hi columbia93, welcome to 7F!

Printers are touchy animals, when installing any printer you have to follow the install procedures exactly as described by the manufacturer.

This may be the root cause:

Quote:
FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while

Not that you haven't been able to check it, but there may be an accumulation of problems on your Mom's machine that also are stopping the update process.

I am trying to find one of 7F's tutorials on improving performance of a computer, but it boils down to cleaning out all detritus that a machine can accumulate of a period of time.
I did find this but there is another one: Hard Disk Space - Free Up and Recover The first three options would help

Run Antimalware/virus scans, run a Check Disk then a sfc /scannow then try to uninstall that old printer driver, and if that works shut down the machine, and try to install the printer without the HP disk, when it looks, but asks if you have the disk say no and allow the OS to install what it has.
It is my understanding that HP Printer drivers already come with Windows 7.

But do the cleanup first and see if that helps.

I just downloaded and installed Windows Virtual PC XP Mode to be able to run old software (Micrografx Designer) that worked on 32-bit XP.

The installation went fine, also installing Designer in the virtual machine. However, the printer is not found.

When restarting XP with the printer attached to a different port it was still not found.
What to do?
Thank you.
(It's a standalone PC, the printer does not connect via network)

Two things might cause this: a marginal power supply that does not have enough power to supply for the printer and too many items in all the USB ports which can't supply all the power requirements.

I have trouble installing a HP Color LaserJet 8550N printer (has JetDirect Printer Server 600N with IP address of 192.168.68.4) to my XPpro PC.
I was stuck when Add Printer Wizard ask me to “specific a Printer”. I selected “Browse for a printer” and came up with nothing (no printer). I tried selecting “Connect to this printer” but I do not know what name to type in (Example is \\server\\printer). I tried selecting “Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network” but I do not what URL to type in (Example is http://server/printer/myprinter/printer). Therefore, I cancelled the installation.
I had then installed its Printer Utility. The utility is capable of finding the printer and showing me it’s Properties. However, I still ended up with no printer listed to use in Printers and Faxes.
So, XPpro is a step backward in this case.
I could install this printer with printer server on W98/ME because their Add Printer Wizards allow me to use either the IP address or the hardware address to locate the printer server.
I hope I have described my problem well. Please help!

I'm having difficulty getting the printer which is attached to a Win XP Pro system to be available for use by a Win ME system on the same network.

The printer is a HP Deskjet 697C. It is installed and working on the Win XP Pro system.
Both systems can see each other on the network and transfer files back and forth with no difficulty.
The printer on the XP system is marked for Sharing and File and Print Sharing is enabled.
The XP Firewall is turned off, as we use Zone Alarm Security Suite.

When I use Add Printer on the WinME machine, and try to browse for a network printer, I can expand the network to see the computer name of the XP machine, but the shared printer doesn't show up as a choice.

What are we doing wrong?

Answer:Solved: Can't Add HP 697C Printer connected to WinXP Pro into WinME printer choices

What is the share name for the printer? Win ME uses NetBIOS for local shares, and has a limit of 12 characters to a share name.

I hope this is the right forum to post this.  If not I apologize.  I searched everywhere to get an answer to this but found nothing.  I can print from word pad and note pad but I want to print a document from Microsoft Works and I get several message....document and printer settings don't match, out of memory save or close open files and something else I can't remember.  I have Windows XP home edition and the printer is hp C3180.  If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.Pepper

Answer:Printer error message document and printer settings don't match

When you try to print from Works is it using the default printer ? ?It may be looking at an older device that was not uninstalled correctly...Check Control Panel/Printers...

Hi Guys,

I'm getting quite frustrated with this issue and wondering if anyone has seen it, and able to resolve the issue. The issue is I have a network printer selected as the default in Windows 10. I have the option "Let Windows manage my default printer" turned off. At one point randomly, the default printer goes back to the Adobe PDF as the default.

Steps taken:

* I have checked the registry settings to ensure that the options "let Windows manage my default printer" is switched off. I can confirm this.
* Switched the default printer back to the network printer and performed a reboot. The network printer remains as the default. At some point of the day it goes back to Adobe PDF.
* Had a Microsoft support dude to look at the issue, but he has no idea either.

A few of my pilot users has also experience the same issue. Any ideas anyone?

Hi to all.

I am having an annoing problem with shared printers.

The user that share a printer lose the default printer in any case when another user print on this shared and it turn immediatly default printer only for the user that share the printer.

The printer shared is a label printer without network port and all was working very well before this , in my opinion, unusefull improve.

All user have the " not manage default option" , win 10 pro but seems that "default option" do not effect at all with shared printers.

It is clear that is a very bad working for the sharing printer user that have to check every time what the actual default printer.

any suggestion or is it a win 10 bug ?

My new windows 7 computer is a dell package from staples. It's an Inspiron 660, 3 ghz, 4 megs ram, 64 bit, intel pentium processor. It's running Windows 7 Home edition. It's on a 'workgroup' network with two xp machines, one of which shares data files that reside on the win7 machine.

My usb receipt printer is an Epson tm-u220D. This printer is not plug and play, so the driver had to be downloaded and force fed. No problem there really; after a few tries we got the printer to print a test page and the accounting software (Bottom Line Accounting) seems to recognize it fine.

This setup is used as the cash register in a retail store, and prints receipts for customers on paper rolls.

Here is the minor glitchy problem - when we print a receipt it prints fine, but then we can see the red error light on the printer start flashing, and the next receipt won't print until we switch the printer off and back on. Also we see a local downlevel document in the queue that goes away in about a half minute whether we turn the printer off or not, and it instantly disappears if we do turn it off.

It's gonna be a pain to switch the printer off and back on between every two customers.

Surely there is an easy fix for this problem - any printer experts out there? Thanks in advance!

I am running windows xp pro, I had installed sp2 and found usb problems. In trying to fix the problem I accidentally deleted the port the printer was using, the "virtual usb port". I have recently removed the sp2 from my computer which helped in other areas but my printer is not being recognized by anything since deleting that port. Does anyone know how I can get that port back. All other usb devices work fine, scanner mouse keyboard ect..With power on to the printer it shows "printer not responding" or "printer offline". The printer is a cannon s9000. If it helps I am running a Abit kt-7a raid mobo, 1.4ghz amd athlon, win xp pro build 2600. I thought of installing xp on top of the current install but wasn't sure if i'd make things worse..Any help greatly appreciated.

do these exist? in the market for buying my son a printer.. do any do photo printing as well as normal? recomendations?

Answer:Super-B (A3) color photo printer, and a letter-size printer AIO?

There are inkjets that can handle both styles of printing in a 13" wide format. If photo printing is the reason for the purchase then concentrate on that and pick up a $39 HP all in one at staples for the everyday stuff. You will find that printer that do both photos and day to day do both OK but not great. Epson, Canon and HP all make decent 13" wide photo printers that will produce prints better than you will buy from your local photo mat. Epson is the king in this arena as they have been for years. HP and Canon have made huge inroads and they are very close now (some even like them better).Epson 1900 and 2880 are excellent printers with 13" wide paper ability and there is 150 in rebates through epson right now.

I use epson printers for photo myself as my business demands it. The archival inks will not fade so a photo printed on Epson paper with K3 inks will last 75 - 90 years. More important is that when I print a portrait for a customer I know it is the best that they can get and I can guarantee it will stay that way. I use the Epson 7800 and 3800 printers.

Having looked at old threads I am not the only person to run up against this very hard problem. My solution at present is using a stick and transferring to XP sony lap top which is a nightmare as both have different versions of microsoft office. I am new to this forum and apologise in advance if my thread post does not meet the standards required of this collective. many best wishes to all.

I'm an intern at a non-profit for the summer and was given my own little office. The small problem I have is with trying to print webpages, specifically the format that a page would be when you try to print off google maps...
When printing in other programs such as office I can select which printer. (There are 5 network printers, 2 that print double sided, 2 that are desktop units in other people's cubes, and 1 that is the fax machine). However when printing off a webpage I am only given two options, "MS Office Document Image Writer" and "Microsoft XPS Document Writer".
How can I make any of the other printers availible/show up when I'm trying to print a webpage? The tech guy is covering about 4 other jobs and told me I'm free to fiddle/add/edit system stuff on my machine. I tend to be pretty good about most things but am not experienced with networking.
Any help would be appreciated, let me know if any clarification is necessary.
I'm running Windows XP all current updates have been installed.
Thanks!

After having setup successfully Win 7 Pro some years ago printing worked fine for several pdf printers
and connected USB laser printers.

Then, recently, I must have changed something accidentially in System.

When I now want to print (e.g. a Word doc or web page from Firefox) it doesn't work anymore.

EVERY printer does not work!

Further investigations revealed that the printer ports are vanished in printer Proprties dialogs.
Its completely empty!

Have a look at the attached snapshot.

I don't know which event or action caused the printer port deletion.
Maybe a new Win Patch or an uninstallation of driver or a registry key adding.

However re-installation of printer drivers does not help since the required underlying ports are gone.

How can I re-install them again?

Is there a manual Registry add script?

I'm using Adobe Reader 10.1.4 and can't get it to see the laser printer on the network. Previous versions worked OK and Word sees it without a problem. When I try to print a document the print screen shows firstly the default printer which is an inkjet connected via USB and when I click the drop-down all the printers are there except the laser on the network which I want to use.

The printer has been deleted and re-installed several times, is shown on the printer list in the Control panel and being “ready” and works fine with other packages such as Word. I have also deleted and downloaded Acrobat several times restarting the PC in between but still it can’t find that particular printer.

As other PCs see the printer and this one used to, does anyonehave any ideas as to how I can link the two?

To try and help further it is the only printer on the wireless network and if I transfer the pdf document to another PC, it works fine.

I was getting the print spooler app error message in Vista, as you were, and this is what I did upon following the advice in your blog. You definately helped me with a frustrating problem, and now I would like to help others with the same problem.

1. I went to Device Manager and clicked on View -> Show Hidden
Devices. Selected System Devices. And Uninstalled both the UMBus
Enumerator as well as the UMBus Root Bus Enumerator.

2. Rebooted.

3. Downloaded the drivers for my printer (Dell A960)

4. Installed the drivers for my printer from the download.

5. Printer worked.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit version and the install of the Brother DCP 7065DN is causing me grief.

The copy and scan functions are operable, but not the printer function.

I am logged in as Administrator in Vista.

Printing a test page returns an "access is denied" message.

So I try to open as administrator and trying the Print test page, returns message "Printer not installed"

I have tried the XP compatibility mode as well as XP and Win7 printer drivers but no success.

I have had no problem installed the printer on another hard drive with Win 7

Brother says my Vista is corrupted and contact support.microsoft.com . How nice, Doing a web search, it seems that Brother definitely has compatibility issues with Vista judging on all the posts. Unfortunately I see few solutions.

Check the cables for damage and connection.

If this doesn`t work then maybe a new printer is in order.

Hi,

The first question I have to ask is "use it with Windows 7 for what?" To connect to a printer? To connect to old computers?

If you want to connect the Windows 7 computer to a printer, it would be helpful to know the printer model. Old Apple printers with LocalTalk interfaces tend to have serial and/or parallel ports as well, and you're better off connecting the computer to those - you'd need one of those on the computer, of course.

If you don't have those, or you need/want to network the printer, and it has a serial or parallel port, look into a serial to Ethernet or parallel to Ethernet adapter and ignore the EtherWave device for this purpose. You can probably pick up an old HP JetDirect external print server dirt cheap on eBay. Many of them have both serial and parallel ports. If the printer has a parallel port, get a JetDirect that has those - they're faster than serial po... Read more

I have two printers, one of which is an Epson Artisan 1430 (very new, installed with current drivers and current firmware) and one of which is a Canon iP6000D (very old, with old, unsupported drivers), and both of them frequently will not actually print anything unless I turn the printer off and back on first. The system thinks the doc went to the printer, but it's landing in the bitbucket instead. This behavior began several months ago, and was not present for at least the first several months after the 10 upgrade.

In both cases, when the symptom crops up, the system and printers may have been on continuously with no sleep, power-off or other reboot (that I know about) for as little as 4 hours since the last doc printed, or as much as several days. If the system has rebooted, the problem becomes *slightly* more likely but not certain. When it happens, usually both printers are impacted. (I have not consistently tested it, but so far it appears that when one needs a power-off/on cycle, the other will as well.) When the problem is present, a document sent to the printer pops up in the queue list barely long enough to read the job description, and then it's *gone*; the system apparently thinks it went to the printer successfully, as no error message is presented.

So far, I have found precisely zero mention of anything relevant to this problem anywhere. I've got the hyperannoying (and incredibly TJFS) "automatic printer mismanagement" feature turned off, and... Read more

Hi guys,

Kind of annoying problem here... I have an HP LaserJet 1200 hooked up via USB to a Mac that is running 10.5 (Leopard). For the printer's first 5 years or so everything was great. I could get new computers set up to print to the printer with no troubles, until recently.

Recently, I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 and wanted to get the printer working again. I attempted to install the printer using the HP LaserJet 1200 PCL 6 printer drivers. It connected to the printer alright, but every time I printed it came out with a PCL XL Error: "Error: UnsupportedProtocol" instead of my document.

Now, every time I try to connect a new computer (Windows 7 or Windows XP, doesn't matter) the printer automatically installs the PCL 6 driver for the printer... which always prints out an error instead of the document I want. I can't find a way to manually choose the driver when I'm adding it because it's a network printer, not one that's locally hooked up.

I tried installing the PCL 5 driver manually, but the printer still ONLY wants the PCL 6 driver that gives me the errors. I tried to go to "Server Properties" while in Printers and Faxes to roll back the PCL 6 driver, but Windows can't find a driver to roll it back to.

Now, if I physically hook the printer up to the computer via a USB cable, it installs the PCL5 Driver and it works... but that's only when it's plugged directly in.

I'm extremely frustrated a... Read more

Lexmark E210 printer. Works fine and has back through early days of XP. XP Pro fully patched now running.

When SP2 was installed (the day it came out), began getting (on every boot) a window advising me that I needed to install sw for my printer. My presumption is this is caused by an unregistered (but working fine) driver that SP2 suddenly doesn't like and no way is Lexmark going to rewrite it or register it for a printer so old.

Tried all combinations of power on and off at boot, deinstalling printer, reinstalling printer, etc.

If I just hit cancel in the install sw window that the printer wizard brings up on boot all if fine but it is a PITA and I'd like to get rid of the prompt.

No similar request for installation of a Epson printer.

Both printers USB 1 connected.

Is there some bit in the registry I can set to ignore the fact that the driver is unregistered? Other ideas?

Answer:Printer Wizard Insists I Install Sw For A Printer That Works

The problem with Windows XP is that a lot of hardware and software no longer works with it. Now that SP2 is out there is more. The only suggestion that I have is to try running the printer under Windows 98 compatibility mode and see if that works. If that does not then I would suggest purchasing a new printer even though this one works after a fashion.

It is possible that  they have a workaround that would allow you to print for not until a full service driver becomes available. Lexmark X8350 - support.lexmark.com

All the computers in the house connect to the same router but the home pc's are in a workgroup. I have a work laptop that I need to get to share a printer in the house. The work laptop is part of a domain and does not see the printer or the home network. I hope I explained that correctly. How would I get the printer to be added to the work laptop without changing it from part of a domain to part of the workgroup?

Is there any other way to share this printer with the laptop? The printer is connected through another computer.

Answer:Laptop on domain, PC with printer on workgroup. How to share printer?

Not a problem,

On the laptop map to the share via UNC or straight to the machine

i.e.

PrintServer = PC name of the PC in your house that hosts the printer

Start > Run

\\PrintServer

On your laptop after 2-3 seconds a screen will show up with the printer being shown. Right click on the printer and click "connect" and you should be off to the races.

If you want to reference the Print Server by IP instead you just do...

\\192.168.1.xx (ip of the PC - make sure it is STATIC!)

Hope this helps...

A poster talked about his woes with a printer under Vista; I'm having the same problem with a Lexmark printer on a Gateway . Nearly every time I plug in the USB cable, Vista HP tells me it's searching for the driver software to install. Eventually it does install, with a new printer instance.

I've been through the drill with Lexmark tech support several times; I've downloaded their "cleanup" software to completely uninstall the drivers and then reinstalled, but with no success. Perhaps 75-80 percent of the time I connect the printer, I have to reinstall the drivers.

Lexmark techs also suggested that the BIOS might be out of date, which sounds dubious because Vista handles calls to the printer, not the BIOS. But in any case the BIOS is current.

I'll try the suggestion in the other thread to disable UAC and install, but would appreciate any other thoughts people may have.

When I tried to install a new Canon Pixma ip6220D printer on my Sony Vaio Windows XP Media Edition w/ SP2 desktop I receive an error that the computer cannot detect the printer after I hook-up the USB cable to the computer from the printer. This is after a balloon dialog appears in the system tray noting that new hardware was found - the hardware being a Canon ip6220D. The Canon software notes that it could not detect the printer and that there was a printer driver failure. Eventually a Windows error box appears noting that an error occurred installing the new hardware.

I have the same problem with a printer that previously had no problems. That printer is a HP Photosmart 3210xi.

I ran malware check using Threat Fire 3 which didn't find anything.

I have tried different USB ports with no success. I have tried USB ports that other devices use with no success.

Any suggestions on how to attack this problem would be appreciated.

I've recently bought a new laptop and have Windows 10 on it. I can't get my printer, a Canon Pixma MG4150, to fully work.Initially I just plugged in the printer. Windows would automatically install the drivers and it would succesfully print. However, it wouldn't scan. Therefore, I picked up the manual and read you should install the software on the cd-rom supplied together with the printer, before connecting the printer to the computer. So I uninstalled the printer from Devices, confirmed the printer is no longer listed under devices, and did a reboot with the printer disconnected from the computer (and turned off). Now I insert the printer's cd-rom and select to install the drivers from the menu that the cd-rom presents. This produces the following error message:"Printer driver is currently in use. If you are not using the printer driver, it may be used by other users on this computer. Exit all applications and printer properties and then try again. If you still have a problem, restart the computer and then try again."I don't know how to make this work. In the Task Manager, I don't see any applications that I suspect use the printer. Also rebooting and immediately starting the cd-rom, just produced the same error. Could it be that the operating system itself has the printer drivers in use... Any idea what to do?

Answer:Unable to install printer on Win10: Printer driver is in use

Forget about the CD disc. It probably does not have Windows 10 driver for the scanner. Head over to Canon web site and search for latest drivers compatible for Windows 10.i_Xp/Vista/W7/W10 Usermessage edited by XpUser

I purchased a new Alps 5500 printer to print water slid decals and have tried every thing I can think of to resolve the problem of the print file being left in the printer que (USB printer cable)after the file has completed printing. I then tried a parallel cable but was unable to print anything. (the operating system is windows XP professional.)

Option 1: Parallel printer cable
If I use a parallel printer cable and install the print drivers before plugging in the printer and turning it on, a window opens up entitled “Print to file”. Inside the window the curses is flashing next to a line entitled “output file name”. I have tried giving the output file a name and clicking OK but the file never prints. I don't know what name the printer is looking for.
If I use a parallel printer cable and let windows find the new device and then install the printer drivers, I get a “Printer Error Message” that reads “ Change printer Port to MD_LPTx. I have tried changing the printer port with no success.
Option 2: USB printer cable
I have tried using a USB printer cable to print but after printing a few files the printer fails to remove the file from the printer Que. The only way I have found that I can remove the file is to remove the printer drivers and reinstall them again.
I tried going to the service .msc window without success. (start/run and typing I “service.msc” and then going to the print spooler. I then went to prosperities and recovery tab and changed all three dro... Read more

I have a Del 1600N Multi function printer that has been in use (successfully) for about two years on my home network. The printer has a built in NIC and is connected via a dedicated 10BaseT line to my network. This printer was working just FINE until I decided to use it as a fax. Some how during that process I must have cleared the network configuration and it stopped being visible on my network.

After some investigation into this I was able to get it back on the network my manually assigning it an IP address. Using the supplied installation DVD, I was able to install the printer onto my two desktop computers (running XP Pro 32 bit) and it works just as well as before.

The problem occurs with my wife's Dell laptop. Before the great "fax fiasco" (as I like to call my stupid attempt to use this printer as a fax machine), the laptop was able to find and print to this printer with very little problems. Now, not so much!

When I went to re-install this printer the first time I made sure that the Dell Printer software was uninstalled (via Control Panel--Uninstall Programs). The first attempt seemed to be going fine. The software detected the printer on the network and it looked like a successful install. However, the test page did not print out! I checked in the "Printer Properties" to make sure that the printer was on line and sure enough, it was. But there was a troubleshooting alert that told me the document didn't print. After several ho... Read more

Answer:Dell 1600n Printer not showing up in Printer window

Well, I fixed it.

part of the problem is that the laptop in question has Windows 7 Home Edition. This version of Windows 7 is missing several of the administrative tools that come with Windows 7 Pro. So there is no way to access the PrintManagement.Msc to locate and delete the printer drivers that were not deleted by the Uninstall.

For this you need to first make sure you uninstalled the software, them to need to open Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Just locate the "Run" dialog box and type in "MMC". Another dialog box will show up. From the listing, locate the drivers you want to delete. There are two options. But I used the one that saws delete drivers and software.

Once they were gone I downloaded the latest 64bit drivers from Dell and then installed them. It worked like a charm.

I have a new Lenovo Windows 7 PC. I have a Brother MFC-9440CN printer directly attached to it via USB. Per instructions, I did NOT install any Brother software on the new PC. I just connected it via USB and the PC automatically installed the drivers, etc. Printing from that PC to the locally attached printer works like a champ. I have set up this printer via a network share (called BrotherMFC) so I can use this printer from other PCs.

I have a Dell desktop Windows XP PC (that used to be the computer that had this printer locally attached) and a Dell laptop with Windows Vista that I want to access this printer via the network. On each of these PCs, I have gone through the "Add a Printer" wizard and I selected network (vs. local) printer and find the printer share. However when I select the printer share and click OK, it appears to try and install software or something and says the printer driver on the printer server is incorrect. How can this driver be "incorrect" when it is the driver the new PC used to install? Is there a "special" driver the system needs to act as a printer server properly? Or is there any known compatibility issues of printing via a network share form Windows XP and Vista PCs to Windows 7?

I know the most optimum solution is to get a wireless print server, but this solution of using a network/printer share over the network has worked great and saves me having to spend $80/$100 on a wireless print server.

I was setting up some printers on a computer that were connected to the network.

Add a Printer > Local Printer (uncheck the box immediately below) > Create a Port: Standard TCP/IP Port

That's just how we do it. When I set up the ports, however, I did it wrong. Instead of 10.10.1.10, I created a port on 10.10.10.1 which leaves me with more ports than printers. Can't find the setting that lets me go in there and delete the ports.

I *can* go into a printer's properties, select the port with a checkbox, and delete the port. But that also deletes (and makes me reinstall) the printer. What's the trick to getting just these ports deleted from my machine?

I am having printer problems, and I am about to lose my mind. The printer is networked and  is an Epsom. I can get a test page to print, and only certain files, which are saved under an old users name(i.e., Pat Personal Files). I can not alter or add anything to any documents saved under this old users name and get the document to print. I did see a message (for a split second) saying that the information may be "read only protected". Also, I can get some information to print on an Excel worksheet (headers),but no information in the cells prints. What makes this a real challenge is that we do not posses any administrator passwords. The old Operations Manager has been fired and is under investigation(for alleged crimes). The organization I am trying to help is a non profit and does not have the money to hire real I.T. help (maybe in June 2010). There are many documents that I have to print on a daily bases...that would be a pain to enter on a different computer. And some of the old documents may need to be printed again for insurance and legal reasons. We use NT 4 and the documents are contained in Word 97.

Answer:Printer problems on a networked printer...NT4, Word 97, and no passwords.

The problem is not the network or the printer, it's the ownership of the files.  You have to logon as the Administrator and take ownership of the "fired employee's" account.Google "windows NT file permissions".

I have an older IBM Aptiva 333 M Hz that I just upgradedfrom Windows 98 Basic(with all updates) to Windows XP SP2. The Aptiva is hardwired to a router and Lexmark X6100 Printer. A laptop and homemade computer are connected via wireless to the router, both are running Windows 98 Second Edition. The network works properly for File Sharing. Network Neighborhood on both the wireless computers see that there is a shared printer on the Aptiva. To both wireless computers the printer always appears to be OFFLINE. The printer operates properly with the XP updated Aptiva Prior to the upgrade, with the Aptiva on Win98 Basic and the two wireless computers on Win98 Second Edition, all network functions operated correctly, including printer sharing.

Hello,
Im sorry if this question has already been posted, i tried searching and couldn't find the answer in this forum.
I have a question, maybe someone can direct me to a tutorial somewhere, or to another topic that contains instructions on how to do this....

well, I just got a new router, and 2 desktops are connected to it, and i have 3 wireless laptops.
They are all connected to the internet via the router.
I have also connected my hp office jet 7310 printer to my router since it has an ethernet port.
how do i make it, so every computer on my network can print from this one printer?
the other thing is since its connected to the router directly, i dont want to have the printer connected to any computer via usb, so can someone please direct me to a tutorial in which all my computers can print from this one printer which is connected to the router via a direct Ethernet cable?

thank you so much!

Read more

Answer:Documents sent to printer just vanish unless printer is power cycled

Update: The problem can be present on just one of the printers and not the other(s), it can definitely appear without having had the system restart, and it has now also appeared on the third connected printer, an Epson RX595. All three printers are USB-connected direct to ports on this system; no network issues should be involved. The power profile is set to keep this system from sleeping or hibernating; it runs 24/7. The most frequent appearances of the problem are with the 1430 and the iP6000D; the RX595 has been pretty much free of this issue. The fact that power-cycling the *printer* provides a workaround is just weird.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me and give me a step-by-step instruction how to synchronize MS Outlook 2007 with the printer HP Office Jet Pro 8500?

All I want to accomplish is to make a 'Scan to Email' and MS Outlook being the program responsible for it and therefor automatically should open. I had done this with dozens of printers but somehow can't get it accomplished with the HP Office Jet Pro 8500.

What I do is:

- Click 'Scan' (on the printer touch-screen menu)
- Click 'Scan to Email' (on the printer touch-screen menu)

Then, the following message appears:

No Network Connection
To use this feature, the All-In-One must be connected to the network
For more information, see the documentation

I DO NOT want a network connection or anything. I just want MS Outlook to be the responsible program..... plain and simple - nothing fancy or special...

Everything else, fax, printer & copy, work without any problems at all.

Please help....

Thanks a lot,
Manny

I am trying to load printer drivers from the original disk for an HP 5510 multi-function printer onto the printer server of a Buffalo LinkStation LS-VL 1TB NAS Drive. I am using the Add a Printer Wizard and everything goes smoothly until I am asked to choose the appropriate printer driver from a list of different manufacturers and models. As I do not see my model listed under HP, I click the "Have Disk" button and a dialogue box which reads from the D:\ (my CD-ROM drive) pops-up and when I click "Browse" another dialogue box pops-up which lists some folders and files on the CD including autorun.inf. However, when I choose this file to install the drivers, I get a message that says the "disk does not contain information about your printer" and refuses to install. Any ideas?

(Please note that I was able to install this printer seamlessly on 2 Windows 7 machines, and 1 Windows Vista machine using the same procedure. These machines are on the same network with the same NAS hanging off it.)

Answer:Downloading Printer Driver from Disk in Add Printer Wizard

You need to pick the inf file for the driver that you want to install. It is probably further down in the folders possibly under your operating system.

But it is never a good idea to use the software that comes with hardware. It is old, often first release, often buggy, and sometimes not even compatible with some updates. Go to the site and get the latest package.

I have a hp computer connected to a wireless linsky router and printer server. The computer starts printing for a while then it stops. When I look in my print jobs it shows the info is waiting to be printed and sometimes it says printer paused. The only way I can get it to print the jobs listed is to restart my computer and it automatically prints all the jobs. Also, if I go in to cancel the jobs it will not print anything until I restart.

Answer:Network printer stops printing/ or says printer pause

How are you connected? By what sort of network and what is the device in the printer to which you plug the network card.
This is fairly common in our area with those using Belkin Wireless.
But we find that most clients are not properly connecting everything in the network... using the Microsoft and HP network troubleshooting usually cures the problem.

I use Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. My problem is: Whenever I try to print something (word, pdf, or any other file); printer spooler stops working and when I check the “Devices and Printers” all the printer drivers seem to be disappeared.

I checked the “Print Spooler” in the “Services” tool; and set the "Recovery after subsequent failures" option to “Restart the Service”. Therefore all the printer drives coma back after 1 minute. However the spooler stops immediately again when the uncompleted printing job starts; hence I can not print anything more than a page.

Earlier in this forum, someone posted that Microsoft issued a hotfix for this problem ( hotfix 2388142) which can be downloaded from article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2388142.

I downloaded this hotfix and tried to install, however it gives an error message of: “The update is not applicable to your computer” and quits installation.

I did uninstall and reinstall all the printer drives, but this did not help either.
Any suggestion?
Thanks,

Yeah, I had the same issue. Even when I went into services and restarted it, it would shut back down and the printers would disappear. I tried working with the registry like a few suggested, but didn't help. The only fix that worked for me was to go back about a week on the restore point, and then all the printers reappeared and worked...

We have a Canon iP3500 connected to a desktop running XP Home SP2. The desktop connects wirelessly to our router. I have laptop running Vista Basic SP1 with a wired connection to the router. The printer is shared and almost all programs running on the laptop can print to the iP3500 with no problem.

One of the software packages that came with the printer, "Canon Easy PhotoPrint EX", installed with no problem on the laptop. When I try to run the program, a pop-up box reports "Printing cannot be executed because a printer supported by the software is not installed." I can click OK to continue running the program but can not print anything. Canon tech support has confirmed that the software does not support a shared Canon printer on another computer.

I had thought I had come across a utility over a year ago (before we purchased the printer) that would map a shared printer on another computer to appear as a local USB connected printer. Trying to use Google to find the program is giving me way too many hits on web pages with discussions on general USB printer sharing issues on networked computers.

Does anybody know of such a program and provide a link please?

I have a computer running Win 10 that has a Canon Imageclass MF8280CW printer installed over a network (cat5e). Since I've had it it would periodically go offline, and I would have to uninstall and reinstall it to get it to work. I tried changing one of the port settings in the printer properties from WSD Port to Canon MFNP Port. This didn't resolve the issue. So I switched it back to WSD (which is the installation default). Here's the weird thing, when I went to reinstall the printer after it going offline again, now it keeps coming up in Devices and Printers as MF8200C Series (Copy 1), even though it's the only instance of that printer. I've removed it, done a registry sweep, restarted, and reinstalled, but still the same thing. I even tried going into regedit and removing anything I could find under HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> Printers that pertained to Canon, still nothing. I'm stuck. When a printer is added, where does Windows register it?

HP's LaserJet's, at least my model 4 and 4+, come with or without
a postscript interpreter. With the PS interpreter it an "m" is added
to the printer model. Adding one of these printers to windows
(for several versions) presents the administrator with several
driver options including:

1) HP LaserJet 4 Plus
2) HP LaserJet 4M Plus
3) HP LaserJet 4M Plus PS 300
4) HP LaserJet 4M Plus PS 600

OK, I understand the basics but not the details and effects of
selecting one driver over another.

Certainly if I select 1) the system will assume the printer has no PS
interpreter and only send PCL output to the printer. But, If I select
2) does that also mean PostScript will never be sent to the printer
as there are PS specific selections in 3) and 4)?

Conversely for 3) or 4) will only PS be sent, with everything
else converted by the driver?

And why resolution specific entries only for 3) and 4). Certainly you
can use either resolution in PCL mode also.

Should I enter 2 separate printers, one for the PCL output and one for PS output? The printer will automatically switch depending on
that is sent to it. Maybe additional ones for "draft" and "final" qualities too
Although I'm using my HP printers as an example, the same lack of
information exists for other printers as they have multiple drivers too. There seems little information available as to the effects or the
reasons for selecting one or another if you have the choice.

Hi,

I have an MX850 and an MX870 printer both connected to my LAN.

I also use an application called CD Label Print. When I started that program I noticed that there were 3 MX850 printers listed, the original and a (Copy 1) and (Copy 2).

So I went to devices and printers and saw there was a MX850 and a MX850 (Copy 2). No (Copy 1). So I removed the (Copy 2) printer and fax.

I went back to CD Label print and saw that it still said MX850 and MX850 (Copy 1).

Went back to devices and printers and sure enough, MX850 was gone and MX850 (Copy 1) was present. So I pressed F5. It changed to MX850. Press F5 again, it changed back to MX850 (Copy 1).

It changes non-stop. It alternates betweem the two settings every time I press F5.

How do I fix this?

oh, btw; I've tried uninstall re-install. I've also contacted Canon support who are dumbfounded. I also had to manually remove the registry entries and start menu entries because the canon uninstaller doesn't so it.

And.. I cannot use CD Label print. Each time I try to print a label it insists on asking where to save the file, rather than printing it.

thanks
Tanya

Greetings,

We have a brand new Windows 2008 R2 x64 terminal server. Additionally, we have a Windows Server 2003 x86 print server. All prints to the 2003 server are problem-free and print fine. However, because we have upgraded most of the company's computers to 64-bit Windows 7 and moved many users from PCs to the 2008 R2 x64 server, we've been forced due to resource constraints and perhaps to some degree 'bad planning' to use the 2008 R2 x64 server as a print server for x64 machines and users.

Using the latest HP Universal Drivers, when users print to many of the printers at the office (through the 2008 R2 x64 server), they get an extra page with this garbage printed to it [1]:

So, we thought, "it must be cause these printers are so darn old that even though HP says the UPD supports these models, it obviously doesn't! We need to upgrade office printers anyway because none of the printers here support automatic duplex."

So, we got a new printer: HP LaserJet 2055dn (networked, supports auto-duplex)

Low and behold, the problem is not solved by getting a new printer. We only bought one so that we can diagnose the situation and get it solved before upgrading the entire office's printers. When replacing, we just created a new TCP/IP printer port ... Read more

Answer:New network printer prints out garbage like old printer :(

Try not using the universal driver.

I'll tell you thought that we have the EXACT same setup as you and ours work fine. We have 2008 R2 servers running XP clients with HP 2055dn's. We use the UPD PCL5 and everything works great.

Also, why is using the 2008 R2 server bad planning to use as a print server? Ours work great.

Will I save sys resources if I disable it(in BIOS)?

Also COM ports...do I need them if I use a network card?

Answer:Do I need ECP printer port enabled when I have USB connected printer?

No u dont.
Neither com ports if you're not using them.

But tho may save some resouses - I believe they will be negligable.

Wont hurt to disable them tho - you can always re-enable.
