Preferred Solution: please help me recover my data

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I own a DELL INSPIRON 15 and I recently experienced a problem with desktop error in my operating system Windows Vista Premium 64bit. I tried to use System Restore but it didn't work. Dell offers a program called Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 to restore the laptop to it's original factory state. I backed up my files into a folder called Emergency, located on drive C, then I did the formatting. I checked and my files were there, I restored them, but when I restarted the laptop, the same desktop error appeared. So I foolishly did the formatting again, I did it because Dell DataSafe program assured the files that were in the Emergency folder were not going to be deleted. So I did it, and when I went to the Emergency folder everything was gone. I checked the disk space and there was more space available. So I tried to do a System Restore again to go back before I did the 2nd formatting, and now it is stucked again and Vista won't start. So I suppose I have to do a formatting again, but now I don't know how can I recover my files. Is there a way? Please help!

After splitting C: drive into two partitions by disk management tool, i am facing following problems:
1. Start up/boot problem (Windows 7 not started)
2. one old partition is hidden

i made many different attempt to solve the issue but failed.

in my last attempt, i install new windows 7 at new partition
this time my old partition has gone to hide but it is viewable only in disk management tool; it is not active here

kindly help me to recover my old data which is placed at old partition.

thanking you in anticipation

Answer:want help to recover data

Did you (1) try unhiding the partition using Disk Management, or (2) assigning it a drive letter using Disk Management?

If both of these fail, you will need to use a data recovery app to get your data back. Is that what you are asking to do?

I was installing windows 8-32 bit- On my Laptop which I had downloaded with torrent. During the installation after I had formatted the desired drive when I selected the drive to have the windows on an error popped up which told me that " We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one". After I'd googled about it I Found a solution which should be enforced in the command prompt to clear the disk, but I accidently cleared the whole SSD. Now on the windows I have only one drive and all my private files which was stored on it is gone.
What I need you guys to help me with is : 1- How can I Transmute this partition to several ones and have two drives again ??
2-Is there any chance to recover my files?
I should mention that I've used a tool named "Easeus Data Recovery" which recovered more than 1TB of file which was on my laptop for long time ago But it couldn't find the files in the other drive.
I'm a newbie in this case so please help me out. Those file were important to me.
I appreciate your answers ,Thank You :) .

Question: Recover data

I have a dell inspiron 6000 with windows XP PRO (NTFS) installed and the computer hangs up during boot up. The hard drive seems to be corrupt. I read some of the sticky threads out here and the best option seems is to try and run the Maxtor Powerblast. However I fear losing some important data in my D and E drives on the harddisk. Is there any way I can boot into DOS copy some important data over to my external hardrive (connected through firewire) and then try this utility up. I tried Recovery console but I get an access is denied on most of the dos commands. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Recover data

The absolute safest option is to remove the HardDrive and using a notebook to PC connector (they're usually about $1 on ebay) plug it into a Desktop computer as "Slave" (ie where the CD/DVD usually goes) and backup (using just explorer) from there.

A Linux live CD is an excellent way of recovering lost files, providing you have some idea where to look. Any Linux distro will do it but I find Puppy Linux the smallest and easiest to use.

Okay, A few months ago I had a major shut down on my previous Laptop, it turned to mush, it slowly got worse and worse and the monitor went, blue screened about 5 times an hour and was just overused, in fairness I got it second hand and it was already 3 years old, but they had it fixed up before giving it to me, new pieces inside the computer, extra ram and settings, etc etc.

Anyway I've given up on getting it fixed at this point in time.

I do have a couple things on there, saved to the Desktop and other Folders such as Pictures n Such and other things I needed for work, I managed to remake most of it, and then silly me only had them on a USB I'd been using about a month and it stopped working, plug it into the computer and Nada, the Charger Port is even gone and I can't get it turned on for a minute, if I move the laptop even an inch the screen shows sections of rectangles all along it in funky colors until it just comes up black, dark black as if the computer's off.

So here's my question finally, is there a way for me to get my files from that computer and hook it up to my new one as like a storage device so I can get my stuff off of it? and hopefully not any viruses <.<"

Oh and as a side question, Is there any way to get my files off my USB that just stopped working, as I lost about 70% of my work[Again], I don't need it urgently or anything, it would just be nice to have it all back.

Answer:Can I recover my data?

If a USB stick stops working, it's pretty much bye-bye. There are of course some things you can do, but I'm not going to bother explaining them as I don't believe it will help you.

As for your laptop hard drive: the question is, is it SATA? This is the power/data connectors on the harddrive.

It could be as simple as pulling out the HDD, and plugging it into another desktop computer. Or, into a USB HDD dock.

I can see on the back of the disc that data has been burnt to it. I've also verified that the DVD drive is working correctly. I think possibly that the session wasn't closed properly????
Can somone pls recommend a "free" software that will allow me to recover the data off of the DVD +R disc.

At last i tried to repair it through its installation cd. but it was not repaired. then i installed fresh copy of microsoft windows vista, which is working properly.
But whenever i start my system two operating systems appear on the screen and i have to slect microsoft windows vista if i select windows vista recovery it does not start.
Now tell me can i recover my data and how will my system start in a proper way without showing two operating whenever i start.

Answer:Can I recover my data?

Hello Mehrajhabibmir, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It depends on how you installed the fresh copy of Vista on whether you may be able to recover your data. Did you install it on the same partition as your previous Vista installation, or did you install it on a new partition or drive instead?

You can use the tutorial below to remove the Windows Vista Recovery entry.

I recently installed win xp-3. All went well until one day when I tried to open the drive D, it popped up "This disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you want to format now?" I store all photographs, Important documents, emails, etc.

I have not formatted the disk..

I had really very important data on that drive and I want it to recover/backup. I tried all the means.. I did some search on net, tried different kinds of data recovery software, but nothing worked out. please.. please.. help me recover my data..

I tried data recovery wizard program, which they said will recover raw partitions... but it failed.
I tried recover my files.. which also failed.
I tried testdisk, which failed. and many others.. but of no avail

In disk management, it shows Disk is healthy and it showing as:
Layout: partition
Type: Basic
File system: (showing nothing... it is blank... other drives showing NTFS)
Status: Healthy
capacity: 192.32
Free Space: 192.32
%free: 100%
fault tolerance: NO
overhead 0%

My hdd is Seagate Barracuda 7200.12, 500 GB, Partition on D is 200 GB. Gegabyte motherboard

I will be very thankful somebody help me out......

If i am posting it in wrong forum or wrong way please change...

Answer:how to recover my raw data?

<<...tried different kinds of data recovery software...>>

<<I tried data recovery wizard program, which they said will recover raw partitions... but it failed. I tried recover my files.. which also failed.

Well...there is no guarantee that any data-recovery program will be successful...as you have discovered.

The best program I have used costs and can be found at GetDataBack - Data Recovery Software - http://runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm , but that doesn't mean that it will do the job for you.

I am getting error on ex hd .

[drive] is not acceptable the disk structure is comupted and unreasonable

How to Recover Data?

Answer:How to Recover Data

Hi carlo67

not acceptable usually has some issues with the MBR...it can be repaired sometimes, but to recovery data first is more safer, after the data is back you can then choose to repaire or format or whatever. I myself use the Easeus backup software which is great, but noticed that they have recently got a beta version of the Data Recovery software, it seems simple yet efficient, you could also try just click out and download there, but the first thing after you recover the data, make sure you do backup regularily, also Macrium is a fine backup freebie, it's the safe way and much more easier when there is anything.

Answer:How to recover data from my pc ?

What 'volume' ?
Please give all the details of what you did to delete the 'volume'
Simplest way would to be to look in the Recycle bin for deleted folders and files, however you state it is a 'volume' so please say what you mean by that.
Also do not start multiple threads for the same problem, type your reply in the box at the bottom of this thread and then click on 'Post'

I have been storing images from my digital camera (fuji finepix 2600z)since i got it last year.I was using adaptec software. I recently upgraded my computer and changed from W'98 to W'2000,my writer for a samsung (initially using sony writer)together with nero burning software. I transfered some new images onto my cd-r recently.I can now only find these new images on the cd.All of the older images appear to have gone from the disc, however when checking the disc in my computer I am informed that the cd has 649Mb and all 649Mb are used with the 24 images I recently put onto the cd.Yet the total size of all 24 images is only around 17Mb.I also am informed that these are stored/read on a UDF file system. When I checked the same cd on another computer running W'98 and adaptec software, the my computer facility informed me that the cd had 703Mb,of which 155Mb was used and 547Mb were free, and these were stored/read using CDUDF system. However I could still only access the last 24 images burnt onto the cd which account for only 17Mb of data. How can I gain access to all of the images stored onto my cd as this is the only record I have of these images, after upgrading my computer system. Thanks in anticipation to anybody out there who can sort this for me.

Answer:recover data from cd-r

Use "Scandisk" in the tools option of Adaptec to scan the disk. If the files are recoverable it will give you the option to do so. You may lose the last images you stored before the OS upgrade.

Hello and thanks for reading, A few days ago I asked a question about recovering my data from a broken Raid0 array but had no solutions suggested. I've muddled my way through to the point where win7 can now see my array as a single stripped disk set in Disk Management. However it's showing as RAW. Now I haven't reformatted the drives as my understanding is that this will cause me to lose all my data. So my question is really how to proceed? Is there a way to mount the drives without reformatting them and then attempt to recover the data that is still (hopefully) on them?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Want to Recover Data

1st Option: Remove hard drive and install as secondary drive on seperate machine, try to copy files across. If 2nd drive not allowing to read try....
2nd Option:Go to any 'shareware' 'freeware' site and download PC Inspector File Recovery, install on working drive again run check on drive and see if files are picked up.
3rd Option: Take to data recovery experts and pay $$$$$$$ Huge amounts, if spindles are damaged i.e. hard drive dead there is no other options i'm afraid, sorry.

Question: Recover Data

Hello,

I am running a Windows XP system and have a need to find the deletion date of some data on my HDD (NTFS journaled). The trick is I do not know what the data is, I do know the date. Windows seems to record the creation date, modification dates, but does not make a obvious record for deletion dates. What I want to find out is how to use my NTFS USN journal to tell me what HDD changes were made but I do not know how to read the hex data "fsinfo usn enumdata" spits out. Ideally I would export the whole thing into a file and look for info there but I do not know how to do that either and that would be a huge file. Nevertheless I will make a 250 MB file if I have to because it is vital I find this information.

Thanks in advance.

I would just assume reformat the drive aqnd do a fresh install but there are a bunch of pictures on there I wanna get first. I am wondering if I can hook up the problematic drive to my other pc which is just fine running XP pro SP2 as a slave and be able to look through the files and copy them to me good computer to burn them on dvd so I won't run into this again. WINDOWS XP BTW.

Answer:Possible to recover data?

Is it POSSIBLE yes. Is it EASY? NO. Except for the quick format, which just formats the file allocation table (or whatever it is called in NTFS).

THis is why people have devised programs like DBAN.

vishwanath23, there're a number of 'recover' proggies around. An item isn't actually erased from a drive. All that actually happens is that the space it occupied in memory is marked as available for use and nothing is actually changed until the data is overwritten. So long as you haven't saved anything, you should be fine and even if you've overwritten the memory area, you may be able to recover part of your data. Try any/all these with crossed fingers.recover files - http://www.mywebattack.com/gnomeapp...recover files - http://www.winxpnews.com/rd/rd.cfm?...recover files - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restor... recover filles - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pcinsp...recover files - http://www.piriform.com/recuvaHTHEd in Texas

I have an interesting situation. I have an old business computer that is running DOS on an IBM PS/2 Model 80 (20 years old). I need to get the data off of it! I'd like to just suck all the info off of the drive on to a new machine...I can take it from there. The problem is there is now way to get info off the system that I can think of. The Hard Drive is not IDE...it is the old IMB Microchannel system. The microchannel Floppy drive is bad. No network card. No Modem. Thought of a Lap Link cable transfer, but I have no way to load the software onto the dos machine to enable that. Any one have a work around?

Answer:Please Help! Need to recover data

Welcome to TSG! Sorry to hear of your difficulties.

The #1 thing to do in this scenario is to avoid touching the hard drive on the computer where the files are lost. Chances are they are still there, in a way.

Download the Ultimate Boot CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html. You can burn the ISO file to a CD with ISO burning software like FreeISOBurner: http://www.freeisoburner.com. There are also ways to put the UBCD onto a USB drive.

You will want to have a USB flash drive or external hard drive big enough to hold your recovered files. You'll use a program called TestDisk to see if we can find the old partition.

You don't need to download it from here, but this documentation will be helpful in using TestDisk:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

Good luck!

As a side note I should say it is ideal to backup your files to some medium other than your hard disk. CDs, DVDs, and external hard drives are best. Then, should anything happen to your computer's hard drive you don't have to tread quite so carefully to get your system up and running.

Question: recover data

I had to format my C drive and there were files on there that I wanted but forgot to copy them. Is there a way to retrieve them because system restore won't work after you install XP again

Answer:recover data

Once you have formatted your drive you haveto all intents and purposes lost all files on it.

there are forensic investigation utilities that might recover part or all of the files, but they are not available to the public and only to law enforcement bodies. It is debateable whether they will work, depending on the effectiveness of the format

I have recorded movie on a mini DVD -RW through Sony handycam, I need to finalize this disk(in camera) before I can use this disk anywhere else i.e. DVD player etc. but I took out without finalizing it and use it in a laptop with windows7, when I put in the dvd drive of the laptop I got an option to use this dvd like USB and as I choose this option, it started to format it, and I suspected something wrong and ejected the disk out, now I cannot see any data in the disk whether on camera or computer.
Before also many times I took out the disk from the camera without finalizing it but I put it back in the camera and can finalize it to use anywhere else.
Is there any possibility to retrieve that data, please help.

Question: recover data

I recently reformatted my computer, but for some reason, it formatted both my regular drive that I wanted to format, and my backup drive with all my data. I was wondering if there is going to be an "easy" and "free" method of recovering the data, specifically, reversing it back to the same condition it was in before the reformat.

Thanks!

Answer:recover data

No, sorry. Nothing particuarly easy but there are some choices. You can try a number of freeware apps such as this: http://officerecovery.com/freeundelete/ providing all you did was reformat and did not do anything else. I haven't used this but it was recommended once before here. It's for the NTFS file system. What file system was this drive?

I've used PCInspector and it's a fine tool but that was for recovering specific files not an entire drive's contents.

I have 3 hard drives currently installed in my computer. 2 are seagate sata-3g interface, easy. I pulled out an old IDE hard drive, a samsung 300GB. It's set to slave. On the post and boot screens, and the BIOS, it indicates the IDE drive is FAT32. Within Windows 7, it says that it is not formatted. It even said it was RAW.... that's not right! So I downloaded EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition and ran it. Now it shows Drive 3 as being split into 2 partitions: first partition (named "Ho" shows FAT32 formatting). The second partition (named "applications" shows no formatting). At one point I had this as my main drive and set my default settings in my O/S to install all my applications in that partition. I set all default folders to point to that drive at the time. I wanted to keep my O/S on one partition and all my applications, photos, user data, etc, on the other, so that when I defragged, I really only had to keep up with the applications partition, since I never changed anything on my main partition. Here is a screen shot:

I would like to save the data on the applications partition. I tried a few tools that "dug" up my old drives and I did get a few logos, application graphics, splash screens, etc, but really not much of value.

Any recommendations on how to recover lost data on Windows 7? I also would like to convert all drives to NTFS, so I can just run CONVERT drive from a cmd prompt, right? Thanks...

Hi,

I am new here and do not know much about computers. I had a toshiba laptop which turned off while I was watching a DVD and did not turn back on. A friend had a look at it and said that the DVD player caused the problem but my hard drive was fine. I bought a sony vaio as my toshiba was old and needed replacing. But I still need to recover all the files that were on the hard drive in the toshiba. The model of the hard drive is Fujitsu MHV2040AT.

I was going to take it to a data recovery company but was told that by using an Icy Box I could recover the data myself and make use of the spare hard drive; so I bought one. (model IB 220) I connected my hard drive to the Icy Box and then to my laptop. Messages came up idetifying the new hardware and stating that it is ready to use. So I clicked the Computer tab and saw that there was in fact no new drive. However, it did show in the "safely remove hardware" bit and also under drive management. Under drive management, it is termed as unallocated space. I know it is the external harddrive because the internal hard drive also comes up and is a different model. I have no idea where to go from here. I tried looking at theads in the forum and seem to have gathered that the hard drive needs formatting, but won't this erase all the data on the drive? I may be wrong as I have no idea about anything computer related. I tried using the Icy Box and old hard drive in a PC that runs on XP and the same problem occured there... Read more

Hi There!

There are a couple programs that can recover data but you're gonna pay for it because they aren't cheap.

You might try searching out a "Data Recovery" company and for a fee, then can most likely get everything back.
Good Luck!

Hey, I'm hoping somebody here will be able to give me some guidance as I'm running out of ideas...

Background:
Partners computer decided randomly one morning that her system HDD doesn't work anymore. I tried all sorts of bios settings, cable and jumper combinations but the bottom line is that her computer would not recognize the drive even existed, not even at bootup let alone in windows after reinstalling windows onto her backup drive. I placed the damaged drive into my computer and not only did it not show up anywhere but it stopped my backup hdd from displaying in windows (told me it had to be formatted).

I've determined that the only way I can get anything out of the hdd is to place it on an IDE channel all by itself. Luckily my primary hdd is a SATA drive so all I had to do was unplug my backup drive and we were in business, sort of...

So windows now recognize the new piece of hardware and installs drivers for it. The problem now is that the Disk Management utility shows the physical drive (80g WD drive with 2 partitions) as only 7.5g in size. I assume that this space is what was left over from the 2 partitions. I also noted that my computer is VERY slow to boot past the windows loading screen when the damaged drive is attached.

Recover My Files Results:
Not good so far I'm afraid. I download the latest version and have tried to run fast and complete format recovers on the 7.5g physical drives to no avail. The search starts and it all seems OK but it runs i... Read more

OK I will try to keep the saga brief. The PC is a:
Dell Dimension 9100
Windows XP Pro SP2
160 GB Seagate drives set to Raid 1 with the Bios

The PC was booting when city power went out. Since then the PC has not booted successfully from the hard drives with a Ntfs.sys file missing or corrupt. I can boot with a Dell WinXP Pro SP2 boot disk. I have tried replacing the ntfs.sys file with no change. Replacing the memory does not help either.

I ran checkdisk /r and recovered half a dozen files. The hard disks passed the hard disk test on the boot CD. I am in the process of running the diagnostic utility on the boot CD for the memory and hard disks. It has passed the memory tests as I write.

At this point it appears I either have a corrupted Windows install or a bad hardisk. Regardless I would like to backup my data before I proceed as I have been a bad boy about backups.

I was thinking I would break the mirrored set and do the rebuild on one drive. Could I then recover the data from the other drive before remirroring?

From the boot CD all the directories, except Windows, on the C:\ drive give me an Access Denied error? This is true for a change directory or a copy command. Will this be the same after I rebuild?!

Does anyone have any better ideas or suggestions? I thought of a 3rd drive but I cannot copy without the rebuild.

Answer:Recover data from a mirrored set

to be safe I would export all important data to a third drive before attempting a rebuild of any sort. Have you tried using crap cleaner registry repair?

So I'm trying to help a co-worker who never made any back ups of a 4 month running spreadsheet. Of course yesterday when she tried to open it, you guessed it, "Unable to read file. Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible." I tried opening the file in Office 07 as it was created in 03, and did manage to get some data. But that was only maybe about 10%. Any other thoughts as to recover the data? I know there are some software out there to purchase, and if that's what needs to be done then so be it. If so, then which one is trustworthy?

Thanks..

Hey Guys,For the past month my pc has failed to bootup successfully, i have tried all 3 safe mode sequences to no avail, I have also tried doing system restores on boot but only to bring me back to square one because everytime i try it just restarts. I can get upto the XP user logon but once it begins to load, it just crashes. The obvious thing is that something has been corrupted along the way and now it will no longer let me get further then the logon screen. I know the best thing is to reformat but i have lots of photos, college work and artwork saved on the HDD, i want to take some of it before i do so.My question is then - Would i be able to connect the HDD into another PC [making it a slave so it wont attempt to use it for startup] and just browse and remove the data i need via the computer? Its only that i dont think any of my files are damaged, just certain corrupt code preventing startup.Any responses will greatly appreciated!

Answer:PC DEAD - need to recover data from HDD

The simple answer is yes.Take it out and put it in another pc and access it through My Computer, transfer the pictures etc. Job Done.I assume it is an ide drive so you will have to change the jumper to slave if you have it on the same channel as your main Hard Drive. If it is sata you can just plug it in.After you have plugged it in I should run the anti-virus on it because you don't want to transfer any nasties to the good machine. Are you sure you can't access it where it is?Have you tried Safe mode or last good config.?

Any suggestions on how to recover data from a failed hdd without paying a service?

Specs: P4 1.6, 640 RAM, 30 G, Inspiron 8200
The Dell folks will replace the hdd still under warranty; but, the data wasn't backed up recently.

Symptoms:
Computer left on overnight, in the morning BSOD (unknown error message, I'm afraid). User turned off the computer and when turned back on no primary hard drive found and no optical disk found.

Tried connecting the cd-rom, or just the hd, thinking the motherboard, or cable is bad/loose but it's a lappy and can't get the cover off. Dell indicated the optical disk would be recognized if the HD was present.
Suggestions greatly appreciated.

We have a working Apple computer that can "play" these CD's but we need to transfer the data to another format to analyze the data. At this point the only thing we can do is print the data and re-enter it. Answer:How to recover data after a virus?

Well its not going to be easy. You should have done it before using a livecd of ubuntu or used it as a usb connected drive.

Now youre going to need to find a file recovery program and try and hope it'll find your files.

I don't know of any good ones, but there are both free and paid ones that work.

And the more you use the computer to save files, even temporary internet filres, the worse off you'll be, so do not start saving loads of stuff.

If the CDs aren't too badly scratched you can use toothpaste to try and buff out the scratches / scuffs. There's also the option of going to a DVD rental store (if such a thing still exists). Most of them have professional buffing machines that can restore CDs. If you are successful best practice would be to immediately create a couple of backups in case the CD fails again. Hi all,

I am trying to recover a backup file which iTunes makes from my iPhone. Everytime I you connect your iPhone to iTunes it does a sync and in the process creates a backup of your phone which is great.
It stores this in a folder in Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup.
Everytime a backup is created it seems to remove the older version and writes over the top of it but it doesn't name the folder exactly the same so I'm assuming it just deletes the old one and makes the new one.

The most recent back up was created by iTunes after the pst file in Outlook got corrupted and the info on it is now no good therefore I need to see if there is a way to recover a previous backup from say a week before so that I can use that to restore my iPhone.

Please help as I'm a bit out of my depth with this one but really need to sort it somehow.
Any other thoughs on how I might be abke to recover contacts from a dead/corrupt pst from outlook would also be appreciated.

I accidentally deleted a folder from my computer out of the recycle bin instead of restoring it. Well I know that if the data has not been written over by something else it can be recovered. Does anyone know of a program that can recover it for me?

Answer:How Can I Recover Deleted Data?

Try this. http://www.hiren.info/downloads.php/data-r...ry/hard-drive/8There are some other undelete utilities in those articles, although if one doesn't work there's no guarantee that another will, especially if your drive is currently in use and being written on.

Ok so I had some files on this hard drive now which didnt have an os and was part of another os until that crashed. So I booted to linux live and it showed the files i had on here so I installed linux thinking I could still be able to access them. When it said there was data and asked if i wanted to mount it i said no because i still needed those files so it created another primary partition with no filesystem so i uninstalled linux and installed windows 7 and in the disk management it shows up as a basic primary partition for 4.96 gb which is about how much data is on there but there is no filesystem and the only thing i can do with it is delete it. I have tried testdisk and i cannot seem to access the partition. i tried using linux live cd to recover them and it dosnt work on that either. someone please help me recover these. i have a paper i need for school to graduate on there.

Answer:recover partition with data on it

You installed Linux to a disk that had data that you wanted to recover ? What OS was on the disk that was part of the other OS ? maybe you could break down the steps a little more and add missing info like the OS versions partitions etc. You can also try r-studio and "get back data" to scan the drive for the missing data however I fear you overwrote the space when you installed Linux on the drive if I have followed your information correctly.

Hi,

I have an HP's laptop Nx7010. Recently I defragmented the D Drive (Operating System's Drive). After successful completion I began using it normally. At a certain point it started loading something and kept the reading/writing of the harddisk so much that the system went really slow and I couldn't do anything. After a while I shutted the laptop abnormally (by pressing the power buttton and holding it till it's off) and started it again. When the system booted the first time it just stuck. I restarted again and it booted but as soon as windows began the loading started again and it went for 5-6 hours. Then I hibernated the laptop and the next day when i started my laptop the message appears that the C Drive is not formatted. Do u want to format it????. Windows shows it as an unformatted partition. There is a lot of data there in C Drive. I really don't want to lose it. What do I do to recover it?

Answer:How to recover my data partition

To all helping: please read this all the way thru before replying!!! I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but I don't need a bunch of links to data recovery software, or undeleters, etc. Here's the deal:
A girl brought me her laptop after she dropped it. The screen is totalled. The PC does not power on. The laptop is basically crashed. She wants to recover as much data as possible from the hard drive (pics, music, docs, etc). I removed the HD from the laptop, hooked it up to a healthy PC as a secondary drive, and was able to recover most of her stuff; the hard drive was miraculously not damaged in the drop to the kitchen floor. HOWEVER- the crashed PC's main user account was passworded, and she used the "protect my files and folders" option, preventing me from accessing some stuff. I tried using the ol' "take ownership" method outlined here, that didn't work. I have tried booting to PE discs, I have tried booting to Linux. I simply cannot access these folders. The original OS on the crashed laptop was Vista Home Premium, probably 32bit. If anyone has any insight, suggestions, advice, thoughts, whatever, please share!!! Thanks!

Answer:Need to save/recover data

I'm not sure if it will work but, on the PC that you are using to do the recovery, you could try creating a user account with the exact same username and password that she used on the dropped computer. Login to that account and see if that satisfies MS security.

Hello guys, its all abou my server PC,
i have total 2HDD, and they were used on Ubuntu Server,
i have switched to windows, i want my data back, what to do ?

sorry for my Bad English

Answer:Recover Data After Ubuntu Use

i have switched to windows,

When you switched to Windows, did you back up your files first? How did you Switch? Tell us exactly which HDD had Ubuntu on it and exactly how you went about installing Windows?
Since Linux and Windows have totally different file system, you would have had to format the OS drive to install Windows. Meaning you will have lost all data.
Have you tried booting to an Ubuntu Live CD to see if you can view your files? If not you can use the free TestDisk program, I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. You will need another drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to.

After a recent crash, my IBM ThinkPad's hard drive has completely accessible files, but doesn't boot.

I bought an external hard drive enclosure to access the data, and this works great, with one exception-

My personal user files were password-protected, and when I try to view them remotely, I recieve an error message saying "Access is Denied."

I'm running Windows XP (an insecure system) so there has to be some way around this obstacle, right?

Answer:How to recover protected data

See if you can take ownership of the files

When I first had my Lumia 920, I created a hotmail account to set it up and stored all of my information from the old phone. I never actually used this account for anything else. Yesterday, my phone was acting weird and said that some data was suddenly lost. Turns out I lost all of the contacts, photos, and music but apps and settings are fine. I didn't save any of this to the cloud (don't want to be J Law you see). Today I found out that my hotmail account no longer exists. Apparently if I don't have any activity for 365 days, it is permanently deleted. Storage Sense shows that I have 8 GB of unidentified data, I wonder if this is all of the things that I lost and because the hotmail account was deleted, it doesn't know where to go. I connected my phone to the laptop but the phone folder is empty. The majority of the recommendations I found is to hard reset the phone to see files in the folder. However, I'm afraid that the 8 GB will be lost if I do so. I asked my best friend Google but doesn't look like he has much info on this issue (maybe I should try Bing, who knows). I don't know what else to try so any suggestion is very very appreciated.

Answer:How can I recover lost data?

Hello,
According to the Microsoft Answers page,Deleted Hotmail Account due to Inactivity - I need to access those - Microsoft Community
"If you haven't logged in via a web browser 10 days after you created your email, it becomes inactive. After an account becomes inactive, all messages, folders, and contacts are deleted. Incoming messages will be sent back to the sender as undeliverable.
Your account name is still reserved.
However, if the account stays inactive for an additional 90 days, the account name may be permanently deleted.
If you don't use your Windows Live ID for 365 days, your Windows Live ID will be permanently deleted."
In storage sense did it say unidentified data or "Other"? If you didn't back up your contact, photos, and music to a cloud storage or on a external drive, your content may be gone. You can try going to settings > back up > then turn the back ups on, maybe it will be able to retrieve the unidentify data and put it in the cloud. Other than that, your stuff may be gone. I hope this helps.

My labtop was infected by a trojan virus i was not able to restore from an earlier setting. I did get rid of the virus and reinstalled windows vista but now i want to recover my word documents and pictures and other programs but i do not know how. How can i recover all my data?

Answer:How to recover data after a virus?

If you reinstalled Windows on your computer, it overwrote everything. I dont think you can recover anything from before you reinstalled windows, unless you took a copy of them all on an external HDD/USB memorystick before reinstalling.

Hi,
i have a 4 gb pen drive, with very important data in it. But suddenly i got a message that ''it need to be formatted before use''.
i understand that pen drive is corrupted, i tried to recover data by many softwares but they cannot recognize the partition as well.
I thought that a format might be solve that issue....
But after format pen drive works and data cannot be seen/recover by any software at all.
I again say that it contains very important data and i dont want to loss it, so kindly show me a way plssssssssss.............

Answer:recover pen drive data

You could try an "unformat" utility. Did you by any chance change the format to/from NTFS and FAT32 with a quick format? I did that on one of mine and it lost data even though there was nothing wrong with it. Those drives are not for permanent important data. It's more like convenience. The electrical connections going in and out of those little chips get funky and your data is gone. Not reliable. In fact I'd trust an old 3 1/2" floppy diskette over a USB pen drive... at least for the first couple of months.

Hitachi 2.5" drive 40gig
NTFS

My 40 gig drive was 99% full and then I put way too many pictures in it, when I shut down it asked me if I would like to compress.
I answered yes and left it overnight.

The next morning it would not boot.

It never booted again, all attempts to view my files from the computer or an external cage are a not.

Is there a way to uncompress?

Answer:Trying To Recover Data From A Drive

Hello Martel,

If the hard drive wont boot and can't be read by an external system then there are severe problems with the drive. Sending it of to data recovery specialists might be the only option. Do you have the original system? If so you could try using a Linux live CD to boot the system.
