Touch screen keyboard AND hardware keyboard not working

Question: Touch screen keyboard AND hardware keyboard not working

My husbands ASUS touch screen laptop-keyboards are not working. I know it has windows 8. Core i3 intel inside. Like I said it is a touchscreen and neither the hardware keyboard or touch screen keyboard will do any thing (well it is like the computer understands i am doing something with the keyboard, but not typing. Ex. i will type and the curser line will do nothing but suddenly go like an italicized line. The mouse works and the touch screen works but I cannot type anything. I have wiggled the keys thinking maybe something is stuck but no help. also I have restored it to its factory settings thinking maybe he accidentally set some keyboard sleep command or something. We are both not smart at this, and again it is not my computer, he has it for work, so who knows what he did to it. But yeah, after restore it still wouldn't work and now I am stuck at the registration "getting started" windows and I cannot bypass them....or don't know how to without being about to type. The last it worked he said he cleaned it with pressurized air, so I don't know if that was too much for the keys...if he actually blew dirt into it, or what strange thing could have happened...but the fact that both touch screen and actual keyboard aren't working I am left stumped. I hope I gave enough information on the computer. It has that surface windows...he normally just uses the desk top mode. Ok thank you for any advice.

Preferred Solution: Touch screen keyboard AND hardware keyboard not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is the problem I have experienced for the on-screen keyboard (with or without tablet mode),
- When the on-screen keyboard comes up, the windows will not automatically resize to make way. The Keyboard will end up covering the window. (In Windows 8.1, all windows will resize.) (In Windows 10, only Store App and Microsoft Edge knows how to resize.)
Any thoughts?

I've lost the use of my keyboard, but not the touch pad. Restarting and converting to table mode and back doesn't correct the issue. Thoughts? I'm not sur where to go from here. Could the keyboard be physically dead?

Answer:Yoga 2 Keyboard not working, but touch pad and touch screen fine

You should test the keyboard in the BIOS menu and see whether it works. 1) Press on the recovery button (next to the power button, you may need a small screwdriver). https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/11617761143/in/set-721576390073780542) Then there is an option menu for entering recovery, bios, etc. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14512183979/in/set-72157639007378054Use your keyboard and see whether it works in that option menu. If it doesn't work then it is a faulty keyboard.

I upgraded to Windows 10 last week. Everything has been working fine. I needed to install some software in auto mode so I turned off UAC and rebooted. Now when the system comes back up none of the input devices work! The keyboard and mouse do not work and the touch screen is not working either. All I can do it hold down the power button to reboot. If I hold it down for 3 cycles it goes into auto repair mode. In that mode the keyboard mouse and touch screen all work fine. If I set it to reboot into safe mode when it reboots I still cannot use the keyboard mouse or touch screen. What's going on here? Can anyone help me? Chris

Answer:Horizon S2 keyboard mouse touch screen not working!

Strange. I think it could be a driver issue. Try reinstalling those drivers for your computer. If you need help, please respond! If that doesn't help, you can always restore to go back to when it was working fine.

Ok, so I got my Yoga 2 Pro 5 days ago. It was been working great until today. I turned it on and I noticed that the on screen volume indicator was active and at 100%. I pushed and held the volume down button and the indicator went down but as soon as I let it go, it goes all the way back up to 100% volume as if a ghost is making it happen. The volume indicator will not disappear. So I thought that maybe I did something wrong. I restarted the computer and nothing changed. Here is what else I've noticed: Volume indicator stays on all the time and will not disappearOn screen touch keyboard is inoperable, comes up but goes down immediately.Touchpad is unresponsive and swipe gestures don't work on the touchpad. The on screen start button (on the windows taskbar) doesn't work. Is not clickable. When I open apps, they open minimized and start blinking orange on the taskbar. In my office documents, when I right click, menu immediately disappearsI uninstalled and reinstalled the audio and touchpad drivers. Didn't work. It seems that something is either being depressed or is hungup or conflicting. I can't figure out what it is. I haven't tried much else, so I don't know if other features aren't working.  This is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

hi rsleiti,

Welcome to the Forums.

If the keyboard is working fine on the login screen and then suddenly stops functioning when you get to the desktop / metro screen then the problem might be with the Filter Keys.

Try to turn off Filter Keys by going to Control Panel > Ease of Access > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use then uncheck Turn on Filter Keys then hit apply.
  - Link to picture

As for the Touchpad, can you try the following:
1. Navigate to the Control Panel (Icon views) > Programs and Features and uninstall the Synaptics or ELAN driver then reboot.

2. Reinstall the Touchpad driver from the D:\Drivers\Touchpad folder or from the link below:

Touchpad Driver (Synaptic, Elan) for 64-bit Windows96.3 MB

Let me know how it goes,

hi ya. im hoping someone can help me with an issue im having my laptop. for some reason my touch pad and keyboard stop working. i have tried reintalling windows to correct the issue which it does for a day and then the same thing happens again. when i checked in device manager and clicked on PS/2 mouse it said there was a code 10 error. if i uninstall ps/2 and restart the laptop it fixes the issue for a while, then it occurs again. my OS is windows 7, i think it was upgraded from windows vista (i only recently purchased this laptop 2nd hand) so im not 100% sure on that. the driver date for the ps/2 compatible mouse is 6/21/2006. i have tried looking on the website for a more updated keypad driver but i could not seem to find one. it seems to have every other driver apart for keypad driver.

any help would be greatly appreciated

The internal keyboard and touch pad of my laptop have stopped working suddenly. The laptop was running but I did not use it for maybe 5 minutes. Then the touch pad and the keyboard did not do anything anymore. Rebooting did not help. I use external devices now.In the device manager the devices are only shown when hidden devices are displayed. Both devices have a yellow exclamation point and error code 24 in details (device not present or not working). Replacing the drivers with a compatible one does not help.A similar problem in is in the following thread, but for windows XP: Laptop Keyboard Not WorkingThere the problem was solved by reinstalling windows. Is there any quicker solution?

I have a toshiba convertible laptop, I was using it in both laptop mode and tablet mode. Suddenly after converting from tablet mode to laptop mode the keyboard and touch pad stopped working in windows. The keyboard is functional and working in bios I am able to change the options in bios but when it comes to windows only the function keys are working to change the system settings. The touch pad is also having the same issue.

Answer:Keyboard and touch pad not working after using as tablet mode

Sounds like a driver issue or accessibility that the touch on-screen keyboard got screwed up. Can you get to a restore point by using a USB keyboard and mouse with it? Toshiba has their own drivers for the Synaptics Touchpad, same as their Function keys. I always went with non-UEFI on the Toshiba laptop my wife has. Always had issues with Toshiba's drivers and UEFI mode.

The only other thing is maybe roll back to a System Restore point before this occurred. Also do you make a regular system backup for the unit?

Answer:X1 Carbon Touch Backlit keyboard not working

Hi, architect7

Be sure to hold the Fn key while pressing the Spacebar to turn on the backlit keyboard. If you have already tried this to no avail, then I would recommend checking some BIOS settings. To enter BIOS, reboot the machine. When it is powering back up and you see the Lenovo splash screen, tap the Enter key repeatedly. A menu should appear. When it does, press F1 to enter BIOS. Once here, navigate to Config ? Keyboard/Mouse and check the settings of Fn and Ctrl Key swap and Fn Key Lock. For purposes of this test, make sure they are both set to Disabled. Once done, press F10 to save and exit. The machine should now boot normally. Log in to Windows and try to activate the backlight again and see if that works.

Best of luck,
Adam

Answer:backlight on keyboard for z500 touch not working

hi Gadi621,

Welcome to the Forums.

I'm not seing any changelog related to any keyboard backlight changee from the BIOS readme.txt file so I think it's unlikely that updating the BIOS is the cause of the problem.

Just to check, when you power up the machine, do you see the keyboard backlight turning on?

Ideally, for the backlit to work, the following must be met:
1. A backlit-type keyboard must be installe (you can tell if the keyboard has backlights when there's a "crown" like icon on the space bar.
    - Link to picture
2. The keyboard ribbon & power cable (for backlit) must be properly connected to the motherboard
    - Link to picture
    - Link to picture

If one of the following is not met, the backlight feature won't work.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about this on a brand new ThinkPad.

This does sound like either a defective keyboard or maybe one that has been poorly installed/connected. Unfortunately the keyboard on X1C models, unlike other models, is not something you can reinstall or replace on your own. Also since this is a brand new system I would suggest you contact Lenovo support for assistance.

Hi all, I've had my Lenovo ideaPad Z500 Touch for 2 years already, and this is the first time my KEYBOARD BACKLIGHT has stopped working. I am using Windows 8.1 (always updated) on a 64-bit OS. There has been no trauma to the device prior to the disfunction, however I did recently install CCleaner to my laptop to speed up the starting time (which may or may not have anything to do with the disfunction, but I am bookmarking it as a possibility since before installation my keyboard backlight was working just fine). Around the same time I also recently updatedWindows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 x64 Edition - March 2015 (KB890830) upon recommendation from Windows Update, prior to which there was also nothing wrong with my keyboard backlight. (1) I have tried the Fn+SpaceBar option (as I usually do to toggle on/off when I'm doing work), but the backlight still does not turn on.(2) I have tried reinstalling Lenovo Energy Management (as has been recommended in previous posts), but it still does not work even after restarting. Since the last post on this was some time ago (last one on 2nd January 2014 with solutions that do not work for me), I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me on this issue. Thank you so much,

The way that Microsoft setup Kiosk mode is unusable. When a customer comes into our store and uses a browser restricted to only use the available links on the page (Kiosk mode) expecting them to know what key strokes they  need to use to go forward
and backwards in the browser is unreasonable. The other problem is that we deploy touch screens with NO keyboards. Does anyone know how to use Kiosk mode but still have the navigation keys available for the users to select. The only other way I can think of
doing this is to go to a totally different browser. To expect in this day and age, with the usage of touch screens, to still require a keyboard for navigation in kiosk mode is just silly. Now that I have vented any help would be appreciated.

This is the second time I've bought a new laptop in 2 weeks, because my old Dell's hard drive crashed.  The first replacement HP wouldn't connect to Wifi and Geek Squad couldn't help from the store, so just traded out for this new one, and that problem is solved.  I'm not sure if my Win 10 is 32 bit or 64 bit, BTW, and don't know if it matters for this issue.  I was on my laptop last night and the keyboard kept acting wonky--slow response and I'd have to hit a key a few times to get the letter/number to type at times.  Also, even though I hit the numlock key, it wouldn't stay locked.  Please tell me this is a quick driver reset.  I really don't want to go back to Best Buy again.

I powered off then on and and it loaded to tiles then I went to the desktop and tried to open my browser and all the desktop icons went crazy, blinking, jumping all over... Wouldn't stop, so I powered down again. Now it won't boot up ...powered on and keyboard lights up but screen is black. I would try to reboot with battery out but I don't know how to remove the battery on this model. Advice?

Hi, My X1 Carbon Touch adaptive keyboard keys don't work anymore. I've tried to search through the knowledge base and installed the mentioned power management drivers, also made sure to flash the bios of the computer with the latest and installed all updates. Yet the keys are either frozen at the F1 keys or doesn't come on or light up at all. I can't access volume, brightness, or any of the other settings.  Any ideas how to truly resolve this? The computer becomes pretty intolerable without this working, and I'm surprised that Lenovo's solution center and diagnostic tools can't fix this.  Thanks!

Answer:U430 touch : keyboard and touchpad not working after Windows 8.1 upgrade

hi pillet,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

To verify the Touchpad / Keyboard functionality, can you try to:
1. Hold the power button until the computer turns off
2. Press the OneKey Recovery (Novo) button and try to choose choose System Recovery using the arrow keys (this will also check if the keyboard is working)

- Link to picture
- Link to picture

3. In Recovery Environment. you can test if the Touchpad is working by clicking on some options or by just simply moving the mouse

If the keyboard/mouse still doesn't work, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue.

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, keyboard stops working randomly in various programs. For example, it might stop working in Firefox but at the same time it would work just fine in Chrome and notepad. Or it stops working in Chrome but works just fine in Edge and Firefox. Most times, closing and opening the progrm does nothing, only a reboot fixes the problem for a while. I should also mention that while the keyboard stops working in that particular program, the program itself is not frozen and it works well if I use the touchpad. Not sure if MS or Lenovo are to blame but Lenovo should be looking into it.

Hi,

I have the problem that anytime I touch the screen with my pen (which is what I use instead of a mouse, being an illustrator) the touch keyboard pops up, even though I have a (bluetooth) keyboard attached. I'd like to get rid of this behavior, HOWEVER, it's mandatory that I have either the touch keyboard or a screen keyboard when i start my tablet in order to be able to sign in to my account. at that point the system does not recognize an external keyboard. Can anyone tell me how to accomplished this: the steps to disable the annoying popup touch keyboard BUT have a keyboard available at startup?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey guys,

I have a weird issue, I have a HP Touchsmart 520-1070 and after upgrading to Windows 10 everything was fine but after the anniversary update last year, I started to have an issue where when I would press the windows key on the keyboard there would be no response unless I held the button for about a second. I have tried the filter keys, sticky keys and 2 other keyboards all with the same issues.

I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 10 and Windows 7 but that didn't help, I don't have the recovery partition anymore but I downloaded all the proper drivers and the issue still persists. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also the touch screen does not work anymore and the BIOS is updated to the latest version.

Answer:HP Touchsmart 520-1070 Keyboard & Touch Screen Issue

Hi garen45.

First if you call HP they likely can send you the recovery software, certainly they can do this for PC's although it may cost you $15-$10 dollars.

Can I ask where you downloaded the drivers from?

When you install them are you confirming the version number and manufacturer that you think is being installed is being installed by Windows?

Hello, I'm really hoping someone will be able to help. I bought my Yoga 13 a week ago on Saturday and everything has been great until today. I tried to use it in tablet mode, and when I tried to type my password in using the on screen keyboard, it disappeared before I had a chance to type in a single letter! I used my keyboard and logged in. When I tried to bring up the touchscreen keyboard using the icon on the taskbar, again the keyboard would stay on screen for a couple of seconds and disappear! The taskbar then kept flashing! I've checked for Windows updates and installed the most recent ones, this hasn't helped. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I did install Window 8.1 a few days ago... Please can someone help!  Thank you!

Hello Lenovo Forum, I installed Xubuntu on my Thinkpad Yoga 14 and one day I tried to poke around and click the mouse button during boot time. Then I had the magical on-screen virtual keyboard popping up on the GRUB menu. You can see a photo of the on screen virtual keyboard here: http://imgur.com/p6JUrQr I also give a video showing how to activate the keyboard: Basically, clicking left mouse button (either the one on the trackpoint or an external mouse can work) will bring up the virtual keyboard. You need to touch it quickly, because every time any content on the screen changes (in this video, that is the countdown which refreshes every second) the keyboard will disappear. Touching the a key on the Virtual keyboard is equivalent to pressing the corresponding physical key. In this video I clicked Down Arrow, Up Arrow and Enter and booted Xubuntu. The Keyboard shows only in the GRUB Menu, as far as I have tested. It does not pop up in BIOS even if you click the left mouse button in BIOS. Is there a more detailed description of this Keyboard available? I searched "Thinkpad Yoga 14 virtual keyboard grub" but got no useful results, so the Keyboard looks like a secret, an easter egg or some maintenance mode to me. Personally I think this keyboard will make it very convenient for those who use the Yoga in tent mode / presentation mode / tablet mode and need to reboot across Linux and Windows and have no external USB keyboard and do not want to co... Answer:Windows 8 tablet touch keyboard DISAPPEARED from login screen!

I don't know if this will help you but it solved a similar problem I had on my Windows 8 touch PC:
If you are able to reach the Start/app tile screen or desktop and from there "view local services" which you can find by typing "services" in the Start screen scroll down the list until you come to the "Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service" which
should say "Automatic (triggered)" and "Running"
From there "right-click" that service (or otherwise get into its properties), click the "Log On" Tab, click the first option under "Log on as:" (circle button "Local System account") and make sure to Check box "Allow service to interact with desktop"
For me this box somehow became unchecked when I "Refreshed" my windows 8 to solve another issue. Once I checked the box, the keyboard started to reappear at the login screen.

For the 4th time, the T540 keyboard has about 7 of its keys stop working. The seven keys are usually on the right hand side and in a group, but could be in any row, and within 1 or 2 columns of each other. Pressing the key does nothing, not even the click in click mode. I am convinced this is not a software problem as I have tried all possible software remedies. I am sure it is due to the keyboard or connection itself. The Shift or Ctrl does not work for these keys either. First time this happened after a year of use, I lost 'P' and '0' among others, and I had to replace the keyboard. A year later on the new keyboard it happened again, but came back after two days. 3rd time was four months later, and I have lost '-', '=', '5', '6', delete, and others. I remapped these. Then again now I lost another bunch including '\', backspace, enter, and others. The original keyboard is a backlit keyboard FRU 04Y2387, ID# 48L16M, Parts # 0C44952, Model # KM BL-105US . Hi

I am running an ageing ACER travelmate laptop with Win 7 Pro SP1 (up to date with updates).

Yesterday I accidentally spilled some tea on the keyboard. I quickly followed procedure: I powered down, took battery out, dried the keyboard - first with absorbent tissues and then with a hair dryer.

I logged in. No problem booting up - up to the login window. I could not login because the keboard is not responding. Keyboard (most keys, except on the extreme right) are non-responsive. I managed to login via the virtual keyboard. I have no problem with the mouse or any mouse operated functions.

Right now I am working via an external (USB) keyboard. When I go to 'Control panel' > 'keyboard' all the vital signs are normal, eg, driver, launch manager are shown as functioning normally.

What can I try next to get back the laptop keyboard functionality back?

Answer:Laptop keyboard stopped working -spillage [moved to Hardware>Laptops]

Not much as the "spillage" has pretty much ruined the keyboard. Depending on your repair ability, you could order a replacement for it and do it yourself or take it to a repair shop for replacement. But the bottom line is; it has to be replaced.

Hi there - New Yoga owner here ( just bought it yesterday) and within minutes of setting the computer up I noticed that the on screen keyboard was malfunctioning when the yoga is in tablet mode. Specifically, it pops up for about a second and then, without me touching or clicking or doing anything, it quickly slides back down. repeated attempts to bring up the keyboard end up, frustratingly, with the same result. what is perplexing to me is the on screen keyboard works fine in laptop mode (when I need it least). Someone else already started a post on this BUT it was marked as 'solved' (which it wasn't) so I figured I'd start new thread. The solution on the previous thread was to simply 'refresh' windows to get rid of any new drivers that were downloaded since purchasing the yoga, but I did not download or update anything prior to this problem arising (as I said, the problem seemed to occur within a few minutes of turning the machine on for the first time). In any case, I tried the refresh and it did not work so clearly my problem is not that I downloaded an incompatible or faulty driver. Please Help! I love this machine and I'm trying to see past the other flaws I've noticed so far (subtle screen flickering, inconsistent touch sensitivity etc), but this issue is starting to really undermine my confidence in the product quality and, from a productivity standpoint, it is a real deal breaker to not have full tablet functionality.

Between the two finger scrolling disabling, this glitchy on-screen keyboard, and some touch screen issues, I don't know if I can justify a thousand dollars on it.

I recently (w/in last 2 weeks) purchased and received an E545 and after less than 8 hours of use the keyboard is extremely loose on the right hand side, primarily where the number pad sits but also extend into the right side of the alpha keyboard.  By losse, I mean that it doesn't sit well and when you press down on a key in that area of the keyboard, the entire right side of keyboard depresses.  ti's very disconcerting when typing and also extremely loud, which is an issue since I use the machine in meetings to take notes.

I've not seen much in searching, except for threads that are several years old.  I wanted to get some user input before contacting Lenovo, as I'm sure it will be better advice and less of a hassle.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:E545 keyboard problem - many keys not working - loose keyboard cable

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the entire keyboard of your Lenovo ThinkPad E545 depresses on key presses.

From what you have posted, it sounds like a keyboard flex. Keyboard flexing occurs if the board supporting the keys is not rigid or if the design of the keyboard is faulty. For good keyboards, the effect shouldn't be noticeable.

If you feel excessive flexing in your keyboard, try to reseat the keyboard. Since your system is under warranty, I would strongly suggest you to take assistance from Lenovo technical support.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Best Regards,
Mithun.

As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

Answer:Keyboard - Shift & Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!

I currently have an X60 and have never had a single issue.  However I was recently infected with a Trojan, and after removing it with a reputable program, the keyboard and trackpoint mouse have stopped working. When I get the windows login screen, the trackpoint works fine, but the second I press any key, both keyboard and mouse become totally frozen. I can still use a USB keyboard and mouse with no issue at, but that is the only way. Any ideas as to how I can get them back up and working? Clearly, they (at least the mouse) are not totally fried b/c it works fine before I touch the keyboard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, JT

Answer:X60 keyboard and trackpoint stopped working; only usb keyboard/mouse work

SOLVED!  I simply had to update the drivers in the device manager.  For some reason they were corrupt and it could not load them.  Simple fix, just took too much thought and digging to find solution.

On my laptop Satellite L20 not working keyboard and touchpad, but keyboard work in BIOS, USB-ports also not working (USB mouse).

Can i get update file for BIOS(traditional updating from boot CD, not OS!)

Sorry for my bad English.

Answer:Satellite L20 keyboard & touchpad not working but keyboard work in BIOS

If the traditional BIOS update is not available on the download page the only way to get it is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They have all versions.

But this keyboard and mouse issue is really strange. can you use it if you start operating system in ?safe mode??

Hi, I have just upgraded to 8.1 and the only issue I have so far is the not working multi-touch gestures function. No more scrolling with two fingers, no more pinching to zoom in and out from the photos, NO MORE FUN  Also the touch keyboard has been very annoying.. It has been popping up all the time when i am using the computer in 90 degree position. Happened since before the upgrade though. Does anyone have an idea? (I don't want to disable it, I use it sometimes!) My poor Yoga, can someone please help :'( Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, Something really strange started happening two days ago. Out of the blue the following keys stopped working: GHBackspaceWindows [email protected]' The laptop is a couple of years old and a bit dusty, so I took it to the local shop to get the keyboard replaced and cleaned. Seemed to be working fine when I left the shop. Then, a little while ago the space key and P stopped. Five minutes later they started working again but ctrl stopped and N is temperamental. I haven't spilt anything on it or knocked it. Any ideas what's going on?

I had a problem with my laptop which is certain key on my keyboard is not functioning. The weird is, it happened without a reason. because after I shutdown doing my work when I turn it on again, I discovered my "s", "d", "g", "h", "\", "m", " left shift", "caps lock" and "~" key did not work at all. I try taking the key off, cleaning underneath, but nothing seems to be working. After that I try to use usb keyboard and it seems the key can be entered. So I thought my hardware is the problem. than I replace into the new one, but still having the same problem. I already waste my money buying new keyboard. Does any one happen to know what sort of problem this is and how I would go about fixing it? Is it related to the registry. My laptop is Acer aspire 4740G, ram 4GB, processor i3 2.4GHz. I hope someone can help me to solve this problem.

I've had my desktop for a few years and never had a problem.  Just recently, it has started showing a Keyboard Error message on a black screen when I boot it up.  The wireless keyboard and mouse do not work, although it appears to boot up correctly.  Since I have a password on my computer, I cannot log in or do anything.  When this happens, I've rebooted 2-3 times, and it the keyboard and mouse will finally start working.  I have moved the toggle to different USB ports and this does not appear to make a difference.  How do I prevent this from happening?
