Display options will not apply at startup

Question: Display options will not apply at startup

Hi, I have a Geforce4 Ti4400 w/ WinXP Home and for some reason when I set my digital vibrance to meduim (under the nView tab) it won't remember it whenever I restart my computer. I even clicked on "Automatically apply at startup" box but it keeps on going back to the hardware default. The only time when it remembers is when I log off to another user and log back on. That works fine. Any ideas? All my drivers are up to date (29.42). Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Display options will not apply at startup

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Display options will not apply at startup

Hiya and welcome

Not sure if this will work, but have you tried logging on as the Administrator, then changing the settings?

Hello, i wonder if there is a way to apply specific folder settings to all subfolders without having to go through each one individually. Specifically i would like to know how to display the bit rate field in all subfolders of my music folder. I hope theres a way to do this and that someone out there is kind enough to share how it's done. Thanks in advance porps

Answer:apply folder options to all subfolders

Hello Porps,

You could use the tutorial below to apply folder views to all folders that have the same folder template (ex: Music) to do so.

Hope this helps,

Is there a way I can take a folder of docs or pictures etc and change for instance, the sort method, or icon size etc and have it apply to it and it's sub folders only without applying it to all the folders on my computer?
I can't seem to find a way to do it in Win 7, but perhaps someone might know of another 3rd party utility that would do it.
Any ideas?  I would really appreciate it.
I run Win 7 professional.

Answer:how to get folder options to apply to sub folders

in the folder in question, right click, and select properties. Go to security, and then click advanced. you would then click change permissions, and apply whatever permissions you would like to propagate, and then make sure to click the replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object. this will only effect the child folders under the folder you apply this on, so make sure not to do this on the root of the drive.

Seemingly a simple task - can anyone tell me how (or suggest a utility) to copy folder folder options from one folder to many at once. Ideally to all folders below the current one, but not to all folders on the computer. Thanks in advance....

Answer:Apply folder options to many (but not all) folders

Folder options as available from the control panel? There are a variety of options, which ones do you wish to apply to which folders? E.g Single click to open an item- you want this to only happen in some folders?I think most, if not all, the things are system wide, but maybe you could be more specific.

Screen resolution 640 X 480
Color Quality low 8 - bit
I rest them to

In Vista when I select Control Panel> Adjust screen resolution I get the Display Setting Dialog box that allows me to select my monitors and then select the Resolution and/or if I want to make the monitor my main monitor/Extend the desktop onto this monitor and to Drag the icons to match the physical location of my monitors. All of this works fine... Except when I want to accept what I have done. I do this with the OK or the Apply buttons.

When either of these buttons are pressed the screen goes blank, there is a pause and one sees another screen that asks that you confirm these setting. For a time prior to a recent Microsoft Vista update, I had about 5 seconds to confirm my settings, but recently the time needed to complete this procedure has expanded and I now only get this screen for less than a second and I cannot press the necessary button fast enough to accept the new settings and the operation is defeated and the screen goes back to its original settings. Is there any way to extend this timeout or any other way to configure my multiple (three) monitors????

It always stays on Selective startup. What's wrong?

Answer:Normal Startup Won't Apply In System Configuration

Do you have any programs in the startup list disabled? If you do, you will be in "selective startup". Open the task manager and go over to the startup tab. There's a column that says Enabled or Disabled.

Win10 Explorer View Options "Apply to All Folder"

I have tried a few suggestions on the web to correct this issue.

I work with a lot of Image / Video files in various folders. My prefered view to use is "Details" for ALL folders !

Here's the last thing I have tried:

How to Fix Annoying Folder View Type Change Problem in Windows

This seemed to fix all the normal browsing except when I do a "Search" on the folder pane ?

When I do a search in the explorer for a particular filename the windows switches from "Details" to "Content". Then i go to the folder "Options" on this content view and switch it to "Details". Now the "Apply to Folders" is GREYED out ?

For example I have a folder in my desktop with pictures, videos, documents, music, etc. I organized it by grouping by type, somewhere between large & extra large thumbnails, and a few other things. I want these settings applied to all other folders. I went to folder options and applied it to other folders. Nothing changed. My other folders, including my picture folder is still the same way it was. How do I apply to ALL folders?

Also 2nd question - I know you can zoom in on thumbnails by hitting ctrl + mouse scroll wheel, but is there a way you can do it with a keyboard and not the mouse?

In Computer > Properties > System Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery,
the option "time to display recovery options when needed".
Can we use this option to disable Windows Startup repair so that Windows 7 will startup Windows normally at all time?
This option is currently no selected, however the Windows is starting up with the Startup Repair screen when it went into bluescreen etc.

If we select this option and change to 0 seconds (without
running bcdecit /set {default| recoveryenabled to No), will Windows start up normally without going to Repair option?

Noticed that even on machine that has recoveryenabled set to No. bcdebit /set {default} recoveryenabled No --- the "time to display recovery options when needed still remains uncheck.
are these two: recoveryenable No vs time to dipsplay recovery options option related/same?

Windows 10.
If I use the Windows Key-X, or click on the windows icon and do a right click, the menu items are displayed but only a few of the menu items actually then do anything if they are selected.
For example clicking on the Control Panel - nothing happens.
If the type Control Panel in the taskbar search box - control Panel is displayed and clicking on that displays the Control Panel.
It was working fine, then suddenly stopped.
I have also tried logging in to another account but the same problem exists.
Any idea how I can get the Windows Key-X menu options to be reset - I have tried a restart, but no change.

Best regards

I can make other changes and the button is there but it still won't save the exe changes. I am at my wits end. I have been on most forums looking for the answer. Please help.

Greetings! A few days ago, my Lenovo R60 lost the ability to find its operatong system.  My computer support person suggested I buy a new hard drive in case it was necessary.  I wanted a bigger hard drive anyway, so I installed it, loaded the operating system (WinXP Pro), and installed everything else I needed.  The computer is now working.  However, there are Lenovo-specific things I am missing.  It used to be that if I held down the blue Fn key and clicked F7, I would get a display that allowed me to select various display options.  That does not happen now.  Also, if I click the volume buttons, a little display consisting of a set of vertical lines would show up on the bottom of my screen showing what my current volume settings are.  While the volume buttons still work, the display does not appear. What can I download to get those displays back? Thank you very much! RobR

I've been having numerous problems with my X61 7675-CTO with Win Vista Business and most of them are due to Lenovo's system updates. But this one is a "residue" from when I had my computer sent in for service. Ever since, upon startup I hear three beeps: one long and two short ones. Furthermore, no buttons seem to work while starting the computer - not the blue ThinkVantage button, not F8 (to choose e.g. safe mode) and no other buttons. So when I have problems (which I do...) I cannot start the computer in safe mode, I cannot run Rescue & Recover and I cannot run PC Doctor.I have tried everything I can think of, but I really have no clue why these startup options won't work. Will I have to reinstall Windows to get this to work? (I really, really don't want to do that.) Are there any drivers or updates I can apply to alleviate this problem? Thanks.

Hi, I just installed windows 7 on my laptop and the power options page doesn't display a "dim the display" option, nor do the keyboard commands to dim the display do anything. Is there a way to fix this?

I am running a Lenovo G530 machine and there does not seem to be driver support for windows 7 on their support page. However I downloaded the mobile Intel 45 chipset graphics driver for windows 7 and I downloaded the newest bios update; nether seemed to solve the problem.

I have a Gateway 22" LCD display that is less than a month old.

Recently, I have noticed that when I turn on the display it takes about 40-50 seconds until it displays the picture, whereas it used to display the picture almost instantly when I turned on the display. Once the display is on, the monitor seems to function just fine.

I can't recall making any sort of changes that would effect this sort of issue, so I am wondering if anyone in here has had a similar experience, or can offer up any sort of advice on how to go about fixing this?

Hi everyone! I just want to say I'm very appreciative of any help anyone can lend me. First off I was experiencing the "blue screen" error, but only had once in the past month, and it had happened about 5 times in the year before that. Although, I don't know if that's related. I was recently playing a video game I just purchased when the laptop froze and the sound started skipping. I hard reset the laptop and attempted to start it back up. Everything on the laptop appears to startup, but the screen remains black. I plugged into an external monitor(had done in the past), but proved to be to no avail. I'm not sure on what to do, or what steps to proceed with. I searched the forums for a good few hours, but haven't found any information on to what I could do. Thanks again to anyone who can assist me. Season greetings!

Question: Display options

Hello all im on the search for a display and need some options. It will be used for a vehicle gauge cluster. It be connected via Bluetooth or canbus. Now i have seen people using tablets with an android app called shadowdash but would really like for something that powers on automatically when power is applied intead of having to power it on. Their are dedicated displays but cost upwards of 800 to 2000$ and im trying to keep it relatively cheap. If i have to use a tablet i would like for it to have physical front facing buttons and have a charge point seperate from the mini usb. If anyone has ideas or knows exactly what i could use let me know.

Tons of threads on XDA of people modding a Nexus 7 to install in their dashes. Some examples:

Nexus 7 car dash install + OTG charge + DVB-? | Nexus 7 | XDA Forums

Just search 'car install' on the General board there and you'll see a lot of examples of people that have done it:

If you do go this route, would recommend pairing the OBDII adapter you have (if you have one - if not, I recommend one of the OBDLink products as they have auto-on/off for the adapter itself) with the Torque app - which connects to the adapter and you can customize your gauge clusters to however you want.

Question: display options

this is a weird problem, ok here it goes, a couple days ago i turned on my brother's computer and realize that the desktop web browswer display bar taskbar was completely black, like you couldn't see anything even if u right clicked on the desktop, you cant see the refresh or anything liek that, and when you install something, you can't see the menu and where the words are like install, cancel, where to extract files etc, and i think it was because my bro's 60 day trial for windowblinds ended, i don't know, so just now i gave my bro another program made by stardock and he installed it after randomly guessing where the words are and he changed his skins, it changed back to normal, well you can see the taskbar etc now, but its the windows classic skin, and when i try to change it to a skin that i wanted from the stardock program, it would change only the icons, not the taskbar etc itself, but it can change into like the windows xp skin, the silver olive green and blue one< what is wrong can someone fix this i will continue to see what i can do to fix it, but anyone help please?

I'm thinking about buying an XPS 15 with the 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160) but I am confused by the Dell website and many listings across the web that give this specification and also say that the same unit is QHD+ 3200x1800. Can you explain why the contradiction? The Dell Website lists the XPS 15 with 2 options, FHD and UHD.. but before you can open the description it reads as follows: "The high-resolution 15" laptop features an optional Quad HD+(3200x1800) touch display that is 5x the resolution of a standard HD display." Is there a 3rd option? It doesn't seem that there is because many of the listings I see on the web give both resolutions for the same unit, and not a choice between more than 2 options.. Windows 7 64 turns off the monitor 1 signal after startup. At login, it powers off monitor 1 and powers on monitor 2. Windows 7 behaves as though dual display is working even though monitor 1 does not display. It's the same for single display, the monitor will not work on cable 1 except at startup.

Both 'Extend these displays' in Windows Screen Resolution and 'Extend' in the Nvidia Control Panel is selected. And changing which one is primary does not turn on monitor 1. Nor does switching the position of display 1 in either (ex. left/right/top/bottom).

HP Mini Tower - Win 10 Pro 64 bit

I'm trying to get my boot time a little faster. At boot, I am offered the option of going to Windows Desktop or to Macrium Backup And Restore. I can click Windows or Macrium, or I can do nothing and after a short period of time the desktop will appear.

I know nothing about Macrium as I have not investigated it yet. It may be something I want to keep, so I do not want to remove it. To make boot time faster, I would though, like to remove the option at startup. How can I do this without removing the software?

Answer:Win 10 Startup Options

Not sure how you got Macrium on your computer:
It's mostly for businesses. If you decide to remove it, the option will no longer appear. I don't know if Macrium Backup would work if you only have a trial version.

Question: 2 startup options

I done screwed up somethin. when I restart my computer I have 2 options to boot from. Windows XP Professional, and Windows XP Professional. The top one works fine. The second one does not work at all. I know there is a way to delete this second option once windows is completely started up. I just forget how. Can someone help? System restore is not going to work. It's been like this for a long time, I just didn't really care about it much until now. It just slows the boot time down and is kind of a pain in the but. Answer:2 startup options

Right-click "My Computer" and choose "properties". Then choose the "advanced" tab, then click settings under "startup and recovery". Next to the line that reads "To edit the startup options file manually, click edit" there's an "edit" button. Click that & your boot.ini file will open up. A single boot system should read similar to this:

[boot loader]
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT

Compare yours to this. If you're not sure which line you should delete, try simply adding a letter or number within the "Microsoft Windows XP Professional". Reboot & see if the extra letter pops up in the working line or the non-working line. Then you'll know which to delete for sure.

Sounds like you have XP on both drives . This would give you a dual boot . A couple of questions . Which HD is at the end of the ide cable ? On the boot screen what HD is listed first ? Do you have the jumpers set to master and slave and if so which one is the master ? Look in the main directory of each HD , set the options to show hidden files , copy and paste both boot.ini files

Question: XP Startup Options

I have two Windows XP options on startup. I need to delete one of them so that it boots into the correct XP.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I thought there would be a boot.ini which I could modify.

Please help me.

Answer:XP Startup Options

Start->Control Panel->System->'Advanced' tab->'Startup and Recovery' box ->Settings button.

There, you can see a list of options to choose from, you can probably figure it can edit the list by clicking the 'edit' button there. Good luck!

I have attached a picture of the screen options i am getting everytime i boot up a windows vista computer.....i have to choose every time to boot up windows vista or windows 7 (recovered)
the computer works perfectly fine when i choose vista (its a licensed windows vista computer)
the windows vista OS is only about 4 months old installed on this hard drive and its activated,
at one point in time i connected a hard drive from another computer via USB to this computer with windows 7 on it to do some repair work on the windows 7 drive, but i never copied anything (that i know of) to my hard drive,
i have checked the partitions on the drive and there are none, there are no seperate windows 7 partitions,
how do i get rid of this? and why is it doing this? sounds like there are two OS now installed on the computer? but to my knowledge there are not,
i dont really wanna wipe the drive if i dont have to

Answer:Startup Help/Options

Try going to system configuration >boot tab. (You can get to it from either administrative tools, or typing msconfig in the search box).
if there is a windows 7 option, highlight and delete that option. Press ok and restart. See if that removes your problem.

Have you recently run any Registry Cleaners and/or Tweaking Utilities? These things cause more problems than they claim to fix...

Regardless of how this happened, have you tried using System Restore to go back to a point before this problem started?

I was recently having problems with my PC (turned out to be a full temp folder) so I used the Win 98 disk to run repairs on the Operating system. When the PC restarted I was stuck with a 640*480 resolution and 16 colours. Normally we have a much higher resolution and "true colour." I can change from 16 colours to 250 or "high colour," but when I do this and restart for the effects to take place nothing happens. Same with the resolution however I only have three resolution settings to choose from when we normally have many more.

My PC is one of those anoying packages with everything built on to the motherboard, but I installed a graphics card a while back (nvidea riva TNT2 model 64/model 64 pro). The Device Manager says it's working fine, but i tried to reinstall the drivers (from the card's cd) anyway. Apparently I've got the best driver possible.

Please help me I'm sick of these massive windows and pixelated pictures.

Answer:Why are my display options so limited?

Go to and download the latest drivers to your hard drive

Disconnect from the internet, temporarily disable your Antivirus program and install the new drivers by double clicking on the downloaded file

What I would like is an extra-long monitor to display 3-4 slides simultaneously in 3 work areas. Anyone have any advice?

I'm missing some buttons and options from my display settings, and I have no idea why. Back story: I tried switching my video card drivers (going from omega drivers to ATI's new Catalyst suite), so I uninstalled my omega drivers, rebooted, and the ATI installer couldn't complete its installation. I downloaded and installed the new .NET Framework 3.0 because that was one of the problems it listed, but that didn't help any. I still had this problem:

"Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup."

Tried it a few more times with just driver and no control center, older versions I had - nothing worked. I used the catalyst uninstaller to get rid of what it had stored on my comp, then reinstalled my omega drivers - no problem with them. So out of curiosity I go through my Windows' display settings in the advanced area, and I notice I'm missing a lot of stuff I know was there before. On the Adapter tab there is now NO info in the Adapter Information box; on the Monitor tab it no longer lists my monitor in the Monitor Type box, the properties tab is grayed out, and in the Monitor Settings box I can no longer select a screen refresh rate; all it has is "Use hardware default setting." And of course, I'm missing all the tabs I used to have for my video card's settings and options. Any help as to how I can get my Windows' display options back and how to get it to re-recog... Read more

Answer:Missing Display Options

Solved my own problem this afternoon. It seems all the back-and-forths with the drivers caused Windows to stop recognizing the hardware for the video card and the monitor as being connected, which is why I wasn't getting any options (it thought there was nothing connected to provide options for). I used the Add Hardware function in the Control Panel to add my card and monitor, loaded the ATI drivers I wanted and restarted - problem solved.

Answer:TV LCD resolution display options

I looked at this site: found that the maximum resolution supported by your comp is 1280x1024 which is not very good. According to this site, your comp has AGP graphics. Go on and look for an AGP graphics card.

Should I roll back my display driver? Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Answer:No Display Options for 10041

I'd see if you can download an updated driver for the video card in the HP.
Be careful as some OEM's use special drivers for video (so if you use the AMD/nVidia drivers you may have issues).
Set restore points and backups and proceed with caution.

Just installed 7 Pro x64 and it seems to me that previously on XP, when you go to your control panel and display settings, in the display dropdown there was an option for your monitor and another for the graphics card. However with 7, I only see the option for the monitor. Is this normal?

Answer:Display settings "display" dropdown options

Small correction: what I see in XP in the display options is a default card driver and then the actual video card driver. In 7, I only see the monitor name as an option. Is this just the way 7 works? I'm not sure the graphics are as they should be. They seem a little choppier than what I expected.

How can I be sure the video driver is being used?

When the EU turns the system on, they see two user names. The "Admin" account -which they can't access because they don't know how- and the account they are allowed to log into.

I need the Admin account to be active, but I want to simplify the login proccess as much as possible. Do you guys know of any way to have the login screen show only the login for one account, while having the other available would remain available through selecting "Log Off" or "Switch Users" or what not? I can do this on our thin clients (XP Embedded), but I haven't found a way to do it on these Win7 laptops. Whatdayathink?

Thanks, SF'ers!

Answer:User Startup Options

Hello Jason,

I suppose that you could set Windows 7 to log on automatically to the 2nd user account at startup. This way they never see the log on screen, and you can still use "Log Off" or "Switch Users" to log on to the administrator account.

Hope this helps some,

During startup the computer Shows 2 options of "Windows XP Professional" & "Microsoft Windows XP Professional"

And a countdown timer of 30 seconds. Both will boot to Windows just fine. Just really stupid and annoying.

It all started after doing this.
Yeah yeah, stupid I know. Since it didn't fix it anyway. I ended up fixing it, and now I want to remove the second option.

It is NOT two partitions. Both will boot the same Windows, same files, same everything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:2 Windows XP Options at Startup

You only need to modify c:\boot.ini using Notepad, but to do so you need first to show hidden system files in Windows Explorer, and also to change the attribute of boot.ini to remove the hidden attribute.

You may be able to figure out which lines you need to remove but if you aren't sure just copy the text into a post and we'll advise.

When I boot up, I have no more F8 startup options, such as booting to safe mode. Instead what comes up is a simplified boot order menu that allows me to choose what boots up in what order.

I need to log on as an administrator to fix my other (self-inflicted) problem...

In a moment of sheer idiocy I went into the proprties for the RPC Service. I then went into the Log On tab and changed the log-On to the "Log On As", "This Account" option, and browsed to find my profile name. All this because I was trying to be able to change settings elsewhere that needed administrator privileges...I can't log in as the Admin because I can't get to the startup options menu by pressing F8.

Now Windows comes up, but all services dependent of the RPC won't work because the RPS service itself can't like system restore.
I've been hunting through the System32 file hoping I would find something to help.
I tried using the XP CD to restore or repair, but neither worked; the repair option never even came up.
I replaced my NTLDR from the CD because the computer wouldn't boot at one point, and said it couldn't find it.
I've been able to get in and do a file transfer wizard and back up some other files to my other HD, but I really don't want to reinstall XP if I don't have to.

Any suggestions or knowledge on whether I can find that line of code telling the RPC service what its Log On is, so I can repair it manually? Somewhere, it just needs to be told N... Read more

Answer:Advanced Startup Options Gone, RPC off!

OK, people are reading this but not replying...I wish I knew what that means... anyway,

I figured out which files on the OEM XP cd were the ones for the RPC service, and expanded them directly into the system32 file, overwriting the old ones (rpcns4.dl_ and rpcrt4.dl_ on the XP install CD). I'm quite proud I figured out how to do this.

The good news: it's no worse than before, but the bad news: it's no different than before either.
I can't get into the properties for the RPC service via the Services console. All talk I can find on different sites for restoring default settings involve using the Service Console and have to do with the startup type, not logon.

Sorry I forgot this info in first post:
AMD 3700, Asus A8N-E Mobo, 2 gigs ram, 30 gig 10k rpm HD on ide (with OS), 120 7600 rpm HD on serial, with a FAT sector on the larger drive for backup. Windows XP home with SP3.
I run Avast AV, COMODO internet security suite/firewall, Spyware Blaster, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Autoruns, HijackThis/Kaspersky, and Sisinternals suite.
Full scans came up clean, although I got something weird back in August that I still wonder if I worked out all the kinks...that's when my F8 options disappeared.

Somebody tell me something! Am I on the right track? How can I reinstall/reset all the settings for the services? I need to change that logon, it;s the source of all my current problems...except the missing advanced startup F8 menu for after the POST...

Answer:[SOLVED] Startup Options

Hi OM3GA !

Vista overwrote the boot loader, you'll need to restore the original one.

Go to start => run and type : c:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 c
assuming C is the system drive. If there's no boot folder on C: you can find bootsect on the Vista CD.

Second solution : Start => run => c:\boot\fixntfs -xp (fixntfs is the older bootsect)

Third solution : boot on the XP CD, press 'R' to access the recovery console then type fixmbr then fixboot. Better to backup your data first.

hi guys,
I have a 5.5 year-old Packard Bell laptop which works very well.

Today, I've had to re-install Windows XP onto it after I created some problems.
So far everything's apparently fine, except for one little detail:
When I turn on the pc, I get 4 different options, of which the first one (the only good one) will be picked by default if I don't choose a different one before 30 seconds time. The other 3 (not good ones) were created during some failed recovery attempts and an installation that was later rendered useless.

Before, I used to get only 2 options:
- Windows XP (normal)
- Windows XP Safe mode
which I was happy with.

But now, I want to delete the 3 'bad' options that I will NEVER use, nor any data related to them.

So, my question is:
How do I delete those options and ALL the start-up data related to them?
Also, how do I create a 'Safe mode' start-up option like I used to have before?

BTW, previously I had Windows XP Home.
But today I've installed Windows XP Professional.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Startup options & CHKDSK

You could try opening msconfig and looking at the boot.ini tab.
This should give you a list of operating systems.
select the unwanted ones (one at a time) and then click on 'check all boot paths'
If the entry is invalid (os missing) it will ask if you want to delete the entry-choose yes.
If the unwanted boot options are not listed then you can boot from your xp cd and choose the repair option. If you have not set an administrators password during the previous install then hit enter.
You should have the windows os listed as 1
enter 1 and at the command prompt type fixboot and hit enter.
At the next startup you unwanted options should have gone.
Check this kb if you want more detailed info wrt the recovery console.

i have several os9.2.2 machines that are trying to open a network share that they don't have access to on startup. you need to click "ok" between 10-40 times to get past the error message. i would like to remove the "startup script" or whatever is having the os do this, but i cannot find it.

when i go to appleshare in chooser and connect to the server that it is trying to open, it gives me a bunch of shares and the options to check the boxes to get them to open at startup, i am not seeing any of the boxes checked, and it gives me an error saying "not supported under this logon method" everytime i try to check/decheck any of the boxes.

we upgraded the server to Windows Server 2003 yesterday so these machines are unable to access the share using the chooser method, however I've installed Microsoft UAM for AppleShare 3.8 on them so we can connect to the shares via Network.

any ideas on how to get rid of this startup option?

Answer:Windows 8.1 startup options

I had that issue similar, perhaps not related, but in this case the person had a "microsoft-like" company (scammers) call and tell them their computer was broken and they could log in remotely and fix it, total scam. Needless to say when said client balked at the $$$ they want, they ran a small script(they are logged on to the computer at this point), which put a non windows password in place on reboot. Also when you try to work around you find you can't access it via safe mode etc, and then as you say the "Advnaced Repair" option only gave the "start up repair" choice. The other options were not listed as you say.To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!message edited by HopperRox

Hey Everyone,  So I just recently learned that the lenovo docks cannot display 3 independent external displays with the w530 as the 4th. One rep even told me that if I were to try to set up a quad display, that one of the displays would merely be a clone of what's on the laptop (unacceptable). Does anyone have a good work around for this? For example, what if I combine the lenovo dock with a ViDock 4 ? Or perhaps a DynaDock 3.0 ? Are these solutiions "overkill" when combined with the lenovo dock?Is there a more efficient/cheaper solution to be had? Ideally, I would like to just stick the w530 into the lenovo dock and have 3 independent external displays working along with the laptop as the 4th display, and then eject the w530 from the lenovo dock without any fuss. What do you think? Any help or suggestions on this matter would be greatly appreciated.Thank you very much.

Answer:w530 Quad Display Options

Add this USB 3.0 docking solution and you'll be able to drive 5 displays total!

Hi everyone!!

I just loaded IE 7 and so far I really like it. It handles several productivity issues that I had with previous versions.

There are a couple of things that I find very annoying though and I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are options somewhere in the software to change them. I looked but couldn't find anything or maybe I just don't know what I should be looking for.

1. I don't like the main icons being on the right side of the tab row. The ones group as Home, Print, Tools, etc. It looks like they are stuck there and can't be moved anywhere else. Is there somewhere to change that?

2. The address bar seems to be set at one size and can't be changed either. I really don't need to see a full screen width of the web address that I'm at.

3. The google search bar is at the end of the main address bar and it can't be moved or resized either.

4. My login cookies are getting deleted or reset very quickly. I can be working on a site, walk away from the computer for a few minutes, come back and I have to login again.

Any help would be great!!

Answer:Solved: IE 7 menu display options

Like you have tried to adjust the layout of the toobars to bring the 7 key buttons into one area, Top Right Bottom left I dont care just get them together. Eventually sent a poem to MS explaining the issue with the Hokey Cokey toolbar layout

Click top left to go back
bottom right to go home
top left, bottom right your mouse is going wild
pause and look and stare a bit the rest must be here
that's what upgradings about

Dont you love learning from scratch again
Microsoft has done it again
Productivities down again
Thats what its all about

Click to bottom left to get your favorites
to top right to get a refresh
bottom left, top right your mouse is going wild
I've had it now for 24 hours, I'm on my second mouse
that's what upgradings about

And then how can I get the Menu toolbar back to the top of the screen ABOVE the address bar. Took long enough to find it and at least get some words back. Right Click anywhere on the toolbar and select Menu Bar to get File / Edit / View etc back. Also requested a toolbar editor so we can put everything in OUR logical order. Havent heard anything back from them yet. Also cannot force the AOL toolbar to disappear for good, even uninstalling doesnt work, cant dump AIM as my college kids call home on it. If you have the Weatherbug bar use add remove programes to get rid of it.

Answer:system restore using xp cd display options

hi, did you format your hard drive and then reinstall? If so have you reinstalled your video card drivers??? If you have not then that may be why you cant change the display setings. Your using the on board graphics and not your card. Hope this helps.

i recently put my XP PC in the fixit shop to get the computer past the blue screen after a power cut ,so the PC is fine now allthough in display options in desktop backgrounds all the preset picture options have been dissabled meening that they are there to see but they are not clickable and cant be scrolled up nor down ,theyre have changed color as if to say "locked" ?

the color (colour) options that are there ' are available and of course i have a color for the background

when i go to a picture on the web or my pictures and right click to set as background nothing changes , but - when the PC boots up it shows the selected background just befor the desktop loads and then disapears being replaced by the color ive chosen before

ive had a glitch on the screen before and i could see the desired background through the glitch on the desktop.

it has been like this for 6 months (the background problem)

i dont want to contact the fixit shop because they had this computer for 3 weeks and when i finally got through to them they said what do you want us to do ? and i said get it past the blue screen ,they said oh ok!

so when i got the PC back - the background was set to BLUE

i dont know if they did it deliberately for the joke or what ?!? so i wont be asking them incase of giving them a chuckle , if thats the case

i went to the XP help webste and found something there about it (i think)
they tell me to run the (MMC) (microsoft management ... Read more

Hello! I bought a refurbished Z570 10249QU about weeks ago and while it has been great to me for the most part, there's something I've started to wonder. Is it possible to manually set picture mode for the laptop's display? Right now I can only see it available through the OneKey Theater's intelligent mode and it's only active when I'm viewing images. I sometimes do image editing and would like to have picture mode on whenever I have an image editing program open. I'm asking because I would like to have a better idea of what the final product could look like without having to switch to Windows Photo Viewer.

Answer:Question about Z570's display options

Hi RedDragon88,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m sorry to inform you that some programs may not be compatible with intelligent mode like while editing a picture, below is the link to download the user guide and refer page no. 24 for the features supported by OneKey Theater button.

Hi All,I'm thinking about buying the Thinkpad X1 Yoga and currently leaning towards the FHD (1920x1080) option due to the fact I'm not sure how useful increased resolution would be on a 14" screen. I would more seriously consider the OLED model but the fact it has a glossy finish is kind of a negative for me. I'm also concerned about battery life and possible burn-in issues associated with OLED. I'm curious how the color and gamut of the WQHD IFD compares to the FHD model. Also the FHD doesn't list on the specs page as Anti-Glare, but the WQHD does. Is this correct?14" WQHD (2560 x 1440) OLED, Touch, 300 nits14" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, Touch, 300 nits14" WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS, Anti-Glare, 300 nitsAny advice on this decision is appreciated. Thanks,M

I have come across a new problem and I am having trouble locating any specific information on fixing it. There is a series of problems. The first was a red circle with a white X in the middle advertising Anti-Spyware. Cleaned that up with Super Anti Spyware. When this problem started, the background was changed to solid black with a red warning box in the bottom right that had a message about the computer being infected, need anti...etc, etc. Fixed that with a SmitFraud registry merger. The remaining problems are that I cannot change my display options to anything but solid colors. The menu of windows backgrounds is locked out and will not respond to anything. The other issue is an error message on startup that says "cli.exe - Application Error" Then there is a big red cirlce with a white 'X' in it, next to which appears "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). Click on OK to terminate the application." I have been searching for hours to find a solution. I'm sure I'll find some help here.

I am operating Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2

Answer:Desktop Display Options Locked Out

Fixed that with a SmitFraud registry mergerWhat exactly is that?Did you mean to say you were using the generic instructions for using SmitfraudFix in BC's self-help tutorial "How to remove the Smitfraud/Generic Zlob"? If not, then you should follow the instructions provided there. If you did, see if this helps:Go to Start > Control Panel > Display. Click on the "Desktop" tab then click the "Customize Desktop" button. Click on the "Web" tab and under "Web Pages", you should see a checked entry called Security info or something similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the Delete button. [*]Click "Ok" then "Apply" and "Ok".

Please bare with me, I'm new to this but:

I have a Dell XPS 15 running 7 x64 (more details please see my page) and I am trying to dim my display through the OS. When I press the Fn keys to change the display brightness, the notification shows on screen that it is changing the brightness with a nice little slider and all, but nothing moves and the brightness won't change. I've tried pressing repeatedly, holding down, no change. So naturally, the next step is to change the display brightness settings in power options. Only problem is, IT'S NOT THERE! I have no option relating to display brightness. I've tried re-installing display driver with no help. I don't know if it is a problem with Dell's display not supporting the function or with Windows 7 not offering.

Thanks in advance for any help, please ask if any more info is needed.

Answer:Not able to dim display either with Fn keys or through power options.

Try uninstalling your video driver and installing the latest video driver from Dell:

I ran a bunch of updates for windows 7 just before Xmas.  Upon restart I had no resolution options above 1068*720 despite having comfortably running 1920*1280 previously.
I updated drivers to no avail, deleted drivers and reinstalled and no luck.  I created custom resolutions of 1600*900 and 1920 * 1280 which look plain awful so I'm hoping someone can help.
Whilst digging through my computer I found the following error from just after the first updates prior to Xmas which may help

Hello all.  About a month ago I got my w530 laptop connected to my samsung smart tv using  a mindisplay port cable.  ITS GREAT! But now that I've been using it for awhile there are some things I'd like to tweak.  Here's what they are: 1.) When the laptop lid is open, both screens have 1680x1050.  Using "project" mode. However when I close the lid, resolution on the tv changes to 1080x??? (whatever is the highest, 1080p. being lazy here.) How do I keep the same resolution when I close the lid? 2.) Is there any way to veiw things on the laptop screen 1080p, but on the TV 1680x1050? 1080p looks great on the computer but I get a little bit of cut off area on the TV, which is why I have been keeping them both lower res. 3.) Is there anyway to get rid of the cutoff on the TV when in 1080p, because Im pretty sure that the tv is 1080p compatible. I suppose there is a slight chance it's not beause verything looks so "right" in 1680x1050.  Here's a couple screen shots so you can see how much is cut off:  Hopefully somebody can tell me exactly which settings will change these things. Thanks ahead of time for applying your wisdom to my problems...

Answer:help me fine tune my display options

are you using the two display as clones of each other, or independent? if its cloned then both of the screen must have the same resolution.

Answer:Windows XP Startup Options - how do I remove a OS

Right-click on My Computer and select Properties. From the dialogue box select the Advanced Tab and select the settings option from the Startup and Recovery section. In here you can change the settings for the Boot.Ini file safely. In your case select the OS from the top window and make the timeout value 0. You could of course edit the boot.ini file if you are either competent or brave, but there is no need to do this.

Hi, as you can seem having some trouble with my laptop. When I boot up into Windows, I get a black screen which sometimes hangs then starts after 5 minutes and once it does i get recourse usage spikes up to 80% +. I formatted a number times it changes slightly each time but mostly similar affects. Tried both using an install disk and recovery partition. Now in the latest install of Windows ( Windows 7 professional x64), it won't go past the black screen, or even load the Windows installer wizard from the Windows disk so further formatting seems out of the question. It's a 2010 version of a Sony vaio E series, so is not an old laptop. I really could use some help here. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Black screen on startup. Out of options....

Hello Perilion,

If it is a new laptop, I would call Sony up for support as it sounds like it should still be under warranty. If you have reformatted it a number of times, and are still getting black screens it sounds like some sort of internal hardware issue. Take advantage of that warranty.
With Regards,

Hey guys, I'm back with the same problem as before.
(see: BSOD on startup. Rare if I can get into Windows.)

If you don't want to read it, the gist is I had BSODs on start up two weeks ago and no safe mode or repair option including repair CD would work. I got some diagnostic CDs from a friend, ran some tests and could randomly get into windows. I ran memtest86 on all my RAM sticks and chkdsk and everything came back fine. I ran Malwarebytes which found something and when I restarted it appeared to be fixed.

Now, I thought it was fixed but I guess not. It worked fine until last night (approx a week and a half) when it suddenly started happening again. Like before, I am getting BSODs on startup and they are different every time. Below are some images of a few of the BSODs. I am currently running memtest again but I dont expect it to find anything.

Is there something else I can do that I haven't already done?

BSOD pics (error # - Description):
7E - ACPI.sys
C5 - Driver/Hardware
1A - Memory_Management
E4 - Parameters
D1 - Driver IRQL
7E - wdf01000.sys

Answer:BSODs on startup. F8 options don't work.
