can spam filter reject incoming bulk emails?

Question: can spam filter reject incoming bulk emails?

I have these 2 contacts to whom I can never send emails together. My email to them is always returned and undeliverable. I can successfully send them emails separately. I am not sure if they have spam programs installed in their email system or not, but I am just wondering if spam program can block the emails for multiple receivers.

Or what else is a possibility of blocking my emails to them? Thanks

Preferred Solution: can spam filter reject incoming bulk emails?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: can spam filter reject incoming bulk emails?

Posted via Mobile Device
When a message comes back undeliverable that message comes from the ISP's smtp server because it cannot find the user on the system. You sure the address is correct. I have made the mistake in the past of having the same person in my address book twice but their email address had one charcter transposed.

Dear Major Geeks,

For the past month, we are experiencing a plenty of email problems. Everything was perfect until one day, we were trying to sent emails and some of them were rejected. Then we noticed that also some were going into the spam folder. People starter calling to tell us they couldn't email us because their emails were being rejected. I spoke to the company who host our email (Rackspace) and they told me, to create a domain "safelist" but the problem continues. We don't know what to do. This is becoming unbereable. Some people tell me that it could be a virus?

Please help! :cry

Thank you!

Answer:outgoing and incoming emails rejected or spam

I doubt this is an infection as rejected emails would be rejected by your email provider; however let's check for malware just to be safe.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.
After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeab... The emails are in SPAM ok in the main BT email account, this only happens on my phone

This is probably a thread suited for both this subforum and Webmastering/programming.

We use a custom webapp for online training that has a feedback page built-in, all written in PHP. Whenever an email is made from the site the app uses the user's email address as the From address in the email header and sends it to our organization's email server. However, none of the emails come through. After a few months of back and forth with our Network Management Office, I realize the problem. Since the email is given a From of, say, [email protected], and comes from a private server on a static IP (no domain name), our local email server can't verify the domain to the sender and trashes it as spam. Our techs refuse to white list this, so I've been forced to BCC all the email to my personal account, and manually forward it in.

The server runs Red Hat Linux and sendmail. I'm not very comfortable with sendmail, and don't even know where to start. Basically, I need it to send emails that can legitimately enter our network. I tried setting From: to [email protected]<ip> and that didn't work. The email came through as "Apache <[email protected][hostname].local>".

There are critical emails, and I'm breaking a few regs by having my personal account in the mix, so I'm trying to find a good solution.

Answer:Problems getting emails by a spam filter

Do what you can to get the emails white listed.

Ever since the transition over a year ago after my longtime internet service provider sold its assets in my area to another company, I have had great trouble with the spam filtering. The ISP spam filtering traps huge numbers of perfectly legitimate emails that I don't want kept from my Inbox. NOT ONCE has it trapped any of the "You just won a lottery you didn't enter" or "I need help with an inheritance" type emails that come. I don't get a lot of those, maybe one a month. It let a phony Walgreen's phishing email through 13 months ago. Fortunately I didn't bite.

I am too busy right now to go the trouble of changing ISPs. One support person told I could disable the spam filtering, but another subsequently told me I couldn't. I desire to disable it because it is doing nothing for security and is a big nuisance.

I have my email now with Outlook Express, but I will soon be switching, probably to Thunderbird. I don't want browser-based email because I don't want to navigate from column to column.

Any suggestions?

I would give Thunderbird a try, I use it here and am quite happy with it. Easy to setup and use.

hi my friend is with bt broadband and he receives about 100 spam emails a day but bt put them into a bulk folder he does not open them just deletes them but what can he do to stop receiving them at all

Answer:Solved: bulk & spam

There are many tools and programs that will attempt to stop spam, there are also services you can sign up that filter your email before it hits your email server.

However they cost and there is no real need if it is already being filtered off in to a junk folder.

Why is it that he doesnt want them in the bulk/junk folder?

Hi:

I'm using Outlook 2003 as part of Office Professional Suite 2003 with SP2. Also use XP Pro.

Here is my question: I have set up two mail accounts through two different servers and they are working.

I want to use one account for business and the other for personal. Right now, all incoming mail is going into the same inbox. I've tried help without being able to find the right info to solve the problem.

Can I set up two inboxes? One for each account? I get a lot of business mail and I think having everything in one inbox is slowing Outlook down.

If not, how can I set up an automatic filter that will send all business incoming emails into a folder (they do it for junk mail so I know it can be done) Would that be better?

I went to rules, but didn't know how to set anything up with the wording and didn't know if that was the right place anyway.

I'd appreciate any assistance. Thank you

Bill

I tried doing a search here for this, because I'm sure others have had it, but I can't find anything. My yahoo email account is sending out bulk spam to contacts showing a link for pharmacuticals, etc. I understand this isn't a virus, but what steps should I do? The few things I've seen online say to change passwords and even email addresses. This seems pretty extreme, others said it only lasts a few days, and they move on. What should I do?

Answer:Email account sending out bulk spam

Bulk spamming can sometimes be caused by malware. And other times it may be that someone has hacked your account. Have you changed passwords for you email account ( do it from a different PC - make sure the PC is a secure PC ).

If you want to be sure it is not related to malware then work thru the below:

Changing passwords is not an extreme measure, you need to do it or else the spam will just keep coming and your account will continue to be hacked. Be sure to change your recovery questions as well. I would also scan your computer for viruses and malware, the spammers had to have gotten your email address and password from somewhere -- could have been from a keylogger on your computer.

Question: Bulk Emails

I am using Windows IE, it won't let me send more than about 25 emails at a time. One distribution list is 155 emails, can't send them all at once. Need help.

Answer:Bulk Emails

Hi SparkleP, and welcome to TSG.

When you say, "I am using Windows IE", do you mean you are using Internet Explorer to access a web based interface to some on-line e-mail service? If so, the limit may be set by the e-mail service and not under your control. Your only options may be to request the e-mail service increase your limit or find a service with a higher limit.

Is there any way to reject an e-mail in outlook, so that it sends the sends a reject e-mail back to the sender, making it appear to them that the address that they sent to is invalid?
I would rather do this like you can in "mail" in OS X then simply try to block spam from Outlook 2003.

Answer:Reject Spam mail in outlook, as in OS X Mail

There are many such applications to do this, such as MailWasher.

However, please think carefully about it.
Spammers send out spam that depends on clicking a link or on an embedded HTML code requesting an image download that registers the "hit" with an entirely different website that the one the spam originated from in 99% of cases.

They never check the original outgoing mailbox, in fact most are probably shut down by the ISP shortly after the payload was sent.

"Bouncing" the message back therefore has no effect, its not seen or noted.
All it does is chew up yet more bandwidth, for which we all indirectly pay for in ISP fees.

Mailwasher is good to allow you to view the email header and delete it from the ISP server, so it's never downloaded at all. Just don't bounce it, for everyones sake.

I'm going to send a bulk email to customers. Is there a recommended limit to the number of people you should send an email to avoid the server putting it into spam at the recipient's end? Thanks.

Answer:Limit on bulk emails?

It's not an issue with the server per se.It's more to do with how the recipients mail servers handle your incoming mail.Make sure that your mail mail servers MX address's correctly set-up. If you can then registering with goodmail (click here) can help.Other than that, using a dedicated IP address that couldn't have previously used for spamming helps. And finally, at least from me, your recipients not clicking junk' or 'spam' when they receive your emails will ensure continued success.

My question is simple - but I haven't found, so far, any answer I can understand on the web.

How do I download all my emails off yahoo (that's inbox drafts and folders) onto my own computer - is this possible?

The background to this is that I'm a heavy email user. I have 10 years of emails on my account. This is personal and business. There's an awful lot of emails, though it doesn't amount to much in space terms because it's virtually all text.

I keep everything on email. I'm worried primarily about my stuff being removed accidentally or maliciously, so I want to back up locally. After all yahoo could suddenly announce that they're going to remove all emails older than a certain date - this would be an utter disaster for me. In adition, because I have so many individual emails (I receive at least 30 a day, keep most of them, and send off about 10 - keep all of them) yahoo email search no longer works on my account.

so how are these coming in and how do i stop them? are the emails getting routed through another email address? any info would be great. thanks in advance.

If you are using an Internet Security Suite, like KIS2009,you may mark the unwanted mail in the e-mail site as "spam" . Before that, it would be informative if the msnbc mail is "spam"in your mail and what e-mail program is being used?

My ISP has notified me twice that bulk emails are being sent via my modem. They said if it happens again my internet will be shut off until I have proof of my computer being cleaned by a professional. I'd rather avoid that and take care of it myself. I ran Spybot and found various malware/spyware. Then I ran PC Tools Antivirus. It found over 100 infections, most of which were worm.P2P.BThree.B.Gen. I ran PC Tools Antivirus again today and it found about 10 infections by the same name. I have included my HJT log file below. Thanks for any help you can offer!!

Hi everyone, I have both Outlook 2007 and 2013 that are synced using IMAP.

I have sent hundreds of emails regarding a specific subject, which I've saved copies of in a dedicated folder within Outlook.

What I'd like to do is send a follow-up email to all of those people but want to know if there's a simple (free) way of doing that using a template I've already created.

I know how to bulk reply to received emails by creating a template and a rule but I haven't managed to find any instructions on how to do this for sent emails.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Outlook Bulk Reply To Sent Emails...

The only way I can think of doing this would be to export the email addresses into an excel spreadsheet. Unfortunately that won't then allow me to put the original email underneath my follow-up email but I think this may be my only option without paying for a third party solution.

I have placed many in folders on the email page but can't transfer the folder to an external hard drive from the email page/ I know Ishould have saved as I went but usage and storage have caught up with me Thanks for help ( remember I'm somebody's OLD mother!!)

Answer:saving 38 pages of emails in bulk

No, Telstra isn't your client, they are your isp. The client is the program you can use on your pc to access your emails - Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, LiveMail etc. However, if, as I suspect, you don't actually use a client, but instead access your email via the BigPond website then I think you may be struggling to save all of your emails. AFAIK Bigpond deletes all emails over 180 days old unless you have done what you have, to put them into separate folders. I'm pretty certain that BigPond don't have an email export system like Hotmail .The only other way I can think of to download the current emails is to set up an email client on your pc using standard POP settings, then as soon as you connect your current emails will download to your pc, however you won't be able to get the emails in your folders this way. As an experiment, once you have your client set up, and the current emails downloaded you could try moving a couple of emails from the folders back into the inbox and see if your system download them before they are deleted.Edit: The links johnw got posted before I posted back explain how to set up your email clients, but the problems over your existing folders will still remain, so try the method I mention in the last paragraph."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." There's got to be an easy answer to this, and I know one or more members will resolve a query.Been having problems with Tiscali Webmail, and in their actions, emails are now sent from their server to my Tiscali account plus Outlook Express 6 on the computer.I now want to delete all the emails from Outlook Express 6, and there is well over 2000 by a quick delete method. I have looked how to do this , but have ended up with a negative solution.Any help would be appreciated and very welcome.Would perhaps mention that I am having problems deleting email from the Tiscali Webmail account as well. But thats possibly another issue that I will have to take up with Tiscali (dread!).

Answer:Outlook Express 6- Deleting bulk emails.

Not sure I fully understand the problem but in OE select one e-mail, Use the CTRL + A keys together which will select all and then SHIFT + DEL keys together to get rid of them all in one go bypassing the deleted items folder. If you say that the items are still on your server and duplicated in OE, check that under the Advanced settings for that e-mail account you haven`t got the "Leave copy on server" selected.

Hi, I use Comcast ISP... I have gone to their site to see if I could block incoming spam e-mail that is not addressed to me but apparently my addy is in the Bcc of the spam e-mail(which I cannot open or see); I updated anti-spam via Comcast's 'update' button but still getting 3 to 6 spam e-mails a day... Is there a setting I can change?? Thanks for any input

Specs: WinXP Pro/SP3/OE7 and use AVG which scans my e-mail for viruses...

Answer:Blocking incoming Bcc 'spam' e-mail

Also want to say to above to first post that I have been using 'block sender' to no avail; the spammer(s) just generate a new 'from' addy...

I am open to an additional software app that would block this kind of spam but really don't want to add another on if I can help it...
Can Comcast put a block on Bcc e-mail coming to me??

Just curious to know if anyone else has noticed incoming spam increased a lot this week.
Starting this past Monday the amount of spam being sent to our domain has pretty much doubled. Filter is working well, but curious to know if anyone else has noticed this.

Answer:Incoming spam much heavier this week

Somewhat related, we've been seeing many virus removals come in. I've alone done 6 total in the last 2 days. 2 of them having email flooders on them. Appears that the infections are up this week too. At least up here.

Hi, I watched a programme on British TV last night all about the problem of Spam mail, the presenter mentioned he somehow redirected Spam as it was coming in to a seperate folder he had set up, can anyone advise how this is done?
Regards....Mike

Answer:Seperate Folder For Incoming Spam

What email?
Web based (like Yahoo in USA, for example)?
POP3 (like Outlook Express. Also state version number)?

Yahoo has controls for an existing folder, directions can be found at their site.
Outlook Express you can use message rules.
And there are probably 3rd party programs with their way of handling it.

If you were much more specific as to program and version number, someone could probably provide specific details.

Why has the entry: *** SPAM *** recently started to appear on some - not all - of my incoming emails at the beginning of the subject line in the OE5 I've used for years on my Win 95 system? A full system scan with NAV hasn't revealed the virus I suspected, and I couldn't find anything obvious in the Symantec Encyclopaedia. It has shown up on messages from pcadvisor_online (regularly), Amazon, and some private non- commercial correspondents. I don't have any anti - spam software installed. I'm probably missing something glaringly obvious, but I'd be grateful if someone could rescue my sanity by telling me what's going on and how to stop it.

Answer:*** SPAM *** insertion in OE incoming messages

you may be recieving spam that is from a company trying to sell you software to stop spam :-)that would be my guess.

I am running Outlook Express 6 for my emails and I have one PC and 2 notebooks on my home network. I would like keep the Inbox & Sent folders on all 3 machines synchonised so that I can use any machine and have the same history.  I tried some  'synchronisation' software but it doesn't synchonise at all . . it copies! As a consequence I now have multiple copies of all my sent & received emails on each machine. Does anyone know of a simple process, or software to help me delete all the duplicates? (I now have thousands). I would also appreciate any help on how to solve my orginal issue which was to keep the various PCs in synch. Thanks

One of my clients is a registered charity working in a rural area.  Their provider is Zen Internet and they have a policy of allowing just 5 bounce backs for users within an hour to deter spamming.

Their address book is quite large and despite attempting to clean up their address book everytime they send out a bulk email they get blocked by zen with the following message.

"Domain xxxxxxx.org has exceeded the max defers and failures per hour (5/5
(71%)) allowed. Message discarded."

A limit of 5 is very low but thats Zens policy and I an see why providers are starting to do this.  Apart from constantly validating addresses which is difficult is there another way around this?  Zen mentioned Mail Chimp but I have no idea how this works and their website doesnt really tell you much.  I also wondered if it would be possible to set up a Gmail account with an alias to the main sender at my client just for sending out these emails.

As said its a charity not a buiness working with people across a wide rural community.

Any ideas?

Thanks

My ISP, Shentel, now uses Google mail as email servers. I run a business and in the past have been able to send bulk type emails, broken down into groups of 80 or less recipients (per my ISP instructions) and had no issues. I have about 10-12 of these groups of 80 or less recipients and I send each group seperately throughout the day. In otherwords, I don't send all 10-12 groups at once.

I only send these group emails 2 - 4 times a year, so I'm not sending 10 ga-billion emails.

Recenlty (say in the last 6 months), I send out these bulk emails and the emails are not delivered. They are not stuck in the Outbox and they show as being Sent. I have contacted some of the recipients individually and they indicated they did not receive the group emails, but do receive individual emails.

I contacted my ISP and they just walked me through my Windows Live Mail settings, but he was not able to offer any other help.

Any help appreciated.

Robert

Answer:Bulk emails using Windows Live mail through Gmail

It sounds like there's a syncing issue between Windows Live and Gmail.

Are you able to get to the Gmail admin page for your email account via a web browser? From there, make sure it's configure to use IMAP.

You may also want to try another email client, like Outlook or Thunderbird.

Question: Spam Filter

Whenever I come across a spam-filter software or application (from download.com) I find that they function only with Outlook and Outlook Express.
Is there any spam-filter software for web based emails like yahoo or hotmail?

Answer:Spam Filter

Web base e-mails like Yahoo and MyWay have there own spam filters. Any SPAM you receive, you can identify it as SPAM and it will be blocked after that.

MailWasher can block SPAM for OE or Hotmail accounts. There is a version you can buy, but I've been using the free version for a couple of years with OE. You can get either version here:

http://www.mailwasher.net/

The free version is limited to one account and doesn't work with Hotmail.

Question: Which Spam Filter?

I am now totally fed up with all the crap that arrives daily in my inbox. I get at least 50 emails a day to my home account and most, if not all of them, are spam.

Although it is quite cathartic deleting email after email, the theraputic effects have become less of a novelty.

Honestly, whether "Molly likes it huge" or not, at my age I do not need to be "rock hard for hours".

Aslo, I have better things to do with my money than buy a Rolex, real or not.

So, I need a competant anti-Spam program and I'm considering investing in Spam Arrest.

Does anyone know if it's any good or would you reccommend something else?

Answer:Which Spam Filter?

First, I would see if your ISP (your internet provider) offers free software for filtering spam. Many do, and often they offer pretty good products. If it doesn't offer any, check out this listing/review of free spam filters:
http://email.about.com/od/windowsspamfightingtools/tp/free_spam.htm
To some degree, it depends on what email program you use - Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc.

Answer:Spam Filter

Why don`t you set a Message Rule (Tools>Message Rules> Mail) Or add the senders to your blocked senders list? The latter will prevent delivery. Not Knowing your ISP, you may also be able to log into your account and set the filter(s) there.

Question: Spam Filter

My server has a filter and all the Viagara ,University degrees, Mortgages etc no longer hit my account. However I am now inundated with American Share Tips where the sending address changes all the time and reporting as Spam has no effect. However 90% of these are addressed to mainly three accounts ,none of which are mine, and apparently arrive on my acccount because my account is I am told by the Server BC in the original e-mail. My account must be BC three times because invariably these e-mails arrive in threes. It used to be fairly easy to tick and delete all these as Spam on the web but my Server is now introducing a new (improved!) web Mail Account where the delete process is much longer. Is there a free Spam Filter that can pick up e-mails on the web account not addressed to me and put in the Web Mail Spam Folder?

Answer:Spam Filter

Mailwasher with some suitable rules; click hereor Magic Mail Monitor - less than 200kclick hereI use MMM3 and have filters to auto-delete any emails including the words `micro` and `cap` (amongst another 20 or 30 rules) - they seem to catch most of the `penny stock` spam, the text ones anyway. Question: SPAM Filter

I use a web account to access most of my mail.

But some of my friends are having severe problems with SPAM MAIL.

One of them even purchased Norton Internet Security 2005 package, which includes:
Firewall (I like ZoneAlarm better)
AntiVirus (I use AVG... better)
Privacy control ?
Spam Filter - which hooks into the email client (Eudora, Outlook)

The Spam Filter doesn't seem to be doing a good job... anything that works better? Or is there a setting in Norton that may help?

These idiotic spammers are making email bloody useless!
PS: Also, Perfered "child" filtering program... I've heard of such names as cyber nanny and cybersitter... It would need to block sites, but also log attempts to sites.

Answer:SPAM Filter

For filtering, I know of a freeware application called iProtectYou .

The spam filtering can probably be adjusted in the spam filter application. For me, I like the filter found in Pegasus e-mail client. It is much safer than Outlook, a lot more flexible, and is freeware. Also, it is a bit more complicated to use than OE.

I've had friends tell me that K9 is a good spam filter.

Question: Spam Filter

I did think about posting this topic under the Web & Email section of the forum, but I've had a lot of help from you guys involved in the Security section, so I value your opinion.

Recently, I have had a marked increase in the amount of spam email (I don't need another watch; I don't need any medications; I don't require an online degree in less than 2 weeks, and I don't want to see my next door neighbours daughter try out her new webcam!)

I am running Win XP and using Outlook Express 6.

Anyone recommend a good filter?

Rhynos

Answer:Spam Filter

depends on how much you want to pay.

most spam filters work on a Bayesian filtering system, meaning that the software "learns" what is spam and what is not spam by attributes of the e-mails. There'll be a time when you'l have to manually tell it what is spam and what's not, and there'll be false positives and false negatives, but they'll go down (quickly) after a few days of use.
I haven't used these products personally, but here's a few reputable and good products (did research on them). http://spamassassin.apache.org/ Spam-Assassin
http://www.spamihilator.com/
Spamihilator

just run a google search for "spam filter" for more

Also, may I suggest switching to Mozilla Thunderbird? Fully configurable, easy to use, plus has a very good built-in Bayesian spam filter. http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/

I have used Inboxer for over three months as a test for some clients. It is a superb spam filter and learns very quickly. I have set it to check an account that is deliberately made available to advertising and a few friends. In all the time on trial it has never sent a serious email straight to spam but holds them in a review file. Once the message has been allowed it learns immediately/ You can set Inboxer to delete spam automatically or let you review it. The only downside is that it will only work in Outlook not express. It now deletes all the spam/advertising without me reviewing any of it.G

Hello:

I am in need of a good, simple pop spam filter.

Here is the catch: This would be for a recently widowed person who does not know much about her computer(her husband took care of that stuff).

Ideally I would recommend going to Thunderbird and training her email box, but what I need is something that would filter most spam out on its own that can plug into outlook express or outlook.

I know there is no single silver bullet that would get rid of all the spam, but I'd like to be able to cut most of it out.

Thanks in advance

I have been using Thunderbird for well over a year now and in general like it very much.

The problem I have is the spam filtering. It is only doing a so-so job.

I am not having any false positives but the adaptive filtering does not seem to detect 60% of the junk.

For example, I have been constantly marking as junk "Watch Replica Spam", but I keep getting five or more of this type of mail every day. If I could just filter out the word "replica", I could eliminate most junk of this type.

In addition much of the Vallium, Cialis and other unwanted "pharmaceutical" mail is not being filtered (although about half of it is being filtered).

To sum it all up, I am still getting much mail that is almost identical to mail I have previously marked as junk.

I believe I have set the Junk Mail control settings and adaptive filter properly. Is their anything else I can do?

Answer:Thunderbird Spam Filter

Do you ‘create filter from message’ when you get these Replica emails? You probably know this already, but here’s the info’ just in case: select the message [don’t open it] and click on Message on the menu bar, click on ‘Create filter from message’ and enter the word replica or whatever you want – you can make two or more separate filters for the same message, to catch everything this pest sends you – then tell it where to put the message and mark it as Junk. That should send it straight to Junk or Trash, according to where you directed it when you set up T’bird.

First off, it's it says it's newsletters that you are subscribed to, at the bottom of each email there should be a unsubscribe link. Yes. I know you didn't subscribe to any of these probably, but your email gets signed up one way or another.

A solution:

Use 2+ emails. 1 as your primary email for friends, family, or business. The others for signing up with websites and registrations.

Hey guys,

As the network specialist/administrator here at my credit union, I have the responsibility of researching out the best corporate spam filter as we have been receiving increased complaints of users receiving spam. Several of us here use SpamBayes spam filter, but that is only client-side filtering. Instead of setting this up on every single computer we have (70+ right now, plus we are opening up a branch in the spring which will add about another 20, with other branches in the planning stages), I thought it best to go with a corporate spam filter that resides on our Exchange 2000 server, running on a Windows 2000 Server machine.

Of course, when I want to research something like that, one of the first things I think about is the [H]ardForum. I am assuming that some of you guys have experience with this, so I'm gonna ask for your opinions. What have you guys used for corporate spam filtering, how much does it cost, how does it perform, and why is it the best in your opinion?

Thanks in advance for your help...it is much appreciated!

Jeremy

Answer:Best corporate spam filter?

We are out sourced by small to mid sized credit unions to do IT consulting and for the price and functionality of SPAM/ANTI VIRUS blocking Mdaemon is great. www.altn.com

I use outlook express as my mail client at home and my inbox is becoming overrun with spam about viagra and penis enlargement pills. I'm so freakin sick of it I just want to strangle the bastards wasting my time. Any recommendations on something that works well w/ Outlook Express?

Answer:Need a good spam filter

The best stuff I've come across has been server side.

I use spam assassin, and it works fairly well.

There might be a stand alone application that can interface with OE, but I've never seen it.

Since Virgin Media moved me from ntlworld.com to virgin.net, many of my emails have been siphoned off by the spam filter. This means every day I have to access web-mail, and then the spam filter, in order to deal with emails that previously appeared in Outlook Express as expected. What can I do about this?

Answer:virgin.net spam filter

The usual way to deal with this (certainly in Google Mail, for instance) is to add the sender's address of the 'genuine' e-mails to the address book at Virgin's web mail service.

Hi all
I've been using Spamihilator for some while now and I was wondering whether there are better ones out there.
Spam'tor used to filter out many spam emails and put them in the 'Training Area' but it's put nothing in there for a few weeks now.
This itsself is very unusual but, at the same time, I've noticed that I've not received several emails sent to me by known and trusted sources.
I've now lost confidence in Spam'tor and would like to use another recommended programme.
Thanks in advance,

Slime.

Answer:Spam Filter Recommendations Please.

You can use GMail as a spam filter and retain your current email account, You configure gmail to fetch your email from your current provider and then get your email from GMail. Keep your existing SMTP settings and you'll still be able to send as your existing account. There directions on doing this on: http://www.computerhope.com/tips/tip133.htm. GMail's spam filtering is very effective.

Sign into Google Mail and then click on 'Help' at the top right. Then under 'Common Mail Tasks and Features' click on 'Avoiding Spam'.There are now several options which should help you.

I saw an update for the built in Outlook Spam filter in the latest Windows Update batch, and it seems to have made a HUGE difference.

I don't know what they did, but my mailbox is much improved since installing it (way more so than other updates in the last few years).

If you use MS Outlook 2007 I'd strongly recommend installing the latest junk mail filters as they are excellent this time round it seems

I'd like a spam filter that works with AOL version 7 ( preferably UK version). I don't know how that differs from the USA version but I liked it better than the Australian version 7 so I installed UK, rather than continue with the OZ version.

The link below is a comprehensive review of 15 spam fighters that work on various ISP's and Operating systems. Only 2 work with AOL.

http://www.spamfilterreview.com/?engine=kanoodle!881&keyword=spam+stopper

The reviews may be of interest to MG users.

I had previously bought and tried MailWasher Pro (not reviewed here), but could not get it configured to work properly with AOL v7 UK despite many emails to and from MWP and much assistance from them. I bought it on the proviso that it worked. It didn't, they refunded my money, so no complaints there.

So, after all this, I am after a MG user that uses AOL and have found a program effective against spam. If it sends an "invalid address---not found" message back to the spammer so much the better. This was the prime reason I tried MWP.

If you have not had first hand experience with AOL please do not bother to reply as AOL is a special beast (not POP3, as I understand it).

Thanks, AOL users. Baz

Is there any spam filters for Thunderbird mail? All the ones I have found are for Outlook or Ourlook Express. Probably 85% of my mail is spam and I am tired of creating message filters for each one.

Is there a free spam blocker on Major Geeks or elsewhere that I can download for windows ME?

Answer:looking for free spam filter

Hi, try this one, PopMan. Only works with POP3 email clients like Yahoo but allows you to view your messages on the server before you download. You can delete any which you don't want straight off the server.

The address is: http://www.ch-software.de/popman

I bought this new spam filter, paid good money for it, and want to test it. Its a new email address and I can't tell if the filter works. Spam me as much as you can, and if I don't get anything I'll know it works. Don't hold back I really want to test this, and if the spam gets through I can just create a new address, so its no problem.

Heres the address, Thnks.

My email account is with a local ISP, ie. not one of the majors
like gmail or hotmail. I use Thunderbird on Linux as my email
client. The ISP uses Postini for email security.

I am being flooded by spam emails, which I suspect have the
same source. All are from hotmail addresses, with the sender
name a somewhat garbled combination of letters. The "to" address
does not appear to be my own, but I receive the emails anyway.
Since neither the "from" or "to" addresses are constant, I have
been unable to filter them out in either Postini or in Thunderbird.

I'm more than a novice but less than an expert, and I think I
understand that the sender address can be spoofed, tho I'm unclear
on how my own address can be spoofed such that I receive emails
that do not appear to be addressed to me.

Certainly my basic question is how can this happen and how can
I put a stop to it. Beyond that, what I'd really appreciate is a
pointer to some article, website, etc that would help me understand
the mechanics of this type of spamming, and the methods or options
to filter it out.

Thks, Gus

Is there a good free spam blocker available that will work with my yahoo e-mail to stop this spam problem?

Question: Free Spam Filter

Has anyone tried this Spam Filter … and have any comments ?
http://www.spamfighter.com/Product_Info.asp

Answer:Free Spam Filter

Does not sound very good to me because even if it knows the email is spam it just moves it to your spam folder.
That means you had to download the spam still.

Better of with MailWasher so you can filter out the email at the server and bounce, delete the spam there so you only download good email so then your have no need of a spam folder because you never download any spam.
