I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Intel Skylake-supporting Z170 motherboards coming in August

It better come with Thunderbolt 3 included, if they want to attract PC enthusiasts.

On a related subject, this new Thunderbolt 3 isn't as good as we hoped...

Thunderbolt 3 also includes an update to the DisplayPort side of matters, though likely not what everyone has been expecting. With the increase in bandwidth, Thunderbolt 3 is able to carry twice as much video data as before. However Intel is not implementing the latest version of DisplayPort ? DisplayPort 1.3 ? in to the Thunderbolt 3 standard. Instead they are doubling up on DisplayPort 1.2, expanding the number of equivalent DisplayPort lanes carried from 4 to 8, essentially allowing one Thunderbolt 3 cable to carry 2 full DisplayPort 1.2 connections. The end result is that Thunderbolt 3 will not be able to drive the kind of next-generation displays DisplayPort 1.3 is geared towards ? things like 8K displays and 5K single-tile displays ? but it will be able to drive anything 1 or 2 DisplayPort 1.2 connections can drive today, including multiple [email protected] monitors or 5K multi-tile displays.Click to expand...

source: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9331/intel-announces-thunderbolt-3

So, basically, they had all the opportunity to have DisplayPort 1.3 included, but decided not to. That is just wrong... It won't even support a single-tile 5K screen. And if so, then what good is it, really?

I just read in a different posting that there are known  incompatibility issues with Intel's Skylake motherboards and early-manufactured Hynix memory chips.  These memory chips would have been assembled into modules by other companies who slap their name on the memory.  (I had never even heard of Hynix as a memory manufacturer before, but I just read in Wikipedia that they are the second largest manufacturer of memory in the world after Samsung.)  I have been having all sorts of memory problems using Corsair ValueSelect DDR4 260-Pin SODIMM 2133 (PC4 1700) Memory in my P50 and I am wondering whether anyone else is having similar problems?  I haven't yet determined whether the Corsair memory is based upon the early Hynix modules but this would explain everything.

P50, Intel Xeon E3-1505M v5, 4K, NVidia Quadro M2000M 4GB, Dual Samsung 950 PRO 512GB NVMe drives non-RAID, 32 GB Crucial Technology DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000). Windows 10 Home.

I'm planning to build a new system and still am not sure before committing to buy.
My thread is here: New ~$1,500 gaming/everyday build: Intel Skylake forcing me go to AMD?

But in here I need a specific help regarding the main technical advantages of the rich featured Z170 motherboards vs the H170.
From what I understand the H170 motherboards feature less PCIe ports and I love it because I will only use one GPU, the H170 supports -2 USB3 ports (no problem), no overclock is possible, they are cheaper, they require a 2133 memory ram.
So is memory speed only related to overclocking or something else?

Do you guys know any other limitation that I could miss later?

Answer:Intel Z170 vs. Z97 chipset: What is the difference?

One of the things I look forward to doing is to start using M.2 SSDs on desktop builds, especially for SFF builds. Of course as of this post the only motherboard I know of that has included one is ASRock's X99 ITX board (which was reviewed here), though both EVGA and ASRock have put out a couple X99 mATX boards too. With my first impressions via the review here and other places, I'm hesitant to go to skylake for my next build, but at the same time I hope that with Skylake more (affordable) boards will come equipped is M.2.

Microsoft has accidentally revealed the release date for its upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update through the Microsoft News Center, before swiftly removing the unfinished press release from view.

According to the post's title, the Anniversary Update will be available on August 2, just a few days after the one-year anniversary of Windows 10's launch. The rest of the announcement was missing, but considering the alleged date was published directly through Microsoft's in-house news service, it's probably pretty accurate.

Considering the Anniversary Update will most likely be available in a little over a month's time, Microsoft will sign off on the final version in the next few weeks. One of the candidates could be the latest Insider Preview release, build 14376, which became available today for PCs and phones packing mostly bug fixes and minor improvements.

The biggest new features coming to the Anniversary Update include a fully-fledged Ubuntu Bash shell for developers; revamped stylus integration; updates to Cortana, including the ability to view notifications from your phone; and support for extensions in Microsoft Edge.

Answer:Anniversary Update coming August 2

That ubuntu bash feature was announced on some sites on April 1st, later it was confirmed.Looking forward to it.

Will there be a Skylake for the 3rd Gen Model before the year end.  Also how much battery improvement will there be with the new processor?  The X1 needs serious battery improvement.  It should at least hold 10 hours of nonstop use (not idle).  Mac Air does a fantastic job with their battery and the capacity of recharge cycles.

Answer:New computer with Intel Skylake processor

Hi, Brad: You can install W7, 8.1, and W10 as long as there is driver support for the notebook you plan to buy. The problem with the Skylake chipset is there is no native USB2 support, and there is no USB3 support in the windows 7 installation media.  So the media errors out stating a required CD/DVD driver is missing (which is the only error it knows how to report when that happens). If you plan on running W7, what you have to do is to run this tool which puts the USB3 drivers into the W7 USB installation media.  There is a readme file on the link with instructions for using the tool or converting a W7 installation DVD into a W7 installation flash drive. The tool has to be run on a PC with W8.1 or W10. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility There are many forum posts regarding this issue and the USB creator tool is the solution.  Here's two for example. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Problem-installing-Win7-on-ProBook-440-G3-HDD-... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Problem-installing-Win7-Pro-on-P...

Hello everyone,
I am looking forward to the new technologies and innovations coming out later this year and next that will fully take advantage of the Windows 10 OS ecosystem. I have a few questions and wish list in regards to what would be best for my next purchase.CPUs: AMD zen vs Intel Skylake. What do you think would be better to purchase in regards to CPUs? I don't know too much about CPU, but I do have a basic grasp in understanding. AMD has something called HUMA: do Intel CPUs have that? AMD also has something called APUs which puts the CPU and GPU in the same core without the PCI bridge to avoid latency. Direct X 12 is also something that these new CPUs are going to be optimized for which will be great for gaming, watching HD movies, multi tasking etc. Will these chips be powerful, compact, and energy efficient to but fit into a small tablet?OLED screens: Super AMOLED and OLED are going to be used in rumored Cityman and Talkman windows phones. However can that also be used for Windows Tablet screens 7inches and higher? I am betting on OLED being the future, but I don't now if there is anything else like QED display or others which are just as thin as oled, black contrast ratios of oled, and increased range of chroma. OLED is too expensive to manufacture because of low yields.Stylus Pen: Made a thread about this, but very few OEMS are manufacturing laptops/tablets with touch screen that utilize the fine tip stylus pen like the Samsung galaxy note and surface pro seri... Hello,
Does anyone know why the new Skylake "Speed Shift" (aka Hardware P-state control) would appear disabled on my Windows 10, and how to enable it?
This is a Core i5-6500 CPU on ASUS H170-Pro mobo and incidentally when I boot into Linux (latest Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with kernel version 4.4.x) the "dmesg" output appears to show "HWP enabled".
I do have the latest Win10 release version (10586 and 1511) which should have this feature available.
See the screenshot of HWInfo64 summary showing "SST" text in red colour (also highlighted in a red circle by me) meaning it's supported/available but disabled:
My mobo BIOS (latest version) does not have "Speed Shift" option anywhere just the older "Speed Step" mentioned which I've set to "Auto" - but again - this appears to be working/enabled on Linux.
Thanks!

Answer:Intel Speed Shift not enabled on my Skylake+Win10 PC

Windows 10 v1511 does not support Hardware P-States for desktop Skylake CPUs. That's why HWInfo is showing you HWP as being disabled.
Speed Shift is currently only supported for mobile Skylake CPUs on Windows 10.

Hi: Below is the link to the product specs page for your notebook. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04168240 Your notebook does not come with an Intel Skylake chipset (that would have an Intel 6th generation core processor). Your notebook only has the onboard Intel 4400 HD graphics, so the nvidia graphics driver on your notebook's support page is not applicable to your model. HP puts all of the available drivers on every model 14-n### support page.  Some models do have the Intel/Nvidia switchable graphics.

Got tired of waiting and bought 4690k months ago. Giving todays exchange rate, paid exactly $230+VAT. Probably saved some on DDR3 vs DDR4, maybe s1151 MOBOs will be also more expensive on release, while You can buy s1150 on sales and specials. What I don't get is the sentence: 'If so, what CPU are you upgrading from or are you building an entirely new PC from scratch?'? It's not like You can upgrade just Skylake, have to basically build a new PC: CPU, MOBO, RAM. If You play building your PC, rest is usually left over from previous builds.

Hi All,

I would like to know more about Windows 7 support for the Intel Kaby lake/Skylake CPUs. What will happen when I deploy windows 7 OS onto a new laptop/desktop with that CPU?

My understanding is that one of the follow two scenarios will occur.
1)Windows updates will be downloaded and installed as per normal but they won't be tested for that platform/OS combination. So MS won't provide any support if the behavior of some software changes.
2)There might be some logic built into the updates so that when it detects windows 7 with kaby/skylake, the updates will simply not be installed.

Also, to add to the above - Will deploying the patches via SCCM/WSUS influence the above behavior?

I have already conducted some research, but couldn't get to the answer.

Regards,
Gerhard

Hi Community,
My XPS 13 9350 (4k touchscreen) continues to have issues with the screen flickering.  The screen flickering occurs in one of two ways.
Temporary Flickering.  Screen flickers off and on quickly, twice every second.  Turning the computer to sleep and back on again can fix this issue.
Permanent flickering.  Screen flickers off and on quickly, twice every second.  When the screen turns black a weird horizontal bar with different colors displays across the middle of the screen.  After a few seconds the screen stabilizes but then flashes again and repeats the pattern.  Turning the computer the sleep and back on doesn't normally resolve the issue.  I have to turn off the computer completely wait 5 to 10 minutes before turning it back on.  This occurs when I using the laptop on my lap or during my 1 hour bus commute to college.

I tried updating the video card drivers.  Currently it's 20.19.15.4444 (Intel 520)
BIOS:  1.3.3
Updated all drivers via the "Dell Update" software client.
Disable Panel Self Refresh: Via Intel HD control panel
Changed resolutions:  1080p
Changed Refresh rate: 60p Hz -> 48 Hz
Attached an external monitor via dell TB15.  Mix results, the display shows other issues which I believe are most due to the poor TB15 dock than the XPS itself.
Any ideas?

Enjoy your now functional XPS 8900 that used to freeze multiple times a day.

Below is what it was initially doing before I found a fix
So I recently got xps 8900, immediately installed a SSD drive and upgraded the ram from 8GB to 16GB.
I also used the old logitech solar keyboard and logitech wireless mouse from the old computer(they use a little usb receiver) and only been using these wireless devices for today and it's frozen twice. Couldn't even plug in a usb mouse or keyboard and have the computer respond.

For the first two days while doing the initial ssd install and windows 10 updates this computer stayed on for two straight days using the included wired mouse/keyboard. No issues with computer freezing or booting up.
But when I gave this computer as a Christmas gift then installed the old wireless logitech keyboard and mouse the computer has frozen twice in a span of 8 hours.
So I'm not sure if it's a USB issue or if the wifi card is causing problems because I've seen a few threads mention to remove this card or disable a wifi driver as they've had BSOD or other issues.
Computer looks great and seems to run perfectly, until these last two freezing issues. I plan on bu... Read more

Hi,
I have an Intel D930 3.0Ghz processor and Intel D945 Motherboard with 3gb ddr2 ram.but recently, my motherbaord got an external damage and thus not working anymore.I contacted intel and they told that such motherboards and processors are not available in market anymore. So, now i need a motherboard which supports my processor and is available in the market for purchase. It should have PCI slots. Please suggest me a compatible motherboard as soon as possible.

Regards,

Answer:Motherboard Supporting Intel D930 processor

All of these boards will support the Pentium D930. The first two will also support some Core 2 Duo and Core Quad processors if you want to upgrade later. 3 of the boards are Micro ATX, and 1 is ATX. The G965WHMKR and G965OTMKR are better boards than are the D945GCPE or the D945GCNL.

My intel 3.2 Prescott Just got overheated and died on me after using it for quite a few years.. so now I'm looking for a cheap solution to get my computer running using all the same parts. I'm considering buying a 3.4 GHZ Pentium 4 Processor and possibly a new motherboard but keeping all pci cards and graphics card as well as the ram.

I'm looking for a motherboard that supports:

Intel 3.4 Ghz Hyper Threading FSB 800
DDR PC 3200 (supporting 4GB of ram)
Dual-Channel DDR400 Memory
5 PCI slots
and an AGP slot (8x)

The only thing I've found that looks decent is the asus P4P800-E Deluxe Edition, which seems a bit pricey considering how old it is and how not that fast it is compared to the newer mobos. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Hello,
Does anyone know when Dell will put out the BIOS FIX for this machine? They already did for the 7050 and the 7440aio and similar models back in June/First Week but not the 7040s running 6th gen same processors?
According to the news, for 6th gen it should already be available from the oems, and for now, disable the hyper-threading in the bios but that makes it WORSE running at 0.87 etc. Needs updated for the 7040s.
Thanks!

Answer:Dell OptiPlex 7040 (Skylake - Intel Bug) Hyper-Threading BIOS FIX?

The June BIOS updates for the 7050 and 7440AIO make no specific mention of the H-T issue. So do you know that H-T was already fixed for those models?
And if you read the article at ExtremeTech:
"For the record, while ExtremeTech believes Intel that these errata exist, we are not aware of any software programs affected by them and have not observed any issues with our Skylake or Kaby Lake testbeds. Our Core i7-7700K and Core i7-6700K both performed flawlessly when tested in our benchmark suites over the past six months."

I have the custom certificate installed, but still the signed drivers for Windows 7 nor the BETA release for Windows 8 works. I get the "This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing the software.". I have the modified igdlh64.dll in the 'Graphics' dir.

The drivers through windows update have the annoying auto-adjust brightness feature on and I am unable to find the control panel for the Intel driver. Also, Windows 8 constantly runs on the AMD driver which draws too much power and drains the battery out much faster.

What are my options?

Answer:Intel 3000 HD 64-bit Windows 8 BETA driver not supporting my laptop.

Hey, very similar problem here with a new Thinkpad W530.

- The beta driver from Intel are similar to Windows update one.
- The beta drivers from Lenovo say they don't support my laptop but the real problem seems to be they're not built right (I open some txt files in the directory and they say things like "this should be replaced by correct build number" and stuff like this)
- The Windows update drivers keep coming no matter what I do. Rollback and delete driver (and files) options in Device Manager only work temporarily and soon I get the windows update ones and the VERY annoying auto-brightness comes back, even though it's disabled in Windows Power options, and even when disabling all power saving features in Intel settings.

Anyone had the problem earlier and managed to solve it?

It has terrible LAG from 2-3m distance on IDLE, even worst if some work is done on it. (once I was installing something big on my SSD and the mouse doesnt even move a bit, totally freeze out there till the end of installation)
Windows 10 is clean install from USB, with just necesary drivers from Intel site.
Tried also with my Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830, Logitech G700s Mouse + 2x Logitech F710 Wireless Gamepads same issue. Gamepads doesnt work at all from distance 2m+ , from close range lot of lags.
Already tried install latest BIOS + drivers, uninstall Realtek Soundcard (as mentioned in other sites) none of them worked.
All my peripherals work flawlessly on front Case USB 3.0 header under Windows 7 Pro SP1 (ASUS Maximus IV GENE Z + Silverstone TJ08-E)
So Im sure it has something to do with crappy Windows 10 + USB 3.0 on Intels NUC
Should I contact Intel or perhaps Microsoft to deal with my issue?

Question: Intel Motherboards

I am building a PC. I have run into one problem.

I have connected everything to the motherboard. When I go to power up to install windows, I run into one problem.

There are two power cables for the motherboard. One is your standard P1 cable (long white cable), and the smaller 12V P1 cable (looks identical but is much smaller).

When I power up the PC, WITH the smaller power cable connected, the power shuts off five seconds after (the computer does not boot), but I do have power to the CD Rom drives.

When I power up the PC, WITHOUT the smaller power cable connected, the power stays on, but I have no power to the CD Rom drives.

PLEASE help me out!!! Thanx

Answer:Motherboards for the new intel i7

Go with the i7 if you can afford it. The cost for the CPU itself is not much, but you have to take into account that the mainboards are expensive and so is DDR3.

There arent many boards for the i7 yet, probably the most popular is Asus P6T. Costs around $300 and should be a great board.

Question: Intel motherboards

I am still gathering a list of parts for a new computer that I will build or have built. Now, I am up to the motherboard.

The >Intel BOXD975XBXLKR Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard" looks like it would be good for what I want and I understand that after April 16, 2006, new releases of this motherboard will support Conroe when it comes out.

Does anyone know how to tell which motherboards would be built after April 16, 2006? Do they put the build number on the box or do the serial numbers indicate this?

Thanks

there will probably be a BIOS update to flash any older models to support Conroe as well.

Hi all,
This is my first attempt at putting together a system so please excuse my ignorance. I have been thinking of using an Asus P4T motherboard and an INTEL® PENTIUM® IV PGA478 CPU at 1.5 G. These will cost me approx. $350 US

Today I stopped by my computer store to pick up my new case and saw a bundle consisting of an Intel P4 PGA423 D850GBC mobo with an Intel P4 PGA423 1.5 ghz for $270.00.

In your opinion, which is the best combination to get? I don't want to cheap out for the sake of cheaping out, but I do want to get as much bang for my buck as possible.

Any expert opinions would be appreciated.
Thx in advance

Gary

PS Some folks are also telling me to get a
1.4ghz Athlon and DDR motherboard (cheaper and faster than a P4 at 1.5ghz.)

Answer:Asus vs. Intel Motherboards, etc.??

Here is a comparitive review of all the major players including the two you mentioned. Seems an abit was first, followed by the asus

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.html?i=1534

As far as the athlon sys, they work well but are a little more touchy to get running right. Being your first build you may want to stick with intel this time. Just my opinion, others I am sure will choose the other way.

If you go amd make sure you get amd certified components to eliminate some of the headaches.

Hey Hey Peeps,

I am starting to think about building another rig, but i want to use ATI Graphics Cards (The new 5970 series) and possibly X-Fire.

I know it might seem a weird question but my current setup is Nvidia with the 790i Ultra Chipset so that is all i really know, and as ATI seem to be getting a bit better i thought it was about time i started using theirs.

If anyone could point me in the right direction would be so much helpful and most appreciated. I would prefer Asus, but if there are any other choices then i am keeping an open mind and will try.

A bit of other info, if helpful at all.

Needs to be a socket 775 and DDR3.
This will be used for gaming, OC-ing, browsing and word processing
Budget would probably be in the region of ?200 - ?400
This will be all going in a Coolermaster HAF932 (ATI Edition)

Not sure if i am missing anything.

Thanks a bunch in advance

Answer:ATI and Intel Compatible Motherboards

If your sticking with Socket 775, your choices will be a bit limited with DDR3 capability.

For socket 775/ DDR3/ and crossfire support, you best option will likely be a X48 or X38 Chipset.

Sadly, your choices are going to be rather limited for DDr3 & Socket 775.

Maybe something Like:

ASUS
Newegg.com - ASUS P5E3 PRO LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

DFI
Newegg.com - DFI LANPARTY LT X48-T3RS LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

DFI are excellent boards. but a word of warning. If you plan on OCing, they are not at all beginer friendly.
They do however, have excellent bios, with a incredible amount of options. So unless you want to get really intimate with the bios, DFI may not be a great choice.
It really comes down to how much experience you have, or how much you want to learn all the ins and outs.

With socket 775, it might possibly be a better route to stay with DDR2, (IF you already have good DDR2 memory) simply due to the limited choices of DDR3/775 boards.

is the Abit IS7 good? or the IC7?

Answer:good intel motherboards

The higher the number the better the chipset. What I would suggest, though, is if you're upgrading your mobo, upgrade your CPU too and go with AMD. They will be much faster for your gaming. PCI-Express would be a good route also.

As the title says, why the heck are DDR2 sticks for Intel motherboards so expensive? I mean, you could find a 2GB stick for about $8 but if you search for a 4GB stick the price spikes up to $50 or more. I'm asking this question because I'm looking to revive this old HP a6000 to use as my daily driver because my main computer is broken but if I want to revive it I would need 8GB or at least 6GB of RAM to do work on, because I'm a very heavy multitasker, but I can't due to the price.

Also one other thing I've noticed is that there are "AMD" sticks and "Intel" sticks and the price difference is huge between those two. I always thought RAM would compatible with any motherboard as long as it is the right DDR and the right form factor. Why is that?

I used to have an Intel D845PEBT2 mobo, which was a decent board. I liked it.
However, it didn't have the option to set your FSB etc., if you wanted to o/c your CPU.

Now, my question is, are there any newer Intel (true Intel, not Intel chipset based boards from Asus, ect) which have the option to o/c your CPU?

If so, which boards exactly?

I'm asking, as I want to upgrade to something like P4 3,2GHz.

Please don't recommend other brands. I want Intel. (and if I can't get that, I'll pick MSI)

Answer:Is it possible to overclock with the latest Intel motherboards?

Intel has never been OverClocking friendly even though the new P4's are good overclockers - on other boards of course.

I did recently hear something about Intel becoming more open to overclocking, though.

I've never been a fan of Intel Boards. I'll take an ASUS or MSI board any day over an Intel.

Help.

My daughters Sony P4 3ghz HT Vaio desktop has always had problems - mainly motherboard related but recently one of her two screens starting intermittently blanking out for a second or so. As it is now out of warranty I decided to try and salvage the good bits and put together a box that could last her for the next year or so.

So I took the following existing bits out of the Sony Vaio

- Pentium 4 cpu 3ghz hyper threading
- 1.5 gb of RAM (2 x Kingmax 512mb DDR-400 and 2xProMOS 256mb DDR-400)
- Sapphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis 256gb vid card
- Hard drives and DVD drives
- Dell 1905 lcd screens

And added them to the following new components

- Antec Sonata II case (with Antec 450 p/s)
- Intel D965PERL mobo - and when that didn't work (see below)
- ASUS P4P800-E DELUXE Socket 478 mobo
- new 200gb hard drive

Problem is that on both the Intel and the ASUS mobo, the PC powers up but nothing happens - the screen remains blank, no sound is emitted (e.g. no beeps under POST) and nothing happens. There is a momentary lighting of the lights on the keyboard (connected by PS2 or whatever that old non-USB connector is called) and the DVD drive will ight up and open/close but no boot screen etc.

I did a quick search here and tried the following - none made any difference

- swapped out the cpu for another (older) 478 P4 I have in another Vaio
- tried a total of 4 different vid cards (and verified that 2 were working on other PC's)

I am trying to troubleshoot a hardware problem. I have a computer which contains (according to the printing on the board) an Intel D845EPI/D845GVSR) Motherboard.

When you press the power button you hear three long beeps, each a second long, and seperated by a second of silence.

There is no video on the monitor.

Here are the things I've tried:

-Removed the IDE cables and powered up. No difference
-Disconnected power and removed the CMOS battery. Replaced battery after about 3 minutes, powered back up. No difference.
-Moved the BIOS reset jumper to it's opposite position, powered up, then down, moved it back, powered up, no difference (behaved the same in both positions).
-Replaced the RAM with a different, known working stick of RAM. No difference.
-Disconnected the mouse and keyboard. No difference.
-Removed all expansion cards (there was only one; a PCI dialup modem). No difference.

So at this point all I have to go off of are beep codes. Anyone know what three long beeps mean?

Intel's Centrino 2 processors (of the Montevina platform) will start appearing in laptops at the end of Q2 but this will be just the first wave of releases which is set to continue in Q3 when a quad-core mobile processor will be introduced.

The first mobile quad-core part will be part of the Core 2 Extreme line-up and will be named QX9300. Likely to be released in September, the QX9300 will not kill off the X9100 dual-core as it will have a higher price tag - $1,038. Featuring a TDP of 45W, the 45nm-built QX9300 has four cores clocked at 2.53 GHz and 12 MB of L2 cache

So i was playing PUBG and out of nowhere my pc freezes and my keyboard and mouse LEDS shut off but my screen is still on and showing PUBG (frozen) so i knew it was the ram and removed one stick and my pc worked again, but then when i placed the other stick the DRAM_LED flashed red and my pc didnt boot, so i removed the stick and only used one to update my bios, still no luck, also tried to go to an old version and also removed my CMOS battery and put it back and still didnt work, i know for a fact that it isnt the ram that is faulty because i tried both (individually) and they worked, also dont think it is my motherboard because i got it a month ago and all of the ram slots work as long as i only use one stick, i also tried placing the other ram stick while windows was booting and CPU-Z detected 8GB but my bios and windows didnt. also tried with XMP and without still no luck. any help please?

Use 1 ram stick = works
check if ram slots works = yes they work
Update bios & go back to and old version = no luck Remove CMOS = did but no luck
Try XMP and no XMP = no luck
Press memok with both ramsticks = nothing happens and pc doesnt boot
Use memtest86 = did and no issues with ram

I have ASUS Z97-A motherboard and Samsung 850 PRO SSD, but due to many extensions in my browser Opera with build in Opera VPN my browsing speed is not enough. This board has M.2 socket and i wanted to buy Samsung 960PRO M.2 SSD but i saw Z97 chipset does not support full speed of the SSD because support only x2 PCI-E lines of maximum x4 lines. May i buy some PCI-E or M.2 adapter to use full speed. Also if i go to Z170 chipset which support full x4 lines which one SSD to is fastest M.2 or Intel 750 Series and in which slot to put the Intel, because first PCI-E slot is busy with graphic card and PCI slot before him is not accesable, because of too big CPU cooler.
Thanks.

Just got a new ASUS Sabertooth Z170.
When I connect everything and switch the power on it goes into standby but when I press the case power on switch nothing happens.
There is a front panel connector on the board that has a reset connector with Gnd/#/+3. Can anyone tell me if all of these pins are used. The reason I ask this is that my case connector only has a 2 pin plug on it. If all 3 are needed is there a work round I can do. ie short 2 pins etc

If it helps the pins outs are on page 1-32 of the manual.

Hi, you will only have issues if you try to install Win7 off a USB drive.
Win7 install drivers are Ehci and the later M/B's require Xhci drivers.
You can inject Xhci drivers into your install USB or just install from Optical drive.

Am perplexed on this Saturday night, and looking for expert opinions. I have a single computer (Win 7) that I am going to be upgrading to a new motherboard, an Asus Z170. This move is prompted by both USB 3 support and Windows 10, which is inevitable. Have already upgraded the graphics card (970) and Blue Ray player.

Currently running a SSD with Windows 7, but of course Windows 7 does not have USB 3 support. My thought was to transfer my hard drives, power supply, DVD player, and graphics card to a Z170 machine. This may or may not be possible by mere mortals, as Windows 7 does not support USB 3. Have heard of the Paragon Adaptive Restore program to help delete old drivers and get new ones installed, but I don't believe this would work with an upgrade to a motherboard with USB 3 support. Certainly not anticipated in 2010.

So, my choices (I think) are to upgrade to a new Z170 motherboard using Windows 7, perhaps uploading some sort of USB 3 support first, and then upgrading to Windows 10. While this could save me $$ from a Windows 10 license, it is not clear to me how to add USB 3 support to Windows 7. The motherboard CD? I don't think Windows 7 could find this on its own. For that matter, it appears my USB keyboard / mouse won't work until I get the USB 3 drivers. Web searches this evening got me even more confused.

Alternatively, I could upgrade to Windows 10 on my computer as is, and then see if I get charged for a new OS when I change to the new motherboard. Would be wi... Read more

I've been thinking about the Z107 board also. But I would not carry over a power supply, for the cost of a new one is cheaper than the risk of the old one failing.

Hi. Yesterday I received my new PC with a Z170-E Mother board and on description it says it has.

1x USB3.1
6x USB3.0
6x USB2.0

How ever I only see 2x 3.0 on the back and 2X 3.0 on top of the case. I also have 2x USB2.0
on the rear.

All I can see is 4X 3.0USB and 2 of those are on the case it self and 2X 2.0USB. Also I do have a x1 usb 3.1

Am I reading the description wrong or looking in a wrong place or are the others hidden?.?. Shouldn't I have 6 of each 2.0 and 3.0?.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Asus Z170-E MOBO X6 usb?.

You probably have empty USB headers on the motherboard. To use those additional USB ports, you have to plug a cable into the header, which usually attaches to a pair of USB ports on a small adapter that plugs into the backplane at the rear of the motherboard, to expose those ports where you'd ordinarily access video from a graphics card, network media from a NIC, and so forth. You should have gotten one or two such cable/device items with the motherboard accessories. If not, you can buy them online: here's an item that shows what both ends of the device look like (but may not be exactly what you want): Amazon.com: uxcell® USB 3.0 A Type Female to Female 20 Pin Box Header Slot Adapter: Computers Accessories.

Am having an issue that is either a new Bios related problem, or a Windows 10 downloading related issue.

A few months ago I replaced my MB with a new Asus Z170 and Skylake processor. After getting all the drivers loaded, the system performed very well. Windows 7 is installed, and have consistently updated the PC. A week ago I found that the Asus Z170 Deluxe bios has had two recent updates for "stability". I went ahead and updated the Bios to the latest one. Unexpected hangups during the bios update, at least unexpected to me, but eventually it got installed.

I do have Windows 10 upgrade notice turned off in the registry. With that upgrade notice turned off in the registry, I am still getting popups occasionally asking if I want to upgrade now or "download now and upgrade later."

System works fine except when I shut the system down. Sometimes it shutdowns as expected, other times the computer hangs on the "System shutting down screen", and fans continue to operate. I then have to manually shut it down by holding the power button down for several seconds. I only do this when it is continuing to run after about a minute or two.

During these times I am not (?) downloading anything that I am aware of, UNLESS there is something involved with the Windows 10 download although no messages on the screen indicating a download of any sort. Tried letting the computer run for extended times during this shut down sequence, but that didn't seem to do any... Read more

Hi All,
I have an XPS 8900 with a z170 (v 2.1.10) and Core i5-6400. I was thinking of upgrading the CPU to an  i7-7700K. Is there a Dell bios update for the z170 to handle that?
Thanks.

Answer:Is there a Z170 bios update for i7-7700K?

No.  The system was replaced with the 8920, which is the model that supports the Kaby Lake CPU.  A BIOS update won't enable support - you'd have to replace the mainboard with one from an 8920 system.

guys,

disclaimer; i've posted about these problems separately in this forum before, thinking i could get better results by isolating and posting the problems separately. this is the grand summation of everything i tried and got

build
-----
i7 6700k
ASUS Z170-A
Kingston 2.8 16GB 2133mhz
Sandisk Ultra II 480 GB

problem: i cannot restart / get into windows

stuff i did:
0. first off, this is my second mobo. i had a prior Z170-A that had the same issues. thinking it was a bad mobo, i exchanged the board for a new one (this one i'm posting about now)

0.1 i disabled fast boot & secure boot, use AHCI (not SATA) and set the CSM settings in BIOS as recommended by "Megahertz07" in another thread. i'm not gonna post all that here, this is already long enough. (thank you for your wisdom and guidance btw). as for the hard drive being GPT or MBR, i don't know, its whatever windows formats it to be when you install, as i have not changed any settings

0.2 the SSD is plugged into the recommended SATA port marked "SATA_3" and is the only SATA device connected (yes, not even the DVD is connected, as is recommended by other forum members)

1. i created and installed win 7 + USB drivers using the ASUS tool on the website

2. *i also tried just installing win 7 via a legit DVD before (no USB drivers), thinking USB 3.0 drivers wouldn't be needed, but the same problems arose

3. the install goes well

4. i get into win 7 for the first time (name the comp, set password e... Read more

Hi, after some struggling I was able to clone (using Samsung Cloning Tool) my original Windows 8.1x64 from a Samsung 830 SSD to the Samsung 950 Pro in the Z170-A
onboard M.2 slot and boot Windows 8.1x64 from it.
Then I added a 2nd 950Pro mounted on a PCIe card to the 3rd PCIe slot and was able to successfully build a RAID 0 array in the BIOS using the EZtool.
The problem is that I was unable to see the RAID0 array in the bootable devices list, so when I try cloning or restoring the image with a 3rd party tool (Acronis True Image),
the restoring software reports that there's no disk detected (it does not see the RAID 0 array).
I'd appreciate any help on how to do this successfully.

hey all,

after reading the owners' reviews of the Z170-A on newegg, i was shocked to find the amount of DOAs and reports of poor service form ASUS after having encountered a problem.

how prevalent / true is this? it seems like poor and declining QC is a common thread among all the reviews...

should i still go ahead with getting the Z170-A or should i consider another model / manufacturer entirely?

any recommendations?

parts i have so far
- 6700k
- EVGA 1060
- Kingston DDR4 16GB 2133mhz

im planning on keeping this stock for a couple years and may do light overclocking in the future

Answer:questionable ASUS Z170-A quality

I can most definitely confirm that Asus customer support is sub par.

But on the other hand they are very quick to chat and get your issue resolved.

I`ve never gotten a dead board out of the box, but if you damage a board you will not get a new one unless you buy a new one, you will get a re certified board.

Other then that my Z77, Z87 and Z170 have all performed just fine.

The Z170-A is a fairly cheap board

I have been going round in circles for 24 hours to fix this issue to no avail so was hoping somone with more knowledge and experience can light the way.
This is a new build and the sound has never worked.

Symptoms:
Red cross next to speaker icon-no audio output device is installed
Control panel-sound-no audio devices are installed
Device manager- Sound- Realtek HD audio- yellow exclamation mark
Realtek HD audio listed in sys tray but no icon present
No sound..

Attempted remedies:
I have installed the chipset and realtek drivers that came with the mobo.
Checked hd audio is enabled in bios.
Enabled/ disabled in bios- no change.
Installed latest chipset and realtek drivers from asus- no change.
Installed from realtek and intel- no change
Uninstalled/reinstall from device manager- no change
Update driver- have the latest driver
Uninstalled all audio drivers-reboot-windows installs realtek driver-no change
Troubleshoot- couldn't identify the problem

In Speccy, Realtek high definition audio is listed under audio.

I don't have much knowledge in repspect of driver certificates but under properties for the realtek in device manager I have this:
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

If I uninstall that driver it gets replaced with the same with the same message.... Read more

Answer:No sound z170 sabertooth and realtek

What is the error code in the Device Manager for the Realtek?

If you uninstall the Realtek and drivers in the device manager and restart the PC, does Windows install the generic High Definition audio device (drivers) and does it work?
