Boosting system beep volume relative to other sound volume?

Question: Boosting system beep volume relative to other sound volume?

Here is a question I can't seem to find the answer to in the archives.

How can adjust the volume output from my Windows ME machine (with SoundMax Digital Audio) so that the volume of the background music I like to listen to (via RealOne Player version 6.0.10.505) is quiet, but the other important sounds my PC makes (like email or calendar notifications) are loud enough so I can hear them?

I've seemingly tried all combinations of settings for the volume sliders/adjustments, including:

1) The volume knob on my speakers
2) The RealOne Player volume slider
3) The Windows volume control panel "Volume Control" slider
4) The WIndows volume control panel "PC Beep" slider

Even when the "PC Beep" volume slide is set to maximum, and the "Volume Control" slider is set near minimum in the Windows volume control panel, the PC beep is virtually inaudible when the background music is acceptably quiet (by adjusting the RealOne volume slider and/or the volume control on my speakers).

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some other way that I'm not thinking of to boost the volume of the system sounds my PC makes, while keeping the RealOne music volume low?

Thanks,

--Dean

Hi,

new here, I flew to Barcelona a couple weeks ago and returned a few days later and had a bad cold and have obtained blockages in my Eustachian tubes from both ears and have therefore gone quite deaf albiet temporaraly. Doc says up to 2 months to recover, anyway, I'm therefore struggling to hear anything (its like having 2 well fitting earplugs, or the sound lost experienced during decent in a plane) including my music. While being quite deaf gives me a good excuse to ignore someone who is irritating me, I love music as most people do.

I have good battery powered wireless headphones (batteries not low) and have tried plugging them into my Toshiba vista laptop (which I use for all my work and most personal stuff), although I get a slightly better volume plugged into my xp media centre/ file server, it's still not loud enough.

My speakers are brilliant but due to living in a shared house I cannot blast my music through them at 2am while I'm working!.

Does anyone have a suggestion on any software that may allow me to boost the volume on either my xp machine or vista lappy?. I need my fix and a couple of months without will drive me crazy!.

Also, as a footnote I must say I'm disappointed with Vista (it came with home premium, was thinking of upgrading to ultimate but am now thinking of reverting to xp), my new lappy with 2 gig ram and core duo was bought for work of many types but am struggling to get basic things like photoshop and quicktime to work... Question: System Beep Volume

I need to know if there is a way to regulate the loudness of the system beeps.  We have an applications that utilizes the sytem speaker on the mainboard.  Normally this is not a big problem, but the onboard beeper is very loud.  This is very irritating for my users.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to turn down the volume without disabling the system beep altogether? Thanks in advanceMike

Answer:System Beep Volume

Hi, I'm having the same problem... The beep is painfully loud...  And it seems that lots of the results from Google are about how to totally turn it off but not to turn it down... Anyone has any idea about adjusting the beep volume? Thanks a lot! Jack

Question: Boosting volume.

Not sure if this is the right part of the boards for this, but here goes.

I recently aquired a nice set of headphones I want to use with my computer, except my speakers don't have a headphone jack, and when I plug the headphones directly into the computer the volume is so low, I can barely hear it. (This is with all of the volume settings set to max in the windows mixer)

Is there a way to raise the volume more then that so that I can use my headphones, or will I need to buy new speakers that have a headphone jack?

Hello Everyone.

I have a microphone, and it is very quiet. I have the Recording Volume set to its max, and Microphone Boost set to +30.0 db (max).

Is there anything else or a program that I could use to bring the microphone's volume even higher? This is used for a live broadcast.

Thanks

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

Hello everyone, I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop running Windows Vista. I recently bought a USB audio sound card (since my computer's headphone jack was damaged).

The volume control on my computer has always worked fine, but when I plug in the sound card I'm no longer able to control the volume via the sound icon on the taskbar. The sound card's volume always comes in full blast, and I can only lower it through the controls in the program it's currently running (i.e. the volume control in a YouTube video). Therefore, when I try to control it directly through my computer it doesn't work.

Is this a common problem? Is there any way I can get this fixed or configured, or is there a problem with the sound card?

Answer:USB Sound Card - system volume control not working

As this is a software issue my response has to be quite limited. Basically, you may need to check a box specifying your default audio device in your sound settings. Hope this helps, if not drop your question into the software section.

Greetings!

I'm having a little problem here which I wasn't quite able to solve using the official Creative Support.

First a little explanation:
Before installing my new Sound Blaster ZxR I had to temporarily use the Onboard Sound of my Asus Rampage IV Black Edition because of a SLI Water cooling component blocking the necessary PCI Port of the former Sound Card ( a Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Professional ).

Because of the cracking ( grounding loop? ) I receive during the startup when using 3.5mm jacks ( or 1/4" with the ZxR ) I stopped using them whenever possible and instead started using the Toslink connection on both the Recon3D AND the RIVBE as it electrically disconnects the PC from the Sound System.

Now here comes the Problem:
Using the new Sound Blaster ZxR and having it connected via Toslink to my Sound System I'm not able to control the Volume using...
Multimedia Keys on my KeyboardVolume Mixer from the TaskbarEven Muting isn't possible

The only way to change the Volume level from now on has been by doing one of the following four...
Change the Volume level by Hand in the corresponding App itself, not the overall System Volume - Kind of sucksUsing the Hardware Dial on my Speaker System - Hard to reachSwitch from Toslink to Jacked Cables - Startup cracking
Also

Switching the default Playback Device from Speakers to Digital Audio (S/PDIF) - Will cause me to loose the ability to run Encoders like Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect and it's DTS Neo:PC Music... Read more

Answer:Sound Blaster ZxR and Toslink - No System Volume Control

I have a recording studio and use Toslink's. I have to control the volume level in my recording program. There are level controls on my recording interface unit (Roland Octa-Capture) but it is for analog only.

In a PC, when you use a digital output, that bypasses all (or most all) of the sound card as the device its feeding is the one that has the volume level control. I suspect this also applies to what you have, as it apparently works the way my Toslink works (the level control in the application program).

This is a minor thing but is too annoying.

I have Windows 7on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop A505 with a touch buttons for entertainment and volume.

When I press the minus(-) or plus(+) touch buttons it beeps very loud at every step which defeats the purpose of lowering the volume.

I can't find in W7 or Toshiba manual how to mute those buttons when pressed. (The play, forward, backward, etc buttons don't make any noise)

Answer:Up/Down Volume beep

Would think that would be in the Windows Sound Scheme
Device Manager under Sound and Audio Devices Properties.
Sound tab.
Program Events List.
Not sure which specific event, don't think there is just a volume change one.
May need to do trial and error to find out.

I use windows XP professional.
I tryed going to control panal and turning off all system sounds.
Every time i change the main volume in the default windows volume changer i get an internal beep.
how do i turn this off?
thank you.

Answer:Internal *beep* for volume changing

Below is how I fixed the same problem on my computer. It's a registry tweak, however, so if you're not familiar with editing the registry, back it up first, at the very least, and be very careful. The downside to this fix is that it turns off *all* system beeps (not sounds, which are different). If you rely on any of the beeps to tell you when something's going on with your computer, this fix may not be worth it to you.

1. Start regedit by going to Start, Run, then type in "regedit" (without the quotes).

2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound.

3. Once there, locate "beep" on the list on the right and highlight it.

4. Right click on it and select "modify."

5. Change the value equal to "no."

6. Close regedit and restart your computer.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

HiThe volume control slide in my task bar used to play a beep coresponding to the volume, loud beep when loud, soft beep when low, no beep when off etc.something has changed and now all i get is a single ding, no change in the volume of the ding wherever i set the volume. the old sound made it easy to set the correct volume, not so now. only way is to play a tune to see what the volume is (yes, i can see the slider so it isnt so bad).anyone know how to get the default settings back, i have looked at control panel/sound, i do not have any themes active, just windows default.i am using winXP Pro, ASrock mobo with onboard sound. Nothing has changed hardware wise but i have been installing some demos so it could be one of them. Is there a way to restore defaults before i try system restore. Thanks all

Answer:Volume Slider beep has changed

You need to go into control panel,Sounds Speech and Audio devices, then click on change the sound scheme and look down the list the sound is probably the "Default beep" sound you will need to highlight this click the play button to see if this is the sound you here if it is you can browse your windows media folder and find the sound you used to have and put it back to that.

I don't know if you can actually lower the volume, but you can turn the beep off completely. Go into Power Manager (double click the plug or battery icon in the tray). Click the  "Global Power Settings" tab. Uncheck the "Beep when power state changes" box. Click "Apply" then "Close." There you go. Andrew

Hi, I had to restore my computer to factory settings a few weeks back due to some trojan/virus. Now that its clean I've noticed the computer makes a sort of beep but its from inside the computer, not the speakers. This mainly happens when I change the volume through the speaker icon and also when I open up a certain video game. Also the soundbar (green volume thing) wont show up when I adjust the volume with the keyboard. Is there anything I could do to fix this?

Thanks for the help.

Answer:Internal Beep when adjusting volume

I think you can disable this in control panel in sounds/audio devices.
Go under the sound tab to change the sounds. Unless you mean a
beep that is like from the sound of the computer.

AS for the green volume bar, if the volume is still being adjusted, it's
probably just delay/lag, a restart of the computer or trying again later should
enable it to work just fine.

Hello,

When using this volume wheel to change the volume the screen will go black for about half a second and there is a beep that can be heard through my headphones. On previous notebook model (Satellite P500) there is an option in BIOS to disable the beep sound of volume control buttons.

You should find it in BIOS => Advanced => System Configuration. There is an option called ?Beep Sound? that you can disable.

Can you confirm this option on Satellite P750?

Just bought a refurbished X100e.  I am happy with it, especially after upgrading from 1GB of ram to 3GB. However, there is a beeping high pitched squeal that the machines emits non stop when running on battery power.  It's like 2 or 3 beeps per second, usually in rythem but occasional does it rapid fire a bit.  It is not there when it is plugged in.  It is also triggered when I type or when I scroll up and down with the up/down keys on the keypad.  If I hold down any button, such as backspacing a line or scrolling down a page with the down key, the beeping squeal is given a rapid fire effect for every backwards or downwards action. My power settings are on maximum performance.  I have not tampered with any other settings whatsoever.  I am running Windoes 7 Pro. Is there a solution to this?  Is it a peice of defective hardware?

Answer:x100e low volume high pitched squeal/whine/beep when on battery power

As you are experiencing high pitched squeal beeps while running on the battery mode.

To diagnose, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and also update the Bios of your Notebook from the below mentioned web link.

After this, please restart the notebook and check if the issue resolved.

Hello,

On my newly purchased Pro A200/PSAE7 the (hardware) volume control - front side, right from speaker plug - turns endless and when using it the volume does not change "smooth" - more "abrupt". Because of this there is no "fine tuning" possible.

So I have a Blue Yeti, and I'm an online animator/voice actor. Whenever I record audio on my Blue Yeti (OR any other mic) I record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as I yell or whatever. This is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. However, afterwards, it means I have really quite recordings. Not a problem right? Now that it's recorded right, I can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? WRONG. I'm not an audio expert so I must be missing something. But why in GODS NAME would the audio distort and peak AFTER it's recorded successfully? It's all there, it's all clean audio. If I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds CRYSTAL CLEAR! All I want to do is do that INSIDE the computer so that when I upload it to youtube people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. But if I increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! It sounds awful! Why?! I tried in Sony Acid and Audacity and they both do the same thing! Why?! I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here! I can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart! If anyone understands audio stuff, please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Answer:Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software.

I don't know about Acid, but it should allow clean recordings. Audacity the same way.

I record, generally, in the -10 level with my recording program, at 24 bits/44.1 Khz. At -10, I have plenty of headroom and can then adjust the levels after the recordings and at mixdown. I export the mix as a standard 16 bit/44.1Khz wav file and then "finalize" whatever I want to do to the song, including levels, with "Goldwave" (an audio editior).

I assume you are converting the audio to MP3? If that is the case, that may be where the distortion is occuring? I find that 128Kb MP3's are very poor and at a minimum use 198 Kb MP3's.

Hi all,

I have Toshiba Portege M800, and I have a problem with the volume wheel.
If I try to increase or decrease the volume by this volume wheel, it will change, but the volume not change linear.

For example, when I increase volume from 0 to something, volume is changed, during rolling, e.g. from 0-1-2-3-4-5-3-8-6 (thats just an example).

Why doesn't it change linear, e.g. 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 ?
Is it caused by software or it is hardware problem?

Could I claim the goods?

Thanks.

Answer:Portege M800 - volume wheel issue - volume level jumps

Hi

I have had a similar issue with the volume level on my Satellite notebook.
I tired everything; updated the BIOS, sound driver? I have also reinstalled my OS using the Roecvery disk but I didn?t notice any improvements.

Finally my ASP technician checked the volume wheel and cleaned the contacts and removed some dust.
This was the key?
The dirt affected the volume wheel functionality?

In my cases this helped but this does not mean that this will help you as well.
I think you should also update the BIOS and should check if you could update the sound driver.
If this will not help then it would be recommended to contact the ASP technician for opinion?

This on is quite perplexing to me. This is stemming from a volume problem that I had posted before. I have more detail and have narrowed down the problem but not the cause of such. When ever I click the volume control in winamp, not adjust necessarily, just click, my wave setting in my volume control (pannel that comes up by double clicking the speaker in the tray) drops. Of course this affects my overall volume. It is sparatic and does not drop the same amount two times in a row but will drop everytime I click volume in winamp. I am running winXP pro and have not installed so much as an update since the last time this was happening. The only thing I did change is I set up voice recognition in Office XP but I was having this problem before that. I have uninstalled and cleaned out all winamp files and reinstalled. Any suggestions? Winamp is the only player of any kind that this currently happens with.

Also, whenever I am using winamp to play an mp3 or streaming audio and I open another program, any program, or even just minimize/maximize a window, the audio starts cracking. This also has never happend before except of course when there is a heavy load on the system. As I said I am running XP pro, and FYI a Duron 900 cpu and 448MB RAM. As I am having these problems I am using 5% to 10% of my cpu and have 21000k physical memory availible according to task mgr.

Thanks.

Gentlemen,

I know I should read and followed the pinned piece before I asked for help, but given the emergency please excuse me,...here is what I encountered:

Blue Screen of death w/ description says uncorrectible hardware error, I guess that's truly bad.

I did the memory test using sony vaio/ microsoft OEM, memory is good.

I did the system restore several times, although completed and says successful, but blue screen keep coming back.

I went ahead did the CHKDSK, took me 4 and half hours, found 1 bad cluster, but corrected it says, then when i reboot windows, Intel Matrix Storage Console pops up at lower right hand corner of computer, telling me  "a drive is failing, back-up asap; seems to me it's port 1.

I know I need to back up, but given this situation, does it mean i have no choice but to expect this solid state drive is dying and can't be repair??

Hello there,
ive got an Acer (AS5739g-874g50mn) with Realtek integrated onboard. Im experiencing some sound issues which are some.. static noises, popping, crackling (or whats the word) regardless of volume. The noise seems to be relevant to system load as moving a mouse or scrolling a webpage slide makes it a bit louder, also the noise can be clearly followed by hdd indicator or just adding a dvd.. (ofcourse its minimal and i cant hear it during music or any other activity but its still annoying once idle)

Once i had windows 7 32bit installed and old headset used to crackle the same way as new headphones does now on 64bit os, however old headset is working fine on 64bit now.. (completelly silent once idle unlike headphones).

Ive tested new headphones on cellphone and win xp 32bit (not this machine) and it is working fine there, it seems that issue is not within device.
Headphones | Old headset

I tend to believe its a bad placed/isolated hardware issue as sound chip is very close to the main fan and gpu and maybe its just extended new headphones frequency range so i can hear it unlike the headset. (bonus freq: 10-20 & 20k-22k Hz) Is there some output software frequency limiter around, so i could test if thats the problem?

1 more note, be sure that no other software than fresh installed windows is making this issue as it happens just by installing 'default' windows drivers and the issue persists with all the specific Acer drivers installed from their driver d... Read more

Answer:Sound Crackling/Popping relative to system load

So, no ideas of what else could cause this? I could think of many issues myself but basically all of them are hardware-based, hence needs the new parts.
Any software-based fix scenarios would be most welcome!

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

Answer:Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

Try rolling back any keyboard driver updates, or go to the keyboard manufacturers website and download most up to date driver(s) from there.

Hello,

I have a problem with adjusting the volume. When I adjust the volume using the button on the left side of the laptop, I only can choose 3 "loudness levels":

No volume, very silent volume, and maximum volume (to loud).

Is this normal, doesn't anyone have problems with this?
I expect the problem is because of the digital volume adjuster. The adjuster doesn't register the exact position of the volume button. Every time when I get a phone call at work (I listen to internet radio), I turn off the radio using the adjuster on the side of the laptop. When I end the phone call, I always need to open the laptop and adjust the volume in the windows task bar, because when I use the volume adjuster on the left side of the laptop, it just immediately goes to maximum volume.

Answer:Question about volume adjusting on volume button - Satellite Pro U300

Hi

It?s very strange that your sound volume control contains only 3 volume levels?
I have noticed that Toshiba has released a new sound driver (v. 6.0.1.5473) on the European driver page.

So how about the sound driver update?
The sound driver controls definitely the sound volume and in my opinion it?s a worth a try.

Good luck

Hi,
Windows XP Home
RealPlayer 10.5

Ok, I used to have RealPlayer and all it's junk till I wised up
and removed it from my system over a year ago.

However, I recently installed the basic RealPlayer (that is...only allowing
the features that I needed for video/audio) in order to watch NASA TV
e.g. DEEP IMPACT and today's DISCOVERY launch.

My question is regarding why, when I mute or adjust the volume on
the RealPlayer, that it also does the same to the computer's Volume
Control (Speaker Icon in System Tray...Wave setting).

I had been viewing on the RealPlayer, muted the sound and then later
was wondering why I was not able to hear any of my videos, music, etc.
The thought occurred to me to check the Speaker Icon and, sure enough,
there was a check at Wave>>Mute.

Is there a setting I can check/uncheck that will allow RealPlayer and
Computer volume to be independent of one another?

Thank you,

Sorry but who says that volume regulator should pop up? This regulator will pop up just if you click on small volume symbol placed in task bar.
Moving volume control dial nothing will be shown, just the small icon will be changed and show one, two or three small lines depending on volume level.

My Windows 7 was installed in Drive C: in Primary partition.

I only have another drive D:, which is also a Primary partition and 200GB in size.

I need to create another drive. So, I use 'Shrink Volume' on Drive D: and free 30GB.

Then 30GB become free space and when I right click on that, I choose to 'Simple Volume' and then format it as NTFS and assign the drive letter E:. All of a sudden after I did that, all the partitions(C: and D now no longer say "Primary Partition". The blue color on top of the partitions also changed to a yellow/brownish color. My guess is that they have been converted to a Simple Volume too.

Well, then I just restart my PC and astonished that my windows 7 can't load. Only a blank screen come ahead to me. No error message given.

I use my Windows 7 DVD and in repair windows section, I use command line and by 'diskpart', i found, my all partition (C: and D: and E present their and there file system is: 'NTFS' and Type is "Simple". No drive there marked as a 'System' or 'boot'.

What should I do now, to recover my Windows 7?

Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.

When I play games, I tend to volume right down to get rid of the music etc,
but this also turns down the volume for notifications and then I don;t hear them.
Is there any way to control these volumes separately ?

Answer:How can I turn the volume off in a game I am playing without lowering my notifications volume?

Most games I've seen have an option to turn off music/effects within the game itself. Meaning you could hush them, but keep your notifications at whatever volume.

I have a truecrypt encrypted volume which is my entire hard drive.  This contains the windows OS and my files(one of many backed up encrypted copies).  I would now like to implement a 2nd truecrypt volume inside this present truecrypt volume.  Truecrypt calls this a hidden volume.  The idea is that at boot-up, you can use one of two passwords.  The one you choose dictates which (the primary or the hidden) volume.  The easy way to do this is to do it when first creating both truecrypt volumes but I did not realize I wanted to create this hidden volume until now.  All of the instructions I have seen require you to dismount the encrypted volume which will host the hidden volume first.  However I can't do that because I need that volume decrypted in order to run the truecrypt software which performs the function.

Any ideas other than decrypting the encrypted volume and starting from scratch?

Hello melb1946Does your keyboard have volume buttons? I know in my experiences I have sometimes run into similar scenarios. In my case the problem was accidentally hitting the volume button on my keyboard. How is your sound setup in Windows 7? Is your monitor set as the default sound device? Do other sound devices increase their volumes?Probably one of the best ways to isolate the problem would be to put the monitor on another computer and see if the sound continues to appear and go up.

1. Can someone tell me if I delete the volume under Computer Management>Disk Management>Delete Volume will this return it to being an 'inactive' volume?
2. Also can you tell me after deletion will I need to initialise the drive in the usual way like when one installs a new drive in a PC?

Okay so I went to hop on my desktop today, it wasn't waking up when I move mouse etc, which was odd because it was on. So I restarted it and I've had two options for windows 10 for a while now volume 1 and 4 I don't know why, I've always used 1 but now when I click 1 it just goes to black screen, monitor is awake cause my light turns blue when it is, I pressed windows key with something I forgot what button while in black screen and sound was coming through. So I restated again and went on volume 4 and that worked fine out dated stuff since I haven't used it but it was working. I would like to get back on my main volume, or at least know what the issue is.

i did a Nvidia graphic card update a day or two ago as well.
i also tried to go to the troubleshoot screen when you open windows 10 which worked fine, but when I clicked restore to a previous time-black screen- and then I tried removing everything completely clicked that option -black screen-
Thanks for help ahead of time!!

I have read a bunch of threads on multiple sites and have found some similar problems but nothing exactly like this.  Here is what doesn't work:-The windows sound on my computer does not work.  -I can go into the sound setup where you pick which sounds for different tasks (like windows startup), and the play button to preview that sound is "grayed" out.-Sound scheme is blank.  If I set the sound scheme to the "Windows Default", click apply and then click ok to close that menu, then go back into the sound scheme menu it is blank again.-There is no volume icon in my tray even though in the sound menu, it is clicked to be there.-No sound at all in IE.Here is what does work:-All other sound works fine such as playing the sound files for windows like  "Ding.wav" using windows media player.  Playing mp3's - no problem.  - Even if I go to the "Speech" icon in the control panel and listen to "Microsoft Sam" say "You have selected Microsoft Sam as the computer's default voice."  That works fine.I have downloaded new drivers for my sound device.  I have also ran the "DXDIAG" and all the sound test on there worked fine.Hope someone can help.Tired and rambling,Karl

So I recently moved my microphone/headset plugs to the rear jacks of my computer, the reason I did this was because when plugged in to the front jacks, my microphone had a white noise I couldn't get rid of, the rear jacks doesn't have this issue, but my mic volume is quiet

I think it might be a driver issue? I know its not my mic because when plugged in the front, people can hear my voice fine but there's just static noise too, and it's sort of loud

Answer:Microphone Volume is quiet, even at maximum volume

More PC info is needed. Including what sound and sound driver you have.

The front panel jacks are just an extension of the sound jacks. Usually if there is problem, the front do not work correctly but the read does. Are you plugging the mic into the correct Pink jack? If it were plugged into the wrong jack that can happen.

Hello Guys,
this is my first post on eightforums,
i recently got a new laptop "asus vivobook" that came preloaded with windows 8.
The laptop comes with a hybrid 24 GB ssd (8GB of those are for the system files, windows 8 is installed on,the remaining are in a 2nd partition for recovery)
i deleted the recovery partition and made a recovery on an 8 GB usb drive, because im dual booting a different linux os alongside windows.
I used rEFInd boot manager to boot the 2 operating systems, everything boot and works fine.
However, since the dual booting started i noticed that the windows 8 loading time has became a bit slower, when i choose to sart windows 8 the asus logo appears and under it this message
"Scanning and repairing volume (\\?\Volume{...large hex identifier..}): 100% Complete"
it stays for 2,3 seconds and then windows 8 start,i ran a chkdsk for the c drive, but that didnt solve the problem.
Is there any way to fix this issue,
Thanks.

Answer:Scanning and repairing volume (\\?\Volume...) on startup

The problem you are seeing could be caused by the Win8 "fastboot" feature. Disable fastboot and see if that fixes the problem. It can occur on dual boot and other multi partition configurations.

Since a long while ago I've been having some weird issues with audio on my HP Netbook. Whenever I listen to audio on anything that has a separate volume slider (e.g. Youtube videos or iTunes) the volume is always at maximum. If I slide the slider back to minimum the sound slowly crawls back up to maximum while the slider stays down at minimum. Strangely this only seems to happen when using headphones/earbuds. I tried recreating it without headphones but it does not appear when using the laptop speakers. I also tried changing earbuds/headphones but to no avail, the sound kept playing on maximum volume. Also to make clear, the windows volume sliders work just fine. When at minimum the sound stays at minimum. It's only on separate volume sliders that are embedded in programs themselves. Julliath

Hello sevenforums,
I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.

First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.

A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Hello, Ten Forums!

I was wondering whether it were possible to open the volume mixer instead of the volume control when left-clicking on the volume icon in the tray. At the moment I have it set to open the old classic menu, but not the volume mixer.

So, is it possible?

Thanks.

Short Story
Wave meter in volume control keeps stopping. I googled it, seems to be a virus. Performed a virus scan, came up with nothing. Did it with another anti-virus program, also showed nothing. Need help. Thanks.

Long Story
So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

Hello. Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to read this.  I`m in a crux...

Here are my computer specs:
OS: Windows 7 64bit home premium (latest windows updates installed)
CPU: Intel i5 3570K (slightly oc`d to 43)
mobo: Asus p8z77-v Pro/thunderbolt
gpu: Asus HD 7850
sound card: none (using onboard realtek)
logitech mouse
cheap keyboard
speakers: logitech externally powered (two speakers 1 subwoofer - really cheap)

I put all the parts together myself and had the system running nice - before I moved.  At the time there were no problems with sound I also had a DAC connected via USB, so I was switching between headphones and speakers depending on the occassion.

Here`s where my prob started.  I recently moved.  I carried the pc by hand to ensure it didn`t get banged up or incur any excessive shock.  Aside from the slight bobbing motion of my walking I`d believe no harm was done to the machine.

I hooked it up at the new apartment, with the hdmi cable going from ati card to the TV.  The TV plays back the sound perfectly - running the sound through the speakers though the volume is nearly inaudible over the fan sound.  I tried to play sound through various software, youtube, windows media player, vlc, and others (ensuring their respective volume sliders were at full), but it`s still quiet.

When I hooked up the PC this second time the mouse and keyboard were most likely connected to different usb... Read more

Answer:Very quiet volume although all (?) volume controls are maxed.

As you say the sound over your TV is excellent, there is almost certainly nothing wrong with the performance of your on-board sound. Without seeing them, am I right in thinking that you take a lead from the audio out at the back of your computer to the speakers, and their internal amplifier drives the sound output ?  If so, and this may be very silly, is this lead plugged into the correct socket at the back of the computer ?

Failiing that, see if you can borrow some speakers from a friend, any speakers at all will do. This will enable you to determine if the problem is with your speakers or the sound output.

Hello everyone! I run Windows 8.1, and have been having a strange issue lately. A reformat and fresh install did nothing to help this.

Seemingly at random, in my volume mixer, specific programs will drop to 10% level. If I turn the volume all the way back up, it'll only go back down a bit later. I've tried this with / without my realtek drivers. Also, I've set the option under "Communications" in playback devices to "Do nothing", and this still hasn't helped. Any VoIP programs I use I've turned off ducking, and yet the problem still persists.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

The volume button became temperament to control volume. Sometime working, mostly not. should i manage to use button to turn up, id find within minutes it was back at zero volume. Also due to having to constantly turn phone up therefore due to this and also having to press button very hard, the components in and under button have broke. Love n need this phone (birthday pressie this year (April 2014) from my son, so my phone only 7 months old.

Answer:Is updating the volume button the only way to control the volume?

Unfortunately that's the only option available today. There are workarounds but they can only be used to get the job done, not quite a user friendly feature
