Solved: Acronis keeps asking for activation after activation

Question: Solved: Acronis keeps asking for activation after activation

Hi guys , I installed ATI 2010 Home, Boxed version made a backup image to external HDD. got a message saying I had 30 days to activate trial version? I restored the backup image and I activated ATI , offline, I then received a message saying thanks successfully installed. When I access ATI now I get the same box asking for activation again. the options are Try out, Buy, Activate, Cancel . I was thinking of reactivating online , but am wary of further messing up the install . I have not registered the product yet , Had a look at the Acronis register page ( they tell you Not recommended to access the page) ? Any ideas with this one ? options uninstall , reinstall? Try activate online? Anyone experienced this problem?

Preferred Solution: Solved: Acronis keeps asking for activation after activation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there all,

My situation is that I have 65 Dell M4800 Laptops, one of these laptops I use as the master laptop to build a Master image for the other 65 laptops. Every month I have to perform a system update to the master image with software and program updates that have changed. From there I then take a new master image and use Acronis to move the image to the other 64 laptops.

I have a copy of Windows 7 Enterprise with office 2010 both with an unlimited corporate licence. for both applications.

The issue I am having is that when I take a copy of the master laptop with Acronis 14.0 then restore the image to the other laptops, I have to keep activating both Windows and Office on ever laptop. My other issue is that I cant connect these laptops to the Internet either so I have to use the phone activation process.

What I am trying to find out is the following;
1. Does Windows change its activation codes for telephone activation every time for the same laptop.

2. If the activation codes are the same ever time, is there a way to have all the codes in a file that the system is able to look up and activate after the reimage.

3. If the codes do change then does anyone have a way to capture the codes and automate this process some how.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Activation of Windows 7 after Re-image using Acronis

The problem here is that the MAC address is unique to each machine - and carries a lot of weight in the Activation scheme.
Changing MAC address will almost always cause a request to re-activate.

To avoid this problem you should use the proper installation procedures, rather than just cloning the drive.

This is relatively new experience for me and I have spent some time Googling for solutions.

A friend of mine upgraded his genuinely activated Windows 8 Pro Parallels virtual machine to Windows 10 Pro. After the upgrade, he finds that his Windows 10 Pro is not activating. When I check, the error 0xC004C003 states that the activation is being blocked.

A common suggestion I have encountered was to install the OS from scratch, but that isn't practical in this situation. I am also aware that with Windows 10 the licensing is based on unique hardware identification, which makes me feel that this might affect virtual machine installations due to the nature of virtualizaiton, but surely Microsoft had thought about this before rolling out Windows 10 with the new licensing scheme (or at least I hope).

Another suggestion I read and tried was "slrmgr.vbs /rearm" --> reboot --> "slrmgr.vbs /ato". I still receive the same error. I also tried "slrmgr.vbs /ipk Windows8KeyHere" but it didn't work. I received an error code "0xc004e016" about the key being invalid.

Any ideas?

If he doesn't want to reinstall, call Microsoft's licensing number and complain.

hi all

is SLP loader functions the same as windows activator?

i'm using Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as my OS. currently, it's already prompting and i have 27-days left for activation

this all happened when i initiate System Recovery using the same CD installer i used to setup the same computer almost 3-years ago. i did so as it hung-up and i can't managed even to go into Safe Mode, as well, the so called Last Known Good Configuration but still to no avail

i used the same CD Key i used initially before but it won't accept or recognized it where it states that if my CD Key was right and still not updating then i should telephone Microsoft

can i do that when i'm not in the continental USA much more these computer was registered not under my name since it's only a hand-me-down or surplus which is beneficial to me

so i'm looking for SLP loader or windows activator (if it function the same way) intended for Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as it may resolve my issue

hope it's okay to inquire and that if it's not advisable to reply post in here, i welcome it through PM

Answer:windows activation (27-days left for activation)

If it's a valid key, you should have no problem calling MS to re-activate Windows.

It should give you an option to pick which country you're from on the activation window, and then a number to call.

Hi there
I recently changed a MOBO from an INTEL based one to one using an AMD PHENOM processor -- W7 didn't want any new activation rather surprisingly. (Broken Mobo and I had a spare ASUS MOBO lying around).

However the first time I switched to using a LAN cable instead of a Wifi USB adapter I got the "Hardware has changed - please activate windows. OK it activated fine -- however seems strange to me that a MOBO change didn't call for any activation (Disks, memory, DVD device etc were canaballized from the old machine) but a simple switch from Wifi to a LAN did. !!! The internal logic of the activation process seems totally illogical and bizarre. (Running W7 x-64 ULTIMATE). !!!

Answer:W7 activation -- new MOBO fine but LAN connection wants activation

Hi Gents,

Hope someone can help me here. I've been using a retail version of Win7 Home premium 64 for about 2 years now with no issues.

During that time I've reinstalled the product possibly 6 or 8 times. Excessive I know but when things start to go wrong I like to start fresh again. Anyway from memory the last 2 times I have had to use phone activation.

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my laptop and killed the HDD. Put in a new one and reinstalled Win. I've just tried to activate with no luck. I went to phone activation and being lazy I typed in my old code I had saved from last time.

Now I can't activate and when I try and open the phone activation box I get a pop up from the toolbar saying the copy isn't genuine and nothing more.

Is there a way to resolve this or have I pissed off the activation so much that I actually have to shell out for a new copy?

Thanks in advance and I'm located in Thailand if that makes a difference.

I had to to do clean install and it was from my original official backup disc so I'm not sure what the problem is?

Maybe you bought an upgarde disc and not a full install disc.

In Sept., 2009 I purchased an HP Pavilion desktop preloaded with a Vista home premuim OS(64 bit) and it came with a free upgrade disk for Windows 7. At that time I did not choose to upgrade as Vista seemed to work fine. A few weeks ago something happened to my system and I thought I was going to have to replace the hard drive. I decided to try to reformat the hard drive and see if that would work before buying a new hard drive. As I still had the free upgrade disk for the Win 7, I installed it also. Surprisingly it worked, and with Tech Guy's help I have been able to get Win 7 running and I have all of my records restored.

I have been receiving messages that I must activate Win 7 in xx number of days or I will lose features of Win 7.I do not know what the activation key is or how to retrieve it. The sleeve or case that the Win7 disk came in has either been thrown away or misplaced during one of my wife's office cleanups.HP support offers no help and the same with Microsoft support.

What features will I lose ?
What are my options ?
What would I need to purchase, another Win 7 upgrade or a full version Win 7? Win 8 ?

Here I am again with the same problem as before. I keep running into a wall using WLO help and support. My problem is this, some where down the road I had downloaded a trial version of WLO to only be plagued with not being able to use the subscription for WLO that I do have and if that is not enough, WLO is letting me know that I am up for renewal here real quick. I have just paid for my current version of WLO about a month ago VIA card. I do not want to get billed again. I had just re-installed Vista on to my computer along with WLO. I had tried to enter the new ID# but it had stated that in order to re-install on the same computer I needed to use the same ID# as used for the first install. I figure that I am going to have to install a trial version and THEN put in the correct ID# when asked. Now, if I do install a trial version and use the correct ID# will it even be necessary to contact anyone because if all goes as planned it should not recognize any other install of WLO. It's all about getting the correct ID# to work. The number that shows up on my installed version is not the number showing in my account, that's why I figure if I can get the correct number to work all should be good, wishful thinking.
Thanks for your time, DONK

So I recently built a computer and installed Windows XP. I validated it and it ran fine for 3 weeks. Now when I boot it up there is a prompt that says I have 7 days to validate product and asks if I want to do it now. I hit yes and it brings me to my desktop and a prompt that says this product has already been validated. That is a pain but doesn't hinder me. However, now neither of my mice work. When I try them in other computers they work fine. When I plug it into my new computer it beeps and says new hardware, and the mouse is able to move for like 2 secs then freezes up. Could this have something to do with the whole validating thing. It is very frustrating. What can I do?

On my new XP/Pro system, if I enter ...

All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Activate Windows

.... it tells me that Windows is already activated. Great!!

I've just reloaded XP/Home in my old system, and there is no apparent way to activate the operating system. The "Activate Windows" item just isn't on the System Tools menu. All the Microsoft help and KB articles seem to assume that it would be there.

Now, somewhere up there in MS Land someone must like me, because I've just downloaded and applied over 90 patches to the basic Windows XP/SP2 OS ... and not once did it ask me about activation.

I'm going to give this computer to a computer novice in the next week or two. And she will not know what to do if she is asked about "activation."

Opps ... I'm the one that is lost! Just found out that using the Run command I can enter "oobe/msoobe /a" and it bring up the Activation window.

The strange thing is that it says the system is activated. I KNOW I didn't activate it, so that remains a mystery, but apparently it is no problem that requires solving.

I've been fooling around with computer all my life and at times they are a total mystery to me. Oh well ....

Is this something I should be concerned with?

Answer:Solved: Activation -- Lost ??

What is the make and model of the computer in question?

Was this the legal recovery software for the computer?

Some computers that are OEM the software automatically authenticates its self or is already authenticated. Going to the OEM web site and checking thru the FAQ's or tech support should be able to find out if this is the case....

Had to re-install WinXP Pro SP1 over WinXP SP2.
Initially I used a copy of WinXP Pro w/SP1 & used the repair option. Now whenever I restart the machine, it states that "This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?".
I click on OK & go through the routine of activating over the internet or calling and entering the code received over the phone, both with & without registering with Microsoft, and it closes with "You have successfully activated you copy of Windows.".
Then I re-start, or shut down & turn it back on and the same sequence recurs.
I have even slipstreamed SP2 into my SP1 copy & re-installed using the repair option. Same result.
Does anyone know how can I get out of this loop without having to wipe out my Windows directory with all of my saved settings & installed programs?

I have needed to reinstall my copy of Windows XP because it was taken down by some weird recurring BSOD telling me the video driver got stuck in an infinate loop. I tried reinstalling Windows, but I got error message 45092:

According to our records, the number of times you can activate Windows with this product key has been exceeded.

I tried calling Microsoft, but the CD key they gave me did not work. It tells me the product key is invalid.

If anyone could tell me where I can get a valid CD key without a full new purchase of Windows, I would greatly appreciate it. I don't want to go back to ugly Windows 7.

Answer:Solved: Windows XP Activation

The only places where you can get a valid Key are:
1)Recall MS and explain your situation
2)Buy one
3)If a friend of yours who has the Same Windows XP product as yours i.e. XP Home or XP Pro and is No Longer using it because he or she bought the Full version of either Vista or Win7 and has Uninstalled their XP, then that friend can pass your their key code.

And Win7 is not ugly, you can Custumize it to your liking.

I had to reinstall a computer with Win2000 Pro because the hard drive failed.

Am confused about the need to reactivate this copy of Win2000. The reinstall was on the same computer with the same hardware, same product key code. I can't find any information on the Microsoft website for what to do with Win2000, it is all either XP or Vista. The only thing that changed was a reinstall on a new drive, the drive is a different size, model, etc from what was previously installed.

How to I check on the computer what the activation status is??? They do not give the information for Win2000. If I right click Computer and Check on the Properties, it gives a Registered User number. Appears to be what I had before.

How do I do an activation procedure or will it start in 3 days automatically. Do I even need too??? They say in one page that it usually only required if both the hard drive and memory are changed out at once. Very confusing.

What number do I use to call Microsoft if it needs to be done via telephone.

I just had a new Motherboard installed in my Dell 6720 laptop and everything works great again. With a new MB I now have a new Product Key for the OS. Following is the sequence of my current problem.

1. I had been running on an SSD cloned from the original HDD. I removed the SSD and installed the original HDD to get the computer repaired by Dell.
2. After completion of the repairs, I used the new Product Key to activate Windows successfully on the original HDD.
3. Reinstalled the SSD and booted up normally.
4. Had occasion to reboot numerous times never thinking to activate Windows again on the SSD.
5. Now when SSD is installed windows will not boot. Powering up results in immediate display of UEFI boot Options menu.

Query... Is there some limit on how many times the OS can be booted before windows activation is required? Is there, in fact, any relationship between failure to boot and windows activation?

Answer:Solved: Windws Activation

NO - there is no relationship between how many times the system can be booted and activation.
HOWEVER in windows 8 of course as part of their continuing battle against piracy Microsoft included in the programming a requirement that windows 8 be activated before it could be used.

Normally this is done automatically as soon as the system is booted and connected to the internet.

although an HP thread this is very relevant

In your case, the new motherboard is a hardware change that requires re-activation - therefore that is why the new product key, embedded in the firmware, I think - is then used.

The reason as I see it why the SSD now goes direct to the UEFI boot options is not per se the lack of activation, but because the replacement of the HDD with the SSD and the setting of the UEFI was not correctly carried out

That all said, you can presumably replace the hard drive and boot back to that - I hope.

One aspect that confuses me is that this was posted by you

I just finished formatting and reloading XP Pro on a Dell 2400 machine and have a few questions. After installing Xp, there wasn't any window popping up saying to activate and I also tried to run "oobe/msoobe/a" and it said that it couldn't be found. Does this mean that since it is a Dell XP disk, activation is not necessary or it is built into the bios? This computer belongs to my mother-in-law and they are not connected to the internet. I had to reload because after the dell splash window, the screen just stayed dark so I also would like to know if this is what happens without activation. TIA

Answer:Solved: XP Activation Question

Many OEM versions of XP that are shipped with the PC, are BIOS locked and unable to be loaded on any other PC, so activation is unneccessary.

Sounds like your case exactly.

If it was required, you would get a pop-up telling you, and finally stopping you logging on.

I have windows 7 that failed activation. Here is the situation. Way back when it first came out I purchased
the family 3 pack of Windows 7 Home Premium. I have it on 2 computers and had it on a 3rd but no longer. I made the mistake of thinking (like most normal people would) that I could have it on 3 computers at any given time as long as I
didn't try to put it on more than 3 at any time I was good to reinstall it since I had it on only 2 computers.
As I'm sure many of you know (I did not) that you only can install it once so the 3rd computer will not activate
as it's already been installed.

The problem is how can I get this activated without doing a complete install. I have purchased Windows 7 Home
Premium system builders (coming in the mail). Does anyone know if I can use the key from that to activate
Win 7 Home that is installed without have to do a complete install again.

Hello , i recently upgraded my OS to Windows Vista Home Basic Sp2 32 bit, in my hp compaq netbook.
It has been 27 days and i have to activate windows within 3 days, well , i opened windows activation , i entered my product key , which is in the bottom of my netbook , i clicked next but an error appeared saying that my product key isn't a Windows Vista Home Basic Compatible Key, so i inserted my Windows installation cd , i found the product key listed in it for my computer , but with no luck.
Any ideas? :/ I only have 3 days. Does anyone know what will happen if i dont activate windows within these 3 days?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your system will fail to load windows and you wont be able to use it.

Is the COA key on the sticker for Vista Home Basic 32bit?
is the installation version you used the same as for the key, OEM vs Retail etc?

I uninstalled Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2009 on an XP Pro SP3 machine so that I could install a different security suite.

After uninstalling Trend Micro (but before installing the new suite) I restarted the machine. On restart I received a warning that the hardware on the machine had changed significantly and that I needed to reactivate Windows. Reactivation was completed without any problems.

However, I am rather confused as to how uninstalling a security suite could result in an apparant significant change to the hardware when there had in fact been no change to the hardware for several months.

I would like to understand what caused this problem.

Thanks for your feedback.

Answer:Solved: Windows Activation

Maybe Trend Micro can give you specifics on their site. But security suites typically perform major changes to your operating system. For a reason only known to Trend Micro, theirs alters it in such a way that Windows believes a hardware change has been made.

Hi all,

I've got a bit of problem with my main computer, regarding activating Windows. I did a format and a reinstall recently, and when I went to activate Windows, I found I'd run out of activations. So, I proceeded to buy a new copy of Windows (as per Microsoft's instructions). When it finally arrived today, I had 2 days left to activate, so I ran through the procedure and typed in the new product key - Windows accepted it fine and all was good. I was able to use the computer fine for quite some time, until I turned it off before dinner tonight.

When I turned it back on just now, Windows got to the login screen, and prompted me to activate it, saying I had to do so before it would let me use it. Activating over the net wouldn't work, as it wouldn't let me log on (duh, Microsoft), so I called and got a key over the phone. That went fine, and Windows thanked me for activating it - and then proceeded to log me out, and prompt me for activation again.

That's where I'm at right now. If I click yes to activate Windows, it just gives me a message saying Windows is already activated, before punting me back out to the login screen, and prompting me to activate again. What's going on??? Is there any way of salvaging this install, or am I going to have to reinstall from scratch? I have quite a few games installed, and would rather not have to install them all again if it can be helped, although I can't see any other option at this point...

Thanks for any help you can give.

Answer:[SOLVED] XP Activation Problems

No way should you have had to buy a new copy because you "ran out of activations." What the hell business is it of M$ how many times a customer installs the software that he's payed for. If you pay for a software, you should be able to install it as many times as you want for as long as you want and you should be able to upgrade your PC as much as you please. The M$ EULA should be illegal.

No onto your query... Maybe you can do a repair install and get another chance to activate it.

First let me say I'm 51 and not too computer savvy. I'm an avid photographer; and use CS2 quite a bit. It is a legal copy that I purchased..

At the persuasion of my son's friend, I did a registry cleaning with "Registry Mechanic".

Deleted a whack of stuff....I know......

Here's my problem...

Photoshop CS2 started getting a pop up ..after I try to open it.

"Adobe Activation:

You are not allowed to continue because your account does not have the proper priviledges. Please log in using an account with administrator privileges & try again"
It then shuts down.

I tried to un-install the program (Son's friend's idea again)..then I re-installed CS2.
Installed ok..Registered ok...But then I get that darn pop up when I want to use it..Even tried to do a Restore to an earlier point (Vista)...It would not even restore back.

I need expert help;

Much appreciated.

I have a Dell D600 that I recently replaced the motherboard in. It had been down for a little over a year and after I updated everything it worked fine. I probably didn't use it for 5 or 6 days and today when I went to log on a small screen opened on the log in page while it was loading my settings. It had a red circle with a white x and a button bar that said okay. If you close the box or click on okay it immediately logged me off and I could not get windows to open.

After searching the web on another computer I started the d600 in safe mode and was able to get windows up. It says my copy of windows is not activated and to be properly licensed I need to activate it. Problem is it does not show up under system tools so I can't start the activation wizard. I've also tried safe mode with command prompt and am unable to activate that way. I tried to get some help from microsoft, but couldn't get a phone number to any one I could speak to directly.

Alright, let me start out by saying that I'm an idiot. All of these problems stem from me being a dumbass and trying to fix my problems by myself rather than asking someone who knows better, so I'm trying a slightly different angle this time, i.e. asking people who are hopefully smarter than myself.

A while back, I was having some trouble with my laptop (a Toshiba, if that makes any difference), and I thought that the problem might be solved by reinstalling Windows Vista. I had the disc to do so, so I thought I'd try it out. Unfortunately, I installed the wrong version - Windows Vista Home Basic instead of Windows Vista Home Premium. Because I'm a lazy *******, I put off dealing with the activation until the 30 day time limit was up. Now I can't access my computer at all, and the product key I have will only work for activating Windows Vista Home Premium, not Basic.

So, here's the question: How do I reinstall Premium when my computer won't do anything besides opening the activation window? I have the disc I need and I have the product key, but I can't use either of them at the moment.

When I download a software, and I have to click the url in the email sent to me, inorder for the activation to take effect, the activation page does not appear but the software does download. I tried deleting and downloading again, and the same problem appears.
Moreover I have 2 desktops sharing one modem. I downloaded the software from x country on to computer 1 and started using it. Then I tried downloading the same software from y country on to computer 2 with a different userid, password and email too so as to not experience any conflicts. The activation page did not appear but the software got downloaded. However when I restarted the computer 2, the entire software along with the changes and the updated work which was done on computer 1 appeared on computer 2.

I contacted the ISP and inquired if there was a problem with the modem but the reply was negative. I contacted the PC manufacturer who said the problem was beyond their scope.

We have the latest version Norton 360 installed. Your valuable advice and suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks for taking the trouble of reading and replying.

I installed a new CPU on my desktop pc yesterday and it worked fine when I turned it on. I had restarted the pc a couple of times yesterday and everything still worked fine. I turned it off for the night and this morning when I logged into my account I was asked to activate my version of windows, in short "due to some problem, because it couldn't verify the version being used". Windows is now working with a 16bit palette, and looks more like a Commodore64 than a Pentium4.
I can't access safe mode because it says I must activate first so I am stuck in a pseudo windows environment. I only managed to access my files through a workaround I read about on internet, pressing Windows+U and opening the IE link.

I tried activating through the internet but it's no use. I have tried to repair windows but in vain, I must have repaired windows at least 4 times today and installed a fresh installation of it too which works fine, without activation problem and all.

Can someone suggest what I may do? In the older installation of win xp I have some important settings which I don't want to lose, if I could transfer them to the new installation my problem would be solved but I have no clue how to do this, could I perhaps copy something from the registry? what and how?

Apart from this, the most important problem, why can't I activate windows if I managed to do this with the other installation? isn't this absurd? help

I'm not asking how to bypass it (a.k.a. crack programs)

i'm asking how to activate the damn thing the legal way. It appears no matter whether I try both product keys or phone the automated service, it states it is not a valid product key blah blah.

The issue is the fact that i've merged two old computers together (taking Vid card from 1, RAM from the other, Hard drive from 1, CD drives from other) and the validation is having a canary over that fact. I've tried both product keys from the machines which merged into one, and i've tried phoning the support line for my country.

What the heck do I do? I'm very tempted to just go through a slew of viruses until I find a program (like removeWAT, except that's pretty well gone now because of microsoft) that works. I mean, why is it basically easier to crack a system than talk to microsoft and get them to fix their ********?

This is ludicrous.

Advice on what part of microsoft to contact regarding windows activation would be much appreciated, since apparently the ones i'm trying aren't working appropriately. A REAL person would be preferred also, as that would make things much easier to deal with. Since the automated system doesn't understand sometimes people like to UPGRADE old machines.

Hello all,

Just recently tried a repair install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit to fix some other problems I had. Initially, I bought the upgrade .iso for $60 direct from Microsoft's student site, downloaded it and burned it to a DVD. I upgraded from a 32 bit XP Home edition so I had to do a clean install. This was months ago, and I'd been doing fine since then.

When I tried to do the repair install, I found the DVD and the original XP product key I'd stuck inside the case. Windows wanted to reactivate after the install, and I tried the key, but it says its invalid! My question is, is there an extra upgrade key I'm missing here? I'm pretty sure the key I used the first time was the XP key and it worked fine. Tried to do Microsoft's phone activation but they said I'd need to reinstall XP and then use the upgrade disk again. There's no way I have the disk, I don't even remember if it was retail or OEM.

EDIT: oh yeah. Will reverting to windows.old solve my activation problems

Hi. Im an old XP user whos spent a lot of time to get XP on my 7 machine. However, I had to repair XP recently and I noticed it reset activation. I tried activating, and I noticed my XP cd no longer would work because its been used too much. Now, not only do I not know where to get another CD key, but it says
"Unable to establish a connection to the activation servers"

as well as a messenger that came with xp and worked less than a month ago says

"The .NET Messenger service is temporarily unavailable"

To sum it up:

Where can I get a new key

Is this an error or did MS decide to end online support for XP?

I am no longer having a problem, but am posting this as information for those who have this error.

I installed Windows 7 Professional with SP1 (retail) on a work computer that connects to the internet using a proxy server that uses basic authentication. I configured the proxy server settings in Internet Explorer, and then attempted to activate Windows 7 using an Internet connection. This failed with error 0x8004FE33, because the Activation Wizard doesn't offer to let the user enter their authentication credentials.

I decided to activate using the phone, but there was no option displayed in the Activation Wizard to activate Windows using any method other than Internet (despite a couple of Microsoft support articles saying there is a "Show me other ways to activate Windows" option, it isn't there).

After a couple of Google searches, I learned to click Start, then Run, and type slui 4 in the Run box, which opens the Activate Windows by phone window. From there you choose a country, which then displays a phone number to call and the required installation ID.

Hope this helps someone.

My problem: I installed NIS from the wrong install file, and now it is running with the wrong activation key. How can I change the activation key?

How did this happen?: This installation package that I used by mistake was downloaded for someone else, burned to a cd and installed on their computer. Now we both have the same activation key - I am worried that liveupdate will block the key and both me and my friends will have no access to liveupdate. I really want to have the right key on my computer!! (and access to 365 days that I paid for - they already used about 79 days of their subscription.

Any ideas? - I am hoping to avoid re-installing from scratch.

Answer:Solved: NIS 2006 wrong activation key

Not sure I can answer your question ... You may just have to wait and see.
I don't think you'll be able to re-install ... using the same norton version.

Recently - I tried to extend my Norton subscription by re-installing it - using a new (unused) copy I had of the same version.
Last year I watched for sales and found a couple of freebees ... so I had a spare.

It wouldn't let me input the new serial. I'm thinking this was because it saw that the same version (Works/Firewall 2005) was previously installed.

Norton is getting as bad as M$ ... one copy/serial per computer.
There is a limited number of activations.
Playing around - I have reloaded several HDs and Norton wouldn't activate because I had used up my subscriptions.
They wouldn't tell me how many was allowed ... but reactivated me which gave me another years worth.

I do have the same copy installed on a couple of computers - so I'm thinking ... Don't mess with it unless you have to...
and say your prayers.

Recently I bought a new DELL laptop Inspiron 1501 with Windows Vista Home Basic OEMAct installed. I started the laptop when I got home, but the installation language was in Hungarian, I do not understand Hungarian and have little knowledge of laptops so I clicked enter to start installation hoping that the windows would be in English, but after the installation I discovered that my windows was in Hungarian. I was told that I skipped the place to change the language at the earlier stage. I tried "system restore", but that couldn't solve it. Then I had to reinstall the window vista with my friend's cd ram English version of windows vista home basic but not OEMAct like mine though I installed it with my own original product key as it's written under my laptop. When I completed the new installation I was prompted to activate my windows, and I did, but the Microsoft site says that the product key of my windows is invalid.

Hello, first, heres what I am running:

Hardware: Acer Aspire One A0751h
OS: Windows XP SP3
Drivers: went to Acer's website to download all drivers (ie. Chipset, Video, Audio, LAN, WLAN, BlueTooth...)

Heres what happened, the Netbook came with Windows XP SP3 Home Edition installed, I wanted to see how Win7 would act on it, sadly it was a bit laggy in some areas for my liking compared to XP (keep in mind its only an Intel Atom 1.33GHz) mainly I think because Win7 is much more animated.

So I didn't have any original software for the XP so I had to search the internet to find an ISO, found one and installed it onto a CD and then my Netbook.

Now comes the time for activation, my original Key is about 95% visible but I'm positive on all but 1 character. I contacted Acer Support and they say that the key has to match the software. But the ISO I downloaded obviously is not going to come with the activation key I need... so, what can I do besides crack it, I really don't want to, to get XP Genuine again without having to buy another XP Disc and reinstall XP??

Appreciate the assistance...

Answer:[SOLVED] Activation Key - Fresh XP Install

First, you need to make sure your XP CD is legitimate to begin with. Saying you downloaded it off the internet sounds likely it's pirated.

On your other subject - activation. If you have the key and may not be able to read one or two characters, contact MS by phone. My experience with MS Activation team is rather good.

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to fix my brothers PC (Aries Athlon 2.2 Ghz) running XP Home.

It's been infected with some new malware which AV vendors have a generic detection but could not repair.

To save time, I decided to use the O/S restore function (replace system files, retain user data) using PCAngel, which seemingly worked ok.

However, on system reboot I receive the Windows Product Activation error message, asking me "Do you want to activate Windows now?". If I reply NO, of course I get logged off. But if I reply YES then it goes briefly to a blank version of my desktop and then logs me off.

In other words, I never get the chance to activate. I never get anywhere near to getting into windows.

To compound the issue I can't boot into safe mode, it attempts to boot, but part way through loading the drivers it restarts without any error messages..I've flashed the CMOS by taking the battery out & putting it back in again & this made no difference.

I'm able to load the O/S partition using ubunthu & see no evidence of WPA_Reset5.

I do NOT have any install CD's, the PC came pre-installed & I assume the OEM figured users will restore using PCAngel if required. It is a valid XP install with a valid prodID. If any of you know how I can bypass this state to get the system up & running it would be most appreciated.

Hey there,

I am planning a total system rebuild in a few weeks, (not changing any hardware) just a general clean/dust. In this process I will be wiping my drive(s) and doing a fresh install of windows.

Now I am unsure of how Windows 8 Activation works, I know once activated the key cant be used to activate another system (or windows live account?) seems everything is tied to your Hotmail now.

I have a: Win Pro 8 64bit Eng Intl 1pk DSP OEI DVD
on the disk carton it says:windows 8 pro eng intl for oem software

Will I be able to activate again after my fresh install? (using the same Hotmail, same hardware)

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows 8 activation question.

Why would you go a fresh reinstall? You won't see a huge jump in performance.

I would just keep the OS how it is, for all you know you'll run into even more problems.

I just bought a new laptop computer....I had Adobe Photoshop CS2 installed on my desktop computer...but have not used it much at all. So, just yesterday I did the "Transfer Activation "thing". I did as instructed...Installed it on my laptop...(this new laptop is an HP Pavilion with 2GB, Intel Centrino, Light Scribe, and Windows Vista).

When I was through installing it (it said I installed successfully)....then I was told to register it... ...I did so...using my new address (of the laptop)...It told me It registered successfully.

I then proceeded to download updates....when all was said and done, and rebooted...said the updates were installed successfully as were the registration, and updates.

So, I closed it out.....opened PSCS2 to work on a picture ,and it said..... before I could do anything....... I had to register, I did this again.

closed it out....opened it again ...same thing said I had to register it. This went on for 5 different times...So, I got to thinking...maybe I should use my other address that I had the PSCS2 on in the first evening I was almost I closed everything down.

This morning I opened both computers...I got a "congratulations" for registering...on the desktop computer...(the one with the beginning address)

I opened PSCS2 on the laptop...same thing as yesterday...I must register
I clicked on ....(don't remember the exact wording), but declined to register it and it opened for me a... Read more

I had just recently upgraded my CD-ROM drive to a DVD-RW drive. Vista doesn't apparently like this "big" hardware change, and wants me to re-activate my system within a 3 day grace period. I tried to re-activate, but it says that my product key is already in use, but I know this because I was using the same product key before I changed my CD-ROM drive . Does anyone know how to help me so I don't have to revert back to XP, or to rake out another 140 bucks? Please.

My Windows machine was getting really slow, so I decided to do what many people are doing - get a faster HD and put the old drive in the DVD drive bay.

I backed up my old drive (both full backup and bootable backup on an external disk. As my original version of Windows came pre-installed on my computer, and I didn't want to do a factory restore onto the new disk, because it came with loads of HP bloatware, I downloaded a legal iso of Windows Home Premium and burned it onto a DVD. (downloaded from PC World article 248995 how_to_install_windows_7_without_the_disc)

I then installed the drives and put the new system on the drive, and input the serial from the sticker at the bottom of my computer.

I formatted my old drive and installed it into the optical bay.

Now everything is working great, it boots up in no time at all. But the windows activation thing kept popping up saying the serial is invalid. As far as I know what I have done is perfectly legal. I disabled the software protection at startup hoping it would just go away, but now it is telling me explicitly that I have pirated software....

Anything I can do to solve this problem? Would much appreciate any help!

Hello, here's my problem:
I bought my laptop which came with Vista Home Premium SP1 and with Office 2007 60 days-trial version SP1. I installed Acrobat Pro and updated to the version 8.0. The Acrobat buttons in the Office applications never worked, so I created my PDFs printing with the "Acrobat PDF Converter" printer.

Everything worked fine until November when the Office trial period expired.
I started working with OpenOffice without problems (by the way, the Acrobat
buttons in OpenOffice did work). Three months later I get tired of OpenOffice
and I bought the Office 2007 license. I entered the 25 digits key and
activated my product without problems.

Only then I realized that I couldn?t print in any office application. I
couldn?t even print in WordPad or IE7! I also noticed that the Excel charts
disappeared after I move them to their own sheet.
I recently read that some guy had a similar problem (see link below), he
later claimed that the problem was related to the office printer drivers and
the print spooler. He was able to solve this issue but he never explained how
he accomplished this.

Could anyone tell me what could be my problem?... Read more

Relevance 65.19% computer died the other day (something in the motherboard, I presume), and a friend gave me another computer. Fantastic, yes, but I needed everything on my own hard drive. Stupidly, because I am eager and don't research things properly, I transferred my own hard drive to this new computer. Of course, Windows is now requesting reactivation. I have misplaced my cd (as usual), and I also read that I will probably have to buy another Windows license, since I technically have a new computer. I do, however, have the original hard drive and Windows cd. Since XP ties itself to the BIOS, if I put the original hard drive back in, can I proceed without problems? I am hoping that will work, and then I can just slave my hard drive in.

Hi chaps,

My mother's XP PC presented her with an AVG update request whilst she was using it (online).

She clicked 'update now' and then clicked 'restart now' when it told her she needed to restart to complete the process.

Windows is now telling her it needs to be activated/registered with Microsoft again. She can't log into her profile as it puts up windows asking her to enter her internet settings or proxy server settings. If you try and skip this step it sends her back to the log-in/shut down screen. Her internet connection was and is wireless, but there is no option for this.

I am also concerned as to why AVG might have caused this to happen in the first place, although a quick Google search hasn't shown me any virus horror stories.

Does anyone have any ideas how we can get her PC out of this infernal loop and running normally again please?

Thanks in advance,

So I bought a copy of Office 2010 and installed it, and when I got to the activation screen I got an error that it could not be activated online. Tried the phone activation, that didn't work either. It was a brand new sealed package.

Error I get is this: This product cannot be activated because the product key is not valid.

What do I do?

I have reached out to the seller but not received any assistance so far.

Several months back the drive in my Magnal 1.4ghz PC (bought via ABS PC) died. It's out of warranty, so I bought another drive and reinstalled XP from the included CD. This went well and I had 30 days to activate XP. This failed several times online. I verified the installed XP Key with 2 different key finder programs, then tried MS direct phone support. The voice was Indian and almost mechanically unresponsive and, though I followed all her instrux, she says I have an unauthorized copy. There seems to be no other way to contact MS.

Frustrated, the time began to pass. To stave off the 30 day lockout I changed the system BIOS date. This seems to work for now. There are 2 days to go instead of none. I assume I can do this again.

Why won't MS reactivate my installation? Do they think I've copied/pirated the CD? In any case, I bought the OS on CD with the PC as part of the deal. Why couldn't I put it on any machine so long as it's my ONLY machine? That's single use by my standards, just as it was under Win9x versions. I have a good, keyed copy of WinME and will use it if I have to. Happily, there's a bright spot: there are drivers for Win9x though the PC was "designed" for XP. That or go to Linux (and dump all my MS software) but I'd rather not quite yet. Any clues??

I got a new motherboard, a Gigabyte MA790GP-UDH4, and I think it might be DOA. My computer won't boot at all, and won't give me any POST beeps. Are the beeps automatically enabled, thus pointing to probably a dead mobo? Or do I need to do something to activate them first, thus increasing the possibilities of what's gone wrong?

Thanks for any help.

I have had this problem for about a year where this program called "Sonic Activation Module" tries to install something every single time I start my computer. I dont think its harmful, but its SO annoying. I have to cancel it 6 times before it will go away. Any advice?

The only thing relatively similar in the add/remove programs menu is called "Sonic Encoders." But I dont know what that does or if I can/should remove it.
