Set display to 1028 x 768 type too small

Question: Set display to 1028 x 768 type too small

I have changed my display to 1028 x 768, but I cannot change everything to a larger type size. Some will change in 'Properties > Appearance' and 'View > Text Size', but some will not change within applications and web pages. I have also tried 'Programs > Accessories > Accessability > Magnifier', but it is too ackward. Is there another way that I am missing? Thanks, Bob

Preferred Solution: Set display to 1028 x 768 type too small

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Too-Small Type

I sometimes have a problem with e-mails that come with pictures attached. When I try to print the message, the type is so small I can barely read it. How can I fix this, or is this a problem with the sender? (I am using IE7 with all the latest updates, etc.) I have a feeling there is a setting someplace that will cure the problem but can't for the life of me figure out where it is.

See the attachment to see what I mean. I have tried to 150% with little advantage, plus the icons then can't be organized as I desire on the desktop. This smallness of print occurs throughout the displays, beginning with the splash page and the request for the password. You can barely read it!

I had a guy try to help me yesterday with a problem I was having with IE7. He checked this and that setting and actually didn't do any good. When I tried to print a page from my hotmail account this morning it would print in about 5 point type, when it was supposed to be 14 point. How can I get this setting back to normal? Thanks for any and all help.

Recently some of my email in windows live mail and firefox browser display very small font type. Even in some of my programs the font is so small I can hardly read them. The only thing I noticed was a message that shockwave is busy .The choice was to wait or stop plug in. There was another message it was a path but I lost it so I am not sure what it was, but one of the paths did say /config/. I have tried all the obvious settings in display internet options.

Answer:Small font size type

Open the browser and hold down the ctrl key and press + key. For each press, the font increases.
To decrease, hold down the ctrl key and press the - key.

Another method, hold down the ctrl key and move the mouse wheel away from you to increase and towards you to decrease.

3rd option: I have an addon called nosquint installed. I can set a different magnification for every site I visit.
For example, this site is set at 120% for me, while another site is set at 90%. I don't have to keep increasing or decreasing because the addon remembers my settings for each site for 6 months. (This can be changed from 1 month to 1 year).

Windows 7 home prem.

In my D drive (my Data) I have a folder e1bd7884278f66e8d5fd and it has 25 folders named, e.g. "1037" and "1044" etc. as well as folders "Client" and "Graphics." All the numeric-named folders contain a foreign language "rtf" file and an xml and a dll file.

Do I need all this? It takes a lot of my valuable hd space.

thank you.

Answer:what are these files/folders? (1025, 1028 etc)

It looks like a temp folder from a software installation. Try moving it to a different location and check to see if everything still runs right. If so, delete it. If not, if something isn't working right, move it back and leave it.

Just my thoughts.... I could be wrong.

I'd like to have the best tools for my job as computer repair tech. I know there're several types of screwdriver tips used, chrome-vanadium, steel, etc.
In my humble opinion: the black tipped chrome-vanadium are somewhat soft, get easily stripped but don't strip screws as easily.
Silver steel tipped tips are harder and when they get worn out, they can strip screws easily.
What are the best screwdrivers in your experience, I'D RATHER YOU ANSWERED WITH TYPES RATHER THAN SPECIFIC BRANDS, WHICH ARE MANY TIMES UNNECESSARILY EXPENSIVE.
I use Phillips 000,00,0,1. Pentalobe 1.2 and Torx 4 to 10 screwdrivers most often.

My idea is that, whatever type you use, you must change them every few months because they'll wear out and strip screws. Am I right?

Many thanks for reading my post

Sounds to me that what you're looking for is a NAS solution. If you want, go with the do-it-yourself method: get hold of an old machine, install large hard drives, throw WHS/Linux/FreeBSD/whatever, and start serving.

I wanted to start up my own business. I am not looking for anything big, I just want to make a bit of extra spending money on the side. I figured if I set up my own business, then I could be flexible with the hours I work to fit around my full time job and school, etc.

Mainly I figured getting a business license and name. Then getting some business cards made and having people pass them around. I figured that would be the best way to start off.

I was looking at doing the small in home installations; like software firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware, etc.

Maybe do some home network installations.

Any suggestions that would make something like this a bit easier? Maybe companies that create above software that give business discounts on bulk items; like Symantec, McAfee, etc?

Answer:Starting a small business -- side job type stuff

I don't really have any wholesale/distributor/retailer suggestions for you, but what I can tell you is that side projects like this have a way of snowballing into very time consuming endeavors, especially with the burden of all of the BS that goes into having your own business.

My only advice is this: know exactly what you're getting yourself in to.

Out of the clear blue, the type size on my printed emails has gotten really small. I use Outlook Express and I looked for an option setting that somehow got screwed up. But, I can't find anything that controls the font size for printing emails.

The font size on web pages has decreased, too. I was able to improve that problem a bit by going (in Internet Explorer) and doing Tools/Internet Options/General Tab/Accessibility and turning on the check mark for "Ignore font sizes specified on web pages." I must admit that seemed weird because I've never had to change that setting before and everything has always been okay. I also looked in IE for something that might be affecting the type size on email print outs and I couldn't find anything there, either.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve one or both of those problems?

Thanks, BaileyCat

Hello, recently I've encountered a problem with my display settings. I have been through the display settings and it is currently set at 1600x900 which is what I have always had it set to even before I had this problem. My guess is that it's a virus although I haven't picked anything up in my various virus scans. If anyone has any advise on how I can fix this please let me know because I only need this computer to last me a few more weeks. I will attach a photo of how my desktop looks to give you a rough idea.

My sister in Florida uses XP and IE6. When I used her note-book recently, I noticed that the display in the main pane, in other words the images and text in the main pane, filled only about 2/3rds of the pane. The display in the left-hand pane, on the other hand, was perfectly normal. There was no question of curing this by dragging, because that merely changes the size of the pane, not the display in it. Nor does it help to change the font-sizes, because the whole display -- fonts, images and all -- is under-sized.Can anyone help ?

I just got a new rig with Windows 7 Home Premium.I installed the latest version of FF
and all the web pages are very small w/borders on either side of at least 2 inches. My resolution is set at 1280x800 (as always).I tried the normal adjustments w/W7, but it only effects the display of icons, text, etc.,not the pages.Explorer displays the pages normally, but I don't like IE. I like my Fox.I'm thinking it's the new FF version conflicting w/W7.

Is there a simple solution to this or am I going to have to go back to the older FF version ( I don't want to lose all my FF settings and bookmarks....Again ) ? I'm 10 minutes away from going back to the previous version.

If there's a tweak or setting adjustment to rectify this, I would be grateful for the info.

Hello,
I just upgraded to windows 10 and it changed my display settings.
I am currently using resolution of 1920X1080, and when I switched over, it made a lot of my stuff blurry. For example, my skype screen, steam screen, as well as a bunch of other screens became really blurry, but the ideal size.
I then lowered the size of my text and applications because that made everything less blurry, but it also made everything super small to the point where I can barely see my icons in my taskbar, and the toolbar in chrome is almost unreadable.

How do I make it so that it's the original size it was, but at the same time not be so blurry? I was able to do it in windows 8, but it doesn't seem to work in windows 10 now.

Thanks!

I had this problem with my old IBM Thinkpad A21m. I fixed it by going to IBM's website and downloading the utilities that came with the laptop. The reason they weren't on mine was because I had formatted the computer. You said that you were playing a game and came back to it, so the drivers should all be there. Not sure if this should go here.I recently had my hardrive wiped for a unrelated reason and am happy with my decision. Although there is one problem.I keep fooling around with my screen settings, yet no matter what the dimensions are set to, everything is bigger than it is supposed to be, so if I move it one notch up, it's way to stretched. It looks best at 1152x864.Yet I can tell it's way to big. Is there any way to manually do it, because every other default size is either too big or too stretched.I'm pretty sure I've always had it at 1152x864 or the next one up, yet 1152x864 is too big and the next one up is too stretched.Thanks.

i have a dell latitude c840 laptop with windows xp pro.
the display is somehow coming up to small after windows starts.
while its booting up it is fine, after i login it is fine, when it fist puts up the background it is also fine, thenwhen it is finished loading it shrinks and i get about 3 inches of space on all sides.
I can fix this temorairly by going ot the display properties, changing the color depth or resolution, hitting ok so it resets the diplay and then say no to keep settings. at this point and the rest of the time it is booted it is fine, but the next time i reboot the same thing happens. i have tried updating video drivers i have the gefore4 440 and got the latest drivers, no differance, i tried to do a system restore to a week before that i had this problem and that didnt fix it. any idea would be apreciated, it still works its just a pain tha ti have to go in and change settings everytime i reboot the laptop

I'm new to laptops, just bought one. I read somewhere that you can run it without the battery installed-just using the power cord. Now my display doesn't fill the screen (not a resolution problem). How do I resize the display?
Thanks

Answer:Display Size Too Small

Move your cursor to the edge of the screen, hold down on left clicker and move border to fit the screen. Do all four sides of the open window display.

The computer in question is a Dell Laptop Latitude C810. Video is Nvidia GeForce2 Go. Getting it to boot was an accomplishment unto itself.

The display fills the screen, but the typeface and icons are so small as to be illegible. Changing to a smaller resolution only keeps everything the same size and shrinks the screen size. For instance, changing it to 1400 x 1050 leaves an inch of black around the desktop. Changing the resolution to 1280 x 1084 leaves a larger space around the desktop.

I have changed the refresh rate. I have changed to "large icons". I have adjusted DPI settings. I have used all options in Settings - Advance in the properties dialogue box.

Using any browser, the "page" is small. Scrolling with CTL+mouse wheel enlarges parts of it, but not everything. The browser itself is full-screen, but whatever site I'm visiting, the page appears in the center with much white area all around.

Any suggestions? The laptop is a great one, even if old.

Cass

Answer:Display on Laptop too Small

I would uninstall the current video drivers, reboot...and then reinstall the drivers.

If the problems continue...I'd guess that my video chip or motherboard is on the way out.

Under all the old Windows programs you used to be able to go to display settings
and be able to tell which type of monitor and display was which

example a Samsung monitor or a Sony TV monitor

it used to tell you in the detect portion, you could tell exactly which was which. So how do I tell that now. I work with remote setups and dual monitors but I can't tell which is which.

Is there a way to tell with this new superior Windows 10 that they have put out?

My sister in Florida uses XP and IE6. When I used her note-book recently, I noticed that the display in the main pane, in other words the images and text in the main pane, filled only about 2/3rds of the pane. The display in the left-hand pane, on the other hand, was perfectly normal. There was no question of curing this by dragging, because that merely changes the size of the pane, not the display in it. Nor does it help to change the font-sizes, because the whole display -- fonts, images and all -- is under-sized.

Can anyone help ?

Hi guys,
I've got a really annoying problem here. I know that there are three presets of the display size, small, medium large. I always use medium and it has work fine ever since.
But suddenly, the icons on the my desktop became tiny, i can't really tell if the title of the icons became smaller but the icons are definitely smaller. Everything else is the same size, and i checked my settings and they were still set at medium.
Anyhelp please?

Answer:Display Size, icon became small, everything else same

FIrst, right click on the Desktop and select Screen Resolution. Make sure that is correct for your display.

If okay, then click on an empty area of the Desktop, then hold down the Ctrl key and roll the mouse wheel. One direction makes things smaller, the other makes them bigger.

That will allow you to make them any size you want.

HI,

in trying to install Red Alert 2 on my laptop I get the following message:

The system is not using Small Fonts. In order to view this installation you need to change your system to display Small Fonts.

When I go into display properties though, I can only select normal, large or extra large.

Where are the small?

Thanks,

However WINDOWS GAMES (solitire, free cell etc.) still appear very small. Any idea how to sort this out?SincerelyRoni

Answer:WINDOWS GAMES display very small

Hi RoniA, Welcome to the Lenovo forum  Try this:Turn on your ThinkPad and at the boot screen press F1 to get to the BIOS Setup page. Go to the Config menu, then Display section, and find the "HV expansion" option. Probably it is set to "Off"; turn it "On". Your BIOS options may appear slightly different than above (which is for X60), but should be similar. Good luck!-Frank

I recently reformatted the hard drive on my Inspiron 8200 and did a clean install of Windows XP Pro. Before installing the video drivers, scrolling up and down web pages was very choppy. After installing the NVIDIA GeoForce2 2GO driver, my web page scrolling has smoothed, but now my screen displays very small icons and font. The entire screen is in use, but everything on the screen is very small. I attempted to adjust the resolution from the current 1600 by 1200, but the display is fuzzy and I get a message prompting me to use the 1600 by 1200 resolution for the sharpest display. I have spoken with Dell support. They asked me to do the reformat, which obviously did not help. I am at a dead end now. I would really appreciate any assistance or suggestions. I am no expert, but I have tried everything that I know to try. Please help if possible! THANK YOU!

Hi ya'll

I apologize in advance bc I'm sure this question is so simple, but I've looked EVERYWHERE about this problem so I'm begging for help! I'm a photographer and work extensively with Photoshop and other Adobe products. I upgraded to this new laptop MSi GE70 Apache Pro-012 laptop from a Toshiba Satellite P775 because of the superior graphics cards and RAM. But when I change the resolution to medium, I have problems with photoshop. I read on a PS forum that photoshop operated correctly when the display was at it's recommended resolution. However, this is WAY too small.

Even my browser (firefox) is screwed up - some words are big and some are very small! I've never seen this before. PLEASE HELP! I know it's got to be a simple answer but I can't figure it out! Any advice would be great!

Answer:Laptop display is very small and rez increase does nothing

Hi Trish,
If the screen resolution is not set to recommended, most things will look weird. You can try right clicking your desktop, go to Screen Resolution, then click on Advanced settings, and if you have a tab called something like Graphics Control Panel, click on that and then click on Graphics Properties and then click on Display. This will give you all options to set your screen size.

Hope that helps.

Answer:X240 display type

I know about Product Specifications Reference (PSREF), but there is no such type-model number on x240 section. I've checked the serial number in warranty lookup and it showed same type-model number for me. So I guess it must be valid one.

Hi there,

I have a 3 year old XP computer with an Nvidia 7900GS graphics card and I think that the graphics card is starting to go a little bit faulty and I am seeking some advice.

Here are a couple of problems I am having:

1. While performing normal day to day activities on the computer (like on the internet) I sometimes notice a faint straight pink dashed line that appears over white backgrounds. I noticed it again the other day while installing a program and while moving the program window around the screen, the pink line was moving with it, so I could practically draw pink lines all over it.

2. Sometimes while playing full screen games (especially Tomb Raider 7+8), I get random distortions of flashing lines and patches on the screen. In cinematics, there are quite a few flashing white or red dots that appear on the screen, and after exiting the games, the desktop is also polluted with quite a few green/blue/red dots. The dots do not cover the screen (they are just patched around in various places.) If I open a window on top of them, they disappear.

- I am alreading seeking advice from a Tomb Raider forum about the games and they said that it was possible that my video card was overheating or I had overclocked it.

Could anybody help on this matter -- it is greatly apprecited!

Answer:Small black circle top right corner of display

hi kreeze,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I suggest you post a screenshot or a photo taken of the problem,

As an alternative when the problem shows try to do a print screen and save it. then open the photo on other device or view the photo on a part of the screen where you can see if the black circle is showing on the LCD only or in the page that you're viewing,

You can also boot the computer in BIOS and check if the problem will show there,
Keep on Pressing F2 when you turn on the computerand youll get to the BIOS screen and check if the problem may show there.

Let me know your findings

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

I believe that about a week ago, an automatic Vista update was installed on my HP computer, which came with Vista pre-installed. As soon as the computer restarted, my display became very small, almost unreadable, and the text is not as dark as it used to be. I tried adjusting the text size, etc. through the Personalization tools, but that hasn't helped. There are several problems on web sites - the text and pictures are too small, and graphics that previously filled the screen are about half the size (or less) than they were. "Mechanically" everything seems to work okay -- I just can't see it as easily.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me to restore this stuff to its former state. I'm pretty much a techno-baby, so I'd appreciate this in the simplest terms.

Thanks for any assistance.

I have an HP Pavillon a404x with an Intel 82845 graphics controller using WinXP Home SP3. I just installed an Acer H233H 23" monitor and have two problems.

1. When I run in native mode with resolution of 1920 X 1080 at 75Hz refresh rate my characters are all formed well and looks nice but some displays are too small. For example: I use Google Chrome and the characters in the windows from the Internet are too small for me to read. Also, some games like Spider display cards that are too small to work with. I have adjusted the size of windows icons and displays, its programs I am having trouble with.

2. When I reboot the computer the display reverts to a lower resolution than 1920 X 1080 and the refresh rate goes to 60Hz. That switch back messes up my desktop icon layout. How can I make the larger resolution permanent?

Not really a problem, but how can I make all windows display at a normal width without addressing each window separately?

Hello,

I went on vacation a couple weeks ago and came back to find these fuzzy lines being displayed on my computer. The computer was off the entire week. I've had my computer since last December so it shouldn't be an issue with compatibility. I reinstalled my graphics drivers and I also hooked the monitor up to my laptop using a VGA cable(my computer uses a DVI-D cable) and was having the same lines appear. So I have narrowed it down to a problem with the monitor itself. I have an ASUS VH242H monitor.

System Info:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor
Monitor Model: ASUS VH242H

Pics:
http://i50.tinypic.com/25ggsa9.jpg there are lines from taking the picture of the monitor but these lines are best shown on the task bar with library, new, store, donate. They are very small and only go a couple pixels

Answer:very small and fuzzy lines on monitor display

Since you've already established it's the monitor and nothing else, there's not a lot more we can say other than you may have a good reason to claim a repair or replacement under warranty as it's less than 12-months old. We certainly don't advise you start messing with it's internals (even if you/we knew what we were doing) while a warranty claim is possible.

Contact ASUS and ask for an RMA under warranty (Returned Merchandise Authorisation) and what the procedure is for returning it. Worldwide telephone contact numbers for ASUS are here: http://support.asus.com/Hotlines.aspx?SLanguage=en

Hi. I got back a monitor I had borrowed someone and after wiping it noticed that there is a small permanent "light area" at the bottom area of the screen. It looks as if someone may have poked the display with a finger, leaving the slight distortion we all know you get from fingering an LCD, but in this case permanent. Is there a way to fix it for a home user, and if not, is it worth the time and money taking it to a repair shop? It's not very bad most of the time, but noticeable when that area of the screen is supposed to display black. It looks as if there was a smudgy fingerprint on the screen, with a blue tint, so it must be the that the light is leaking through a little unevenly in that spot. I don't know enough about LCDs to say what causes this effect, but I assume it's not hard to fix for someone who knows what they're doing. So any ideas?

Answer:LCD display repair, small light leak

So I guess you all just buy new monitors when that happens?

I'm seeing something strange with the display.  When I move it, the screen goes to a negative of what should be there.  Has anyone seen this?  I ran the display tests, which pass, of course.  It seems to be a hardware issue.  This machine is brand new.

Answer:T61 Type 6459 display issue

Looks like you are having same problem as my laptop.I have a t61 type 7658.Screen goes blank/black sometimes, but comes back if you shake it lil bit.Display goes to 'Negative' sometimes and comes back to original after a while. Reading on other threads and forums, I think it has to do something with display connections/wire/loose hinges etc.Although even I am not sure. If you can resolve it, please let me know.thanks Akash
