Preferred Solution: Firmware for burners?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am thinking of buying a Sony DW-Q30A-B2 DVD burner. I see it's for a good price and the reviews aren't bad. You only get the drive. But when I googled the model I didn't see any manual or firmware information.

I can get along without a manual, but since I don't see any firmware info on the model does that mean its firmware doesn't have to be updated?

Thank you for your time

I am trying to coble together two non-working Zen Xtras into a working one. I receive a message: "Firmware Problem," and am instructed to reload the firmware. When I attempt to do so, the firware does not recognize the device although the device shows up in My Computer as a Zen Xtra. I have reloaded the drivers. When I attempt to reinstall the firmware, it states that it cannot detect the device and please connect it now. How do I resolve this lack of recognition?

Is it possible to replace a routers firmware w/ something other than the original firmware to update from wep encryption to wpa encryption and all the other features that these new routers have? If so is this hard to do and is there a big risk or really screwing things up?

Answer:Replacing router Firmware w/ third party Firmware?

nope its easy, and as long as your smart and follow the few basic guildlines very unlikely chance of damaging the router. Biggest suggestion is never do the update via wireless as if you loss signal or what not could loose a bit of data for the router update.

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Here it is the support site link for your model just in case.

I'm guessing that the computer is booting but the battery does not provide any charge, right?

I did not have that issue, but I'm just guessing, What will happen if you apply the battery firmware update again? You can download it manually from the support site: "Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-..."

I Have just fitted a new liteon burner to update a Toshiba CDR/DVD Combi, I would have liked to keep the combi as I do use DVD based software, but as I expected there was a conflict and I couldn?t boot to windows with both connected. Is there any way I could disable the CDR part of the drive.Regards

Answer:2 BURNERS

As you sure you have the jumpers set correctly for two devices? One should be master (normally your main burner) the other slave.I have two burners on this machine and they work quite well in each other's presence although I only use one of them for burning CDs.Brian

Question: DVD burners

I'm doing research in getting one. Man there's so many brands and opinions. What do you guys recommend and use? pros and cons? Hopefully a 8x +-R/RW drive. Nec, Lg, lite on, sony, or pioneer? and specific models and recomendations?
I plan on using it primarily to back up my dvds , back up some data, use it as a cd-r, and possibly backup sony ps2 games. Also what kind of media is best for the drives? I've looked at club.cdfreaks.net forums and there's so many opinions and problems. So for any of you guys that use and own them, please give me your input. thanks.

Answer:DVD burners

Drives that I've seen in action and also heard good things about are Sony, HP and Lite On. As for media, go with TDK DVD-R (RW)s. Or a similar quality -R (RW) media.

Question: Dvd Burners

I am considering buying a Dvd burner and want to know what the difference between a multi-format DVD-RW ie: + and - or just a DVD-RW which is just got - burning capability. It it worth getting a + / - or just a -. Also why are the DVD-R more expensive if they are + whereas they are cheaper if they are -

Answer:Dvd Burners

Best to get a multi format drive now. They are everywhere and are pretty cheap. Then you can pick you media too.

As far as formats go, I think it was found that DVD-R was the more widly supported format. Although with better drives coming out, DVD+R should be good. The difference is in the way they write on the media. Something about using peaks and valleys in a certain way... Can't remember it all, but I hope that helps...

Question: LG DVD Burners

I have been trying to find a good LG DVD Burner for a few days now, and i cant seem to understand what the difference is beetween the GSA-4167B, and it's series  wich is featured on LG's site and the GSA-H10 series wich isnt featured on any of their sites. They all have the same specs, and im told that the GSA-H20L is the successor for the GSA-4166B, wich means that maybe they ARE the same, but are different names for the same product, and once i got linked to the GSA-4166B when on a GSA-H10LB page..LG is making me crazy

Answer:LG DVD Burners

There all much or a muchness.Doesn't help with the question but most is similar, The only difference I know between Dvd-rw's is some burn to dvd-r, some burn to dvd+r and then you get ones which do both.

Question: Dvd?cd burners

How do I insteall A CD Burner If you already Have a cd-rom

Answer:Dvd?cd burners

Alright for the purpose of this im going to assume your drive that is already in there is a master, so set your new drive to be a slave and put it on the second connector on your IDE cable and then just restart windows and it should pick up on it also remember to give the drive power with the P4 connector I believe it is and everything should go smoothly.

If your having problems make sure your jumpers are in the right area, to help you better I need a little more to go off of how your drive is already set up what kind of drive your putting in IDE or SATA and your OS.

If its SATA should be just as easy as plug and play, IDE should be almost just as simple as long as you get your drivers right.

Question: Do CD BURNERS Die?

Everytime I try to burn a CD I get either a Buffer Underrun or a SCSI timeout. Is my burner dead? Should I buy a new one? It worked fine up till now. P.s. I wouln't mind buying another one, its a 8x4x32.

Thanx,

Answer:Do CD BURNERS Die?

Everything that is made will break eventually. Not saying thats what happened though. What software are you using? try updating it on through patches. Also try a different brand of CD's.

Also shutdown all background apps using CTRL-ALT-DEL before burning to see if there's any change or try lowering the burner speed in the settings.

I dunno why it is but The burner works fine after a fresh load for a few months then, boom! No burns! I get errors like "MEDIUM SPEED ERROR" in Nero and other burning progrms fail to write. The drive is FINE cause sometimes it would start burning again if I removed it from device manager and let it reinstall again. It would work for a few burns then fail again. Also it works in other systems. I am SERIOUSLY considering going back to Win98. My systems were ALWAYS stable (unless I O/C'ed them brain dead) and EVERYTHING worked all the time.

Drive is a (Matshita) Just Link 24x10x40

System:

XP 1800+
MSI nForce2 Mobo
GF4 Ti4200 128MB
512MB Pc-2700
SB Live Plat.
Maxtor 40GB 7200
WinXP pro

I am blaming my problems on the Service pack1 for XP and the latest nforce drivers. Everything worked ducky till I installed those.

Rule #1: IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT!

I've never had any burn problems with XP.
I have a Lite-On 32-12-40. Occasionally I will have a read problem with it though.

I lied. I did have multiple burn problems once,, on almost every disk i put in. But that was the fault of some cheap CD-R's I bought. Are your disks pretty good quality?

Answer:DVD-9 burners?

I have a Sony DRU700. Haven't had any problems with it. You can find some good deals online (several brands to choose from), and even Best Buy and Circuit City have them. The only problem is finding dual-layer disks. The supply is limited right now, and they're running $9-13 online, haven't seen any retail yet. Of course like everything else, the price will come down.

Im thinking its a great deal...what do u think

(ps. any ideas on my my sig image doesnt work.)

Answer:DVD Burners

Well, I've bought (or friends have bought) some I/O Magic stuff before and they where just rebadged products (LiteOn, Delta, etc.) Having said that some of the stuff worked excellent and some seemed to have issues. I would verify return policy and if they let you return it if it doesn't work like you want, then give it a test. Worst that would happen is you'll return it and have to continue looking for a better option.

Of course the "Better Brands" have stricter quality control and should perform better, at least that is what one would expect, but you sometimes find some real gems in the "not so famous" corner...

I've seem some better pricing on the net for similar products though. One place to check is NEWEGG, I've never had a problem buying from them and I think they have some good deals right now...

Question: dvd burners

i have winme adaptec easy cd creator 4, dvd rom and nero burning rom 5.but do i need to have a dvd burner to copy dvds

Answer:dvd burners

There is software out there that would copy DVD's to CDs to play in DVD players... I believe it works fine, but keep in mind you need 6 or 7 CDs(700mg) to copy 1 DVD (4+gig)

You need a DVD rom at the least to read the DVD... see if your current software has a VCD option.

To copy from DVD to DVD you will need a DVD burner.

Question: CD & DVD Burners

The computer was not recognizing the D Drive (CD). After re-booting it recognizes it, but now neither the D or E (DVD) drives work. When I put in a recorded disc the light on the drive lights up and the curser shows a disc, but it does not play. If I open Windows Media Player to play the disc, it cannot find the file. If I use Real Player it acts like it is going to work, but nothing happens. When I put a blank disc into the drive and go to properties on "My Computer" it shows that the disc does not have any free space. Even a data disc with very little date on it shows no free space. Any ideas. Thank you,

Answer:CD & DVD Burners

What kind of disk are you trying to play? A DVD? If so, you will have to purchase software that is specifically made for this purposes (such as Power DVD).

Also, it's correct for it to say there is no free space left on a CD or DVD if it is closed (which means, data can no longer be added to the disk).

Question: DVD Burners

I was looking at prices for computer parts the other day and I saw that DVD Burners are already down to around AUS $150.
Then I saw that there was new 16X Dual Layer burners around AUS $200. What are the benefits of the dual layer ones and how much would the dual layer disks hold?

Should I spend the extra dough for the 16x dual layer?

Answer:DVD Burners

Dual layer holds twice as much as single layer. Like almost 9 gigs. Enough for a DVD quality movie. Right now, single layer is good enough for me, but I do plan to get a dual layer in the future. I guess if I had the money and I were you, I would get a dual layer. Get a plextor brand drive.

Question: DVD burners

Here's my scenario: I first had a optorite DVD-R combo drive, and it was total garbage. I then get a LiteOn DVD-R/DL combo drive for christmas (most members here suggested LiteOn to me) and it worked flawlessly but died all of a sudden, I have no reciept, and I don't want to go through tons of red tape to get it replaced. Now, I had to steal my fiancee's NEC DVD-R combo drive to get me computer up and working.

What I need now, is a cheap, but good DVD-r/rw/CD-r/rw/DL combo drive around 50-60 bucks so I can put the NEC (which is also junk) back onto my fiancee's machine.

I really like this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...151-066&depa=1

Question: Blu Ray Burners

After my Win 10 install (64 bit over Win7 64 bit) my LG Blu-Ray burner is no longer being recognized by the BIOS. While I'm trying to scratch up the CD/DVD burner it replaced (where did I put ... ?) does anyone have a Blu-ray running under Win 10 that they're willing to recommend as a replacement?

Answer:Blu Ray Burners

So I opened the box and found that the optical drive SATA cable had come loose from the MB.
The 2 HDD cables have clips to secure them to the MB SATA connectors, the others, the optical (BluRay) and the ESATA connector do not.
I re-inserted the connector and now the BIOS IDs the BluRay correctly. But ... Device Manager does not! Probably because the BluRay was not sensed during the Win 10 install. I ran the Check for New Hardware 3x but that didn't pick up the Optical. (Why not anyway??)
While researching my problem I ran across a discussion about deleting the Device Manager entries and re-running it to pick up changes. I will have to redo that search.
Another possibility would be to install an SSD as the boot device. I do have another (the 6th) SATA connector open on the MB. If I get an SSD can I do a re-install of Win 10 on the SSD with the BluRay sensed by the BIOS and get a quicker boot _and_ the utility of the BluRay as a result?
Hmmm.

Happy New Year all TSGers!

MY question really displays my ignorance toward this type of thing. I received a 4X +-DVD burner for Christmas. I had someone at the office install it in my computer, and I went home and burned a DVD from a DV video tape. The first video was of Christmas morning with my wife and two sons.

When I put the newly burned disk in my DVD player, the images of Christmas morning is in the center of the tv screen, contained inside a box the size of a Las Vegas dollar slot coin. Do all DVD burners only burn the image for such a small proportion of the television screen? Can I get better software to make the DVD images bigger on my television screen? Is this DVD burner that limited sand should I get another one?

The DVD burner is a Buslink, I am using Windows XP Home, on a Gateway 850. The software is Cyberlink Power DVD XP 4.0.

All comments would be appreciated.

Answer:DVD burners, Is this what I get?

No you should be able to fill a TV screen with your video on a DVD, don't know your particular software but I would guess you've missed a setting somewhere in it like "play full screen" you may have something like "keep original size" or "keep project settings" selected.

I run a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop with Win XP Pro SP2 op system, with a modular built in Sony CD burner. Two days ago I used it to re-install McAfee anti-virus software because its ActiveShield was acting up. It worked fine. After that I uninstalled NERO Burn (new) and Cyberlink's PowerDVD program for a new external USB Cyberlink DVD burner. The software wouldn't work so I uninstalled both NERO and PowerDVD. I reinstalled NERO and the CD burner/player worked fine.

I then started to use the DVD burner for the first time to copy (back-up) my MY DOCUMENTS folder. The NERO seemed to be working as it's progress bar showed the copying progressing normally and it went through all the steps. I didn't see my DVD burner's green "on" light and couldn't hear it spinning but I let NERO go through all it's steps. I had forgotten to re-install the PowerDVD program before I started to burn the back-up DVD. After NERO went through it's copy steps I put the PowerDVD program CD in the CD Burner/player to install the program and it wouldn't work. I opened My Computer and it listed only the a:\ and c:\ drives. neither the d:\ (CD burner) nor the e:\ (new DVD burner) show.

Question: DVD Burners

Hi,

This is my first time here and i applogize if this question has been answered before.

Anyways i am currently in the market for a DVD burner. Basically i need it to back up my DVD collection since i already have lost a number of discs. What i need is a burner that is:

- Inexpensive
- Will burn R+-
- Have some sort of warranty
- Work well with windows XP
- Preferably external

Also i need to know what kind of software i would need to rip them to my computer. Free is always nice and even nicer if it comes with the burner.

I have already been referred to a few models from a friend of mine, could you please shed some light on these models and if this is a good price for the model:

Answer:Don't know much about DVD Burners Plz help

Most new DVD burners will handle all DVD and CD formats. DVD-R tends to be more friendly with stand-alone DVD players, though DVD+R is usually a little cheaper, rewriteable DVDs can be iffy in older DVD players, though most new ones will recognize them. .Your computer should not have any difficulty dealing with any of the formats. I'd recommend a dual layer DVD burner, though. They are comparable in price to single layer DVD burners and will burn DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW and CD-R discs also. Dual layer discs are expensive now, but they will drop in price as they become more available. PS2s require a special chip to be microsoldered onto the motherboard in order to play copied discs.

Using windows xp pro.

Should i also install a cd rom drive/ Thanks ppymam

Answer:dvd burners

I would install a regular DVD rom just to take the stress of reading everything from the more expensive DVD writer, as well as being able to burn on the fly.

A regular CDrom would not even be useful, a DVD reader will do everything a CD rom will do.

Question: CD/DVD burners

Getting ready to take delivery of my new, 1GIG, Plll machine. I deliberately held off on a CD-burner when I ordered.

I had (still have) a few questions:
1) which is the most "reliable" brand of CD-burner(s)?
*I've heard horror stories of incompatibiliity, that is, a CD burned on a brand "X" burner won't play on a brand "Y" computer (like in the "good old days" when a cassette tape burned on one cassette player/recorder wouldn't play exactly right on others).
*The cross-platform "compatibility" issue is paramount in that our company will begin (in October) to send out lectures and system CDs of our program(s).

2) Are RPMs', long-time bones of contention about what makes a "quality" CD/DVD ~player~, the litmus test for CD/DVD-RW (burners)?
**I can buy a Hewlett-Packard CD-R (not CD-RW) for $99 (minus my 10% discount).
(I have ~no~ need for rewrite capability so the upper end but old technology CD-R I speak of suits me just fine).

4) What are the most desirable features in a "quality" CD-RW?

Last: which "type" (and brand) of ~blank~ CDs is best for what our company wants to do?
(the buyers of the program will pay $89.99 and up for the program, so the cost to us per recordable CD is of no consequence, vis-a-vis our profit margin on each paid for package. As director of marketing, I ~do~ want to limit our exposure on returns due to ~defective~ CDs.

Hello. I have a Gateway PC with an extra slot to install another DVD burner.

I want to install a second Nec ND 3550a dvd burner.

I'm not sure how this master / slave thing works and people keep telling me to pull out some pins on the back of the second dvd burner....

There aren't any "pins" on the back of them and I don't know what they are talking about.

I'm a newb at this and I need help. ; ;

Answer:How do you install 2 DVD burners?

ok.

Well basically these "pins" they have been telling you are called Jumpers. They go ON the pins.

Here is a picture.

As you can see if you look hard enough you can see two black things over a set of pins.

So what you want to do is set you new one to slave and make sure your first one is master.

Hello,

Are the disc's burned being finalized? If not that would be why they can not be read on any other PC. Cause the disc is still waiting for more data to be burned to it and can noly be accessed by the PC that burned it till it is finalized.

I use TMPEG Authering program for it's speedy and easy VIDEO editing. However, the version I have does not do AUDIO editing.I also have Serifs Movie Plus X3, and whilst it is excellent for Audio editing, I find the VIDEO editing so slow and also rather fragile - breathe on the blue vertical line and your starter line disappears!I have just tried to convert my .TDA ( TMPEG) to a "universal" format by using Any Video Converter, but it just throws it out.Or is there a wonderful program out there that does both?geedad

Answer:Compatibility between two Burners.

Why cant you save or export your files in tmpeg as avi or Mpeg2 thats rubbish if it can only work in one format. What exactly are you editing and its source and this to ultimately to go on dvd. There are plenty of programmes out there that will do both adequatelyHave alook at the Magix range even older therefore cheaper Versions like 10 or 11 .Or the ulead or adobe editors

Just a quick Question,

if DVD media is only 16x than how are the 18x and 20x and 22x burners worth it? Or do they still write at those speeds? does the 16x on the media really matter? or did they come up with a way around this? Or am I just sheltered and have not relized that they make more than 16x media?

Answer:Solved: Dvd Burners

You can buy 20X and I believe 22X discs. They are rather more expensive and therefore harder to find. I can buy a spindle of 50 Memorex 16X DVD+R Discs for $14.99 or less at Office Depot, and they carry 20X Memorex Discs for $17.99 for a 25 pack. I stick with 16X

Click here http://www.computeractive.co.uk/vnunet/downloads/2164786/alcohol-free-edition

This looks like it might be worth a download ...

Imagine being able to store your most used CDs as images on your computer and just call them up at the click of a button! And then run them at 200x the speed of some CD drives and without requiring the CD itself! How about being able to make a backup of that CD onto another CD either using the CD itself or just using the image you have created? This is what Alcohol allows you to do and much more.

Do not have a CD/DVD writer? No problem, Alcohol 52% is the answer. Alcohol 52% is ideally suited for Laptop use (no need to take your expensive discs along to a meeting where they can become misplaced). Ideal for school/office environments where access to an image file by workstation users would be an advantage.

Note that this free version of Alcohol 52% is for private, non-commercial, single home computer use only. The license is provided personally to you and for that reason it does not allow you to make any duplicate (copy) to be sold, borrowed, assigned, leased or transferred

I am currently editing video using Premiere Version 6. I want to be able to burn the finished pieces to DVD, but I don't know which DVD burner I should purchase and what I should look for?
I wnat to be able to burn DV Pal so I can reproduce it on a normal TV, not some tiny Video for Windows format. High quality! Can anyone make any suggestions?

Answer:DVD Burners and burning

Well, in my opinion, since I've done some movie editing and burning, there isn't anything really special that you need to look in a DVD burner. As long as it is fast and it won't screw up every other DVD disc, get it.
The quality of the DVD will depend on the source video. So if you are crreating a video using a high quality camera and record it, it will look good, on the other hand if you record a video using a web cam, it sure will look crappy on a big tv screen.

Question: Replacing Burners

Should I uninstall a dvd burner in device manager before taking it out and replacing it. I am putting in a double layer on os windows 7 weather that makes any difference. Then I want to put the one I remove into another computer running XP. also we are both running 2 burners each.

Answer:Replacing Burners

Removing it through Device Manager isn't necessary, but not harmful either. DVD burners will be automatically recognized and installed generic drivers for, so you pretty much only have to power down and dis-/connect the cables, nothing else.

Can someone tell me the correct configuration and settings if I'm installing 2 burners (IDE 1 & 2, slave, master). I installed 2 burners. IDE 1 had HD Master, and Slave Burner.  IDE had Master Burner.  When I booted up, the system recognized the brand name, then while searching for drivers, started saying cd-rom and dvd-rom, and then I got the blue screen fatal error and computer restarted itself. After it restarted, I looked in device manager, and the brand name wasn't there. It only said master IDE controller, primary controller and secondary controller, as if some type of genetic driver were installed. Please help.

Answer:Configuration of 2 DVD Burners

I would do this...Keep IDE1 for HDD's only. Then hook up both DVD's on IDE2 with one set as master and one as slave.Windows sometimes mis-identifies optical drives according to what type of media is currently being used so don't fret about what Device Manager reports unless the drives are not working.Usually on newer flavors of Windows no drivers need be installed for these to work properly.

is the 8mb cache size better than the 2mb for burning faster , like making a dvd movie wondering, if so , then i'll get

Answer:8mb cache for dvd burners

In my opinion, it doesn't matter. An 8MB buffer on an optical drive that's moving 22MB of data per second while burning - data that's not reused at all - doesn't mean much when the buffer is only capable of holding .33 seconds worth of data. On a (slower) CD-only burner, the 8MB buffer might have made a difference in the absence of BURN-Proof technology, but buffer size these days is largely irrelevant. IMHO the 8MB buffer is just a selling point.

Answer:Internal DVD burners

I have a Samsung, and 2 Lite-On drives (1 is in a different computer). Friend has an Asus one in his computer. I haven't had any problems with mine, and I'm fairly preferable to Lite-On burners, as they've always been good to me. You might want to look into getting a LightScribe burner, as well (will say "LightScribe" in the drive's description), so if you ever decide you want to do LightScribe, you'll already have the feature. LightScribe is also just a few dollars more than a normal burner is, so it's worth the purchase instead of having to upgrade later on.

I've just tried mine on the Side Bar on Vista, clicked on disc copy and one tray opens for the original disc. On putting that and Nero reads the disc it then opens the other tray telling me to put in a blank disc.
