I bought a netgear wireless router with modem build inside ,I tired to contact to internet via modem and configure the modem after calling the VERISON (the internet provider )to get thee information about the network the problem that I face was that the protocol for the modem that I was suppose to use was DHCP but the netgear configuration didnt contain any DHCP the only options that were available was PPP_OE and PPP_OAI need some help to configure the modem with the network .can anyone tell me how!

Answer:configuring a netgear modem..

What country are you in and is your broadband "Cable" or "DSL" via the phone line?In the UK, ADSL uses PPPoA protocol (PPP over Asynchronous Transfer Mode) but I believe DSL in the US and various other countries uses PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet). Setting the router to use DHCP would normally indicate that you're using a "Cable/DSL" router (no built-in Modem) connecting by ethernet cable to either a Cable Modem or an Ethernet DSL Modem. Verizon appears to be a US based provider and these forums are predominantly UK based, so broadband connectivity may be different.

I have today purchased two Netgear wireless USB adapters MA101 to network a Windows 98 and Windows XP home computer. The 98 computer installed perfectly but the XP home won't. Instead of the red computer icon I'm supposed to get, when I install the driver I just get a crossed out icon and the message wireless connection unavailable when I click on it. I have tried reinstalling and running the XP network wizard for the last four hours. Is this just an incompatabilty problem (the box says supports XP) and is this a trip to PCW! for a refund tomorrow? Help appreciated.(serves me right for buying the cheapest!)

Answer:Problem with netgear mA101 wireless modem on XP

You are not supposed to get a red icon, but a green one (from memory). I believe that they are both saying the same thing, i.e. that there is nothing else to talk to. Try setting them both to ad-hoc mode.

Spectrum increased my WiFi speed from 60 mbps to 100 mbps, however, my Netgear C3600 modem router will only give me 51 mbps, but when i hard wire it,with lan cable i get 118 mbps. When i called customer support for Netgear, they wanted to charge me $150 to help with this problem. When i went online to Netgear, there were many, many people emailing them with this same problem.

My laptop is a Asus with I7 technology, and it's using the latest Windows 10. I tried shutting down the Modem and rebooting the computer and not solving the problem.

hello all, very odd problem for you today;i have a friend whom has a virgin modem, and a supplied netgear router. i also have one of these, and was able to very easily get the thing working, obviously you just plug the modem connection into the dsl router and it works hey presto; i actually had to repeat this when the netgear router fried itself, no problems.however, at my friends house, we cannot get the thing to work. the netgear router displays that its got an internet connection (no tick for confirmation though), although we cannot connect to the internet, through wired or wireless.here is the wierd part, i can connect directly to the modem, and have internet. we have tried 3 routers, and 2 supplied modems, as virgin stupidly sent 2 by mistake when we made the order. i have also checked the configuration against my router, everything is exactly the same.router in question is netgear wireless-g router (wgr614 v9)i appreciate any help you can provide, and can provide more details if needed.thanks, james

Answer:virgin modem & netgear router(DSL routing problem)

If I understand correctly, the other 2 routers work fine. In that case I suggest that you take the router in question home and try it on yours to rule out wasting time on a useless brick if it is broken.

I'm having trouble installing a Netgear DG814 modem/router. My PC runs XP Home and I have a Broadband service in place.Following the manual, I was able to connect the LAN Network. I clicked on LAN Properties and was told to select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) > Properties. When I completed this and closed, an Internet Connection Wizard appeared. Following the choice windows, I came to 'Your Broadband connection should already be configured and ready to use'.The manual told me to start a browser. IE came up with'cannot find server' along the top bar, and 'page cannot be displayed' in the page. I typed in click here anywayand got a box requesting a DG814 username and password, which I provided. Another box came up, telling me, 'Sorry! Content adviser will not allow you to see this site' It asks for a Supervisor Password, which I don't have. I'm new to this, and have no idea what to do next. Any help appreciated.

Answer:Netgear DG814 modem/router installation problem

You must first setup the Router configuration by starting your browser and type in the IP address supplied by Netgear mine is under the Router, example click hereThis should then connect your browser to your router, you should be presented to supply the user name and password found in the manual or under the router. You must then go into setup and have ready all your ISP details, you may need to call them for this information.Good Luck

Hello

I have a NTL / Virgin Media Cable Modem, Model No: 351000, and i have recently borrowed a Netgear WGR614 version6 from a friend.

I am having problems with connecting everything and i would like to be guided in the right direction.

My Modem is connected to my PC via a USB cable, and also to my phone line.

I have tried the following setup: Connect a new ethernet cable into the spare port at the back of my NTl cable modem and plug that into the LAN Port at the back of the Netgear wireless router, then, connect another ethernet cable from the "internet" port at the back of the wireless router to the PC.

This setup has resulted in the wireless router's "internet" light being active, but the "wireless" light not being on, so, no wireless access point has been created.

I have tried everything possible with a D-Link DL524 wireless router before, to no avail and i would really like this to work as i really need Wi-Fi in my home.

Also, once, when i connected everything with the netgear one, i found the access point, but then my internet didn't work, and i still couldn't (and never have been able to) access the setup at 192.168.1.1 (i have also tried 192.168.0.1). However, i cannot remember the configuration i used.

Please Help.

Thank you for your time

Just got off the phone with Comcast. I thought for sure there was something going on with my modem, but after connecting the computer directly to the modem, I see there's a problem with the router.

I just did a boot/nuke wipe of my hard drive and reinstalled a fresh copy of windows 7 64bit, and it is completely up to date with all updates. Yesterday morning I started having issues (connections to websites were resetting/timing out). I tried to connect to the router but couldn't remember the login name, so I did a factory reset, logged in, updated the firmware, and set it up using the wizard. The IP is set up for dynamic, and the router MAC address is "Use Default Address". Everything was fine all day, and then late in the evening last night, I started having problems again ("Connection to server was reset" or whatever the exact wording is). This had primarily happened over the course of the last few days with 1 website (ffffound.com) but last evening, it happened with every site I tested. I tried last night powering everything off, restarting everything, but nothing worked. I disconnected the power from everything before bed, and this morning turned everything on (router>modem>computer) and still nothing. As noted, the connection is fine when directly through the modem.

I can't imagine the router just suddenly fried (lights work, but the one light that I believe indicates connectivity won't change from orange), so I am guessing ... Read more

I set this system up for someone a while back and it works fine.

Only issue I have is that every time he tries to access Google using any of 2 wireless laptops the Google page does not complete its loading sequence and effectively hangs. If you cable up the laptops rather than use wireless Google loads up fine.

This happens irrespective of whether the Netgear system is running OPEN or with security enabled (currently running WPA-PSK encryption).

Anyone seen this before and can offer a solution please?

Thanks

I have a specific problem with this router in that I caanot view certain web pages. Specifically BT and Inland Revenue. I can log in to both but cannot then get the next page i.e. self assessment. All other websites are ok. I have removed the router from the set up and replaced it with a basic ethernet hub and I can now access all pages.Using W XP, Madasafish ISP broadband, Voyager 210 modem. Wired connections, the wireless bit I only use occasionally for a laptop.Have I missed something in the setup of the router? The error message I get is that "IE cannot display the page"

Answer:Configuring a Netgear MR814 router

If you are experiencing problems with *secure* https pages, it could be an MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) issue. Check in the router's settings for an MTU value, which is normally 1500 by default, and try reducing it to 1492. If that doesn't help, try 1450. If that still doesn't work, the problem lies elsewhere.

Is it possible to just use an un-managed switch to connect to a comcast cable internet modem and create a home network or do I absolutely have to use a router?

I tried to plug in the static IP's on a couple computers going through a Netgear FS105 un-managed switch but I believe that it's necessary to put in the DNS suffix to make it work.

I found the DNS suffix setup in the advanced tab for TCIP settings but when I tried several different settings I got no success.

Say I want to have three computers connected to the same modem with different static IP's:
Comp1 192.168.1.101
Comp2 192.168.1.102
Comp3 192.168.1.103

I know how to get the computers to talk to each other so that's not the problem I'm having. It's just getting them to all see the internet together this way.

Here's Comcast's configuration settings with one computer on auto.

Hello - I don't know if this is the correct forum area for my question.

I am trying to configure a Netgear WNR3500 router to be used as an access point.

My AT&T U-Verse Gateway router is in the basement of my house and the WNR3500 is in my office on the second floor of my house. I am using the Netgear Knowledge Base article ID 19852 titled "Set Up a Wireless Router as an Access Point on a Network".

In Step 5 is says in Advanced tab Setup > LAN "In the IP Address field, change the LAN IP address of the router (WNR3500) to 192.168.1.100 (same IP segment of the main (AT&T) router (192.168.1.1) and uncheck the DHCP server box.

I did that and the wireless access point doesn't work.

The AT&T Gateway wireless router IP address is 192.168.1.254. I also tried changing the WNR3500 LAN IP address to 192.168.1.200 and the access point still doesn't work.

I think I am doing something wrong with the LAN IP address.

Can anyone help me configure the WNR3500? This seems so simple but I am stuck.

Thanks, Bill

I have purchased 2 identical Netgear WNR2000 v3 routers, in order to build an extended wifi network in a very spread out office.

I have the first one configured as 'base', with the mac address of the repeater input;
I have the 2nd one configured as 'repeater', with the mac address of the base input

I can access the internet just fine now from either netgear unit, if I connect via ethernet port.

However if I unplug the network cable and attempt to connect to either unit wirelessly, I do not get an IP address and I get no internet access.

What am I doing wrong? The whole idea here was to build a wider wireless network....

I just got a DSL line hooked up to my pc, however the modem (a Zyxel Prestige 645M-USP ADSL modem) I have isn't "communicating with the pc". I was told by the guy who installed it that there was a way to "go into it and configure it (the modem)" so that it would work. I know a bit about computers, but I have no idea what the heck he was talking about. He said that he didn't know how to do it either, he just installs them.

Anyways, does anybody know how do to this? I can still go online through the dial up connection, but I'm dying to get this DSL thing working. Btw, I get my DSL/internet through Twin Lakes here in Livingston, TN.

Also I have asked this question here, and they have suggested some things that were to no avail.

My old modem from centurylink went bad and they sent me a new one (from KGP Logistics 660 series). I now find out that they want to start charging me $4.95 a month to rent this item. I ask could I buy this item and they will not allow me to do so. I then ask if I could buy my own and use it. They said yes. MY thoughts them went back to my parents who had an old dial up phone for many years, and when they passed we figured they had paid over $1000 for an old phone that they could have bought for $25. Since I don't want to get caught up in this same type of situation and pay for an item many times over I want to buy my own.
I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this type of thing with Centurylink. For example will their will be any configuring that I will have to do. What would be a specific recommended replacement modem etc.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Answer:Configuring a modem

There is a list of compatable modems here............
http://qwest.centurylink.com/internethelp/modems.html
You would need to enter your user name and
password when you connect to the internet.
If you are using a router, then configuration should
be the same as it is using their modem.
If there is a problem, you would probably just need to
call support and give them the MAC address from the
label on the modem.

Got a problem I cannot seem to solve. I need to communicate with a wifi router that is not itself directly connected to the computer in order to change its channel to improve overall signal quality for the two Wi-Fi routers I have and deconflict with a neighbor's Wi-Fi. The router I need to adjust is connected to the internet through the cable router. It is not directly connected to the computer - thus the Genie program won't talk to it. If I do wire directly to that wi-fi, the internet connection is lost (no cable port to wire it up, unfortunately) and the Genie program won't let me do anything either. So I need to know how to adjust a Wi-Fi router that is acting merely as a wireless antennae to a different router, rather than a direct connection to the internet.

Ideas?

(Background info to save time)

I have a very long house with a lot of metal in it. The Cable drop for internet is in the basement at one end. The cable router has a built in Wi-Fi serving half the house, to which I have (via a LONG cord) connected a second (NetGear) wifi router. Until recently, these have worked fine for the limited internet surfing we've done. This was necessitated by not having good signal at either end of the house if Wi-Fi was in the middle, or no signal at one end if Wi-Fi was left at one end of the house or the other. Thus, two Wi-Fi's.

However - my son is now of an age he wants to play FPS games on the laptop; meaning he needs good ping. ... Read more

ok i know that i need to set both my router and cable modem to accept incoming pings through ports 4662 and 4672. Ive accessed my router's settings by inputing its ip address in the mozilla address bar, heres my problem whenever i input the ports into the firewall>virtual servers and select tcp for port 4662 and udp for port 4672 and click enable and then apply settings it WONT save the frigging settings however i can turn the routers firewall off entirely. Second how the hell do i do this with my modem i have no idea how to find its ip address because ipconfig only tells me my router ip...anyway as you can probably tell im completely lost

Answer:configuring router and modem for emule

Although I had some trouble getting the USB fax modem installed when I ran the drivers supplied with it, Device Manager revealed the modem model number, and that allowed me to search for drivers on the Net, resulting in Device Manager showing the modem and as non-problematical. Using the method outlined at Set up your Windows 7 computer to send and receive faxes, I can get only as far as the fax-set-up Window, because the mouse turns into an hour-glass after selecting 'fax modem' and clicking on NEXT; and when I abandon the attempt, an error window tells me : "MS Windows Fax & Scan is not responding". During this attempt, I had the fax connected as another phone i.e. on a filtered line. Can anyone help me make progress with this ?

My ISP just installed an Ubee DDW3611 combined DOCIS 3.0 cable modem and router. I'm not liking the built-in router so much so I'd like to use my old one. The problem is I've never done something like this before and my knowledge of routers/gateways is limited to begin with.

Here are some questions I have:

How should I set up everything? I cannot connect my old router via the WAN port anymore I presume?

What settings would I need? (Would I need port forwarding? What would I do with the DHCP server setting?)

There is no direct option to disable the firewall. Could I set my old router as the DMZ and have it serve as the firewall? I don't want to have to manage two.

There are some settings I am unsure of like:
Gateway- Passthrough (allows me to input a MAC address)
WAN Blocking
IPsec/PPTP Passthrough
DNS Relay

Any of those settings related?

I'd very much appreciate any help. I feel like stumbling through the dark here. I'm just about tempted to call the cable company back and ask them if they have another modem... or just buy my own.

Answer:Help! Configuring a combined cable modem & router

What happens if you enter the MAC of your own routers WAN/Internet interface into the "gateway-passthrough" option? Powercycle often required for your own router to then pickup a public IP. That sounds similar to the DMZ plus like mode of the ATT U-Verse combo units.

Hello to the incredibly helpful people who may be reading my post!

I have:

1 X Netgear ADSL2+ Modem DM111P
1 X 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Cable/DSL Gateway WL-525

I have used the wireless device previously with an Alcatel ADSL Speed Touch Modem using PPPOE no problem. Now I have the Netgear modem and i'm stuck with PPPOA.

Internet solely through the Netgear modem and my laptop works fine. Now I want to plug the 3Com wireless router into the Netgear modem but it's not working.

I plug the cables in all ok. So that the Netgear ethernet port plugs into the 3Com Ethernet/Cable/DSL port and I connect wirelessly or cabely to the 3Com.

I'm forced to use PPPOA bridged to connect and I can see that the 3Com is allocated a public IP address from my ISP. So i'm wondering why I can't surf the net!?

So to be clear, I can see/access the 3Com from my laptop, the laptop is getting an IP address through the modem using PPPOA bridged, but its not routing through.

I've tried manually configuring DNS on my laptop, but no luck.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be most interested in reading them!

cheers,
Ivan.

My laptop dial up built in modem make is 'HD AUDIO SOFT DATA FAX MODEM with smart ICP'. I tried to configure in different Linux OS like Fedora core1, RedHat Linux Enterprise 4.0, Ubuntu 6.06 and now Kubuntu. When I query the modem it always shows the modem is busy. How to overcome this and make the modem work?

Answer:Configuring the dial up built in modem of my laptop in Ubuntu 6.06

your modem is not really a modem, as you stated it is a soft modem. If you are lucky, the manufacturer has released the code which will allow you to control it within linux. Many problems with the soft modems is that the manufacturers only release the code to control it for windows, leaving everything else without an option on how to control it/use it. Basically these modems are controlled by software and use the resources of the computer rather than hardware on the modem itself. Want more info, try reading the wiki on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winmodem

If windows is installed on this laptop, boot into and check out the details of the device (make/model) if not try the laptops makers site and see what they list, this will at least give you a starting point for what you should be looking for.

I have a cisco 1941 ISR router and I am trying to configure a router to allow a modem for “Offband or Out of band” access.

Below is the configuration on Aux port on Line :

line aux 0
login local
modem InOut
transport input all
speed 115200
flowcontrol hardware

I have US Robotics 56k Faxmodem which is connected to aux port of router and I am using USB dialup modem with my laptop to dailin to the router which is connected to a US Robotics Faxmodem. Then I have accessed my USB dialup modem throught HyperTerminal and I can issue all “at” commands and to dialin to the modem I have used the following command
atdt914011111111 (atdt followed by country code, area code and landline number)

Once I issue the above command it give me message “Connected” and after this I just get a flashing cursor. I cannot do anything nor will it display a username login prompt.

Answer:Configuring Dialin connectivity using a modem on router aux port

Sorry. Can't provide any help here on using the Aux port of the ISR. I know it can be done as I've heard others have done it. On deployments I've done, we used a Raritan console server which has a built in modem for POTS line OOB connectivity. The nice thing is the Raritans are simple to configure and have a proven track record. In addition, you can get various models that support multiple devices from serial/console type access to KVM.

I recently had my phone line disconnected to cut costs but would occasionally like to send/receive faxes. Spoke to Comcast and they said it was possible but that I would have to change some settings on my computer and on my fax machine. What are these settings? My Comcast modem has 2 phone jacks labeled TEL 1/2 and TEL 2. Which of these jacks should the fax machine be connected too? Thanks in advance!

I got a problem that I seem to be stuck on. I have an ADSL modem that uses PPPoE (ZyXEL Prestige 623ME, but I don't expect anyone to know anything about it, cuz it's hard to find info on it), but the way it's set up is it does all the PPPoE for me and even has a built in firewall and all, DHCP server and NAT and everything. I don't really wanna use this firewall cuz I'm gonna use a wireless Router (Linksys WRT54G), but it seems when I turn the firewall shit off on the modem it stops working. So it seems I have to set up my router to work its firewall behind this modem, which is where my question is. I can't seem to be able to get it to work, it worked for a bit but not anymore. When it worked I was just messing around with all the settigns I could think of, like making it act as "router" instead of "gateway", letting it do dynamic routing, then turning that off, and somehow it worked for a bit, then it stopped working, Honestly I didn't really know what I has to set things to, just trying shit. Then it stopped working and I had to reset the router. I tried it again this morning with no luck, basically my router gets an IP from the modem's DHCP, but that's doesn't do anything. If I just connect a Windows XP comp directly, it works okay. Anyone know of a guide that could help me with this, or know how to set this up? Ideally if someone out there knows how to skip past the modem's firewall that would be s... Read more

Answer:Linksys router behind firewalled modem, trouble configuring

Call your ISP, find out what your modem's IP is (something like 192.168.1.254 or thereabouts), type in http://yourmodem'sIP in Internet Explorer and hit enter, then there should be a configuration page. Try enabling "IP Passthrough" or something like that, that should forward all requests to your router, effectively disabling your Modem's NAT. That's what I had to do. If you've already tried this and no dice, sorry...

ok right to it: I have a 3g usb modem that i use to connect to the internet. That connection is shared to my wlan connection that connects to my ddwrt router which is used for home networking and internet sharing.. It would look something like this:

INTERNET <3G> PC <WiFi> ROUTER <WiFi> OTHER DEVICES

My problem is that i have trouble accessing the admin area of my router at 192.168.1.1 when my 3g internet is connected or accesing the internet when i can access the admin area ( depending which connection is on top of the list in advanced network settings -> adapter and bindings). What do you think would be the easiest way to solve this and to setup 3g internet sharing most efficiently?

My PC is the one in specs running windows 8 pro, the usb 3g modem is huawei e353, router gigaset sx763 running ddwrt.

Hi,

I have a Fiber Optic connection at home, where the Fiber Optic modem is connected to my WiFi router. The problem is that in order to connect to the Internet, I have to first connect to the WiFi (WPA2) and then dial-in via PPPoE into the Internet. I provide the ISP username and password in the second step.

I am using Windows 7, and have created the PPPoE connection as shown in the attached screenshots.

I have to connect to this PPPoE every time I need to connect to the Internet. I have had to configure this on all my laptops, and have to connect using each individual machine where I need an Internet connection. This is a big pain, as you can imagine. Further, I want to connect my Nexus One to the home WiFi Internet connection, but since it doesn't have PPPoE support, I can't do this.

I went to my router settings (3Com 3CRWDR200A-75), and found something that seemed promising. In the Internet Settings section, I saw a place to provide the PPPoE username and password.

However, this hasn't helped. I still have to connect using the PPPoE connection in Windows

Does anybody have any ideas/tips? Any help would be appreciated, as this is getting frustrating.

Cheers,
Wild Thing

Answer:Configuring PPPoE on my WiFi router instead of my Fiber Optic modem

If you are providing the necessary login information in the modem, then you do not need to choose pppoe in windows, just choose the other option it gives you (wireless, according to your screenshot)

Since you're connecting from the router you can probably delete the PPOE connection from Windows.

Where can I obtain this driver?

Router should not need a driver, it's simply broadcasting a signal to any device. It sounds like you need a network card driver for your computer or am I missing something?

Just recently got a new wireless set-up after I put my new computer together, and now have it in my house to where the netgear modem is wired to my new computer with a wireless card in the old one.

Anyways, the internet seems to run great, and the only issue is with online games. It seems that for whatever reason my ping is much higher on online games. This has stopped me from being able to play in lots of my favorite servers. Now what I used to do with my old setup if I ever saw abnormally high ping was change my IP (using ipconfig/release, renew) and restart the computer. The ping would be back to normal afterwards. I have tried said method with the netgear modem and it still doesn't change the IP.

So what I was wondering is how do I go about changing the IP to this new Netgear modem? Is there some other problem that's causing abnormally high pings?

Thanks.

Answer:Change LAN IP on Netgear Modem

hum; your solution (reset or release/renew on the lan side) is not related to your
ping rates. Yea, the old system behaved interestingly, but that was circumstantial.

First thing would be to update the firmware in the router using the Netgear site.
The LAN ip address will always be the lowest available address, unless you use
MAC address mapping to force an association of mac->ip OR
use static addresses.

I would guess that your ISP is using a QoS service and throttling speeds as in
this topic http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic108562.html

So I had my brand new netgear router modem hooked up, I could never get connection to the internet, i have been on the phone with netgear techsupport for like 6 hours total, and i have been on the phone with my internet provider for couple hours, and it still doesnt work.

I used the setup wizard of the netgear to get the ip address, but it would never show up, so talk to the techs at netgear they said i need a id and password to sign on, cause dsl usually needs a username and password, so i call up tech support of my internet provider asking for it, and they said doesnt have, so then tried other things with netgear, nothing worked,

in the netgear manuall it says dat ip address wit the numbers 192.186.-.- is a private ip address and needs to sign up with certain site to get a ip address, but when i asked the netgear tech support he said that it doesnt matter,

the info i got
dynamic ip address
ep
bridged
cant obtain ip address

Please if you have any info about this pls let me know im on my 3rd weekend of tryin to set it up and im running out of days to return it, thank you

Answer:Can i use my netgear router as just a dsl modem?

Assuming that the Netgear DG834 isn't a Sky router and locked to the Sky service, then "Yes" you could daisy-chain the DG834 and the D-Link routers, although I'm not sure what you would hope to achieve. Set the DG834 up in the usual way to connect to the internet and then connect the D-Link's WAN port to one of the DG834's LAN ports. Where the D-Link would normally get its WAN IP address from the ISP, it will now get a 192.168.0.x WAN address allocated by the DG834. It is *IMPORTANT* that the D-Link router doesn't also operate in the 192.168.0.0 Subnet so, if its own IP address is 192.168.0.1 this will need to be changed to something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 so that it allocates addresses to connected computers in a different range from the DG834.If the connected computers are to be networked for File & Printer Sharing, they will all need to connect to the D-Link Router, otherwise they will have addresses in different Subnets and the Subnet Mask prevents them from communicating.

Hope this is the correct section to ask this!, however my query concerns accessing my Netgear DG834 modem / router to check if I have entered the correct login / password etc.

Since setting up the modem I have been unable to connect to my service provider on the internet, its getting to the point that I am beginning to suspect that when I originally set up the modem a few days ago I have made a mistake somewhere, my problem is that I cannot find whereabouts on the PC that the back up info was stored at the time the modem was set up, (PC search facility cant find it either) so I want to know if there is any way I can gain access to the modem for purposes of checking / possibly altering the info.

I realise that there is a reset button on the back of the modem, but I cant check the info I entered from that.

(This modem has 192.168.0.1 as its IP address)

I'm not even going to pretend I am knowledgable of modems and routers so please bear w/ me here. I just got a refurbished NetGear DGND3300 modem/router. The install went fine w/ only a few hiccups. Today the page that you access all your router settings prompted me to update it....so I did. Now the DGND3300 does not work. It says I need to re-load the CD that was supposed to come w/ it. Since it was refurbished I did not get a CD only a piece of paper telling me to log onto netgear.com for it. I have searched and searched the site and cannot find any download of this CD. Untill I can correct this my new modem/router is completely useless. Thank God I kept my old modem (which is how I'm submitting this).

Anyone have any insight as to how I can correct this problem? TIA.

I have Windows 7 64 bit.

I bought a Netgear DGN2000 approximately two years ago. It is working well.

Currently, there is good connectivity between my laptop and the modem/router (wired and wireless).

I worked on my desktop this morning, uninstalled some programmes, but must have uninstalled a driver or something.

I inserted the Resource CD, which installs the modem (although it is installed). Then it stalls at some point.

If I troubleshoot, it states ?Windows do not detect a properly installed network adaptor?.

Any help please

Answer:Desktop does not connect to Netgear modem

hi avz10,

you most likly need to remove the rest of the drivers that are still installed on the system and re-install them again. right click computer go to properties, on the top left corner select device manager uninstall the modem driver from their and then re-install it from the resource CD.

hope this helps

Cheers !!

I posted some time ago my problems setting up what may have been a faulty Netgear 834 router. Since then I have not purchased anything else.I am quite confused as to what to buy. I am looking for a decent range as I wish to site the router on the ground floor and the computers that will access the signal will be on the first floor and one some 10m away on the first floor. I also wold like easy setup and preferably a free helpline!Having read various reports I am homing in on a Netgear Rangemax but what should I go for - Rangemax WPN824 MIMO G, DG834N Rangemax NEXT, etc? Any others?Any suggestions or better ideas?

Answer:Netgear Wireless Modem Router

Can I also throw in the Netgear 834PN to the equation. Do any of these have an advantage over another from this selection or other company?

Yesterday, before I changed from LOUSY Verizon internet thru the phone lines to Comcast Cable internet, my Netgear wired/wireless router worked fine. Now I have a new Motorola cable modem that is getting a far better signal and much faster, yet the router doesn't want to work, it can't see the cable signal and the only internet I get is being directly plugged into the cable modem.

I called comcast, I don't need to specify anything on the router as far as login/password etc. Netgear refuses to speak with me because my router is older than ninety days. I sent an email, "to be answered in two business days"... argh!!!!

I tried resetting, restarting and still router won't work.
Suggestions, please,
Ilene

I have installed DG632 using the ethernet connection and was looking to connect my laptop using the USB port.I spent 2 evenings talking to their techies trying to get it to work with the laptop. In the end I gave up and am still using it with my desktop and lan.I e-mailed Netgear who then told me I can`t connect my laptop to the USB port and that I must set it up for the desktop to use USB and the laptop to use the Lan.Why doesn`t it work either way.Can I connect a wireless router to it and put a PMCIA card in the laptop.

Answer:Netgear DG632 modem router

You may need to install some software with the PCMIA card, if not done already.

I had this problem once... I want you to do this for me... Turn off your computer(s), and then unplug the power cord from the modem... Leave it unplugged for about 30 seconds or more... Next, restore power back to the modem, and let it just sit there for about one mnute... next, power back on your computer(s)... Does this help?[glb]Flame[/glb]

Hi there,
Following the failure of my very old Webstar Modem, i'm about to install the above new wireless router (VMDG 280)
My current set up is this:
Virgin cable connected Webstar modem which is upstairs(broadband cable comes in from the loft). Webstar modem is then connected to my Belkin Wireless Pre-N Router F5D8230-4. My Desktop and printer is wired to the Belkin, my Laptop which is generally used downstairs is connected wirelessly to Belkin. I also have an Xbox downstairs that is wired via a Lea branded 200mbps netplug through to the Belkin upstairs.
My first question is this: Is the new Netgear modem/routers wireless capabilities any better than my Belkin?
My second question is will my new intended setup work:
My intended new set up is this:
Replace my old Webstar modem with the new Netgear, keeping it upstairs. Relocate the Belkin downstairs and connect it to the Netgear via the netplug (giving me a 4 port router so i can also connect the PS3 wired).
Then depending on the answer to my first question, i will either use the Belkin as the wireless connection to my network or the Netgear.
Any help or advice on setting up the best network would be great.
Thanks in advance
LargeJD

Answer:New Virginmedia Netgear Modem/Router

If you're happy with the performance of your Belkin router then you can plug it into the new Modem/Router's LAN port and continue to connect through it. Locate it wherever you want. One problem though, computers connected to the different routers will be in different Subnets (IP address ranges) and therefore unable to communicate for "File & Printer Sharing", if that is a requirement.

I have Charter cable Internet service. I recently called Charter because the service was dragging and many times unable to connect. They stated I was paying for 30mbps but my Motorola Surfboard modem was only capable of 15mbps. I decided to purchase a new modem of course the only one in stock at Best Buy was the $159.00 Motorola Surfboard Extreme Wireless Cable Modem Gateway. Now I also have a separate Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR3400 as well.

When I refresh my Internet access I now have both Netgear and Motorola as wireless connections. My question is which one do I connect with and also, do I need both of these items Motorola modem and Netgear router? I find that when using the Netgear connection the Internet seems to be a little bit faster than if I use the Motorola connection. I'm just really confused about whether I need both of these items and if I have them set up correctly. I called charter and my MAC Id is set up for the Motorola modem. Please help if you can, thanks.

Answer:Motorola modem and Netgear Router

You have a modem/wireless router. There is no reason to add another wireless router unless, well, unless you have a reason to do so. And, "a reason to do so" means experiencing some issue with the Motorola that can be improved/solved by adding more equipment.

hello,Came across the site and did a search in the forum but couldn't find exactly the answer so...I have just bought a Netgear WGT624 wireless router to use with my BT bb, for which I have a USB modem, a an Alcatel Speedtouch USB. after looking I now realise that my router may not work with the USB modem(?) but is there an alternative apart from changing the router / getting another modem? Is there a cable that has Ethernet to telephone plug? I wonder if there is maybe that would work, but at the moment the only thing that goes into the back of the computer is the USB plug on the modem. The telephone wire goes into a socket half way down the modem cable. Naturally I haven't had any luck getting the router to work.thanksGary

Answer:netgear wireless router to USB modem

I assume you have ADSL and not cable? The Netgear WGT624 has not got an ADSL modem built into it so you will need to get either a router with a built in ASDL modem or you could just get an Ethernet modem to plug into the Netgear WGT624.I would suggest you get a router with built in modem, its the easiest option!.

Answer:Desktop does not connect to Netgear modem

There's a couple of things you can try.

First, would be a System Restore to a point a day or 2 ago before your "work" this morning.
Second, you could go into Device Manager and uninstall the network adapter and reboot to see if the drivers are installed correctly. (Right click adapter and choose Uninstall. Keep the current driver software at this point.)

If neither of these works, you could use your laptop to go to the desktop adapter's support page and download a new driver file. Transfer the file to the desktop and install the new driver after deleting the current driver file.

WHich would be better for me..?

I have a speedtouch 330 modem as provided by orange ISP
for my supposed 8mb connecting.
Would I be better off with a router such as a netgear or similar?
Would the ethernet connection give me better speed and reliability?

Is it hard to set up?

Thanks all.

Really stuck on this one.

Answer:Speedtouch modem or Netgear router?

HI

I use a Wireless 4 port Netgear router ( Netgear D834G )with Orange and have done since they were Freeserver/Wanadoo, with no problems at all, they are VERY easy to setup. I do personally like Netgear products but Linksys are also good.

Yes ethernet will give you better stability and you loose the flakyness of the USB drivers, especially with Vista.

When I can connect my Netgear wireless router, the phones in my house wont work, I have 2 telephones, both on filters, wont work at all, I have tried in both sockets and also tried unplugging 1 phone and still no Joy. I am with orange broadband, even if modem not on phones still wont work!!!! HELP

Answer:When I connect my Netgear Asdl modem

Simplify the entire phone wiring in your house to an absolute minimum. Even sockets with no phones plugged in can cause problems with your ADSL, so disconnect them if you can. Test your router/modem with your pc on the first socket in your house (where the phone line comes into your dwelling) do this with all phones and internal wiring disconnected. (To disconnect internal wiring to test, remove the lower half of the NTE (bt main socket) and plug in on the test socket in behind) this puts you on the end of the BT network. If you can get a connection at the test socket but nowhere else on your internal wiring, you have a problem with that wiring. The number of people I have visited that tell me 'I have no problems with my wiring' only for me to see trapped wiring under doors, carpets and other high traffic areas, wires that have been stretched to hell to reach pc's/router/phones. Damp sockets, damaged internal wiring, ancient phones, incorrectly plugged in wiring/old modem cables/modem cables plugged into network ports in routers. All these add up to YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.CHECK, CHECK and CHECK again for all of these problems. Any of these issues can and will cause you to have broadband problems.

Hi,
Thanks so much for any help.

At the moment I have a Dell 8200 series desk top computer running windows XP my isp is Optimum Online. I have a netgear router that I want to hook up to my DSL modem so that my dell wireless laptop also using windows XP can have access to get online. I dont want to share files or anything I just want the wireless signle so the laptop can access the internet.

My main question is. In the set up directions it says to disconnect the Ethernet cable from my computer to the cable or DSL modem. So Ok there does not seem to be a Ethernet cable hooked to my computer to disconnect. My DSL box is hooked to the computer by way of a usb cable.

There is a place on the DSL modem that is for an Ethernet cable, at the moment this space is empty. So not really sure where to go from here. I did call Netgear twice but I had a very hard time understanding what the tech was telling me so I was hoping someone here maybe able to give me some clues as what I should do.

Thanks Again,
Jill

Answer:Hooking up Netgear Router to DSL Modem?

Power down all devices, computers, router and cable modem.

Remove the USB cable from your computer to the cable modem. You wont need this.

Install an ethernet cable from router WAN port to the ethernet port on the cable modem.

Install an ethernet cable from your computer to port 1 of the router.

After all is hooked up. In this order.....power up the cable modem and wait 35 seconds, power up the router and wait 35 seconds, then power up the pc.

After your wired connections are working, power on the laptop and see if you can connect.

After this is done you will have to tweek the router to set up some kind of wireless security.

I unplugged everything during a storm, even the cable line. After I plugged everything back in the pc link light wouldn't come on on the modem. Cable tech support said modem is working, can get online when I plug the computer ethernet directly into modem. Netgear tech support said router is working. I am on a wired system as you can tell running windows xp. I reset my ip address and have unplugged both several times and left unplugged for several minutes. As far as reconfiguring via Netgear instructions I can only find instructions for wireless, not wired.
