Preferred Solution: cannot open pdf document from web

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running XP and Word 2000 and Nortons. Word will crash if you leave the document open for a while (there is no specific time frame) and then select close (icon). The error - Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. The details are: AppName: winword.exe
appver 9.0.0.3822
Modname: kernel32.dll
modvers: 5.1.26002180
offset 0001eb33

This has pretty much happened since I got this laptop. I have reformatted and reinstalled everything (due to another problem) and still have the same problem with word. I have used the same CD on other computers to install word and they do not have the same problem.

I use a variety of templates and plain documents in my work and can not pin point it to one template.

If you leave Word open with a document (no matter what size) and come back to it later this is when the problem happens. I started to get around it my saving first then closing, but this no longer works. The save completes and then I select Close and this is when it happens - you get the dreaded pause and then you hear the whirl of the computer and then you get the Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. Firstly I could put up with it but is now just a nusiance.

Hi,

I work at a small non-profit and we have updated two computers with new computers running Windows 7. We use MS Word 2003. I have checked all threads on forum related to this issue, but nothing seems to correct our problem. I would be grateful for any help.

Description of issue: With a Word document open, one should be able to click "File" > "Send To" > Mail Recipient As Attachment", or any of the other mail options, and have the email composition window of Thunderbird pop up. What happens is that Word is attempting to send the attachment via Windows Live Mail. The computer basically freezes. If you try and abort or get out of Word, and error pops up stating you can't close Word until the email has been sent. Finally, you have to force a shut down of the computer.

Internet Explorer shows Thunderbird as default email client. I have check all of the other obvious places for setting the default email client, but I can't seem to find a conflict anywhere on the computer showing Windows Live Email as default client.

As a side note, this employee was using Outlook Express as their email client prior to the computer upgrade and all setting were imported into Windows Live Mail, which was initially used. The employee did not like Windows Live Mail, so I installed Thunderbird. It is used as the default email client and the only issue has been with Word. Additionally, I know that the document could be sent from Windows Explorer by right-cli... Read more

I was working on a document (word 2003) and received an error message that it had to close. I had previously saved it to my flash drive. Now I can not find it when I go to "open" in Word but it is listed on the right side of open page. I click on it and get "error tying to open file". Also when I try to remove flash drive i get "device can not be stopped now"
I'm afraid to do anything in case my document can still be retrived.
Thanks
higsus

Answer:help! can't open my document

Welcome to TSF!

Word might not have released the file when it closed. That would prevent you from stopping the flash drive for removal.

Word should have opened a temp file that it uses, so the original should be safe, but there is no guarantee.

I would first open Windows Explorer/My Computer and see if you can copy the file from the flash drive to your hard drive.
Open Task Manager (right click the Taskbar, click Task Manager) and see if Word is listed on the Application tab (as Microsoft Word), or on the Processes tab (Click the Image Name column to sort alphabetically, will be listed as WINWORD.EXE) If it is, highlight it and click the End Task/End Process button. Now try to stop and remove the flash drive.

You can also just restart Word, it may be able to recover from right where you left off.

I send out a PDF formatted newsletter on a mass mailing via e-mail. One of the recipients suddenly cannot open the document. They have checked the Microsoft firewall is off (classes PDF documents as liable to corrupt the computer!) and have Adobe Reader 7 installed. Up to now no problems reported with earlier mailings and I have not used anything different in converting the original Word document. I am told that there have been no alterations to their computer set up for some time.Would a virus cause this or is there something else that I am missing in the problem? Any thoughts gratefully received.

Answer:Cannot open PDF document

If its just one person that cannot open it then obviously the problem is on their end. What I would suggest initially is to send it to them again and see if it works the second time if not then ask them to delete and reinstall Abobe and see what that does.If everyone else gets it fine and only one person doesn't then the problem has to be their computer and not anything you have done.

The utility program sometimes does that.

AdwCleaner

but if the scanned document was saved to word as a doc file. right click the document to open. if the document was saved as pdf open with a program like sumatra.

I have received an email with a docx document attached, can anyone tell me how to open and edit it.
Thanks

Answer:How do I open a docx document

docx is file format for Microsoft Word for versions 2007 and later. If you have Microsoft 2007 or later, you can open it with Word. WordPad in Windows 8, and maybe Windows 7, will open docx files but certain features may not be displayed because WordPad simply is not designed to create docx files.

If do not have Microsoft Word and your version of WordPad will not open docx files, another option is to download and install LibreOffice and use its word processing component, called Writer, to open docx files.

If you have an older version of Microsoft Office, such as 2003 or XP(2002), you can download a free add-on from Microsoft that will enable those versions of Word to open docx files. See http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3 for this free add-on.

It would probably depend on what is in the document you are trying to open. If it has any background macros or code, WordPad may be incapable of opening it.

Do you know anything about the doc?

I just upgraded office 2007 to office 2016. On all of my fils that I made with my older version can be opened with 2016. But if I create a new document with Word 2016 and save it, when I try to open it a message pops up telling me that this is valid only with installed products. When I open it, I do have the option to "open with". I can choose 2016 and it opens. When the option "open with" comes up I would think that there would be another choice that says "always" open with but it doesn't. So nest time I have to go through the same steps to open it.This happens only with Word but not Excel. My OS is windows 10.

I'm running XP Pro Service Pack 2, with MS Office XP Version 10.0.6789.
I have already modified the registry per kb 918165.

When I try to open a Word document, there are 2 messages which display in succession, and then repeat:
"The language DLL 'VBE6INTL.DLL' could not be found."
"The Visual Basic environment could not be initialized."
Each time, I have sent the error report to MS.

After a few tries, it offers to open Word in safe mode. From there I can modify my document as I intended, but I cannot open a document without going through this.

Can you tell me how to correct this?

Answer:Word document won't open

Not sure but next time you open I would "Select All" > Copy and create a new document and paste, save this new copy with a slightly different file name, eg. xxxx1.doc. Often copy and resaving a doc can salvage them to a more "fuctioning
state".

WARNING IF YOU HAVE EXCESSIVE EMBEDDED EDITTING FEATURES WITHIN DOC MAY BE LOST, eg table links, hyperlinks, pictures, etc.

From personal experience, embedded editing can cause doc file size to blow out but also increase likelihood of corruption occuring. If there are many tables, graphs, pictures often best to save them in a sperate doc (if many of these then several seperate files) and call them appendices.

I can't remember which disk I used to install MS Word 2002 on my laptop. I tried Works 8.5 and all the disks in MS Works Suite 2000 and a Word Perfect disk. I might be completely off base with all of this. And maybe it's not even possible to open this document.

download open office from www.openoffice.org (it's free). Use that to open it, save it as a .doc extension, then give it a shot.

This also appears to be happening with Office 97 applications and XP machines at work. It has only started happening since our IT consultant upgraded all machines with the latest MS updates and service packs. Are Microsoft poisoning their offspring?

Hello sir,I copied a word document in a pen drive from pc and opened it in another pc but it does not open and displaying a window showing 1. windows 2. ms-dos 3. default. and it showing a .docx. file. More over i tried to convert it in .doc but it showing a message that the ".exe format "will not convert.

Answer:how to open a .docx. document in .doc?

First of all go to "Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab" and make sure the blob is in "Show hidden files, folders and drives".Recheck the file extension to make sure there is not an "exe" showing. If so it is likely a virus.Doc and docx are quite different. Docx is a compressed file and requires the right program. What Word Processor program are you using (give its year too if Microsoft)? Depending on your answer we can then advise you.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

MS WORD 2000 under Windows XP.Is there a way to have an existing document open at the bottom or end of the document rather than at the top or beginning?I have a very long document that I continue to add to and each time I open it I have to page down to the end. I am aware that I can execute a "GO TO A PAGE NUMBER" but I would have to remember from one session to the next how many pages there are in the document. I don't believe Win 10 itself has such an app. Sometimes your computer manufacturer will have included something. Otherwise you need a package such as Word or equivalent. Question: Open Document Text

I need to open 'Open Document Text' documents in Word 2002. These have been received prepared in the Open Office WRITER programme, part of the Open Office Suite. Any ideas, please?

Answer:Open Document Text

I don't use OpenOffice myself so I could be wrong but I don't think that MS Word can open OpenOffice Write documents if they have been saved in its native format. You could ask the person who sent you the documents to save them in Word format from the File Save As dialogue and choose MS Word (.doc) in the File Type drop down box. Of course, since OpenOffice.org is free for personal use you could download it click here and install it on your own PC. If you choose a custom install you can install just the Writer if that's all you need.

You may have got .docx files set yo open in Adobe. Rather than clicking the file, right click and select the 'Open with' option, then tell it to use Word. Make sure that the option to 'always use the selected program...' is checked and this should solve the problem permananently.

I have a Word document which I cannot open, and which cannot be opened by two other people on different computers. It was created in Word 2010, saved as Word 97-2003, emailed to a person with Word 2007, who made some editing suggestions using "Track Changes", saved it without changing the file type, and emailed it back to the creator. Now, nobody - including the person who did the "track changes" is able to open the document with the editing suggestions, and I'm trying to work out why.

The document was originally created on a Windows Vista machine, the editing was done on a Windows 2007 machine, and I have tried to trouble shoot on my own computer, which runs Windows 2010 64, with Office 2010. When I try to open the document by double clicking it, the Word Logo appears, saying "opening in protected view", but then nothing more happens. Word never opens completely. Word has not frozen, because clicking "cancel" closes it down. If I open Word first, and open the document from "file - open" the same thing happens - "opening in protected view" and then nothing.

I assumed that the document had been corrupted somehow, but the really wierd thing is that Outlook 2010 is able to preview the entire file, and I am able to open it without any difficulty in Open Office 3. The the whole document is there, without any corruption. If I then save the file within Open Office as a .doc file, and a new name, Word is still unable ... Read more

I didn't include all other info, since I don't think it's relevent to ability to resolve this issue.
I'm sure I found solution to this once before - and as I recall, the problem is caused by sender creating document with a different version of (Corel WordPerfect) software than the version I use.
The document I'm unable to open is in .wps format, 619 KB. The error message I get (when I opt to open) is: "C:\DocumentsandSettings\myname\LocalSettings\TemporaryInternetFiles\OLK19\doumentnamewps cannot be opened or retrieved."
I then tried saving document (with same .wps ending) - and still can't open.
Since there will be a continued exchange of documents with the person that sent me this, I need to resolve the problem on my end. Ironic - he doesn't experience problems opening the files I've sent, in any format (WordPerfect, MS Word, pdf).
I'm thinking I left out a step when I saved document?
Is there anything I can do to be able to open these (wps) email attachments? Or am I going to have to continue to save first (with whatever step I'm missing) first?
Would purchasing a different version (of anything) permanently eliminate this problem?

Hi, I think many has this problem as I found it in other forums without clear response. Sometimes my Internet Explorer 9 does not like Adobe Reader 9. So I open a document pdf which has no security issue, and I just click on the save a copy icon. The icon responds with a virtual click. And that's it. Does not appear the radiobox where I can chose where and how to save. Nothing happens. And I can't find the downloaded pdf in any temporary folders either (I can index system folders and do a search there). So I have to go to another computer where I do the same in Firefox and it works, I can save the pdf file. But this is not OK that I have to use someone else's computer. I just wonder why these intelligent guys who create IE and AR can not make something that works? And since years this problem has been existing. Any idea how to patch it? Cheers and happy new year !

Answer:Save a copy of a PDF document open in IE9 does not do anything

In IE9, enable the classic menu-bar which is disabled by default.

Now when you open a PDF in IE9 via the Adobe Reader plugin, just click File >> Save as. It will save it as a PDF file with a default filename.

Whilst using Word to try to continue writing a saved document the document disappeared when an unknown key was accidentally pressed. According to the files listing, the file was still saved, however, only a blank document is downloaded from the files listing. If the folder "My Documents" is opened from the Desktop, the file is listed with a file size of about 19k and, if the cursor is moved over the filename, the first sentence of the original document is displayed indicating that the contents are correctly saved somewhere in the computer.
