Solved: What happens when paid avast anti virus expires?

Question: Solved: What happens when paid avast anti virus expires?

Forum queries show how to just re register with the free version, but what happens if I let the paid version expire. Does it revert to free or does it stop.

I have no complaints with avast except the latest updates made it impossible (probably only hard for the tech savvy folks) to control which programs may and may not access the WWW. I really liked that ability. Also, these warnings that it is expiring are very annoying. They've irritated me.

What happens if I just let it expire? Will I have protection while I decide if I want to keep it or will I be out of luck.
I do want the ability to prevent some programs from accessing the internet.

Preferred Solution: Solved: What happens when paid avast anti virus expires?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Solved: What happens when paid avast anti virus expires?

I'd remove it completely with the Avast Uninstall Utility. Then install the free version of Avast.

Don't forget to enable your Windows Firewall.

i am planning to purchase an avast anti virus so please suggest me which is the best avast version? avast premier or avast anti virus or avast 7 etc......

Answer:which is the best avast anti virus paid version?

Hi quickslvr,

I have no experience with the paid version; however, I do have a great deal of experience with their free versions, and I can tell you that the free version provides adequate protection for most individuals. I have been using the free version since Avast 4 (or maybe even earlier) and I have never been infected. The beauty of Avast is you get the warnings "before" a website can infect your PC (it blocks the download and warns you to leave the website). Right now, I'm running on the newly released Avast 8.0.1482 and it is running without issue on both of my rigs. Now, if you are interested in their paid versions, I would strongly suggest you visit their forums and browse for problems because I really don't think they have worked all of the kinks out of them yet.

This program has updated and now one program I use will not work, happened this morning, got it working by windows restore back to yesterday. Get message cannot connect to server. As Avast wants to update which it has the program will not work again. This is not a commercial program from big company but a specialist one. Any ideas or suggestions on another anti virus program please. Has any one else had trouble with Avast causing programs not to open.
Thanks

Hi guys,

Someone recommended Avast to me and I have been using it for only a few weeks.

Now there is Avast alert everytime I boot up my computer saying my trial period for my Avast Home Edition is expired soon.

What should I do with it? Are there any other FREE version of anti-v that doesn't require any renewal procedures?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Avast Anti-V program expires soon..

Hello,

Avast Home Edition is free, but you need to register it with an email address. Avast will then send you a free license key to your email address which you use to register the software. License keys expire after one year, at which time you'll have to re-register.

Hello Everyone,

I have heard that Avast AV is a great free AV client so I just downloaded it and installed it. The free version is good for 1 year and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for another AV client that does not have a registration time out period and one that is completely free. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advanced.

Quick question: while comparing best anti-virus etc programs,I ran across the following on CNET.It is a one time lifetime deal for $9.99 to get Superantispyware full-function program.

CNET copy"This offer is for a lifetime code, so no renewal is ever required, with all updates and upgrades included in this promotion. This offer is valid now until 11:59 a.m. PT, July 18, 2011."

I actually liked that program, but it lacked a tad in real time protection, yet very admirably found spyware fast.I currently run KIS 2011 and manually (when needed:HJT and REVO UNINSTALLER).I finally pared down my neurotic behavior of downloading all the anti-this,anti-that programs.
here is the link:
http://download.cnet.com/8301-32471...rge-your-pc-protection-with-superantispyware/

quick comments before the offer expires?? this is a cheapie, assuming it is legit!! BUT-can I run with KIS?? or not advisable?THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Answer:running concurrent anti-virus prgrams?reason:1x Promo deal from CNET!expires 7/18

SUPERAntiSpyware is not an antivirus program. It is an antispyware program as the name indicates.
If you have Kaspersky Internet Security, it does already have antivirus, antispyware, and a firewall included so you really should not require the full time protection of SUPERAntiSpyware. You may find that the performance hit to your PC could be significant and there could be conflicts have two antispyware protections actively running ( even though they imply that it does not do this ). It's up to you in the end but I recommend just keeping SAS as an additional on demand scanned without the protection.

Perhaps even now, the site checks my system before I download to be sure I am currently paid up. Just curious about this. I dread trying to remove NIS. And TIA.

I am going to change from Norton to another anti -virus software.
Have gotten responses from forum members recommending AVG, avast.
Looked at avast and they offer a paid software package in addition to their free one.
The paid one has options similar to the norton internet security I already have.

Does anyone have an opinion on this? I am willing to pay for the software, I just don't want to get infected like I did with the Norton version. I'm thinking the paid version will help keep me out of trouble.

Any thoughts?

There is absolutely no reason to pay for any AV program with the likes of Avast and AVG being available for free.Yes, you do need a separate firewall with both Avast and AVG.

I need to get a good anti-virus program for my new Windows 8 machine. I am currently using AVG free but I am willing to purchase something else if it's better.

Can anyone recommend a good anti-virus program for Windows 8?

Thanks!

Answer:Best (Paid) Anti-Virus Program?

What's wrong with the built-in Windows Defender (which is basically MSE)?

Paid anti-virus software tends to cause more problems than they help, as well as taking up gobs of resources. It's not really necessary to go overblown on security suite apps anyways.

And perhaps other security software.

I've been doing some research, and so far it seems TrustPort is the best anti-virus out there. I've tried the trial edition, and its really lightweight (even more then Eset) and according to AV comparatives it has the highest detection rate with a low number of false positives. Only problem is that the website doesn't specify how long the license is, but my pessimist side tells me that it's only for one year which makes this product somewhat pricey.

I'd also like to try a paid spyware removal but so far i haven't found anything i like. Spysweeper seems to be the most popular choice but it was too much of a system hog for me. Superantispyware seemed to work a lot better (despite the ridiculous name), but it tends to slow my computer a lot during boot up or shutdown.

As far as firewall is concerned, right now i'm using Kerio 2.1.5 for outbound, my router for inbound, and geswall for HIPS. This setup works perfectly (and its free too boot!), but you never know, perhaps there is a paid solution out there that works even better.

Any thoughts on all this?

Once a trial version has expired it cannot be used again. Reinstalling it will not work.

I did a google search and it seems there are now or soon will be at least 2 security suites for Windows 7:

1. Norton Internet Security Suite 2010

2. Kaspersky Security Suite 2010

According to the reviews, it seems that both do an OK job, but still in Beta until closer to Windows 7 shipping. Just wondering what others think may be best. I am looking for REAL good, not cheap or free.

There was a good write up on the Norton Security Suite 2009 in Maximum PC recently and they said they have made good progress and it now has a much smaller memory footprint and is a lot better than before. They think 2010 will be as good or better. Does anyone know if it has a "game" mode or such where it still protects but takes the least amount of memory? I think Kaspersky has this in the 2010 suite.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Answer:Best Anti Virus Suite for Windows 7 that is paid for?

Why do you need a suite?

If I had to pick, I would probably get Windows Live Onecare as it outperformed both Kaspersky and Norton in the last AV-Comparatives tests.

Hello,
I just don't know where to go with this question. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

This morning I tried to renew my Norton anti-virus 2006 online, to upgrade to 2008. I entered credit card info but when I clicked "submit" there was an error message that indicated the transaction didn't go through.

I had to leave for work so I let it go. But this evening my bank confirms the $39.99 charge did go through. Yet the Norton window on my desktop is all red and scary and says "at risk, you need to renew, etc." Yet it also says my computer is secure and it runs scans when I click on that. (???)

I am completely confused. I don't know whether I have renewed or not. I never got a confirmation email or a product number. I tried doing the live chat support but the chat windows wouldn't load. Then I registered and created an account to post a question in the Norton forums, but it won't let me post a question. The question button is not activated or something.

I really just want my money back so I can get a different product. Does anyone know how to get hold of an actual live human being at Norton?

If I downloaded the product from the internet already -- then that means they won't give me a refund, right?

Answer:Norton Anti-Virus Nightmare -- paid and can't get product

It doesn't matter. Contact Norton and explain your problem. Make sure you get the transaction number from your credit card. If they refuse to honor the purchase, dispute the charge.

I upgraded from the free version of AVG in 2013 and again in 2014 as the free version no longer included a firewall. I am 3 months away from renewal for 2015,. I received a message from AVG about yet another upgrade, a better version for 2015, renew now. I thought I should ask the techies on Tom's guide first. Does anyone know if this will really be better? Also I am used to the graphics. The advert says it is "clearer" but I might not get on with that.I need all the help I can get as I still have Win XP, on an old HP Pavilion. I cannot upgrade to Win 8 on this old PC, for example. Therefore I think the anti-virus is important.I'd be grateful for any comments, please. I cannot afford new equipment (am retired). I do not use the PC for banking, music, games. Thanks. message edited by beetroot

Answer:Is it worth to upgrade AVG anti-virus package, paid version?

I have used the paid version of AVG for many years now, and i love it. They improved the GUI from the older versions from late 2013 and have made more and more improvements to it to date. From the many years i have used AVG what i can tell you is that my machine has become less and less infected over the years, it is not solely down to having AVG but it has helped considerably. To answer your question about will it actually be better, well i dont think it will be any worse than what you have right now, however being a beta version there may be bugs that will hinder your user experience, i personaly dont like beta version because they are still in the 'development' phase and will have many bugs. If i were you id wait until your current subsciption expires and then renew online, it only take a few minutes so you dont have to rush and renew now.

There's a really decent assortment of free anti-virus software available on the Internet these days. Why are they free? It's a form of advertising, a way to "get in the door". Do something well, get positive reviews for it, then entice people to pay for additional features. Some free anti-virus is more obnoxious than others. Some will give you pop-up reports of the last scan results, tacking on offers to upgrade to a paid version. Others will just pop up offers at random, not in connection to any scanning activities.

OK, so if you're on a budget you've got free anti-virus installed. But if you don't need the added features offered in the paid versions, are you just as well protected for the installed functionality? The effectiveness of these programs relies on the breadth and frequency of comprehensive virus definitions, plus periodic updates to the engines for how they perform their scans. The software must know what to look for. If the free and paid versions get the same subscription updates, then they should be equally effective, right? Or... has anyone learned something to the contrary? If you can afford it, is it really best to buy your anti-virus software?

Answer:Does functionality of free anti-virus work just as well as paid versions?

The primary difference between the paid and the free is features. All have basic Anti Virus and automatic updates. The paid versions have other features such as firewalls, email protection, spam protection etc. If you scan with the free Malwarebytes and use a quality free anti virus, you have all the protection that you need. Bottom line, I do not think that any intelligent computer owner really needs the paid version if he or she uses common sense.
In some ways the paid versions are better, since they are not overloaded with features they may be faster

Hi,

I have had Avast Free anti-virus for a long time. At some point, after an automatic upgrade, all my messages in Outlook 2003 got an added anti-spam toolbar from Avast. I don't want it.

I did not find any way to make it go away from inside Outlook. It does not appear as an add-on in the relevant places. At some point, there was a register-based solution that was floating around on the Web. It worked with a previous version of Avast, but not with the current one.

I uninstalled Avast (with the proprietary uninstall tool, in safe mode) and reinstalled it twice. At some point, the anti-spam appeared as a separate module, so naturally I refused installation / deactivated it / uninstalled it (don't remember which). Yet it's impossible to make the toolbar go away.

If I de-activate or uninstall the mail shield module, the anti-spam toolbar goes away, but I don't want that. I want Avast to scan my mail, of course.

Now that I have nixed it somehow, the anti-spam component does not show anymore in the Settings / Components panel, not even in order to be re-activated. I don't know if this is a bug or a feature. It happens with other Avast components that I have refused, or uninstalled, and which do not appear anymore in the options panel as an option available for re-activation.

The anti-spam, illogically, is not part of the mail shield component, and no relevant settings appear in the mail shield settings.

A request in the Avast forum did not bring any helpful answers.

Thanks... Read more

Question: Avast Anti-Virus

O.K. guys, here's one for you. I've had Avast anti-virus free running on my computer for over a year now with no problems. I tried to download a new program, which failed to install. An Avast error message popped up. this is what it said. the heading was "Avast setup fatal error"                      "c:\part-setup_ais-ffffffff.vpx" (that's 8 f's)                       setup can not continue O.K....however the real problem is this dialog box pops up on its own every 30 minutes or so, even though i'm not trying to download anything. I can open the 'cnn' website to read a news article and this error message pops up. After a few dozen of these messages popping up all over the place I sent Avast Tech support a help request. It's been 2 wks. no reply. I resent the request again. After another  week still no reply. I deleted avast and installed another av program.Guess what? the error message stills pops up. Obviously Avast has attached itself to another dll, to create a shared file, but how do I find it and kill it. By the way a uninstall / reinstall of the program didn't fix the problem.  what's up?

Answer:Avast Anti-Virus

Likely a file corrupted during download. The Avast! Uninstall Utility will probably sort out the issue:

I use avast anti-virus and i trust it with my baby's (computer's..) life!

I never see anyone on here talk about AVAST! anti-virus. Is it just not well known, or is there something bad about it, something im missing?

Question: Avast Anti-Virus

OK so i just reinstalled my OS because I was having alot of virus problems that seemed unsolvable.

Anyway, now that i'm fresh, i downloaded Avast to protect my computer.

But after downloading, it seems different then most others and i'm not familiar whatsoever.

It has Internet shield, p2p shield, standard shield, network shield, instant messaging, web shield etc you get the point especially since you probably use it.

Anyway, when you click on any of them it pretty much shows the same thing with sensitivity at the top then results of scanning?

Are all these different features doing seperate scans?

Most of them just say 0 besides Web Shield, Standard Shield, and Network shield.

Are these constantly scanning?

Network Shield looks like its scanning my Blizzard downloader constantly since im downloading a patch? so that must scan everything im currently downloading?
Web shield is scanning this website, i guess since im using it..

lol i think im starting to understand it all as im writing this.

ha well, should i be using Avast? seems like a good program. Alot of people reccomend it.

And also what firewall should i get? I'd really appreciate some good input.

Answer:Avast Anti-Virus

I've been using Avast Home Free for almost 2 years now and no problems with it or viruses. There are 7 shields on the free version. 6 are always running, unless you disable them 1 by 1. The 7th scanner is for e-mail and only scans when downloading your mail. My best advice to you will be download the the manual from the avast website for the version you have free or pro. It is full or great info for running the program. I have my free set to scan everytime the screensaver activates, which the manual tell you how to do.
You did not say which OS you're using? With XP I've have used Filseclab, PC Tools, On-Line Armor, and currently Outpost. These are all free firewalls. All seemed to do a good job. OLA was the hardest to work with wanted to block almost everything I did even when I said allow. Filseclab is an older one it was OK, very few alerts or messages but no real updates, talk of a new one with no when. PC Tools it give me no real feedback when I had it. I've had Outpost 3 months now and have liked it the best. Alerts when programs are updating either from auto or manual or when you are adding or removing programs.
Anytime I put a new firewall on I force feed it my programs, open them 1 by 1 update do some odds and ends with them all the time clicking allow so it learns what I do and I have an idea what to expect.

Hope this helped you a little.

Dan

You should definitely remove one of them - more than one anti-virus can seriously slow down a PC. Keep the one you prefer.

I used CCleaner to clean up any files left over and I have checked in programme files but I cant find any reference to avast anywhere. Can someone please advise what else I can do. Question: Avast Anti-Virus

Gooday, When I installed Avast Anti-Virus 4 software I could no longer use Disc Scan or Defrag. They both tried to work;i.e., they kept starting up over and over but never proceeding. I uninstalled Avast and the problem disappeared. Does anyone have any ideas ? Thanks, Regards, Bert.

Answer:Avast Anti-Virus

In order for Scandisk/defrag to work, there must be no running programs..a virus scanner's resident scanner is at work constantly.
All you have to do is control/alt/del and close("end task") all open/running programs in the list (that appears) EXCEPT for Explorer and Systray.
(You should find your virus scanner in the list, if it is installed and running-close this as well, of course).

Alternatively, scandisk/defrag can be run in Safemode.

Question: avast anti-virus

i have used the free version for a good while now with whatever OS i have installed and never really had any problems but after an update earlier it went a bit nuts my memory usage stayed the same but it was using my cpu at 100% couldnt do anything it happened just after i started downloading the xp mode torrent from solar i think maybe it was updating as i started downloading (im not blaming solar for anything) so just in case i stopped the torrent deleted it went into appdata and removed all .torrent files as well exited utorrent and ran ccleaner plus the reg cleaner i have rebooted as well and i thought great everything started up and cpu usage was back to normal then after a minute or so cpu would go back to 100% its avast thats causing it because if i right click on the icon and stop protection cpu drops back down to normal which i had to do to open avast and try updating it did download a small update and install it and everything seems ok so i think it was a dodgy update from avast.
now the only problem i do have is i cant run a boot scan its shaded out(see pic) i did run a scan and it found nothing but am still unable to run a boot scan i am using the 7100 x64 if that makes any difference because i just checked a laptop i installed with x86 and the boot scan is not shaded out.
could someone who is running the 7100 x64 and avast home(the free one) just have a quick look and check if its shaded out please.
thanks

Question: Avast Anti virus

After reading in the forum for windows vista it seems that avast antivirus is the way everyone feels to go for a good anti-virus....so i installed it on my new laptop...now that i've done that is it ok to unistall Norton......

Answer:Avast Anti virus

Yes. You should only have one anti-virus program installed on a pc at a time or it could cause serious issues.

For what it's worth, I prefer ESET Smart Security for Vista. It includes without doubt the best Anti-Virus module available and a very effecient firewall and anti-spyware modules too....but it is only currently in beta testing, though I haven't had any issues with it so far.

However, it's important to settle with software you are comfortable with.

Very often (like when my computer restarts), it pops up and encourages me to upgrade to paid version. I just want to uninstall this now nuisance program but the normal way (via the Control Panel) doesn't work. Can anyone recommend a program that can this? Any advice given is greatly appreciated.

Question: Avast Anti Virus

Hello,

I have Avast 4.8 free anti virus installed on my computer. I installed it exactly a year ago, and am unsure about the virus key that was originally sent to me. I believe once the key is entered it's good for 1 year, which I properly did when I installed the software. Does anyone know if I need to re-install this key? i work at a an internet shop and the two pc used for this. upon having the pc's activated i installed bitdefender anti virus as soon as i could since once a windows pc in my case 2 windows 8 pc's is infected you to wipe the computer and reinstall everything. i worked at an internet at a different internet shop for some time that many more pc's. the were frequently slow due to viruses but due to the fact that the owner had xp on disk you could reinstall it.

but now with windows 8 that is not an option. you have to take it to a dealer to have it be reinstalled. at what cost ??

that is why i was adamant at installing the anti virus at all costs because as eli the computer guy says once a pc is infected you have a problem and the only real way of curing this is to wipe the pc.

so i installed bitdefender as i knew from past experience.

now my problem is:

what happens if the pc crashes and you have say windows 7 installed. if the original bitdefender was installed on the windows 8 pc's will they not require to be linked to a bitdefender account ?

now if i install that bitdefender on the same pc but with windows 7 will the bitdefender still install under the same account it was originally associated with or must you buy a new copy of bitdefender ?

will the same not apply to avast ? can re install an avast account on a pc which has been redone with a new operating system ?

the pc has a new name(was a local account on the windows 8) that is not the same as the one on the now... Read more

Answer:help with anti virus bitdefender and avast

If you have an authorized license for BitDefender, not sure but it seems you should be able to install/reinstall on either Win7 or Win8 using your CD or download from the BitDefender website. You may also contact BitDefender Customer Service.

The same should apply to Avast.

Is anyone using the Free Avast AV? If so, could you answer a few questions I have?

I notice two places to download the Free Avast from.

#1- I went to http://www.avast.com and that takes me to a CNET download page. The file is named "avast_free_antivirus_setup" and is about 90MB. Is that the one I should download even though it is from CNET and not directly from Avast? It doesn say ".exe" at the end!

HOWEVER there is another download at http://www.avast.com/en-us/support (under 'download this software") that has a "Avast_free_antivirus_online.setup.exe" that is only 4.6 MB. (under 'Download software)
WHICH ONE IS CORRECT as they both differ in size?

#2- I understand that when I am installing I will be requested to 'register.' Is that correct? And if I do not register, I will be only allowed to use the Avast for 30 days.
If I do register will I be able to use the Avast forever?

#3- Can I install on more than one of my computers? If so, will I be asked to register for each one? And if so would I input the same information in each one that I put in when I registered the first one?
Thanks for any help.

Does Avast Home Edition expire... My program shut down last night and said it was expired and prompted me to purchase the Pro version. It was strange because the screen would not go to the link when I would click it nor could I bring anything else up because the Avast notice seemed to be on top of everything. I even had to pull the Task Manager to the side as the Avast notification was even on top of that. And when I shut down the Avast notice my computer said your computer is now at risk and the tray icons were gone. When I open the security center it still says that my Anti Virus is on. And when I run the scanner online it is also current and updated.

So my question is do I have to uninstall my Avast and re-install? And if so, is Avast my best option or is there other free programs that are better?

In some instances uninstalling may fail or not work properly when attempting to use Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs). Most anti-virus vendors provide clean-up utilities (removal tools) on their web sites to remove remnants left behind after uninstalling, or for a failed uninstall or failed reinstall. I am wanting to know (in plain english; step by step) how I go about doing a virus scan?
My hubby has done it for me a couple of times. He clicks on the the icon for avast & then does something else; but I don't know what. And then I reset my computer & when it restarts it does a virus scan in DOS mode (I am using Win XP) & it will go though everything that is on my computer.

I want to lean to do this myself as I think it is a very important part of keeping my computer virus & adware free.

My avast is 4.7 Home education. I have got the trail one but, am looking at buying it as it is so good.
Even though it is free I have seen my hubby do the scan & want to have a go myself.

Answer:avast anti virus software

I hope I can cover it for you,

To run a virus scan from Avast open Avast via the icon, a splash screen will show mentioning the programs version and it will do a quick scan of your memory/ram once that has finished you will be presented with a graphical program like below

Where the red arrow is click that icon it will turn of/off the scanning of the Hard Drives, you want it to say ON.

Next click the icon which resembles the play button on a Video/DVD/CD player as highlighted in the below picture, which will start the scanning of your Hard Drive and files ( will take some time to do )

as for the boot-time scan it would seem one has been scheduled, to remove that option click the highlighted icon below which will bring up a long menu, choose "schedule boot time scan" and when prompted choose cancel.

Hope that helps some.

Hi
I was hoping you could help me with this, otherwise I will try at the avast! site.
I download this program. I used to have AVG free version and Norton AVG. Norton was useful for e-mail comings and goings, while AVG usually caught and successfully cleaned viruses found on-line. I had to dump Norton...subscription due and I was told that running both might cause conflicts. AVG free version did not cover e-mail, so I was encouraged to try avast! Then I dumped AVG, too.
I have Windows XP firewall enabled.

This morning I did a scan and the items in the chest (see attachment) are the only ones which could not be repaired. The message(s) stated: cannot repair > cannot access file(s).
One found virus was repaired: Win32Kuang2 found in C:WINDOWS\system32\ActiveScan\imscan.dll
I then did on line scans using the Rav Antivirus and (Trent Micro) HouseCalls sites. (The Panda site was unavailable) Both scan results showed 0 viruses found.
I also downloaded the avast anti virus cleaner tool (sswclnr). I downloaded it to a permanent folder in my unused desktop items as I was not clear on where I should place it. I ran the tool, anyway, and the results showed 0 viruses found.
I have the newest versions of hijackthis, cwshredder, spybot-search and destroy and spybot. I ran spybot > nothing aside from the pesky dsoexploit was found. I also ran AdAware > also clean.
Can you please tell me what to do next? I am not sure if deleting the infected files in my folder will be bad for my c... Read more

Answer:new user of avast! anti virus help needed

OK It's been over 24 hours and this question went almost to the bottom of page 6...time to "bump" and update anyone who knows this program.
The post has been read quite a few times, but no one has responded, one way or the other.

I did another scan:

Win32Kuang2 found in C:\\WINDOWS\system32\ActiveScan\imscan.dll > file was (again) repaired successfully

By the way, is this ^^^ anything to do with Panda and why I cannot do on line scans from their site?

Win32:Rovop[Trj] found in C:\\WINDOWS\system32\...10b66s.dll\[UPX] > error occurred while moving to chest.

When I look at the virus chest, the items previously listed in attachment are there.
What to do?
Should I un-install this program and go back to AVG?
I will just have to be very careful with incoming e-mail as AVG has no protection for that.

Thanks in advance for any help

Carolyn

Everything seems to work fine, but today had error message stating that it could not update.Tried to locate a manual check procedure but got confused. Can anyone walk more through a procedure (if there is one), so as to keep Avast in perfect safeguard mode.

I installed Avast free AV should I have my Windows XP firewall and AV running as well?

Answer:avast and XP anti virus running at same time?

You should only have 1 (one) AV and 1 (one) firewall running at the same time.

I don't know Avast (free), but according to http://majorgeeks.com/Avast_Home_Edition_d1968.html it does not contain a firewall.

So leave your Windows firewall running, but remove any other AV software.

I have searched and I know that Avast and Eset are both reccomended, typically a bit more than other options here, for free and paid AV programs...but I haven't seen them compared much with Symantec AV Corp.

So here's my situation. I can get a free copy of Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate edition from my work. I haven't seen too much talk about Symantec AV Corp. I hate Norton and wouldn't ever use norton. But the Corp anti-virus seems to work ok on my work pc without too much system performance degradation.

So my question is...how good is Symantec Corp compared to other versions such as Eset and Avast? Should I use the Symantec Corp...or switch to Avast or Eset??

I am using Vista64 if that matters??

Answer:Anti-virus help? Symantec corp, Avast, or other??

SAV Corp is every bit as good as the others mentioned. The only downside to it is, for one person, you'd never want to pay for it, but it wasn't intended for retail usage. It protects very well, doesn't give any slowdown in terms of performance or resources, and keeps itself updated without nagging the user. I roll it out to all my my employees, and it doesn't give me on bit of an issue. In two and a half years, not one of my employees have gotten a virus.

This morning decided to do a computer spring clean. Doing a scan using Ad-Aware SE, Avast kicked in stating that there was a virus present. Followed the Avast instructions and dealt with the warning!.Avast is running all the time, and is updated automatically, so I assume that everything is running to plan. Question: How did Avast miss this virus (if there was one), as no previous warning had been given. The computer was connected to the internet at that time, so the virus had not just crept into the system. Should I have doubts about the effective detection rate of Avast!.

Answer:Avast anti-virus detection failure!!

Correction: The computer 'was not' connected to the internet at the time.

Hi,

I think Avast did an automatic update today and since then I've had trouble with emails.

I've found I can get the email to work by going to Settings>Troubleshooting>Redirect settings and taking out the port numbers for POP and SMTP under the Mail section - just leaving it blank, but is this OK? Am I leaving myself unprotected?

I think it is something to do with the anti-virus not being able to read SSL encryption, but in my email client (Thunderbird) I've got never use SSL selected...

Thank you

I have just removed McAfee from my laptop and installed Avast free version of anti-virus software. Can anybody suggest how to set it up to get the best performance from my laptop and remain well protected?

Answer:How to make the best use of Avast free anti-virus

I have the voice turned off and email checking (because it was adding footers and I can scan attachments manually) and the site/safe surfing because I prefer mywot.com.

Hi,

What a great Forum.

I use AVAST Free, on my PC, and it seems to work just fine.

My son also installed it at my suggestion, but says he had to remove it as it "caused crashes, slowing down,...etc." I have no idea why. We both run W7.

He now uses, only, Windows Defender, but says, for whatever reason, that he doesn't have much confidence in it.

Might anyone, please, suggest another, hopefully free "good" anti virus program that he can try ?

Much thanks,
Bob

Answer:Anti Virus Program For Son ? (AVAST Causes Crashes ?)

Microsoft Security Essentials is good if your looking for a free solution.

For a paid solution with many more features, Norton is excellent.

In regards to whats the best choice, it really depends on the user and how often they may tend to find themselves in questionable situations .. if that makes sense.

Someone who is cautious, does regualr maint. on thier PC, and watching for potential threats will be perfectly fine with a free solution.

Others who do not know, do not care, or click every link they see even in thier mailbox, just to see what it is will be far better off with a paid solution that offers much wider range of protection.

I'm wondering which one to get.

Answer:Avira, Avast, AVG, or Kapersky Anti Virus'? Which One is the Best?

Kaspersky is the best of these.... BUT not free. The others are free or have a free version (Kaspersky has a trial period of 30 days I recall).
If you want a free one I would recommend Avira.

I have been using Rapport for over a year now.My OS is Windows 7 Pro. I also have the free version of Avast installed. Yesterday on booting up the Avast program was unable to open! On trying a number of solutions, without success, I noticed that a Rapport download (unknown to me) had occurred the day before.
After deleting the Rapport program I find that Avast is working as normal! Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is Rapport in conflict with Avast software?
Thank you

Answer:Rapport stops Avast Anti Virus!

I'm using Avast and Rapport. Both working OK. Try going to the Rapport site and downloading the latest version.
