Manager client program and agent server program concepts

Question: Manager client program and agent server program concepts

I read in a book the article below.

A managemnet station, called manager, is a host that runs the SNMP cleint program.

A managened station, called an agent, is a router (or a host) that runs the SNMP server program.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys!

Do you know of any server-client type of program/software (shareware/licensed) that allows users (intranet/internet) to view add, edit, delete files/folders? The server application must also accommodate dynamic IP while the client side must involve minimum configurations.

It would also be great if it includes a discussion interface - chat, boards, etc.

Thank you very much!

I am having an issue with AOL software (yeah yeah... I know) freezing on me at random times and when I try to Alt-Ctrl-Del I can't choose anything in Task Manager in order to stop the non-responsive AOL program.

(I don't actively use AOL to do anything other than hangout in an old chatroom with some friends, so it is constantly up on my PC even though I rarely even type in the chat.... but I can not just NOT have it open.)

I can't Alt-Tab out of AOL, and even though the bottom Windows Notification Bar can be seen when I click on anything there it does nothing.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled AOL many times over the last year trying to fix the problem, but nothing has worked.

It doesn't freeze the entire computer because I can still hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and choose to reboot, Log Off, Change User, etc... and I usually end up choosing to Log Off and when it goes back to my Desktop to start closing windows and programs it throws up a window saying that all programs are not finished logging off and I start hitting the Cancel button so I don't have to sit through a reboot.

When AOL freezes it gives me a "working" mouse icon when I hover over AOL, and if I have a Firefox window open (over AOL) I can usually still browse around in Firefox as long as it is in that window, but I can't open (or maximize) another window.

When I Ctrl-Alt-Del and choose Task Manager it opens fine, but it won't let me choose anything after the w... Read more

Whilst working on problem with my Win10 OS, I found a bit of treacle during my examination. The Intel iCLS Client shows system environment variables for both the C:\Program Files directory and also C:\Program Files (x86). I don't see how that could be correct.

Sure enough, there are files in both locations.
That and several other Intel component appear in dual locations.

If appropriate to clean up, what steps would I use? Seems to me that uninstalling has a lot of potential to break something severely, and I suspect these won't uninstall cleanly.

I'll be chasing around looking for install files while waiting for your thoughts on the thread. Cheers.

I'm having an issue with using my PC as a citrix client and wonder if anyone can help. I need to use Citrix so I can log ito my work server and work at home instead of commuting to the office.

I've just built a new machine as I had problems with my old hardware connecting to citrix and also downloading torrent files and thought that a completely new machine would be the answer - sadly not! Although I can now run torrents I'm still having issues with Citrix.

My current OS setup is XP SP2. I am using an intel E5200 processor and 4GB of Crucial Ballistix RAM.

The issue is that although I am able to start using the Citrix Server and can open programs e.g. Outlook, once in the software will crash and tell me that there has been a server issue and that I need to reconnect. When I try to reconnect the computer will crash and give me BSOD. This has happened three times already this evening.

I've attached a copy of the debuglog from the most recent crash which seems to be saying something about a BAD_POOL_HEADER but also mentions something about usbport.sys having a problem. Quite often I will also get something about DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

Sorry if this is a bit vague - not particularly technical so clutching at straws at the moment! Appreciate any help that anybody can give me.

I work remotely at my home for a brokerage firm. We use the RSA secure ID and Citrix. With my new Vista computer I have been getting a pop up several times per day. This is what the pop up says " Change Server - Citrix Program Neighborhood Agent.
What is the name of the server hosting your published resources? Examples: servername (for non-secureconnections0 or https://servername (for secure connections).
I don't know how to answer this question and have called 1) my ISP, 2)my company technical support and 3)Citrix. No one can help me answer this question and rid myself of this pop-up.
Finally, the pop up warns "The server you specify here can be used to remotely configure Program Neighborhood Agent settings. Only specify the address of a trusted server.
Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Answer:Citrix Program Neighborhood Agent

The problem is you probably have the Citrix Neighborhood agent set to open on startup.

To remove, go to start, all programs, startup, if you see the Neighborhood agent there, opposit click on it and delete shortcut.

This should stop the pop ups.

I catch a backdoor processing virus BDS/Agent.AY and I dont know how remove it. Programs name

C:\program files\common files\lblhdndj\adnllcph\drlphctn.exe
Help me please.

Answer:back door program BDS Agent

My first attempt at removing this file would be to run whatever anti virus software you have. Many times this is all it takes. If that does not work try running it in safe mode. To do this retart you computer and keep tapping your F8 key repaetedly as soon as it starts to boot. Do not stop tapping until you get a menu. This menu will have a safe mode option.
Use your arrow keys to choose safe mode and hit enter. Once you log back in, run you antivirus software and delete andything it find or puts in quarantine. Restart you machine normally and log back in. At this point I would run another scan to make sure all was cleaned out.

Hey guys,

Sorry about the long post here, but I am going to make sure I give you all of the details that I know so we can better resolve this issue. I have been in the process of reinstalling Microsoft Operations Manager 2005. I had to reinstall it because there were severe database issues which were posing a problem from getting alerts. We weren't able to install the agent then either. During this time, I have been able to install the MOM Agent on all servers but 2, and both of them have ISA Server 2004 on them (don't ask why, they both have a different purpose!

The servers are named Gateway1, and Gateway2. I get the following error messages on them respectively when I try to install the agent:

But you'll need to wait a little while longer since MOM isn't exactly a "common" topic talked about here thus probably not many people have experience with it.

I have been tasked to upgrade around 500 Citrix clients version 9 running on windows XP to the new version on 11.2.

The Set up

All workstations are in a domain and the XP clients are set up so that the shell is set to be the Citrix client and not explore.exe. When the user logs into the workstation they log in and it goes straight into a published desktop so there is no access to the local computer.

I know of a simple ways that would solve my problem. One way would be to publish the new version of Citrix through active directory however the new version of the client comes as an exe file called CitrixOnlinePluginFull.exe which has 6 msi file contained inside.

I have looked on the internet I have a few ideaís one way is to try to use a script to deploy the application however I am no expert with script. The other way would be to somehow wrap the exe file into a msi and deploy it to the clients the only problem I think could cause a problem is that I have no way of getting to the clients as they are spread over the world so itís impossible to visit the work station.

So I need a way of pushing the new application to the workstations with the resources i have available.I need a way which keeps setting of the Citrix server and removes the old version of Citrix agent and installs the new version or if possible an upgrade with the CitrixOnlinePluginFull.exe file.

Any help or idea would be grate full

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. If it is not, then please let me know or move the thread to the right place.

With that aside, here is what I have as of now:
I have a newly installed server running MS Server 2008 R2 (64bit) with Active Directory and DNS (domain is myhome.local). On a different computer, I have three different VMs running Windows 7 Pro (64bit) and all three have been configured to join the domain myhome.local. I have created 3 users (user1, user2 and user3) that are members of domain users only. Which I believe means that those 3 users don't have any kind of administrative rights whether on the server or any workstation.

Here is the problem:
When I log into one of the VMs running Win 7 pro as one of the 3 users I created, say user 1, and I try to install a program like mozilla firefox I get prompt for credentials to install firefox. If I leave the screen as such without typing anything, the window asking for credentials disappears and I am able to continue installing firefox without any problems. Same thing happens if I log into any of the other 2 VMs I created as any of the other 2 users. What is going on here? Why is the window asking for administrative credentials in order to install the program disappears after 1-5 minutes?

Thank you for your responses in advanced.

I have mcafee agent installed on my laptop. Does this mean I have an antivirus program installed on my laptop. I ask because I used to have avira and then avg installed and they were programs that made it obvious that they were able to scan for viruses, that they could monitor my browser for websites that could download viruses etc. McAfee only has an icon near my battery indicator in the bottom right hand side of the screen which I can right click to update but it doesn't appear to be doing much else compared with all the notifications that avira and avg would give me. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:is mcafee agent installed on my laptop an antivirus program?

I'm guessing it's this item: I dislike "anything" being installed on "any" computer without the knowledge and consent of the user/owner etc... And even more when it presumes I am happy to have it "reporting back" at intervals - without my say so...As you do not appear to be using McAfee (you're using another anti-virus util) I'd remove the McAfee item. Details on how to to do that can be found here: if the above isn't any help... then perhaps rerun the google trawl I have just done- using the string (search words):< mcafee agent uninstall > (no < > )or < mcafee agent removal tool > *(again no < >)as there are assorted hits about it... The second trawl/string may be more direct I suspect.message edited by trvlr

Hello. I am a graduate student. The wireless network in my lab building is protected behind a Cisco NAC. It used to be that when I logged my personal laptop in, a Cisco Java utility would open up, scan my computer to make sure anti-virus was present, and then let me on to the network.

Thank you for your help

Answer:Windows cannot find C:\Program Files (x86)\Search Extensions\Client.ex

This is 'adware' that may have been bundled with something you downloaded... see the description here: Malware scan of Client.exe 6b75d6a615b532e67c2e62ccff0443455a6d7c40 - herdProtect
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop. Follow both steps 1 and 2

Step 1.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Step 2.
Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:
This time click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
Copy and paste the contents of that logfil... Read more

Hey there guys, I'm new here. Wish it had been under better circumstances but hey ho.

I have searched the forums high and low before asking this so please try not to berate me too much!

I naively installed MSE then promptly uninstalled it and got something that offers better protection.

After uninstalling I noticed that the the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client folder was still present and had all the files still in there, including msseces.exe. Though the program seems to be gone and isn't shown under Control Panel, I'd like to delete this folder. I assume this is just Microsoft's inefficiency but I see no reason why this folder should hang around.

When I try to delete it I get the old 'You require permissions from Administrators to make changes to this folder'. Yes, my account is an admin account and I've also tried deleting it by enabling the administrator account in the command prompt, logging in with that account and it still doesn't work. I've also followed the procedure outlined in this video: and nothing seems to work.

I'm at my wit's end and need the help of you good people. Alternatively, maybe there's a good reason why this folder is still present, in which case maybe someone can apprise me. Oh, I've also tried this method ( Uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Community )with the .bat file and it won't delete the files, says permission denied.

Thanks for any help guys!

Answer:Cannot Delete Microsoft Security Client folder in C:\Program Files

In the few cases in my installs with MSE which still get infected, I have them upgrade Malwarebytes free scanner to Trial version and then to paid Real Time Protection. None of these have ever gotten infected again and they enjoy perfect performance which is rarely the case with any bloated AV. Just something to keep in mind.

As to the remnants of MSE, it normally uninstalls completely so I'd be tempted to reinstall it for the purpose of seeing if it will uninstall correctly. If not then you may have system corruption.

If all else fails go ahead and Take Ownership of the files needing deletion using Take Ownership Shortcut

I'd also run CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download Disk and Registry cleaners to make sure anything else left that's safe to remove is deleted.

I scanned, vaulted, quarantined, removed, immunized for the past three days, but with no luck. Some of my programs are not working now, eg AVG Control Center. When I reinstall the removed files from their original sources, CDs, setup files, etc, they get infected all over again.

I stumbled upon this forum in a Google search, and I find your site very informative and helpful. I run everything in the Malware sticky to the T, and I attach the reports accordingly.

Thank you in advance!!

I am curious to see if I can kind of get to the bottom of this to figure out where the bottleneck or problem might be.

Some users complain that the background colors of some parts of program interfaces (like the background of the ribbon in Office 2013 programs) turn black, but buttons still function and you can read the text of buttons (but barely) and see icons.

Sometimes portions of the screen are black. Technical thoughts is that somehow that part of the screen cache failed to update/messed up thus being black, and easily goes away if you minimize and maximize applications a few times or move an application's window over the black area.

Sometimes users experience lag in their typing (as opposed to letters on the screen showing up "instantly").

In our buildings, all networking equipment got replaced with brand new Cisco equipment. In our oldest building, the only thing that hasn't been replaced is existing Ethernet runs; we did get two brand new fiber runs to go from our core Cisco router to an HP switch --> RaiseCom that takes in the fiber. Our other buildings are newer constructions so bad Ethernet runs are unlikely, plus that they were run and certified by professionals of a company that does this for a living. Our core infrastructure is located in a private "cloud" at a big and well known provider that I will not name. Our facilities have 100mbit connectivity to the internet.

Answer:VMware View/Zero Client question: parts of program GUI turn to black background, etc

What version of View?
Are all the users experiencing this on the LAN?
What make/model of Zero client? Latest teradici firmware?
Does this happen if you use the View client on a Windows PC?
How are the pools configured?

EDIT: Just noticed the last part where you stated that everything is across the internet at a cloud provider. I suspect network issues related to QoS and jitter. PCoIP is a UDP-based protocol so with that kind of infrastructure you are sure to see dropped/missing UDP packets (which do not get retransmitted). I'm very curious as to what version of View you're on though and what zero clients you're using.

I am looking for a free program that will keep track of programs that have been downloaded/uninstalled on my PC. The purpose of this is to make sure that the other family members that use the computer do not accidently download something harmfull, or uninstall something usefull. I would like something that will display the product name, description, and time of the event. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Answer:Looking for a program manager

I use A-Shampoo's unistaller suite. I dont think this program will do everything you want it to. (Incidently ive never heard of a program that can.) But its pretty good for monitoring installations. It records your system state at the time of install and then logs every change to your folders, registry etc. Then when you want to uninstall you know that every trace will be gone! (At least thats what it claims, and it does seem to do the biz.)

If you want to stop your family installing anything possibly harmful you could set them up with different user names that dont have administrator rights. That would stop them installing general programs. And then install some sort of live spyware/malware program that constantly checks for dangerous events happening on your pc.

Hope that helps a bit.

I have installed Nimo business card scanner program on a client computer in my domain network. It is installed successfully but when I am trying to launch the application, it is prompting me to provide the network administrator's password, which is not
possible to provide.
I have tried to run the application by check on the option (run as administrator for all users) in properties but the problem still there.
I have also give it several tries by changing the compatibility mode, but nothing works.
Also tried by giving full access to the user from the security in properties, but problem is still there.

Application is running fine after submitting the network administrator's password, but I want to run the application without prompting the administrator's password. So please help me out.

Answer:How to run business card scanner program with out prompting the administrator password on a domain client computer?

Some programs have .exe files that have to be run as or invoked as an administrator on a client computer within a domain.
If you have an .exe launch file that is causing this, but only have an account that is a regular user (non-administrator) and need to have the application run on a regular bases. I would have your I.T. department use the following Microsoft tool.

Bing / Google the Application Compatibility Toolkit
(Reference as ACT from here)
You will find this immediately. I would of linked it, but the forums isn't allowing me to link for some reason.
1) To use this application so that a program doesn't require elevated privileges, you must first have the desired account setup with administrator.
2) Install the application
3) Go to the Start Menu >> All Programs >> Run the 32-Bit or 64-Bit version of the program depending on your OS.
4) Once open, Click Fix with in the ACT
5) Now, go to the icon of the .exe file that you usually use to launch the application. Right click, go to properties, and use the target for the icon as the properties within ACT
6) When you get to the window of Compatibility Modes within ACT, select "RunAsInvoker"
7) From here select "Next" and end with "Finish"
8) Once done with the Wizard, Save the database to C:\Windows\System32\
9) Now within ACT go to File then Install
10) If you receive a successful message, the task has been done correctly and ACT may be uninstalled.

I have been thinking about security more recently and have decided that for all my banking websites, shopping, and even e-mail addresses, I should use secure passwords with a combination of letters, numbers, symbols, uppercase, lowercase, etc, whereas currently for a number of my e-mails I use fairly simple passwords. The reason for this is that if anyone gains access to an account which I previously considered not very significant, there is probably some identifiable information about me, or they can figure out other accounts that I have and try to hack into those and eventually gain enough information that could cause damage.

The other thing I have done is use variations of the same password (eg, However, I don't like the idea of using something similar for several different sites, wouldn't it make more sense to use completely unrelated passcodes for each website?

So taking all this into account, is there a password manager or software that I can use to keep different passwords on every site and use the manager to enter in my usernames and passwords on each site so I save time in typing, and the main question, is it safe and secure to use a program like this on my local computer? I might also not even plan on memorizing any passwords and just let the manager store everything?

Answer:Password program/manager

I don't personally like to have passwords stored anywhere but in my head, but both LastPass and KeyPass come highly recommended. I like the idea from the site you posted, but I use the method Mozilla foundation came up with. I just wrote a more detailed post about this on my blog a few days ago:

I have Vista Ultimate 64 (upgrade) and the system began performing slowly about a week ago. Seemed like it was having problems accessing the drives (RAID 1). I performed a Restore which seemed to help, but after awhile it slowed down again. After some checking around I found there were no devices listed in the Program Manager. I looked on the web and found something for XP where you check your Plug and Play in Services - mine has all the buttons greyed out (can't even pause it), so this solution did not help. I haven't come across anything else that's been helpful.

The odd thing is that you can boot up, log in (that takes awhile), and browse the web without any difficulties. It's just when you want to look inside a folder that it freezes, and after while, shows you the contents.

At this point, I'm going to do a repair from the installation disk if there's no other solution available.

Thanks in advance

Hi guys.

first of all i wanted to explain this question. some of the people on here know what the Steam Game overlay is correct? The Game overlay kind ghosts, or slides over the game that is open. I kind of like this idea, but i want to implement it differently.

Is there a program out there that would let me do that but control windows and programs. For example, I use Skype often because a good portion of my friends use it. I hate having the window open and needing to resize it or move it around. I like to have Facebook open, but i hate moving the broswer around and resizing it and minimizing it.

^the above sounds lame and lazy but it is what it is.

Is there a way that i can setup a way to have my social media and chats and everything on 1 pane or window and be able to hide it 100% when i'm working on something else, or just to keep it out of the way?

Thanks guys
My thoughts are out there for those who got crapped on by sandy wind.

I just had to create a whole new user profile so I could install a program so I could use it. In my regular profile I could not find a way to get this program to run. It would be running in the task manager but not open on my desk top. Weird. A remote support person from the software company could not figure out why. EDIT: the odd filename is I edited the whole post to reflect this, but I can't edit thread header. I have also now included a screen shot of the task manager process window.

Tonight I noticed a process that I have never seen before, 014108~8.exe, but it doesn't stay running for very long. It eventually stopped itself I guess and didn't show up again in Task Manager.

I have had issues with Vundo in the past, maybe I didn't resolve it. I have also just installed IE8, and now when I launch IE8 I notice that it takes a long long time to come up compared to the past. That is when I found the file mentioned above.

I have installed and run Malewarebytes, I have installed and run the DDS program and posted down below in the HJT thread the DDS result and attached the attach file. BTW, Malewarebytes hasn't found anything since the initial install about 3 weeks ago or so. I have been updating it.

If there a free program startup manager type program out there that anyone is using?

Thanks again as always,

Answer:Free Startup Manager Program?

There is already a program that allows YOU to manage your startup programs.

However i also have CCleaner installed on my computer it allows me to view my startup programs and lets me decide to enable or disable or even delete them.

I still recommend you stick with msconfig tool built into windows. Please remember to do a google search before disabling something you don't know. If you start disabling to much in order to gain faster speed times you may end up with doing the opposite if you disable a critical or important startup program.

When I tried logging in to Yahoo Messenger tonight, Zone Alarm popped up with this message:

Application: alg.exe

I denied it, because I don't normally get this message when I connect Y! Messenger, however, it now will not connect. Tried Googling, but found mixed views - some saying it's Microsoft, others hinting at worms so wondered if anyone could advise me please? Thanks

LoL ... do you have Windows firewall enabled?

This program provides optional utilities like the Windows Firewall and ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). If you're not using either one of them then you should not be seeing this program run.

The alg.exe which is from Microsoft is located at c:\windows\System32\alg.exe . There are NO threats that run as alg to trick you. There are however a LOT of viruses that try their best to take this application out to open you up for other attacks.

Answer:program on the server

Well, speaking for myself, I usually just do a copy paste from the CD to the network drive. For example, my work used to used to use Norton Antivirus. Our IT dep. made a directory on the network drive called NAV and then just copied all files from the cd into that directory. This should work for most installation programs.

Question: Server Program

I am looking for free hosting everywhere, I find one with lots of space with banners that take up the whole page, I find one with 6 megbytes but wow unlimited bandwith....... I am getting sick and tired of this so I am now looking to use my computer as a server for a website. Can someone tell me the best server program to download? if there is one i'm not even sure. Please help me out....And hey if you can host me then host me.

Answer:Server Program provide a good free service, well it workd for me anyway.

They give 25MB of space, 1GB of monthly bandwidth, only one small banner on the top of your page. Only downfall is that it only allows people to download files of smaller than 256kb or maybe its 512kb.

Question: Ad Server program

I have a program installed on my computer that activates a window called "Ad Server" that I'm sure is spyware/adware related. It pops up at random times for less then 1sec then disappears. I have SpyBot and Ad-Aware installed, they havent stopped the problem as of yet. Anything else I can do to get rid of it.

Answer:Ad Server program

Okay they are installed, but are they up to date with current reference lists and have you run them and cleaned what they found? You should also make use of the immunize feature in SpyBot.

If they are up to date and you have run them and cleaned then post a HijaakThis log.

What OS are you running?

I recently randomly selected some executables and uploaded them to Virus Total, which resulted in me discovering the PUP and Trojan I mentioned in the thread title. I regularly run Malwarebytes and update it daily, and always upload any executables/zip files I download from third party servers (especially freeware) to Virus Total for a scan, as well as being careful as to what freeware I download. As far as I know I use a secure network at home, do not have autorun enabled (nor do use flash drives on this computer in the first place). I also do not browse any dodgy sites and occasionally run a script disabler on any websites that have lots of ads on them. In spite of all of this, I haven't really noticed any issues I've seen with viruses in the past, and Malwarebytes doesn't pick anything up (not that that means anything anymore). Thanks in advance.

Edit: Something I forgot to mention, I don't get audio on flash videos such as from youtube.

If a program crashes and is holding up everything else running in Windows, the Task Manager can help by forcing the program to stop.
The normal advice of how to start Task Manager is to press the Control, Alt and Delete keys and then select Task Manager.
This can be a problem if Windows has become unstable, and so there is a direct keyboard shortcut.
Hold down the Control, Shift and Escape keys and the Task Manager will appear.

Answer:Bringing up the Task Manager to Stop a Program.

A useful tip.
There's a little more that you can do with it. You can use task manager as a desktop widget too.
You can also try out this nifty app called One Click App killer. You can terminate your frozen programs with one click. For example you double-click on it's icon, which is sits in the quick launch bar, your cursor gets transformed into a target. Then the next program you click on, is terminated instantly.

The game prototype freezes on me (windows 8) when I try to alt tab out and back. Everything else is still working. I bring up task manager but task manager is hidden behind a frozen screen of prototype. I can even bring up the metro panel fine I just can't use any program to force prototype to close.

I have a second monitor and everything in terms of programs is running fine on that but when I bring up task manager it goes to my main display that has the frozen prototype that won't allow it to the foreground to be used.

Is there a way I can move the task manager to my second monitor without a mouse? That way I'd be able to use it to force prototype to close.

So, today, I was going through some startup programs to see if I could disable some to improve performance when I scrolled down to see a program named "Program" with no author/publisher and the startup impact as "Not measured". I have no clue as to what this could be. Any future help is appreciated!

Answer:Unknown program shown in Task Manager

Not Measured means that the application was not run at startup. Usually, such a value appears for apps which were uninstalled but may still be registered to run at startup.

I'm searching for a way to automate security settings within IE. I want to be able to create instances of IE sessions with specific settings enabled and disabled (specifically SSL, TLS settings). Is there some type of macro or script or program that would allow me to manage and target these settings?

To be a little more specific, there are certain sites that require different protocols to be enabled/disabled. If there is a way to create a "shortcut" to those requested sites and have that "shortcut" apply the settings for the specific site to run properly.

I'm using IE 10

Answer:Task Manager Tab Missing & Regedit Used By Another Program

Hello viclim and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. If the laptop is on a domain you should contact the domain administrator regarding the Task Manager issues there. The administrator might have disabled that for the network users. For the desktop, please post a HijackThis log and the specific issues that relate to just the desktop. I will review the information for that one when it comes in.Also, make sure that HijackThis is not being run from the temp folders or from within the archive file by following these directions:ImportantYour copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted. If it is run from inside a compressed file then the backups are not created at all. Please open My ComputerDouble-click on Local Disk (C:)Click on the File menu, point to New and then click on Folder. Name the folder 'HijackThis' or 'HJT'.Unzip to or copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder (do not run HijackThis directly out of the sfx or compressed file).Cheers.OT

Hi, I was looking at the Startup section on Task Manager, and something caught my eye. There's a program literally just called "Program", the icon is only the generic blank white page one, and there's no name on the publisher. It has a startup Impact of "Not Measured" and I cannot open the file location or select the properties option. I have the option of disabling it but I have not just in case it's something important. Some help on what it is and how I can see its properties? Could it be just leftover from programs I uninstalled?

Answer:Weird "Program" on Task Manager Startup

Not sure what that program would be, but you shouldn't see irreversible changes made by removing a program from startup. I'd go for removing it from your startup items. If you're really worried, try running rkill and seeing what happens when you open up programs, because in the event that that program not running has disastrous consequences on your computer, that should be able to end the process without removing it from your startup items and a reboot should set your computer back to normal.

need to install and run this on windows 10 32 or 64 bit OS keeps saying need to restart pc to complete install

using windows 7 compatibility mode

Answer:unable to install / run comodo program manager

I looked at their site and no mention of Win10, only Win8 and earlier. Running in Win7 compatibility mode doesn't work with all things and this type program probably is one of those. And most likely it's because of many differences between Win7 and Win10. If'n it were me I'd use CCleaner Piriform - Download CCleaner - Millions of users worldwide! [formerly called Crap Cleaner] as it has an uninstall feature.

I have been trying to open Picasa for a couple of hours now - it no longer responds when double-clicked in 'my programs', or if I right click and choose 'open'
No other programs are affected and everything else works as it should.

By Googling I've discovered that the program is corrupted somehow and needs to be reinstalled. I've tried to uninstall it by using the product's own uninstaller and through 'Revo' but I receive messages telling me that the program is running and needs to be closed first. I then went to the good old task manager to force Picasa to close and it won't close through there either!

Are there any other methods I can try to close a program (Picasa3.exe *32)

I need to sort this pretty quickly please.
Many thanks on advance

I have been using Outlook for years for management of my customers and contacts - phone, address, names, and some extensive notes about each. Since I've been working with the helpful people at Tech Support Guy I've realized there are other programs out there (Mozilla, AVG, Thunderbird, etc.) that do a better job than some of the old standard Microsoft and Norton ones. I'd like suggestions for a simple contact manager program to replace my aging Outlook. It would be a big advantage to be able to import my Outlook .pst files into the new database. I know about ACT, but it's probably more sophisticated than I need. Not interested in phone dialers (but that's probably standard on most), etc.

Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated.

Answer:Suggest a good contact manager program?

ACT is a really robust one that has report writing, mail merge, fax blasts and quite a few other options. that is really the only other contact manager I have used out of the box and I have written one in Access that does a really good job as well.

I am currently keeping Customer names and addresses in Palm Desktop. I'm keeping service call notes in Wordpad and sync them with Documents to Go on the Palm TX. I also do billing with Quickbooks.

I'm getting tired of having this information scattered to three programs. I am satisfied my billing will stay with Quickbooks; but, I am looking for a program that will integrate the customer notes with the names and addresses.

I would use Palm Desktop for customer notes; but, the notes field has a limit on what it will hold and notes for customers I've had for years easily exceed that limit. So, I guess what I'm looking for is a Palm Desktop with an integrated word processor or notes field that has no limit on the amount of notes AND that can be synchronized with my Palm TX.
