Problem with Verizon Internet Suite

Question: Problem with Verizon Internet Suite

I found only one other posting that related to my problem. He had all the same problems as me which was:

"My operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Home.

Getting my internet service installed by Verizon has been a hassle. I thought I was in the process of activating my account yesterday, but something went wrong. I apparently cleared everything up with Verizon, but as a result of the partial activation process I went through, I downloaded Verizon Internet Security Suite (VISS). But halfway through downloading it, there was an error, and so I don't think it was completely downloaded.

Now that I must go through the whole activation process again next week, I have been trying to remove everything I downloaded. But when I tried using "Add or Remove Programs" to remove Verizon Internet Security Suite (hereafter VISS), I was informed that I had to reboot first. Well, I rebooted my computer, and tried again. But again I was told I had to reboot first. So I tried deleting the entire Verizon folder on my hard drive, but it wouldn't let me, saying: "Cannot delete AVCntxtR.dll: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently is use."

Furthermore, I cannot open "My Computer" on my desktop, nor can I click on "My Network Places" in the Start menu. When I do, I receive this message: "Cannot start this program, because the required component 'C:\Program Files\Verizon\Verizon Internet Security Suite\Resources\zk_en_US\CLB_Rsrc.dll' is missing. Please try re-installing this program." So, in order to access "My Computer," I must open Microsoft Word or another similar program, click "File," then "Open," then go to "My Computer." I can then access everything just fine.

Bottom line: I don't want VISS on my computer. I want to be able to access all the programs on my desktop. Please inform me how I can delete this program and get my computer running properly again. Thank you."
They solved his problem was buy doing a system restore. I tried that and it never was a successful restore. I've been having this problem since summer 07. so now i have some new programs but I still want VISS off because I think that is stopping me from running an important internet access agent that I need to use at school. Can i get some major help?...oh and another thing.. I have lost the ability to double click an icon to "open" it, it opens"a search page" instead. any ideas on that one?

Preferred Solution: Problem with Verizon Internet Suite

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'd suggest a system restore to before the mess started, then do NOT download the Verizon junk, there are better options!

I have Verizon Internet Security Suite, and after having so many problems with it, I am deciding to uninstall it. I cannot uninstall it because I get the message that the VISS needs to shutdown first. I cannot shutdown VISS for whatever reason, (don't even have a shutdown button) and after attempting to exit VISS I get a message saying I must restart my computer to install VISS. My computer most of the time then freezes up. How do I shutdown VISS and uninstall it? I've been searching the internet an Verizon website for several hours now and have had no luck.

Answer:Verizon Internet Security Suite

Open task manager and go to the processes tab, look for VISS in the process list, highlight it and hit the end task button, now try to uninstall the software.

I'm hoping someone can help me, I had Verizon Viruse & Internet Security. I canceled the program when I decide to go with AVG, but I cannot remove the Verizon's program from my computer. I have tried to do a Windows Install Clean Up but that still does not work. Will this be a problem for my current Viruse program in the long run. My Computer System is Windows 98, Second Edition.

Answer:Removel of Verizon Internet Security Suite

Did you use Add/Remove programs to uninstall it in the first place?
Did you ask Verizon why their software does not uninstall?

You could give the below a try but it may not remove all of it if there are system services involved:

Your Uninstaller! 2006

These really is not a malware issue.

Good afternoon all.

I'm in a little quandry right now. I have an issue with my new custom-built machine (see spec below), where it freezes right after logon only on cold boots. On warm boots it works fine. Long story short, I ran cCleaner and Verizon's Internet Security Suite stopped working. So, I uninstalled it and ran cCleaner twice again. I cold-booted the machine and .... no problem.

I'm wondering if I should use AVG rather than the Verizon product. I had gone with Verizon originally because the prior version was lean, mean and never had any problems. The current version 6.03 ... has become more Norton/McAffee-like, meaning: slow, and probably causing all manner of problems. Note that I do have the Verizon product on an AMD-based laptop and it functions fine.

Right now, I'm using nothing, but I don't want to do that for two long. Thanks much.

Here is the hardware Spec:

XFX 790i mobo
4 GB OCZ DDR3 (tested with MS's RAM diagnostics and no errors).
Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz Processor
CoolIT Eliminator CPU cooler
Two Palit 1-GB NVIDIA 9600 video cards with SLI enabled
Two Seagage 750 GB SATA Drives
One LiteOn DVD Burner (IDE)
One Artec CD Burner (IDE)
ONe Ultra Card Reader with USB Hub and Firewire
CH Pro Flight Sim Yoke and Rudder Pedals

Software:

MSIE 7.0

MS Office Enterprise 2007 latest Service Packs and fixes
DocuDesk
Adobe Reader

Answer:Avg Vs. Verizon Internet Security Suite (radialpoint)

Update to this. I nosed around the site and saw some excellent freeware applications. For now, I'm running AVG free, Comodo, Spybot Search and Destroy and Hitware Lite for my antivirus, firewall, anti-spyware, and anti-pop-up solution. I'm taking a bit of a performance hit -- mostly from Spybot -- but my cold boot this morning did not immediately lockup. It did lock after 10 minutes though. AVG found and isolated a virus on my external disk, so for now I'm running a scan against my machine to see anything else is found.

What's interesting is that this free software found a virus. Meanwhile software that I've been paying for on a subscription and that is updated every three hours could not. And the computer was locking on cold boots at login every time the paid program initiated.

I am trying to remove my Verizon Internet Security Suite. I go to control panel, add/remove programs, click on VISS/remove and I always get a pop up window that says "VISS has experienced a problem and needs to shut down. We are sorry..." I am unable to do anything else. No matter what I do I always get the same pop up window and that's as far as I get. Any suggestions on how to remove this program would be greatly appreciated!

On monday morning i noticed my verizon security suite wasn't running, after calling for support and trying to download a new security suite from fairpoint ,the tech was unable to download the new program and finally told me it was not there problem and for me to call dell.after the tech finished with me ,thats when i realized there was many things that weren't working on my pc.i can't open certain areas and it wont download at all.just looking for some answers, please,
Thank you

Answer:my computer won't uninstall verizon internet security suite

Dear swami22,
You seem to have recognized three probs.
1) Uninstalling the security suite. Download Revo uninstaller(it's free) and use it judiciously.
2)unable to open some sites. Kindly run a scan for spyware, Malware and Viruses. Let us know what A-V you have.
3)Unable to download. Check whether you are the administrator. A simple trick: If you need to quickly tell if the person currently logged onto a PC is a local administrator of the windows server, right click on the START button. If you see "Open All Users" rather than just "Open," the account is in the local Administrators group.
Best wishes.

I'm going to make the switch from comcast - I'm tired of paying $50/month, and I really wont care about going from 6 to 3Mbps.
Does anyone know what AV etc they offer? Comcast gives McAfee.

Answer:What Security Suite Does Verizon Use?

Chances are, whatever they give you, you'll find some free alternatives that are better anyway.

For the last couple days there has been an application called Security Service Communication Facilitator running. It has the same verizon box as the security suite. I never had this before and when I end task, it shuts down security suite. When I turn SS back on, that app runs again. It falls under the RPS.EXE in processes. I got tech support from radial point today, but when the tech was done and said I could go on my computer, I looked in task manager and there is was still. Verizon told me it was a virus.

Has anyone heard of this because I can't find anything when I google it other than a few other VSS users having the same issue.

Answer:Verizon Security Suite virus

You said you have Verizon and you're using Radial Point. RPS = Radial Point Security (or Radial Point Software). Thus RPS.exe is just part of your security suite from Verizon.

I have owned the suite for awhile and the bill has gotten paid every month yet now, even when I uninstall and reinstall it, it acts as if I still need to order it. The thing is I already have. I checked my service online and it still is there. The connection if fine and I tested its diagnostic. The suite does not has a way of signing in that I could find. I have no clue why this occurred. I am hoping I can avoid calling tech support although that seems unlikely.

Answer:Verizon Security Suite Acting as if I didn't buy it.

Hi

I would call their tech support as likely authentication is done at their end, the application likely connects to the net and checks with your account that its paid for, possible glitch their end.

Soooo hopefully someone can assist me because talking to someone from Verizon doesn't seem to help neither does speaking to the VOIP provider RingCentral. I have Verizon Fios internet with their G1100 router. I cannot all of a sudden hear voip calls when using Fios internet. This issue only happens with The Fios internet. I am not sure how to fix this. Any help is appreciated. The box has a coax and a Ethernet cable coming from their ONT. I can't seem to use just the ethernet cable from the ONT into a computer.

I have a Verizon Mobile Broadband USB760 Card which is connected to a Windows 7 Laptop. The mobile broadband device is shared with the local area connection on Internet Connection Sharing tab under properties of the mobile broadband device. The Ethernet cable is going to the WAN port of a Netgear WNR2000 wireless router. I have set the basic setting screen of the router webpage to the same ip addresses, dns servers, subnet masks, and gateway of the laptop. The ip address of the local area connection of the laptop is 169.254.25.143 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. These settings are automatically acquired from the TCP/IP version 4 protocol. The WAN IP address for the router is 169.254.25.144 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. The DNS server and the gateway setting of the router are both set to 169.254.25.143.

The problem that I am having is that a week ago it worked perfectly but now it does not work at all. I have not changed any settings on the router or the laptop. I have also checked to make sure the device was still shared with the local area connection. What I have noticed is that only www.google.com will load. Attempting to load another website will just say waiting for www.?.com. The ? is any websites that I attempt to load like live.com, xbox.com, yahoo.com, or facebook.com. Also, any webpage will load on the laptop which the mobile broadband device is connected to. So, I do not know if it is the Internet Connection Sharing service or the settings of the router.

i just recently got broadband and was previously running on a 56k modem.
i also got a new computer at the time and someone installed Kaspersky Internet Security Suite onto it. i thought everything was good because the broadband was running really fast for a couple of days, but starting yesterday it began to run slower. i had no idea what was causing this (i have no knowledge of computers) but now my internet is only barely faster than a 56k connection.

i went into windows task manager and realised that the file avp.exe was occasionally taking up a lot of memory, so i ran a search on it and found out that it is infact a malicious program??

it is part of the Kaspersky Security so should i just uninstall the whole program and just ignore internet security??
the only time i ever download anything is from official sites and from itunes, i don't use Limewire or anything and i receive about 4 emails a month. so do i even need internet security or will my computer still be at risk.

i know all of this probably sounds retarded but please could somebody help me. i am clueless about this and it's lucky i found this forum.

if it's any help i am also using firefox.

thanks in advance.

Hey all,

Got infected with Antivirus Suite recently, used malwarebytes (in safe mode) which found and removed several infected files, then said that a restart was necessary to completely remove the infections. Upon restart, Local Area Connection is stuck on "acquiring IP address" and never connects.

Booted up with Ubuntu Live CD and was able to connect to internet, so the problem is definitely virus-related.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Hi.Can anybody out there help me?All was well with my pC until shortly after installing Mcafee Security Suite 2007. I now continualy get an error message that reads SAService Application has encountered a problemand needs to close. If anyone uot there knows what is causing the problem and is able to recommend how to resolve it I would be grateful.I run XP home edition.Thank you.Leadwellie.

Answer:Problem with Mcafee Internet Security Suite 2007

Hi leadwellieI ran the 2006 suite with endless problems and at the end of the day was glad to be rid of it but during that time never got a reference to SAService application.I've just had a look at the Mcafee site and notice that Site Advisor (could that be SAService application) is now integral with the 2007 suite. It was not in the 2006 suite. You could try uninstalling just the site advisor element to see if that has any effect. You should,in fact be able to uninstall and reinstall each element of the suite separately.Sorry to say I found the suite overbloated with elements I did not need.It would continually have activeX problems and it added about eight items to my start up menu which really slowed things down.

Hi All,
I have Zone Alarm Pro as my firewall, and Norton 2003 as my Anti virus. I probably should update my anti virus but was thinking about purchasing the Zone Alarm Security Suite and then add a spyware program. The one thing I do have trouble dealing with, using Zone Alarm Pro is that I use a VPN to login to my employer's client systems (different IPs depending on the client's sites). I can't have Zone Alarm Pro up and running when I login. I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to firewalls and because I'm a contractor I do not receive much help from the employer so not sure if Norton Security Suite would be a little more user friendly when it comes to adding IPs that I login to.

Any opinions on ZA or Norton SS would be greatly appreciated, as well as any input with using VPN with firewalls.

Thanks in advance,

MB

I woul keep Zone Alarm Pro. Was posted someplace thatwith Zone Alarm Security Suite so of the options of Zone Alarm Pro are not the same so that Zone Alarm Pro alone is better.

Quick question for you guys.

I am using verizon high speed internet. Not vios. I do not want to use the verizon software to get online. I have a netgear pci card and I rather use that software to get online. But for some reason its not finding my network. Whats wrong with that?

Pretty much I want to access my internet on netgear software NOT verizon wifi software. how do I do this

Answer:Verizon Internet

Do not install the unwanted software, or make sure it is not running. If this is Windows XP also make sure WZC is not running. Then use the Netgear utility.

Also I get page cannot be found, or opened, or something, alot more than I used to.
A side note: Do I need more software downloads to be current or is this due to Vorizion.
Not trying to trash Vorizion here, just wondering if it was me,or them.

Anyone have any experience with verizon's mobile internet? Is it reliable? How are the speeds? What about in remote areas? Should we wait for WiMax, or is that far away enough that a 2yr contract won't be annoying? Or is there a 1yr contract they don't talk about?

They adverstise $59.99, but knowing telecoms there are a ton of other fees, so I'm wondering what your true monthly cost is. We are trying to compare this to the $40/mo we are currently paying for wireless hot spots.

The big question: If you get two of these wireless pc cards, can two people use the account? Of course both of you can't log in at the same time, but one at a time?

Thanks for you input!

I was thinking about switching seeing thats its wireless and just uses a usb stick, no wires. Right now i am using hard wired internet at 10meg. I would like to keep the same speed would i be better off just going with a wireless router or going the Verizon route?

Answer:Anybody use Verizon Home Internet?

Yea, I've a friend with Verizon and it's ok, but consider this:

any wired connection to a modem and/or router is better than WiFi
any WiFi will be less secure and bandwidth will suffer
Use a PC-WiFi connection to YOUR router only when there is no other choice.

The FiOS connection is great,
the DSL choice is S L O W in comparison
and a WiFi only connection (eg satellite) is even worse.

Answer:Verizon Internet Keeps on Disconnecting

I think you certainly ought to be running a firewall like free Sygate Personal Firewall - click the colored link below if you don't have a hardware or software firewall.

Additionally, I'd contact your ISP's technical support phone line to address your connectivity issue.

My father recently switched to Verizon DSL. My sister installed it for him. There was a problem getting it to work that I know had something to do with the Norton Antivirus Software. I believe she manually went thru and uninstalled Norton, installed Verizon then reinstalled Norton. worked fine for a few weeks. Last week he installs and runs Spybot. He doesn't remember doing anything other than that. Now he can't get on the internet or get his email on outlook express. there is a connection, verizon was able to ping his computer and we could ping theirs. Spent 2 hours with tech support trying to figure out what could be preventing his computer from completing his connection. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I ran spybot a second time and also restored what he had fixed when he ran it incase he had deleted a necessary file, still no luck.
He's running WIn ME.

Hi,

Verizon Internet Security and Family Protection is installed on Win7 SP1 64bit.

When attempting to run it, it displays a blank white screen. When attempting to uninstall it, it gives a blank white screen.

I tried using Revo uninstaller and it tries to unistall with the program's uninstaller and gives the blank white screen.

No matter what I've tried, I can't get it removed and it still shows up in action center as being installed but turned off.

Any suggestions will be appreciated

Hi Everyone.
My boyfriend's office just moved and at the new office they now have verizon fios as their internet provider. He hooks his laptop into the wall outlet and cannot get onto the interent. It says the page cannot be found. Everyone else in the office can get the internet and his wall jack was tested saying that the internet is being received. I looked at his settings and everything looks normal. The network conncections says the lan line is connected, enabled, and firewalled. I hit repair but still no internet page displays. This a windows xp system. Before the move, my boyfriend would hook up to their verizon dsl system and get interent. At my office he can hook up to our comcast system and get the interent. Also we have a linksys wireless router at my work and I have the adapter on his laptop and that works at my work too. They said at his work they have verizon wireless with the fios but our linksys adapter does not pick up their verizon wireless signal either. We have tried to add a new lan connection and spoke to verizon techs on the phone but no one knows why it is not diplaying a page!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi we've had a Verizon T1 Internet Circuit installed in our US office and although I've asked the Verizon rep to confirm what kind of presentation it will be at the demarc I get the feeling he doesn't know what he's talking about. He is saying that it will be a RJ45/RJ48 Ethernet presentation from their line box on the wall. Is this normal?

I was expecting some kind of serial link.

Answer:Verizon T1 Internet Circuit - What to expect?

Yes. That's normal. The T1 cards Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, etc, use a RJ48 (which is really the same plug as RJ45 but with different voltage and pinouts.) I have three Cisco routers in my lab which have T1 cards in them all interconnected with a custom crossover cable I made.

If you don't have a WAN interface on your router/firewall which can accept the RJ48 handoff, you will need to request a modem from them which will convert the T1 handoff into a standard Fast Ethernet connection.

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:How to connect the internet using verizon modem

Yes, Verizon has international support through Vodaphone (IIRC).  So they would provide you with a SIM (that does in under the batter, circuit side down, notched end out).   In Access Connections you should have by default two WAN profiles, Verizon Wireless and Verizon Wireless - International.  Change to the International profile and it should then use the SIM to connect.

I'm really ready for this to be available in my area. As soon as this is available I'm all over the 15Mbps/2Mbps.

Up to 15 Mbps/2 Mbps* --- $49.95/mo

Hey I'm moving to a location that doesn't have any wired broadband access except for satellite. I have Verizon for phone service and I've seen some of their wireless USB internet access devices. I was wondering how that works and if anyone here has experience with it. Does it work like a cell phone? Ie: you use minutes. Or is it unlimited, per-month charged?

Also, does it work well? What are your realistic download/upload speeds?

Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Verizon wireless internet cards...

from my experience Sprint provides the best network connection there wireless cards run around $180 and unlimited data plan runs around 50.00 a month and burst speeds of around 2mbit, realistic speeds are around 500-700kbps ping times are around the 200ms range

Verizon's service from what I hear is lack luster at best down right horrid at worst.

good luck man, I personally could not live without my cable modem.

Hello. My topic is horrible but its hard to describe this problem in a tiny sentence, so here we go!

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but about a week when my roomate and I tried to use our internet, it asked us to go ahead and re-activate our internet. We were confused, I tried messing with it and activating it once again but no go(it's been active for over 3 months). So we call Verizon and get it all taken care of, but since we've called I've had nothing but problems. My roommate hasn't mentioned anything but shes wired, and I'm wireless.

So let me explain the problem. Basically the connection generally doesn't disconnect, it'll stay with a great signal. What will happen though, is the internet will pause. I use mozilla, in the bottom left hand corner it will just say "Looking up www.xxxxx.com" I just tried it right now in fact, it will sit for a few seconds and end sup with "Problem loading page". A lot of the times it'll sit there for seconds or even a minute. But I could try it 5 seconds later and it might work, it seems so off and on. BUT, windows doesn't really tell me that it disconnects from the wireless connection. I'm just so confused/frustrated.

I'm good with computers, okay with wireless and network connections. As of now, I've made sure my IP is obtain automatically. I changed the channel in which the connection is on, as we have a few int he area. There are 3 on channel 6... Read more

Hello, I'm using a Pantech UML290 4G Anywhere Wireless Modem via Verizon. Currently I'm trying to Enable ICS On the 290 to supply Internet over a home network ( 2 Computers Both Running W7 ) with no success.

I have the home network Running though a Netgear N300

I've tried Bridging connections to no avail, Entering both Connection Data Manually, Clearing out the windows 7 Default Gateway 0,0,0,0., Clearing ARP Cache (WINSOCK / IPv4 / IPV6) and a few other things I had up my sleeve or found on the net. At this moment I have ICS On but when I Enable or Disable ICS it forces my home network to "unidentified network".

The Default Gateway b4 seemed to keep getting reset to 0,0,0,0. Thus why I removed The Default Gateway 0,0,0,0 from the equation. It seemed to work and my Gateway setting was not disappearing after a restart. ( I do have Internet on the host computer but not on the home network but both do work and are accessible) up until I Enable or Disable ICS and it goes back to " unidentified network".

So at the moment I have Internet on the Host Computer and a home Network Setup. I can Restart the Computer and They are both still accessible. ICS is on but not functioning across the home network. The 290 is set to Obtain everything automatically, the Network Connection is manually set :

Hi,

Windows XP Home

Verizon DSL

Problem:
I just installed Verizon DSL a month ago and this has occurred about 5 or 6 times....latest was this afternoon.
(I leave my computer running all the time). An hour ago I went to the computer, and wanted to update, (as an example) my Ad-aware....I open Ad-aware, click on "Check for Updates Now" and it freezes, clicking "X" does nothing, even using Task Manager does not close it. Now the same happens with any other Program (Spybot, SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster, etc)...they simply cannot connect to their servers. This is basically the problem.

Also, I was not able to get IE, Firefox or the MSN Browsers to connect during this time....so, generally speaking, I could not connect to the Internet or Program Servers.

I just got off the phone with Verizon and they say everything looks ok from their end, so they could not come up with a solution except to say that maybe I have "too many Programs running" (does that make sense?), I never had this problem with dialup (that's why I mentioned Verizon in the thread title).

Temporary Fix:
When this happens, I cannot Restart by going to Start>Turn Off Computer>Restart. I get as far as "Restart" then nothing happens. However, if I do a power down using the POWER OFF button on the tower and totally shut off the computer, everything returns to normal upon restarting and the Programs are able to connect.

So one of the main reasons I bought the x1 carbon was because I wanted a laptop with 3G built in. I hate messing with mifi or hot spots. All the promotional materials stated this would be Verizon capable and I even confirmed with two Lenovo customer service people that this would be Verizon capable before buying. I just found out today it is not, I know there is a thread addressing the lack of Lenovo broadband, but nobody from Lenovo has addressed the lack of Verizon support. I'm starting to feel like lando calrisian, in that this x1 carbon deal keeps getting worse and worse.  Is there any near term chance of Verizon support, or should I just send it back now and be done with it.

Answer:X1 carbon Verizon support?? Or Verizon wwan??

Will we see a Qualcomm GOBI card that supports Verizon LTE?  What about the Verizon 3G CDMA/EVDO network? I really don't care about the brand and maker as long as it works. I would like an embedded option, so would my wife.  I have spoiled her with the Verizon chip in her T400.  I would like to spoil her again with a X1 Carbon, but we would really like to use the Verizon network for data if possible. Could one of the Lenovo employees clarify what is available today in that regard? Thanks, Thor

I have been using Verizon Wireless internet service for a while and have had no problems. Just recently I have a secure website that I access (https://) and I can no longer get that site. I can't access it using firefox or IE. I get an erro that says page took too long to respond.

Here's the weird part. I can access it using WIFI or a hard line plugged into my laptop. I haven't changed anything except normal updates to AVG. I have tried disabling firewalls and anti virus. No go. If I disconnect my Verizon and connect to WIFI it works fine.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Verizon Access Manager with no luck.

I called Verizon and they said since it is only that website and not all websites then they couldn't help and since I have always been able to get my problems solved here, figured I would go back to the people who know.

Answer:Weird situation with Verizon internet & Firefox

I've had trouble w/ the Verizon (for my cell phone) site for MONTHS & finally called today.

Every time I tried to log in, I got a message that said "My Verizon is temporarily unavailable."

Verizon reset my password & told me to log in using Safari (instead of Firefox).

I finally got in but I still cannot access their site using FF. I'm pretty disgusted that VZW is not compatible with FF & I'm pretty disgusted that they had such a worthless & unhelpful error message displayed when the real problem is they don't seem to support FF.

Hi I currently have Optimum Online. Would upgrading to Verizon Fios give me faster internet? How much faster? Have you guys upgraded to Fios? was there a speed increase for you? Here's my summary from Speedtest.net:

Thanks guys.

Answer:Should I Upgrade to Verizon Fios? will I get faster internet?

You probably have a 15/2 package from Optimum which is PLENTY fast. In fact, there are going to be people coming in here assuming you are here to brag.

In your other thread, you mentioned slow page load times. Connection bandwidth when it comes to broadband has very little to do with web page load times. You could have a 5/.5 connection and load pages just as fast as someone with a 100/100 connection.

Trying switching your DNS servers to OpenDNS's nameservers.

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

What do you use your internet connection for? Alot of heavy downloading and uploading of large files? If not, FiOS probably won't be of much use. Like I said, DNS servers will affect fast page load times more.

I am confused and hope someone can help me to understand what is going on. Let me start by saying that everything is actually working - I just don't really understand why and it's not working in the way I expected.

I have Verizon FIOS Internet & TV. As part of the service, they provide a router with a coax connection on it. This connection is necessary for some of the TV services (Video on Demand, some of the program guide.) I'd been using their router, an older Actiontec, and it dropped dead - wouldn't power on any longer.

In order to get back up temporarily, I pulled a Linksys WRT54G out of the closet and set it up in place of the Verizon provided router. Once I remembered to configure it as PPoE with any random username/password, it worked fine. Meanwhile, Verizon got another Actiontec on the way to me. While I was without the Actiontec, I couldn't use any Video on Demand services on my set top boxes as expected.

Using the old Linksys for just a day, I remembered how much I liked the Linksys routers. I never did like the Actiontec router - the web interface is awful and you don't have tons of 3rd party tweakable firmwares to play with like you do on the Linksys. Because of this I decided when the Actiontec arrived, I'd try connecting the WAN port on the Actiontec to one of the LAN ports on the Linksys and see if that worked. My thinking was that the Linksys would just hand the Actiontec an IP address via DHCP and the Actionte... Read more

Answer:Verizon FIOS ActionTec -> WRT54G -> Internet

It was a bit tough following you, but here are some general comments

1. Take a look at DSL Reports Replacing the Actiontec router for a how to. Tons of info there as to set up your own router, maintaining VOD for TV, etc I have done this dozens of times; it works well and is realtively easy...

2. The reason the Actiontec has an external IP is because you went Linksys LAN -> Actiontec WAN. If you went Linksys LAN -> Actiontec LAN, you would only have (1) external IP, but your VOD would not work.

3. Did you turn off DHCP on the Actiontec? If not you are double NATting which is not a good idea.

I think that covers your basic questions. If you need more, or I misread, post back

Verizon does not allow "foreign" SIMs to access certain features like Internet Sharing or mobile payments (Softcard). MMS is also crippled. This is a Verizon issue as the problems are the same with Android phones as well.

Hi folks!
My internet connection is broken (gasp...I'm on dial-up!) and there seem to be weird things about it. As I mentioned in the subject, I called Verizon support twice...and they gave up. So, I'll try hard to describe issues (I'm not that good at this), and if all else fails, maybe you could suggest a resource that can help. I was going to call Geek Squad until I read the reviews here.

Okay...everything was fine until we had a local blackout for a few hours. I don't know if it's related. Then the internet connection was gone.

I have a Dell desktop running Vista home preium...brand new computer. It's a westfell modem, and right now I don't have it connected to the router.

They had me do the typical turning off the moden, resetting, etc. Checked all the connections. When the had me do the DOS stuff a couple things happened. The address was wrong, and they tried to have me do a config/release. It said it had to be elevated, and they gave up at that point. I asked if I just needed to go into an administrator mode, and she didn't understand.

I realize you'll probably need the config/all stuff. If you do, could you tell me how I copy it from DOS?

Finally, I am fine about calling for help. If you don't suggest Geek Squad, who do you suggest?

Thanks!!!!

Kathryn

Hi guys,

I'm having problems connecting to the internet, due to a bogus verizon account page. The computer is connected to the internet via wireless adapter. I can communicate with the router, but the "noaccess.verizon.net" seems to be blocking any internet connection. There is another computer in the house plugged directly into the router, which is connecting to the internet just fine.

The fake page insists that there is a problem with the account (there isn't) and asks for log-in info (I didnt enter anything)

I have found other posts regarding this problem, but no definitive answers...

thanks for any help!

I have a brand new Lenovo G50-45 laptop (4GB/1T) that I received as a Christmas gift from my husband. I'm having an issue connecting to the Internet via my Pantech UML290 modem (Verizon).  I've also posted this issue to the Verizon forums and have had some help from an amazing member but I still cannot connect to the Internet via my Pantech UML290 modem.  I believe the issue is the Windows 10 that came installed on my Lenovo "out of the box."  You can see my posts here ~ https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1389379#1389379 I am still able to connect to the Internet with the Pantech via my older HP desktop but I want to retire this computer as soon as possible and exclusively use my shiny new Lenovo laptop. Several months ago I upgraded to Windows 10 on the HP from Windows 7. What needs to be done so I can connect to the Internet via the Pantech UML290?  I would prefer to not buy another modem (MiFi 4G LTE Global USB Modem U620L) but ... I need to be able to connect via a modem. Thanks in advance!

My pictures pretty much say it all. I have a new Westell 7500 modem/ router combo from Verizon. After over 20 hours on the phone I've realized Verizon tech support is a total waste of time. When I run a speakeasy speed test I can see that my downstream only downloads for a second then stops then starts for a second then stops. When i download updates for Adobe or Word etc. the data starts and stops all throughout the download. Uploading seems fine.

It's just like your turning a faucet on and off while your trying to fill a glass of water... when its on, your getting full speed. But of course when it's off you're wasting time.

I get a new Westell 7500 tomorrow, so I'll see how that goes.

I have verizon Fios internet service. Here's a screen shot of my cellphone, using wifi and a screenshot of my computer using ethernet cable and actiontec powerline network adapters.
How can I change the ethernet speed to match the wifi speed?

Answer:verizon Fios: wifi and ethernet, 2 different internet speeds

FIOS is the best Internet service available in the US and you are lucky to have it. The discrepancy between wired & wireless throughput is legendary and there are lots of comments about it. In general the cause is obscure in most cases - wireless throughput is subject to all sorts of issues that are not present with a wired connection. In general you should not expect wireless speeds to match wired speeds - there are just too many variables in play with wireless. For instance, a fish tank can suck up wireless signals like a sponge, as can a steel beam or a large flatscreen TV.

I have been using an unlocked Lumia Icon with AT&T while I was in the States and now I am using Airtel (an African carrier) in Malawi. It's worked great on both networks ( H to H+) except Internet Sharing didn't work for either carrier. I talked to AT&T while I was using that, and they said I was all set up for Internet Sharing on their end, so it has to be something with the phone. Has anyone had success using the Icon's Internet Sharing feature on a non-Verizon SIM? Thanks for your time!

Hi, We have Verizon Fios installed in the office and we are getting the TV service with them as well. They installed an ActionTech router MI424-WR. We have some security cameras and now can"t get to view them from outside the network. I had tried toport forwarding the proper IP's of the cameras to the public IP of the router but nothing... Any ideas?

Answer:Verizon Fios and Internet Security Cameras not working

If you don't have the commercial package, I believe they block port 80. Try an alternate port for the cameras.

Hello. I just picked up a laptop for a client and he wanted to use it to connect to Verizon't broadband internet. He got the Kyocera KPC650 connection card for WWAN:

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=1600

And because he occasionally has weak reception with his cell phone in his building, he grabbed a pigtail and an antenna:

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessoryPopup?item=phoneFirst&accessoryId=16579

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessoryPopup?item=phoneFirst&accessoryId=16578

We got everything in and it all worked the way it was supposed to on Monday. Tuesday the problems happened. The signal strength with or without the antenna is 1-2 bars. what is happening is that the connection will suddenly just go dormant. It will not give a reason or any warning. But the signal just completely disappears. The computer is not moving and I can't figure out what is causing the signal to drop. We even tried mounting the antenna on the roof of the building.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this Verizon Broadband system and what your luck has been with it. I have done some searching and found some antennas and such that might or might not help. I have also looked into cellular repeaters.

Any thoughts on this one?

I wasn't sure if I should put it here or in mobile computing.

The system also fails to work at my client's home. But thi... Read more

We have three 64 bit Window 7 machines on an Ethernet wireless/wired router (ASUS WL-520GC). Worked great? one of the three computers hosts a USB printer and shares with no problems (via a HomeGroup).

We had a broadband power line modem on the same Ethernet network connection and all three computers had sharing of the WAN internet? then we lost our internet connection capability when our supplier went bust!

We are now using a Verizon Wireless USB 720 broadband modem on the same computer that hosts the printer. That computer has internet connection and works fine. We cannot get the remaining two computers to see the internet.

Bridging the Verizon USB ?Home? network and the Ethernet ?Public? network doesn?t seem to work because we can?t set the local area network to ?Home.?

Any suggestions?

Answer:Internet sharing a Verizon Wireless USB modem and an Ethernet network

If I was going to use a Verizon USB modem on a network, I would use a router that you plug the modem into. Check out http://www.cradlepoint.com/ or do a Google search. I remember seeing routers for USB modems (cell service) for as low as $35, but most users recommend Cradlepoint routers.

If you are still on the Verizon 30 trial, you should check out http://www.millenicom.com/, Millenicom has no contract and much higher usage caps, even unlimited using Verizon and Sprint service.

i am lost....anyone got any ideas???? thanks!!!

Hello all,
I'm hoping someone can help me. This is my first post. I have been fighting my internet speeds for several weeks now, and Verizon wireless has not been any help. I have a HP Pavillion running XP Media Center. I use a wireless usb modem like you would on a laptop, only I use it on a desktop, so it never moves. I have great cellular signal with it, but my speeds stink up the place. I test at speedtest.net. I have run spybot S&D to try to clean up any spyware (didn't find much), I have run Windows Definder. I have done all the normal disk clean up, scan disk, ect. Here is my HijackThis file:
Any ideas to try would be extremely appreciated.

I'm currently using ATIV Odyssdy with Verizon label on it on South Korean carrier SK Telecom. When I tried turn the 'internet sharing(tethering)' function on, it says;
----------------------------
Connection not shared
To enable tethering on this device, go to verizonwireless.com or dial *611.
-----------------------------
I know Verizon don't want to let their customers with unlimited data plan use their laptops hooked up to their phone, but why do they limit devices using tethering technology that are not even on their network?
Is there anyone succeed in using tethering/Internet Sharing on Verizon-labled devices(Lumia 822, Ativ SE, Ativ Odyssey, etc) that are connected to other carriers?

Forgive me if this has been covered (and probably has more than once) but is there a good all-in-one A/V, anti-Malware, anti-Spyware and Firewall suite out there?

Many of the programs listed in these forums are individually good programs depending on what its protecting against, but it would be nice to have one that does everything!

I'm currently considering Avast, which supposedly has very good malware protection. I like Kaspersky, but it causes some Firefox browser issues.

Any other recommendations?

Answer:Best Internet Suite?

I'm not an advocate of suites. All-in-one tools and suites generally use more system resources than separate programs that do the same task. They tend to have varying degrees of strengths and weaknesses for each feature. In contrast, separate tools are designed, built and maintained with a greater focus in a specific area so they are generally of better quality and more effective at what they are designed to do. This means the program's performance for that particular feature is usually superior than their all-in-one counterpart. Further, all-in-one tools generally do not allow the user as much flexibility in tailoring default settings and usage.Choosing a security toolkit with anti-virus, firewall and anti-malware programs is a matter of personal preference, your needs, your technical ability and experience, features offered, user friendliness, ease of updating (and upgrading to new program release), ease of installation/removal, available technical support from the vendor and price. Other factors to consider include detection rates and methods, scanning engine effectiveness, how often virus definitions are updated, the amount of resources the program utilizes, how it may affect system performance and what will work best for your system. A particular anti-virus that works well for one person may not work as well for another. You may need to experiment and find the one most suitable for your use and your system. I have been trying to resolve this problem with verizon but they are helpless.
I just recently got Verizon DSL. I transferred my old ISP files using FTP with no problems except 2 PHP programs that I wrote that worked on my old ISP don't work on Verizon. One was a Hit counter. They suggested that I use a GCI hit counter on their site. I copied their script to my file and when I run my webpage I keep getting an error that it can't find "Counter2.exe". This file should be in a Verizon directory but apparently isn't. I talked to a number of Verizon tech's and they can't help or won't.
Anybody having similar problems on Verizon and any suggestions what may be the problem I am having. I probably need to talk to somebody on Verizon with a software background but so far haven't found that person.

i got verizon about 4 months ago. i took all the yahoo software out and went back to outlook express and internet explorer. i also deleted the virus and spyware package they had.the system works much better and don't use near the resources i did with verizon package.

Hi;
I have a Verizon FIOS router m/n MI424WR which has been acting up lately.
Beginning about 3 months ago, it began to exhibit the following symptoms:
No connectivity from any connected computer on wired LAN. I am not sure if wireless devices had connectivity, but I do not believe so.
The problem was always resolved by power cycling the router for about 30 seconds, but it would recur usually after 2-5 days.

Eventually I contacted Verizon using live chat, and after they did some checking, had me reset the router to default.
This seemed to solve the problem for about 6 weeks, but this week it started happening again. Exactly the same issue.

Today though, I decided to check the IP address of my computer while it was not able to connect to the router. I found that the subnet had been changed from its normal 255.255.255.0, to 255.255.0.0.
The computer's IP address had changed as well, from 192.168.1.x to 192.254.208.105.
Of course, I could not access the router, as the subnet had been changed.

Also of note, I have a second router being used only as a switch to connect more PC's to the LAN. This second router is set to an ip address of 192.168.1.2 and is registered as STATIC with the main (Verizon) router. DHCP has been turned off on the second router, and there is no WAN connection, so all it is doing is acting as a switch.

I went on live chat with Verizon again this morning, and tried to convince them that I need a new router, but the agent would not issue an order... Read more

You need the admin id + password to alter the settings.

That 254 moves your router from the Private, non-routable Class C into a Public Class C - -
Not good for you (security & privacy) and a sure sign of being hacked

1) login and immediately change the default password to something you know (hint: same as your pc login?)

2) disable remote administration; usually by disabling port 8080

3) investigate your MTU settings; see this discussion.

4) look for a firmware update for that make/model

Hello there, first time that I have posted on this site and I was hoping that someone out there could help me. For 2 weeks, I have been trying to install my new verizon dsl, using a westell 6100 modem. When I get to the last set up page (account set up) it is blank.. Also, when I try to manually install the IE page only has verizon in the upper left hand corner and a bar that reads 0%. I have contacted verizons tech support numerous times and all they keep telling me is that it is my modem...I'm on my third, with a fourth one comming. This doesn't seem feasable to me. In the device manager, the network connection is working fine but the PCI MODEM has a question mark beside it and reads that the driver is not found (error 28) How do I fix this?

Answer:verizon dsl installation problem

Replace the modem with a quality product. Is Verizon requiring you to use Westell?
Other than that, you must be having driver errors. When you go to the System location in the Control Panel, then to Hardware -> Device Manager, what does the Device Manager give you... Does it look ok, or are there yellow or red flags?

It is likely you need to download a new driver from the manufacturers webs site to another computer, then remove the existing drivers on the problem computer, and install new drivers.

Verizon tech support is usually very good, and they can "see" into your computer or modem to detect the connections.

Either you have bad cables, bad modem, or bad drivers... my guess.

Furthermore all of there trace routes are the same. Here is the forum. http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=12891211291&sid=1

Apparently we are being dropped right before we hit the Boston center. Verizon laughed at me when I told them this is concerning WOW, and that since my internet is running fine and speed tests are optimal there is nothing they can do. I don't know how to read a tracert but I'd like to post one here. If there is anything I can do to fix this please let me know. I was told there maybe a way to go around this center. I got verizons mobile broadband EVDO service here the other day, with the UM-150 usb modem, based my decision on weather or not to get it on the fact that my friends blackberry picked up evdo rather well here

but i wanted the best signal, so i got a wilson signalboost universal (the ones with the velcro on the back) two antennas one that came with the amp, to which i'm unsure of the gain rating on, and one wilson 6.12 db 10" dual antenna... and i also have a direct connect adapter i bought online to hook an antenna directly up in case i ever brought it anywhere, although when i got the adapter it didn't list this modem as for what it was made for...

sitting on my desktop, antenna up, i can get full bars 1xrtt at 75 dbm, and a solid two to three bars of the evdo rev a, it will often connect to evdo then switch immideatly, if i force it into evdo only, it refuses to connect with good signal with error qa920 (i believe)

i hook up the amp and see little to no differance at all if any... i hook up either antenna... and my service weakens, two bars 1xrtt at 85 dbm and on evdo a mere one bar.

i have heard reports of servicing towers creating the error code i'm getting, but why would my serivice decrease when i hook up an antenna directly to the modem... perhaps it isn't the right adapter for this modem after all??

if anyone has any suggestions or anything i would appriciate it very much

I recently won 'CA Internet Security Suite' from a contest sponsered by them that shall remain blameless.
I was wondering about it. Any thoughts, advice, warnings?
I've installed it and, so far, it seems to do what it's supposed to do, as far as I can tell.
All I get, now and again, is a system tray pop-up telling me my download was cool and asking if I want a full system scan, which takes a while.
And it told me, on the install, to de-activate my ALL my anti-malware thingies which I did, with reservations.

Answer:CA Internet Security Suite

However, when it's free, there's no harm in giving it a test drive.

Answer:Kaspsersky Internet Suite

That is extremely hard to answer...It has been my experience (with Norton Products) that they are resource hogs...While they are very good products they use up an awful lot of system resources which IMO will slow things down considerably (specially on older systems)...I would suggest that if possible, try and find a trial version and give it a try...If it works for you then go ahead and get the full blown version.

I do recommend people to have Internet Security Suites but not McAfee.it is because,McAfee is a resource hog and very much hogs on RAM.Besides,it has poor detection rates. Also, like Norton,it does not completely uninstall itself and leaves behind innumerable potential remnants. For Internet Security Suite,I recommend only two. They are:-

1)BitDefender
2)Kaspersky Internet Security Suite

Both have excellent detection rates and considerable prices.Besides, both are very light on resources. If you want a clear view on best Internet Security Suite, read the below excerpt. It was submitted by a user named Broledh in another forum:-
I have seen and tested many Antivirus programs and liked AVG Antivirus because it has a fairly high detection rate. But this was NOT the best. After downloading a few programs and staying vulnerable for many weeks on the net,I got infected with innumerable number of worms, trojans and spywares.I scanned with AVG and came to a conclusion that AVG was the best but this was not until I got reinfected.I was desperate to know the cause because I couldn't afford to become infected and search for a cure.I found the answer to this soon.It was not only necessary to have an Antivirus program but was also necessary to have a firewall,an Antispyware,an Antispam, etc. protection to be completely safe on the net. Now,the search for the best Internet Security Suite began.....

I tested almost every Internet Security Suite on the net including TrendMicro,Zone Alarm,McAfee... Read more

hi guysi currently use zonealarm firewall free, avg anti virus free, spybot and adaware - free. having read various reviews whilst free versons are good they don't always hold up, and detect as well, as paid for versions. which, in your experience, do you think is the best all in one security package having firewall, anti virus and spyware detection - which regular updates eg something like mcafee security or norton or how about zonealarm internet security (all paid versions)? for info it's for one pc as home computer. ideally not spending more than say 50 and ideally not something were license has to be paid for each year for continued usage.many thanksP

Answer:best internet security suite out there

Norton Internet security suite is good. It's an all in one package with alot of features and regular updates but it's more than 50. I would say though that the 4 programs you have listed are more than enough to keep out any threats. If you wanted to add some extra protection you could also install MS Antispyware ,which is free.

I no a lot of you will say stick with free stuffbut i want to try a good security suite. Can anyone tell me a top security suite which does not hog your pc and does not slow pc down to much.MANY THANKS.

Answer:INTERNET SECURITY SUITE. (help please)

Since you are basically asking for a paid suite then I suggest Norton Internet Security 2007. Norton anti-virus got a 96% detection rate in this months PC ADVISOR magazine and got the "PC ADVISOR RECOMMENDED" award. There is also the new Norton 360 security suite that includes system utilities and 2Gb online backup options. There are people on this forum who recommend AVG and Avast free editions which I don't dispute as I am currently using AVG Free on one machine to try but have always used Norton.
