Preferred Solution: How to set Download Manager to default manager

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I like "Free Download Manager" and would like to make it the default download manager, overriding any download managers that may be associated with any Browsers or programs.
I have Windows Home Premium 64 bit using Windows 7(of course)
Any help would be appreciated.

hi, acouple of week ago i was hit by a rootkit malware and had a malware removal specialist from another forum have help me fix the problem, i now have a download problem that i was told it a window xp problem and that they can't help me and they refer me to this place. The problem is that i have flashget classic ver 1.72 as my default download manager, and it perfect, it managed all the download, that is until i was hit by the malware. Now it went back to window default download, and i have to manual select to download using flashget, i have try upgrading to the 1.73 ver and clicking the change default download manager in flashget option but still it doesn't work.for those who's want to see what i done to remove the malware, here the link http://www.spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.ph...asc&start=0

Answer:can't set flashget as default download manager

Well...if the malware has been neutralized...I see no point in revisiting that. Since you posted in the XP forum and not a malware forum, I will approach it from the angle that it's a program/system problem.

During malware removal efforts, it's not unusual for system/program files to become damaged. Have you tried uninstalling your program...running chkdsk /r...then reinstalling same?

i recently got rid of download accelerator plus because spybot s&d found that it contained ads. then i deleted it from program files as well. and i ran a registry cleaner with tune up utilities 2004. well in my firefox and mozilla browsers, DAP is still my default download manager. how do i get rid of this??? in netscape and opera, downloads work as theyre supposed to.

Answer:Uninstalled Download Accelerator Plus But It Is Still Default Dl Manager In Firefox

uninstall it from windows. DAP is a joke, don't bother. You can't speed up most new 56K baud modems, they already have built in compression on the card itself.

Just looking for recommendations on these two kinds off apps.
Download manager-I've used Flashget in the past. It's OK so I could go back to it. I'm just wondering if there are any others that are worth looking at and why.
Wallpaper manager-I've noticed that many of the wallpaper managers strictly work with photos from the hard drive. I'd be interested in something similar to Google Screensaver that pulls wallpaper from the web, even from news stories. It looks like there was a Google Wallpaper for a while but it closed. I used Eyetide several years ago but they became a spyware trojan so I guess that's the other thing. Spyware free, please. It's too bad. It used to be a good product. I noticed one called Cool Wallpaper but I dunno.

Answer:Download Manager, Wallpaper Manager

For some really neat Wallpaper, check out Visual Paradox Free 3D Wallpaper.

It says connecting and the lights on the modem start blinking as if it is downloading but it doesn't. I can still browse websites but can't download even in Opera, Mozilla or IE. I've been using IDM (6.25 build 3 most recently) happily for quite some time. For Christmas I purchased an online class which streams (?) from a .com website. I paid $128 for the class which remains online. Although I can view it anytime, I'd like to have it on my hard drive so I can put it on my laptop and watch it in bed instead of sitting at my desktop computer. Also I've purchased classes in the past and the website went out of business and *poof* my purchased classes went with them!!

When I use IDM to download the .flv file and play it back using Windows media player, I only get audio...no video.

Can anyone suggest:
-- what's going wrong?
-- a solution
-- another program I can use?

Thanks for the assist!
LuniLadi

Answer:Internet Download Manager Plays Only Audio For .flv Download

IDM is currently at 6.25 build 12. IDM only downloads files it doesn't play them. That's the job of your media player. An alternate media player you might try is VLC available at Major Geeks.

When I load a camera memory card on to my PC (via card reader) the windows Scanner and camera wizard pops up. One option is to open photos directly into Adobe photo shop elements. I would like to change this to PSP 8. Hopw do I do this?I cannot seem to find my way around it (tried the Program access and default buttons but it isn't applicable to the camera wizard). As I haven't downloaded any camera software (currently running 4 off of the PC so stick to one card reader) I cannot change this in Scanners and Cameras in Control panel, as only my scanner shows up.Any help much appreciated!

Download EasyBCD 2.0 Beta Builds - The NeoSmart Forums
Install microsoft dotnet framework 2 (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/...ice-Pack.shtml) and then install EasyBCD in xp. (without .net framework 2 easybcd may not run in xp). Run Easybcd 2, click on Add/Remove Entries button, then add an windows entry of appropriate type (windows 7) and press the add entry button. This will add a windows 7 entry in the boot manager, and you will be able to access it. Reboot and see it there.

Edit : If you have the windows 7 installation dvd, You may run Startup Repair to fix the MBR and bring back the windows 7 boot entry back. Generally Startup Repair is to run at least three consecutive times to fix MBR.

When ever I open up my IE7 program I get a message stating that IE is not my current browser and am given the option whether I would like to make it my default. This message happens everytime despite the fact that I have already chosen IE7 in the Internet options in Control Panel. Something is causing my system not to recognise IEP as my default although Windows Internet Explorer is displayed on the top bar. Can anyone shed anylight on this problem?Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Answer:Message Saying Ie7 No Longer Default Manager

Try another method.

Start menu/All Programs/Set Program and Access Defaults.

Custom.

Choose a default Web browser.
Check Internet Explorer, click OK.

If that doesn't work, you could try resetting internet explorer settings.
Internet Options/Advanced tab.
Click RESET, then Apply.

Resetting will change your homepage to msn, and can easily be changed back to whatever you want.

I have a camera multi-card reader. Previously when ever I put a card into the reader the windows wizard popped up and I could select what I wanted to do with the pics on the card. I think some how the default settings have been changed as now nothing happens when I put the card in, but searching using "My Computer" and looking for removeable drives, finds the photos on the card. I preferred it the old way - how do I change it back? (presuming that that is the problem?)

I've been using XYPlorer as a replacement for the standard Windows file manager for a while, and I want to use it exclusively. It has a lot of features, but a primary advantage is that you can open several folders at once with a tabbed interface and just one instance of the file manager, rather than having a bunch of Windows Explorer instances running at once.

My problem is that I have a lot of applications that open folders, and they always use the standard Windows Explorer to do it.

Are there any registry settings that I can change to make XYPlorer my default file manager?

Answer:How to change the default file manager?

It depends on the application. If it explicitly runs explorer.exe, I'm afraid there is nothing you can do. If it opens the folder using the default handler, maybe tweaking HKCR\Folder\shell\explore and HKCR\Folder\shell\open can help.

BTW, QTTabBar gives you tabs in Windows Explorer. I don't use it myself, but lots of people swear by it.

I have just installed office 2000, and when I opened the outlook, it asked me if I wanted it to be my default mail manager. I said 'no', but now I've changed my mind. I was hoping it would ask me again, (programs are usually quite persistent), but it didn't. How can I provoke it into asking me again? I have tried uninstalling it, and then re-installing it, but that didn't work. I also tried the help menu, but it didn't seem to be on there either.

Hello all:
Is there a way to set a default file manager, globally? I've already checked the "Set Program Access And Defaults" section of the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel, and it does not list a file manager option. I use xplorer2 as my file manager, and I would like it to be the default, across the board. The reason why I ask this now is because I installed a program launcher which has the option to add folder shortcuts. But when I click the shortcut it opens with Windows Explorer. There is no option in the launcher to define a file manager, hence my need to set a global default.

I hope I'm making sense... LOL.
As usual, any help is very much appreciated!

Hi Guys,
I recently downloaded bbc iplayer, when I click on it, it - rightly says I have no programmes to watch.

I click through the "download programmes" button which brings me to the iplayer home page - so far so good.

I select (for example) TV, John Bishops Britain, then select download options, for iplayer desktop-"click" and ....drumroll, nothing, nyada, zilch!!

I de installed and reinstalled thinking perhaps there was a corrupt file somewhere, this made no difference.

I then selected download for windows media player and got this message;

Software upgrade required
To download BBC iPlayer programmes please upgrade your version of Windows Media Player. Click here to get the latest version from Microsoft.

So far as I can see for my OS (XP pro) wmp11 IS the latest version available and the one I'm using.

It's really quite frustrating, I have had no luck on the support site or, so far by trawling through the net looking for answers. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in anticipation and best regards,
Brian.

Answer:BBC Iplayer download manager - wont download!!!

Instead of downloading it through the desktop program download them on line they should go strait to your Iplayer desktop
go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
go to the required show
scroll under the video
click "download options"
then "for iplayer desktop"

Quote:
A free download manager designed to integrate seamlessly with Windows 7 is now available from Microsoft. Dubbed the Microsoft Download Manager, the utility is designed, as the label implies, to help users administer their downloads beyond the boundaries of the browser. More often than not, downloading very large files can be problematic, especially in the context of an unreliable connection. It is precisely in scenarios like these that a download manager will carry out any download tasks to the end, unlike browsers missing this functionality.

?The Microsoft Download Manager enables you to download files from the Internet in a more reliable and faster way than using a browser alone. Using the Download Manager makes it easier to download large files such as an application or multimedia files,? Microsoft explained.

According to the Redmond company, the Microsoft Download Manager comes to the table with support not only for Windows 7, but also for Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2 and SP3. Microsoft Download Manager was designed to work with Internet Explorer 8, IE7 and IE6 but also with Firefox 3 and Firefox 2.

Hello all, Due to an issue with the original hard disk of my E440, I have decided to install a new SSD drive. As I couldn't access the recovery partition, I installed Windows 7 from a Microsoft DVD instead of the recovery media and later installed all drivers/software from Lenovo. However, the Power Manager plans feel "off" to the ones that the original system had, with the system being slower when running on battery compared to how it used to be before. I am certain that the Lenovo power plans in the Power Manager downloaded from Lenovo are differently twicked in comparison to the ones that came with my computer. Since the Power Manager has the option of exporting the power plans is built into the software, I was wondering if a kind soul could provide me with the exported .ini files for the five power plans that came with the E440: "Maximum Battery Life","Power Source Optimized","Timers Off (Presentation)","Video Playback","Maximum Performance" Thank you very much in advance! K.

I have a Toshiba M700 laptop, running Windows Vista ultimate.
It has an internal bluetooth adapter. The bluetooth manager software that installs along with the drivers from Toshiba's website sucks. It causes a lot of little annoying problems, some of which you can't get around at all.

For this reason, I wish to use a different bluetooth manager program.
I'm not sure if Vista really has a default program, but my other 2 computers that have bluetooth seem to use the same, less annoying, bluetooth manager program.

Sorry if I'm being ignorant, but I'm not well acquainted with bluetooth yet.

For a few months, I'm guessing since around when Win 8.1 came out, "Save As" and the Browse file location icon have been opening Windows Explorer with some programs instead of my default file manger, XYplorer (default by the latter's settings). And the Windows Explorer window that does open is full screen without any size adjusting facility, that is, neither in the top right corner or by dragging the sides (the arrows are there but there's no drag). Two programs I use frequently that are exhibiting this are Internet Download Mgr and PDF X-Change Viewer. This wasn't a problem before recently under Win 8 or Win 7. Any ideas? Did MS make some changes in this regard with 8.1? (Win 8.1 Pro x64). Thanks,

Answer:Win Explorer opens instead of default file manager

Windows Explorer is the default File Manager for Windows.

I seem to have a problem with my audio the voice is not natural and very high pitched I possibly made an adjustment to the Realtek audio manger settings and I just want to reset to the original to get back the natural voice particularly on Skype can you tell me how I can achieve this?

Answer:How do I set my realtek audio manager back to default

Open Realtek audio manager and there should be an option to reset all settings to default, usually accompanied by a button called 'Default'. "I'm tired. But then again I'm so hungry I can't sleep. But what's the point of eating if your sleepy?" - Sniff, The Moomins.

The question is very simple:When booting i just want to change the default opion in boot manager that appears after the F9 button is pressed. This is not done in bios boot settings, as in the UEFI boot order not all the options are sawn.In fact i have a win10 system alongside ubuntu in the same disk on other partition and while in the boot manager i can see the option i want, in any way always OS boot Manager of windows is starting, except within F9. So i want to change permanently the default option in F9 boot manager.

Hello,

I'm trying to connect a bluetooth sensor to my laptop, which uses Windows 7 Professional. Using the default Windows bluetooth manager, I've added the device without using a paring key (as instructed by the device's manual).

Until here there's not a problem.

When I try to run an application which uses the device, Windows informs me that there's a device trying to connect to my computer, and asks me for the pairing key.

Since I've already added the device to my computer, why does Windows doesn't recognize it? Why does it treat it as something new?

(It's not an hardware problem, I've tried using a dongle with the Windows default bluetooth manager, and I had the same problem)

Answer:Problems using the default Windows bluetooth manager

hey...

I have a somewhat similar problem. Did you solved it?

cheers,

I am using Windows 2000 Pro.

I recently begain using a local cellular company's Wireless Broadband service. They gave me a wireless card (Kyocera Passport 1xEVDO) for my laptop. I got an adapter for my desktop (Elan Digital Systems p423.) I could not get the adapter working so uninstalled PCMCIA adapters from Device Manager. Now it is gone! I do not know if the device was showen because I installed a driver myself or if it is installed by default during the installation of Windows 2000.

Is PCMCIA installed by default in Windows 2000?

Answer:Device Manager - Is PCMCIA installed by default? W2k Pro

Have you forced Device manager to scan for hardware changes? Also have you removed and reseated the card? Usually with PCI cards you have to load the drivers but alot of older equipment XP has drivers built in. I am thinking the disk you have should have the drivers on it. You did the first 2 and its still not showing is there anything that reads "Unknown Device" in the device manager? thats probably the card you have reinstalled and if thats the case yes you need drivers.

Hi All, I have added new SSD into my laptop and also migrated OS from current HDD to this SSD. I have verified and tested that from F9 I am able to cleanly boot into this new SSD disk with amazing speed and no issues. Now I wanted to set this SSD as default in boot options where currently it is showing both HDD and SSd. But this OS Boot Manager sub menu does not allow me to change the sequence. It is showing both and by default it is booting to HDD OS, unless I manually interrupt using Esc and F9. As of now both HDD and SSD are available in my laptop with OS. Could anyone please suggest how can I make this SSD as default boot? ThanksVamshi

I have quite some experience with win98 'ghost driver' issues and have been sucessful in repairing them. In my new-to-me laptop with winxp, I have multiple monitors listed in device manager as 'default monitors' along with extra batteries and an extra fan within system devices within device manager. I know these extra items slow my 'puter, but for the life of me, I am unable to use the procedures with success, that have been previously so successful in win98. Any advice in resolving these nagging issues would be much appriciated. Thank you in advance for any efforts made on my behalf.

After much searching I'm back to this forum for some help!   All of a sudden I'm not able to open pictures in Microsoft Office Picture Manager as they only open in Microsoft Photo Viewer.  Right clicking on the photo 'Open With' will not open in Office Manager but in Photo Viewer.  I have checked the defaults and they are correct.   I have uninstalled Malwearbytes as one post indicated file extension exes. can be missing or changed to nothing at some point because of that software.  Also have went to the registry but FileExtensions file is not there but a FindExtension is and could not continue with suggestions for correction.  Look forward to some help!  Thanks a lot!...........Candy  (I do run RegServe)

edit the boot.ini file located in the c:\ drive

Mine looks like this. I am assuming in yours there is two entries in "operating systems". (the kernel part in mine is extra (a cool bootloader))
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional (bootscreen)" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /KERNEL=kernel1.exe

Just change the default to the xp partition

I have used GetRight for a while and liked how it can connect multiple times to a server and really increase the download speed, but I can never figure out how to schedule downloads or get things to download one after another.

I also used Flashget for a bit, but got sick of the ad's.

Basically, I am after a download manager that allows mulitple connections to the server, allows for scheduled downloads and will allow me to set things to download one after another.

Suggestions?

I am looking for a download manager that can download multiple application files from a website simultaneously and by itself. For example click this link.

http://www.aimutation.com/dload.php?action=viewall

There are about 100 or 200 .exe files that I want to download from that page and about 3 subpages deep. I have dial up for one, so I don't want to sit here for hours while I click each one and wait for it to download. I've tried a couple of download managers and all they will download is the image files and such. Please help, what manager can I use that will do this for me?

Answer:What download manager can do this?

Reget Deluxe

First select all the files you want to download. Then start the download process. You will want to use the schedule option after that i.e. start one download then estimiate how long it will take to download that file and schedule the next download to start after the estimated time and repete. It will continue downloading all the files at the scheduled times. It will resume a broken download (disconnects and etc). It's a great program but it's shareware.

I've bought the Student 32-bit version of Win7. I received a confirmation email with my order number and Key.
Successfully downloaded both the .exe file and the ISO file. I don't want to run the ISO file if I can possibly avoid it BUT the .exe file doesn't run. The Digital River download manager opens, and then says that I need to be connected to the Internet for it to run...when i AM connected! So I don't even get as far as putting the key code in.
Found the Customer service button, which asked for Oder no or email address + last 5 digits of credit card details - it regognises neither of these. I'm pretty sure I bought it directly from the Microsoft website, so perhaps the exe. file is corrupted? Still doesn't explain why it doesn't recognise my order
Any ideas?

I was using Real Downloader, (not great, but it worked for me) but I recently formatted my drive and lost it, now I can't find it online to download.

Don't need anything fancy. Something free or very cheap, NOT loaded with spyware, want to be able to pause the downloads and resume later. Something that can handle a bunch of downloads (or at least put them in queue) at a time if necessary.

Oh and if you are downloading multiple files with the same name, I'd like it to create a new name for the second file instead of having to type one in myself.

Thanks!

Question: Download Manager

I recently gave up my Direcway satellite broadband and returned to dial-up . My Dial-up ISP has an accelerator program (Propel) that works pretty good for browsing but is useless for downloads. I get about 2.7kbps. A simple definitions update from AVG takes almost 45 minutes for a 5Mb file. I looked on www.download.com and found quite a number of utilities after searching on "Download Manager". Among them were Kazaa and a couple of other names I've seen associated with spyware.

So I'm looking for a recommendation on the best free download manager and also whether there are any gotchas associated with download managers in general.

I'm running Win98SE with a MyIE2 browser on a P2 Dell desktop. Any and all thoughts appreciated.

This is a two-part question that breaks down into the categories of freeware and software you have to pay for. In specific, I'm looking for informed users of download managers.About 3 years ago, I tried asking the Wikipedia editors of the comparative table of download managers to update it (because it's woefully incomplete) and the short answer was "Do it yourself." The long answer was a bit better, but the excuse given for why most DMs weren't listed at all was because they only list DMs that have a page on Wikipedia. When I searched Wikipedia and posted a list of all the DMs on Wikipedia that were NOT in the table, that's when I got blown off. Not being an expert on the topic (although I've tried a few from the very LONG list that are available) of DMs and audio/video DMs, I wisely declined. So, here I am, looking to BC members to see if I can get a good idea of which DMs are top of the heap. Please keep in mind a few points:I dumped Download Accelerator Plus because of the adware and some other issues.I am dumping Free Download Manager because it doesn't allow me to pause my downloads.I had problems with Go!Zilla when I tried using it.I've used LeechGet and JDownloader, but formed no opinion yet.I'm also dumping FlashGet 3.7 because there is no way to completely disable P2P connections with it, and also because it's trying to get me to install the Simplified Chinese Language Pack when I haven't visited any sites that ...
