Erratic CUP Usage

Question: Erratic CUP Usage

Hello,

My problem began a while back, let me explain. (Note: This is a Sony VAIO Laptop I will be referring to)

First I only noticed it in movie files, where they would become choppy and lag after watching them for awhile. Then I looked in my Windows Task Manager.

For some reason, alot of different programs are starting to take alot of CPU. Normally the movie player of choice will just keep slowly rising in CPU usage until it hits 100% and freezes, but I have had other strange things happen.

For instance, my Pop-Up Stopper Companion would rise from a 04% CPU usage to a 30% CPU usage all while watching a movie file.

And these are files on my computer that I have downloaded as well as DVD's.

At this point I am beggining to believe that it is a memory leak or some other type of problem with the CPU and how its being dished out to all of my programs, because this does not affect just movie files (For some reason Audio happens to play just fine).

But it happens the same when I try to run games on this computer.

I have tried a number of things to fix this already, and I will list some of them.

1. I have run just about every virus and spyware program known to man. I own Spysweeper and I have ran Spybot, Ad-aware, RegSeeker, Bazooka, the list goes on and on.
2. I have tried using different screen resolutions on the advice of a friend, but that didn't work either.
3. Ok, here's an interesting one. I have run RegSeeker to try and help with some Registry errors, and it found about 750 Registry errors yesterday, and almost every time I run it it finds more and more. I believe that something may be really wrong with my registry for it to be coming up with those alot. But that could be to blame to Spybot and other programs like that who delete registry stuf (Such as the history files of different programs)

The only root of the problem that I can think of is that awhile back I ran some corrupted MIDI files, but I don't know how that could have caused all of this.

I used to watch DVD's and all other kinds of movie files on this computer just fine, but for some reason it just stopped working and now they run horribly bad..

If anyone needs any more information to better diagnose this problem, please tell me what you need and how to get it and I will.

Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an HP XE3 lappy with Windows Home installed. Two minutes after boot up,the machine slows to a crawl. In Task Master the cpu usage graph goes haywire.. swinging about from zero to 100%... this lasts for about 3 minutes then the machine settles down and works normally.. I have emptied out the startup items using msconfig.. I have run the HP diagnostics and no problems are shown.. I have also run anti-virus which comes up clear..... any ideas on what is causing this?? Thanking you in anticipation.

I've been getting erratically crappy performance for a while now - slow UI, hanging programs and eventually a hanging OS that won't shut down.

It often hangs when I'm using email (Eudora7), but I think that's a red herring because even when I'm not, CPU usage often spikes into the 80% range under very little load and for no apparent reason. Just opening a folder causes a spike to 70+%.

The crash is not simply on account of CPU going to 100% either, the UI will stall for a few seconds at a time with low CPU / RAM utilization, but it seems to progress until explorer hangs. It doesn't seem to be a heat issue - everything is clean and dust free - and that wouldn't explain the cpu spikes anyway.

Nothing really pops out under Resource Monitor and I ran sfc /scannow a couple of times - no integrity faults detected.

Any ideas on how to trace this?

There are a couple of thigns that can spike that. SVCHOST, and AUDIODG come to mind but to find out which you should start in event viewer.

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source... Read more

Hey guys,
This is my very first post; I hope I can do a good job describing this problem, as I'm not particularly computer literate.

Suddenly my computer is running at 100% CPU almost all the time, erratically. I am SO frustrated-- this has happened to me twice before, and I could not figure it out, so I just reinstalled fresh copies of Windows each time. It runs fine for a while, then all of a sudden this same problem comes back. I am sick of having to reinstall all of my programs, and was hoping that maybe someone else was having a similar problem so I wouldn't have to reinstall everything again.

I have Task Manager up constantly, so I can watch it.
The least amount of CPU it uses at any given time is around 50%. The CPU seems to spike whenever I open a program (Mozilla, Norton, etc.). Once the programs are open, the CPU seems to spike whenever I "do anything" (type an address in the address bar and GO, close the same program) or "move anything" (scroll though a website). It fluctuates constantly, and the CPU usage under the Performance tab in Task Manager looks like a mountain range. If I minimize the program, it seems to be better, and when I'm sitting, just staring at the screen not touching anything (even if Firefox is up and running), it's better. It's almost like it has something to do with the graphics? It doesn't seem to take too long to start up, but as soon as I open any program, it begins, and everything is so... Read more

I've got XP Pro on a Dell M1210 Laptop with dual processor and 3 G Ram.

Does an older machine just start slowing down from age?

It just seems I can hardly have more than one thing open without it stalling. It doesn't lock up, but just gets behind and I need to sit and wait for it; sometimes for a few minutes or more.

I've got Task Manager opened and I see there are 63 processes showing. I've got Firefox and Chrome opened with just a couple taps opened. The CPU usage jumps from 5-10% up to 50% or more and I don't know why? I'm wondering if that's why it stalls; the Usage spikes and there's nothing left for whatever I'm doing?

I've Tuned services using Registry Mechanic, but have never run Mechanic on the Registry as I was once told on this or another forum that it's not recommended to do so.

Anyone have suggestion on how to get better performance out of this or to check for problem?

Thanks

I have a 3.2 GHz IBM with 1GB of ram running Windows XP SP3 and not too long ago it recently started acting strange. First thing I noticed was the system boot up became much slower, at the Windows splash screen where the blue progression bar slides along the screen and it says Windows XP, that screen now takes a good couple of minutes to load.

I also noticed when opening programs they open much slower and seems like it overtaxes the CPU when loading them up, like it spikes really high to just load a simple program such as CCleaner.

The other issue I've noticed and probably the most noticeable is when I'm downloading a file from either torrent, IE (the latest version), or Firefox the CPU becomes very erratic it will spike from 3-6% usage all the way up to 60-90% every couple of seconds and this results in a very choppy computing experience, videos will skip, programs drag along the screen at a constant choppyness.

I've taken a screen shot of Task Manager and shows how erratic the CPU usage spikes are,

As you can see there was only 20 processes running, two programs were open, system idle processes were at about 98%. When I was looking at the lists of tasks running during this file was downloading neither of the programs or any of the other system services were running over 10% CPU.

Also, my computer has been checked and is clean of any viruses, malware, trojans, spyware, the start up list is completely empty and I have managed to get my start up proces... Read more

I recently notices that my computer was running really slow and thought I might have some virus. I've run all my anti-virus scans and nothing has come up. The first thing I noticed was that it took a long time for the computer to log on after boot up like there was a big app trying to load up in the background. The next thing I noticed was that in Process Explorer the services.exe CPU usage was spiking from near zero up to as much as 40% every 3-5 seconds. These spikes are accomanied by a system slow down. I also noticed that when I'm running iexplorer the cpu usage spikes to almost 100% and really bogs down the computer, especially when I'm trying to watch videos. I'm not sure if this is caused by any virus but thought I would post the HijackThis log here to see if anyone can see something that I missed. If not a virus, maybe someone could point me to a more appropriate place to post.

Hi All. My name is Tony. I've been having some problems with my computer for about the past 6 months or so. First, I am on a dial-up connection because that's all I can afford at the moment because I lost my job about 2 years ago. But, then again, I'm cheap and have always had a dial-up connection. I have a Sony Vaio Laptop, AMD Athlon XP 1500+ processor, and 512MB Ram (that's all it will take). Running Windows XP Home. I haven't downloaded any Service Packs, yet, because it is hard on dial-up. I have downloaded some of the other Critical Updates. BUT, all of this started when I had all of the Service Packs and updates (SP3). It was running fine for quite some time with WinXP Home SP3. I reinstalled Windows about 3 months ago because of this problem.

That's how I first noticed there was something not right with my computer/connection. I used to use Firefox (exclusively) and it was very fast, even on my dial-up connection. Then I started noticing that when I would click a link on any page, at random times, nothing would happen for quite some time (amount of time would vary). I've reinstalled and tried most of the Firefox versions including the latest and greatest. I've been to the Sony website and downloaded all of the latest drivers. I was fully up to date with everything when this all started.

I use Avira AntiVirus (up to date). I have ran scans with Spybot, AdAware, SuperAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes, you name it. I haven't found any malware with any of them. Ewido did ... Read more

Answer:Erratic/High CPU Usage When Modem Connected

does your isp have different dial-up numbers and if so have you tried an alternative one?
have you installed the latest version of java that sometimes helps surfing speeds. It could be a modem problem or a resource sharing problem with windows. It's been about 10 years since I used dial up so for all I know the internet might just be outgrowing dial-up. lol. you could try google chrome or safari their pretty lightweight browsers. with your processor and ram jumps in cpu usage like your seeing are to be expected but the modem dropping connection is unusual if it happens often.

Several days ago, I don't know what precipitated it, the machine started
a jerky behavior. Let's say when playing videos, the sound and pic

I'm running AVG free and it's up to date. I also have Windows

I tried using CHKDSK (via device manager) and it found several

I suspect the hard drive is failing, but I don't know how to read a SMART report. Is the HD failing? Is that the problem? Where can I learn how to understand this report?

Hi,

I recently made a thread in the "Am I infected? What do I do now?" forum and Broni told me to come here. Here is the link http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/495027/erratic-cpu-usage-spikes-during-mouse-movement-and-every-application/page-3

I was looking at process explorer while I was watching videos on youtube and the CPU usage will bounce around between 60-100. If i click on a different tab without any streaming videos or anyting, CPU will bounc around 30-60%. When I'm idle, CPU will erratically bounce around between 2-14% and will periodically be punctuated by instances where CPU usage shoots up to 50+%. Moving my mouse with just Chrome and Process Explorer open will make the CPU jump to ~30%. Despite all this, the things Broni helped me with have really improved my computer. Booting up the computer is acceptable now and i can actually type in gchat without waiting for my computer to catch up with my fingers. However, it still feels like something is off as my computer can't watch videos without frequent stuttering and these jumps in cpu usage just seem outrageous.

Here is what I've tried on my own prior to coming here:

1) Updated all recommended drivers from dell support website
2) Windows Error-check on my C hard drive
3) Windows Disk-Cleanup
4) ran AVG, Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy to look for bugs. AVG came up negative with the viruses, Malwarebytes found no threats, Spybot found like 200 things ... Read more

Hi.

My name is David andI have 3 issues with my Dell inspiron 1420 that I would really appreciate some help with. My computer has very high CPU usage when opening applications and moving the mouse, videos stutter frequently, and I can't use System Restore. At first I thought the CPU problem was being caused by some kind of bug so I went to the "Am I infected and what do I do?" forum. Broni, helped me and concluded it was not a malware problem. He referred me to the Malware Removal section and Gary helped me there. He also believes that it's not due to malicious stuff. Here are the links to the threads  in case you want to take a look.

Anyways, I have reset my computer back to factory settings using the recovery partition and the cpu problem still exists (but it's not as bad) and the video stuttering remains. The computer is useable now and is a lot faster when opening applications, but now I can't use the System Restore program in addition to the CPU acting weird.

So before I describe what the symptoms are, here's somewhat of a baseline taken from Task Manager when my computer is idle.

System Idle Process is usually around 94 CPU
taskmgr.exe is usually around 6 CPU

Hi everyone!

I'm not computer savvy so please be patient with me.

As the topic name implies, my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop has extremely erratic cpu usage with basically everything. When idle, it sits at around 8% or so, but if i move my mouse cursor, it will jump up to maybe 30-50% (I've seen it go higher with just mouse movement). When opening applications such as Google Chrome, Malwarebytes, etc it sometimes goes up to 100%. Because of this, my computer is unbearably slow.

OS: Vista

Here's what I tried:

1) Updated all recommended drivers from dell support website

2) Windows Error-check on my C hard drive

3) Windows Disk-Cleanup

4) ran AVG, Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy to look for bugs. AVG came up negative with the viruses, Malwarebytes found no threats, Spybot found like 200 things and I told it to remove them.

5) ran CCleaner to clear registry and temp files.

6) defrag

After all of this, my CPU usage is still erratic. I'm not sure what else to try.

I've had this computer for a long time and this has been a problem for this computer for years. It's what prompted me to buy a new laptop, but i still want to use this one for school as it's pretty compact. Help me save my computer!!

Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

Hi!

I am running Windows 8.1 on a desktop and am having problems.  My computer will suddenly start running super slow and the mouse will become jerky and erratic.  If I am able to get to the task manager fast enough, I can see that the disk usage is either 100% or very near 100% (my disk isn't really anywhere near full).  The computer will then either try to reboot or will just lock up.   Sometimes I will get a message about conhost.

My virus protection is eset.  When I do a scan the log has a long list of files it couldn't access due to another program using them.  I have tried running the scan in safe mode and it is the same thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello I'm sorry I'm new :s

My CPU is erratic hitting 100%usage when it is seemingly doing nothing as regards to processes. I have search and destroy and AVG as anti spy ware measures, but on the advice of another thread I have just also downloaded and am running a scan on Malwarebytes. I started to run an online Panda scan which identified 9 infections and 2 vulnerabilities in the time it was running but I opted to quit as I thought maybe this would get to the root of the problem faster.

I hope my vague descriptions don't go against me for at the moment I'm just trying to find the quickest way to help someone help me identify the cause.

Thank you in advance.
Edit, sorry added a pic of my system info: link http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/8717/67143039.jpg

I posted over at NotebookReview but wanted to see if you guys also had some input. I just did a clean install of W7 SP1 and have all of the latest Lenovo and Windows drivers updated. Can you please advise on some areas to look to see what the culprit is? Thanks in advance.

Answer:New x220: Horrible battery life (1 hour) / Erratic CPU usage / 30-50 watts used

Where is the post at NotebookReview? Have you tried to upgrade to BIOS 1.19? Did you done a virus scan of the whole system?

Hijack log below

Two weeks ago my Quark 7 stopped working - it will start and come up with the splash screen, but then will not go any further - a list of processes shows it's running at 50 cpu usage and 78944 memory usage. I have tried uninstalling reinstalling and have ran Norton's Antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner to no avail. I have attached my HiJack log below.

The main programs that I use daily (and yes Quark is one of them) are the following

Adobe Photoshop CS3, ACDSee 9, Outlook express, Quark 7.0, Internet Explorer, Dreamweaver 8

Thank you for taking the time - I'm pretty frustrated!

Recently my computer has been plagued by High CPU and general malware. I believe i've removed most of the malware. But I can't seem to fix the issue with the dllhost.exe and multiple explorer.exe running.

First i ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit. Found lots of issues. all resolved. Ran them recently again and no malware was found. Still have the explorer.exe issue though.

Then I used combofix, but it changed nothing.

In the meanwhile i've just been ending the explorer.exe processes that take high CPU. This allows me to temporarily use my computer before they start popping up again.

Answer:dllhost.exe, multiple explorer.exe's, high CPU usage, and memory usage

I don't know what you need me to post. Hopefully this might provide some insight.

Edit: Posted this on the wrong forum! DOH. Reported as this is for Windows 8, not 7.

Windows 10's message was typically IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, suspecting a driver issue I reformatted to 8.1 which I am on now. The message I'm getting now is PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.

My strongest suspect is memory, however HeavyLoad ran for 4+ hours maxing both memory and CPU before the system decided to restart. I also ran a Memtest86+ which passed multiple times. I still suspect a memory problem though as I am unable to boot the system with 4 sticks installed unless I have the XMP profile already activated. 3 sticks is fine, 2 sticks is fine, 1 stick is fine, different ports are fine. I tried different sticks in different slots and no change.

Tonight I am getting a lot of the following errors in the event log. This is while the computer was remaining idle on the login screen. I'm running WoW now and there are none to be seen.

Ok, I am literally KILLING myself over this!

I installed Windows 7 64Bit over XP around a month ago and it was so good that I recommended it to my brother who was previously on XP too. We got him a copy of the 32bit version as he has only 2gb of memory, and he installed it on his machine. However, he constantly had high CPU and RAM usage (Even though no programs were obviously taking it all up in his task manager) and it was making his computer sluggish and slow. Everything was freezing and hanging and it was a nightmare.

I spent a day looking all over the net to find out the problem, but could not fix it at all, no matter what the hell I tried. So he reverted back to Windows XP. (A nice waste of money on Windows 7.) His Windows XP now runs smoothly and is all as it was.

Suddenly today, after my brother connected to my Windows 7 homegroup (or workgroup rather) through his Windows XP machine, my computer got the EXACT same problem as he had ages ago! I have been browsing Google all day downloading s**t, changing things in my computer, trying EVERY possible fix that people have suggested and that sound legit. Nothing works!

So now all of a sudden, my computer is sluggish, games are jumpy and jittery, video rendering times are slooooooow.

Here is a picture of my resource monitor:
You can see the physical memory usage being at 45%. I've ordered the memory usage of each service in highest to lowest.
I just CANT see where the problem is!

I can tell you what is probably causing your problems. AVG.
When you are looking at memory, do not sort by Working set, sort by Hard faults.
Hard faults is what causes things to slow down. Plus you have plenty of memory not to worry about usage.

Hi,
I have a i7 3770k at 3.9 ghz, so stock with turbo boost.
I tried oc'ing to 4.5 ghz, didnt fix the problem.
Basically, in some games i get high cpu usage and at the same time low gpu usage.
My system is i7 3770k, gtx1070, 16 gb ddr3 ram, corsair hx850i psu.
In witcher 3 novigrad, which is cpu heavy, i sometimes get gpu usage at like 70% which causes stutter, at the same time cpu usage is around 85%.
When i leave town i get 95-99% gpu usage again and my cpu usage drops.
Dying light same, if cpu usage is high my gpu usage drops.
Battlefield 1 is normally fine in 95-99% gpu usage, except st quentin, but others reported this too.
What can this be? My cpu shouldnt be bottlenecking. Like i said i trid overclocking, didn't help.
nvcp is set to prefer maximum performance and i'm playing at 1440p 144hz.

Hi all, hope you can help.

Every so often, when listening to online radio streams/playing games etc my computer just goes crazy. I get a lot of hard drive 'chatter' and lots of fan noise and everything slows to a crawl. My music will start jumping and skipping and there is a long delay between me clicking the mouse and the action happening. It happens when no other programs (for example, my AV/AS) are due to scan. When I look at my Task Manager the two biggest eaters of memory usage are fm.exe (game, it normally eats a load but makes no substantial difference to the comp speed) and ekrn.exe (something to do with my AV, not quite sure what it actually does though)

I am running Windows MCE SP3 and am using NOD32 anti-virus and Sunbelt CounterSpy anti-spyware. The definitions on both are updated daily and both scan daily. I have also defragged the comp and do so weekly. The other programs I use are CCleaner and Glary Utilities, both fairly regularly to clean up my comp when I was working as an internet researcher, but less often now.

I do not get any error messages/BSOD's or actual freezes. Everything just slows right down. Could I have picked up a form of malware/virus that my AV/AS isn't picking up? Could one of my previous spring cleans have been too aggressive? Or is it simply too much load for my comp (2 year old Dell)? It is 3MHz, 1G RAM, kinda your bog standard media comp from 2007.

Your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated as it's starting ... Read more

When you experience or encounter strange behavior, always check for new, unknown or suspicious processes in Task Manager. Most of the processes in Task Manager will be legitimate as shown in these links.List of common system processes found in XP's Task ManagerCommon system processes found in XP's Task ManagerTop System ProcessesAnytime you come across a suspicious file or one that you do not recognize, search the name using Google or the following databases:BC's Startup Programs DatabaseSystemLookup StartupList IndexFile Research CenterProcessLibrary.comDetermining whether a file is malware or a legitimate process sometimes depends on the location (path) it is running from. One of the ways that malware tries to hide is to give itself the same name as a critical system file. However, it then places itself in a different location on your computer. Another techinique is for the process to alter the registry and add itself as a Startup program so that it can run automatically each time the computer is booted. Every 10-40 minutes, the application I'm currently working in [whither it be skype, L4D2, or firefox] becomes unresponsive, and after a minute or two, the window turns white, notifying me that it's not responding. This unresponsiveness quickly spreads to other open processes, rendering them frozen as well. I can still use the mouse, and it appears rainmeter still responds [updates, showing barely any CPU usage].

Steps I've taken to try and resolve this:
Using only one main program, still does it
turning the computer off and on again
Memtest is clean
chkdisk passes
MBAM/MSE scans return nothing
defragged
no memory overflows that I can see

While troubleshooting, I noticed that during the 'fit of unresponsiveness' the disk usage light on my tower is solid, but when I looked at the disk usage in the resource monitor, no processes whatsoever were using it [screenshot related]

If any more specifications are needed, I'll be happy to elaborate.
Thanks!

Answer:Frequent unresponsiveness, 100% hardware disk usage, 0% software usage

It could be indexing. What if you turn off indexing just as an experiment?

Hi,

Just yesterday I realized that my computer was acting super slowly and I even received a blue screen of death out of nowhere. Upon checking my processes list,I found many suspicious processes that continued to multiply when I tried to end them. These included: PresentationHost.exe, msdtc.exe, dllhost.exe, prevhost.exe, cmd.exe, msiexec.exe, conhost.exe, and even a notepad.exe that seems to be invisible. A malware is most likely behind this, and is causing my computer to perform very slowly and be almost unusable, I have managed to run FRST, but Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not even opening for me. In addition, this multiplying issue seems to only occur when I am connected to the internet. I would highly appreciate some help!

Hi,

I just bought my brand new laptop and have loaded Vista Ultimate 32bit onto it for about 5 days. I noticed something unusual about Vista's CPU usage while idle in the task manager as well as the Resource monitor.

I have attached two pictures to show my problem. Notice that my CPU usage is always at about 40-60% on both of my cores. However, the average CPU usage per process shows that it should actually occupy about 15% to at most 20% (by adding up all the highest average CPU for processes in the first picture). The second picture I attached shows the current CPU usage sorted by max usage, and again it does not add up to 41%!

Although at 40-60% usage, I do not notice any major performance impacts, as both cores are not loaded to the max. However, I do notice Vista chewing up more battery than needed when I have my laptop running off batteries. Because the max frequency for the processor would always need to be raised to around 60% even when idle (instead of say... 10-20%).

I have searched online for various problems relating to high CPU usage, and most of the responses are about tracing down which process is the culprit. Well, this is where I'm stumped because it all does not add up! According to the process view, everything is normal but my system resources are still get constantly chewed up by something invisible it seems.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point!

Answer:Vista Ultimate 32: high CPU usage does not correspond with process usage

Posting two more image to show this problem from the task manager...

Notice that the system idle process is 84, and yet CPU usage is 42? I always thought that:
CPU usage + idle process = 100?

Perhaps things are done differently with dual core processors? This is my first dual core so I'm not sure. The second image shows how both my cores are being used roughly equally, at around 50%.

Hi guys, hope you can help me please. I'm not too computer savvy so sorry if I'm missing something important or I say something dumb. I'm really frustrated and I'm trying my best to learn and solve this problem.
So I bought this Vaio with Core i5-3210M, 4Gb Ram, Windows 8 64 bit. I had really high hopes for it, coming from an i3. For the first few weeks it worked fine, but then it started to freeze while watching movies. Then it started happening all the time, and the cooling fan became consistently noisy for working at full capacity.
I was used to opening task manager on older systems when this happened to see if there was a non-responding program and force it closed, so I noticed Task Manager offers some more features in Win 8. Here, I see that CPU usage is high, staying always around 70% and from time to time reaching 100. At this moment, the process taking the biggest slice is called VCS System Tray with 58%.
What's perhaps more concerning, is that Disk usage is almost constantly on 100%. And by this I mean it reaches 100 and stays there for long periods of time, perhaps up to 20 minutes, then it falls down a few seconds and up again to 100. During this time the computer is excruciatingly painful to use. To even open a program takes forever. When this happens, it seems that Chrome is at the top of the list of processes with most disk usage, with about 1-2Mbps, but this sometimes changes and the list can be led by System, Utorrent, Octoshape, VCS System Tray, Communication... Hi, welcome to the forums,
Go to Device manager(right click bottom left corner), uninstall the "VAIO care" driver, get the new driver from Sony support:Sony eSupport - Computers - Support
Install and see whether it helps, check your system for virus infections with Malwarebytes as well.

Greetings,

I formatted my computer, and after installing windows 7 again, my physical memory in task manager is very high, and cpu keeps jumping up and down.

I looked at the processes tab, but noticed absolutely nothing taking abnormal memory (private working set.) Then moved on to performance tab> resource monitor, and found svchost (I think it was netsvcs in parenthesis,) hogging all the memory. After ending the process, I still have had high memory usage, and surprisingly, do not see a process anywhere in task manager with high numbers next to it, so I have no idea what's happening.

I have noticed that my windows 7 folder keeps increasing in size, currently about 26 gigs, and a helper told me that it's normal because the updates in windows 7 have a different compression method than windows 8 and after, however when I had previously installed windows 7, fully updated... my folder size was normal, so I assume it can be done?

I originally posted in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs section, however I did not find malware on my computer, so unless it's very new malware, I am certain windows 7 is causing this problem.

For antivirus, I am currently using a free trial of Norton.

Advice?

P.S. This is probably better for the hardware section, but can constant high physical memory, and cpu usage ruin my hardware? I am avoiding using things that take up high cpu and memory right now, and it's currently about 1.2 g... Read more

My friend, who has a very low income was given a Dell Optiplex GX240 running Win2K Pro. 512MB RAM

To help her out, I got rid of porn, viruses, and spyware using:

Ad-Aware, AVG spyware and AV free versions, Trend Micro House Call, Spybot

I checked the task manager, and has constant 100% CPU usage, avg memory usage

The system runs, but apps open slow, so I tried some freeware reg cleaners:

CCleaner, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, Wise Registry cleaner

After hours of searching on web, the fixes I found don't work, so I give up. Can someone help. My friend doesn't have the money to pay someone to fix this, and she was so happy to get a new computer.

Can anyonre help???

Question: Erratic fan

I've just purchased a nearly new ProBook 430 G3. Everything is working fine except the fan is behaving erratically. While idle the fan is off as expected, during intensive tasks the fan runs at full speed, again as expected. However while browsing the web, using Visual Studio etc the fan starts running but doesn't keep a constant speed. It constantly speeds up and slows down, its subtle  but noticeable. I've used lots of laptops over the years and never seen this behaviour before. All the latest drivers have been installed along with the most recent BIOS. Anyone know if all 430's do this or is mine faulty? Thanks

Question: Erratic DVD

I am having problems with DVD/Video. I edit files into a full movie - approximately 5 mins long. I drop in an audio file to use as background music and everything proceeds as it should. I then get the message that everything has saved as it should. When I try to play it back it starts ok and then starts to "stutter" and drop out. The same thing happens when you burn a DVD and play it on an external DVD player?
Anyone out there know why ?????

Answer:Erratic DVD

what brand and model of DVD Burner? and what media are you using?

Question: Low, erratic FPS

Hi guys. Have posted here previously about hardware - i was building a new PC. I'm having some problems running WoW on it though. I have posted on the WoW support forums, but as is the standard process, they've asked me for my driver info and then ignored me. So I've come here!

Yesterday evening, I started having some strange stuttering slowdown. Every 2-5 seconds, I'll get a bit of slowdown for half a second, then I'm back running smooth again.

Previously, Warcraft would run at 60 FPS at (almost) all times, in busy cities, in raids, whatever. But after a few hours of playing yesterday, I suddenly started experiencing these low framerate spikes. It runs smooth for a few seconds, then it stutters, and then smooth, then a stutter.

I have tried:
Running with 0 addons (in-game custom UI stuff),
Fullscreen and windowed,
Lowest graphics settings,
Spyware scan (which brought up quite a lot actually - but it's clean now),
Virus scan,
Defrag (fairly new drive, so i'm at 0% fragmented, it says),
Allowing the launcher to fully patch (it now says up to date - there's a sort of streaming patch process),
Closing all processes and switching off fancy Win7 themes (my tray has my graphics utility, sound utility, mobo utility, and Microsoft's AV - nothing else).
Updating graphics drivers.

It's particularly noticeable if I try and run around somewhere quite complex, like the cities or forests. Then it's a pretty constant 10-20... Read more

HELP!My computer has become ridiculously slow, taking minutes to do nothing. The computer is quite old (4-5 years), but has had XP and MS Office installed fom Day 1. I have not added any other software which might explain the slowness. When the computer is slow, if I Ctrl:Alt:Delete, the CPU usage is sometimes very high (80%) or above, but not always, however, the Page file usage history is always at least 80/90% of capacity (value reads as nearly 400Mb).What is the page file usage history? Is this likely to be why my computer is slow and can any settings be changed, or do I have to bin the computer and buy one which works? Thanks

Hi folks

I posted this problem at Spyware Specific forum, but was advised to post here.

Recently when I use RealProducer Plus v.10 to convert mpeg2 clips to rmvb, it takes a long time to do so. When I checked, RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage - as much as 94-95%, causing total CPU usage to be 95-98%. I have scanned with Norton and Adaware - all ok. Then I used Spy Sweeper - it found and cleared Csmin. Howveer, the problem still remains when I use RealProducer.

CPU usage without using RealProducer

CPU usage using RealProducer

Will my CPU will be damaged if CPU usage is so high?

Please help to take a look at my .exe processes. Are they OK?
What is PQV2iSvc.exe?

Please advise. Thanks a lot!

Answer:RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage? Will high CPU usage damage CPU?

To answer your question about PQV2iSvc.exe is part of Power Quest drive image and Norton Ghost drive backup software.

Converting video formats can be a resource intensive process. Unless your system temps are getting really high there shouldn't be any damage to the CPU.

For over about a month now my DSL internet has been dropping randomly. It disconnects completely for a few seconds to fifteen minutes, then picks back up. This happens usually every twenty or so minutes, it's very random, so this is just a mode. The speed itself is not affected (when it's on, it's fine). I've been able to determine that the reason is somewhere on my desktop.

It's a HP Envy with intel i7 3.40 GHz. About a year and three months old, and using windows 8. I typically use google chrome for browsing, only occasionally firefox. I am connected to my internet wirelessly, which is broadcasted from the router a floor beneath me. The router is plugged into a phone jack, shared with the house phone (no problems with the phone what-so-ever). Tbaytel is my provider, and I use Kaspersky antivirus. Network details; Speed-72.0 mbps. Sent-13,936,*** and counting. Received- 244,015,*** and counting. Security type is WPA2-Personal, Encryption type is AES and we have a security key set up (That we recently changed to see if it would help, and of course it didn't).

This is what's scary;

Processes under the task manager brought up nothing, but looking at the Wi-fi under the Performance tab showed that something is definitely going on. The amount of Wi-fi usage spikes HUGE amounts! But at the time I took this screenshot, I was only running an antivirus full scan (which turned up nothing), google chrome on this site, and had both the task ... Read more

Answer:Internet cutting out from MASSIVE usage, but usage not accounted for.

About your new router...
How long have you been using it or since when did you got it?
How long has it been opened? Have you tried powercycling it? (Turning it off and then on)

Also, Have you tried testing it while your laptop is directly plugged in on your router with an ethernet cable? (Try speedtest.net)

Does this happen to other of your computers or device?
Does Tbaytel do line testing when you called them?

Hi,
I have a i7 3770k at 3.9 ghz, so stock with turbo boost.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have the following config-> Windows XP Professional SP2 which I have been using for the last 3 years.-> Updated Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 running for the last 1 year.-> No new software were installed in the last month that I can recall of.Suddenly I get this problem:1. I ran an application one day (it was winrar), and nothing starts.2. Task manager shows CPU usage as 50 (I have dual core), while memory usage remains at 84k3. After a few days vlcplayer.exe started giving the same problem-> So, I reinstalled windows (formatted my C drive and installed a fresh copy). -> Everything worked fine. I was using Irfanview.exe with no problems, but then one day again, IrfanView.exe did not start. Same problem : CPU usage was 50% while memory remained really low.-> I uninstalled it from C:/program files and installed a new copy in C:/program files --- this did not solve the problem-> I uninstalled it again from C:/program files and installed to D:/ Now it works fine...-> But now again I got the same problem with media player.exeI have tried a virus scan with Kaspersky (updated) and a scan with spybot. They both came out to be clean.Any ideas?I cant reinstall Windows as that did not solve the problem.

Answer:CPU usage increases to max (while memory usage doesnt) when I run a application

I dont know if this helps: I read somewhere about creating a drive image for easy backup. So I tried DriveImageXML, but it gave an error regarding CRC check which related to bad sectors i suppose. I ran a scan disk before installing a fresh copy of Windows. Obviously, this hasnt helped either.

I have 50GB of hard drive space reporting as unusable, seems to be the system restore data. Disk Cleanup reports the max limit for system restore is set to 7GB, but the actual used is 50GB. How can the actual exceed the max quota? I deleted all previous restore points, and did a disk cleanup, but nothing changes.

I have been having a big problem the last week with my computer. Everything is running incredibly slow. I opened the windows task manager, and it has shown very high CPU usage, often fluctuating between 80% and 100%, though sometimes staying between about 5-20%. The page file usage has been conistently high, the lowest being in the mid-600 kbs, while most often staying around 720 or 730 kbs. These patterns seem to be unaltered by the amount of programs I have running (the problem occurs even when there are absolutely no programs running) or whether I'm on the internet or not. I am very ignorant when it comes to computers, but I suspected it was some sort of spyware problem. However, after scanning with Norton 360, Spybot's Search and Destroy, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, and Microsoft Defender, only a few low-level threats showed up, and fixing them led to no improvement in my computer's performance. The slow functioning seems to be directly related to the times when the CPU usage is high.

My OS is Microsoft XP. My processor is 1.73 GHz. I have 504 MB of RAM. I will attach my HijackThis log below. I hope I haven't forgotten any necessary information, but I would appreciate any help you can offer. I'm becoming very frustrated.

So on Saturday of last week my PC started to run slow. I open up task manager to check what was going on and I am greeted with it showing me that I have very high CPU usage, and constant capped-out disk usage.
Over the course of the past few days I have reinstalled Windows 10, updated drivers, completely formatted my previous hard-drive, and just today I received a new SSD. However, my problem STILL persists, and I'm all out of ideas on what I need to in order to solve this.

My Motherboard is an ASUS Z97-P with an Intel i5-4690K processor. If you need more specifications, or a program to be run, then I would be happy to do so.

For further information, the system ran normally when booting from a Windows 8.1 hard-drive, and did have a blip of normal performance on Windows 10, but resumed misbehaving when the computer was re-started.

Answer:Constant 100% Disk Usage, 60-80% CPU usage. Both happen when idle.

in Task Manager sort by CPU usage and see what apps are responsible.

Question: Erratic Performace

i've been playing baldur's gate and i'm getting erratic performance during gameplay. was on the phone with game tech support and they say there is something wrong with my system's resources. here are the symptoms:

erratic game speed - sometimes very fast but mostly too slow. i have a 32 meg 3D vid card, 550 MHz PIII, 128 Meg RAM, 40 Speed CD-ROM. according to game support there should be no slow down at all while running the game on my machine.

i run nothing in background, have a defragged disk, have the latest drivers, and have no probs with Direct X. i have noticed lots of hard drive access during gameplay. there also appears to be a large amount of HDD access in the Win 98 environment.

also, there were some sound files from the game that were located in some bad clusters. i used norton disk doctor to move the files to good clusters. moving those files to good clusters did not help.

Choppy Play from the CD-ROM and Skipping Sound - when the game accesses the CD-ROM to play a movie i mostly get choppy vid and the sound skips alot when the game first accesses the disk. but sometimes it is fast and there are no skips.

the game teases me when it runs fast. it is so much more enjoyable to play. but mostly it runs slow and it is becoming frustrating. my guess is that i'm having a HDD problem or sound card problem, any thoughts are appreciated.

Hi,

I have a Dell Studio, since I bought I have had problems with the cursor being erratic. Dell has not been able to pinpoint the problem. My Hard drive crashed and when they replaced it and at the same time replaced the touch pad, everything worked fine until I restored the old files to the new hard drive. I do not know if it is a file or what but have run antivirus software and nothing comes up. Please advise.

Question: erratic mouse

Just after start up my mouse becomes erratic with a mind of its own. It clicks on things opening and highlighting everything it touches. It becomes totally unworkable and I have to close down and reboot. Often it is still the same when I start up again. I have been told by one department at microsoft that it is a microsoft problem but they want me to pay to sort it. Is there anything I can do myself. Would appreciate some help with this annoying problem. Thankyou

Answer:erratic mouse

I would only guess one of a few things could cause that. Try a restore point to a time when it worked maybe for the first try. See help and support for restore point. It should allow you to go back in time when the mouse did work. I guess you could get a new mouse too and try it.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

In the passed, I could associate a file with the correct program to run it. Now I can't.Can anyone suggest a remedy?Windsor

Answer:Erratic fie associations

I think you may have to provide a bit more information Windsor for sometime to answer this one - ie: what has happened that you can no longer do this - also operating system would help.A couple of things might have happened. The most likely answer is that you once had a program on your computer that was able to work with this file extension, and now the program is gone. You might have uninstalled the program or deleted it in some other way. Or you could have installed a new program on your computer that supports this file type. New programs often make themselves the default viewer for certain file types. If you later uninstalled the newer program, you might still have a program on your computer that will open the file type, but it is no longer associated with those files because of the newer program that was once installed. To fix this problem, just right-click the file that you want to open, and choose the appropriate program from the Open With choices.

Question: Erratic Keyboard

A friend is having trouble with his laptop running XP with a wireless broadband connection. When he types on the keyboard random letters/numbers/symbols appear. He has AVG 8.0, Windows Defender and Adaware running. He uses Windows firewall and has seen this come up with 'firewall turned off' when loading although he is not aware of having done anything that may have affected this setting. He has reverted to a previous system restore point and the keyboard works correctly for a while but then reverts to the same behaviour.
No viruses have been found, he also ran WindowsOne Live Care and nothing showed up.
Any help would be welcome as I have run out of ideas.
Also, as he lives some distance away from me I need to use Remote Assistance to help him. Would using Remote Assistance be likely to have any impacton my system if he does have a virus?

Answer:Erratic Keyboard

I think Live One Care has its own firewall, so thats why the Windows XP firewall is turned off.

Doing Remote Assistance will not have any imapct on your system, viruses cannot be spread over a remote assistance session.

Question: erratic laptop

Hello, please could someone look at the attached logs for me and see if they can identify a problem. my laptop is behaving erratically. I have read and worked through the 'run and read me first' instructions and attached the requested logs. I have attached the 'ComboFix' log to a reply to this thread, I hope that is OK.
About 1 month ago I downloaded and installed 'Webroot security'. It clogged the laptop up totally with a CPU of 100% constantly. I have since removed it and reinstalled AVG free, but ever since then it has been running as if infected. I tried to install McAfee but it would not install as it said I still had Webroot on. I have removed it with 'Revo Uninstaller' and have even downloaded and run the official Webroot uninstaller, but it still shows as being on the laptop. could this be the problem?
Also, my DVD player is not running correctly, the sound is 'tinny' and the picture 'jumpy'. This is the same whether I actually put a disc in the drive or play a recorded film from an external hard drive.

Answer:erratic laptop

Here is the 'ComboFix' log to go with this posting. Thank you very much for taking the time to look at these for me. Jan

Hi, I have been having problems with the touchpad on my laptop. It seems far too oversensitve and is forever dragging things across the screen and the slightest touch selects something or closes something. It in fact is pretty unusable. I have tried updating the drivers and reinstalled the old one. I have also tried the Elan settings page and no matter what I select on there it makes no difference. For instance I turn off the tapping and dragging and dropping options yet that makes no difference. It is almost like the Elan settings are not working or are unconnected to the touchpad itself. The problem is so bad that I am having to use a plug in mouse, which works but is not what I want to do. I bought this laptop because it was so portable and the last thing I want to do is carry around a lot of other stuff. I have tried everything I know and have ran our of options. If someone could offer some advice, or there are others who are having or have had similar problems, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

Question: Erratic behavior

The last few days the computer has been very erratic. I'll try to explain what is happening but am not sure I will be able to adequately explain it.

First, and I don?t know this has anything to do with my problems, but every time I reboot the computer I get the following message or warning ? GarminLifetime.exe-.NET Framework Initialization error, and then goes on with other info. If I click OK it closes, so don?t know this has anything to do with the other problems I have been experiencing.

I burn DVDs all the time without any problems. A couple of days ago I was authoring a DVD and part way through the output received an error message stating the system was low on resources even though the only thing running was Outlook Express. There is 350 GB free on the hard drive and I have 4 GB of RAM. I rebooted the computer and didn?t start anything else, just the DVD authoring program however got the same error message.

Most of the time when I click on a link in an e-mail the IE window opens but it just sits there with the hour glass and the webpage never appears. If you try to close the window it won?t close. You have to use task manager to end the task. When you try to open a new IE window sometimes it goes to the home page, other times it just seems to hang and again you can?t close the window without using task manager.

The system seems to bog down with only a few windows open when in the past I have had two or three times as many windows open.

When I ran GMER the first... Read more

Question: Scrollbar erratic

I am having a problem with my scrollbar jumping up and down, whether it's on the web or any program I have running. If there is a scroll bar in the window, it will jump up and down or jump all the way to the bottom the the screen and stay there. This will also happen even if I take my hand off the mouse and not touch it for a while. The mouse I am using is what came with the computer. It is not a wireless mouse. It seems that the scroll wheel will seldom work when the screen is jumping. I purchased Microsoft's Windows Live OneCare to try and take care of the problem. I thought it could be a virus or spyware causing this issue but the program has found nothing. I tried sevel freeware programs on the net to detect a virus or spyware also and they found nothing. I purchased adaware also since i heard good things about it, but it has found nothing. I am using a Dimension 2400 with celeron processor and the windows is XP. I tried looking on the web for threads relating to this topic but have found none. Can someone help!?

Hey guys,

Ive recently encountered a strange problem on my laptop, but what it is i cant describe properly. I start up my computer, and ill find things like my mouse going on right click uncontrollably and my desktop icons and toolbar is frozen. This sort of stops after i exit from windows live messenger 9. But afterwards my mouse seems to spring into a life of its own, uncontrollably flashing with the right click option.

All this happened after i 'blue screen of death'ed once and received a virus link from one of my msn contacts which i DID NOT open.

Malwarebytes scan and AVG 8.5 showed no infections. Im not going to attempt ComboFix just yet

Please help, thanks in advance

Question: Very erratic mouse

Ok well I just finished reading all of the mouse threads I could and nothing seems to help my problem. This happens when I am on the internet usually, but it will occasionally happen off of it also. The mouse will sometimes lag for a moment when I am moving it around. It just stops then goes again, kind of like its stalling. Occasionally this will happen 3 or 4 times in a row. Also from time to time it will not recover from this lag and freezes totally. When this happens I am sometimes able to use my keyboard to restart normally. Other times the keyboard dies too. Question: Erratic mouse

Hi.

I've got a mouse problem that has developed independently on two different computers, one Win98, the other Win ME.

The mouse works OK when it is moved slowly, but behaves erratically when moved quickly. For example, if the pointer is in the middle of the screen and the mouse is moved quickly to the left, then the pointer will typically move crazily about in the middle third of the screen and usually end up on the right.

Drivers and mice have both been changed to no effect. The ME computer now has an optical mouse, so it can't be a mechanical problem.

The Win98 mouse is on COM1, the ME mouse is a PS/2.

I've fiddled about endlessly with the port settings on the Win98, changed ports etc. No effect whatsoever.

Any ideas?

Regards,
psmyth

Answer:Erratic mouse

I am not sure this will help, but it is something to look at.

You didn't specify the mouse brand, but usually most come with software to adjust the mouse.

What you want to do is look for the mouse speed and acceleration. Be sure the speed is set to medium...and that acceleration is set to low. It sounds like the acceleration may be set too fast, causing the mouse to act erratically

Hope that is helpful

Question: Erratic Mouse

Mouse movement is erratic and jumpy, often times skipping to the sides of the screen in arbitrary directions. When not jumping around, the mouse moves normally and controllably.

Am using the first version of Vista.
Currently using a Logitech optical mouse.
Tested with a Dell optical mouse and a Vaio ball mouse. Both also have erratic movement.
Tried with and without a mouse pad. It made no difference.

Answer:Erratic Mouse

Hello FoSho,

This is my first post to a reply on a forum so take it easy on me :)

From what I have researched from Microsoft Support and Help site that there have been issues with optical mouses not functioning properly in Windows Vista. You can refer to the Microsoft support article at this url:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932653/en-us

They do have a hotfix for it, but you have to submit a request to Microsoft Online Customer Services to obtain the hotfix at:

http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=6294451.

Hope this helps!

Since loading Vista Enterprise, I experience an erratic mouse whilst typing.
It is all over the place and it jumps all over the text, resulting in typing wherever it goes.
This is very frustrating!!

1. I have set the mouse settings to have the mouse cursor not visible whilst typing and only appear when Ctrl is pressed.
2. I am not moving my hands over the touch pad - the mouse seems to have a mind of it's own.

is there anyway to fix this?

I just "Cleaned up" (registry repairs, etc.) my R50, and now the mouse cursor does not follow my mouse in real time, but runs all over the place when there is any significant disk activity. Does anybody know of a cure for this? I uppose it is related to the priority of pointer input interrupts vs. HDD interrupts vs. display update interrupts, but I have no idea where to start finding these priority levels, or how to change them. Please help. Kron.

Question: Erratic cursor

I have read several threads with this problem, cursor or pointer moving around screen erratically and difficult to manoevre accurately, and have tried the suggested remedies to my ability: but my problem is slightly different in that it happens on my laptop, but only when using it on a flat surface, never when it is on my lap.
I use the touch pad, not a USB mouse.
Any suggestions, or have I got a laptop that takes it's title too seriously !

Answer:Erratic cursor

Has the Touch pad ever been Scrached or pressed Heavily? This can Damdge the Sensor Causing the Curso to Jump on the Screen,

Do you have a USB Mouse you could use that may be lying around? If so try that if it works fine then it would be your Touch Pad being your Issue

Hello there, my first post here

Ok let's get on with it.

I have seen this subject on a couple of other threads on other websites, but i haven't figured out a way to salvation yet.

I just bought a new PC...

I get erratic mouse movement and sound is choppy most of the time. At the same time, i noticed that it does that when my drive light (orange) blinks. Looks like it's doing something but it's hard to say. Booting up takes a little too much time i think, installing software also.

That blinking light thing doesn't always happen, but is mostly always triggered by opening or closing a window, software...etc. And when it does, it stays blinking for a good while.

When i watch the drive light, everytime i see it blink (even when idle, it blinks every 2 secs), i get a chop in sound, mouse movement, overall performance.

I remember having the same problem at work a while ago, and the tech guy had made it all better (to my amazement) in very little time and effort. Sadly I can't remember what it was. Maybe just a setting on the HD or a memory thing, i don't know.

I tried installing the video drivers and sound drivers.

Win XP professional 2002 SP2(french version)
Intel Pentium PD CPU 3.20GHz
(Supposedly a PD 945 LGA775 Dual-Core)
2 Gig Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS
Realtek High Definition Audio

ANY help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Sounds like you are having lots of trouble. Since you are saying the hard drive is always busy, and the system is laggy, I suspect the hard drive is the main problem here.

First, run a chkdisk (myComputer>(right-click the drive)>properties>tool>error checking
Also run a disk defragmentation.

The hard drive could be causing your system to be sluggish because windows relies on it for its virtual memory.

If the above steps don't work, try returning your pc to where you bought it from. Since you said it was new, I should still be under some type of a warrenty, so it can proboly be repaired for free.

Best of luck,

Question: Erratic WiFi

Hi, I have a Thinkpad T61 running an Intel 4965AGN. I've had many problems connecting to public WiFi networks, the most recent problem being at an airport lounge. The network was open, unencrypted, and other computers were using it fine. Sometimes Access Connections won't connect at all, most of the time it connects, but won't acquire an IP address (i get the first green check, and the second is a red X). I don't think its software, as i've done a full restore (for another reason), and the problem is the same. any help is appreciated, thanks,Al

Answer:Erratic WiFi

Hello, try to disable and enable your network adapter, before you try to connect to Airport network.Sometimes AC, my Version 4.52, gets no IP, when it was hibernated or in standby before. RegardsAndreasMessage Edited by Agotthelf on 09-24-2008 03:36 PM

Get it from Realtek

I would suggest to not use Daemon tools as it is a frequent BSOD causer, but it seems that you know how to use it. Decide it.

Let us know the situation.
