Need the BEST program removal application in the world!

Question: Need the BEST program removal application in the world!

Hello Everyone,

I've finally had enough. I am sick and tired of using windows control panel to uninstall programs. Why? Because 1/2 the time I use the add/remove programs thing it doesnt uninstall the program completly. It will leave folders, files, registry entries, hidden crap, and who knows what else still on my computer from the program I wanted to uninstall. Then I have to go back and try to delete them manually, then pray that a registry cleaner will find the rest (which usually doesnt happen).

I'm looking for something that will completely remove EVERYTHING when I uninstall a program. I dont care if it costs money or if its free, as long as it works.

Thank you if you can help.

EDIT: on a side note. Also looking for an easy to use free macro program. Somthing that I can use to press a key stoke, have a few minute delay, and repeat the key stroke. Then loop that untill I press stop.

Preferred Solution: Need the BEST program removal application in the world!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just sharing this here in case anyone else on the web is looking for a way to run World of Warcraft off of an external hard drive. Up until Legion expansion it use to work for me. But recently Blizzard broke the game execution through external hard drive connected via USB and now states an error message on Battle.net stating Execution of World of Warcraft to en external device is no longer supported.I didnt want to consume 48GB of my SSD to run the game and so I went looking for an alternate way to make this work. Sure enough Blizzard does not verify that the path is linked to a symbolic link and so I am able to install WoW to my C: drive, then move the game to my E: drive which is external hard drive, and then delete the C: installation of WoW and create a symbolic link to the external hard drives path to the game and it works with no error messages. Not sure why Blizzard wanted to kill off running the game on an external hard drive, but I just cant see it eating up almost 50GB of space to run it on my SSD.Here is the symbolic link that I used highlighted. My installation is custom to C:\World of Warcraft. Anyone with default installation would have to change the path to match their installation path and change destination path of symbolic link to make it work for them. Trojan program hijacks World of Warcraft accounts despite two-factor authentication

A new Trojan program is targeting users of the popular online role-playing game World of Warcraft and is capable of hijacking accounts even if their owners use two-factor authentication.

?We?ve been receiving reports regarding a dangerous Trojan that is being used to compromise players? accounts even if they are using an authenticator for protection,? a technical support representative from Blizzard Entertainment, the game?s developer, said Friday in a message on the Battle.net forums. ?The Trojan acts in real time to do this by stealing both your account information and the authenticator password at the time you enter them.?

In a later update on the Battle.net forum, another Blizzard tech support representative said that the company tracked down the source of infection to a fake, but working Curse Client distributed from a fake website. The Curse Client is a third-party application that can be used to install add-ons and modifications for several games including World of Warcraft.

Hi folks,

The titile pretty much says it all. I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional, and installed a (legitimate) version of Norton Internet Security 2010.

I installed Dev-C++ afterward, as I'm learning C, and created a quick "hello world" program. This is the only code I had:

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
main() {

printf("Hello, World!");

}
That was it. When I tried executing it, Norton Internet Security 2010 popped up, saying its "SONAR" feature had detected "hello world.exe" acting suspiciously. I ran it anyway, and it executed as intended. I just brushed it off as a false-positive, but later I started wondering if it was something else. How prevalent is malware that injects malicious code in the source code of newly compiled programs?

Can anyone offer some insight, or if anyone has NIS 2010, can you try the same thing to see if you can replicate it?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello:
I 'm not playing word games here. A month or two ago, I downloaded and ran the "Kaspersky virus removal tool". It found problems the other programs were missing. I followed directions and let it remove the problems. My big mistake was in keeping the program on the desktop to try again sometime. At some point WinUtilities, or Ashampoo Winoptimizer removed the Uninstall made by Kaspersky for this tool. The virus removal tool is not listed as a program, on Revo, Advanced Removal tool, or windows. It won't click to delete, but I feel it's a program, so maybe it shouldn't. It contains 321 MB,& 4890 files. Looking in permissions(security) of this "program", I seem to be lacking "Special Permission" . I'm afraid to tinker with permissions.
I would appreciate sincere , simple, step by step, help. I tried reinstalling a new Kas.virus removal tool, and then uninstalling it. Got rid of the new one , didn't touch the problem.
Thanks.

Answer:Virus Removal Tool Program removal

Try this tool at your discretion*. The utility should pick up on any remaining traces of the program and display it on its list for removal.* The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is provided "as is" to help resolve installation problems for programs that use Microsoft Windows Installer. If you use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs. Caution is advised.

Howdy,

A long time ago I installed Empire Earth II. I deleted the program but the desktop icon remained. I contacted the publisher of the game and they gave me a crazy long process to remove it. I decided I could live with the icon.

Today I've been doing some major hard drive cleaning and came back to that old icon. I heard about KillBox and thought I'd give it a go. It said it cannot delete the file. I also regularly run CCleaner, Ad-Ware, AVG and Spybot. None of them have ever brought this file up as an issue.

The file is: "C:\Documents and Settings\Skin\Desktop\EmpireEarthIISetup-dm.exe"

When I try and delete it, I get an error saying that it is being used by another file. I even tried it from Command Prompt to no avail. To my knowledge all associated files have been deleted long ago.

And and all help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Seeing as this is not a malware issue I am moving it to the software section.

Try doing this:

download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
* Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
* Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
* Do not change any check box options!!
* Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

Files to delete:
C:\Documents and Settings\Skin\Desktop\EmpireEarthIISetup-dm.exeClick to expand...

* Now click the Execute button.
* Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
* Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
* Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
* A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Then see if it was removed.

I tried too remove it using the ADD & REMOVE opption in control panel but found that it was still there even though no trace could be seen on my hard drive.I have tried to re install the software but the program is saying that it is still there. My computer starts and runs very slowly and I am guessing this has something to do with it. log file attached. Any help greatly accepted.

Hi! I ran into this problem on Saturday, ran Malware Bytes' Anti-Malware and the issue returned Sunday. Sunday, my computer went to a blank screen after the initial Dell splash page (Inspiron Mini 1010). Some how, some way I managed to get my Windows loading screen back and login. At this time, I can use the computer okay, however, I'm afraid this thing is lurking somewhere. Unfortunately for me, I'm a freelance writer. I'm sure that explains it. I'm new here so bear with me.

I posted this in the XP forum and it was suggested that I move it to here so it's in both places.

I tried to defrag my hard drive and the defragmenter would not start so I tried to do a system restore but there weren't any restore points and I couldn't create any restore points. The etrust anti-virus was not picking anything up so I disabled it and installed pctools spyware doctor w/ anti-virus and it picked up "trojan.fakealert". I proceeded to fix the infected files and spyware doctor said something about some programs may be affected by removing some files. I wanted to get rid of the trojan so I continued with the fix. Now I'm getting error message after error message. One of them is "application error", "agent.exe", "memory could not be read", followed by "exception eaccess violation", "pctgmhk.dll", followed by "runtime error". Another application error is "wuauclt.exe" with "memory could not be read". There have been many others but I haven't taken note. I get "the program encountered a problem and could not continue" errors allot and they are mostly related to internet explorer. Now my speaker stopped working except for a beep whenever an error message occurs. I checked "sounds and audio devices" in the control panel and it says "an audio device is not installed". One other thing it is doing that probably should be mentioned is google search redirecting. By that I mean when i do a google search and click on a link in the results it does not take me to that site. Instead it redirects to any number of weird search sights and it takes 4 to 8 tries clicking back and then clicking the link again before it actually goes to the right place.

I was downloading music when I was prompted by AVG I had malware. I sent it to the virus vault, but when I went to remove it, AVG could not be brought up, I have to choose from a list of programs. The only option that works is Google Chrome. I thought I needed to reinstall Firefox so I deleted it, stupidly, and now I cannot re download it because nothing installs. I cannot use any applications, not even media player.
Trying to open some programs like Works I get a message box saying C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WksWP.exe Application not found.
I downloaded HIJack This and Gmer but neither will open without choosing from the program list. When I tried opening HIJack, a message box stated this "file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." When I went to the control panel to change the default, I cant because the program list isn't sufficient.
I do not know how to continue or how to get HIjack to work so you can help me.

Dec 6, 2007 8pm estHello Tech Specialists,I have Windows XP Home installed on my eMachine W3502.After several grueling days of "Trojan Wars", and the like, now all my malware scans come up clean. After three pages of posts and replies we can safely say the system is purged of foul and insidious malware. But we are having some browser problems and other symptoms now, so we are in a "post-malware removal, pre-repair of the damage done" state. It may be a 'back-up and reformat' fix; but I don't have a clue how to accomplish this Herculean task. All I can do is give you the facts and symptoms, so here they are:I was sent to Control panel > Admin Tools > Event Viewer > System.....and there is a long log-like list of entries (847) of which about 100 are marked with red X's in error-mode. The words on the right column say SideBySide, and most have the dates of the last 2-3 days. I can click properties and get a Microsoft link to "Help & Support", but at first rush-thru it seems they have little info on this type of thing. I will look closer later, but for now.....My IE7 browser will under no circumstances allow me to download script from Symantec's Online scan web-site. It first blocked the free Kaspersky one, but as we cleaned up the mess I am now able to run Kaspersky's and get a clean report with no malware. My subscription AVG anti-virus app never caught anything, but todays latest updated scan also found nothing. Spybot shows nothing and... Read more

At first I thought nothing of it until recently the computer has been running painfully slow. Now I've realised it's probably a virus.

Three times I've tried to paste my logs onto this page and it has crash. Sorry that I have had to attatch them. THe Active Scan log won't even attatch, its too large. What shall I do about that? I hope you can help and thank you for your time.

A recently published e-book penned by the self-proclaimed ?world's No. 1 hacker? is rocking the security community with back-and-forth allegations of plagiarism, racism, and even threats against a security podcaster and his family.
How to Become the World's No. 1 Hacker is purportedly written by Gregory D. Evans, an animated felon who went on to become CEO of Ligatt Security International, a publicly traded company worth about 0.0002 cent per share that bills itself as a full-service computer security firm. Released by the obscure Cyber Crime Media publishing house, the 342-page PDF is a comprehensive, step-by-step guide for consumers who want to learn how to harden their networks against attackers. Unix security, Wi-Fi cracking, and web service configuration are all covered.

But it turns out that huge chunks of the book weren't written by Evans at all, even though no other authors are credited. For instance, virtually all of Chapter 12 ? 5,894 words, to be exact ? is identical to this tutorial on port scanning written by Armando Romeo and published on the hackerscenter.com website in early 2008. And 1,750 words found in Chapter 9 were lifted from this manual posted to ethicalhacker.net, including screenshots that make reference to Chris Gates, the original author.

In all, at least 13 of the e-book's 26 chapters were lifted almost entirely word-for-word from other sources without attribution, according to this analysis from Ben Rothke, a senior security consultant for a p... Read more

what's going on in microsoft, what does ms say about windows 8? are they happy, is windows 8 a success in the real world?

Answer:is windows 8 a success in the real world? (the enduser world?)

There is already a multi-page, several hundred post thread debating these very points. Do we really need to start up another one right now? How about posting in that thread, or at least waiting for it to die out before firing up another "Let's Debate Windows 8!" cat fight.

Well, hello there!

Thanks in advance for all suggestions/help with this process. My name is Sam, and my computer is an Acer Aspire 6920 running Vista. Okay, let's get started.

So, a couple days ago I updated my MalwareBytes software, and upon rebooting the computer I found that it took even longer than normal to boot up, and as soon as I hit pretty much anything on the start bar (like trying to quick launch my browser) I was met with a perpetual blue loading loop for a mouse. Super annoying. So I've run scans with Avira, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows CleanUp, a registry fixer, and I've defragged the computer, all with no luck.

So, I now turn to your infinite wisdom in assistance. Here's your HiJack log. It's up to you wizards now -- I'm at your mercy.

Thanks again,
Sam

I don't know the difference between an Application and a Program. Thought the Geektionary would help, but didn't find anything there.

I have 2 Dell Windows XP computers.

If I want to copy something such as Microsoft Money from one pc and install it on the other, what exactly do I need to copy? The application or the program?

And where do I find what I need to copy? :confused

Any help in this area is so appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Application vs. Program

Well basically an Application is an executable file such as Notepad.exe whereas a program can contain more than one application along with numerous other files such as DLL files.

Since the days when Windows had a registry it is far more difficult just to copy a program as it often has numerous entries in the registry which will point to locations of files within the program - this is why prgrams these days are generally installed. Only if the program contains a small number of files or is a self contained executable (such as Notepad which is both a program and an application rolleyes) can a program be copied.

Hope that's all clear. :confusedrolleyes

Unfortunately, I have no idea what to call it. But, I was googling, and ran across a website. It installed something apparently, because immediately, I started getting pop ups saying I was infected. Figuring that it was virus, I immediately closed everything. Then, all of a sudden icons in the bottom right tray of the desktop populated, looking like Windows Security Center, and notifying that there are viruses. Then, no matter what I tried to execute, explorer, windows explorer, Firefox, word, anything, it would not start, and a pop up in the tray came from the aforementioned icon, indicating that the virus was preventing the exe from running. Then, the desktop disappeared, and some sort of obviously fake virus remover popped up, asking for credit card information etc.

I am able to boot into "Safe Mode"

Hello,I recently received pop-up blockers that come up while I try to run an application. I am running Windows Vista. Typically the file name wuauclt.exe seems to be infected. There is a window which pops up and says "Application cannot be executed the wuauclt.exe is infected Do you want to run an anti spy-ware now" (paraphrased - not verbatim like so.) If you click "Yes" it redirects you to a page to buy some software but I am wary that that is fraud as well. I noticed in the forum that many people had posted the same problem.Per SuperDave's replies to other forum member's I am opening a new thread for this issue. As of now I cannot open/download or do anything at all on the computer. I am running in Safe Mode with Networking to post this thread. Sometimes IE will redirect itself to random malicious sites such as *censored*.com or *censored*.org Please help! If there is a need to download anything such as the Rkill.exe or the Hijackthis files please advise how to do that from safe mode because like I mentioned I cannot open anything in Normal mode.Thank you kindly

Hello,  I recently had a virus/spyware put on my computer.  At startup i am unable to use any programs click anything except the balloon windows that pop up on the menu bar.  It says "Application cannot be executed.  The file [RtvScan.exe] is infected.  I have seen a few threads about this, so I am hoping it is a regular thing and easy to solve.  I am also currently in safe mode.  I was informed to make my own thread to receive help.  So any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Help VIRUS removal: Application cannot be executed. The file *** is infected

Also, I tried downloading RKill, but it never actually kills any processes..it starts, then says its killing processes, then the log shows no processes that were killed.  Is this because I am running it in Safe Mode, and the malware is not running while in Safe Mode?

Hi

You most likely have malware on your PC judging by those file names, so running the below and attaching the logs requesed will be a start, then if the files are still their further removal instructions will be posted to aid you in removing any malware files including those two mentioned.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

I can load it and it seems to load fine (if I load another version and connect to the game server it gives me an error saying, "Client already connected").

When I look into Task Manager it is listed under processes, but not applications.

Please help.

I'm trying to execute an application (simulator) using a system call from my program. Once the application (simulator) starts, I want my program to perform certain tasks on the GUI of the simulator: fill in certain fields, start the simulation, collect the results, and close the application. In essence, I need to emulate the keyboard stokes on the GUI of the simulator using my C program. I must interface to the GUI since I only have the executable available to me. Can any one recommend a way to perform this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:How to interface an application's GUI with a C program

Ive never done it, but I'd recommend looking into sockets, you can send data between a host program and server program and such.

Hello can anyone please tell is there any back up software that can back up a particular application for me? For example, if there is any update for a software and i want to back up the software before updating it, is there any way to do so? I know i can back up the whole computer using Norton Ghost but what if i just want to back up a particular software?

Answer:Backup program for a particular application

Not generally doable. When programs are installed, they make changes in the registry of the computer and in various parts of the Windows operating system. Simply finding a program that will copy over the files, will not copy the registry changes or any other changes..it simply copies files. That is why people who try this run into problems. To date I know of no program that copies applications into a useful format to save. There are migration programs and imaging software etc, but nothing for single applications to my knowledge.

What is the worst legit program/application you've ever used in Windows? Exclude mention of antivirus and anti malware because there's already a popular thread about it on MT.

To moderators, please move this thread if I've posted it in the wrong place.

Answer:Worst program/application you've ever used

Backup software, it made me loose all backups, twice. First one "only" corrupted all files.

But the worst was the one from Google. I removed online files and upon sync, it removed local files. I had to redo everything.

I have sworn never to use any automatic backup software ever again, manual backups for me, only copy/paste locally or online.

Anyone using this HOT rated download, and will it have a direct or indirect benefit regarding popup or popunder ads? The screen shot looks pretty impressive. I'm already employing CCleaner for the drive.

Answer:CleanCache application/program

This is more of a question for the Software Forum.

Using this or CCleaner is not necesarily going to stop popups? It is not a popup stopper? It's a drive cleaner which will remove some items that could possibly be related to some problems you are having.

Hey guys, I realize that I am not the only person that has encountered this problem, as my research has shown. I tried to ready some similar posts and problems on this forum and others, but I seem to get stuck at certain steps. Here is my situation. Im on a Dell latitude d630 running windows vista. I fell asleep watching Dexter online and when I woke up there was a new looking Anti-Virus program on my task bar that i do not remember installing. The program showed hundreds of infections and was prompting me to delete only if i bought their antivirus. After realizing I could not delete these infections i tried to close the program and open my Malwarebytes Anti Malware and also Synamatec Antivirus. Both programs failed to open, and an error message bubbled off of the "Antivirus" icon. As soon as this happened I tried harder to download new antivirus and to get this off my comp. But no matter what I download, I am unable to install/open. I cannot open task manager, and recently new virus alerts have been popping up. One says i have an infiltration alert about trojans and password stealing attacks, and when I press stay unprotected www.*censored*.com pops up. I tried to fix this going off what you said to others, but I would appreciate a little one on one help to walk me through this, as each case may be different entirely. Thanks a lot!

Is it possible in Windows 7 (either via a windows feature or an add-on program) to password protect individual programs or software so that when you try to run the software you first need to provide a password? Please note this is not the same as UAC in Windows 7. I want to be able to lock down certain programs so that when a user tries to run the program (say Internet Explorer or Microsoft Access) they will be prompted for a password. This would be very handy in a shared user scenario. Is this possible via the group policy editor? Thanks!

Answer:Password protect an application or program

This is not supported by Windows but third party applications may provide this feature. Windows security doesn't work that way.Windows security is based on the users account and the groups it is a member of. This is in the files and folder security properties. Don't change anything here unless you know what you are doing.Note that if the user is using an admin account he can evade any and all restrictions you might impose.

My family computer is a desktop PC running Windows Vista with McAfee. I make sure to run all updates ASAP. My updates are current through yesterday. When I tried to update my computer this morning, the updates failed with an unknown error. "Error(s) found: code 80070103 Windows Update encountered an unknown error"

This morning, I turned on the computer to find that McAfee has been disabled, Windows Defender has been disabled, and that I cannot turn them back on. Additionally, I cannot run any programs. Invariably, I get the response "program.exe is not a valid Win32 application" regardless of whether I run the program from the C drive or a USB.

Neither Internet Explorer nor Firefox are working; I can only access the internet by opening windows explorer and typing an address into the address bar in that window.

I have tried running McAfee in safe mode, but get the same message. I tried the "repair computer" function when I boot the computer, but it insists that I have another drive attached (though I have unplugged the camera, flash drvie, external hard drive)... There is nothing attached (except for the keyboard and mouse). I have tried restoring my computer to a previous restore point only to be told by the computer that there are no restore points.

I started Googling and thought that it may be the Bagle virus because of the "is not a valid Win32 application" but found none of the files listed on the Removing Bagle Infections page... Read more

Step 2:
Make sure that you transfer the tools to the instructed directories given in the R & R Me FIRST
Both SAS & MBAM should be saved to C:\Downloads.. then installed to C:\Program Files
Once installed, open each application and update their definitions databases before running a "Quick scan".

Step 3:
Then re-name MGTools.exe to MGTools.com and see if it will run.

Step 4:
Attach these logs to your reply -

When logged in to a domain-based workstation under an admin account, if you install a program will this install under all the user accounts? If I recall correctly, I had an application that was installed on one user in the past, but not the others.

Also, what is the best way to install an application for one specific user and not the others?

Whenever installing an application/ program in the past, I always logged on to an admin account and subsequently installed the application. I am just curious if there are other options and if so, how to do it.

Hello all. I have myself a rather vexing issue going on with my operating system (XP x64 Edition SP2) that has me baffled, especially since it has survived an almost foolproof barrage of fixes.

Basically, I noticed very recently that one of my programs that requires an internet connection (P2P Program) is unable to connect to the internet, despite having worked fine for almost 2 years now. I blew it off at first, and when I went back again to try it I had the same problem. I ended up downloading another, similar program, and had that problem again. I noticed after this, that some of my games (and other applications) that require an internet connection to update and the like, also are now unable to connect to the internet to perform their functions. Even one of my malware scanners, which requires that it is up to date before being able to run, could not update itself (I manually updated it).

Not sure if this is relevant, but my clock was reset by itself to July 1st 2005, and after I manually reset it, it didn't change itself back (yet).

So in a nutshell, I did some research and found one other guy with a similar problem to my own, which he identified as a worm in his WINDOWS registry. He didn't specify how he removed it.

I've since run my anti-virus software (BitDefender), CCleaner, Ad-aware, Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, HijackThis, and SUPERAntiSpyware and I've had no luck. Malwarebytes discovered some potentially false positives ignored by Ad-aware and m... Read more

I?m using IE 7, Windows XP Professional,2002, Service pack 2.

Answer:application hang end program error

Ok first im gunna need to check how much RAM you have left avaliable do this by:
1. Go to Start and click Run
2. Type "dxdiag" and click OK
3. Click the Save ALL Information
4. On this forum you'll need to upload the file as a attachment. The file will probably be saved to your desktop and will be named "DxDiag.txt".

Attempt to uninstall (pre-installed) MS Picture It! Publisher 2001 over most of a day have failed. Removal from registry made no difference. Disk is required for removal. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance

Answer:Clean uninstall of program(application)

I take it you've already tried uninstalling it using add/remove programs. Try deleting all of the data files (C:\Program Files\Whatever it would be it) and then using add/remove programs.

I have a flash application running within a secure site. The program uses resources such as video clips and powerpoint presentations. Video clips work OK, but when I ask it to open a .ppt, a popup window appears briefly and then disappears again.
Popup blocker is disabled, and I don't have google or yahoo toolbars.
It's running in a trusted site with all the settings set to minimum security.
there is nothing wrong with the ppt - it runs perfectly on my pc, and from within my secure site.
And (perhaps crucially) it all works perfectly in Firefox!

This all leads me to conclude that there is a setting in IE7 that is wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what.

Can anybody help?
The ppt is one of the Resources within the SCORM-compliant "OCR PE AS level Teaching Support" from Heinemann. This is running as a course within the Fronter VLE. (Just on the off-chance that there is someone with specific knowledge of this!)

Thanks in advance.

Sue

I am relatively "new" to programming. I always have wondering how to develop a Windows client application and made it a stand alone program that install at the client computer with the "double click" (autoexec?) feature by following Windows standard installation instructions at screen. Can somebody please tell me how is that done and list some basic book references that shows me how to do that?

If I create an application with Access 2000, can I convert it to a standalone application that install and behave as explained above?

Thank you very much. It will sincerelly be appreciated.

Here's a strange problem.

I have AAA Map 'n' Go 7.0, running with WinMe.

When I exit the program, instead of getting the message that I used to get (I believe it was, "Save Changes to startup.mn7?"), I get the following message: "_______ startup.mn7?"

How do I reset the "_______" to "Save Changes to..."?

I have already uninstalled and re-installed the program, and that didn't solve the problem.

I'm troubleshooting a Windows XP (SP2) eMachine (with a fresh OS install on a new hard drive - no original eMachine software remains on the system) and I've never encountered such a persistent problem: certain applications (Fruit Loops, Adobe Acrobat Reader, among others) run fine after installation, but after a reboot they will not run. Their shortcuts, as well as the actual program executables, lose their original icons and are mysteriously changed to the generic window icon (the one Windows will use for a file type is doesn't recognize.) When I try to run these programs, using the desktop shortcut OR the actual executable, I get the error dialog box: "This program is not a valid Win32 application." This happens to several applications, while others (Pro Tools, Acid) remain unaffected and can be executed w/o any problem.
*Note: this computer is not connected to the Internet, so it is unlikely that this is some type of virus.

What could be causing this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have a split Access 2013 "application program?. This application program has a Front-end part that exists on each terminal within the network. The back-end part (the data) lives on the File server with Windows Server 2012. The front-end and back-ends are connected to each other with cat6 cable. This works great. What I now want to do is be able to walk outside to the end of my property with a portable computer and still be able to use this front end application program but without a wire. Assuming I have a wireless connection to the file server with good signal strength how do I link up the portables front end to the back end?

Which HP printer are you using?

If Windows XP detected and used its own drivers, you should download the up-to-date drivers. (hpzntp07.dll is a HP driver)

Also, when I try to open another application from my desktop icons or from my start up menu, it thinks and thinks and never opens. I can still work on the internet or anything that I may have open already. And the task manager does not list that those programs are running or trying to open.

I have PC tools Spyware Doctor also.

I have a broken laptop that has everything on it. I did back up to an
external hard drive Segate using the Bounce Back Express. When I get
my laptop fixed, I would like to transfer application/programs from laptop
to desktop, both have XP Professional. I know I will need program with
this data cable, but which one. My last questions would be can I transfer
programs/files with that program from a laptop with XP Professional to
Windows 7. Buying a new laptop within 10 days.
Please Advise.

Answer:Can anyone recommend a Application & file transfer program?

Transfering your files back depends on the method of how you have backed them up.
If you have done it using Bounce Back Express, maybe this application has option for restoring the files?

Also if you want to transfer application files from XP to Win 7 this will not work.
You will need to reinstall all applications on Windows 7 and then transfer your other files such as video, music, pictures etc.

Hello all. I have myself a rather vexing issue going on with my operating system (XP x64 Edition SP2) that has me baffled, especially since it has survived an almost foolproof barrage of fixes.

Basically, I noticed very recently that one of my programs that requires an internet connection is unable to connect to the internet, despite having worked fine for almost 2 years now.

I've since run my anti-virus software (BitDefender), CCleaner, Ad-aware, Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, HijackThis, and am currently scanning with SUPERAntiSpyware and I've had no luck. Malwarebytes discovered some potentially false positives ignored by Ad... Read more

Hello, this is my first time using this forum so I apologize if I do something wrong.

So normally, whenever I hover my mouse over a program located on the taskbar, I get a preview screen showing what is currently being viewed on that program. I can still get that, however, it never shows itself above the active program (last program I've clicked).

This happens with each and every program I have opened and tried. I tested the method of having the active program sitting in a place where it would only slightly conceal the preview (not maximized). Then having inactive programs (I've clicked on something else besides them last) behind the active one and the preview. Then I can see that that the preview will cover all inactive programs but the active program will still cover the preview.

I hope I've detailed what's happening well enough. I don't remember when this first started happening but I do know that it is not supposed to function like this. The preview should always be visible and on top no matter if there are active programs or not.

I also tried to get a picture of it happening, but it's kinda hard to take a picture of something that requires the active program to not hide itself (like snipping tool does).

Hi all,

My vista box is getting a little slow from time. Like everything freezes on the computer, and then I have to wait a little bit and it comes back. Often this happens when firefox has been used for a while. I'm not sure if this is firefox's entire fault, so I was wondering what free program is out there that I can use to monitor what application is accessing the disk. I tried googling but just found a bunch of hard drive monitoring (temperature, fail rate, etc.) programs.

Thanks,

Answer:application hard drive usage program

You should be able to use the resource monitor built into Windows to see what programs are writing to disk.

Third party utilities are available as well, such as ProcessMonitor and FileMonitor.

Hi all,

I'm having a rather strange issue that I haven't been able to trace, mostly because although the error itself makes sense to me, I have no idea what it means.

I'm using Windows XP pro, 32 bit with service pack 3 on an HP 8510W notebook. Recently I noticed that every time I closed a program, or a program exited properly, I received an error that looked something like this.

notepad.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x00bb1f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

iexplore.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x03051f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

taskmgr.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x009c1f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
And so on, with everything from Reaper to firefox to Task Manager. I've also noticed two other things, which are:
A. this error never occurs if I manually end the task from within task manager or tskill, only when the program legitimately exits.
B. The first hex value always changes, but the second value, the memory being referenced, always stays the same.

The other says modified 21st Jan 2005. There's no information for either in the 'summary' tab. I've done a full scan with Norton, Ad-Aware SE, A-Squared and Ewido and everythings coming up clean. I change something and save it. the file type is still cfg but now it always open with a notepad which coz my game to malfunction...so how do i remove the open with notepad and set it to a an unknown application..which my com don actually recognizes it and will prompt me to search the internet.

Answer:Changing open with default program to unknown application.

Press Start (the Windows icon on the bottom right), type regedit and press enter. Press Continue when the UAC thing pops up. Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes, find the .cfg key and delete it. This will reset it so when you open any cfg file it will ask you which program you want to open it with. You may have to restart your computer after completing the above steps.

You posted this in the wrong section by the way.

Hello,

I am writing this because I am seeking help with an Email related issue.

I am trying to use a program that retrieves Inbound Email attachments and resends them to a new destination… it is a dispatch program.

The Help Files associated with this program make reference to “The Attachment Folder” from “My Email Program”.

I am currently using Microsoft Outlook 2000 as my Email program although… I also have Outlook Express as an optional email program that I could use.

I would prefer to stay with Outlook 2000 though…
“if possible”.

I am enclosing an excerpt from the “Help” File associated with this program so you can see their exact reference to an “Attachment Folder from my Email Program”.

I have tried contacting The Program Manufacturers Tech. Support but as yet have not heard back from them.

I am looking for any advice or direction to be able to Locate and Identify this “Attachments Folder” in “my Email Program” that they make reference to.

If you can assist or advise me in any way I would appreciate it very much, as I am completely lost as to what to do next.

My Operating System is Windows 98SE.

Thank You
Respectfully

I tried using Auslogics Boostspeed trial version,
It's actually pretty cool 'cause it scans and shows how many junks files, registry errors, fragmented and disk errors there is, plus status if it's critical or whatsoever.
But since it's only a trial version, I can't fix/repair all of the errors.
the last time i checked showed that my computer doesn't have disk error but have other issues that need to be fixed. So i was wondering if there's such a program or i can manually check and fix stuff like this. Thanks in advance and have a nice day people^^

Answer:Is there a program/application(free) to scan and fix disk errors?

Windows has a built in disk checker. You can access it by right clicking on your drive and choosing "properties", then "tools" then "error-checking".

You can also run it from a command prompt.

You can also download disk utilities from your drive manufacturer's web site.

Try this fix: EXEFIX

Unzip the fix and extract the .REG file to the Desktop. Right-click the .REG file and choose Merge. Note that you need to be an Administrator to apply this fix.

Reboot the computer.

If the fix only opens as a text file, right-click it and select Open With > Choose Program... Then, select the Registry Editor.

If the Registry Editor is not in the list, browse to C:\WINDOWS and select regedit.

Hello,I am looking for a program capable of redirecting ALL current internet speed only to one application, ensuring it works possibly as good as it should. So far I only found programmes meant to limit the applications speed, which is theoreticaly the opposite of what I am looking for.I would LOVE you guys to reply to me with ANY ideas because I am trying to fix a problem that none have yet solved. If you want to read more about the problem, head here http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=138954.0 and maybe you could help me to solve it, if not, staying here will be appreciated too. Thanks and best regards,

Answer:A program for maximising internet priority to only one selected application

You could use almost any firewall product to accomplish this. Even Windows Firewall should allow for this type of management. If you turned on the limitation for the entire PC and then permitted the one application for full access, wouldn't that accomplish what you are trying to do?
