Re-Sizing of Web Based Application Windows

Question: Re-Sizing of Web Based Application Windows

A user has resized a window within a hosted web application to the point where it is exactly OK/too small, meaning it flickers back and forth between having scroll bars and not. While it is in this state, it essentially freezes out any other commands in the window or ability to resize it. Are there any ways to interupt this, delete application window size preferences or other ideas? I know this is data that is stored locally as I can execute the same functions on another PC sucessfully. This is viewing of a web hosted PC based medical application by a standard PC running Windows 7, IE9. Is there a way to delete user preferences for the application so it will default to orginal window sizing?

Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Re-Sizing of Web Based Application Windows

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Re-Sizing of Web Based Application Windows

As a workaround, you could try a free program I use myself to automatically resize your different applications. I know how annoying this can be, in my case, especially for Internet Explorer.

Greeting,

I'm trying to run an application, named Da51, STK, and POS, which are written in MS-DOS based since 20 years ago.

I execute command.com, I went to that folder, and manually type in the command myself.

Hi all,

I have read online that there is a solution for ADO-base application to work from top-down level, i.e, Win 7 to Win XP etc. However, I would like to know is there a solution to solve a bottom-up level problem for ADO application to work. A
short background story, I'm now working on a VB6 project which is running perfectly fine in Win XP ver. However, when I move my project from XP to Win 7 SP1 (Enterprise Version), and I tried to recompile it, I got the
"xx_deprecated" error.
I learn that using msado60_Backcompat.tlb is able to solve the top-down issue. So what about bottom-up? Does this method works too? Hope any gurus here can advise on me this issue. Thank you very much.

Bern

Can somebody explain to me what a LAN Based Application is? I've tried to google it but cannot find nothing. I would imagine its an application that only operates within a LAN, so i.e an office, so it wont be able to communicate to another office?

Thanks

Answer:LAN Based Application

It is an application that runs only on a LAN (Local Area Network) without internet access.

The LAN could be small, 3 - 4 clients; or large with over 500 clients in multiple buildings.
I have worked in both situations and used propriatary applications that ran on the LAN, but were not designed to be accessed from the internet.

Video Conferencing, Remote Access Control, Gaming Servers, all started as LAN applications.

This is the best info I could find and it isn't much.

I posted in this forum as I feel this is security related. Mods move if need be.

I'm looking for a web based (preferably PHP) change log program. It should do the following:

1. Be simple!
2. Allow people to enter descriptions of basic system changes
3. Changes should have categories by systems and can be filtered as such.
4. Time stamp the actions and have a "master display" where all changes can be viewed
5. LDAP authentication would be nice.

Does such a thing exist? My goggling has failed due to "change log" being such a popular term.

Bumpage. I could use something similar.

I have a neat idea that I would like to try out. Caution this is going to get nerdy not just geeky. I play D&D and my group uses a program that has our characters on it. It's a very old program made for Win 95 but I have made it work in everything from Linux to Vista.

I want to find a way to put the program online so my group can all edit their characters instead of doing it last minute before we play. I have a web server and hosting so thats no issue. My first thought is to use a VPN or terminal services but is there a way to just host the application by it's self? What I would like is something as non technical as having a desktop icon they can just click and it opens the program as if it's local.

Answer:make an application web based

Sure, just rewrite it in some language your web server can run and have it save all its data in an appropriate database accessible to the web server.

If you're talking about just putting the .exe on your website, it doesn't really work that way. By default, Windows won't run programs from the internet, and the web server won't allow you to write data to it. Depending on how the app works, you may be able to give each person a copy and configure it to save its data remotely in a central location. It might be possible to do something like Sysinternals Live, but I doubt you'd be able to do with just regular hosted webspace. That also doesn't take into account the saving/sharing of data, just the remote access to the .exe.

For the pharmacy I have made an application to support a drug preparation. This application is used in public pharmacies as well as in hospitals and industry.
This is a web-based application. So the installation has been done on the server with a configuration within IIS.
The clients start the application in InternetExplorer.
Why InternetExplorer? Because the client's preparation protocols, raw materials need to be weighed and labels must be printed. Hereby I use self-programmed ActiveX controls. And other browsers do not support ActiveX controls.
The web-based application is generally found to be good.
As Edge is increasingly "pushing", InternetExplorer seems to be the cornerstone, as well as the application described above.
My questions are now:
- How long are web-based applications still supported?
- Will Edge support ActiveX controls in the future?
- Is there an alternative?
I would appreciate if there were sound answers to the above questions.
Sincerely,
Wim

I have a web based application and want it to port it on Windows Vista . What are the procedures I must follow to check for its compliance on safe deployment on Vista?

Answer:Web Based Application Compliance Testing

Let's see. I have no clue, but if I think about it, it must be:
Does your web server software work properly in Vista?
Which flavor of Vista do you plan on using?
Do you have the hardware to support it?
Have you checked into any of the documentation?
If you have checked into the documentation, promptly ignore it, set up your own test box, and see how things shake out. If what you find out on your own correlates with the documentation, then you might start to have some confidence.

That's where I would start if it were me. Essentially, a web service comes down to the web-server software, some sort of a middle tier, and I would imagine some sort of database. Are they compatible with Vista?

Hi, I want to assign a custom icon to every file type no matter what the associated app is. I can change individual default icons, but they get overwritten by the application icon. Is it possible to do this :

And if so, how ? (I want to keep the file associations: .css and .txt are still getting open by Sublime, .ini by WordPad and so on ...)

Thanks.

Answer:Change Icons based on extension only, not the associated application.

The following Microsoft Dev Centre page explains how this can be done via the Registry. (Note: I have not tested this myself in Windows 10)

Theoretically speaking, if different types of malware files where to penetrate past Kapsersky's protection and get placed into "Low Restricted", how much damage is possible under default settings?

Answer:Kaspersky Policy Based Application Control

Theoretically speaking, damage same as trusted group. Low restricted is basically trusted group in default settings (Automatic mode). Application control is for interactive mode, in which the prompts gets issued, then Low restricted is useful as much as the user knows.

Hi,

Could anyone tell me which of the many languages I should/could use to develop a browser based application meant to support database functions (store/retreival to local disk of user inputs) and that could read and send data off the host PC serial port. I'm not looking for client/server stuff, just a plain browser based application running on a local machine for accessing its local serial port and sending/storing data to or from it. I could do it using WinAPI or MFC but I would prefer to have the familiar web based application instead.

I'm not familiar with ASP.NET, PHP, XML, SQL etc... so I wonder if any of them could dot the job ??

Thanks in advance.

I think the title sums it up, but I will expand a little more on it.

I have a web-based application that when I attempt to perform a function, brings up the IE11 context menu. The application's menu also appears (which is what I want), but in order to proceed with my task, I have to kill the IE menu via Task Manager.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've attached a picture.

Thanks in advance!

HI There,

I'm looking for a simple windows service that I can schedule to run that will do the following:

1.  Search a .log file for a given phrase - "fail" for example.
2.  If this is found, send an email and alert (screen popup) to the administrators.

I may need to resort to a batch file do this, but I hope was hoping something already existed and I could have this up and running very quickly.

Please let me know if you know of anything that fits the bill.

Thanks.

Answer:Looking for an application that searches in a file and emails based on finding

This is a simple batch file if you have an e-mailer that lets you send from the command line.  I haven't tried this in ages on Windows, so I don't know which one(s) might be available.

You should take a look at the post, How to create a command-line toolkit for Windows, on these very forums, paying special attention to the "grep" command that's part of UnixUtils.  Grep allows you to do the kind of search for text content you're seeking with ease.  You can then either query the status code returned after the command or redirect the output of the command to a file, and check that its size is not 0 bytes, to determine whether it found what you're looking for.  A simple 'if' construction afterward to trigger the e-mail to be sent and you're done.

You may prefer to go with installing Cygwin rather than the UnixUtils if you want something more current and want to have a more extensive set of Unix commands available to you under Windows.

Hi All,

Im trying to install AT&T application which is a profile based application. Means it installs in the user profile directly instead of other location.

My Problem is user dont have the admin access, either i need to use my ID or administrator ID. Which installs application into Appdata\Local folder which wont be accessible by other users.
How to i enable the application for other users as well without providing admin access

Answer:Installing profile based application in other users folder

What ATT app is this? If it's for accessing the internet then that doesn't require any installed program, just plug in the wire or access wireless signal via icon in SYstem Tray. Any installed program beyond this for this purpose is bloatware.

But once we know what the program is for exactly we can help you better.

Question: re-sizing windows

My system is Windows XP Home Edition running Explorer 6. Every couple of days, when I open a browser window, it opens maximized with no minimized option. I then resize the window, close and it will keep the settings for only a couple of days, then revert to the maximized window with no minimize button.
Can anyone help?

Trying to help a friend figure out why when she re-sizes her windows they don't stay. Seems like when you size a window and then close it it will open full size. All programs do this so it is baffling me.

any thoughts on what to check?

Answer:windows Sizing issue

This has been a bug with windows, for a while. The best solution, is to extend it to full size, then make it full size. After a while the windows will open, as if they were full sized. There have been other threads like this, with no real solution.

Be ready for many, many suggestions. I have seen this before.

I recently discovered an annoyance in my new computer build set up (Windows XP SP2), and that is if I stretch out an application to more than one screen, or if I stretch it out to both monitors, all is fine.

If I minimize the application, and then a short period of time afterwards maximize it, it is the way it should be, namely stretched out over more than one monitor, just the way I left it.

However, if I maximize the application after some longer period of time, say after the passage of 10 to 15 minutes, the application then reverts to the primary monitor only.

I turned off all Nvidea settings. I am letting Windows manage the 2 monitors.

It’s as if Windows “forgets” the application window size but only after the passage of a period of time.

Any ideas?

My games are the only exception. I can't maximize them, such as itunes, and I cant even stretch them, with firefox being the only exception. I've restarted my computer, I've tried stretching Firefox to the desired size then exiting and reopening it, but to no avail. Even my control panel window is half the size. I have a new laptop, the old one died. Now I notice that when I open a window of a web site such as TSG, the window is minimized to about 1/4 of the screen.
I have tried the following, and none seem to make the maximized window "stick"
1. I re-sized the window and closed it...didn't stick.
2. I re-sized the window and closed it holding down CTRL...didn't stick
3. I re-sized the window and closed it using the file option + exit...didn't stick.
Are there any other options? Is there a registery fix for this?

Hello, I have 2 middle-aged Windows 7 computers (they're both about 4 or 5 years old). On one of them, the pictures I use for desktop wallpapers are the correct size. Nothing is cut off. On my other computer, now with Win 7, any picture I select to make a desktop wallpaper is zoomed-in a bit. Its annoying. I have looked and looked and looked, and I can't find anything that will help this. There seem to be plenty of things that sound *close* , like re-sizing the desktop *itself*, but that's not what I want. I simply want whatever pictures I use as desktop wallpapers to be the correct size and not to be zoomed in. Like I said, I looked everywhere on Win 7 and can't find it. On the other hand, it could be right in front of me, but I just need someone to give me the right option to click 8-P  Thanks.

Answer:Re-sizing Windows 7 Desktop Wallpaper ?

Ha, love your name.

Well Windows 7 has a few options for background layout that can be changed in your settings. Click the Start Button, click Control Panel, and under Appearance and Personalization  should be a link "Change desktop background". Click Browse and select the folder where your desktop picture you want to use is saved. It will load all of the pictures in that folder so click the clear all button at the top and then check the box on the picture you want to use. Down in the bottom left corner you'll see a pull down menu named "Picture position:" There are a few options to play with so try selecting each one and look at how the background image changes. Hopefully one of those options is what you're looking for.

I'm using windows live mail on VistaHome Premium 32-bit. For some reason, when I open a message it now always opens in a maximised window. When I click on "restore down" there's no change. I can't get any manual resizing arrows around the perimeter of the window. I've had the problem in the past for no obvious reason and have solved it by using System Restore, but that hasn't helped this time. Has anyone else had this problem and/or can anyone suggest how to cure it? It's obviously not serious, but it's very annoying! (Live Mail is useful as it enables me to manage 2 pop3 accounts and 1 hotmail account in one place, but I think it's a cheap and tacky-looking interface. Deos anyone use an alternative e-mail client that can do the job just as well?)
Cheers.

Answer:Live Mail windows sizing

Do you have that same problem with any other windows?

If not, then click to make it a normal window and grab the
blue bar (by left clicking and holding the button) along
the very top of the window and move it down. Then
perhaps you can get the resizing handles.

If you are having that problem with all windows, then I don't
know the solution.

In Gallery, some of my photos don't fill the viewing frame. They can be enlarged by both Zoom and right-click "Re-size" but both fixes are only good for one viewing, not permanent. Without resorting to Paint or other external equipment, is there a way to get a permanent enlargement in Gallery?

Answer:re-sizing photos in Windows Gallery

Re-size saves in the same folder with the size appended to the file name.
Zoom is not re-sizing but zooming in to the image so the proportions fill the frame. You's have to crop and change the proportions to fill the frame.

Hi, i've recently been doing work with an internet cafe and we need a solution for re-imaging. I have an image created with ghost but I have no software to use to distribute it and the client PC's only have CD-R/RW and the image is 4.3GB.

I tried to use Ghost recovery disk to map the network drive where I have the image but the recovery disk didn't couldn't detect my network card (I'm guessing it didn't support the specific NIC of the client PC's)
I need a software solution that will let me re-image any computer from a centralized location (server) over the network. We have about 40-50 client PC's. So far we have been doing manual installs (The entire server crashed and took all the old software with it so we're starting from scratch)

If anyone could help, we could open this business a lot sooner than expected with software that can do this!

Thanks

Answer:Need: Server-based re-imaging application (Remotely Re-image clients from server)

A free solution would clonezilla or even RIS or WDS

I have developed an irritating problem. When I use windows media player, I am used to having the player wrap tightly around the video so that no space is wasted and so it's easier when you have multiple windows open. That is how I have always done it. However, sometime today that changed. I don't remember doing anything different, but now my windows media player starts maximized and I can't change the size of the player. I can change the size of the video playing, but not the size of the player.

If anyone could tell me how to change the size of the player so that it wraps exactly around the video, you will be my new best friend Thanks.

Update: I was searching google for an answer to my problem and I came across an idea that worked. I switched the view on windows media player then switched it back and it works fine again.

Then when I open things like Internet Explorer or Firefox the window is still very small, the toolbars are at like a 4pt font.If anyone has any help or suggestions on how I can get this back to the normal vantage point that every laptop typically uses I would greatly appreciate it, my eyes would even more.Thanks.

Answer:Windows Vista Viewing/Sizing Issues

Shot in the dark but based on the info given it could be driver issue? ? ? Other then that I would say that my best answer to this would have been change your screen resolution.

I am embarrassed to ask this most basic question but I have forgotten the procedure.I connect to the internet using Outlook Express and ever since I reformatted the hard drive (thank heavens for the supplied Sony system recovery disks!) whenever I click on a link to view details of a past transaction I have completed on eBay it opens in a very small window which irritatingly I have to maximise - sorry for the rather long sentence! How do I make the window open maximised when it opens initially?I am running windows XP with SP2.ThanksBrumas

Windows 7 Pro; can pagefile.sys be set to equal RAM or let Windows handle sizing? In two computers 16GB mem, in one 8GB. Will there be a benefit to setting pagefile.sys to 16GB or less? In the 3rd - set to 8GB?

Answer:Can pagefile.sys be set to equal RAM or let Windows 7 handle sizing?

Windows 7 / 8 have excellent memory management capabilities, and the Page File is best left alone. Only if one receives Virtual Memory is Low kind of messages, should one consider increasing its size.

Prior to Windows 7 the default paging file size was determined differently on different versions of Windows. But in general terms, when the paging file size was configured as “system-managed” its size would typically be calculated as RAM x (some number greater than 1) or RAM + (some number). In Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 the default size is equal to the amount of memory installed in the machine. A nice read here at Microsoft.

Also see Page File size recommendations for Windows 7 / 8.
Let Windows manage its size.

If you are looking at a website and a link in it popups a window, how can you control the size of the popup? Typically one like digiguide.com when checking the details of a TV programme. I've tried dragging the window to enlarge it, but when I close the browser windows and do it again it has forgotten the new settings. This is in Firefox, and I had the same problem in IE.I'm not talking about controlling popups using javascript, this is about ordinary webpages on the web that I don't have control over.thanksJP

I recently bought an Alienware 15 which has a 15 inch, 4k display screen. I absolutely love the clarity and the size however the issue I'm having is that the text in certain windows are either too small or it cut off or both. I have done search after search
after search and can't find anything. I've tried changing the resolution, changing the size of the icons and text, etc. Usually the windows that are having these problems are ones that cannot be resized or resizing them do not help with text issues. I simply
cannot get anything to work. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I just recently started receiving an error when trying to create a new email message, new document, etc through a word-based application such as Outlook and Word 2003. The error I was receiving:

The function you are attempting to run contains macro or content that requires macro language support. When the software was installed, you (or your administrator) chose not to install support for macros or controls.

Please note that this error just flared up recently and I have using these programs for a good 3 months without receiving this error. I have tried installing all the macro features in Word. I have also tried turning down the macro security levels to low. Thank you for your time!

No you cannot upgrade a 32-bit system to a 64-bit one. You can however, clean install a 64-bit system instead of the 32-bit one.

Hi
in 2015 I bought an Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop. It originally had windows 8. In June or July of 2016, I took advantage of Microsoft's offer to upgrade it to a Windows 10 via online. I got it to work fined. In October of 2016, I suddenly got a blue screen with the message 'no boot device found'. I used the diagnostics tool but nothing resolved the problem. I can go to the command prompt and I can see an x:\ and I am able to display the contents of the drive.
I bought a usb-based windows 10 in order to just start from scratch but during installation, I end up with a display saying  no drive detected.
I now want to do a low-level format, that is, erase everything in the drive, treat it like a 'virgin' drive and then install my usb-based windows 10 software.
When I am in command prompt, I am unable to execute the format command because the system gives me a 'drive is protected' msg.
What tool could you recommend I use to low-level the hard drive so I can install my usb-based windows 10?
Thanks.

You did not complete the process of neutralizing malware in your topic at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic469409.html/page__st__15 . You were requested to run a malware log and you failed to respond/resply to said request...and your topic was subsequently closed for lack of response.

That topic reflected symptoms that you now complain about.

I suggest that you send a PM to Gringo, asking for that topic to be reopened...and finish that topic...before making assumptions that your system is clean and devoid of problems previously existing.

I am using a tv screen for a monitor and have done so for years. Nothing has changed. My wireless keyboard stays on the couch and (this isn't the first time) I think some buttons got pushed and mest SOMETHING up. I am attaching 4 photos to show you what it is doing. I saved them in a paint software. Anyways, I came home and found that everything was SO BIG it wouldn't even fit on the screen. I didn't want to mess with the sizing because the desktop was fine and it fitted on tv screen fine...it was the icons and the web and the writing that was huge. My friend attempted to fix it and I ended up with a problem just as bad. All the words are so tiny I can barely read them. I enlarged the icons on the desktop but the words stay the same size, tiny (picture 2). I can zoom in and out when I am on the internet to be able to read what I am looking up (picture 4)but my tabs, bookmarks, taskbar, etc ..and even settings and menus on the computer itself (example - control panel)... stays extra small. Please somebody help me fix this? Thank you for your time. Leah

Question: swf sizing

i was wondering if there is a way to open a swf file and have it open at 100% and not automatically size to the explorer window. i know that if i create an html file for it and set the size, but i need this to be swf, because i can't publish it on the internet (it is going to be burned on a cd). so that brings me back to wondering if including some code to include with the swf that will make explorer open it at the correct size. alternatively, i was thinking i could just use html format but have explorer open the file from the cd (but i dont know how to assign the address to access the swf without it being on the net).
thanx for any suggestions you might have. this is semi-urgent so quick replies would also be appreciated

Question: Sizing in PSP

Hello! I was having some problems with PSP8. You see, when resizing a picture of mine, I click image ---> resize --> resample using smart size, lock aspect ratio, resize all layers, and under print size, I change the width to six inches (because I want the final product to be 6x4 or smaller) ---> OK

Here's a screenshot.
The problem is that after I hit "OK" the picture still seems very very big on my computer. At 100% it fills more than my entire screen after the resizing. To try to figure out what was 6x4 inches, I made a new [blank] image with dimensions 6x4 inches (to compare the two), which also turned out far larger than I would have expected.

The questions are:
1) Is this indeed a problem?
2) If so, how can I fix it?

Thank you very much in advance for your help! I'm new to PSP, so I'm still trying to figure this out!

Answer:WMP re-sizing

Forgive me if I'm missing a point and 'trying to teach you to sucks eggs', but have you selected the full screen view option (press alt-enter)?Assuming that works, you'll need to appreciate that expanding a small-scale video display to full screen size will unavoidably seem relatively low quality (a bit like watching a TV screen close up).I'd be interested to know how you get on. Depending on what you see on screen, we may have some other ideas to suggest. HTH.

Question: DIV sizing

I have a DIV arrangement where I have a DIV in-line and widthed across the full parent DIV and inside this DIV I have two DIVs floated so they are side by side. I am using their parent to provide a background image (repeat-x) but when displayed in FFox (my default test browser) the DIV does not expand and just hangs around collapsed at the top (showing it's 2px borders).Question is how do you get a DIV which is just used to give a background via an image say, to expand to the height of the image?

Answer:DIV sizing

I'm not a CSS wizard but I think...As the two inner divs are floated they don't fill the containing div therefore it has no height. You could:1. Give the containing div a height or2. nly float one of the inner divs

Question: sizing

I publish web-site newsletter, using MS Publisher 2007, for sundry organizations.
This necessitates making pictures, text boxes, borders, etc different sizes.
The task is usually simple, insert or paste whatever is to go on that page, then click on it with the mouse. That enables me to size manually.
Now, when I click on the object to size, nothing happens. I cannot move, rotate or size the object. I tried doing the same with MS Word, same results.
I'm not sure the two are related. however lately when I right click on a icon or file to act on, the menu window comes up but will not stay up. I have to click several times to get it to lock.

Hello

At Work we can't yeet install Windows 10 and unfortunately sometime i have some problem to downgrade some workation.
For example last time, trying to install Windows 7 i had this error "set up was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition" .

Could you tell me if exist a Live cd like Hiren boot CD but Based on Windows 10 or Windows 8 with some utility to erase completely the disk ?

Answer:Window Live Rescue based on Windows 10 or windows 8.0

Both the standard Windows 10 and Windows 8 installation disks will erase the drives. When the first Windows setup screen appears, press Shift + F10. This will open a command Window. Then assuming the first drive is where you are going to install Windows to it is:

diskpart
select disk 0
clean
exit
exit

That will erase the entire hard drive. If you are not sure the drive is disk 0 you can do:

list disk

before you do select disk 0 and that will show you the drives then you can select the correct one.

Then select the custom install option and when given a list of drives, select the unallocated space to install to and click next to let Windows set up the drive the way it wants to automatically.

Check the filesystem that is hosting the ftproot to make sure it's accessible both through ftp and through the OS. Maybe the drive is full or dead? Corrupt filesystem? Lots of things could be the problem. What all have you tried or checked?

I'm as guilty as they come in saying that Windows 7 as the general feel of Vista, however it is in fact the other way round. Let me explain...

Windows codename Blackcomb was supposed to succeed Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. A major feature planned for Blackcomb was an advanced storage system called WinFS. Blackcomb was put hold whilst an interim build "Longhorn" was announced for 2003. Longhorn acquired some of the features originally intended for Blackcomb. But after three major viruses; SOBIG, BLASTER & SASSER exploited flaws in Windows operating systems during the same period, Microsoft was forced to put both development of Blackcomb on hold to develop new service packs for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Development of Longhorn (Windows Vista) was also "reset", or delayed in August 2004. By this time development of Vista was already behind and to prevent further delays a number of features were cut from Longhorn.

In 2006 codename Blackcomb was renamed Vienna then again in 2007 it was renamed Windows 7 in 2007. In 2008 Windows 7 was adopted as the official name for the operating system.

In all irony a number of capabilities and certain programs that made up Windows Vista have been changed or removed in Windows Seven taking away some of it's functionality. Such notable features include the classic 'Start Menu' UI, 'Windows Ultimate Extras' (altho a patch exists to enable 'Dreamscenes'), 'Inkball' and 'Windows Calendars'. Another thr... Read more

Answer:Vista was based on Windows 7

This is common logic. Everybody (by now) knows that Vista was just a rushed, early version of W7, released just to make a little cash.

Microsoft said to Invest $3.5 Billion in Research in Motion | N4BB - News for BlackBerry

There isn't too much that RIM holds that is of use to Microsoft. There is Mobile Fusion (replacement to BIS), which supports iOS and Android and could theorectically link to Windows Phone (and by extension Windows on ARM) and could replace Domain, but I don't think that is enough for investing over half of RIM's current market cap.

However, RIM owns QNX.
I could go into the technobabble, but basically QNX is an OS designed for very high reliability, security, and responsiveness.

In Windows 8, Metro applications are "sandboxed," meaning there is a clear layer of separation between the application and the OS. This is how the same applications will work on Windows on ARM, and also allows for something else:

If Microsoft was to rebuild Windows on top of QNX, they would be able to take advantage of all of the capabilities of QNX, while still being able to run Metro applications flawlessly. Legacy support could be maintained by turning Desktop into a self-contained virtual machine, sort of like "XP mode"

thoughts?

Answer:[theory] Windows 9+ to be based on QNX?

More likely based on/around Projects Singularity and Midori

I am trying to export or somehow transfer customer history from an old DOS program called CMS (Contractor Management Systems) into a new business software (As yet to be decided). Any suggestions on how to do so without hiring someone to do time consuming data re-entry? I have been told to re-enter all the data into EXCEL because then that should import easily into the new software. The problem is that we have customer histories that go back twenty years and that includes every service we have provided over the years. Is there a fast way to export the DOS programs data in to EXCEL or will we have to have someone manually re-enter the data into EXCEL?

Answer:DOS based data to Windows 7

Will the old CMS program export to any type of file such as text (.txt) or CSV (.CSV), or any other?  Excel can import a variety of file types.

Can anyone recommend a server. We are looking at setting up a dictation system. Three dictation stations all writing to the server. The files would all be word or word perfect and this is all it would be used for. The only thing it would really need is redundancy for security reasons. A raid system and some sort of way to back it up.
Thanks in advance,
Jerry

In Internet Explorer 6.0 when I click on a new link and it opens in a new window, initially the window fills ¾ of the screen but within a second or two the window automatically maximises itself to fill the whole screen. How can I control this or stop it? I would like the window to remain at ¾ size.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Answer:Window sizing in IE6

backup your registry and reset the IE window location by following directions from here .

that will put things back to normal. then you can set the normal and maximized windows sizes.

you can also adjust the window to 3/4 size then hold down ctrl and close the window. That should save it.

NO .. But you can make it bigger ..
The quality will remain about the same as the small picture when viewed at a longer distance.
I'd resize it with the freeware Irfanview

I took some pics: uploaded from my digicam.

All OK.

Now, I need to print some 17 images for an insurance broker. OK so far.

Resized the pics using Irfanview to 50% of original size.

In Windows Explorer the thumbnails look fine: full color, good definition and good color tones.
Click on the thumbs to see them in the Windows viewer: monochrome!

Paste 'em to a Word (e.g.) doc same result.

I don't want to have to print nearly ten A4 pages of full photo resolution pics on photo paper when I should be able to reduce the size and capture 4 per sheet on A4.

What's the prob?

Why does the pic default to mono?

Beats me!

Answer:Re-Sizing Pictures:

50% of What ??? .. What file format ??

I'd resize them to 640x480 pixels ..
And save them as a jpg at about a 85% >90% compression level.
Then you could Paste them into a Word.doc and resize them to fit in the doc.

After re- sizing my C and D partitions using partition magic I can no longer see the D drive, when I go and use disk management I can see it is still there, but the shortcut I have for it dosent work. Os xp pro

Answer:Help, cannot see my D drive after re-sizing

You have most likely set the partition sizes incorrectly; a 30GB partition should have an input something like 32000000MB. These figures aren't exact so you will have experiment with the numbers, I've got four partitions on my second Hard Drive and it took a few attempts to get them right.

Question: FinePrint sizing?

I must have a screw loose.Bought this app, used it once, now want to use it to print 4 jpg files on one A4Five sheets to the album. How do I size/shuffle the prints to a fit?At present all I can manage is the centre part of each filling the available space!

Answer:FinePrint sizing?

In most DTP programmes you select the image which brings up handles on the edge of the image. You can then stretch or shrink the image. The best software has an option to keep the aspect ratio the same, otherwise the image appears distorted. You should then be able to drag and drop them in the position you wish.

Question: window xp sizing

hi just got a new monitor benq fp71v+ lcd and having problems sizing my screen i used to run 800x 600 now its 1280x1024 as the monitor advises to run at this size i can increase the messege box window title etc though properties advanced dpi 150% and appearence but not the menu inside the box ie the task bar menu its like its the windows defalt size text .how can i set a default windows text size,or can i download a theme to cover the resoloution

Answer:window xp sizing

Congratulations - you just discovered a basic flaw in the way TFT monitors work - vis-a-vis how Windows handles display screens, :-((I suggest you actually try it at 800x600 that you are used to. Some monitors are not too bad at handling non-native resolutions (some are pretty awful).Set up the display properties for Clear Type and see how it goes.I've read that the next version of Windows (Vista) will solve this problem by uncoupling resolution from dislay size.

Question: screen sizing

Windows XP SP2.
Where can I find how to resize my screen, as for some reason I have a margin down one side. It is a very small margin but I am finding it very irritating. The usual stretch will not remain when opening another window.
