I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use IE7 and windows XP. Today, both computers on my network would not open my Google homepage or google Search. I can get to anywhere else on the INTERNET except to google. When I try to sign in, I get a window that says " internet exploer cannot open http://www.google.com/. It says operation aborted. If I hit the O.K. button it tries to come up again and I get "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage". Again I can go anywhere else except to google. All was well until about noon today. Any ideas?...Charlie

Hi,

My google web site has been hijacked. The web page logo is mispelled as Googl (missing the last e). When I do a search, a new page opens up with upspiral.com and redzip.com as the top two hits.

I performed all the antivirus, spy-ware, and stand alone remover scans (normal & safe mode) as suggested on:

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

but it has not helped. I've attached a log file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch, James

Answer:help, computer hijacked (google becomes googl)

First, Close ALL browsers while running HJT!

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

Second, Please EXTRACT HijackThis from the ZIP File to a Safer location. Here's how:

To create a new folder:
Click START > My Computer > Local Disc C: > Program Files
Now, RightClick on an Empty Area and select New > Folder & name it HijackThis and ENTER

To Extract HijackThis:
Now, Right Click your HijackThis ZIP File and select Extract All > Next > and browse to your newly created HijackThis Folder
(C:\Program Files\HJT) and click Next.

Now run HJT from there. Please save your HJT Log as a .txt File and attach it via the "Manage Attachments" tool in the Additional Options section when you post.

The reason HJT needs its own safe folder is so that backups will be safely preserved. That way, if a mistake is made in the removal process, the mistakenly deleted entry can be restored.

Third, Attach another HJT log from Normal Mode!

I don't know why I am getting Yahoo results when I type into Googl's address bar. It no longer gives me Google Results.

Google is my default search in that I typed in the Google search bar google.com/google.reg

I use to have Google in my address bar and got Google results , but now it's Yahoo's search results fromm the address bar.

How do I get Google back into the address bar search ?

I use to type a word into firefox address bar and it would automatically add http://www. whatever , and go without my clicking the "GO" button. and it gave me google results. but it no longer does. I have to type it in. When I just type a word into Google address bar , it gives the results fromm Yahoo.

Please help. I want Google back into my address bar.

Thanks

Hi can someone please help clear up my concerns because I accidentally interned the wrong DNS address on my new router.
After entering this typo I almost immediately that my connection was unstable especially on Linux and yesterday evening when I logged back into my router the DNS settings were set to there defaults. But I was able to surf the web kinda in Windows though it timed out often and certain webpages wouldn't even open, and now when ever I enter the correct DNS settings it disconnects from the internet.

Here's what I entered

222.67.222.222
220.67.220.220

Instead of

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

I'm really feeling uneasy and stressed about this, any advice?

Why does stuff like this happen whenever your in poor health or any other of life's trials and complications?

Answer:Open DNS typo on router

Two things you might check:

1. In Windows, do your Network Properties have a DNS Server entry(s) that point(s) to your router (probably 192.168.1.1 or close) or do they point to the published OpenDNS IP addresses? Easy check: From an Elevated Command Prompt: ipconfig /all

2. After you corrected the DNS router entries, did you have the router do a cold reboot?

I believe you shouldn't overly stress yourself over this if you didn't make any financial transactions. But new passwords could be needed.

NAME: Googkle
ALIAS: Googkle.com

Summary

F-Secure staff has found a malicious website that utilizes a spelling error when typing the name of the popular search engine - 'Google.com'. If a user opens a malicious website, his/her computer gets hijacked - a lot of different malware gets automatically downloaded and installed: trojan droppers, trojan downloaders, backdoors, a proxy trojan and a spying trojan. Also a few adware-related files are installed.

The name of the malicious website is 'Googkle.com'. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS WEBSITE! Otherwise your computer will get infected! We have reported the case to the authorities.

Detailed Description

Our investigation revealed that the whole infection starts from the 'googkle.com' website. This website, as well as a few related websites are owned by people with Russian names. Also several malicious files that are downloaded from these websites have Russian texts.

When the 'googkle.com' is opened in a browser, it shows 2 popup windows that are linked to the following websites:

www ntsearch.com
toolbarpartner.com

The 'ntsearch.com' website downloads and runs the 'pop.chm' file and the 'toolbarpartner.com' website downloads and runs the 'ddfs.chm' file. Both files are downloaded using exploits and they contain exploits themselves to run embedded executable files. One of the webpages of the 'toolbarpartner.com... Read more

for your information:

Spyware authors and phishing fraudsters yanked an old scam out of the playbook Wednesday by directing malicious code at Internet users who may be prone to typing or spelling deficiencies, according to security researchers.

Finnish security firm F-Secure said they discovered an attack aimed at Web surfers attempting to land on Google's (Quote, Chart) homepage, but who may have mistyped the Web address.

Internet users who punch in "Googkle.com" are treated to a host malicious code, as the computer gets slammed with a heap of the unwanted software that is automatically downloaded and installed. The malware includes: Trojan droppers, Trojan downloaders, backdoors, a proxy Trojan and a spying Trojan. A few adware-related files are also installed, the firm said.

Hi,

firefox 3.0.4 acts weird:

1)
each time it is started a desktop shortcut for it gets created within a minute (the shortcut seems to be OK, it does link to firefox.exe at the correct place).

2)
sometimes (not always) clicking on a search result link on google leads to google.at instead of the result's URL.

3)
it shows some "dead" bookmarks which contain no URLS or any other information and cannot be deleted.

Removing/reinstalling firefox and deleting/creating a new firefox profile did not help.

Additional "solved" problem:

Additionally to the above problem I was not able to access my hard discs via "my computer" and got the error message "resycler/boot.com" is not a valid win32 operation".

Windows Search did not find those files/folders. "XP-Suche" (german search tool) did: Suspicious autorun.inf files and "resycler/boot.com" folders in the harddisks roots which I deleted and now the dics are accessible by "my computer" again.

This did not solve the firefox issue however.

Spybot / Ad-Aware / Avira did report until I removed those files and don't show anything now.

gmer+dds log files below.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers, Peter

PS: sorry for the english... I live in Austria and speak mostly german :)

Is it possible to delete the search history on Google?. Every time I click on a search or even a letter a dropdown menu appears with a history of everything that has ever been sought beginning with that letter. I find it irritating but can't seem to find out how to delete this menu. I tried the preferences tab and deleted internet history and temporary internet files but this still hasn't cleared it. Can anyone explain how to get rid of this menu?.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:How can I delete my search history in Google

Are you talking about the google search box, where you type in your query? If so you can double click in the box and all the search terms will appear in a drop down menu, you can delete them one by one using the keyboard delete key. If there are many, you can,in IE7 click tools menu and internet options, in the dialogue that opens, on the front (general) tab, under browsing history, click delete, and choose web forms and delete them from there.(warning... you will also lose any other form data, like your name and address from website forms.)In IE6 the option is on the content tab, and autocomplete.(If I remember rightly!)

Hi Friends,
I started using the new web browser Chrome by Google but I can't figure out how to delete search history.

Thanks,

Answer:How to delete search history in google chrome?

Clear your browsing history to delete the following information from Google Chrome and your computer:

Web addresses you've visited, listed on the History page
Cached text of those pages
Snapshots of those pages for images that appear on the New Tab page
Any IP addresses pre-fetched from those pages (learn more about DNS pre-fetching)
Clear history for a specific day

Click the Tools menu. If you're using a Mac and the menu isn't visible on the toolbar, select History on the menu bar.
Select History.
Click Delete history for this day for the day you want to clear.
Clear history for a longer period of time

Windows and Linux instructions

Click the Tools menu.
Select Options.
Click the Under the Hood tab.
Click Clear browsing data.
Select the "Clear browsing history" checkbox.
Use the "Clear data from this period" menu to select the amount of data you want to delete.

Hello all, every once in a while when i use google.com as a search engine i see my previous search history. Its like a 'drop down menu' of all my prevous searches from using google's search engine. I am using Opera 8.02 web browser.

My normal thoughts on clearing the google search history is the usual

1) Delete cookies
2) Delete files
3) Delete history
4) Delete cached pages/info
4) Run Adaware
5) Run Spybot

If i do all the 5 steps listed above.. it does not work.
This Brings Me To The Next Question.

How does one activate that 'drop down menu' of history of google searches?
I always do this by accident. If i knew how to active it, i can try different methods of problem solving.

I took a screenshot, but I will not be able to post it for a couple of hours.
Thanks for your help with these 2 problems i am having.
Have any questions? Please ask me

I read the previous post and followed the instructions. No luck. I went through my registry and deleted all mentions of Google in the hope that would help. I can now access Google maps but not google search. I have used AVG to fix registry problems. I have deleted the programs where I could find them. I was working on the theory that I could always reinstall google. I have also used the microsoft 'Fix It" for IE in case that could help.

I do hope someone can help me sort this out. It was working fine. I did not install any new software. According to AVG I do not have any viruses.

When I pinged google.com, all I got was the information that four packets were sent with no loss to 74.125.237.8 When I pinged Google.com.au I got the same message for 74.125.237.31

Answer:How do I delete search history in dropdown list on google home page?

I believe in internet explorer, in the internet options, set the history to fewer days, to keep a shorter list, thing is it applies to all history so it would shorten the history for all visited sites. But it does leave your password manager untouched.

Hi,

I am having a problem when i misspell URLs.

When i type things like google.con instead of .com, i am redirected to a host of different search sites, including searchathand.com, and daplaces.com. I am pretty sure i must be infected with something, but i have ran several online and offline spyware and malware scanners and nothing seems to find a problem.

I am running Firefox version 1.5.0.6, but the problem also occurs in IE as well.

Advise please!

Cheers

Joel

Edit: I seem to have found what i think is the culprit for this...but this leads to another problem.

There is a HJT entry stating
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{A2EA3617-0DD4-4C7B-89EC-1F1FB24D96E1}: NameServer = 85.255.114.7 85.255.112.174

I have removed this on a couple of occasions and it only returns a few minutes later.

Help please!!!

I've only just got Win7 so am still finding my way round but there's one annoying thing I haven't been able to sort in FF. Google refuses to open my search results in a new tab. Instead it opens on my home page. There's no option then to click the back button (it's greyed out) to return to my home page so I have to click the home button instead. This is most annoying since I have two home pages and each time they both appear and I end up having several pages of each.

I've been into Google Settings and checked the box that makes the search results open in a new browser window but either the preferences won't hold or Google ignores the command.

Can anyone help please?

Greetings Geeks.

It seems I cannot set Google to open search results in a new tab. There is only an option to set results as "Open Search Results in New Window." in the preferences page. I want clicked results to open in a new tab. What gives? I am using Firefox 3.6.6 under fully patched Vista.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:How Set Search Results To Open In A New Tab In Firefox Google?

Have you tried clicking using the mouse wheel(middle button click) on a link? I believe the Fx default when middle button clicking on a link, is to open the link in a new tab.

I have an annoying problem. when I search a topic on google.com, i get a lst of results, like always. BUT RECENTLY... when i click on 1 of the results, the next page looks like it's searching for that link, but it just stops ... goes blank(white), it shows "Done" on the bottom left (like it always did when a page WAS there), and it seems to revert to google.com in the top address bar.
I've cleared cache & cookies several times with no luck.
I'm using IE8 & windows XP.
I've since loaded Chrome browser & it seems to work OK with that ... I know IE8 is old but I prefer it.
Anyone know anything about this? Is it a malware problem? if so, is there a fix?
oh ... I'm not overly 'tech-savvy' .....thanks!

Answer:HELP - cannot open Google search result. Malware?

Have you tried resetting IE to default?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 , I'd just use the FixIt option.

When I 'google' a topic & get a list of results, I can
not open up any of the listed results.
When i click on any of the listed search results, the next page just goes blank, it shows "Done" down bottom left like always, and the address bar up top reverts back to google.com
I've cleared cookies & cache several times with no luck.
I'm using IE8 & windows xp.
I did load google chrome & it seems to work ok on that browser.
But i prefer IE8 & i think i'm infected.

Hi,

I was really tired the other day, had a popup on screen to insatall flash player! I clicked yes, and this didgy looking installer ran, Oh dear. Since then randomly if I do a google search, then click the link (in IE8) i get a new window with bizsearch in the address bar, then a orange arrow graphic on screen in the new window, then the page link from google, or a random link. If i close the new window, and click again sometimes it goes straight to the real page, other times it redirects!

Anyways here is my HJT log: Thanks in advance.

Hello all! Many thanks for your help with various issues (found from lurking) . I have an issue that I cannot seem to find an answer to with IE10. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium ( I really miss GPEDIT!)

Whenever I search for something in Google. I can click on the result I want to view, it will redirect me (within the same tab) to whatever was in the search I clicked on. As I surf... I will notice a tab has opened with a different result from that search, that I didn't even click on. I do not see when this happens, I just look up and there is an additional tab. This is most noticeable when I search by images.

I have ran Malwarebytes, Norton, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot, along with various root kits.. all show nothing. I have ran them in Safe Mode and regular in Full, Quick and Memory modes.

I'm at a total loss. I really doubt that a new tab would open by itself with a result (even though not clicked on) of a search I have done. It just seems that if it were infected it would be redirected to something off the wall or a website of some kind.

I've seen similar post with those using Firefox, but nothing that seems to be with IE.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Answer:Results from google search will randomly open tabs

AdwCleaner from the Bleeping Computer site would be my next choice.

Hi Neorican,

Click start>run and type in cmd.

In the black command prompt type 'sfc /scannow' - It will check your system files for tampering.

Run a virus scan as well just in case.

Hi all,

I'm really desperate, so hopefully someone has the answer for me. The problem began with Google that redirected to some weird (search) sites. So I ran every Spyware/malware/virus there is on the net (almost..) and not even one did found anything. Also ran rootkit tdsskiller but nothing. After all the tries there are some things changed:

It does not redirect anymore but:

- In chrome, google often does not show results, not after pressing enter or pushing the searchglass. Nothing. It keeps saying that Google Dynamics is not available. Even when I put settings to 'Always use Google dynamics searching'. It changes back automatically.

- In chrome google I can't open Ad links and sometimes no links out of the results. Nothing shows up when I click it, just blank white page.

- I had the same issues in IE, but it seems to work fine actually now.. not sure for how long.

- I can't run Microsoft Security Essentials and I cannot enable Windows Security Center. Although I did run this in Safe mode, did not found anything.

So after all the scans and programs I run, I tried Combofix but nothing changed. I will run it again for the log if someone needs it.

Please help me, thanks in advance.

Hi, I recently noticed some strange behavior in my computer so I scanned with Malwarebytes and found some infections, cleaned them out and all seems good...except that some of my Google search results will bring up a blank white page (also, if related, in the bar that appears at the bottom of Firefox, it will show the URL I am going to at first, and then change to a few random url's that seem like advertizing, though I never actually see those url's as the page stays white). I also have noticed occasional pop-ups that don't seem like advertizing from the website I am on at the time, and more like programed random pop-ups.Here is my Hijack This log:

When I use Google, the results appear to be correct but when I click on them, I am redirected to incorrect sites. The sites vary according to what I am searching for but are never the proper nor relevant sites. Additionally, an perhaps unconnected, when I open Internet Explorer, the window opens but then shuts down.

Recently a malware has infected my laptop and it makes web browsing reasonably slow (especially loading sites). I have ADSL2+ it's pretty fast before this infection. Here are the symptoms:1. I use Firefox 3.0.11 and my home page is the default Firefox google page. When I open up the browser it trys to find the homepage for a while but fails giving the "Redirect Loop" error. 2. When I do a google search and try to open a link, the window will re direct it to another site (completely different from the URL displayed in the search results) first it used to redirect me to a random MySpace page and then to you tube. but now it's erratic. About a month ago my google searches began redirecting to sites like results.overture.com and googleadservices.com, on the first click and then working on the second click.

I also have occasional pop ups requesting permission to allow the "online protection tool" from Microsoft, it just doesn't look or sound right though.

I'm using Vista on an HP laptop, and went so far as to do a system restore(using f11 on startup), which I think is an HP feature below the windows system.
I don't know how, but somehow the bug is still with me. Both the redirect and the pop up persist. I'm running Norton Internet Security 2010 (trial version) since the start up. Was using Avast before, but I don't think it was automatically scanning and I wasn't really concious of it.

I'll attach my logs below, any help will be much appreciated. If it means anything, I find it strangely inspiring that there are people out there, on their computers, who choose to spend their free time debugging other peoples computers.

Getting used to Vista home premium but can't solve one feature.
If I type my name, for instance, into the "start search" feature just above the windows start button in the bottom left hand corner of the task bar, it lists all files, programmes and communications that have contained my name - even the ones I've deleted and also dumped out of the rubbish bin or moved to a flash/pen drive.
How do I get rid of this unwanted history please ?

Hi. After I hang up from a session online my modem won't turn off. It thinks it is still connected. When I try to dial up later I get the message "hardware error 630". When I try to run the diagnostic on the modem it tells me that the port is already open. I have to reboot every time which is a major PITA! I read about a similar problem in the archives from Aug '99 but the conclusion reached there is that the modem is "toast". Mine still works fine after rebooting. Any help? Thanks

Answer:modem port remains open

While not connected to the internet (before having the problem) open Control Panel, go into the Modems applet, go to the Diagnostics tab, select the appropriate COM port and hit the [More Info...] button. Does it return any errors?
Wether or not it does, it could very well be that your modem is dying and is only failing to release the port so far. Before replacing it, however, I'd try pulling the drivers and reinstalling them.
It could also be something about dial-up networking not realizing that it should release the port since the connection has been terminated. Try recreating your DUN connection (let us know if you need help) and if that fails, pull DUN (Dial Up Networking) in the Windows Setup portion of the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel and then, after reboot, add it back in.

Google is a search engine. Every time you do an internet search on Google it saves a temp file. To delete temp files safely, download CCleaner. Analyze your drive with no browsers open and Run Cleaner.

Hello and thanks for taking the time to help me out. I am helping a friend clean their machine (WinXP) and it had some problems. Windows xp Recovery virus for starters, which using RKill I followed by an Malware-bytes scan cleared up. But I found a redirect virus that took me to a phishing site, ran RKill, MB, and Eset SS and both scans found and removed items. Thinking I had cleaned it up I verified with more scans which came up clean. However, upon showing my friend his 'clean' machine, the redirect virus pops up and takes me to another phishing site. So I have come to prostrate myself before the BC gods, ask forgiveness and please help me?

anyone have the answer to this? had a desktop infected with search conduit of some vintage.
cleared the infection except for one remaining issue that I cannot find a cure for: irrespective of what browser I use, any attempts to reach a google domain of any sort results in a SSL "Certificate has expired" block. I take this to be legit: that any common google domain entering into the dns lookup gets intercepted and rerouted to a compromised pass-through.

I would think that uninstalling chrome, for instance, and reinstalling would fix it for chrome, but not if there's a dns hijack going on. but its the only set of domains being monkeyed with...
everything else about the PC works fine. no issues. no other web redirects.
no problems with onboard/local programs & such.

any help?

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.

The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.

Greetings,My son browsed to a website this past weekend (October 17th @ 12:07am) that contained a malicious ad that attempted a driveby install of SmitFraud on our Dell laptop via an old Adobe Reader exploit (now updated to v9.2.0 ). Even though our A/V blocked most of the installation, some damage was done. I've cleaned up the damage to the point where all of the tools that I run (MBAM, SAS, Spybot, MWMSRT, etc) report a completely clean system. But the system isn't clean. A rootkit or browser hijack remains that usually redirects Google search results to A/V, spyware and search engine sites. Most of these redirects then proceed to attempt to connect to an "r3953724.cn" site (see attached url.txt file for the full address). This attempted connection is never successful.I've tried everything I can think of to cleanup this problem, and am now admitting defeat. First of all, sorry for my English, it's not my mother language.

I am using window XP sp2 32bit and in this thread, i am asking for help about BitTorrent. I use forum's searching function and know that asking for help about P2P file sharing is against forum's rules, but please understand the situation, i will not ask anything about BitTorrent "deep" function. If it's really bashing the rules, please consider it as a program, not BitTorrent. Please help me.

My laptop have problem with playing mp4 file (the color is not right) so i update my K Lite Codec to the latest version (8.7) then some old version of KLC (because the problem is still not solved, right now i'm using KLC 8.7, i will talk about the problem in another thread) During installing process, i got some notice about registry (invalid, missing...) but they were all about KLC.

Stoping at KLC 8.7, i restart my laptop and bam, error window appears (BitTorrent has encountered a prolem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience) After that, when i open BitTorrent program or any .torrent file, or even trying to delete the program in Control Panel-Add/Remove Program, the same error window appears. I don't know how this error happens and how to fix it, please help me.

Thank you very much.

Hi all -

Somehow my father has managed to get something on his computer that is bunging up his system. When I search for something on Google, it appears to return valid sites, but the URL listed under the search results are NOT the correct urls for the sites. (See attached JPG for example)

I've downloaded and run FixWareout, then Hijack This, then winpfind3u.exe (as was advised in several threads I've seen before.) Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to read them. Could someone read the files (attached) and let me know what I should do at this point?

Thanks!

On my Google Calendar, there are two events (titled "My Birthday" and "Happy Birthday") that both have a cake icon and are highlighted in yellow. On my calendar key, "Contacts' birthdays and events" is yellow. I can't figure out how to delete them! On Thunderbird, where it syncs to, I can't delete it. This is really annoying because it has a reminder set that I can't remove. It opens a box to remind me every 5-10 minutes, and it's really frustrating!

Hi there,

So I require some assistance removing the remains of the Trovi bug.

I followed all instructions here: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/trovi-com-removal/

Then followed instructions from this thread: http://malwaretips.com/threads/trovi-keeps-coming-back.30052/

_____________________

After those steps I realized the user in the second link was right; when you log in, the bug comes back. So I used all the remove tools, and then deleted Google Chrome, to find out that all the malware programs were finding NO bugs. After re-installing Google Chrome one bug keeps on coming back and still running my Chrome experience via homepage shifting and it seems to be running slower. Yes, I have attempted to change settings in Chrome but to no avail the Trovi restores the settings to the awful Trovi way.

Please help me, I feel so foolish for downloading a MKV - MP4 converter from CNET, which at the bottom had warnings from people not to download it and that there was malware in it (Obviously I saw this after it downloaded because I trusted CNET, foolish.)

Attached are the FRST and ADDITION .txt files.

Thanks!

I have been using google for web searches for years, but never have had this problem before. When I initiated a search a couple days ago, the web page refreshed but there was nothing on the page. When I clicked compatibility mode then the google bar showed at the top, the gooooooooogle page changer was just under the bar, but there are not any search results. I have run several different virus and malware scans, used a registry cleaner, checked to make sure refresh was enabled in IE settings. I don't know what else to do. Please help.

I have two systems, an older AMD system and a brand new Pentium dual core. Both run XP Pro.

In Google when entering search details, Google helpfully offers a list of previous searches starting with the same characters.

This doesn't happen on the new system and I can't for the life of me discover how to correct this.

Any ideas anybody?

Answer:Solved: google search

Hi Lilaco,

Point to tools, Internet options, from there, you will get this message on top: to create homepage tab, type each address on it own line.
Highlight the text there and type in www.Google.com
Click Apply button and then OK.
Prevent program from changing your search default, on the internet options, move your eyes down you will see: "change search default" click on settings.
click on your google search which you want to be your default search menu, look at the bottom of that page, check the box for "prevent the programs from suggesting search to my default search provider".

that will help you out.

Weird issue.
Running Internet Explorer 8.
I have Google set as default seach engine.
When I do a seach, regardless of what I search for, the box shows up with "%s" in the search box.
Anyone else experience this?

I am trying to help a friend find some program files.

Unfortunately, she has Google Desktop Search [ GDS ] installed.

How can I use Vista's search utility? Do I need to uninstall GDS?

Can GDS be disabled while in Vista's normal mode?

Will GDS be disabled in safe mode.

I do NOT use GDS because I think it is a resource hog.

Please tell me how I can help her find files.

Thanks.

When I type anything into a Google seach I get the following. I cannot simply type google.com into the address bar either. help. please.
This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect
securely to www.google.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely,
sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are
going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to
this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is
trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

I have Windows XP & Internet Explorer 8. It used to be I could type in a single letter into the Google search box and there would be a drop down of several choices. If I added a letter there would naturally be more choices. That is all gone now.
Is there a way to restore that? I uninstalled and reinstalkled the Google tool bar with no luck. Any suggestions?
Thanks, John

Recently - I mean, like, in the last few days - there is no longer a Google Search Preference, do you have to put up with Google suggestions. I wonder now if I cannot remove the Google search restrictions that I used to be able to do on the serch preferences page. Does anyone know where it has gone, or how to get it back?
