A data recovery program that can recover MPEG-2 files?

Question: A data recovery program that can recover MPEG-2 files?

Hi, anyone know of a program that will data recover MPEG-2 movies that were accidentally removed from my Recycle Bin? I have tried several programs, including Recover My Files, GetDataBack, Stellar Phoenix - one found no files, the other found 1300 files (where there should only be about 10), and the other found the right amount, but the files themselves were absolutely huge, so it must have merged the missing MPEG-2s to some of the other movies that weren't deleted.

Can anyone please suggest a way out of this, either by naming a program that can recover MPEG-2s, or a setting that I need change on one of the progs that I've already tried?

Thank you.

Preferred Solution: A data recovery program that can recover MPEG-2 files?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a program install on my computer called "Med Journal" and I have been using this program for many years to record medical information on me and my family. Recently I tried to open the program and got an "Invalid Login Information" when I used my Username and Password. When I used the Advance System Care Shortcut Fixer, I learned that the shortcut on my computer has no "Target." I found the logo for the program in my Documents folder and the Type of document showed "Application" and the size of the folder is 1450KB so I think that this is the program. But, when I tried to open the program in the Documents folder, I got the same result "Invalid Login." (Also, there is an option for opening an unregistered version - my version is registered - by using "login" and "password" instead of the "real" login and password, but using "login" and "password" didn't work either.

Does anyone know how I can recover the data in Med Journal? Thanks for any and all replies.

Uhm! pretty much what I said up there. Tried Get data back but didnt get any.... I see now that my 200 gb drive has reverted back to a 136 gb. Is it possible to fix this without moving data to another drive

Answer:need to recover data. What program do I use?

When you recover data from a HD you must always recover to another HD. Recovering to the same one overwrites the files you are trying to recover and will cause you to lose them forever.

I've personally used "active File recovery" from this site and it worked out for me. But your chances of success depend upon how much stuffs been written to the drive since what you want has been deleted.

Hi,
i have a toshiba P20, when i have buy it, i have made 2 partition, C to OS and program and F to my personnal data.

i have use the toshiba restoration tools in order to restore my windows XP OS, but the restore tools has also reset my partition table and i don't know if i can restore my personal data.

All is done in one step and i have not seen of warning to say that my partition table will be reset?

It's a really format which has been done or just a fdisk /

Can i use a tools to restore the data of my lose partition ?

i hope that there is an acceptable solution to this problem and in a near future i will buy an external HD to perform backup.

Answer:P20: Can I recover data after recovery procedure?

Hello Alex

If you want to preinstall the unit with recovery media you can do this on two different ways:
- standard mode ? the whole HDD will be formatted and after recovery procedure on the HDD is just one partition.
- expert mode ? using this mode you can create partitions if the HDD has just one, and you will be able to install OS on first partition (the second one stays)

Obviously you have done it using standard mode and now the whole HDD is formatted. I am not 100 % sure but in this case just fast format is done before the installations procedure begins. Try to find out (Google) if there is any tool that can help you to check if all data are gone. Using recovery media there is no way to do this.

External HDD is good solution for data saving.

You might be able to use a free recovery tool like Recuva or MiniTool Partition Wizard. But there are no guarantees that all deleted files will be recovered or that they will be in a usable condition.

Hello, hope I come to the right place! Honestly, my Toshiba flash drive has been used for saving some videos, photos and files for several years. But, last night, I just formatted it by mistake and lost all my stored information. Honestly, I did have another copy of these files on my computer, but, some of the newly edited videos and several school documents have not been backed up yet. Is there any data recovery software that can help me take them all back? I did have searched a lot of the related problems over the internet and all of them recommend me to apply the related data recovery tools. But, I am not sure whether the related data recovery tool is really necessary? Do you have any similar experience? What am I supposed to do now? Thanks!

Hi there,

Recently, my Toshiba computer experienced a blue screen error. I tried running the computer in safe mode and all the other modes available, but the blue screen kept appearing. I had no other choice but to run the Product Recovery CD that came with the laptop. Once it was done, I was happy to find that the laptop was working, but all my files were deleted! Now, I know this meant the HDD was formatted during the product !recovery operation, but is there any way in which my lost files can be restored???

Hi,

Basically, my laptop has been stuck in a start-up repair loop so my only option is to use the recovery CD. However, I have some files which I did not back up before my laptop decided to fail on me. Is there a way in which I can recover these files whilst simultaneously fixing my laptop ?

I am running Windows Vista SP1.

Thank you for any help,

Answer:Satellite A210-11K - Can I recover my data before using the recovery disk?

Hi

You can backup your data if you put the HDD in an external HDD case. Then you can connect it to another notebook or PC and you can save the data on it or burn it on a DVD.
That?s all!

Such external HDD cases are very cheap. I have bought my external HDD case from eBay and it?s working well.

But there is no other way to save the data because the Toshiba recovery disk wipes the whole HDD and all on the HDD will be erased.

So here is the deal,
I managed to contract a malware, how I have no clue, regardless it's infected with the "system restore" malware and will no longer boot into win 7. I have placed the hdd into an external enclusre however my user files have a lock on the file folder icon. When I open the file no data appears but I can see the file has data when I right click on properties.

How can I access the data using my external? Once I backup my data I am goig to dban the drive and start over.

Answer:Data recovery, hard crash after malware, can I recover from external hdd?

I believe that you may just need to take ownership of the file. as long as you diddn't encrypt the home directory when the user was created.

Hopefully this helps.

Windows XP Pro
Toshiba A25-S307
(Old!)

I reinstalled the OS and forgot to back up my GPS data files.
I let windows format the HD (60GB) during the installation process.

Is there any chance, sheer luck, that the files might be recovered?

I fiddled with Testdisk/photorec and boy, does it find files!
It was over 20,000 when I shut it down. It filled an 8GB flash drive.
Some of the pictures were definitely from the previous installation.
But no GPS files.
Maybe the program had not reached the sectors where they are?
Or it is not even looking for them?

My GPS files are .gdb and .gpx, neither of which appear on the list at cgsecurity.org
I looked at the instructions for adding custom signatures but it is beyond my understanding.
In general, this program is beyond my understanding.
I had trouble with the drive selection RE save location, but got it to work.

Also, I made a post, same topic, on the cgsecurity.org forum.

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Recover GPS Data Files

Hi Senseless

I saw your post at cgsecurity and then found this one by searching here for 'gps files'. You used a different name there so I was pleasantly surprised to see it was you

At this point the difficulty with your situation stems from the fact that you've written a substantial amount of stuff to the drive that you are trying to recover from. I loathe telling someone to try a solution that they have to purchase as opposed to an open source solution but in this case it is probably your last best chance.

Try Restorer Ultimate in demo mode and see if you can find your files with it...
www.bitmart.net

It may see your old partition and it's structure prior to your format and reinstall.

If you can, you'll need to purchase it to do the recovery.

Hope this helps

One of my departments oldest secretaries was transferred to another department recently. However when my departments secretary left she also deleted every single file under “My Documents”, yes that includes work related files.

So as you can imagine we’re not only pissed, but trying to figure out how to get those files back (if any). Now I know there’s a couple programs out there that will attempt to bring back files on a hard drive that have been deleted, but I’ve never had any experience with them. What programs would you guys recommend?

Nice freeware app. Worked when I deleted an entire hard drive I thought I had already copied over to another drive. I'm sure there are others but this worked for me.

Very important: Make sure you don't write anything to the drive or you make recovery more difficult. Some files could be lost if data is written. If you can, put the drive in another computer then try recovering files from there. Make sure you write any data to another drive.

I am looking for a good program to recover files. My hard drive died. I used OnTrack to recover the files. However it only reports 30 gigs of drive space even though the hard drive is 300 gigs. Everything that got recovered does not work. Every time I just look at the recovery folder windows explorer crashes, I don't even have to select a file. I tried several other recovery programs with no success. I am looking for a program that can restore the entire drive.

Also, could there be a problem with the MBR not reporting the correct size of the drive?

Thanks.

Answer:Need program to recover files

Perhaps you could try booting up with a Linux Live CD,
which may enable you to lift your personal files off,
onto an external USB drive.

Ubuntu 9.04 and Linux Mint 7, (Gloria), are pretty good distributions.

Others in these forums have previously suggested removing the hard drive from the computer
and hooking it up to another computer.

I prefer the Linux method, as it avoids interference by Windows.

Don't know about the MBR - others may be able to answer that point.

I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre K210 desktop. My hard drive ran out of room and now will not boot. I tired using 'safe mode' to delete some old files and I did recover some extra hard drive space but it still will not boot. (The .exe file that starts the OS appears to be hidden in a special 'Lenovo created partition and I am unable to find it in safe mode.)

I hooked my hard drive to another computer (using a USB device) to recover my data files but all of my data files are missing my latest saves? I seems that Lenovo creates a special type of file or partition called 'dynamic buffer.' I can only assume that my most recent saves are located there and are placed on 'C drive' when I 'release the dynamic buffer' (of course did not happen when the hard drive became full.)

Lenovo web site has a 'recovery' program but (if I understand correctly) it reformats the hard drive and reinstalls the OS. If this is true, all my data would be losted.

My best solution would be to be able to 'boot up' from my hard drive. I tried the OS cd to repair the boot problem but apparently it does not know where the special .exe file is and nothing is fixed.

The second best solution would be to find a software program that can extract my data from my hard drive. Anyone know of one?

Answer:recover missing program files

ALL program files have disappeared? That would pretty much mean the computer doesn't work at all. So, I'm thinking that's not exactly what's going on.

You'll need to describe the computer and the problem in a bit more detail including what operating system this is, what exactly is happening with the computer (does it boot?), what you've tried, etc.

If this is Windows XP or Vista, running System Restore to a point previous to this problem would be the first thing to try.

I recently tried this software ( http://www.iolo.com/?source=SR4 ) to recover deleted files. I was dissapointed to find that many of the MP3 files that were recovered, were broken up into much smaller MP3's, or fragments of the original MP3. I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a better piece of software.

Answer:Program to recover deleted files

If the files are scattered on the drive due to fragmentation then thats how then are going to turn out when you recover them.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Equium and when I turn it on it loads up but the screen where you login doesn't show up, It has a black screen with a mouse, and I need to use the recovery disk to get it back to normal, but I don't want to format the hard drive as I have lots of files on there so is there anyway to recover them files?

Answer:How to recover files before using recovery disk?

Hello

In my opinion the easiest way is you remove the HDD of your notebook and put it into an external HDD case. Then you can connect this external HDD now to another computer and have access to files on your HDD and you can make a backup.

Alternative you can boot from a Linux Live CD and backup your files on another USB devices.

I recently (yesterday) had an issue where my PC green screened and then wouldn't boot windows. After running several diagnostics to make sure it wasn't hardware related I decided to reinstall windows, problem, I have several important documents and media files on my hard-drive that aren't backed up yet (stupid I know), however, this isn't a problem as hp recovery manager presents me with the option to back up my files before I reset, brilliant. I create the backup media, then reset. After boot up everything runs smoothly until I try to use the media backup I created, Hp recovery manager says it can't run a media recovery as it's no longer supported after windows upgraded. My PC came installed with windows 10, I created the backup with the same version, literally everything is the same. For some reason I can't recover my data despite the fact that its sitting on my external hard-drive (in the hp back up format). Please help, if I'd known there was an issue I'd have removed the hard-drive and had my data recovered.

Hi,

I was partitioning my HDD using Acronis and when it rebooted there was an acronis error which corrupted Windows. (I got the error message "WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT:
<WINDOWS ROOT>\SYSTEM32\HAL.DLL")

I used the XP CD and the recovery console and noticed that the folder structure was still there but there was no Windows Folder!

I installed Windows and selected "leave the current file system intact" option. It loaded windows and I still have my Program Files, full of programs and the previous domain users in the Documents and Settings folder.

Is there any way I can "re-register" all my programs in program files with Windows? I'm guessing it might be something to do with the registry?

Other info -

When i booted the PC I now get 2 options to boot for Windows XP Pro, both look the same, with no programs available.

There is only 1 program files folder, there is no Program Files.old

any ideas?

Answer:Recover Program files after Windows XP reinstall

They need to be reinstalled as though they were new. Most programs also have components in the Windows directory (now lost) and many other locations. Those all need to be restored as well as all the registry entries.

I heard that it is possible to restore system state to factory conditions (kind of like a reformat) by pressing the blue ThinkVantage button when windows is loading (I am using XP). Does this process require the windows XP cds? How thorough of a cleanup is this method?I use a Thinkpad T60p-2007 running WinXP

Answer:Data Recovery Program Help

Using the Blue button does not require the CDs.   This assumes you  sttill have a valid recovery partition on your hard drive.  It's the same as using the CDs however, in that the visible drive partition is reformatted and the system is re-loaded as it arrived from the factory.

Anyways, I forgot what it was called and don't seem to have the program any more. Little help?

I got myself in real trouble when I tried to update the BIOS. Somehow the procedure corrupted a lot of system files and I couldn't boot. The recovery console in Windows XP would not even recognize the hard drive (Maxtor 300gb) anymore as a valid drive. I wanted to avoid re-formatting (thus losing data), so I purchased a separate hard drive (200gb Maxtor) and installed system on that drive.

So now my computer is working again, but my data is residing on my old drive. The drive is recognized, but Windows says there is zero data on it.

However, I used trial version of ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery) and the program works, it sees the data files but you need to purchase the program to transfer them. I'd buy it, but they want $80 for a single-user license. That's just too much money for a program I'll probably only use one time.

Does anyone know a good (maybe free) recovery program?

thanks

Still cleaning up after an infection by AntiVirus Soft and subsequent Restore & Recovery. I downloaded Recover My Files which shows up approximately 15,000 files that were inaccessible after the Restore. My question is for anyone who has experience with recovery programs. When these programs find and restore data what form is it in? The programs state that the data should be saved to a different drive than the one being searched, is the recovered information just raw data or what. As an example if you were trying to restore Quicken would the Quicken program be restored with the data in place and intact or just the raw numbers. In particular what I'm trying to restore is the program Family Tree Maker, I can find the raw information i.e. photos, etc. but what I want is the program operating with names, dates, photos etc as entered in the program.
I would appreciate any thoughts or advice, thanks in advance

Answer:Using a data recovery program

A recovery program will attempt to recover files that have previously existed on the drive. Any that can be recovered will simply be placed on the recovery drive as a bunch of files, you won't be able to re-install programs for example. All except very simple programs have to be installed into Windows, set up with registry entries etc by the program's installer, so need to be re-installed from the original media.

When you try to do the recovery after a system restoration, it's also possible that some of the files you want may have been corrupted by being overwritten during the restore. If that has happened to a file, when recovered it will be no good.

For a recovery of Quicken, you would have to set up Quicken again on the recovered system, then you would need to have recovered a good .QBW file and copy it across. You could avoid this if you had a Quicken backup on other media, you could restore the backup into the fresh installation of Quicken.

I have no experience of how Family Tree Maker manages its database, but the principle is the same. If you recover the data file(s) it uses, re-install the program from the original installation media, and copy the recovered data file(s) back to the folder(s) they were in before. If the program accepts this state of affairs, it will function as before. If the program fails to recognise the files restored this way, it may only be possible to restore from its own backup. Then if you haven't been making backups stored o... Read more

I messed up somehow trying to do a repair. Somehow I did a full install. Lost everything. I seem to recall reading that it is still possible to retrieve my data. I've been searching on Google, but haven't found what I am looking for yet. There might have been one program I saw that could do it, but I can't afford to pay the $200 asking price.

This is for a personal home computer. Not for business. I have family photos loaded from a digital camera that can't be replaced. Also quite a few pictures emailed to me that probably can't be replaced either. Plus some text files that are important only to me. (And maybe my son-in-law if I have to go back to court again. )

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to watch a movie I have stored on my computer (MPEG) on my PlayStation Portable. I know that only .MP4 files can be played and I know there are video file format conversion programs available to download from the internet. I've downloaded 2 before but neither worked. I've followed their directions in moving the files to the correct PSP folder and with the correct renaming, but nothing seems to work. I know this can be done and my PSP does play UMD and downloaded MP4 movies (I have downloaded an MP4 clip from the PSP website so they could show me how to download movies). I have been able to do everything on a PSP but this so far (excluding downloading a game demo, which I don't care about that much). Also, I have the newest Firmware for it (2.71) so I don't understand.

If anyone can help me with this it's very appreciated. Thanx.

By the way, I started Hiden as mini Windows XP environment Do you think I can somehow run the recovery program from those files? If it is possible, how I can proceed? Thank you very much.

Answer:Data Recovery Program Wanted

Hello,

If you sent the nokia model to be repaired, odds are that you have lost it all, normally you can use tools to recover info of the card and phone tools for example pc file recovery and recovermy files. but as I found last year, if nokia recieve a damaged phone, they hook it up to a diagnostic machine, if it fails the test they remove the insides and replace them with new ones.

To see if this is the case, type *#0000# a set of numbers appear, look for the set in date format, is it similar to the date you purchased the phone give or take a couple of months?

Hi,
During a recent reformat, I accidentally lost some photos I thought I had backed up. Can any recommend a good program that I can use to get those back?

I found one that was good, but it charged a hefty amount for 1 gb worth of recovery. I don't need near that amount.

thanks.

Answer:data recovery program suggestions

I think the cheapest you're going to find is called "GetDataBack" from http://www.runtime.org

It comes in FAT32 and NTFS formats. Check to see what you drive is formatted in before ordering.

It's about $70, but it's saved me on several occasions and does a really good job, so long as you haven't made too many changes to your hard drive recently. Any time you add files or software, you run the risk of over-writing recoverable data. You should also plan on having a separate drive to recover the data to.

Hi all

I have a 2.5" Hitachi HTS541680 hard drive that has died and will not boot.

I proceeded to connect it to a caddy but it will not appear in My Computer, i then tried to load it up using a recovery software tool called GetMyDataBack but it doesn't see my hard drive does anybody know why?

Strangely i tried a different recovery software tool which did locate the failed hard drive but could not continue to recover the data due to "bad sectors encountered" it then went on to show no partitions available.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You need to give yourself a full permission and take ownership of the folders.

1. In Windows 10 type cmd.exe into Start Menu, right-click on Cmd.exe, and open it as an administrator.

2. Type following commands:

Code:
Takeown /f D:\Windows /r /D Y

Takeown /f "D:\Program Files" /r /D Y

Takeown /f "D:\Program Files(x86)" /r /D Y

Attrib -s -r -h D:\ProgramData

Takeown /f D:\ProgramData /r /D Y

Icacls D:\Windows /grant %Username%:F /t /c

Icacls "D:\Program Files" /grant %Username%:F /t /c

Icacls "D:\Program Files(x86)" /grant %Username%:F /t /c

Icacls D:\ProgramData /grant %Username%:F /t /c

After executing the commands try deleting the folders.

So I'll try to give an exact account of what has happened.

85 GB of ISO files in a folder on my desktop.
I drag and drop the folder into an opened folder window. (this folder is futher in my /C)
New folder is created and a message says some files is in use and stops immediately.
Close program, delete partial folder created.
Message says files too large for recycle bin do you want to perm. delete them. Yes.
Drag and drop folder again, nothings there when I open it.
The whole process took no time at all. Never once did I see a status bar even blink on the screen. No waiting time whatsoever.

Here's the fun part.

My drive properites shows a 85 GB decrease in size and no .iso files show up in a search.
I tired one file recovery freeware program and only 8 of the iso's even showed up. All were "over written" and not recoverable. Restarted the computer. Ran it again, now no iso's show up.

I had a pretty knowledgeable programer help me through the above steps and they tried several options I can not describe, because they involved command prompt and other things I'm clueless about. Unfortunately Windows is not their hot subject, so suggestions are more than welcome.
Any ideas as to where the heck the files went? Is it worth it to try other recovery programs or will that just increase my chance of actually writing over the iso's?

After experiencing an error with windows, it wouldn't start up and said I was missing the hal.dll files, I fired up the windows recovery program. It worked like a charm, replaced windows and the hal.dll file, however all my folders with docs and pictures on the desktop that were there previously (which accumulated over years) were not there anymore. Is there any way to recover these missing folder and files? They weren't saved on the c: directly but only on the desktop. I tried system restore but it said there were no system recovery points I could recover from.
Does windows make a backup of these desktop files before it deletes them?
Please help anyone, thanks!

Answer:System recovery for xp deleted my personal files on desktop, can I recover them?

If the computer hasn't been used much since the recovery most of your files will be intact.

The tricky bit is getting them back. The only real way to retrieve your data is to remove the hard drive, plug it into another computer as a second drive and run a piece if recovery software over it.

The first two links are to free recovery software, the third is paid for - this one does work very well.

Answer:recommendation for recovery software to recover folder lock files

Hello,

What do you mean when you say folder lock files? Do you mean it has the little lock icon next to the folder?

As for recover programs, we have used Easeus Data Recovery before which has worked well.

Also, I have moved your thread to another area on the forum as its not a network issue.

Answer:What data recovery program do computer shops use?

File Scavenger and Recover My Files are both great recovery programs. Along with Winhex as a disk editor there isn't much I can't recover from a freshly trashed drive.

For partition recovery Acronis disk Director is hard to beat. I had to purposely ruin a raid 1 array because of a motherboard change. Disk Director found all 5 partitions and rebuilt the partition tables. I didn't loose one file.
