A Message For Net2Phone Comm Center Users

Question: A Message For Net2Phone Comm Center Users

For those of you who are using Net2Phone Comm Center 1.6, it has just recently been upgraded to 2.0.

Although I personally find it to be a great program for making PC-to-phone calls and have been using it for a long time, the upgrade process has a nasty habit of leaving numerous spyware files and registry entries in your computer.

Once you finish making the upgrade, reboot, run the Spybot - Search & Destroy spyware detection-and-removal utility, remove everything in red that it finds, then reboot again. This will take care of the problem.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am a Media Center user and in my home its my only computer.
I use Win7 for Work and Taking Care of Stuff for the Home...
and about 2 years ago I went from a part time Media Center User to
a Hardcore record everything on cable before I cut the cord user.
But after I cut the cord and go to Antenna I am just at the range where
TV Signals arent stable unless I install a 50foot tower and a really large antenna.
But even so I will want to record everything that way when 2 shows conflict during primetime
I will have it to watch when Jerry Springer or Judge Judy is on.
I will also have everything I have recorded off of Cable and I will be Legal
meaning watching torrents won't get my internet shut off
Which means my Phone would also get cut off along with my ability to make money as
a developer part time...
Streaming might be the solution for some people but it comes with a cost.
Either you are paying for services that add up to a higher cost than your cable or dish packages.
You are forced to resort to illegal torrents or sites.
or you end up paying higher costs for internet because it takes a ton of bandwidth to stream HD 1080p to the living room, kids room, parents .. whatever all at the same time ..
That free Gigabit Google ain't no where to be seen... so you will be buying 100-200Mbit plans so you can keep your TV, Phone, Alarm / Video Surveillance online at the same time and still surf the web and update your android apps on your cell...
You ever had Video Streaming, someo... Read more

Answer:15% of Windows Users are Media Center Users that Can't Upgrade

Please check this DVBLink wiki
I used this app a while ago to watch and record IPTV on Windows Media Center. But I think they can do it with other sources too. The latest version can record TV server side so you don't need a Windows Media Center anymore. And now I use Plex server for all of my Video stuff instead of Windows Media Center.
It's really a shame MS stopped so many successful apps.

working with vista homeprem sp2 32bit here. ran a quick avast scan a few minutes ago, it caught some small-time junk in the temporary internet files (which were purged easily enough), but it also pointed out C:\users\all users as "the system cannot find the path specified". so I open up windows explorer and try to go there. cue the "refers to a location that is unavailable" error message. now, I don't usually need to prod around in there so I'm not familiar with what normally happens, but I know vista loves to have a bunch of directories displayed that are shortcuts it uses for people who leave "hide protected OS files" checked (I don't, I want to see what's where) which really ought to not be shown when you're not hiding stuff but I digress, that's for MS to be groused at after win8 flops.

SO. should I panic that I've had another thing sneak past the security screens (mvp hosts file, spyware blaster, avast's shields, mbam scans)? nothing else seems out of sorts, but one man's paranoia is another man's preparation, and all.

Answer:C:\Users\All Users refers to a location that is unavailable *error message*

This is normal. All users folder points to c:\programdata folder. These are called symbolic links.

I recently purchase Lenovo 3000 N200 series laptop (Model: 0769-BWG or TY2BWUK), with Window Vista Home Premium. On first boot everything was fine. I first tried to capture video from my miniDV camcorder via Lenovo multimedia Centre (Cyberlink Power Director), it works well. I also enjoyed some of my DVDs on Lenovo Multimedia Centre (Cyberlink Power DVD). Then, I set-up Windows media player 11 for my mp3 files on first run, everything is still fine.On the next reboot suddenly I got few messages, related to Lenovo Fingerprint software (fpapp.exe), Corel Snap plus software and Lenovo multimedia software (UI_res.dll missing). It instructed me to re-install software. I reinstalled all the above software, it works fine on re-installation. But as soon as I open Window Media player 11, all the above software stop working.Lenovo Multimedia software never uninstalls. Other softwares where able to uninstall and reinstall correctly, but fail to work after window media player run.Any ideas!

Answer:Pre-installed Lenovo specific software (Fingerprint, Message Center, Multimedia Center) problem

The great idea is - to update Media Player. But telling you by secret - it's a bad idea. The really great idea - not to use MP at all. Use Winamp, foobar, VLC(+skins) or iTunes, but not MP...No trust for MicroSoft since Longhorn appeared.

Question: Net2Phone

Have been trying to get Net2Phone working with AT&T ISP but they will not provide me with the information to even attempt to use it.
A firewall is a filtering device protects access to a network. Under certain circumstances, Net2Phone can work through a firewall. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and ask if they have a firewall. Once
they confirm that they have a firewall, ask if it is possible to make some changes to there firewall in order to allow Net2Phone to work. Provide them with the following information and see if they can provide you with the necessary information.

"Net2Phone uses two ports, UDPPORT and TCPPORT. PCs calling with Net2Phone use the UDPPORT to send your voice to the called party and use the TCPPORT to route the call back to your PC. Your Network Administrator from your ISP must tell you the ports for you to use when calling with Net2Phone. Each port
should have a numeric value ranging from 1 to 30000."

Once you receive the UDPPORT and TCPPORT, you will need to modify your net2fone.ini file. Double click on the 'My Computer' icon and open the c:\windows directory. Find the 'net2fone.ini' file and double click it to open it. Under the "Config' heading, hit your return key twice to create two blank lines. Write in your
TCPPORT specification on the first line, and your UDPPORT specification on the second line as follows, and where XXXXX represents a number between 1 and 30000:
UDPPORT=X... Read more

Why dont you try to use a different ISP such as the free Altavista ISP. If i am correct that Net2Phone is a way to call long distance over the net for free, i can see why AT+T would not want to help. They are in the business of charging you for long distance service.

Dear CommunityI have a very strange issues:I hope to receive some helps or suggestions.I run windows XP SP2, Winpatrol 11, Antivirus Kaspersky 7.0 , on a new Asus Laptop, Core Duo 2GHz, 2GB DDR, 160GB, bought 3 months ago. This problem makes me crazy: I cannot access or I usually work in China, so I was keen to believe there was a national firewall, impeding access to this site. I can use Skype, but I still have credit on Net2phone, I wish to use it up.In conclusion, here in Italy my laptop cannot reach net2phone site, my brothers 2 PCs can! What I did?- I DO NOT use any proxy, (I have direct access to Internet, both in China and Italy)1. I disabled all kaspersky (7.0) features (including firewall)2. unistalled Ad-Aware and kasperky 73. disabled windows XP firewall4. checked any services in WinPatrol Plus 11.3: I found no strange services.5. killled most of processing from Winpatrol Task Manager6. run hijackthis (see below for the results) AVG Anti Rootkit for the whole night > results: no RootKits8. Hey,I want a normal Admin user and a user that automatically runs media center. I have the media center user's shell set to eshell.exe and not explorer.exe. But when I login to this user explorer.exe loads but not the media centre. Would this be resolved by removing the explorer.exe shell from All users, and applying the explorer.exe shell to just my other user.

I'm trying to disable the Action Center messages for all users on Windows 7. I've configured a machine the way I want it, including disabling all Security and Maintenance messages under the Administrator account.

I then run sysprep using an answer file created with WAIK with the setting CopyProfile=True which copies the Adminstrator's profile onto the Default profile.

Works well for the most part except the disabling of action center messages. After sysprep and upon logon to the Adminstrator account (autologon configured in answer file), all the messages are ticked again. Same for a new user who logs on later.

I've tried unticking all the messages, then exported the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Action Center\Checks, edited it to HK_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Action Center\Checks but it didn't work.

Is there any way to untick all the messages for all users? I've already configured Local Group Policy to remove the Action Center Icon. I'm not too sure if this will also prevent messages from coming up though.

Any suggestions to point me in the right direction will be much appreciated.

I have been using the common method of using an answer file to move the users directory to a different location while in audit mode in sysprep... pretty basic stuff ok, now the problem I am having is that once rebooted in oobe phase, after the users directory has been moved, there is now no more option for "Add features to Windows...." or whatever it is when you are trying to install a key for W/ Media Center... Is there anyway to have your users directory on a different HDD and still be able to install WMC? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I've had Net2Phone for over a year and a half and never had a problem. However, in the past 3 days whenever a person calls, they hear a beep (like a fax- but we dont even own a fax!).

We'll see the persons name on the caller ID, pick up, and we cam hear them, but all they hear is the beep. We'll have to then hang up, and call them back (outgoing calls produce no problem)

I have not messed with any configurations, and didn't change a thing about the placement of my innomedia gadget (its behind the lynksys router)

Does anyone have any recommendations whatsoever?

Thanks a bunch,

Dear All,

My computer has been suddenly popping up these Windows Media Player: then giving a username I don't know. I wish I had more details for you. When it pops up it gives me an option to share my Windows Media Player with them,a nd I click on no.

I should have written this when it happened. But it only started happening when I tried XTube one time. So I hope I didn't get a virus.

Do any of you know what this might be about?

Also, I forgot what information you need in my signature. I have a Windows Vista 32 bit (Service Pack 2) on a Sony VAIO VGN-FW140E.

I have a W/L AP set up on my home network and I really don't mind if some of my neighbors use it every so often as long as they don't abuse it. I think, though, that a lot of the time they don't know they're on my AP. I want to be able to have a message pop up on their computer when they tap into my signal that just tells them that they've entered so and so's network and outline what is and is not acceptable use. Is there a way to do this?

Answer:A message to users connecting to my W/L network.

Why not just secure it?

I dont personally see the point of informing users of what is and isnt acceptable on your connection, and not stop them from doing it, just asking them too...

Set up WPA, or a WEP key, turn off SSID broadcasting, use MAC filtering, and no one will bother you much.

Thats my opinion, its just easier to stop them than ask them to stop

I have a little annoyance with an Action Center PC issue message that I do not know how to get rid of. The message is listed as important, and shows up under the maintenance  heading as "Check your backup". The error was caused after I canceled
a backup I was creating when I figured out I didn't have quite enough room for it on my other drive. I was able to successfully create the backup after clearing room for it, but the message never went away.

I see there is a check box to turn off notifications for specific issues, such as backups, but checking the box only hides the issue in the Action Center and does not get rid of it. The Action Center icon still remains in the system tray area, and occasionally
displays its tooltip/balloon tip on the bottom right-hand side, which is the annoying part I guess. It also just kind of bugs me that my computer thinks there's an "important issue" wrong with it and I can't do anything about it.
Oh and clicking on the issue just brings me into setting another backup up again. I already used this to create my second attempt, and although successful, the issue remained. I don't suppose there's a way to clear out all the stored issues from where ever
they're stored? Thanks.

Answer:Action Center message won't go away

What about turning off the message specific to Windows backup from Action Center settings.
1. Open Action center by navigating to Start\Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Action Center.
2. Click on Change Action Control settings link on the left panel of the window.
3. Uncheck the Windows backup checkbox under Maintenance messages.
4. Click on OK
5. Close the window and restart the computer.
6. See if this removes the message.
7. To turn it back on, click on the same checkbox from step 3.
This should remove the obsolete backup message.
If it still persist, try this solution:
Troubleshooting: Clearing the Windows 8.1 Action Center Backup Message

I have the message too, really not to concerned about changing it, does not really bother me. In the eyes of MS, we cannot be trusted to do the updates ourselves. So they make sure we are reminded to change the settings. Trust me better to do it yourself. Sometimes they send updated not applicable to your set up. Then problems occur. Also, better to install only a few at a time to avoid problems.

How to Fix 'Set Associations' Error Message (for Vista users)

For several months my desktop shortcut links have not been working. As well, a few web site links would not work. I researched this problem online and everyone (techies and alike) said, 'Go to Control Panel and....'. Of course, none of these methods worked. After trying many, many, and even more methods, by sheer dumb luck I finally found the answer (on my own - no thanks to all the online techies).... and it turned out to be a very simple solution (without any downloads or purchases, etc) !

Solution to Set Associations Error Message: (for other barely computer literate users like myself)

1. Single right-click on 'Windows Logo' in the lower left corner of your screen (aka Start Button)
2. Single right-click on "Default Programs" (not the "Control Panel", but the option below it)
3. Single right-click on "Set your default programs" (this option fixes all these errors)
4. Single right-click on "Internet Explorer" (under 'Programs' list)
5. Single right-click on "Set this program as default" (near bottom of screen)
6. Single right-click on "OK" box in lower right corner (above clock)
7. THAT'S ALL IT TAKES! (go back to your desktop screen and right-click on any previously broken shortcut links)

Good luck too all,
sidney-dave (now in Victoria, BC, CANADA)

Sorry if it's been answered before, but the Forum Search isn't working for me today.Every few days, while downloading emails, I get a small, bluish popup titled 'Message Center', saying I have 2 messages. I always just close the popup (from its taskbar icon, not the cross on the popup). Today's popup mentioned 'Rolling Stones, hot photos, steamy vids'.Am I right not to touch it with a bargepole, or could it be part of an innocent instant messaging program? (I have none enabled, but my settings could have got corrupted).Incidentally, today's BBC Working Lunch program had an item on rogue diallers, and how some are activated by clicking the cross on a popup. They said that was the only way to get rid of the popups, but I thought closing them from the taskbar was safe. Is it?I use Trend PC-Cillin Internet Security ver. 11, which uses popup messages. Can Pop-up-stopper and the like be told to accept certain popups?

any body got any good ideas about a good in house message system? Looking for something that can be installed on all computers that will notify that a new post was posted. I need to spread information thru out my network like, when a computer is ready for a customer, or the status of one, or sending a message to a certain computer on my network of what needs to be done to a system. Open source would be great.

After doing a scan with ErrorTech I got the following message: "Please reinstall performance center.
How do I do that. I have window vista home premium.

Answer:Message: Please reinstall performance center

Remove the current copy of Performance Center from the computer. To remove the files, go to the "Start" menu, "Control Panel" and either "Add/Remove Programs" or "Uninstall a Program." Find the Performance Center entry in the program list, right-click the program name and choose "Uninstall" to remove it.

Find the original download of Performance Center on your computer. If you downloaded Performance Center from the Ascentive website and didn't delete the original file, you can more than likely find the file in the hard drive's "Downloads" folder.
If you do not still have the original download of Performance Center saved on your computer, go to the Ascentive website, click on the "Buy" button of the product that you previously purchased. Use your email address and the password you created when you created your Ascentive account to log in to the site and re-download Performance Center.
Double-click the Performance Center file once you have found it on your computer's hard drive. Follow the prompts of the installation wizard to reinstall Performance Center to your computer.

Hello all, I'm getting a message that I hope someone can help me with. Well, here it goes. My Mom asked me to look at her computer to see what was wrong. It's a HP with XP, and its about a year old. I removed several viruses and spyware. I also installed Spybot, Ad-aware, Spywareblaster and Spywareguard. I also disabled the "Messenger Service" and set up automatic updates (it only had SP1). While doing this I kept getting a Security Center warning message. It's a fairly long message, but it basically states it has detected a privacy intrusion attempt and asks if I want to download some certificate updates. The weird thing is at the top it says "Security Center", and I have the understanding the Security Center isn't installed until SP2 is installed. Am I wrong on this? I am still downloading updates, and in the properties of My Computer it reads "Service Pack 1". The message also looks odd, it really looks more like an ad than a warning message. Should I download the certificates, or is it spyware that the programs I have installed aren't finding? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Security Center Warning Message

The Security Center runs as a service. Look in Services, but you're right that it comes with SP2, so it is most likely an ad or popup of some sort. Don't listen to it.

After installing Muvee Autoproducer and restarting my computer, I get continuous error messages that Media Center has encountered a problem and must shut down. When I uninstall (or if I install and do not restart) Muvee, the error goes away, but I bought and want to use this software without the annoying messages. Please help. I bought the extended service warranty from HP and they were no help and microsoft won't help for less than $ customer service for Muvee. I am running windows XP on a HP pavillion Media center pc. Very appreciative for any help to make error messages go away

Answer:Media Center Error message won't go away

Sounds like a bug in the software for Muvee.. If no one is going to help you from Muvee then use another software then.. Don't use the software then..

Hello,   I received a message from my Lenovo Solution Center saying that my "last Windows Update occured more than 30 days ago". When I click 'Launch' to fix it, the Windows Update window opens, but there are no 'Important Updates' available. There are about 8 'Optional Updates' available, but I'm not sure as to what I should do? It says this is 'Non-Critical', but I'd prefer to keep everything operating 100% on my computer.   Any ideas how to resolve this issue? Thanks,Laila

The Solution Center is trying to base the Notification through the date when you last do a Windows update.

I have a message from the "Action Center" in Win7 that is telling me the following:

Firstly, I'm not 100% sure what that means. Is it saying that this occurrence of a malfunctioning USB driver only happened once, on that date? And that since then the issue has not come up, and that it has been working just fine since? Is that correct?

If that's the case, then can I safely just forget about it?? I checked the device manager, and there didn't seem to be any problems. There weren't any yellow exclamation marks like the kind that WinXP used to display whenever there were driver issues. So should I try to do anything or just forget it?

Also, if I understood the error correctly, how is it possible that the usb driver failed to work on just one day and has been working fine the rest of the time? Usually with computers if something like that doesn't work once, the issue doesn't just magically go away on its own...

Answer:Odd Maintenance message in Win7 Action Center? What to do about it?

Have you tried, I don't know, reading the message and doing what it says? You know, like it's telling you to?

The event log offers an online help link. For some events this works as expected and shows a page with explanations for the logged event. In other cases a German windows 7 home premium online help link ends up on a German page explaining that there
is no help available, but that the query was noted for future improvements of the online help. These are the sound cases.
A third variety ends up on a general (non-localized) page, e.g.,
This general page proposes to enter the query manually in the style "vista application error 1031". When I try this for "windows 7 disk event id 11" (or variations of this query) with Chrome 9.x or IE9 I end up on another general page with an empty search
On that second page I can enter the question (example: "windows 7 disk event id 11")  again
manually and get the first twenty of about 1,000,000 hits.  There are two problems with this procedure:
1: the "disk event id 11" issue is apparently popular enough to deserve its own working online help page without further manual interventions... ;-)
2: the first manual search form should already do the trick without going to a second search form http://social.technet.micro... Read more

Yes, I was talking about the "online help" links in a Windows 7 event log, sorry if that was unclear. Somebody should fix this, as noted it works for some events, but fails for others. If you have a good idea who is responsible for this issue please tell
them. I could check more events if that helps.

Whenever I start up, I get a message from the Windows Installer stating that it is configuring the Solution Center. Then it says that it can't find the information needed because it is on a disc that came with the computer. It says to find the disc that has solution center on it and insert it. Why am I getting this? I've had my computer for 7 months now. I got 2 discs with the computer. One disc says: Drivers and Utilities Already Installed On Your Computer (Contents: Device drivers, Diagnostics and utilities). The other disc says: Drivers and Documentation (Contents: Device drivers, Setup Guide, User's Guide). Would either of those be what they're referring to? Thank you for your help.

Answer:start up message about configuring solution center

No, those discs are not what it's asking for.

Solution Centre is usually an HP component supplied on the HP CD you get with an HP printer or HP scanner (or an HP all-in-one printer/scanner).
That's the CD it's most likely to be asking for if you recently installed any HP device.

For about 3 years now, I've been experiencing slow/sluggish response accessing my eBay messages when logged in to my eBay account. Typically, it takes 3-5 minutes (and sometimes I'm just unable) to view or send a message on eBay.

It's interesting that the problem only occurs with the eBay message server ( but not on the rest of eBay where eBay listings are hosted ( And, it only happens on my DSL internet connection. But, I don't seem to have any such issues anywhere else on the web outside of eBay, just the eBay message server. To confirm, my smartphone does not have this problem with eBay messages when using my cellular connection to the internet. However, if I connect my smartphone to my home WiFi DSL connection, I get the same slow/sluggish response on the eBay message server.

I have ran a trace route on and I consistently get time outs from hops 15 thru 30, which is right after it makes it to eBay at hop 14. I have attached a screen capture of the trace route results below. I also get the same trace route results on which makes me believe the slow/sluggish issue may not be related to the trace route time outs at all. I'm not sure why the time outs are happening on when I don't seem to have any issues with the main website, just the message server. However, I do realize that is a sub-domain of and time outs occur right after it hits (see image bel... Read more

The disk was from an E Machine. Any suggestions aside from not to do that again?

Answer:Error message when opening media center

Its very likely you have wrong drivers for graphic card on your PC, running disks from OEM manufacturers is not always best thing as they customise the install and load drivers and files that are just for their PCs.

In Device Manager do you have any yellow ! marks and if so by what?

As your PC is a custom build, please run the below as we will need to know what Motherboard and Graphic card is being used in your PC to get you the correct drivers, the 1st ones to install are the chipset but we will know which ones once you attach the Everest log.

To find this info you can use the likes of Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post Click to expand...

I have Windows Update set to download and notify, but not install automatically.

The Action Center is always displaying a message "Change Windows Update Settings."

Is there any way to eliminate that message, besides enabling auto update which I don't want to do?

If I can't eliminate warnings I have determined to be spurious from the Action Center, I think it more a hindrance than a help and might as well turn it off.

Answer:Eliminate Action Center message about Windows Update?

if you open up action center, there should be an option under Windows Update saying something along the lines of "Do not display messages about Windows Update"

or you can open up action center, click on action center settings on the left and uncheck windows update

I have the latest intel drivers. I use wired (lan) connection via company network with Symantec Endpoint Protection software. I suggest you get your companies IT department involved. There may be a rule in the Endpoint Protection firewall policy that is blocking your ability to copy files to the network.

sorry if i give you a bad translation, since all you see, my system is in spanish...but the problem is; i did a registry cleaner(to erase some entries of a bad uninstalled software) (with comodo registry cleaner) after restart i notice that the antivirus and firewall icons on the clock area were gone, after couple of restarts they came back.... now the activity center flag is delayed (bt now i dont remember if it is normal or not) and once the flag is there i test the activity center by disabling firewall, then the flag come out with a red "x", but not with the antivirus. In this picture, as you seei have disabled both, antivirus and firewall and it only shows the firewall as "important" message.should not show the antivirus status as an important message too?

Answer:Why disabled antivirus is not an important message in activity center?

Registry Cleaners cause problems they do not cure them. NEVER use a registry cleaner. Use system restore to go back to a point before you used the registry cleaner.

Hello all,

I am running Vista Home Premium O/S & all has been ok for the last month but just today I keep getting Security Center alert message which says 'The Security Center Service Can't Be Started'

Nothing has changed on my PC & each time I try to turn on the service I am met with the above message. I've noticed that Norton Internet Security 2007 intermittently has a red X over the tray icon - upon opening Norton it just states that Windows Update needs enabling? (this never used to do this either).

Definately baffled by this one! I was going to re-install Norton product but thought it best to wait for any assistance / advice you guys may have.

Thanks for looking in,

Whenever I start Windows Media Center, I get this error message.

Media Center was unable to start Messenger. Please make sure it is installed on this system.

I don't want to hear or know about Messenger. Is there any way to get rid of the error without having Media Center start Messenger?
-I disabled it "Start when windows starts" box because I don't want it to start, it's a waste of RAM.

Answer:Windows XP Media Center - Very annoying error message

sorry if i give you a bad translation, since all you see, my system is in spanish...

but the problem is; i did a registry cleaner(to erase some entries of a bad uninstalled software) (with comodo registry cleaner) after restart i notice that the antivirus and firewall icons on the clock area were gone, after couple of restarts they came back.... now the activity center flag is delayed (bt now i dont remember if it is normal or not) and once the flag is there i test the activity center by disabling firewall, then the flag come out with a red "x", but not with the antivirus.
In this picture, as you see

i have disabled both, antivirus and firewall and it only shows the firewall as "important" message.

should not show the antivirus status as an important message too?

Answer:Antivirus status is not an important message in Activity center

Do you by chance have multiple antivirus programs installed?

I have a Dell PC and, despite uninstalling and reinstalling dvd player programs, I keep getting the message above when I want to watch live TV and to restart but the video decoder isn't in use. I can watch DVD's though in Media Center. Has anyone had this problem before. I've tried ringing the card manufacturer (hauppauge) but they say it's a Software problem. I've already paid Dell for their software help and they are hopeless. Nothing they've suggested works. I'd be really grateful if anyone knows the answer or any suggestions.

Answer:Media center problem with Qosmio G35-650 - error message

This is not easy to say if it?s a hardware or software issue.
You could check the device manager for some malfunctions.
If there are any yellow exclamation marks so I would recommend reinstalling firstly the driver.

But on question: Did you run the MCE?
In such cases you could try to roll back the OS to the early point.

Yesterday, I started receiving error codes. Here are the two error messages I get when I try to run the TV tuner in Media Center 2005:

"A critical Media Center process has unexpectedly failed. If problems persist, please restart your machine and try again, or contact technical support. Code: 3"

"Some of the files needed to play radio or video are missing or corrupt. Try restarting the computer."

I restarted the computer - nothing.

I tried to run System Restore - it would not let me restore for some reason.

I then tried contacting Microsoft for support, which they said I need to contact the computer manufacturer because they installed it. However, HP says I need to get my support from Microsoft. They go back and forth...which led me here.

I have an HP Media Center PC m7360n

Thank you for any support you can lend.

I have been having problems with Media Center, not downloading the guide.  I have been trying to follow all of Microsoft's recommendations for a fix.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  The advice told me to go into Services and find two files on the list and make sure they were both started:

Windows Media Center Receiver Service (was started), and
Windows Media Center Scheduler Service (wasn't started, I started it).
Then it told be to go to Show Processes from all Users.  And find six files on the list.  The instructions assumed the files would be there.  Only one of the files is.
How do I get the missing five files on the list?:
ehmsas.exe (missing)
ehrecvr.exe (on the list)
ehsched.exe (missing)
ehschell.exe (missing)
ehtray.exe (missing)
mcGlidHost.exe (missing)

Microsoft's directions assumed that these files would all be there.  It did not say what to do if any were missing.

Please HELP!!!

I hope you can help me. The computer I'm using to write my grad thesis(!!) won't connect to the internet because of the error in the title. I used all the suggestions in the forum welcome page (run the specs, HiJackThis, etc) I tried checking other users with similar error displays, but either the threads are closed, or they have no replies, or it's not the same error and I'm not sure if I should try the fixes suggested.

Here is all the information I think you'll need (if not a fair bit extra!) Thanks in advance to any help you can provide, and Happy Holidays!

Hi there
I know whatever people advise that loads of people are using the Leaked RTM build. However you will run into those "Please activate Windows" prompts at the bottom right of the screen which doesn't really help when trying out the desktop GUI.

You can turn these off LEGITIMTELY by the old way of running in admin command mode slmg -rearm (you need the - before rearm) and reboot your system.

Activation Trial Period - Extend Up to 120 Days - Windows 7 Forums
This isn't a registry hack or keygen -- it's a perfectly legal command in the Windows command set so available for public use (if they know about it).

Then it's fine again - I suspect for another 30 days or whenever the expiry has been set for -- might be 3 days --don't know as I have one or two things more I want to try with this version and then it's GONE.

Answer:Leaked RTM users -- LEGIT way to stop activate windows message appeari

how do i know how many days left before the trial days expire.. what command or where should i find how many days i have before the rearm? thanks.

I'm trying to print a document from Microsoft Word 2003 to a network printer.
When I select print I get an error message with the following text.
A microsoft word error 7, "The RPC server is unavailable" has occurred. When
I close the error box I get another error that immediately follows.
A microsoft word error 10, "There is a printer error" has occurred.
Have tried to troubleshoot the problem by re-installing the printer and this
does not help. Have even re-installed Microsoft Office 2003 and this has not
stopped the problem either. I have 12 workstations on a Windows 2003 server
and only 3 of my workstations are having this problem. All workstations are
running Windows XP professional sp2 and print just fine from all of my other server
applications. I have scanned all systems for malware and they are all clean.
I don't know what else to try and hope someone has seen this problem and may
have solution.

Answer:Solved: A microsoft word error 7 message occurs when users try to print

It could be caused by the Print Spooler service being stopped - that would explain the second error, which is an out-of-memory error. If that fails, make sure you have the latest printer driver - and the one you have may be corrupt.
If all this fails, try installing the printer again, but use the IP address of it, rather than having Windows auto-search for it. Another meaning of this error is that the PCs are unable to recognize one another.

Hello,First off, I wasn't sure if this should go under the UI section.  Please feel free to move this thread if it is not in the right place. We've already begun our deployment of Windows 7 RTM and would like to automate the disabling of the "Windows Backup" (and only) messages in the Action Center.  After poking around on Google and other such places where I'd normally find how to script this, or a registry key I can modify, I can't find anything on this.Does anyone know how to do this, or can point me to a resource that explains where settings for Action Center are stored that can be modified? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Disabling a specific Action Center message via script or registry key

Hi?You can modify the "CheckSetting" vaule to turn off "Windows backup"message via regedit. This vaule is located in the following location:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Action Center\Checks\{01979c6a-42fa-414c-b8aa-eee2c8202018}.check.100Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window and rename the file to ABC.reg. After that you can run this reg file to turn off the "Windows backup"message. You need log off and then log in for the change to take effective======================================Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

This error message keeps popping up: "The Catalyist Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver or enable your ATI adapter using the Displays Manager."   I have the latest driver and as far as I can tell, it is the only driver it is possible for me to "enable." Why does this message keep popping up and how do I stop it? Thank you.

Answer:Catalyst Control Center ATI graphics card error message

Uninstall the catalyst control center. Download the most recent display driver from Lenovo - not from ATI. Uninstall the existing display driver. Install only the display driver - do not install catalyst control center.  It is totally unecessary in this computer, in my opinion.  Both XP and Vista do a simpler job of managing displays. Don Mannino

I'm using Windows XP Media Center 2005, and I'm having problems with burning a video to DVD, and some sound/picture quality issues.

I recently made a video from my photos in Windows Movie Maker, with music and effects, etc. I saved it as both a Windows Media Audio/Visual file and a DV-AVI file. I was able to burn both kinds of files to DVD using XP Media Center 2005. I found the quality of the WMV movie was better. The DV-AVI movie plays the music at a sped-up rate, and skips intermittently, and even the picture quality seems inferior. Based on this one-time experience, I'd much prefer to burn my movies from a WMV file.

The problem: For the past couple of days I've been trying to burn another WMV movie to DVD (just as I did before). But now, part way into creating the DVD I receive a message that there has been an error: a "create failure" error in burning the DVD, and the DVD will not play on my DVD player.

I do not receive this error when I burn a DVD from a DV-AVI file - but as I said, I'm pretty disappointed with the results. Any idea why I could burn a disk from a WMV file before, but not now? Alternatively, any ideas as to how to improve the quality (especially the sound) if I burn a disk from a DV-AVI file? I'd prefer not to invest in any new software right now, and really don't want to have to recreate my movie (which is 31 minutes long).

I've tried restarting my computer, and I still get the same error message. I&... Read more

Every time I switch on my PC, after about 5 minutes, I get this annoying notification (see picture) from my OS asking me to turn on the security center service; please, note that, on my PC, I am judge, jury and executioner, meaning I decide what stays on and off, at least I've always been so although now, with Windows 10, this has become somehow more difficult. So, yes, I have turned off the security center service because I don't need it and I don't want it! Furthermore, I most definitely don't want anyone reminding me about it!
Now. I've tried disabling every possible notification I could find under the notification menu and the security center one; I've Googled for a solution but I haven't found anything: apparently, everybody loves this service. Well, I don't so, if anybody knows a way to get rid of that pestering message, please, be so kind as to share it.
Thanks in advance, D.

While I'm here, is it possible to obtain system privileges in Windows 10? I've tried the old trick with the cmd task but it doesn't work anymore: the cmd windows does open and with "system" as well but it's not interactive apparently.
Thanks again.

Answer:Turn on windows security center service nagging message

Sorry, chum, I have the same reservations about this, but it's basically impossible to shut that off. If you turn it off, you will be nagged to death about it. I used to do exactly what you are trying, but from Windows 7 up, it has become impossible to not run that service without substantial nagging.

To get to the Admin Command Prompt, press Win+X and choose "Command Prompt (Admin)" - Under Windows 7 you could go to the "Run" panel and choose the "Run as Administrator" checkbox while entering "CMD", but that has all been changed because it's all there in the Win+X shortcut.
