Preferred Solution: Data Erased

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Data Erased

I booted up my Win 7 computer today and ChkDsk said my Ex HDD may have been corrupted and proceeded to delete some files. Those were some very important files - how can I get them back? (Video and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 files)

I prefer free methods on this - I know I can buy software to do this, but I currently don't have the money. Or a very cheap method, if nothing else.

It's ironic that today was the day I was going to back up this drive.

Please help!

Years of music and family pictures where in that drive someone plz help.

Did mandrake format that drive as well?

Can I use some prog to recover the data?

Answer:Recover erased data

Hi There!

There are a couple programs that can recover data but you're gonna pay for it because they aren't cheap.

You might try searching out a "Data Recovery" company and for a fee, then can most likely get everything back.
Good Luck!

Hi, all.

It looks like I accidentally erased a CD-RW that had some personal information backed-up onto it. hehe

1. Is it possible to recover data from an erased CD-RW?

2. If so, is there some software that is recommended for the job?

It would take me quite a while to find some of the information elsewhere; so, I'm just trying to save some time here.

Your input is much appreciated!

Answer:Recover data from erased CD-RW

I found this on a Google search. May give it a go.

I'll make this quick, First, I am new to these forums so forgive me if I am not following protocol for posting on here. My dilemma is this: I had a friend send me a video he made on Windows Movie Maker which I tried to save on my computer. When I tried to move it to my desktop, I selected that it be moved into a zipped folder( which I honestly didn't know what that meant) and when I tried to erase the folder and start over, all my information, saved papers, documents, music, etc, was straight erased off my laptop. Even on Internet explorer all my favorites were erased. I have no idea what I did or what I could've done to prevent but I need help. I had a lot of important stuff that was erased and I would love to know how to either recover it, or prevent this from ever happening again. I appreciate any and all responses. Thanks.

I doubt there would be any consumer method! Although I have seen places where you can send various types of media for data recovery but it was pretty expensive

Hi everyone I'm a newbie when it comes to laptops. I recently purchased a lenovo ideapad u510. I'm haivng trouble making a recovery disk. I'm not sure how to do it and I'm afraid I'm not going to do the right thing. However, my brother was using my computer thinking he knew what he was doing and erased the data that is on the SSD. My question is if the stuff on the SSD going to effect anything such as making a recovery disk or if I ever need to recovery my laptop.  update:I just realized that the lenovo partition was deleted is that bad? Thanks in advance.

Answer:What happens if the lenovo SSD data got erased?

hi Jfranc,
Welcome to the Forums.
The recovery partition is used to restore the unit from the factory condition (this may come in handy if you get a virus or simply just want to restore from the original image). If this image is gone, you may still create a recovery drive using this method.
As for the SSD, it's usually used as a cache drive. See these guides on how it works and how to reconfigure it.

First of all, I did not do anything I wouldn't normally do with my computer. I did however recently update all my drivers/service pack1 because I was having problems which were resolved. (computer wouldn't hibernate, antivirus failed)

Today I turned my Toshiba laptop on, and It announced that it was configuring updates. I let it run and boot up, and my personal data is totally gone. Programs, things of that nature are intact, but anything else was erased. How could this happen? Is this a hard drive failure? Help?

Answer:Personal data totally erased.

I don't think your hdd has failed if everything is intact on the drive minus your personal data. What exactly do you mean when you say your antivirus failed? How did you resolve the failure? Have you since scanned your machine?

Anyway, she is now panicking as it has got to the stage where she has been asked to enter the key. My dad called an said that last night several updates were downloaded and when shutting down the PC the system apparently installed them.

This morning when he booted up the PC he said all user data was deleted, emails, desktop icons I imagine it looks like it does if one had created a new user account and then logged in with that account. As far as I can tell he is still logged in with the same account name and there are no other accounts to choose from.

any ideas with this one?

Answer:win 7 update apparently erased user data

No chance a Windows Update did that.....more likely, it's a malware infection, which is very prevalent these days. It makes everything on the desktop and Start Menu Hidden.

I would advise visiting our Malware forum on here and following the instructions for posting pertinent logs.

Hi there guys! After my wireless drama... I decided to switch back to Vista after few months with XP... The thing is, I put my a300 vista recovery CD and apparently the Toshiba Recovery CD erases ALL DATA on my hard drive...!!

Since I'm using XP now I cannot use the second option ie. system recovery so I have to use the 'out-of-box' recovery, which seems to erase all my data.

My hard drive has three partitions, the C one being the system partition. I only want to erase C and leave the other two safe for the sake of my data... but I chose the option that goes like 'erase only the first partition' and the procedure was terminated due to an error.

Is there any other way to install Vista using the recovery CD without formatting my D and E partitions?

Thanks for your help in advance

Answer:Using the A300 Vista Recovery CD without all data being erased

What was the Error Message exactly?

How big is C: Drive ?

If you have important data on D and E, you should backup your data anyway. You never know when a HDD could fail or when the file system could get corrupted.

hi my frenz....i am trying to re install the window 7 with the system image disc. but i have a confusion that when i reinstall then only c drive data will be erased or my D and E drive data will also be erased?so please suggest me......

regards thank you

Answer:which drives data will be erased when installed with system image

When going to restore a full system image backup of the main drive if that was the only drive included in the image you select the drive it will be restored to. The drive selected will be wiped clean in order to unpack the image there and not touch anything on any other drive.

There are two ways to see C restored. 1) Simply go into the Control Panel>Backup & Restore section and select the "Recover system settings on your computer" option just as if you were going to use the System Restore feature but instead select the "Advanced recovery methods" option found on the next screen.(refer to image attached)

Once there you will see the two options for restoring a system image or the need for the 7 installation dvd. Once you select the System image option you may have to browse to the WindowsImageBackup folder depending on where it was originally saved to especially any drive letters were changed inbetween.

2) The second option is seen when booting live from the 7 dvd or USB Install Key many use and right as you reach the Install Now screen look below that button for the repair tools. One of the repair options will be the one for restoring an image backup.

Question: OS ERASED????

OH NO! I run (use to run) Windows 10. Everything was working fine mostly with my beautiful PC. Then, one day, poof! I was forced to either "update and restart" or "update and shutdown" I chose to restart. I came back to my PC to find that it was wanting me to reinstall Windows 10. I thought "ok, this is weird but, maybe its part of the update?". No, it definitely wasn't. No matter what I have tried (even my recovery disc) nothing is working! Please please please help! I have way too many important projects! I've even tried reformatting the local disk. I have a secondary Hard drive with the more important files.

I started with a virus that created popups, redirected me after clicking on website lists in google, mirrored google's page and also wouldn't allow me to start the computer in safe mode, because it would blue screen. I ran a few programs like Malwarebytes, and it cleaned some stuff out and stopped popups. But, the redirecting, mirroring, and blue screening continued.

As a last resort, I wanted to scan with combofix. It said it found rootkit virus and needed to restart. Upon startup, I thought it was scanning and creating a log, but in fact it erased all my documents, pictures, and all other files and programs. I tried to use a previous set point to retrieve things, knowing it probably wouldn't work.

So here's the kicker- I now have all the programs I did before they were wiped out, but all of my files are still gone, including all the logs I gathered from scans. Oh, right, and the mirroring portion of the virus is still lingering.

Have I screwed this up beyond repair? Is there a way to get my files back and still get rid of this virus? Please help!

Question: HDD erased?

OK, so one of my users has apparently completely erased his HDD. When you try to boot the system, it first displays an "IDE device failed error." So you hit F1 and then you get a "Non-system disk or disk error".

I got into the diagnostics and tried to run a hard drive test--it came back immediately stating "no hard drive installed". So I checked all of the cables, reseated everything, and tried again: same result.

So I removed the HDD and plugged in as a slave in another machine, but I can't initialize it all, so I can't access it.

1. I have no idea how he did this (he stated that he was just trying to view some backup info on a CD)
2. Does anyone have any ideas on if any of the data on the drive might be recoverable? And if so, how do I get to it?

I'm going to talk to him again and try to figure out exactly what happened, but I'm not hopeful.

Question: OS can be erased?

I bought T400 last week,  I don't like OS preinstalled on my notebook and the way how my hard drive partitioned, If I erase the harddrive and install my favorite OS, my laptop is still under warranty? thanks

Answer:OS can be erased?

I am 99% sure that changing an OS would not void your warranty. Lenovo might not help you with driver problems under Linux or Hackintosh, though. But anyway - you can always create system recovery DVDs before installing a new OS.  And restore the default OS in case you're sending the laptop to warranty.

Question: second HDD erased

i recently reinstalled windows xp pro.. i have two HDD's and i unplugged my backup drive that had all my music, pic, vid files on it prior to the reinstallation.. i reinstalled windows, booted down, then hooked the second HDD back up and now all my files are gone.. windows is now on F drive for some reason and the my backup HDD was assigned a different drive letter.. i have changed the drive back to what it was orignally but there is still nothing.. i have tried to use a resort program to retrieve the deleted data but it doesnt see my old files.. help, this is 8 years worth of pics and music downloads..

Answer:second HDD erased

It may appear redundant, but try removing the drive again, restarting without it, shutting down again, reinstalling and restarting. This time however, do a quick check in the BIOS to make sure all is recognized correctly and boot back to windows. The drive letter will not matter, but the data should still be there (unless you took out the drive and rested it on a large speaker magnet) so it is worth trying to see if you can get it properly recognized. ((do not save anything to the drive unless all possibilities are exhausted)) Second, Check with the hard disk drive manufacturer's website under support to see if they can help you with recovery if above did not help.

Question: Erased Hdd

Hi hope someone can help. A friend of my got a new HDD and wanted me to ghost his old drive to the new drive, so I did, I left his house while it was ghosting and then he rang me and I told him how to change the boot order in the BIOS so it would boot off the new HDD. I assumed he did it right and just went over a few days later to wipe his old HDD using G Disk wipe/mbr and theN gdisk /cre /pri /for /q to repartiion to use as storage I then notice after I restarted that it wasn't booting when I went into the BIOS I noticed that the old HDD was still the first boot choose so it has been loading from the old one still. I assumed once again that it was alright since I ghost the drive over to the new one but when I went to boot from the new hdd only the windows screen comes up and it just stays there. I loaded up Reatogo CD and I am able to see the folders and stuff in the new HDD but not sure what is causing the problem. As I am still new to working on computers. Any ideas?? Would I be albe to just insert an Windows XP CD and try to recovery XP from it?? would that delete any files on the HDD?? Or it there a way to recovery the Old HDD to the orginal state??? Thanks for any help

Answer:Erased Hdd

You might be able to fix the new drive with the XP CD, either recovery, or, start an install and use the repair feature. But, if the ghost didn't go proper, then you'll have to do it again or install the OS and use the old drive as a slave and save the information. As far as recovering the old drive to the original state, well drives get old and wear out, so it may or may not work...Save the data to another source and retire it, if need be..And, as long as you don't delete data from the old drive, or format, then it should be recoverable...

I have recently made a dumb error of forgetting to test the free upgrade from win 7 to win 10. After a month, when I returned, my HP mini 5103 turned out to be almost frozen (you have to wait for minutes for a menu to unfold). I wanted to return to win 7 but the new win 10 had already erased it. Microsoft has washed hands because the win 7 was a preinstalled copy and suggested turning to the producer of the hardware - HP. Now, I can not find any place on the hp online service network that would offer any assistance in solving the problem, but perhaps I am only a novice failing to see what is in front of me, or is it? Is there anybody in the community who has already dealt with similar problems or heard of a solution to it. I would much appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance.

Answer:how to get ISO for win 7 back after win 10 erased it

HI. Here I leave the ISO of windows 7, you need a software like rufus, to mount it in a pendrive: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 English64-bit Download32-bit Download Links valid for 24 hours from time of creation.Links expire: 12/4/2016 11:21:49 AM UTC The recommended thing in your situation is to request the recovery discs of your equipment Regards.

? I do not work for HP, I volunteer.? To close the topic, check "accept as a solution" the correct answer or Thumb to say thank you.? I'm sorry but you do not answer questions privately.

Hello, I recently installed a 200GB western digital hard drive in my computer as my secondary hard drive and use it for storage. My primary hardrive is a 80 Gb Western Digital. Recently the 200 GB hard drive started to randomly deleting some of my PDF and MPG. Then yesterday it just deleted about 90 % of all my musick , video, and PDF files. The folders were there but when I tried to open it it would say invalid or file is corrupt. Does anyone know why tis happen and if it is possible to get those files back. And what can I do to make sure that this doesnt happen again. Is the hard drive now totally useless?

Answer:Harddrive erased itself?

You may have a bad harddrive. It obviously has bad sectors or missing clusters.

Some viruses Can do this.

my suggestion is to back up everything you think is important right now.

Then Have windows reformat it.

The device manager shows this drive, Pioneer DVD-WR DVR-K14L, the drivers are up to date. The laptop is a Vaio PCG-K37 with XP home edition. The discs are TDK CD-RW High Speed Data.

Answer:I erased my Driver

You may have to fresh install your laptop hard drive. I hope you have backups. I did the same damn thing on my laptop. I was no able to restore the sound drivers. Also I had not installed Norton Goback or XP Backup.

I reinstalled from the laptop CD, deleted the bloat-ware and reinstalled all my programs. I also installed norton go back.

laptops can be a pain to back up because you don't have a second internall hard drive to back up to. I only have a small 10GB external hard drive I use to transfer stuff from one computer to another.

I think a clean reinstall would be the best bet in your case. If you have any personal files you can move off the laptop, do so before reinstalling.

I let my 8 year old son play on my laptop and he went to and played a couple games. He logged off the computer and shut it down when he was done. I was nearby and did not notice anything unusual happening while he was on the computer. When I went to log back into my laptop everything was erased. My documents, pictures, desktop icons, music... everything is gone. I have no clue what happened and he swears he did not go into anything else or press any strange buttons. I have McAfee so I thought I was protected from any problems like this but I just am not sure what happened. I tried to complete a system restore with no luck. I have no clue what to do. I was hoping to get everything back but I don't know how to do that. My computer is also not working well so I am hoping to at least get my computer working again. Any suggests are appreciated. Question: Erased programs

Go to Solution.

Answer:Erased programs

randycocco, please read manual for One Key Recovery that is bundled with your laptop. It explains al you have encountered.Besides, NOVO recovery makes a warning on daaging data and so on. Ifyou read carefully what's on screen and not just push buttons it will not result such things...You may try using R-Studio, recuva software to recover your files, but I think it will have zero result - most of your files are overwritten by new OS.

Am using Maxell CD-RW's for backups in my business software (a restaurant POS system). Realized I had used about 20 of them, and it was about time I should start re-using them instead of going out to buy more.

-Running Windows XP Pro 5.1.
-Software automatically backs up/writes the data to CD.
-I used ?Windows/Wizard? to Erase files from CD. The CD's are blank. I was able to copy some word files to them, so ultimately I have proven they "are" re-usable. But when I re-use a CD during backup the message says:

The disc in the drive is not a writable CD or it is full.
Blah, blah.

I'm confused. And I don't want to spend money for re-writables, and not be able to re-use.

Thanks in advance!!

Answer:Can't re-write to my erased CD-RW

Did you try formatting?
If these files are important, I would switch to CD-R or HDD backup. RWs seem to have a lot of reliability problems

Question: Erased History...

So my son was on the computer today and later when I got on I realized all of my addresses that I visit are gone, I then realized that he deleted all the history....Now my question is WHY? So, is there any way I canget that back to find out what he was looking at?

Answer:Erased History...

Why did your son do it? You'd have to ask him.I don't know of an easy way to recover that info, but a look at the .dat files in that directory may be of some help. I'd post over in the Internet forums for more advice on this: may also be able to get some assistance in preventing/monitoring activity - but that starts with making your son responsible for what he does on the web. IMO monitoring software is a poor substitute for parental involvement. Place the computer in an open area where anyone walking by can see the screen. Give him his own limited user account on the system, and put a password on the other accounts so that he's forced to use his own account. Let him know what behavior is acceptable and what is not - and if he doesn't follow your rules, yank his internet privileges. But, don't "spy" on him. That'll teach him to distrust you. FWIW, what I did with my teenagers was to monitor traffic on my router on a periodic basis (I use a syslog capable router, static IP addresses, and a free program called WallWatcher to do this). When they were younger, I forbade downloading music and watching porn (and told them I'd be monitoring it). The consequences for P2P activity or a visit to a porn site were withdrawal of their internet privileges (which I did many times As they grew older, the rules changed. They've just gotten their internet privileges back after 6 months ... Read more

Question: ENTIRE HDD Erased!

Hello, I will make a big story now:

A few weeks ago I freshly installed Win 7 Professional with a student key.
I noticed that my program settings wouldn't be saved, so I made a thread here, someone told me to modify the registry and add something(program settings like Mozilla wouldn't find Flash Player, Photoshop settings and so on).

3-4 days ago those problems started again, but this time my Chrome disappeared, and then my entire project HDD, everything deleted clean.

I restored most of my projects and I made a full clean installation of everything. The first thing after install was to install KAspersky 2010. I scanned everything, everything clean, the only things left were my music, games and what I could save from my projects, everyhting clean, just some keylogger from Coffee Cup form builder that I have 2 years now in a zip that I don't open .

Today, I was afk for cca 2hrs and when I returned I found everything f****ed up.
My screen was rotated, resolution 800x600 (from 1920x1080), screensaver was running with some chicks, and out of thin air, Ihad installed Virtual GirlHD and Virtual GuyHD, and some application from softpedia: The Ultimate Virus.

Chome, Firefox, the entire Adobe Master Collection CS4 Suite is deleted, along with ALL the files from all my HDD's.

Here is the log Kaspersky spit out. Nothing suspicious, what am I missing. I will definitevly have to recover my project files but I need to know with what antivirus should I look for anything.

I followed your instructions and FINALLY got rid of all the pop ups I had. But while I was trying to get rid of them, maybe before I came here for help, I think I erased more than I should have.

When I start up my PC a black box pops up that says "C:\WINDOWS\System32\wcpvit.exe" at the top. It just sits there. When I hit the "X" in the upper right corner it goes away after asking me if I am sure I want to exit it. Then the PC goes through the rest of its booting up. I don't have any other problems until I try to make a back up to a CD, or try to copy a CD. I don't know if these two are related. When I try to write to a CD with CD Writer, I get the message "There was an error in the writing process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be usable."

I used this program "Large Drive Tools" to erase my HD. I did this because I was getting constant errors in Windows XP Pro so I wanted to do a fresh restart. After the erase, I tried using my XP Pro Boot Install CD. It will bring me to the screen where it asks to eiter install a new Windows XP, Repiar Windows XP. I chose to install a new copy and then it says it did not detect a HD. So I went back into the LDT program and tried making a partition and it still gave me the same problem. I tried using the HD manufactures diagnostic boot program but that also says it cannot detect the HD. I'm at a lost now, any ideas on what I need to do?

HD - Seagate 320GB SATA 1.5mb

However, the computer BIOS does detect the HD.

Answer:Erased HD, now won't detect it

Hi and welcome. You need to load the SATA drivers first. I think the install CD should ask if you need to do that.

We need more specifics of the sequence of events and about your system.

1) What operating system do you use? Windows XP, Linux or what?

2) What exactly was the sequence of events when the problem manifested? Were you booting up just prior to logging in? Was the computer on a log-in screen or what? At what point did you click on your profile?

3) How many users are on this computer? Is it a stand-alone computer?

4) What do you mean when you say "it has deleted ... " In other words, what is the 'it' you are referring to?

I have a HP computer with lightscribe installed. I have made many dvd movies on my computer using Memorex, TDK, etc. blank dvd's. Six months ago I purchased some HP Lightscribe DVD-R 16x dvd's. I made 12 movie dvd's on them. After I burn all my movies I always test them on my Sony dvd player hooked up to my tv. After I test the dvd, I always make another copy for my daughter. I have viewed these 12 dvd's at least 3 times over the last 6 months and so has my daughter. 4 weeks ago I went to watch one of these dvd's and my dvd player wouldn't play it. I tried it on another dvd player and it wouldn't work and then tried on my computer and still wouldn't work. I then tried watching the other 11 movies made on lightscribe dvd's and only 7 out of the 12 would work. I called my daughter and asked her to try hers and she later informed me that 5 of hers wouldn't work either. I tried calling HP and they had no idea why the information on the dvd was erased. They kept saying something must be wrong with my burner or I didn't burn them correctly. I told them if that were true, then why was I able to view them at least 3 times each. I then went to the computer store and they couldn't understand either. I called HP back and they wouldn't even let me return them because I don't have a receipt. Has anyone heard of information being erased like this before?

It's as if all the programs were deleted.
The names of some of the programs are still there,
but on mouse-over out slides an [empty] notification.

(but, almost all of the programs are safe & sound in the Programs file)

AND! Administrative Tools is gone!, excuse me: [empty]

Accessories is gone & can not be reinstalled.
everything that used to be there is [empty] as well.

with all that happened when I reformatted the hard-drive 2 weeks ago,
(down to 9GB memory while there should be 40GB!*)
*see previous post

I don't want to do that again! I'm afraid, I'll have NO memory at all!

thank you so much for your time and bother

Answer:Help, Please - some OS files erased & no OS cd

Here's an update:
Items 'pinned to start menu' work
Programs sent to Desktop (making a shortcut) work

Sent all programs I could to the desktop.
Ran the Clean-up Desktop Wizard which
put all the Shortcuts from the programs into a file on the desktop.

Opened up this file of Unused Desktop Shortcuts
Copied entire contents to the Program file Under each logon's Start Up Menu.

Now I have all these 'short cuts' on the start-up menus.

I'm beginning to 'drag & drop' each shortcut to it's program's place on the menu

(you know, the place where the program should be, but instead is [empty] )

....what a long way around when you don't know anything about registry -eh?

As for the deleted Accessories, and Administrators Tools,
I'm into my other XP computer finding just what the files are that are 'gone'
for example:
Event Viewer is: eventvwr.msc /s located:
c:\WINDOWS\System32\eventvwr.msc /s

so, I click on the Start Menu > Right Click All Programs > open
in this file folder Click file> new > shortcut
browse to eventvwr.msc /s

and viola! ON the Start Menu:
A shortcut to Event Viewer.
rename the shortcut to Event Viewer
drag and drop it to Administrators Tools Folder

almost as good as new-right?

sigh - time intensive.

Answer:HELP!!!! HP computer erased!

Well first of all, generally data is not "erased" off a hard drive. All that happens is the link to it is lost, but the data is still there. I'm no expert in the subject, but i believe that there is software that can be used to recover lost data. All that i can advise you to do is to not mess with your computer until you are able to run recovery software. Just turn it off, and search for stuff on a different computer. that way you dont write new data over your lost data.

Question: Bookmarks erased?

I started up Firefox today, and all my bookmarks were erased. :( What happened?

Answer:Bookmarks erased?

If you have version 1.5 of Firefox, then there is a folder called bookmarkbackups (in your profile directory) that contain revisions of your bookmarks. Just import them back into your browser.

In XP, you can find it here...

C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile name>\

I have erased both the hard drive and the onboard ssd on my aspire S3 391 also i have no recovery software as I have lost it I know that I have been silly erasing both storage devices and losing the Backup.I decided to reinstall windows 8.1 from an iso copy and then tried to add intel rapid start technology but it won't let me install it and just comes up with an error message, I think this must be to do with the ssd as it had 2 partitions on it when i erased it.I really want to get my laptop back to how it was before i started messing about with it but as i don't have a Backup this seems impossible.I would be obliged if someone could advise me of how I might be able to fix these problems

Ok, so I'm a fool. I was formating a USB drive to make it bootable for a live linux distro...and not paying attention I erased the MBR for my C: drive and not the USB drive.

Now, I'm afraid to reboot my laptop, becuase it probably won't boot back into windows now.

Is there anything I can do before I reboot/shutdown to fix my mistake. If not, I also have the XP install disc if that can somehow get me back in (without doing a complete re-install of XP).

Any ideas before I reboot???

Incase it helps...The program I was using when I made the mistake was a Slax boot installer that alows you to make a flash drive bootable like a CD.

I'm not sure what will happen when I reboot. :-(

Answer:Solved: I just erased my MBR. Now what?

Take a look here:
This is the only way I know to replace the MBR unless you have used a program that has copied it previously, which I doubt since you didn't mention it. Maybe someone else has an idea or knows another way that doesn't make you have to restart that laptop.

I have apparently erased everything that was on an important flash drive. I am computer and technology illiterate really. I received a flash drive but when i tried to play the content windows 10 said it could not read it. So i looked on youtube for a fix. I tried one method where you had to go to each of your external ports i guess is the best way i can explain it. You updated each port and this was suppose to help, but it didn't so the next step was to delete each individual port and the tutorial said when you re-inserted things in your port the usb port would reload itself i guess. This did not work so i went to another tutorial where i was instructed to go into "command and prompt" as the administator. We found all the disks on the computer: however, the tutorial only had 2 things on their computer and when i commanded it to find disk there were like 7. So i followed the instructions which said we had to delete the disk and then "clean" another disk. I realize this is probably not making sense since i do not know computers. I deleted the flashdrive and cleaned what i thought was the right disk. After this the computer was suppose to go back to the settings screen where all your drives are and your flashdrive was suppose to be there and i was suppose to be able to read it now. Obviously that screen never came up and when i went back to the settings the drive does not even show up, it can't be found. It was drive F and apparently i have deleted ... Read more

Question: Bookmarks erased

When I turned on my PC firefox's settings were reset to default and all my bookmarks were gone. Why?

Then I typed my problem into google and was directed to a post here which told me I should convert the backup version of the file into an html. Before I did that I noticed two versions of bookmark.html files -- bookmark.html and bookmark-1.html. Opening bookmark-1 revealed my old bookmarks. So I switched the names around and sent the other version to my recyle bin hoping that would work. No dice.

Then I noticed that the file in the recycle bin was much larger than the present bookmark file. I restored it and it shrunk back to the same size as the new version of the bookmark file.

The backup, when switched to an html ending turned out to be the new bookmark file.

All very confusing.

So now I have three version of my new bookmarks (1 entry) and can't find the bookmarks I'd been accumulating for almost a year! What happened and is there any chance of me finding my old bookmarks?

I was trying to format my hard drive and i screwed up and did it wrong. I have all my files and information saved so i am good there. What I think I did wrong was I erased all partitions on my hard drive and now doesn't matter what I do, right after my first load screen it comes up with a black screen saying"Error loading operating system. Ive tried loading from my windows xp disk and i keep getting the same thing. I have a Dell Inspiron 600m and its about 4 years old. If anyone could help I would be greatful.

Answer:Erased All Partitions of harddrive

Hi .Probably the best thing to do is to read the following guidance from Dell:;l=en&s=genFrom what I see, you should have had a restore partition. If you eliminated that, I have no idea whether your "install CD" will work or not. The guidance provided by Dell appears to be as much as I myself can personally do.Louis

Curious. I just did a 'properties' check under COMPUTER - 'devices with removable storage' on a CD which had a cdr-w in it that I was going to erase. I got the 700+meg total and xx used msg. When I clicked on the Win7 'erase disc' option when done I again selected 'properties'. This time it stated 0 available and 0 used. NOW, when I use the erase function from a third party program and then check the properties it once again shows 700+ meg available 0 used. WHY does the internal WIN7 erase cause the 0 & 0 to show up and NOT the correct values as the third party does? I am just curious and IF my system is wrong then how do I correct it? THANKS...

Answer:Odd info on erased disc..

Which is a reason why I don't recommend Windows built in burning utilities.
There may not be anything wrong, and the disk may burn just fine.
Can't tell you more than that.

my computer was giving me some problems. i went to device manager to see which devices were conflicting. the only things that had those yellow exclamations were all under the networking section. funny this it wasn't just one entry tho, there were a number of them. but they all had "hotspot" in them, which is the name of a program i use to block my IP. so i deleted them all. no problem so far. I happened to shut down my computer and opened it up. The net wasnt working after that. When i called up tech support they told me its a driver issue. I'm thinking my erasing those hotspot entries has something to do w/ this, though i dont know why.

So now how do I fix this? In device manager out of the entries left I did see Realtek RTL8139/810x. I went to the Realtek website.

I saw a link there for the 8139 driver I apparently need. But cant really figure what to do from there. I went to what looked like the right place but ended up at what seemed to be a deadend:

Please help!

Title pretty much says it all...
How to recover?
Synology DS215j mounted with 2 x 4TB WD Red
So I tried doing a fabric reinstall from inside the DSM. Apparently it was a DELETE ALL option and now i´ve gotten 2 empty disks. Anyway to get the data back that i´ve just deleted? Its a DS215j, mounted with 2 x 4TB WD Red. Just hooked one of them to a windows rig, and saw it had a 100% free space, so nothing on them.. Was running, as far as I remember, DSM 5.2 while this happen.
As i´ve never tried things like this before, a how to, step by step giude, would be very much apriciated. :D

Answer:Erased my entire NAS, how to recover?

NAS systems are Linux based and don't use Windows file format. Try attaching one to Linux based machine and then running a File(Linux) recovery software.Check your NAS manual or call technical support for advice.
Since you have 2 drives it makes the situation more complex. If you have a good, recent backup, you can restore the files from that. And if you don't have a good backup, the NAS manual and tech support don't help. If data is really important you can use data recovery services like Stellar to recover data.
ALl the best!!
and your data is worth spending a lot of money, you can use a data recovery service like Ontrack or DriveSavers. Just make sure they know what type of NAS system contained these drives and whether they were part of a RAID.
