I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Solved: d link software problem for wifi

Have you contacted D-Link about the issue? Can you install the software on another machine and copy the DLL to a floppy or USB stick and replace it on the ailing machine?

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 Laptop that I got this Summer. I used the wireless internet all Summer long while traveling, connecting to wireless internet lots of times at hotels, fast food places, and in friends' homes (never had a problem).

But now at my house it says it is connected to the wireless internet but it won't load more than the home page in Internet Explorer or Firefox. Sometimes it will try to load a page for 10 minutes but nothing comes up. Otherwise, it just says, "server not found" or "internet explorer cannot display."

My roommate's Toshiba laptop connects fine, and our friends' laptops connect to it as well.

I was on the phone with Dell and my Internet provider for 2 or 3 hours. Dell finally said they think it is a software problem but they want to charge me way too much to fix it.

A friend told me to try this "click start -> accessories -> then RIGHT click command prompt
click "run as administrator" type the following in the scary black box exactly:netsh winsock reset, then press enter, then reboot." No luck.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

I have the WiFi LINK for PS3/PSP/NDSL/Wii. I am trying to connect my Wii to the internet thru my computer. The Wii will connect to the WiFi Link but the WiFi Link will not connect to the internet even though my computer is connected to the internet. I believe the problem is my PPPoE connection. I have DSL thru ATT and I am using their Westell Wirespeed DSL modem.

I have followed all the directions provided at http://www.mayflash.com/pc/pc041/001.htm and it still will not connect. My computer is running Windows XP professional and it connects to the internet by using the SBC Connection Manager. How do I get this to work?

I would like to begin by thanking you for your help (please help me). I am trying to set up my family with wireless internet, but my parents are technophobes and I'm kind of on my own with this and the antivirus.
But I digress.
I have a secondhand Dlink DI-524 wireless router and have connected it to my modem with and ethernet cable, and have connected the router to my PC.
When I try to connect to 192.168.0.1 as is stated in my manual, it used to pop up with a password screen and when I tried to enter in the default and hit enter, it just popped up again. After resetting, firefox just says it can't display the page.
When I connect to the network on my PC and laptop, it has an excellent connection yet won't connect to the internet.
If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

I have a TP-Link TL-WN822N wireless usb adapter. It works well, as far as getting a signal.

But whenever I use my earbuds I can hear static. When I unplug the adapter, I no longer hear static.

It sounds like the static is the sound of data transfer, because the sound get busier and louder when I'm downloading something.

I have the latest driver installed.

Hello, I have a problem with a Tplink W8968. My Canon printer wifi does'nt work with this router. I tried to setup the Canon with another router and it works fine. With Tplink It's impossibile to use it in wifi. If I try to install the Canon with the software - http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/contents/SG/EN/0200210302.html - the printer does'nt work because the router doesn't assign any ip address to the printer. I tried also to put manually a Ip address but I have the same problem: the Canon is not visible by wifi. Please help me!

i just replaced an old belkin g router with a d-link dir-825 extreme n dual-band router...i managed to get the desktop connected to the internet using a d-link dwa-552 pci adapter (after updating using the atheros version driver, the included software manager/driver on the cd was a pain-in-the-a$$)...

the macbook pro also connects to the router and the internet...as does the wii and the ps3...using WPA2 security...

the vaio laptop, with vista business 32-bit and an intel wifi 4965agn adapter will not connect to either the router (192.168.0.1) or the internet in a browser window...

i updated the driver to the latest version...

the wireless network shows up, but when i try to connect it says "local access only"...in the vista diagnostic window it says "can't connect to primary dns server" (192.168.0.1)

i set up the router with this same laptop using a wired connection and the d-link set-up wizard, and i got an internet connection then...it just won't connect wirelessly...

of course i reset the router and the cable modem (time warner/roadrunner)...

is it an ip address problem? if so, how do i solve it?

thanks for any ideas...

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

I bought a TP-Link TL-WR84N last week. I have a 50ft Ethernet cable connecting my ISP provided modem/router to the TP-Link router. The wired connection from the TP-Link to my computer is good (90mbps). However, the WiFi download speed is super slow (1.8mbps).
The router's firmware is up-to-date. (3.14.4 Build 131129 Rel.39318n)
The main reason I'm setting this up is for a stable Chromecast connection.

Any suggestions to improve the WiFi speed?

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.

When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.

Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.

Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

Greetings,
After installing Win7 Prof x64 everything with WiFi was working correctly. Yesterday I wanted to try Vista x64 driver with Connection Utility. In the device manager it shows that device is working corectly but in fact it is not working at all. Uninstalling connection utility didn't help and windows cannot find any driver at the HDD or in windows update.

Any idea what could be done to fix it?

Hi, new to the forum and having a problem. My WIFI-N is really slow, the edge 13 will connnect 48-72Mbps only.I know it only has the 2,4GHz channel and no 5GHz at all. this should not prevent me having at least 150Mbps connection. My router is full 300Mbps device. My settings:Edge: 802.11n bandwith for 2,4GHz =auto, Ad Hoc QoS = WMM enabled, transmitting power = 5. maxRouter: WPA2 (pre shared key) AES, Area = Europe, Channel ID = auto, Transmitting power = 100, Bandwith = 20/40MHz Similar case is described here, but it not solved yet. Thanks AltGr

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

Hello everyone, and as my title states I would like to try to change my wifi to a 5Ghz signal. I would like to try this because of all the interference from everyone in my small situated neighborhood where my levels of interference on the top floor of my complex get litterally 20+ signals from every house in the neighborhood. By using my handy dandy inSSIDer program I have determined that every single one of these wifi signals are 2.4 Ghz, and therefore I believe that by changing my wifi to a 5Ghz channel I can avoid some of this unwanted interference. If you believe differently please do tell why. Any who, my service provider is Century Link and I know how to access my router and mess with its settings if necessary, however I was wondering if maybe I needed to do something else? Any advice/insight is greatly valued.

Answer:Solved: Trying to change my Century Link wifi to broadcast a 5Ghz signal

What kind of modem are you using? Actiontec C1000A?

What devices are you planning on connecting to it? Note not every modem and devices support the 5GHz band. Your best solution would be to change channels to 1, 6 or 11 for less interference experience. There's quite a few AP here but it doesn't affect my connection at all. Hardly experience any interference.

Answer:Solved: link works in some software, not in others

The problem turned out to be with a pop-up blocker, AdSubtract. It was blocking a number of links, and all it took to fix it was to disable the blocker (a slngle click does it) and all links then worked. Perhaps this will help someone who encounters a similar situation.

Firstly, sorry for my english.  Now, where┤s the problem. I┤ve bought two days ago a brand new Lenovo Z570 with pre-installed Win7HP. I do not like it, so I updated it to Proff. version. I installed all the drivers, and when I moved to other room in flat, I was/am not able to connect to internet. Wifi signal is excellent in every room, but the only place where I can connect to internet is my table where is also the router. There┤s no problem in connectivity with other devices. My older NB Dell Inspiron 1520 with Broadcom wifi adapter has no problems with connection.  Yeah, and if I move in the same room where┤s router too just for a 3 metres, I cannot connect to internet, but the signal is great.  I dont think the problem could be in router ┤cause other devices (4 NB┤s) are able to connect to the internet in every room. Where could be problem and what I have to do? Thanks for replies

eGreetings All,

I have a 4 year old Acer Netbook Aspire One D250-1341. Running Windows 7 Starter. It is out of warranty.
About 3 months ago it started dropping the wireless internet connection. It has a Broadcom 802.11g network adapter onboard. (No exclamation mark in the Device Manager). It still connects at close range to my router.

I tried some general adjustments by searching the web - but nothing helped.

So I thought I would try adding an Intel Wifi Link 5300 AGN card. There is a slot on the bottom of the netbook where it fits. You just take the cover off and slide it in.
Windows found the card and installed the drivers. It shows up in Device Manager with no exclamation. I manually disabled the Broadcom adapter.
But the Intel 5300 won't find my network.
I went to the Intel web site and ran the Driver Update Utility it searched and found the 5300 and installed the current drivers.
Still no luck connecting.

Maybe this setup won't work at all and I should send the Intel 5300 card back to Amazon for a refund?
I am at a loss.
I have tried searching the web and I can't find anyone that has added a a wireless card to the open slot on the bottom of an Acer D250.

Any ideas? I was hoping to get a stronger and more stable wireless connection.

Thank you so much for your time and assistance.
Happy Holidays!
Jeri

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... I upgraded my T500 to Windows 7 Professional from Vista Business.  Since upgrading, I have been unable to obtain satisfactory WiFi connectivity.  Symptoms are that I cannot stream from either the internet or my local server without experiencing periodic interruptions and/or total drops.  I've tried reinstalling the driver, replacing the WiFi card itself, and adjusting the parameters associated with the adapter card.  Nothing seems to help.  I also own a T61 laptop which I also upgraded from Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional, and I have had no problems with WiFi connectivity on that machine.  It also has an Intel Wifi adapter but a different model.  Both laptops connect to my LAN and the internet through the same D-Link wireless access router. I'm beginning to suspect that the Windows 7 driver for this particular WiFi adapter is flawed.  Has anyone in this forum had a similar experience? Thanks in advance for your comments/assistance.

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Hi there.
Over the weekend I picked up a set of TP Link WPA4220 Powerline (with Wifi) Extenders and a pair of TL PA-411 wired extenders.
This should give me wired extenders in 3 rooms and a wifi boost in one of those rooms. The wired system all works fine but the wifi is a different matter.
The wifi extender is paired to the same SSID as my main Sky router and I can see both devices working properly, however there is absolutely no performance improvement in the room(s) which previously had patchy wifi and now have the wifi extender in. It's like the extender is having no impact at all.
Wifi quality on my Galaxy Note 2 and wife's Iphone 4s have not improved with the addition of the wifi extender.
The internet on the xbox360 in my son's room was sketchy on wifi without the extender, and there was no improvement with the wifi extender switched on, so I have hardwired this now.
I tested the kit with some speed tests around the house via speedtest.net, using both wired and wireless on a laptop and wireless on my phone, and all speeds and pings are almost identical with the TP Link wifi extender switched on or off.
I then used an Android app called Wifi Analyzer which can see the main router and TP Link extender and reports on both.
The Sky router signal sits at -40db ("excellent") when next to it, dropping to -60 ("medium") when in the bedroom with patchy wifi (and the extender in it).
The TP Link wifi signal is sat at -60 (+/-3) all the time in the bedroom an... Read more

Answer:TP Link Powerline with Wifi - No Wifi performance boost...?

It sounds like you are still connecting to your router rather than the extender.
I have a range extender and the SSID is the same as the router but with _EXT tagged on the end so in order to connect a device to it I have to go into windows networking and attach to the extender otherwise it will automatically attach to the router as in the past but I guess you have already tried this.

Hi everyone.

I installed wifi hotspot client software a week ago (WiFi.com). It did say it wasn't ready for Vista, but I figured Why Not? It just won't work. I lost my wireless immediately. Uninstalled the software. For the past week I have done everything possible to be able to reconnect: update driver, delete hardware and drivers, reinstall, check that the client is gone, searched this site and found post "networking/685832" from Sundance, did what he did. Windows says that the device is working properly.but it can't find any wireless networks.

I'm running Vista HP of a gateway M-150X. All Windows, virus and other updates are up-to-date. I have attached my ipconfig data.

Can anyone think of something to help? Thank you for your consideration.

Answer:Solved: Wireless Dead after Wifi Software install

The minimal info given by ipconfig shows a possibly good ethernet connection to a router, and no wireless hardware.

Does the wireless adapter show as OK in Device Manager under Network Adapters?

If so is the wireless connection shown as enabled in Network Connections?

I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 on a Compaq C500 (Broadcom 4311 wireless). The Wifi turns on and connects fine, and I can access local resources, but the PC cannot connect to the Internet when running Vista. Luckily, it's a dual boot, so I booted up XP - Wifi and Internet work fine. So it's a software issue blocking Internet access. Just popped up tonight. No spyware. No firewall issues.

I have a TP-LINK (TD-8616) modem and a D-Link DIR-615 router. I am running Vista.

My modem works, but there is something wrong with the router or the way I have the router set up. I used to connect my internet directly from modem to PC, but I want to set up a wireless for another computer in the house.

I plug the router in, and connect to the internet like normal. Browsing the internet works (I am on it through the router as I type). However, I cannot access the router setting page (when I go to 192.168.0.1 it times out). The globe/internet icon on the router is a solid red colour. Also, when I try to get to the modem settings at 192.168.1.1 and it does not work (but it works if I am hooked directly to modem without router).

When I run ipconfig /all, the default gateway section is blank.

Any ideas? Is my router just dead? I will post more info it any is needed.

[Edit] I have done a "hard reset" (holding reset for 10 seconds while it is turned on) and unplugged it also, to no avail.

I have been running Goldmine Premium for one year. I have been using the Goldmine Link to merge the database with Word templates. I use the Document Template in Goldmine and it opens a Word document and merges the fields. Until this week...Word will open but with a popup screen from Visual Basic that reads, Run time error '438' Object doesn't support this property or method. The choices are End or Debug. When I click on Debug it says Normal Word TmpDDE Mod (Code) (General) TmpDDE and under it Private Sub TmpDDE () Word Basic, Call Goldmine Link. End Sub
What does all this mean and what can I do? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Link to no avail. The Goldmine toolbar does not come up in Windows and I am unable to run contracts using the merge feature. (I have to manually go in and type the fields it normally fills.)

PC 2 - IP 192.168.0.2 - Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 - Default Gateway 192.168.0.10 (Printer installed on this PC) - XP Professional
Printer - IP 192.168.0.3

All connected to a D - Link (DES - 1008D)

I ran network setup on both PCs and everything when fine, I used the network without having any problem for about two months.
Then I did something (can't remember what).

The Problem:

Both PC's can see each other ( When searching for computers on network)

When working from PC 2 everything is fine, I can still connect to PC 1.
But when working from PC 1 , THIS POPS UP - PC 2 IS NOT ACCESSIBLE. YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THIS NETWORK RESOURCE. CONTACT THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE SERVER TO FIND OUT IF YOU HAVE ACCESS PERMISSION.
LOGON FAILURE: THE USER HAS NOT BEEN GRANTED THE REQUESTED LOGON TYPE AT THIS COMPUTER.

The thing is the accounts I'm using on both PC's don't have passwords (just click and log on)

Might PC 2 have a Firewall that block PC 1
I have shared files on PC 2
The only reason that the printer has a network cable in is to use its scanner,
PC2 also blocks the printer ( so I can only print but not scan)

I use Outlook Express for all outgoing and incoming e-mail. I'am a contributor to Wiki-Answers and every now and then Wiki-Answers send me a bunch of questions to answer.I click on any one of the questions (links) which then takes me directly to the page on Wiki-Answers where I can then answer the question. However, recently the links have stopped working. I thought the fault was at their end until today when I received an e-mail with a link to a YouTube music video which also didn't work. So I guess the fault is at my end.
I have tried Ctrl-Click, doesn't work.
I recently set up a MSN Hotmail account but I can't see how that's got anything to do with it.
Also, I recently went to my Control Panel - Add & Remove Programs and removed/deleted Microsoft Installer. Since this program wasn't installed anyway I fail to see how this can be the cause of the problem. I give this information in case it's helpful in some way.
Anyone any ideas on how I can fix this ?

Answer:Solved: D Link Dir 655 Coneecton Problem

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hi there

I`ve been for the first time trying to install a wireless router in my pc. My objective is to build it, install it and then obtain a computer linked to the router by cable, that is a net source for another pc of mine that has a wireless USB modem.

Although, my problem is that even after running the CD that was in the same pacage as the router in my "mother" pc, and after building all the hardware correctlly, running the IP setup in the browser, by its wizzard (configuring it as dynamic IP adress), I obtain in my network connections (in the control panel) two icons, one woth my local network saying its connected, and another with a gateway connection connected too, the internet doesn`t work. It simply isn`t working.

Please anyone who knows anything about wireless networking, help me.
Thanks for your atention anyway.

The C: drive link (button) in "my computer" does not have a link that works on a double click. The only way I can get into my C: drive through "my computer" is to right click on it and select open. I believe it may be due to a rename of the drive I made a while back. However, I know that the computer is aware of the drive size/status even though the link does not work.

My recycle bin does not work anymore. It does not show any files at all after sending them to the recycle bin and also says it always has 44 files in it on an empty recyle bin. (So basically when I delete something, I don't know what is happening to it.)

Thanks so much for your help.

After initial setup of the router all was fine. After going in to set up (it was an unsecured network) WEP security for the network I could no longer connect wirelessly to the Internet. I can connect to the internet when I use a cable from the router to the laptop. The computer shows the wireless network connection is connected and I can print wirelessly to the print server so I think the computer and router are connecting. I can also connect to another laptop through the router and all is fine on that computer. I have talked to D-link tech support and have not solved the problem yet.

I don't know why it will not work now, it did after I first set it up, I should have left well enough alone.

Please help me get back to wireless.

Hi
I had a driver problem with tp-link tl wn722n in windows 8. (solved myself but tried all the things on the internet)
The errors I got were:
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
The hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. The file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering.
And, also when I try to install the software utilities on windows 8, i got blue screen and I fixed using refresing windows 8.
Then I tried lots of manual installation things, but only that one worked for me
go to TL-WN722N - Welcome to TP-LINK (you need to establish some other internet connection of course)
download TL-WN722N_100629
or direct download via this link http://www.tp-link.com/resources/sof...22N_100629.zip
extract zip file
run devmgmt.msc (device manager)
click on (or highlight with keyboard) USB2.0 WLAN
open context menu (right click or press context menu key)
click/hit enter on update driver software
select browse my computer
locate the folder you've got after extraction
next
you're done
I've tried so many things with the driver in the cd coming within package, none of them worked. (tried to install atheros chip driver, got same error)

One of my computers is on 5 GHZ band, the other is on 2 GHZ band, because it will not stay on the 5 GHZ, but maybe because it is a few more feet away than the computer that works fine on 5 GHZ band wireless. When I click on a link, sometimes the new page appears on the upper 1/3 of the screen. I then have to maximize the page. This does not occur when I first open IE6.
Any suggestions to have all pages open full screen?

Answer:Solved: clicking a link opens the new page problem

Open up internet explorer
Open up a link that opens a second window @ 1/3 of the page
Now hold the CTRL key
Use your mouse to grab each side of that page dragging it to the limits of your screen. This includes both sides, top and bottom
Now leave that screen up and open
Switch to your original Internet Explorer page
Hold CTRL key, mouse click on FILE then on EXIT
Now go back to your other page
Hold CTRL key, mouse click on FILE then on EXIT

That should solve your inconvenience for the time being.
Please be aware, Internet Explorer remembers it’s last state when you close it! So, if something changes the page size, it will remember the next time and you will have to do it all again!

There may be a registry setting for fixing this, but I haven't had time to research it!

I'm having all sorts of problems with a D-Link 624S Super-G Wireless router. I've had plenty of problems with this in the past, but for a little while things were working alright. Then we switched ISP's (qwest to comcast), and things have gotten all screwed up again

Currently, Comcast has provided us with a cable modem (not sure of the model number, and its in a room mates, so i can't check it right now). Initially i thought this would be a relief, because now we would not have 2 routers running... little did i know that the same problems as before would come back to plague me.

Right now the d-link is set to almost default settings, but have changed a couple of settings. Based on this information i tried turning off the UPNP setting. I have also enabled wireless, and set up WEP for the time being.

But even with stock settings, (after enabling wireless that is) i have very finicky problems with the internet. Half of websites i visit time out, even though i have a "great" signal strength. There is nothing in either my room, or the room the router is in that would interfere with the wireless signal, yet this problem does not happen for my flat mate, who is plugged directly into the router.

Also, i can ping google.com almost all of the time without any problems, even when websites are not loading, and i'm currently using DHCP IP addresses, if thats relevant. Oh, and the firmware is version 1.00, and as far as i can tell thats the most rece... Read more

Hi everyone. I have a problem. I tried to go to a web page in Internet Explorer because it wouldn't work in Firefox. Well, when I typed in the web page address on Internet Explorer and hit the Enter button, it went to Firefox and proceeded to load the page in Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Firefox is set as my default browser. I have Internet Explorer 6.0 and Firefox 3.0.1. The main problem with this is that I cannot download Internet Explorer 7.0 or 8.0 because I can't go to the Windows Update site. As you know, Firefox is incompatible with Windows Update. So, if you all could please help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Hey everybody, at our office on of the higher-ups is located in-between two Cisco AP's. There are others within the office that find dead spots where there is no wifi signal so I am wondering if any of you know or use helpful wifi survey software that will allow me to walk around with a laptop/table and record the dBm. I am having a problem in Excel 2007 opening an Excel-2003 created workbook that contains links to other workbooks. I have no problem in Excel 2003 opening this file with the "Don't Update" option - the value of the formula displays even though the other workbooks are not accessible.

In Excel 2007, when opening this file it prompts that the workbook contains links that cannot be updated. Selecting the first option of the prompt "Continue" retains the workbook references in the cells and displays the "#VALUE" error message. If I click on one of those error cells, the smart tag show the message "A value used in the formula is of the wrong data type." The cell type is numeric and the cell contents should be numeric.

The second option when opening is "Edit Links". According to Microsoft, breaking the link to these other sources should replace the formula with the formula value. My does not do that.

Neither option works for me. I've tried adjusting the error checking and update options under "Excel options". I've tried copy & paste special w/ values with the referencing cells. I've tried changing the cell format. Nothing seems to allow me to open the 2003 workbook in Excel 2007 and see the values of cell that reference an inaccessible workbook.

Hello!

I need to make a 50m WIFI link and I have a tree top in the way. Is it still possible to make a link?

As far as hardware goes, I was looking at
Ubiquiti :: AirMax Airgrid M2 16dBi High Power or
Ubiquiti :: AirMax Airgrid M2 20dBi High Power or
Ubiquiti :: AirMax NanoBridge M2 18dBi

Do you think that would do?
Anyone have similar link online?
Do you know, if I can pass VLAN trunk over these devices?

Matej

Answer:50m WIFI link with one tree in the way

Get two extra small directional antennas and connect with a short wire. Install one on either side of the tree.

Yes, it'll work. Robert X. Cringely did at his old house years ago to share a neighbors DSL line.

Question: WiFi Link 4965AGN

I have Computer w/ 3 operating systems on it, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows 7 RC, and Windows XP Professional. Windows Vista was the original operating system but I downgraded due to software conflicts at the time. I hardly use Vista anymore because its too slow on my laptop, I use Windows XP and Windows 7RC.... ANYHOW....

I have a 7.1 mbps internet connection that I connect through over wireless G. My network card is the Intel? Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. I have a Linksys WRT54gs2 router with secured WI-FI & mac address. When I connect to the internet using Windows XP OS, I download no faster than 80KB/s on rapidshare, or 150kb/s on the Microsoft server. When I use Windows 7 or Windows Vista, I download at 800kb/s on the same wifi connection. Therefore my questions is: WHY DO I DOWNLOAD SLOWER ON XP? I have my wireless card driver updated on all operated systems.

I have just recently installed a D-link 614+ router. I want to connect to it trough WIFI with my IBM T30, however I have a problem. The network would periodically go down for a second and that come back up. It happens every 2 minutes or so. Can anyone suggest a way to solve this. I have upgraded the firmware on the router and gone through all support material on D-link site, but I can't find anything.

For extra information I want to add that I have a neighbor who has a WIFI installed also and he broadcasts his SSID. Maybe this can be a cause.

Remove the wireless security
Is your wireless security enabled?
if so - log into the router and remove the wireless security - now see if it will connect.
if it does - log back into the router and try with the wireless security enabled again

Hi guys, I have the following symptoms with a TP-LINK router (TL-WDR3600) connected to a modem-router.

- Wired internet works fine
- Wifi signal ok, but not as stable as it should be
- NO internet via wifi, unless I remove the wifi security
- Removing and restoring the wifi security gave me back internet access, for only a while though.

All tested with pc, tablet and phone.
Any clues to what might be the problem?

Question: Wifi link speed

Hello, I have an X200 laptop, and I'm making voip calls.Sometimes I have a very bad conversation quality, even that I'm connected to the WIFI with 5 bars and there is a very good internet bandwidth. The strange thing is that when the link speed is constant (for example 2 Mbps or 54Mbps), the conversatin quality is very good. But when it changes on the scale from 1mbps to 54mbps every 5 seconds, the call quality is poor.It happens at my house and also in cafes. Why does the link speed changes when I have 5 bars?Is it possible to solve it? Thank you very much,I'll be glad if someone can help me, because I'm talking over my SIP application every day and I wish that the call quality will always be good. Mark.

Answer:Wifi link speed

> Why does the link speed changes when I have 5 bars?

Basically you may have a strong signal indication, but there may be a lot of contention for the use of the radio band that the signal is in.

WiFi uses a shared medium.  Achieveable data throughput will vary with the number of other users concurrently accessing any access point in the vicinity, and will also vary if there are other devices want to use the Wi Fi channel space.  WiFi operates on what is effectively unlicenced wireless spectrum, so you can be contending with a range of other non-WiFi devices in the same wireless spectrum.

Cheers,

Bill

I have 3 Windows XP machines that use a wireless adapter (1 desktop, 2 laptops). The laptops use a Belkin wifi PC Card, the desktop uses a Linksys PCI card. All three of them can connect to my wifi router (Linksys), but cannot get an IP address. I get a balloon pop-up saying that it can't find a certificate to connect. The machines will connect (via wire) fine if I use an ethernet cable.

Since my 2003 server assigns IP addresses (I have DHCP disabled on the wifi router), I tried hard-coding an IP address on the machines, and I still get the same message.

So I'm now thinking it's something with the wifi router. I already hard-reset it, reconfigured it, and upgraded the firmware, but still nothing.

I called Linksys, and they verified that my router setup was correct, but are still unable to correct the problem.

Can anyone help with this, or point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, got a macbook pro(running win7 bootcamp) and a pc desktop at home, and both wifi stop working yesterday, not sure whats going on, My iphone & powerbook can pick up my Wifi network just fine.
I have a cable modem box hooked up to a Dlink DI 614+. Im in my Dlink router config page, everything is still the same, wireless still enabled, password is still set. in the system tray, the wireless connection box doesn't show any wireless network, not even my neighbors. I tried manually adding the Wifi network in the Wireless connection network menu, but it doesn't seem to do anything. A few days ago i did try to network share my macbook pro with my desktop(which i did get working) not sure if that might have caused the wireless failure. But it is odd that the pc and macbook pro now stop working, but the powerbook is fine.
any suggestions ?

thanks.

In general these types of problems can be fixed by resetting the router. After resetting the router you will need to go through the routers set up page and enter your SSID, password, and other wireless connection settings.

I'm looking to connect roughly 2 miles with a rough 5-degree coverage angle. I've decided that this

http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/hg2424g.php

antenna is probably the best (that I've seen for a reasonable price). What is the best card/adapter for PCI application in a desktop? Orinico with a PCI adapter or has something better come along?

Answer:Best WiFi B/G Solution for a 2-Mile+ Link?

Those with some orinoco cards should work great. That's what the local Wireless ISP here where I live use for there backbone wireless connection. They have had up to 2 inches of ice build up on the antennas and still had good enough signal to support the backbone.

I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to Networking but here goes.

I've got a D-Link DSL-604+ 22Mbps Wireless router with built-in ADSL modem and a D-Link DI-624 108Mbps Wireless Broadband router.

Obviously the DI-624 that I recently purchased doesn't feature an in-built modem so instead of blowing $50 on a D-Link ADSL modem with Ethernet connectivity I was hoping to use the ADSL modem feature in my old Wireless router (604+) as my modem for the DI-624.

I called D-Link support but unfortunately after an hour of following live instructions from their support staff, I ended up nowhere.

They instructed me to disable DHCP and NAT features on the 604+ and plug an ethernet cable into it's LAN PORT 1 and plug the other end into the WAN PORT on the 624.

I plugged an ethernet cable into the DI-624 LAN PORT 1 and into my computer's Ethernet port in order to configure the DI-624.

After configuring the DI-624 via its web configuration web page, I could get the 108Mbps network up and running but without the access to DSL.

If anyone any of the above mentioned products and can provide a tip or a link to a guide or something, that would be great.

Thanks

Answer:Wifi not working with TP-LINK router

For a computer running Windows please show the following for a connection to the ethernet jack in your room and for a connection to the router ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have set up a passcode for my sisters wifi as it was not enabled by the tech that set up her D Link/wifi.

I couldn't believe that wasn't taken care of but I am not that wise about all aspects, so thought I would ask someone here.

I renamed her SSID to a private name rather then dlink, the way it was, and I set up a passcode so others that want to use their computer here at her place will need to login using that key. I figured her neighbors could bleed off her signal, but even if they aren't doing that, it seems to me securing your signal is best. Am I right?

My second question to do with that, is, I set it up on my computer because I was on her signal of course, but she was on her computer, which she said she was going to be off it, and I didn't know. Her connection is still on and she hasn't used the passcode yet? Do I have to set up her computer with the same info as I did on the router from my laptop?

Sorry if this sounds confused, I am a bit. denise

Answer:D Link Wifi Security Pass Key

You're headed down the right path. You are correct in your thinking with regard to changing the SSID name and setting up a passcode in the router.

And, yes, the passcode will have to be saved in her computer before it can connect to the Internet.

Unfortunately, when playing an game like Second Life, it completely locks up the laptop. When in wireless mode, the wirelss connection shuts down. There is no way to get it back without rebooting the computer. The same is true when connected by a LAN. I checked to make sure I have the latest driver for the chipset. As I am sure everyone is aware, millions of people use Second Life for work and play. Its too bad I cannot use this laptop. Any suggestions? Mac

Hi there guys,it's my first post on this forum even although I should've asked here first. I have the same problem with the network wifi adapter as mentioned in the previous thread with this subject: it happens to disconnect and after that it doesn't appear in Device Manager for some time. Ussually I go there 'scan for hardware changes' and it appears back, but sometimes it doesn't come back for good and I need to restart my laptop. So..this is quite sad. I've read all the opinions about this and all solutions so far and nothing worked for me. I checked my driver on Intel and it says: Product DetectedIntel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGNCurrent Driver Installed14.3.2.1This device is unknown or unsupported. Please contact the manufacturer for possible updates. So I downloaded their newer driver which is 15.3 and still the driver version remains 14.3.  This is becoming quite annoying becouse it happens to disconnect right when I am downloading or writing an email.        Did someone from tech support found a solution for this? please! I would appreciate a lot. Thank you. p.s. I am running win8 pro.

Answer:About Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN

I suspect there are variants of the Intel 5300 card that will work in Lenovo systems, and other versions of the card that are designed for other systems (like HP, etc) and will not work in a Lenovo. It's possible that the 5300 card you have wasn't designed for Lenovo platforms, and as a result doesn't match up with the bios whitelist on your system. Did the system originally come with this card, or was the card installed sometime later? If installed later, was the card supposedly compatible with Lenovo systems (incl your model)? I picked up my new 5300 card from eBay sometime back... it was listed as compatible with my Lenovo T400 (incl a few other models), and once I installed it (and installed the driver, updated access connections, rebooted the system etc), it came right up at 450mbps when near the access-point. Finally, the 15.x (I'm assuming Lenovo) driver might not support this older 5300 card... my T400 is running a 14.x driver for Win7 64-bit which does support the 5300, but I noticed the 15.x driver for my system doesn't support the older 5300 (and states that in the release notes for this ver). That's all I can come up with for now... hope something here helps you out. And keep me posted... will check this thread from time to time. Mike

Answer:About Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN

I'm having the same problem with my T500 (same wireless adapter, Intel 5300 AGN) since upgrading from Vista Business to Win 7 Professional.  I had no problems with wireless connectivity under Vista.  From what I can tell, this seems to be a problem with the 5300 adapter running under Win 7 on the T400/500 platforms.  I've tried everything, and I haven't been able to find a resolution on this forum up to this point.  I believe this is a problem Lenovo owes its customers a solution for.

I just thought I would write a little something for the people on this forum struggling with Wi-Fi range issues. I solved mine after many problems using a couple of high-wattage items from wifi-link.com.

Here is my situation:
I live in a rural area serviced by Charter cable. I have the 10Mb down / 1Mb up service (which has been working great for me, btw). The problem came when my sister moved a couple of streets away from me. She just separated from her husband and they have yet to work out the alimony/child support issues, so she is kinda light on money right now. Unfortunately, her children "attend" the ONLINE middle / high school. Obviously she requires high-speed internet access, but would have a hard time affording the cost. So, being the loving brother that I am, I told her, "Hey, don't worry about it, I'll hook you up to my network and you can share my connection." She said, "Can you do that? I live too far away to string a cable across the neighborhood." I assured her I could do it using Wi-Fi. I then started making my own YAGI potato chip can antennas. I am an experienced A+-certified technician, so I figured it would be no big deal. Well, long story short, my antennas sucked. NO SIGNAL. I must have aimed and re-aimed the things for hours. I started to worry that I had bitten off more than I could chew. I did NOT want to tell my sister that I had failed. So I went looking on the web for some cheap antennas... Read more

Hey everyone! I'm new here. Currently have an apple router and have had it for maybe 6-7years. I think it is finally on its last leg. It has become unreliable at times.

The question I have is about the TP-link c7 wifi router. I have a 2 story house that's around 1600sf. The wife and I are constantly online and we also use playstation vue. So that takes up a lot of bandwidth. Would the TP-link c7 be the right router for us?

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Reviews on TP-link c7 wifi router

did the apple router work throughout the house ok
if so , you may want to think about an Apple replacement

its going to be difficult to say if it will work reliably and with high speed across the 2 stories, as the construction of the property and also other signals in the area can all cause interference.

Something else to consider , is the powerline adapters with wireless and cable units
This uses the electrical wiring of the house - again the quality and speed would depend on the electrical wiring of the house

ie long range and better bandwidth

my old linksys router which is 4 years old has stopped working

That TP Link has almost 800 reviews on Amazon and it's almost all four star reviews. The cost of consumer wireless devises has become very affordable. I use those little $5 USB wifi dongles on my Raspberry Pi's and they work great. The box I'm on now has a low cost NetGear USB dongle and the speed and reliability is great. I'd buy it.

Two bars max.Looking at the internet, I can see, as usual, that there appear to be a million solutions. Boosters etc etc. Can somebody point me in the right direction please. I notice that BT sell a Hawking Hi-Gain Wireless 300n USB network dish adaptor and a Hawking Wireless G dish adaptor. The High gain 300n gives speeds up to 300Mbps and the G model 54Mbps.Will this work or are there any better solutions. Thanks in advance.John.I will post this on networking as well.

Answer:WiFi link. Signal weak

firstly has you neighbour given permission for you to pig-e-back on his broadband - it is illegal if he has not. If permission is granted you will have to experiment with position. In my home certain rooms have no trouble connecting but others cannot. Where his wireless router is poitioned will also make a difference. The higher the transmitter the better the signal. If he uses wifi could he move it to the closest point to your place?
