Dell Inspiron 1721 went black, won't turn on

Question: Dell Inspiron 1721 went black, won't turn on

Hey guys/gals. Thanks for looking and any help would be great. Here's what's going on. I was playing an online MMORPG the other game and I hit Alt+Tab to switch to my Windows screen and when I did the monitor went black. At first I thought it was some kind of windows glitch so I manually forced the power down via hold the power button. I tried to turn the computer back on and it showed the first main loading screen, not the WIndows screen just the computer loading screen. But when it went past that, nothing. The screen was just black. So I forced the power down again. When I turned it back on, nothing loads. I get the blue light on the side that shows the power is on and the blue light showing the bluetooth adapter card is on. The light that comes on when it's reading from the hard drive comes on for a couple of seconds then goes off like it normally did until after the loading screen. The fan comes on and runs but the loading screen doesnt come up, the hard drives are being read. And as far as I can tell, then monitor isn't just black, it's not even coming on. I've taken it apart and cleaned it as best as I could and still nothing. I removed both hard drives, nothing. I removed the RAM chip, nothing. Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Dell Inspiron 1721 went black, won't turn on

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dell Inspiron 1721 went black, won't turn on

Try:
Disconnecting any externals (including network)
Removing the laptop main large battery
Removing the power adapter cord
Re-seating the Ram (or even just leaving 1 Ram card in only, for the moment)
Re-seating the Hard Drive
Then with all power out still. Hold down the ON button for 20secs
Plug the powered, power cord back in
Turn On
Did it work? If so, then turn back off (or shutdown if Windows loaded)
And refit the extra Ram card (if removed) and refit the main battery
Turn back on again, and you're good to go.

My Inspiron 1721 laptop has stopped working. I turn it on  - the fans start for a few seconds and it goes silent then screen stays black.
I left it on over night and turned it off and back on this morning and it came up until I logged into windows then went black again. Its like its in hibernation as the fans arent on and its silent although when I stripped it down the hard drive was still going when I listened.
Can someone tell me whats wrong?
I have tried the take the battery out / hold power for 60 seconds put the wire back in with battery out etc, tried external monitor thing, tried different ram etc but nothing at all.
Any suggestions?

I had to replace the mother board on mine. It sounds like yours is doing the same thing mine did, I would suggest replacing it yourself if possible or if you are unable to find someone who can it is very easy to replace. Also you will need a new dvd player it sounds like yours is no good. But who ever fixes your pc should be able to confirm whether it is good or bad.
I hope this helps
You can find the mother board online for about $150 and 20 for a DVD Rom Drive

Question: Dell Inspiron 1721

Hello Again,

Most of you know and remember me from the Dell Inspiron 1721 problem installing Windows 7. I was successfully able to install 64 bit Windows 7 after working around some things, but now I have a new question.

I have a AMD Truion 64x2 processor and currently running 3 gigs of ram, (2.75) usable. My question is...

How much ram can my 64bit laptop recognize and use?

Would like to know before I buy more ram.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1721

Since you are running a 32bit OS, your OS can recognize all the 3 GB RAM. If you add one more gig, it may not recognize as 4 GB. Instead, it will recognize
Total RAM-Video RAM.
For ex: If you install 4 GB RAM and you have a 512MB Graphics card, it will recognize 3.5GB RAM.

something happened to the first post. anyways, here it is again...
I need to get a new laptop. I can't spend a whole heck of a lot and am interested in the Dell Inspiron 1720. I don't do any gaming to speak of. I would like a webcam and to be able to watch dvd's and listen to music and other such media activities. Other than that it would be used primarily for internet and college coursework. Is there any reason NOT to get this laptop? I have heard that Vista is a problem for many people. Is it serious? I've heard that it might be possible to install Windows XP on there instead of Vista (I will read the other thread about that in this forum in a minute). Is there anything that makes this a bad machine and what would you recommend instead? Color and design aren't crucial but it makes for a good tie-breaker.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1720 (or 1721)

Out of the two i'd go for the 1721, purely because of the specifications...just be very cautious about DELL's customer service which seems a lot to be desired.

Oh and i have never used Vista so cannot comment on that part.

My Dell Inspiron 24 all in one will not turn on. I just get a black screen. Power light is white. If I hit the volume buttons  it then cycles through red blue green.  It was working fine yesterday.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 24 all-in-one gets Black Screen when trying to turn on

Is this an Inspiron 24-5459 AIO?
I don't see any "volume" buttons on the setup diagram for the 5459.  Have you tried pressing the Screen-off button which is right above the Power button?   The 2 buttons above the Screen-off button are the brightness controls.
You can try powering off and unplugging the power cord from the rear of PC and from the wall. Then press/hold power button for ~30 sec. Reconnect the power cord to rear of PC and then to the wall and see what happens when you boot now...
And if this system is under warranty, you may need to contact Dell Tech Support.

Hello !

About two weeks ago, my girlfriend's laptop (Dell Inspiron 1721) running 7 x64 had the mouse poorly responding. Right after the boot, swiping on the touchpad barely moved it on the screen...just inch by inch...
The system loads fine, if I press the Windows key for example it reacts immediately. The same goes if I connect an usb mouse; there, I can move it fine. After a while (from 5 minutes to an hour !) the touchpad will get responsive again.
The problem occurs again when I wake up the system from sleep, although it sometimes doesn't.

So after searching for a program interfering with the mouse, I decided to format the all thing. It seemed to work fine as I was reinstalling everything. Then I decided to apply Windows 7 updates. And bam, at the next reboot, the problem again.
To me, it must be related to a Windows 7 update that messes everything. I really doubt it's a program as I barely reinstalled them, only classic stuffs that are not responsible as they were installed when things were fine (you know, Firefox, Comodo, Ashampoo, etc.). I'm trying to uninstall updates one by one but while uninstalling them does fix the issue, it's there again when I reboot.

What should I do ? I know, I could format again but, if it's probably what I'm going to do, I would like to know if it happened to someone before and if we can identify the issue...

Thanks !

I was updating a game on steam and went to do something. Then, when I came back, I noticed the screen is all black with buttons not working. I proceeded to force shutting the laptop by holding the power button then when I tried to turn it on, the power button lights up and also the battery indicator below (both white lights, no blinking) and no light on screen and then the indicators suddenly turn off. It's been like this since last night

vaangrita,
What do the Diagnostic LED's show when booting the computer? Can you boot the computer in safe mode by starting the computer and begin tapping the F8 key. Choose safe mode from the list?
Diagnostic LEDInstead of beep codes errors are indicated via the bicolor Battery Charge LED. A specific blink pattern is followed by flashing a pattern of flashes in amber, followed by white. The pattern then repeats.

A NOTE indicates important information that helps you make better use of your computer. NOTE: The diagnostic pattern will consist of a two digit number being represented by a first group of LED blinks (1 through 9) in amber, followed by a 1.5 second pause with the LED off, and then a second group of LED blinks (1 through 9) in white. This is then followed by a three second pause, with the LED off, before repeating over again. Each LED blink takes 0.5 seconds.
The system will not shutdown when displaying the Diagnostic Error Codes.
Diagnostic Error Codes will always supersede any other use of the LED. For instance, on Notebooks, battery codes for Low Battery or Battery Failure situations will not be displayed when Diagnostic Error Codes are being displayed.

Is XP Pro compatible with the Audio Device in a Dell INSPIRON 1721? For the record I hate VISTA, so when I had VISTA Windows Explorer totally lock up three times in one evening recently, I grabbed a new XP Pro CD that I had purchased recently, reformatted the hard drive, and I installed Windows XP Pro. It installed just fine, however I did forget to set up the hard drive for the Dell MediaDirect 3.3 (which has to be done just prior to installing the OS), but I figured I did not have to install that. That program and a separate button left of the power button, enables your laptop to be used like a DVD player without booting to Windows first, which is something I rarely do. So I proceeded one by one to install the drivers, and everything worked EXCEPT the sound. I tried several audio drivers from DELL, most of which I got the error: wrong driver for your hardware. Finally one of the drivers designed for XP installed, but I still had no sound. Then I found a Vista driver that installed, but still no sound.

I have a program called PC Wizard 2010 that identifies the name of your specific hardware componants and it says my Audio Device is a: ATI Technologies SB600 High Definition Audio Controller. DELL Driver Downloads say that the driver R171786 - SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio but it obviously failed because it was designed for VISTA. Others that failed to install were: R160062, R167846, and R94481. Two drivers that I tried did install but failed to be the right one for my ... Read more

well guys, i was trying to clean up my laptop as id just bought a new external hd and went about it by trying to do the dell factory inage restore to restore it to its original settings an totally flush my hd of lose programs eg.
BUT
i got a error message when doin that so tried again to no avail. then my system couldnt boot up by the intial dell boot scree. i got worried so put my vista disc in to boot from that fearin some files had been corrupted. but it says that i cannot detect my hard drives or more accurtaly that there are no drivers for them.
i got the sata drivers form the dell web but they were no good.
i called tech support, they know of this problem ( its rife in 1500 and 1700 model laptops)
apparently they can easily fix it but at a massive cost to me. which i think is bs as i was just following their instructions to clean up my computer.

please can someone help with this before i have to pay those douches for whats seems to be a inbuilt fault to squeeze cash outta computer illiterate chumps like me

The keyboard on my new Windows 10 Dell laptop stopped working completely so I tried shutting down. Windows seems to have shut down but the computer won't turn off (the keyboard backlights are still on and the fans are going). Pressing and holding down the power button (even for over a minute) does nothing, I can't pull the battery as it's inbuilt.
Is there anything I can do other than waiting for the battery to run itself out? And what if it doesn't turn on again after that?

After installing an automatic update, my labtop was working perfectly fine last night i closed it i believe around 1230 am. Ive been trying to turn it on since 7pm today and it will start turning on and not show the logo and keeps making beeping noises. Is there any way I can fix this please

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 3000 won't turn on and beeps 5 times with black screen.

Hi,
The 5 beeps are normally a signal that there is a problem with the CMOS battery that powers the BIOS on the system (among a few other things).  This is not the battery that you think of that powers the system on, off, etc., when it's not plugged into an ac adapter.
Try this:  Remove the battery and AC adapter from the system, then hold the power button down for 10 to 30 seconds.  That should remove any residual power in the system.  Then plug the AC adapter back in and see if the system powers up at that point.
A quick question, when you say it won't show the "logo" are you referring to the Dell logo or the Windows one?  You may also want to see if you can go in and reset your BIOS if you actually see the Dell logo show up.
Let me know how those two steps go and if it helps or not.  If not, please let me know if you're seeing the Dell logo at all when it starts up.  And also which version of Windows that you're running on the system.  If you're seeing the Dell logo but Windows won't start it leads towards something different than the CMOS battery, although the 5-beeps would seem to indicate that was the problem.

Greetings. Hoping someone can help with reformatting a Dell Inspiron 1721; 3 GB RAM; 250 GB HDD; Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 1.9 GHz processor; Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS.

Reformatted and clean install of Vista 2 months ago. Afterward, everything worked perfectly until a couple of weeks ago. After automatic updates installed Vista SP2, suddenly Windows Media Center (which I've never used and am not at all familiar with and have no plans to learn it and use it in the future) began opening by itself over and over.

Also, a little window popped up on boot up that said something to the effect that my new hardware needed intalled; however, I have not added any new hardware. Have no idea what it was trying to install.

Also, intermittently, programs I'm using just exit out even though I have not pressed exit. And, the mouse intermittently jumps around by itself or won't respond to the touchpad - - it opens programs, opens the start menu, types gibberish into the 'Start Search' line, closes programs, opens browsers or browser tabs, closes browser tabs, etc, etc, etc.

Also, sometimes an odd looking exit menu appears top left screen in a different resolution than the screen is set at. AND, sometimes, when I'm working, all of a sudden the keys won't type but the computer issues a loud beep every time a key is pressed.

When problems first started, I immediately ran system restore. No change.
Tried another date in system restore. Still no change.
Went through all restore points and... Read more

Hi Sharon.

If your game then so am I.

All the things you stated sound like a possible infection or operating system corruption due to unknown reasons. Although none, or a questionable one, was found. I am in total agreement with Garmanma. Also the fact that the rootkit scan is disabled in AVG causes me some concern.

Seems you already have a pretty good idea how to format the drive and reinstall your OS and drivers....... But would like to take it one step further in this case though. I would like to have you wipe the entire hard drive to zeroes prior to formatting and installing the OS. This would include what is called the MBR = Master Boot Record, the partition the OS is on as well as the restore partition. Of course this would leave you only the option of reinstalling via the CD. All pre-installed software will be gone for good. Complete restore CDs are usually available from the OEM for a nominal cost.

The only reason I suggest this manner is, 1)The problems you are describing does somewhat resemble infection symptoms. 2)Depending on the possible infection type a simple reformat may not get rid of it. I have also read that it is possible for the restore partition can become infected as well.

The procedures are really pretty easy, the program(s) to wipe the drive to zeroes is free and we will do our best to get you through the whole procedure as painlessly as possible.

Let me know what you decide.

I saw that there were others with this issue. I already tried things like resetting the ram, taking out my battery. Even with my laptop plugged in, not lights are showing up and the power button isnt starting anything. I tried to listen and hear if anything was happening, but no luck. I just to get help if there is anything I can do to trouble shoot or just figure out what the issue is so I can get it fixed . I was running Windows 10 on there.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R won't turn on ! No lights will turn on .

Hi PARTH511722,
What is the exact system model?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? Could you try powering on with another battery?
Remove the memory and disconnect the HDD and try powering on the system with adapter only / battery only and check.
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
If the adapter led is stable when connected to the system and there are no signs of power, then the motherboard is suspected faulty.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
As we understand that the system doesnt not boot and just goes up to the Dell logo and after multiple restarts the system works fine.
In that case ,Can you boot the system into " Safe mode " and check if the same happens..You can also perform a system restore and also check for updates pending .
Thanks

No Power, bottom line.

I had some issues trying to get it going as I have the flu and no patience so gave up. Went to turn on this morning and it wouldn't turn on. Charged all day, no go. Removed and put back in the Memory, Hard Drive and that is where I am.

When I hit the power button, first the power light turns on or a couple seconds, then (click) and the battery light goes on for a couple seconds then nothing.

When the power cord is plugged in (with and without battery attached) there is no "charge" light that comes on, and can't recall if one ever did... anyone recall? The light on the charger box is green though.

I've tried with battery out, memory and WLAN out and plugged in an just nothing... Also did Windows Update as well a couple days ago when it did work.

At this point I'm thinking its the charger? But it hasn't been used in years, so why all of a sudden would it not charge? Plus those 2 lights pop on for a second then shuts the computer off. I don't know how much cords are these days, but for a "toy" computer (like to take in yard and read/play games etc or a movie, the screen is AMAZING! Soooo. Opinions? Willing to try anything, just extremely broke now, and can't take into the shop to fix. I have 2 perfectly good other computers to use, I just want my "Pinky" back!!! Thank you!!

Hello all
I'm running an Inspiron 1721 with the following spec:
2x AMD 64 (2GHz) and 320GB 5400RPM SERIAL ATA RAID 0 STRIPE
I'm currently running 32-bit Windows Vista and I'm trying to custom install to Windows 7 32-bit. All system requirements have been met however, the following issue occurs every time I try to install. I have tried installing from CD and from a USB boot but I get the same issue each time:
Upgrade install: when checking compatability the system asks me to upgrade the drivers for my SATA RAID controller. When I try to upgrade the drivers,Vista informs me that they are up to date, so I can't go anywhere with it.
Custom install: as a direct result of not being able to use the drivers for my RAID controller, Windows 7 cannot see any of my drives and so I am unable to install the new OS.
I have tried customer support who have been 100% useless, and I'm left wondering why the hell I paid out loads of money for a 4 year extended support warranty on my laptop.
Can anyone help me?

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Dell has no Win 7 drivers for this system. What is happening is it needs a SATA driver. To get around this try booting into the system bios and change SATA Operation to ATA or AHCI. Whatever it is not set to. Save the changes and then try installing Windows 7. Once it is installed go back and change this setting back. Let me know if this resolves your issue.

SO at first I figured the keyboard on the dell was needing replaced, after using a USB keyboard I still couldnt use certian keys.

Now I couldnt use the same keys { enter, delete, m,v,g,j,k, ect) with the usb keyboard or the onboard keyboard.

Does any one have any sugestions on how to fix this issue, I am debating on flashing the bios, I want to do a freash install of the operating system, yet I am not oging to try with the keyboard issues. I have tried two different USB keyboards with same results and same keys not functioning. I did a factory reset to windows vista

Reason I am wanting this fixed is It will be a PF sense box, since it has

slots for cards, plus Ethernet and docking bay which i belive i can get dual NIC docking bay. ( havent gotten that far. )

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 running Vista, and I've had it for about 2 1/2 to 3 years. Today I was online and all of a sudden a blue screen came up and my laptop shut off. I don't know if it was THE blue screen of death because I didn't have a chance to look at it, but it certainly was a blue screen of doom =/

Anyways right after the blue screen came up and my laptop turned off, the caps lock light (the lock icon w/the 'A' on it next to the power button) kept blinking. At the time, my laptop was plugged into the AC adapter charger thing (I don't know about how computers work, i just know how to use the internet!) so its not like the battery was low or anything. I kept pressing and holding down the power button several times with the AC charger thing in the laptop, and without the AC charger thing, and it would not turn on. The only thing that happened was that the caps lock icon would blink blue for about 45 seconds (or 45 times, not sure) and laptop would make the sound it always makes when its about to turn on. Then after the 45 seconds/times, the sound would stop. Nothing ever appeared on the screen.

The laptop was very hot at the time, but I've had this computer for years and its been hotter than it was today and it never did anything like this. Also, for the past 2 weeks or so, i've been getting a popup in the bottom right corner of my screen (where the time is) saying that my battery is reaching the end of its usable life and needs to be replaced. Has my laptop ba... Read more

Hi Experts,
I have a 3 year old Dell Insiron 15-5521 laptop.
Up to now I have had no problems with it, but it now won't power up.  The charger has a green light on it but there are no lights on the laptop at all, and pushing the power button does nothing. It always run in Main power, its battery have some complaints that why I removed it before 3 months.
I have tried to keeping the power button pushed for 30 secs and then plugging main power back in, but nothing.  I have also tried a Universal power adapter which I know works on other laptops, but nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you

There should be a series of beeps during start-up, how many are there?

Before I get into my question I would like to disclaim that I am not at all a computer person, I mean I don't know the names of the different parts. Heck I can't really remember the model of my computer all too well buuut, I went to work today and my computer was off (as stated before it's an all in one Dell Inspiron) and I got home, deciding to play video games however it didn't turn on. The power button light is a white kinda blue colour like usual and it sounds normal but after about 2 seconds it shuts off (It doesn't even get to the screen with the Dell logo on it). I've unplugged my Wacom tablet and all things like that, also note the light on the cord coming from the back of the computer is on just like usual. This computer was bought in December 2015 so it's not old at all and I'm quite worried because it is so new and rather important to me so any advice would be nice, especially if you could break it down into simple terms so someone as dumb as me can understand. Thanks!!!!!

Answer:All in one Dell Inspiron won't turn on

We need to know the exact model number. If you don't know it but have the Service Tag number (look for a sticker on the PC), go to Support and type that number into the Enter a Service Tag or other product ID box about 1/3 down the page. It should tell you the model number.
You can try this for starters:.

Disconnect the power cord from rear of PC; don't just unplug it from the wall
Now press/hold the power button for ~30 sec
Reconnect the power cord to rear of PC
See if it boots now

Hi everyone, i just bought a Dell Inspiron 1564 laptop delivered on friday 31/07/10
I started it up for the first time yesterday and it worked fine. Today i was using the laptop and all of a sudden the screen went black and i heard a buzzing noise comming from the laptop, so i tried crl-Alt-Del nothing happened so i just switched it off. Now the thing will not start at all. there are three lights on the bottom of the keyboard a power light a battery light and another light with a picture that looks like a round drum. When i press the power button the power light and the drum light flick on then off. i can hear a very slight click come from the laptop but nothing else no fan no screen nothing. I'm going to contact Dell customer support but there not open on Sunday.

Does anyone know what this might be?. I've waited ages for Dell to deliver this laptop and it's broke in less than 24 hours !!

Thanks to anyone that posts.

Edit: i have tried removing all leads and battery. i also tried to turn it on with no battery and just the power lead but still no luck !!

I have replaced the hard drives with new blank ones, but I cannot now reinstall Vista from the Reinstallation DVD because no drives are seen.
I have updated the BIOS to the latest available version, but still no joy.
I have taken out the drives and, using an external HDD port, can access them from another PC, so I'm certain there's no issues with the drives themselves.
I've tried Paragon 2010 Suite, but even that cannot "see" the drives, so I'm deducing that it's an issue peculiar to this Dell model.
I would be grateful for any advice.
Thanks,
Dave

my lap top doesn't want to turn on i have my ac adapter pluged in it showes a light on the battery but it just doesn't want to turn on. i tried disconnecting the battery and ac adapter pressing the power button and connecting them again but it still won't turn on. please help

Answer:dell inspiron n5110 won't turn on

Remove the battery -- if the system will power up on AC only, the battery has failed and will need to be replaced.
If the system won't power up on AC only, disconnect the adapter and remove the battery.  Hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall the memory modules.  Then try powering up again.  If the system still won't power on, the mainboard is bad -- on a system of this age, given the cost to replace the mainboard -- you're better off shopping for a replacement system.

I am a bit of a tech head, and urged my wife to wait until the "good" touch screen haswell laptops came out.  I even wrote some glowing reviews of Dell's inspiron 15 7537 after I received it ([View:www.amazon.com/.../ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt])

Unfortunately, just a few weeks out of warranty, the trusty laptop has stopped powering up.
The symptoms: laptop will not power up.  Things I have tried:

Making sure the power cable was plugged in (LED is on the power ring on the plug itself)
Making sure the PC recognizes the power cable and the power adapter isn't loose (power ring brightens when plugged in)
Trying different outlets, including several direct to wall outlets
Removing battery and trying to power up with just power cable
Removing battery and AC adapter, holding power for 3+ minutes to "clear static charge" as recommended by some self-help websites
Doing above and then plugging power cable in
One ram chip at a time
No ram

Unfortunately nothing works.  Fans don't turn on, lights don't turn on, display doesn't turn on, no noises or beeps.  Other than the power ring on the plug getting brighter when I plug it in, there is no indication that the device is receiving any power.
I'm pretty bummed and hope there is a solution and/or that Dell can help make things right.  The build quality of the device is so high and my wife has been very satisfied and I hope that she can get more than a year of... Read more

I have had the same problem.  This computer has been horrible for this.  I have replaced the motherboard and sent it out to depot for repair.  It still does this.  I have to remove the back cover and pull the battery then put the battery back in and then it will work for a while then I will have to do it again.  I have been very disappointed with this laptop.  We use Dells at work and I have never had this problem until this computer.  I have been disappointed in Dell helping me with the issue.  They tell me that nothing is wrong with the computer but It has been a pain with this issue.

Computer won't turn on. When I hit power button, it quickly blinks amber and makes a split second sound like something is turning inside, then nothing. If I hold the power button down, it will blink amber about every second and make the quick sound, but nothing turns on. Green light on back, below power cord, solid green. Everything is unplugged from the machine. Recently, from time to time, computer has been making constant noise, like fan running loud our perhaps hard drive??

I accidentally ripped off a piece of material that connects a wire thing from my laptop's on button to another connector, now my computer does not turn on at all. The thing that connects to the unbotton on my laptop could have been easily clipped back in to ths connector, but my problem is that the connector itself accidentally came off. Not sure what it's called but it's about the size of the nail on your pinky, and if you lift it up, you can easily attach the wire thing to it.

Here's a picture of the what the problem looks like.
http://i.imgur.com/IWKew.jpg
From this picture, you can see that the wide wire thing connects to a small piece on the computer. The other end of that wire should connect to a similar piece found on the power button (this is the piece that came off).

http://i.imgur.com/N2dT3.jpg
The piece that came off was connected on the green item with two screws.
My laptop is pretty much broken, the hinges are dislocated and there's a disc problem along with other issues. I just wanted to turn it on somehow, so I could erase all the data in it before selling it for parts. If anyone knows a way to repair it or turn my laptop on some other way, please let me know. Thank you.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1764

Answer:Any other way to turn on my Dell Inspiron 1764?

Hi glamx,

By the looks of the picture, you would not be able to power on the compuer till the time this button is fixed. Further, as you are just looking to wipe off the data before you sell off the parts, you can actually take the hard drive out of the computer and use an external casing to wipe it clean by connecting it to another computer.

That would atleast solve the purpose of cleaning your computer.

I have recently bought this laptop and have had it since the 21st of Dec 2016, and this morning I was watching a YouTube Video and all of a sudden my screen turned black, and at the top there was a sort of static on the screen, scared I quickly turned the laptop off (used to this as my old laptop that was really old kept doing these kinds of things and I was used to turning on and off to resolve things) But as I turned it on the lights on the keyboard turned on and the on switch did too, but the screen itself hadn't. After leaving it 10, 15, 20, 30 minutes it still hasn't done anything, and the ventilation hasn't turned on either, So honestly I have no idea what to do I've consulted to the internet, and Dell Support but everything leads me to using my laptop and updating stuff on my laptop which I cannot do. So I've resulted to just leaving my laptop on to wait for it to run out of battery to plug it on to see if anything works, but if not I'm surprised because it's a brand new laptop and has no reason to be broken. Please help I'm really worried....

Don't know why this is happening. Six yr. old system running smoothly until about a week ago. I have diligently backed all files up using Macrium software - thought I was covered for data loss and voila! now the system won't turn on! Obviously I now cannot get to my data. The power brick does have a light on it so I have been told due to this fact, it is probably the motherboard that is dead. I ordered a new power supply which is due to arrive today -- ordered before I knew about the light indicating power supply ok. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop PC that's 7.5 years old. It was working fine until today, when it wouldn't turn on at all. I kept pressing the power button and nothing happened at all - the computer just wouldn't turn on.

I tried a different power cord and that didn't work. I opened up the computer and I could see an orange light on the motherboard was lit, and a green light on the back of the power supply was lit too, so the computer is getting power.

I took off the front of the case and tried pressing on the power switch directly, and that didn't work. I tried pressing on where the power switch wire connects to the motherboard to make sure it was connected and that didn't help.

Any idea on what's wrong?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 530 desktop PC won't turn on at all

Most likely a failed pw supply however it can also be a failed pw switch/wiring or a failed mb. To test the pw supply, swap in a known good unit. Note known good does not mean new; it means a unit from a test system or a working system that you know works. A new pw supply can be DOA just like any other part and that will really mess up your troubleshooting.

To test the switch/wiring, pull the pw switch leads from the mb. Jump across the mb pins with a small screwdriver or other metal object. If the board starts, you know either the switch or wiring has failed.

Hey Guys,
My mother's Dell Inspiron 530s won't turn on, boot, nothing.
We came home and it was "turned off" the power button was yellow.
I tried to turn it on buy the power button, but nothing. I pulled the power chord and after a few seconds it did turn off. I plugged it back in and the light went immediately back to yellow. Not black as it should have.
I unplugged it and pulled it out and opened it up. Removed the CMOS battery, tested it....it's at 3v like it should be, let it sit for a minute and put it back in, turned it on and nothing. I think that it might be the PSU. What's my next step in troubleshooting it?
Help please.

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help with this as I'm in Australia (usually UK) and my work laptop has decided to stop working!

It is a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720, about 3 years old.

When I press the power on button only the HDD button lights up and nothing happens. The light stays on and the only way it goes off is if I take the battery out.

The same thing happens regardless of whether I am trying to power on using just the Battery, AC charger or both together.

I've searched online and found various articles giving instructions on removing the battery and AC charger then holding the power button to drain any residual power, I've tried this many times but it hasn't worked.

I can't find anything explaining why only the HDD light is coming on. Clearly there is power going in so it must be another issue.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this as I'm screwed if I can't get it working!

I've tried removing and re-inserting the battery, which should be charged up, but nothing happens. Does anyone know if this could be a hardware or power supply problem or something else? My warranty has expired, but I'd rather not have to take it to a repair shop. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi

I have a Dell Ispiron 1100

It won't turn on

I press the power button and if there is no AC power attached
the lights light up while I press the button, but no start up

When the AC power is attached, I don't get any lights at all

It's been happening for a while

I used to flip it over and pull out the battery, then replace it
and try again, after a few times it worked

Then I realised that just by opening the screen and trying it, then closing
the screen, then opennng and trying again... after a few times it would start

(are there any wires that would be affected by that??)

Once it started, so long as I left it plugged in, and the screen open it would always restart first go

I also think, that when it was unplugged, closed, etc so long as I started it agin fairly soon, it worked

I've just been overseas for a week in a colder climate and now I can't seem to get it started at all

I've tried with battery in, with battery out, AC in AC out

Any help would be much appreciated

Dell Inspiron won't turn on

We have a professor at our university that turned in a Dell laptop with exactly the same symptoms!

Really, with the battery alone installed, the lights flash momentarily when the power button is pressed. If the charger is connected (or the charger alone): no lights
(Just like Christoff)

The machine won't start up and there was some story about how it died last time the lid was closed. We are suspicious of a faulty lid interlock that is keeping the laptop in hibernate (or some deep, permanent sleep).

Another theory - Does anyone know if these have an internal power fuse, such that the external power brick isn't actually getting DC into the main board or charging the installed battery? We can't find any info about the power distribution or a schematic.

Hello.
My Dell Inspiron 3543 won't turn on. I tried to remove the battery and charging cable, hold the power  button for 1 or 2 minutes and then reconnecting the power cable and start the laptop. However it's not powering on. This happened after i restarted the laptop because was stuck at welcome on windows 7. He remains all the time at welcome so I restart and start in safe mode. After another restart it's working, i don't know if this is the cause. The led on the power cable its working and everything it's connect correctly. But when i connect the power cable to the laptop without the battery , the led on the laptop it's not turning on. I don't know if the led needs to be on.
If i need to provide more details let me know and sorry for my English.

I have a Dell inspiron 1721 that was rolled back to xp. Everything on the computer worked fine up until the 11th or 12h of this month. The computer froze completely and had to be restarted. When it came back up it said that a registry key had gone missing (or something along those lines) and had been restored by a backup copy. Ever since that day, I keep getting that same error message every time the machine starts up.

Second problem:

I tried to use my webcam yesterday, but it came up with an error saying Fatal Error "Load Failed!" followed by the "LiveCam.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close yadda yadda yadda.."

The details of the error are as follows:

AppName: livecamde.exe AppVer: 2.0.15.0 ModName: livecamde.exe
ModVer: 2.0.15.0 Offset: 0000d8de

I thought it was a problem with the drivers so I downloaded one from Dell "r173082" which said it was for the 1721 XP webcam, but nothing has changed. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the matter with it?
Third problem:

Firefox has been running agonizingly slow lately, especially over the past two days. I did have a few windows open, but definitely not the most I've ever had open at one time, yet I've never seen it run so slow. The problem seems to come and go though, like right after a restart, firefox is just impossible to use. Right now it seems normal, but signing up for this forum took me over half an hour! I have a n7110 17r, i got it used so there is no warranty on it. I got it around February of this year. Then one day around May the screen stopped working but the fan and everything else worked still. I decided to take it apart to see if the cable to the screen was on correctly but then when I put it back together nothing started working and there are no lights except for the Windows mobility center button (the one with 2 gears on it). It lights up as soon as i plug in the charger in the laptop with no battery or if the battery has some charge and I push the power button. Is there a way to fix this or is this laptop dead?

Answer:Dell Inspiron n7110 17r wont turn on

Hi VINDOG25,
Download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2c6rRgA - remove the memory modules, disconnect the HDD / ODD and power on the system and check the exact # of beeps in a cycle. This will help diagnose the source of the issue.
Press and hold the fn key + power button - it should initiate diagnostics and if there is an error, count the exact # of beeps in a cycle and it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Connect an external monitor and check if the display works fine.
If nothing goes, I would primarily suspect the motherboard.
As there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

So I won a Dell Inspiron 17r 7720 SE since 2012. Service Tag HG3VFT1 . Recently I encountered problems with the Nvidia GPU 650m . I was not getting detected by my pc.Even the latest official drivers won't recognise it.So I concluded that a cleanup of the inside would solve the issue. Moreover the laptop was also running quite hotter. So last night I took apart my laptop following a video guide from PartsPeople.com cleaned it up with rubbing alcohol ,replaced the thermal paste with Arctic Silver compound. And put it back.Frankly it was easier than I thought. But after everything the laptop won't turn on.There's nothing ...no beeps,no less nothing .It's just dead.

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5547, and as the title states it will not completely shut down.  I have tried a Reset (Windows 10), and it did not solve the issue.
My guess is what is causing this issue to happen is the new Samsung EVO SSD I installed around the same time this started happening.  But why would this cause the problem?  I'm in another country now- It is extremely hard to return these things.
What happens is this: We turn it off normally, shutting it down completely (Not hibernate) and the backlights on the keyboard remain lit.  We then have to hold the power button until it actually shuts down.
If we didn't know about this issue or forget, this causes the laptop battery to die overnight, which can't be good for the battery.  In fact, that's what happened.  I thought the problem was that the laptop was turning itself on, but it seems to be the opposite- It doesn't turn off.  Now, here and there this does not happen.  Sometimes it does turn off normally.
Any suggestions?  Is this really because of the SSD?
Windows 10 Anniversary, 8 GB RAM, Intel Core i5 4th Generation, 500 GB Samsung EVO SSD

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15-5547 won't turn off without forcing it to. Why?

Hi Rocketman16,
I would suggest you to update the BIOS and Video card driver on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the BIOS from BIOS section and Video card driver from Video section onto the system and install it.
http://dell.to/18r60nI
If the above steps do not fix the issue then please boot the system into the Safe mode to check if the system shutsdown from this mode. Please use the link below to start system into safe mode.

I have read through previous posts regarding this subject but none seem to be similar to my issue.  I have, for the past year, had some difficulty getting the power button to turn on.  There are no beeps and I have used both with the power cord and without it.
Generally what I have to do is jiggle the laptop top or move it back and forth.  This leads me to think there is a lose connection somewhere.  It usually turns on but I should mention that I also usually turn off laptop by "sleep" not off.  However, today I used "shut off" and had a very difficult time getting the laptop power button to turn the system on.  It is totally black and definitely shut off.  After hours I guess I jiggled the top in the right position and it came back on.
If you could share some thoughts about what the issue might be I would appreciate it.  I didn't know whether to return it to Dell for repair or find a local repair person here in Pittsburgh.  Obviously it is several years old and I don't want to pay a fortune to repair it.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series won't turn on

Start by replacing the DC jack in the system - if you need a part reference, post the full model number (i.e., 7531, 7779, etc.).
Any more than that and "several years old" likely means you're better off replacing the system -- the mainboard replacement that would be needed will run you a few hundred dollars and on a system more than 2-3 years old likely means a replacement system is a better idea.

Answer:Need help dell inspiron 8500 wont turn on

If the heatsink compound is conductive check to see if you have spilled some on the surounding board and if it is a naked chip, check the bridges are clean. Also try a cmos reset.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Vista that will not boot up. When I turn the computer on the fan runs but the screen stays black and nothing turns on. The battery light blinks amber, and the wifi catcher light blinks yellow then blue. I thought it was the DC power jack/USB board, so I bought and replaced it, but that didn't do anything. It still does the same thing. I couldn't find any diagnostic for the blinking lights (the keyboard lights do not light up). I tried re-seating the RAM and anything else I could think of, but nothing works. Does this mean my motherboard is fried? How can I tell if it is that, or something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1525 wont turn on

Hi this is from the manual

Solving Problems
Power Problems
If the power light is off — The computer is
either turned off or is not receiving power.
• Reseat the power cable into both the
power connector on the computer and the
electrical outlet.
• If the computer is plugged into a power strip,
ensure that the power strip is plugged into
an electrical outlet and that the power strip
is turned on. Also temporarily bypass power
protection devices, power strips, and power
extension cables to verify that the computer
turns on properly.
• Ensure that the electrical outlet is working
by testing it with another device, such as a
lamp.
• Check the AC adapter cable connections. If
the AC adapter has a light, ensure that the
light on the AC adapter is on.
If the power light is solid white and the
computer is not responding — The display may
not be connected or powered on. Ensure that
the display is properly connected and then turn
it off then back on.
If the power light is blinking white — The
computer is in standby mode. Press a key on the
keyboard, move the pointer on the trackpad or a
connected mouse, or press the power button to
resume normal operation.
If the power light is solid amber — The
computer has a power problem or an internal
device malfunction. For assistance contact Dell,

15 month old laptop worked fine yesterday, won't start today. The screen stays black, the laptop itself completely silent. No beeps, no fan, no sound a tall.
Green light IS on on the adapter, but no light on the front edge of the laptop. I have tried the recommended sequence of releasing static energy (remove battery, unplug from adapter, push on button for 60 seconds) and it doesn't work. I have brought it to the Microsoft Store at the mall, and they have tried multiple alternate power/adapter cords, with no success.
It sits on my desk - never travels (not to work, not to the coffee shop, not ever), never dropped, no spills. No sense of processor problems. Just won't turn on.
I called the out of warranty line at Dell and they said I could mail it to them and for $259 they will troubleshoot and replace the motherboard and see if that helps. Whatever repairs they do will have a 90 day warranty.
So here is the question for you: At the Microsoft Store they have an exact replacement for $600. Should I:
(A) Send off my computer for Dell repairs and hope that I get another 15 months out of it before something breaks again?
(B) Buy a new Inspiron and pay for the longest possible warranty this time?
(C) Migrate to Mac?

Answer:15 Month old Dell Inspiron 5758 won't turn on

Hi MDKRAUS,
When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
If the light on the adapter goes off when connected to the system, then you could try replacing the DC port first - this is the part you would need - http://bit.ly/2fsNKEJ
If that does not fix the issue, then the motherboard needs to be replaced.
If the system does not power on at all and the adapter led stays stable when connected to the system, again the motherboard might be faulty and needs to be replaced.
However, there are other components that could cause this behavior as well - like the memory / HDD. Download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2fQdagd- remove the memory and HDD and see if the system powers on. If it does not, then the motherboard is at fault.
To answer your 3 part query - Personally, I would suggest you to invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, whether you would want to stick with Windows OS or Mac OS based machine is your discretion.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hello my name is Sebastian Todd, I've been using my dell computer for more than 2 years now with absolutely no problems affecting it, due to my proper maintenance. About 1 month ago, I turned it off by clicking the "shut down" button. Ever since then, I haven't been able to turn it back on. When I push the power button on the tower, it emits a yellow/orange light for about a quarter of a second. I know for a fact that there is a sufficient power supply, due to the green light being emitted on the back of the tower. I don't know what to do, and am not economically ready to purchase a new computer. PLEASE HELP! (inspiron 545)

- Sebastian Todd

Answer:Dell Tower won't turn on/boot - (inspiron 545)

sebtodd
Does the power supply fan run/work?
The green light on the back of the power supply does not indicate that the power supply has not failed, it only indicates that power is reaching the PSU. What colour is the power button light, is it Blinking, Solid or Off?Are there any 'Beeps'?

hi my e1505 wont turn on when i press the power button, no light...no sound...nothing. Preceding this was an accident where orange juice was spilled on the bed where the e1505 was sitting but i think it only crept in where the cpu radiator vents are, so i opened it up thoroughly cleaned everything on the top and bottom of the mobo with rubbing alc and put it all back together and pushed power and no go. although its sounds like a mobo issue i have a sneaking suspicion its the tiny little board that holds the actual power button because in the past(before the orange juice) i would have this problem where it wouldn't do anything and that was eventually solved by pushing really really hard down on the power button, so i feel like it could be that the little power board's connections are weak or the power board itself is fried.

any thoughts?

Answer:Dell Inspiron e1505 wont turn on

The power board or motherboard could be damaged or shorted by the orange juice or by static electricity... when you disassembled the laptop

Hi. My Dell Inspiron 530S won't turn on. The green light by the power cord connection in the back lights up, but when I push the power button, nothing happens. No beeps or flashing colors, nothing happens at all. I have Windows Vista Home edition. The computer is between 2 to 3 years old. I just purchased Winferno Registry Power cleaner last week and after running it, the computer seemed to be faster. This same issue happened last week (before running Winferno) and we unplugged the power cord from the back of the PC for about 5 minutes and after we plugged it back in, it came on. Everything was working beautifully and then my son got on it and it kept freezing up. I didn't have time to look at it right then, so he did a proper shut down thinking that may resolve the issue. But the next morning, when I push the power button, nothing happens. We tried the unplugging again, even for an hour. But no matter what we do, it won't come on. I am not computer illiterate, but not an expert either. I think this may be a power supply issue, but would appreciate some feedback, before I purchase one. Thanks for any assitance.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop (out of warranty) that will not power up. When I press the power button, the power light goes on for just a few seconds, then goes out. No fan noise, nothing on screen, nothing period. In one of the forums I read to push the Fn button while pushing the power button, then holding. When I do that, the 3 LED lights (at top, the 3 LOCK lights) go on briefly, then go out. I have removed the battery, checked it (it's fine) just used AC power, just used the battery, nothing works. I am suspecting that maybe the internal power board is fried or possibly the power button circuit board is fried. When I took it to my neighborhood computer store, it worked fine (twice!). I am at my wits end. Can someone help me? Thanks for your time.

Hi all,

My Dell Inspiron 1525 has had some problems for awhile and just recently it was doing a lot better. But the other day, I ran a virus scan with McAfee and it found a trojan called NTOSKRNL-HOOK and so it scanned it and removed it. But it said it kept coming back. Anyways I turned off m computer to deal with it later and now it won't turn on. It gets to the Dell logo screen and loads the little white bar and then the screen goes black and it does it again and again until finally I just end up turning it off manually. Because it doesn't get past that page, I can't even boot it in safe mode or anything and all I can do is use the F2 and F12 to use diagnostics and such. If someone could recommend something, I would really appreciate it since I haven't had it more than a year or so (warranty is up). Thanks!

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3521 that came with Windows 8 installed. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and everything worked great. When Windows 10 came out I was reluctant to upgrade, but I finally did right before the free offer ran out. Again, everything worked great (except for now having a dozen user accounts that I do not need – but that’s another story).
After a month or so, Windows 10 did its upgrade and that’s when everything got messed up.
Now, my wi-fi will not even turn on. I click the toggle in Control Panel/Settings/Wi-Fi and it will toggle on and then immediately back off. The only way I can use wi-fi is to use a Cisco USB wi-fi dongle.
I, of course, have Googled till my eyes bleed, but can find nothing that has helped.
Supposedly, this model is on the list tested for Windows 10.
The onboard wi-fi adapter is a Dell Wireless 1703 802.11b|g|n (2.4 GHz)
Anyone have any ideas what to try?

TIA,
Bob Mathis

First of all I would like to sincerly thank Techspot memeber, Richard 1966, for saving me the cost of a new computer with his posted solution to the closed thread: 'Dell inspiron 1100 will not turn on'. I'm was so impressed with Richard 1966's solution that I was compelled to joing Techspot and post this 'thank you' and my comments. I have never posted previously so I hope I'm within Techspot protocol.

A few hours ago my Dell Inspiron 1564 would not turn on; it appeared that no AC power was getting through the power switch, my computer was 'dead'. I tried changing batteries, using the power cord without a battery, plugging the ac power cord in while holding the power button down. I tired everything to no avail.
I went shopping online (on my wife's laptop) for a new machine.
On a whim I did an internet search on 'my Dell Inspiron will not turn on' and got directed tp the Techspot thread which contained Richard 1966's solution

As Richard 1966 instructed I disassembled my failed laptop, disconnected and then reconnected the touch pad, plugged in the power cord hit the power button and bingo, my laptop came on just like it has hundreds of times before.
This procedure took me about 1 1/2 hours. I have taken apart about half a dozen laptops over my computing years.

There is obviously a weakness in the Inspirons around the Sleep/Hibernate functions and the mechanism when the laptop is closed which triggers... Read more

Hi, I am hoping you guys(or gals)can offer some help.
My laptop is not even 2 years old (Dell Inspiron e1505)
I went to turn it on, and it would not start up.
Instead, it would power on and the screen would say black.
The fan would come on the power light would come on. Also,
the number lock and scroll lock lights would blink, and the caps lock
light was solid. I could hear the hard drive thinking about starting up.
This would last about 30 seconds, and then it would power off.
I read around the internet and found a solution, which was to
"reseat the memory". I took the bottom access panel off the memory
and took the chips out of the A and B slots. I then put them back in
securely and made sure they were in. IT SEEMED to work, when i turned
it on, the lights were no longer blinking. It started to power up (but the screen was still black) and it powers on for about 7 seconds and then just dies.
Please help if you can, I cannot afford a new computer and hope there is a simple solution. Thank you so much - Nick

1) HellRell. Stop spamming please. Posting more than once with the SAME thing in the post content is unacceptable... especially 3 times... in a row...

2) You said it worked for a moment after you reseated the RAM. This may suggest that there is a RAM failure. Try replacing your RAM. That's the simplest possible solution from what you've said here, that may work.

3) It sounds like you might have hit the typical DELL defect in well... just about everything... After about 2 years, the computer stops working and does something like that... I believe this is a dell conspiracy to get you to buy another one, however that might just be my opinion/superstition.

I have a dell inspiron 6000 adapter light went off, wife saiid dogs jerked it out running thru the house. got new adapter, adapter lights up, pc does nothing when power button pushed, no lights nothing. I tore it apart after reading about magnet sensor problem, and that was a msitake as my pc does not seem to even have that same part as mentioned in the post. Any suggestions are appreciated for this newbie. I will be getting a new pc for self, but would like to keep this one for the kids.

When the dogs jerked out the AC adapter, this probably broke the DC jack from the motherboard. This can be repaired, but you "tore it apart", maybe causing more damage

The computer is a Windows 7 Starter Dell Inspiron Mini 1012

Talked to Dell Support and they just want me to have a Dell repairman work on it, and have it shipped in, but still wanted to see if anyone here could give me some information.

The AC adapter has been tested on other computers, and it works.
Other AC adapters have been used on the computer and hasn't worked.
The computer will not power on. When AC plugged in, no lights come on.
It randomly came on for the first time in a month a minute ago, but after started up, randomly died a few minutes later, after everyone got excited that it turned on, but hasn't been able to power on since.

I've taken out the battery, and tried to turn it on without, but still nothing happened.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you for any and all help.

I would like to send it in for repairs. The problem I am experiencing is as follows: suddenly shut off, does not turn on, the power supply LED light (on the AC adapter) shuts off the moment I plug it into the computer. I'd tried everything, please, do not clarify what is wrong or send me messages about what I should do to fix it.
Again, I want it fixed, warranty has expired a long time ago.
What are my options?

Hi guys,

I have a laptop I'm working on that will not turn on/ charge. I've tried a different adapter to no avail. I've also taken a battery from an equally rated Dell Inspiron (different model) laptop and it does not turn on with that either.

I've replaced the charging component off a motherboard before but this one is different as it is not simply a connector that goes from the charging outlet and plugs into the motherboard somewhere. It is just a piece that is soldered on and I can't tell what route it's taking.

I've tested the charger using a multimeter and it outputs ~ 19.5v so it should be fine. Any ideas?

EDIT: After doing some research online, I found that the center pin of the charger 'port' (on motherboard) sometimes goes in. Has anyone replaced one of these? If so, do you just unsolder it and solder in the new one? Someone mentioned putting some solder in the center and that fixes it?

Answer:Solved: Dell Inspiron E1505 Won't Charge / Turn on

Does anything at all happen when you try to power it up, any lights flashing or sounds ?

If it doesn't work with a charged up battery there is a hardware problem inside the laptop.
If it was just the power socket it should still work from battery power.

I would try charging the problem laptop's battery in the other laptop then try it in the problem laptop.
