Solved: Mozilla Firefox...Erased Profile but not files...trying to import to new profile

Question: Solved: Mozilla Firefox...Erased Profile but not files...trying to import to new profile

Hello All,
Here's my problem. I've erased my profile from Mozilla Firefox. I HAVE NOT however erased the profile files.

I have since created a profile with a different name. I would like to import the old profile info (bookmarks inparticular) to my new "default" profile.

As well, what if I wanted to import info from another Mozilla Firefox profile?

Can this be done?

I've tried everything but I can't seem to figure it out.

If you do post please be advised that I am not all that familiar with Firefox.

Thank you all for your time.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Solved: Mozilla Firefox...Erased Profile but not files...trying to import to new profile

I move mine manually all the time. If you just want to add the bookmarks.html, just move the one you saved to the new profile. Here is the official instructions from Firefox on backup and restore of the Profile.

I upgraded to Firefox 9 in which i was able to activate Google Toolbar using "Addons compatibility reporter".
I created a new profile for Firefox 9 and when i open it Google Toolbar is not there together with bookmarks. "Addons compatibility reporter" did not activate Google Toolbar in the new profile browser.
Do you have any suggestions?

A month or so ago when I tried to load Mozilla Firefox I got the message 'your firefox profile cannot be loaded, it maybe missing or inaccessible.

I have looked online for a solution, it seems to be a common problem, but I need a solution in easy language. My computer knowledge is OK but most of the solutions baffled me a little.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that doesn't work.

I'm running Windows Vista.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Ok so my buddy's ancient xp laptop has failing video. I logged onto it as an administrator and shared all the users documents. I proceeded to another pc in the house running Vista and created an administrator account with the same credentials as the laptop's then copied (mostly I used copy but for a few folders I used the move command) over the network the primary users profile folder. It took two attempts. It failed to connect the first time but succeeded after I returned to the laptop and disabled simple file sharing and gave the laptops administrator's user account I shared the folders from security permissions to all user folders in question.

I had my friend's girlfriend verify all her pictures were in place on the Vista PC and they were. I felt like "see I do know my stuff". They aren't computer people and have alot of old failing machines I keep going for them. I do this for a living and must have donated a not insignificant amount of time keeping their aging stuff going and I've had a string of having to tell them I simply couldn't make things like HD transcoding and playback run "any more better" or that I couldn't software fix failing hardware on their aging collection of machines. So I was happy for the successful move.

My bud's girl ended up staying on the PC's Admin's profile FaceBooking and reminiscing about the irreplaceable pictures that absolutely needed to be saved from the laptop. The ones of a recently lost loved one the lo... Read more

Try to recover your files using the free Recuva.

Hey guys,

Yesterday, I shut down my computer. A few hours later when trying to log back in, I get logged onto a blank profile, which I assume is a temporary profile.

Curiously the ProfileImagePath string under key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21-842173820-3506557639-1618326103-1004 is pointing to C:\Users\Mike_2.Mike-PC instead of C:\Users\Mike_2, which I assume is a temporary/alternate profile. (which I didn't create)

This has happened before, but usually a few restarts fixed the problem, however, that doesn't seem to be working now.

My question is, is there a way to reassociate the profile with the correct user folder? Or do I have to transfer everything over to a clean profile?

Answer:Solved: User profile dissasociated from account/logging onto temporary profile?

Its not an association issue, the user profile is corrupt, and is replaced by a temporary one.

Best thing to do is create a new user account, and migrate to that.

I need to transfer my Firefox bookmarks from a WinME to a WinXP OS. I'm not sure at all how this will work.

As far as I know, the bookmarks are all in one file. Is this right? Something like bookmarks.bak.. actually, there are two that I can see so far. One one of them is .bak.
Ok, so if I copy everything from the folder:
C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\Jim Carrey\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\adz9m5j7.default

and I copy it onto a CD-R, will I be able to copy those files directly into
C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\Jim Carrey\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\adz9m5j7.default

on the other PC? Assuming it's the same directory path of course..

Another thing I'm not sure about is the change of Operating Systems. Will this affect anything at all? I only have one chance at this (I'm moving).
I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.9 now, on this WinME pc. On the XP, it will have Firefox 2 (or whatever is newest) installed. Will this make any other difficulties?

The plan is to copy all the files from that folder onto cd-r, install Firefox on the new XP pc, put the cd-r into the XP and copy all those Firefox profile files into the right folder on that pc. Just wondering if you guys can help me out.
Thanks for the help.

Edit: I just read I can export the bookmarks to a file, so it's easier. But I'm still not sure about the whole switching OS's and all that. But, is that bookmarks file the only file I will need? Will there be any other files that support that file being there or ... Read more

Answer:Transferring Firefox profile/files onto other PC

Oh, and just out of curiosity, is there any way you can export each bookmark inside the 'bookmarks' file so they are each individual bookmark by itself (like Internet Explorer does)? Or, even better, writes them all down into text?
That'd be even more useful - if you can copy all the bookmarks into wordpad.

I woke up this morning and started up my computer. When I opened up mozilla and began to surf a bit, a random command prompt window pops up, runs some dialog and then closes just as quickly as it began. The window keeps closing faster than I can read what it is doing but I was able to see that it said something along the lines of "mozilla/roaming profile" i think.....What is going on? I have good virus protection...at least I thought I did. This issue hasn't caused any problems, YET. Please HELP ME, before it DOES!

**Also, after reading the forum prep...I tried running the DDS software like it says...but kept getting a notification popup that says, "DDS is not meant to run in 'Compatibility Mode' this program will now exit." I checked the 'Advanced Settings' in 'Compatibility Mode Troubleshooting', but the 'DDS' program doesn't come up in the list of affected programs...I am a bit stumped at this point.**

As of today, in our domain environment consisting of Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 Enterprise machines, we are experiencing the "User Profile service failed the sign-in - User profile cannot be loaded" error message whenever a user tries to login.
This only affects users new to the particular machine. If they have signed on before and already have a cached account the computer logs them in with no issue. This is occurring on both Win8.1 and Win7 machines. We are an academic institution so this is becoming
a huge problem in our labs. Students generally use different computers so this is popping up very frequently. I have a solution for the issue. It appears that on the non-working machines that the "Default" user profile is corrupt. I have discovered
that if I find a machine, Win8.1 or Win7, doesn't matter, that is allowing first time users to logon I can copy the "Default" user profile and replace the corrupt one. I must first permanently delete the corrupt profile before copying over the new
one. I am doing this over the network by navigating the C:\users\ folder. Even this way is becoming cumbersome though as we have over 1000 computer in labs. I have googled and googled and I keep seeing the same answers offering various solutions, none which
are any more practical than my method. I cannot find information on a cause or a reason of why this would just crop up out of nowhere. I suspect maybe a Windows update but I cannot verify that yet. ... Read more

When I go to Start/run and type in:

Firefox logs me onto my ISP home page, just like I had clicked the Mozilla icon to log onto the internet.

I think my windows XP may be corrupt. If I close firefox, I must create a new profile every time by running
firefox.exe -ProfileManager
and even when I do I cannot see the profile file I just created. I cannot load a profile from a flash drive or other location.
so I leave firefox open for as long as I can until I have to shut down my computer.
My Documents and Settings file constantly has 'read only' box highlighted even if I change it for 'all folders, files and subfiles'
I've searched for similar problems here but any ones I found were not applicable or not answered.

I've done a Malwarebyes scan and things look clean, will post any other things requested if you think you can help.
I'm running to the store, will look back in about 30 min.

Thanks in advance

I have a tablet with OmniPass fingerprinter/password version 3.50.25.2 build# A55530108 that came installed from the factory new back in 2005. It has worked great. I am the only user in Windows on this tablet. Now I am having serious problems due to re-installing the Omnipass onto my tablet by reinstalling the Motion Computing Utilities and Drivers CD that came with my tablet. I had been using it happily for many years and saving lots of passwords! I did not know that running this CD would wipe out my passwords profile file. But apparently it did! It must have overwritten over it with a blank profile file.
But luckily, I have a CD copy of my Omnipass profile created back on 6-24-2006 that I would like to import to get me out of this mess! But I can't seem to import it. It keeps erroring out while trying to import. I think it is a "Domain" issue (see notes below)
I have read all of the Help on the Omnipass Control Center. The program is working great. But I drastically need some help importing my old profile. I have tried so many options like deleting the user Jeff (I am the only user on this machine) and then tried to import the profile. I get lots of pop up messages while trying to import - like:
Storage device could not be accessed
User Removed
Access denied
I have tried two different domains: JEFFTABLET and Domain. It put this JEFFTABLET in for me automatically when I ran this import mode. But I have read the Help notes and it says to use the domain Domain ... Read more

Hi,

I reformatted my hard drive - best thing I've done for ages.

Anyhow backed up Outlook 2003, which i have setup for 2 Profiles:

:1 Outlook (personal)
:2 ESafetysigns (work)

This created several *.pst files which seem to cover it, they are:
:1 Outlook.pst, and
:2 ESigns_postmaster.pst

(Both *.pst have significant Memory sizes so i assumed all the data required was in there, however I did question the naming of "ESigns_postmaster", but I though Outlook automatically created the *.pst for me)

When I reset up my Outlook I have successfully brought over my Outlook.pst and all my personal data, but when I set up the second Profile and attempted to do the same for ESigns_postmaster.pst it has not worked?

I assumed Outlook would look for ESigns_postmaster.pst, but in fact on creating a new profile, (called ESafetysigns), has called it Outlook2.pst.

I tried to open it using File > Open > Outlook Data, but its asking for a password.

I did not allocate a password and tried some of my favourite passwords but no luck there either?

Any ideas, i was thinking of renaming ESigns_postmaster.pst to Outlook2.pst, but worried that will mess it up further?

Thanks, Simon.

Actually - not that successful - just reailsed I have to set up all my accounts again as this does not seem to get saved as part of the *.pst - how do you save accounts?

Brink, this one is another issue that you may already have a solution for on hand.

I "Think" I have done it like this before in windows? XP? Not recently for sure. This will be for Windows 10 X64.

I need a way to export a specific printer profile such that it can be imported into other office systems. The owners don't want everyone wasting a ton of color Ink on printing webpages. I have the two Office printers already setup on my systems using a profile where B&W is the default and I named the printers 'Front B&W' and 'Back B&W'. Everyone already has these same printers installed using the supplied drivers from the mfr. They are large Canon Office systems and the setup program has no optional choices during install other than "Run". Nor can i find anything in the Admin Panel on the printer itself. Color control is done at each User's system

Is there a way i can export the two named profiles i am using from my systems and let all the Users import it to add a Front and Back B&W Printer to their own systems? This is preferable to changing their only copy to B&W as they do need color occasionally and will end up wasting more ink and paper by wrongly printing in B&W when they need color.
If they change the setup for the printer, they will not remember to change it back. Even worse, some of them will accidentally end up changing settings that i will get called to fix afterward. Having a color version and a B&W versio... Read more

I opened Mozilla and it asked me if I wanted to use default user or "Mike"

I picked Mike because that's who I am but all my favorites are gone.

I searched through all the options but I can't figure out how to switch back to default user so I can get all my settings back.

Thanks.

Answer:Mozilla Profile Switched

I believe Mozilla has a User Manager. It's possible that your user is pointing to a default or new user folder.

Try to see if you can change the folder to your old info.

Your Mozilla information should be located (depending on your OS) in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Internet\Username , or "Mike" in your case.

Hi,

Long story short, I got a virus last week and received terrific help from CatByte. The link to that thread is below. Everything went well and my computer was running better than it had in years. CatByte suggested I do some further cleanup and maintenance to help keep me from getting another virus. I ran TFC cleaner and after that I couldn't open Firefox. I get the message that Firefox is still running and to close it before trying to open it again. There are no Firefox processes running. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox to no avail. When I did some investigating as to what the problem could be, I read that the profile lock could be the cause and when I went to find the profiles I discovered that the Mozilla profile folder is empty. I think the profiles are somewhere but they aren't in that folder. Any help in getting my Firefox up and running again would be most appreciated. Here's the link to the previous thread:

Thank you!

Answer:Mozilla Profile Folder is Empty

Don't use Registry Cleaners! See if yours is reversible or try a system restore if you have a restore point between fixing the problem and using the cleaner. If not, you can build a new profile without "hunting" for the old which is probably easier.

We have users on Windows 7 Enterprise machines.  No one has a roaming profile. Users cannot install programs.  The users move around so they don't use the same machine all the time and there may be 20 profiles on one machine.  They don't
always logout but the machines are restarted once a week at least.   Occasionally we may delete profiles on the machines but this is a remote site so we seldom do.  Users primarily use remote apps. served up either by Citrix or web interface.
Little is done locally other than printing.  All machines are imaged with the same software. All users do the same thing.  One user in an office of six machines, can only login to three of the machines with a temporary profile.  She has no

none for this user.  No .bak profiles for her, nothing.  I found a post that suggested increasing registry size/reboot but still no clue.  This has been going on for months and she just let me know but I don't know if she called the help desk
and they did something before.  Event log has errors saying:

Answer:Windows 7 Enterprise - User logs in with temporary profile - 3 different machines/no roaming profile?

Thanks.  She's working on the computer and does not logoff and back on quickly.  I just rechecked and there absolutely is not a .bak with her name.  On either computer.  I did find one for Temp and one for another user so now I have a
second user getting the profile issue.  I renamed that one and when the other user logged in, he got his profile.

Guess I will just re-image the computers although I'd like to figure it out but I don't have the spare time to waste and don't want my user to keep getting the temp profile.  My company won't pay for the support and frankly, in all the years I've
been in IT, I've never had MS resolve one issue for me.  Not worth paying for.  Oh well, thanks for your suggestions.  If I have time to devote to this and figure anything else out, I will post the answer.

Greetings,

A couple of days ago when booting up my computer informed me it could not load my profile (XP proffessional) so was creating a temporary profile for me. I found a post http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/951831-lost-personal-settings-boot-up.html about recovering lost profiles and followed the instructions (create new profile copy of local settings from my old to my new profile). Time to get my e-mal back. I have followed the instructions for recovering Outlook Express files (*dbx) but they won't import into Outlook 2003.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Solved: Recovering Outlook 2003 files from corupt profile

OK, figured it out myself but will post for anyone else who runs in the same problem.

1st make sure you have set your windows explorer to view system files and hidden files

1. go to old profile/application data/ mircrosoft/ outlook and copy the Outlook data file (this is a .pst file)
2. paste this on the desktop of your new profile
3. Open Outlook go to File->import export
4. Select: Import from another program or file click next
5. Scroll down to: Personal Folder file (.pst) click next
6. Browse to select file location of Outllok data file, select do not import duplicates
7. make sure you select checkbox for "include subfolders" and import items into the same folder in "Personal Folders"
8. click Finish

This imported all my e-mails, contacts, calenders but did not import my e-mail rules. No bigie, I can recreate the rules easily

Cheers,
Marc

Hi
After experiencing some blue screens (graphics driver related) I reverted back to 314.22 and this morning decided to give the card a good clean.

This is my main PC which has Windows 7 Home Premium, Q9450, GTX 260 (216).

Somehow I managed to corrupt my user profile and received the User Profile Service failed the logon message. Following the advice to boot in using Safe Mode showed only my profile with no access to the registry editor or command line. I then rebooted in safe mode with command line and enabled the built in administrator account. The next reboot into safe mode showed my account and other. Since mine is the only account that I have set up and I am not able to create a new account (the Control Panel user account options do not work) I have no idea what to do next.

I would prefer not to have to perform a fresh install so any help would be gratefully received.

John

I got this error message (among several others) this morning when I tried to log on. After reading the different events in the Event Log (I attached 1 of each event), I tried to troubleshoot the problems (here's the list):

1502: Windows cannot load locally stored profile

1508: Windows was unable to load the registry 'C:\Users\Deana J. Shaffer\ntuser.dat' and 'C:\Users\Deana J. Shaffer\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\\UsrClass.dat' (quotes used to ID files)

1511: Windows couldn't find local profile-logging on with temporary profile

1542: Windows cannot load classes registry file

but didn't find any information on how to fix it. After a few minutes of brainstorming (and cussing out my computer! ha ha), I did the ONLY thing I thought would help: run System Restore, which solved the problem.

My questions are: WHY did this happen (registry/files were corrupted) and HOW do I keep this from happening again?

I'm running Windows 8, 64-bit operating system, x64 based processor.

Answer:Event ID 1511 User Profile Service--Logging on with Temp Profile

There are two answers/solutions one for XP/vista/win7 the other for win8

Event ID 1511 is the important one the others are a result of 1511.

In either case you should read this first & simply reboot first.

Occasionally, Windows might not read your user profile correctly, such as if your antivirus software is scanning your computer while you try to log on. Before you follow the methods here, try restarting your computer and logging on with your user account again to resolve the issue. If you restart your computer and it does not resolve this issue, use the following methods to resolve this issue.

Hi,

I have a user that has now left our company and would therefore like to delete their roaming profile from the profiles folder on our server.

I have deleted their account from Active Directory and have then tried to delete their profile from the roaming profiles folder. But when I do this I get the access denied message, the reason being that the file may be open or I do not have sufficient rights. I have also taken ownership of the folder so I have all the correct permissions.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks,

Answer:Access Denied when I try to delete a users roaming profile from the profile share ?

Hello,

Try to reset the permissions of the folder, and then make sure you have ownership of the sub folders to.

What OS are you using?

The entire profile folder with all subfolders, files, etc is duplicated under c:\winnt\system32\repl\import\scripts\ on both my notebook and desktop computers. Does anyone know why this is and do I have a settings turned on that I am missing or something malicious going on here. Thanks

All,
I want to preface this inquiry with the following: this is a home lab environment and does not affect production systems in any way. Any information provided will be tested in a test VM prior to execution on any critical system.
I recently joined my primary home system to my lab domain. I wanted to retain all of the settings and configurations of my local system but use a domain account to login. I followed this migration write-up:
Step by Step : Migrate Local User Profile to Domain User Profile with all Settings

The gist of the migration involves adding the domain user to the ACL for the C:\Users\localUser with Full Control and propagate those permissions through the folder. This step worked without issue. Then, modify the ACL for the HKCU hive by adding the domain
user to the ACL with Full Control and propagate those permissions through the hive. This step appears to work, but some keys cannot be modified. Finally, we change the ProfileImagePath for the domain user SID under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
and reboot.
The change appears to have worked without issue. All of my settings are intact, and the look and feel is as expected. One very significant problem, however, is that the window (explorer.exe) size and location cache is not functioning. If I click on File
Explorer, the window opens as usual, but the layout is using tiles while I prefer the Details view. I change to the details view and make some other changes, clos... Read more

Answer:Explorer size and location cache no longer works after migrating local profile to domain profile

I figured out my own issue. Don'tcha love it when that happens?
I logged into the affected machine as the domain administrator, and when I loaded the ntuser.dat hive for the affected user, I noticed that the \Software\Classes key didn't exist. It did, however, exist for the logged on user and it appears to correlate
directly to the key under HKU\[SID]_Classes.
On a hunch, I logged back into the affected profile, drilled down to HKU\[SID]_Classes, and when I checked the permissions, I noticed that the domain user did not have explicit permissions to the key and subkeys. I added Full Control permissions, propagated
them through the key and subkeys, rebooted, et voila! Everything is back to the way it should be.
I'll be leaving a comment for Mahdi Tehrani to ensure this is done to prevent issues like I had.Ron Arestia, MCSA (Server 2012)

I've got a XP Pro machine running on a Dell D505. I can log on as admin and it runs for about 20 min before BSOD. When I try the users login it says windows cant find local profile for this user and the registry is unable to read in or write, logging in with temp profile.

The BSOD is a driver issue. He said he installed a print server and then it crashed the next day. Trying to fix that now.

Anyone had this problem before with the profiles?

Answer:Windows cannot find local profile? Logging in with temp profile?

Something could have gone wrong and a file was missing. It could also be that your RAM and HDD is defective or corrupted.

First, if this isn't the correct forum, I apologize.
We image our machines with SCCM 2012r2 in our environment. From time to time on our Windows 7 machines, we've come across the issues that after imaging, if a user tries to log in that has no admin permissions,
for the first time, the user profile service fails to load, thus not allowing them to log in.
The fix for that that we use is to delete the iesqmdata_setup0.sqm in the Default User profile.
However, on our Windows 8 machines, this file doesn't appear anywhere. Since this is the first login of the user, there is no user profile for that user anywhere, no reg key to delete, etc.
What i've had to do in this case, is to go to the default user profile and edit the security permissions. It is already set to "Include inheritable permissions from this objects parent."
What i had to check off was, "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object."
Without this box ticked, no users without admin permissions on their account could login and would always get the User Profile Service failed to start. Once this was ticked, those users could log in.

Now, this doesn't happen on all of our windows 8 machines. Matter of fact, i believe it's only happened on a dozen or so out of about 400.
The image we use is a standard 8.1 Windows install with a few custom programs and driver packages for the machines. Same custom programs are included in our... Read more

when i try to create a new user profile ~ with or without a password, it shows up on the main login page, but when i click on it to open, the message "UserProfileService_service failed the logon_user profile cannot be loaded". i have searched microsoft support with little solutions listed. and the ones that are listed seem too technical for me to be trying on my own. there are many posts there with this problem, but they all seem to be several years old. are there any current fixes to this problem?

i am using windows 7. i have never been able to create any accounts other than my administrator account & the one account i use for all my general computer use. i have been using norton 360 with no problems. i have resorted to just using any "log in/log out' links on all the sites my husband wants to use.

i am really not all that confident doing anything super technical to fix this, since i don't have a real understanding of different extensions or types of files. i am afraid i could really mess everything up really bad. but, it would just be SO MUCH EASIER & FASTER if i had my account & my husband had his own account.

if you can help me out with a fairly easy fix here, i would be so happy. and, if you post an answer to this post, please speak like you would to a 5 year old. i don't know most terms, but if i was helped every step of the way, i'm confident i can do this myself... that is if there really is a solution to this problem... I followed the tutorial here User Profile - Change Default Location and it worked beautifully... All my user docs are on the D drive and the Start button entires all point to the new location.

HOWEVER when I tried to log in this mornias wand was faced with my normal log in prompt for a password to my profile, it accepted it, and then told me "The user profile service failed to login. User profile cannot be loaded.

It's the only account, so I cannot get in via another account.

I assume it's looking for something on the D drive instead of the C drive (or vice versa) ... But I carefully followed the tutorial. I assume one registry setting is off. ProfileImagePath???

I can only now get in via F8 options. I tried safe mode, but there is no regedit in safe mode And it won't let me create a new account .

I can rebuild yet again (win 7 has not been kind to me) but not sure if my last image was before or after the user profile change

Are there other boot f8 boot options to get me out of the jam??

Answer:HELP! User profile service failed the login - profile cannot be loaded

Via the help panel I can now get into regedit.... But now what?

I looked at steps 10 to 14 on the tutorial and I have the correct registry setting, ie ProfileImagePath pointing to D:\users\media

So is there another registry item to change?

The ProfilesDirectory key says %systemdrive%\users. Should it be changed to d:\users??

The tutorial went on to say I could delete my c:/users/media folder....which I have not done yet, so I don't thinks it's that.

Hi everyone, I am a system admin at a small non profit organziation.  We use a lot of lenovo laptops from r40's to sl510's.Currently I have been experiancing an issue with the R60's on my network.  We run a windows server 2003 ethernet network, nothing fancy.  All the laptops have 1 gig of memory. Lately I am finding that I am getting the error when trying to log into the domain on the laptops. "Windows cannot load the users profile but has logged you on with the default profile, cause: not enough resources" The accounts I am using do not having roaming profiles so its not related to that. When this happens I cant sign into the domain, or even if I try to log in locally on the machine I get "net service not running" error.  I am able to log in in safe mode localy and on the network with no issue.  So I dont believe its a network related problem. The only way I am able to fix this problem is by editing the registry and increaseing the PoolUsageMaximum and PagedPoolSize values. Does anyone know why this keeps happning to this model of laptop?  I thought 1 gig to run xp should be ok, the older laptops like the R51 and R40 dont seem to have this issue, neither do the newer SL500 and Sl510, so far it seems to be only hapening to the R60's and it has happend to atleast 5 of them so far.

Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

Is the error I get when I just installed Windows 7.

Nothing saves, I've tried reinstalling it once, did nothing. I still get the error.

Remember, this is a fresh install. I am on it now, I re-formatted, I did everything normal.
You think it might of been a bad CD?
I just don't know what to do here.

Edit: I am going to try and create a new profile, and delete the old one. I'll let you know what happens

Answer:Windows Cannot Load The User's Profile But Has Logged On With The Default Profile

Corruption of the user profile can be a pain to sort out, especially if it’s the index file that’s failed. SOMETIMES, however, simply logging off, leaving the computer at the ‘Press Ctrl+Alt+Del’ screen for about 30 seconds or so, then logging in as usual, can solve this without any further intervention, so I’d suggest giving that a go first.

Further suggestions are a bit more involved.

Log in as another user with administrative rights (such as Administrator) and then open the My Computer icon and navigate to the local hard disk and into the Documents and Settings folder. Look there for the folder which has the same name as the user who’s profile cannot be loaded and go into it. You may have to unhide hidden files and folders (from the Tools menu, select Folder Options and then the View tab, then, in the Advanced Settings box, under Hidden Files and Folders select ‘Show hidden files and folders’) and then locate the file NTUSER.DAT and rename it NTUSER.OLD, then log out, and back in as the failed user. This should replace the corrupted file and allow you to log back in.

If that fails for any reason, again, log in as another user with administrative rights (such as Administrator) and then open the My Computer icon and navigate to the local hard disk and into the Documents and Settings folder. Look there for the folder which has the same name as the user who’s profile cannot be loaded and rename the folder; usu... Read more

I am trying to rename a user profile under C:\Users (I am logged into the Administrator profile on my computer), and am getting an error that the folder or file is in use, so I cannot rename it.

I have tried multiple options to fix it after researching online:
I tried ending the "explorer.exe" process, and then restarting it via "new task" in task manager. It was suggested that this would "unlock" the file or folder for a short period of time. It did not work for me.
I tried clearing both my recycle bin and my "Thumbnails" folders from Disk Cleanup. That also did not work for me.
I was going to try to disable thumbnail caching temporarily by following instructions online, but the computer was unable to locate "gpedit.msc".
Could anyone advise? This is a very important step of a process I'm being worked with on in a separate thread and I cannot proceed until I have renamed this file, and am afraid to restart the computer since I've just done a "takeown" command on this Administrator profile.

Hello,

I have an issue that I need serious help with. (The user is my boss...nuff said.) He has been using a laptop with windows 7 professional for some time now and recently he reported to me that when he undocks his laptop and takes it on the road (for example) he does not see his desktop icons, quick launch etc... If he saves a file to the desktop for example, it is gone once he logs off or reboots. We recently got him a new laptop running windows 7 enterprise and are still seeing the same issue! Now, we are using roaming profiles in our environment and I am considering moving him to a local profile as this is really the only machine that he uses. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix his local profile? I want to say that it either related to GPOs or his user account as this happens on two different machines. As far as redirection, we have his documents redirecting to his home folder but there are not other user policies applying to his account. Thank you for your time and advice in advance!

Answer:Local profile data not saved locally - roaming profile

The reason this is happening is that he is part of a domain likely, and when you are away from the network the computer cannot login into the Domain. He will have to switch his profile to local.

Hi. I'm having this problem where when I tried to log into my computer it gave me this thing that my user login has failed and a temporary profile had been created. I was looking at other form posts with this problem and going through the steps. But while I'm in safe mode at the moment I still can't get into my administrative account on my computer. It won't let me access it because the profile is corrupted(I'm assuming?)

I was using: User Profile Service failed the sign-in - Fix in Windows 8 this thread to help me. But I'm stuck on step five because it just says: profile image path: c:\users\TEMP which is not my user profile but under the .bak it says my correct profile.
I don't have another admin profile. I'm the only person who uses my computer.
Ugh I don't know what the hell I'm doing I'm terrible at this kinda thing.
Please help :'(

This question has been raised before by others but apparently no solution was offered by anyone.

I have two user profiles on the same PC with one (main user)having the administrator rights.

Today, when I attempted to log in as the main user, I got the following message:

" Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator."

I found one microsoft support note which suggests that a new profile needs to be created and the contens of the old profile except .dat files have to be copied in the new profile folders.

However, all my folders in the original profile including MY documents and Favorites are EMPTY.

I am unable to retrieve valuable files. Can anyone suggest a step wise procedure to locate where my files have disappeared.

By the way, I tried system restore operation to restore the system three days backward. yet, everything is the same and the folders are empty. so, i have undone the system restore. thanks

PS
AS AN ADDITIONAL INFO, if it might help, i have discovered rather large "FOUND.000" folders ion"C" drive. the last one has the size 897 mb which is about the same time that the folders and files disappeared. i have read that these foldrrs are similar to .chk files and can be remvoed. however, i am not sure of this in view of the missing data.

When I open Mozilla via local icons, it will read and load a specific profile. This allows me to use 3.6.13 (..\firefox.exe" -p "FF_3_6_13" -no-remote) and 4.0b9pre (..\firefox.exe" -p "Minefield64" -no-remote) without one interfering with the other. (4.0b9pre is set as default).

When the browser opens via an e-mail or web page hyperlink the profile file is ignored. I can live with it but sometimes I need an add-on I use and it is not running.

Is there a setting I can use to have Mozilla read the profile when opening it from a hyperlink?

Answer:Mozilla ignores profile when opened via email/web hyperlink

Check your profiles.ini in Notepad it should look somewhat like this:

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0] <--- FF 3.6 profile
Name=New1112
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/j39iqzek.New1112
Default=1

[Profile1] <--- FF4 Profile
Name=FF4
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/dgu37doz.FF4
Default=1

Make sure the Default= is present in EACH Block and of course have it point to the profile Block you want to use for those email links

Originally I had all my data files in drive D and only programs in drive C. Somehow my old user profile got corrupted and the Backgound wall paper is not working properly. So I created a new admin profile to fix it but now I have a mess .

After I created a new admin profile and moved the old users folder/files to the new user , I decided to delete the old profile after everything seems to be working properly . When deleting the old profile I elected to save old user files to my desktop ( fortunately) . I now have a very fragmented system . Some of the folder/files are still under my old username in D drive , nothing in my new user name in D drive plus almost all of the folder/files from the old user ( in drive D) are now in a folder on the desktop where windows elected to place them when I elected to save the folders/files. I really need all the old user folders.

I would like to have the Data in either under my old or new username in Drive D instead of fragmented all over the place. I realize I ended up in this situation because I didnt understand fully what windows will do when creating and deleting user profiles.

Please suggest what I have to do to clean up the system?

Thanks

Before proceeding, I would backup the computer to an external location such as a USB HDD or network location. If you don't have the ability to do this, at least track down all the files you want and copy them to a USB flash drive or other external device

Hi all. I've been building a modest PC so that I can simply run my games emulators through my plasma TV as well as films and music. I'm using the old D: from my other computer which holds all the games, films and music.

After a nightmarish 2 days of hardware problems I finally have XP installed but my current roblem comes when I log on and at the windows startup screen I get the message -

'Windows cannot create temporary profile directory. This may be caused by insufficiant security rights.'

Which is then followed by this message -

'Windows cannot load the user profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system'

So I am on windows but nothing works because I need administrator right and permissions to run programs like my emulators (or at least to take ownership of them to make them run!) I went to user accounts in the control panel to mess about but any changes I try to make are met with the message -

'Object required'

I have googled the problem and there seems to be absolutely zero information on it. The microsoft site had a small section about part of it but the fix it gave was completely useless and did nothing.

Can anyone here help with this? I'm at my wits end being so close.

Thanks. System specs below -

When attempting to login to my main profile, after a several minute wait, Windows loads normally, but I receive a notice saying that I have been logged into a temporary profile, which would be deleted upon shutting down.

As far as I can tell, this started happening immediately after switching my cell phone from "LG Software" to "Charge Only" mode, while windows was logging in.

During every bootup, I am now prompted with the following options:

Launch Startup Repair
Start Windows Normally

Upon selecting "Startup Repair", I am immediately shown the error "a required device is inaccessible".
It has just recently stopped giving me the "Startup Repair" option any more so I can't get the exact error code, but I believe it was 0x00000225, or something similar.

I cannot successfully load normal safe mode, or safe mode with networking. They fail with blue screen. I can only load safe mode with command prompt.

I have tried running "sfc /scannow". It finds errors after about 20% but says it is unable to fix them. Attempting to run chkdsk /f does not run on next boot.

It's been a while since I've done a backup, so I'd rather get this profile working again, than have to re-install. I also need to mention that this is an OEM (Dell) copy of windows, so, doing a repair install doesn't seem to be an option, or is it???

Hey all!

I've been experiencing stability problems on/off with my rig, but now they seem to have been stabilising (hurr durr).

I've recently bought a 1TB harddisk and 4 additional GB of Corsairs XMS3 DHX RAM, bringing me up to a total of 8GB.

Now, I tried to install 6 GB first, in tri-channel mode, and it worked fine.
When I installed the remaining two in dual dual-channel mode, however, my profile will not load, and I am given a temporary user profile. All my personal preferences are gone, including firefox bookmarks, desktop shortcuts, start menu preferences etc.

I'm posting a query to corsair as well simultaneously, but do any of you know or have a clue as to what might cause my problem? Or more importantly: how I can fix it?

I ran the memory diagnostics tool included in vista, and it told me I had a memory problem, but did not specify what.

Thanks for all help. It is much appreciated!

Hi

My machine was working flawlessly 12 hours ago. Started this morning and got a temporary user profile. I searched the archives and got instructions to remove two .bak files in the registry to be able to reaccess the profiles without errors.

Now I have two active profiles: User1 is system admin, User2 is standard user, both were corrupted. Both can now be accessed.

My machine has an SSD for systems stuff and a hard drive where I keep all my data. My data is stored in a folder named User2. I want to be able to access the documents folder, pictures, music etc as before. I can get to them now but have to navigate there.

I think what has happened is that I have a new profile also called User2 which is on the SSD which does not point to the existing data folders on the Hard Drive.

How can I link the two together?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:How do I link data locations to my profile after a profile corruption?

Hi

Solved my own question. I was confused a bit by the Win 10 Ctrl panel [Settings > System > Storage] which only allows the Drive to be selected. This I did changing all options except Programs to point to Drive D.
Then I went to File explorer and selected the quick links to Document; Pictures; Videos etc and brought up the properties panel. Selecting the location tab showed that it still pointed to the users directory on the C: drive. I edited this entry for documents to show D:\User2\Documents where my original data was. I repeated this for all the other folders. Everything is now linked.

Is there anything else that will ensure persimmons for installer, ect and the admin user profile to work like it was all setup out of the box and everything reinstalled fresh?

Answer:Restore profile permissions to user profile folder

Taking ownership is not quite enough, you have to also grant permissions, I do it like this:

Code:
takeown /f "%SystemDrive%\Users\defaultuser0" /a /r /d y
icacls "%SystemDrive%\Users\defaultuser0" /inheritance:r /grant:r Administrators:(OI)(CI)F /t /c

You can reset permission using Windows commands or you can try this utility with GUI.

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire RC500 desktop:Pentium 4 3.2GHz, 1024 DDR RAM, Windows XP SP3, INVIDIA FX5200 128MB Graphics Card.My computer tower is half-profile size, and I need some advice.I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card, so I can play games that require DirectX 9 and Shader Model 3.0.Can anyone recommend a graphics card for me? I have a slight concern that I will need to upgrade my OS to Vista, which I really don't want to do... so if anyone can recommend a graphics card that will work with XP - any help and recommendations would be great. Thanks

much to my disappointment I found out that the HP Compaq DC 5800 micro tower desktop computer is not built squarely. (happen with two PCs of same type)This means that if I use extension cards built for this size case I am unable to put the cover on my PC because part of the card protrudes when it is snapped in securely. I however have found a way around this problem: this time when buying my expansion video card I purposely chose a low profile one. This shortened the mounting bracket of the card and enough that I am now able to snap the side cover on my PC

Answer:Low profile card in NON low profile case worked!

Yep, the card usually the same but the mounting bracket makes a difference, come cards come with both brackets. The older horizontal [non-tower] cases were easier to work with in such a situation, all the weight of the card was in the slot.

Hey all
I have an XP machine running at home as well as a W2k3 server as a DC. The XP machine is joined to the domain, but I would like to create the same users on the DC that are currently on the local machine and keep their same profiles. So when the user logs on, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference between logging on locally or on to the domain.

Anyone know of a way to do this?

Thanks

Answer:Copying local profile to domain profile?

1. create domain accounts, log in once with each
2. Copy their local profile contents to their domain account,if the username is the same as their local one the domain account will that the domain name appended to it (username.DOMAIN)
There will probably be some permission issues you will run into but if the domain accounts are part of the local admins group on the computer there wont be a issue, though that could be a big security issue depending on your situation.

i THINK that will work, test it out on one machine/user account and see how it goes.

Just did a clean install of Windows 10 (Pro), installed all the updates, but my Start Menu is broken - when you start typing in the search box, it shows no results, if I type "Settings", nothing comes up, if I type "Word", nothing gets there. Curiously, if I type the full name ("winword"), it manages to find the file.

I tried to fix this by:
1. Powershell method
2. Setting Refcount of user profile in registry to 0 and restart
3. Rebuild the search index (rebuild done, but no change)

Now, about a year ago, this has happenned to me once. That time the only thing that worked is that I created a new user profile, and then copied everything from that profile to my usual profile. After that everything is OK.

So I created the new user profile (everything is OK on it, Search and Start Menu work sweetly) but I cannot locate the website with the instruction on how to copy the complete profile from my new one to my old one that I am used to.

This was a fresh installation, so I have absolutely zero files in My Docs / My Music / My Photos ,etc, I only need to do this to fix the broken Search / Start Menu on my usual profile.

Anyone know a page with the instructions that work for sure?

Cheers

HI Guys

Hope that you can assist me.

I need to merge a local profile on a computer it's domain profile.

Example local\test1 to domain\0004

Each computer will have its own domain profile, it will not be a roaming profile.

Our company needs to move away from the local computer profiles to domain profiles.

Do you maybe know of an easy way to do it?

It will also need to move all settings, like email account to the domain profile.

We are using Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise.

Thank you

I had this guys profile become corrupt and it gave him the warning message but said it would create a TEMP profile so he could still log in to XP. I did some renaming and copying over of his old profile stuff to a new one and noticed the TEMP profile was no longer there in the Documents and Settings. Does anyone know if the TEMP profile becomes hidden, moved somewhere else, or deleted?

Thanks

Has anyone come across this issue happening frequently lately ....

In the past 3 weeks I must have had 20+ PC's / Laptops that have had the same problem (see image below)
Although I know how to fix it and I have had it crop up before, I've never had it hit so many units in such a short space of time.
I've browsed quite a bit to see if there is some sort of virus/malware that may be causing it but there doesn't seem to be anything out there that might be the culprit.

I've scanned all the units for virus/malware and they all seemed to come up pretty clean. +15 of the units were win7 and +5 were win 8.

Any clues would be most welcome

Recently my computer was freezing a lot and I had to shut it down (from the turn on/off button) and I know this is bad.
Yesterday I shut it down like this then I tried to turn it on it didn't load past the "Welcome'' screen and after some time it loaded and a message showed ''You have been logged in with a temporary profile. You cannot access your files and files created in this profile will be deleted when you log off". I tried to log-in in save mode but it did the same thing.

I was going to try ''Repair user account'' to see if it works but i can't see the ''ntuser.ini'' file? (This is about trying to copy the the files from the old account to a new one). And there are 2 ntuser.dat files one is called ntuser1.dat and the other is ntuser2.dat (or something like this) and I don't know which one to copy. Also i tried to copy all the files but it said there's not enough space.

I read some things and it said there is either not any solution or there were some things that worked for SOME people but I'm not very good at computers and in these solutions it said to delete some thing but I'm scared to lose some things in my old account or to ruin my computer!

When I log in the new account i created or when in the temporary account I CAN'T connect to internet. My internet is with cable and before when i start my computer i was clicking on the connections icon (in the right corner of start menu) and then i would click to connect. if he deleted the profile, with out deleting the files its all still there

go to my computer
doulbe click the C ( local disk that the os is installed on)
hit the documents and settings, in here will be all the users profiles
so if you see her log on thats her profile, you can go into and save data needed

you might have to change the folder view to see everything

open explorer, go to tools>folder options>view> change the radio button to show hidden files, and uncheck the hide protected os files and hide extentions.

if the data is here there, you will need a application to recover the data, google getback ntfs

Thanks

Hi, When I try to start my Dell Inspiron Lap top, the error message "The user profile service. Service failed the login. User profile can not be loaded" :(What I can do to solve this issue. Please help me. I couldn't see a administrator or guest account.

Answer:User profile failed, profile can't be loaded

start tapping the F8 button as soon as you reboot, it will take you to a screen, choose last known config, if that fails do the same again and choose repair.should that fail, reboot hit F8 and choose safe mode, in safe mode create a new account, and reboot in the new account move all your files from the user file that you lost to your new account, and delete the old accounts.you can run a repair of the installation using the repair dvd you should have made when you got the laptop...but if you didnt make one you can get one here: http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windo...if that fails you can do a factory restore, however that deletes all files and reset your laptop to the original state as in the day you bought it.see the full info herehttp://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...i hate computers!but cant help myself....

The battery is no good on my Gateway laptop, so computer will only run a few minutes when unplugged.  I accidently kicked plug loose from wall and didn't realize it; I saw computer was shutting down due to low battery and I quickly plugged it back in, but it was already powering down.  When I re-booted it, it had to run through all the disk-scans and then when it finally booted, it was under temporary profile and not mine.  I tried to follow directions on Microsoft help forum (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile) to fix corrupted user profile, but their step-by-step instructions don't match up with my computer.

In particular, MS tells me to create a new profile and copy my old profile to the new one.  I created new profile, but it tells me to copy all files except the following: Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini.  On mine, there are 2 Ntuser.dat.log files and I don't have Ntuser.ini.  The other thing I'm not understanding is once I copy them, I can't figure out how to move it all to the new profile.

P.S.  I also tried to change the corrupted profile settings using this method: http://www.sysprobs.com/fix-temporary-profile-windows-7 but had no luck there either.  When logged off/on had the same temporary settings as before.  Plus, the computer is running incredibly slow and locks up a lot when on the internet.  Anytime I have to restart it has to run through... In windows XP, when you were connected to a domain network (i.e. office in place of work) you had a profile called Profile Template that was shared (being the default template for all/most/what ever users needed). Does windows 7 have profile template sharing, and if so how do you do it? The profile template profile can be used, but with windows 7 professional, we cannot find a way to share the profile in user settings (or whatever setting it is under computer's properties, advanced tab, user profiles settings). Whenever the profile is selected we cannot get the option to share it. Help would be much appreciated how to do so. Thanks.

Question: Firefox profile

I just installed Win 7 on me Vista machine..

I saved a Firefox profile to my external HDD but ain't got a clue how to get that profile back into firefox, can anyone help with a simple walkthrough as Firefox is quite new to me and I haven't been using it long..

the profile has all my bookmarks and toolbar info including password stuff too, so would be good if I could get it all back..

By the way this Windows 7 is a bit spiffing isn't it...Super speedy and I have given MSE a go on here to give it a thorough run through, we'll see how it goes but all accounts at the moment seems like its pretty light on resources and doesn't intefere much which is all good, but time will tell if its any good or not!

The file which contains your FF Profile is: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

So a week ago, when I got off work, I came home and my computer was off, this was very un-usual because I never turn my computer off, ever. So I proceeded to turn it on and it would start the boot up sequence and then shut off, I took the case off and proceeded to see my CPU Heat Sink had became dislodged, and my cpu was heating up, and the thermo protection in the bios was causing the computer to shut off. Simple fix, right? Well I fixed it, the problem is I removed my sata cables from the HD to fix the issue and somehow when I put them back on I dont know if was static or whatever it did something to my Windows profile, and when I tried to login it says something like Cannot login access denied. So I then went into my bios and enabled the recognize USB ports, (my keyboard is a usb plug in) SO I could then actually boot up in and use Windows 7 safe mode. I used safe mode command line to enable the administrator account of windows, logged in, turned the pw protection off my account, (that I was trying to recover,) still couldnt log in, same message: (Something like this
"Group policy client service cannot login access denied "

So I noticed that if I logged into the windows admin account first, then logged off of it, THEN it would let me login to my profile, but it is missing a lot of my stuff, I am mainly after the browsers cache that had some important information in there & important history, and a lot of other things I setup, so is there any relatively quick... Ahh, yes. Back again. I have dealt with headache after headache with these **** default profiles on Windows 7, and I feel like I'm almost there.

I have one last question. If this question cannot be answered, I'm so far beyond "stuck" it's not even comprehendable.

I have successfully gotten the default profile to work on Windows 7 systems. The only thing is, it doesn't pull the printer.

Is there any sort of setting I need to adjust on the printer to allow it to be used by all users who generate a new profile?

EDIT - Of course after I post this, I log in to my 10th local test user and all of the sudden it grabs the printer.

I love consistency.

EDIT AGAIN - Oh, it's there. I just have access denied to it, even though I'm connected to the server and have domain admin access.
...........................

EDIT X3 - Tried again. It's not there on another profile. But it was there on the last 3 I tried. Weee.

Answer:How to carry printer from profile to profile?

So there's no... "make available for all users" option??

Hello Internet.
About a week ago, I had this really weird problem were the start menu and taskbar in my Win 10 desktop just didnt work, and this was because I had attempted solutions on a previous problem. I figured it might had to do with the Appdata folder, so I kinda messed with it, along with the registry. After I resolved the explorer problem, using the registry, my only problem now was the built in apps, which didnt work on my profile, but it did on other profiles I had created. Then I realized it was my profile that was corrupted. People on the forum I started explaining my problem insisted on moving my account from the old profile, to the new profile. Here is the link ti my previous forum:
click here after going around my pc and stuff, I decided, why not move to another profile. My current profile I have had it since windows 8 was on pc. I could have just transfered the whole thing from old to new profile and not even make this question, but here is one thing that concerns me. Moving the Appdata folder means that I am replacing my new profile with the old, which as I mentioned earlier is corrupted. So it'll probably be the same. I also considered the fact that maybe missing files from the old profile where already on the new profile.
Anyways,The main thing I want to know, is how do I move my Appdata folder from my old profile to the new profile witho... Read more
