CAN NOT REOPEN THE SAVED DOCUMENT DUE TO

Question: CAN NOT REOPEN THE SAVED DOCUMENT DUE TO

Hello,
I have an excel 2000 file (size: 12.5MB). The file is stored on a NT file server. The server is connected on a switch (A). The client PC that tried to access the file is on a BNC cable connection that connects to a 10Mbps hub and this hub connects to another 10Mbps hub and this hub goes to the switch (A). The problem happened when the user tried to update the Excel file. He opened it from the server. He made some modifications to the data and then he pressed the saved button. Excel 2000 begun saving (file.xls) and finally the following error message appeared on screen: "DOCUMENT SAVED SUCESSFULLY. CAN NOT REOPEN THE SAVED DOCUMENT DUE TO LOW MEMORY. PLEASE CLOSE THE DOCUMENT". If I press OK button then the document will be damaged and will not be opened again, so I tried to save it again. I pressed the save option but instead of saving it, I noticed that the SAVE AS dialog box appeared. I thought that something wrong is going on. I saved the Excel file on the SERVER using another filename (file2.xls). The saving process was successful. I closed Excel 2000 and I loaded again. I tried to open the Excel file (file.xls) but the opening failed with the following error message: "FILE file.xls is not in recognizable form ". After that I tried to open the file2.xls and I SUCCEEDED IN OPENING IT WITHOUT PROBLEMS.

Question 1: Is the problem to do with the NETWORK?
Question 2: Is the problem to do with the client PC?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: CAN NOT REOPEN THE SAVED DOCUMENT DUE TO

Day: To my knowledge this has to do with network refresh not being done often enough. But I'm not a network person, so I really have no idea!

I was working on a Word document that someone sent me by email in form of rar and saved the document. I now can't find the revised file and I have lost about 8 hours of work. Any ideas on where I can find this file? I looked in the email that was originally sent, but it is still the old file. I have also done searching on my computer with no luck. Help, I'm desperate!!! I have Word 2007. Please give me reply as soon as possible.

Answer:Cannot find the saved revised document in Word document

If you were only hitting "Save" and not "Save As" the document is likely, unfortunately, gone. You can try opening Word by itself and going through recent documents to see if it shows up. If you opened it directly from the email and the email was in Outlook, you might be able to find it in the Outlook Secure Temp Folder. To get to this folder, the easiest way is to send yourself a PDF file, open the PDF from the email then go to File | Properties and on the General tab (this is from memory, so I might be off a little bit) you'll find a location that you can click on. In this folder, you have a slight chance of finding the modified file. The only other option you have, that I can think of, would be digging through your temp folders hoping to find a .tmp or .doc file in there that has the content, but I give that about a .01% chance of happening. Good Luck!

I pulled a real bonehead move. I had opened a daily report from yesterday to use as a shortcut for today's. When I was done with the changes I clicked yes to save as opposed to saving as a new document.
Is there any way to recover the document prior to the save?

Hello, 1st post.
I have scanned a document( application form ) using a reasonably modern flat bed scanner. I have saved the document in a folder. What do I need to do in order to be able to fill in that application form and save changes for ongoing editing ?
I am using XP home edition.

I was working in Word 2000 and I accidentally saved one document over the top of another one so that the first document seems to be lost. I had saved the original document several times but stupidly saved something completely different under the same name. The programme assumes it is just a revision of the document so auto recovery and the recycle bin don't work. The computer hasn't been switched off so I was wondering if it is possible to somehow undo the last save I made.

Please help me if you can!

Answer:Retrieving a saved over document

Welcome to TSG, Ellie.

I'm sorry that it is probably bad news. You cannot unless you want to pay hundreds of dollars for potential--mind you--POTENTIAL data recovery.

However, I always like to ask:

Did you copy this anywhere else?
Did you email it to anyone and it might be in your sent items?
Did someone email it to you?
Were you at work and this was on a network drive so that you could possibly ask your network administrator to retrieve a backup copy?

I ghosted in a new 320G disk to replace my 160G disk and when I tried to save files in Excel, Word and Powerpoint got this or a similar message. I finally found someone at Microsoft who had some product knowledge and here is the simple answer.

Go to Start
type offline in the search window
Disable offline files

Yep, it was that simple.

Hi,

I opened a document from my email (Microsoft Exchange) that I had worked on from home. However, I started this document at work and had it saved in its own folder. When I opened the document from my email, I continued working on it and saved throughout the process. Now, I can't seem to find the new, saved version of the document anywhere. Why is this? Is there somewhere I can look to see if it's there? I checked my temp folder (Start -> Run -> %temp%), and it wasn't there. Please help!

I hope I can explain this adequately. I use a website (Ancestry.com) from which you can save an image on your harddrive. I went to save and the usual window opened up which was "documents library" though basically "my documents" folder - I saved to a folder within this location. When exiting the website and going to "my documents" folder, it was not there. I realized at this time, actually, that I've had this problem before. Though the file was definitely saved, it does not show up even in a search of the entire C drive. Returning to Ancestry, this time, instead of saving to the default folder, I went to C - users - my user name. This time there was a "Documents" folder in the list. Not "My Documents" - just plain "Documents." THAT was where the previously saved file was. I still cannot find it anywhere on my harddrive with a search, nor is there any plain "Documents." folder when I try to access it outside the saving process. I read this discussion on the difference between "documents" and "my documents" and it seems as if there's not really supposed to be a difference. My experience doesn't jive with that, but I have NO idea what the answer is. If it was just an Ancestry document, it would be annoying rather than important. However, my son also lost a work-related document he thought he saved in somewhat the same situation. Can someone please explain this (in somewhat simple terms) so... Read more

Answer:Saved document lost

Hello Clairespin, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

In Windows 7, the Documents feature is actually a virtual library (which is why you couldn't see it when you searched for it) where you can link to files from different locations on your computer.

For example, I have a data folder on a separate partition where I keep all my personal data. If I then right-click this folder and select Include in Library it will appear in the library I choose even though it hasn't been moved to the library.

Libraries just make it a lot easier to keep tabs on your personal files by allowing you to look in one location for them rather than several locations on your hard drive.

By default, the Documents library includes your My Documents or Documents folder and the Public Documents folder, but you can add any other folders you want.

I have a user that about two weeks ago just out of the blue had an Excel document give the error "Document not saved" when she pushed the save button. I tried everything under the sun I could think of but nothing fixed it. The next morning it just worked and we didn't worry much more about it. Jump forward to today. It is happening again to a different file. All other Excel files are opened and saved fine except for this one. We can open it up, make changes but it won't save. We can open it up and save it on other computers just not this one.

Background: She is on a Windows 7 computer with Office 2007. It is an Office 97-03 document. It has always worked before and all other documents work fine.

Thanks!

Answer:Document Not Saved in Excel

Out of curosity, are all the documents the user is having problems with, 97-03 Office documents, and the ones the user is having no issues with, Office 2007 documents?

I am usually VERY careful about stuff like this, but this one slipped past me, and I clicked "Save" before I realized what I was doing.

I created a document called "March and April" several months ago on Windows 7/Word 2007, using my flash drive. I spent 6 hours updating it at a relative's house today -- on a different computer -- using Windows 10/Word 2013. I saved it by the same name on my flash drive.

When I got home tonight, I decided to make a few more changes to it using my laptop; however, I didn't realize, initially, that my laptop still had the OLD version open and on the screen. So, when it asked me if I wanted to save March and April, it did, and overwrote all the work that was already on my flash drive.

I didn't realize I had done it until I closed the document, so Undo is not an option. I have already looked for a Previous Versions option, and it doesn't exist. I have not backed anything up. I don't have Dropbox. I've already tried Recuva. There are no shadow versions, either.
So, my question is, if I take the flash drive back over to my relative's home, open Word and then click on the "March and April" listed in Recent Documents, which version will open? The last one that was on the Windows 10 PC? Or the one that's on my flash drive? Or could I try it without the flash drive?

Why is it that when I saved a Wordpad document, it automatically saved it as a MS-DOS Application which Windows says it can't open, and is there any way I can I open it. It took me literally hours to write everything down, and even if I could remember every word, I don't want to spend all that time writing it out again. I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Answer:Wordpad document was saved as a MS-DOS Application.

Well...first of all...no document file can be saved as an application (and expect to work).

A Wordpad document should be saved as a text file, with a file extension of .txt. It can never be saved (and expected to function properly) as a file with an .exe ending, since those are programs, not documents.

What is the full filename (file + extension)?

Example: I have a file titled List, which I create in Wordpad. When I save it, it will appear as List.txt in whichever location I choose to save it.

I guess I have to wonder...where did you get the idea that you created a file and saved it as an MS-DOS application? Did you get an onscreen message stating such?

What was the exact message you received from Windows when you created this wordpad file?

Louis

According to the files listing, the file was still saved, however, only a blank document is downloaded from the files listing. If the folder "My Documents" is opened from the Desktop, the file is listed with a file size of about 19k and, if the cursor is moved over the filename, the first sentence of the original document is displayed indicating that the contents are correctly saved somewhere in the computer. We have a user running Wordperfect Legal Edition v8, on an XP machine, on a peer-to-peer network.

His Wordperfect save path is C:\MyFiles. He has timed backups at 10 min intervals going to C:\MyFiles\Backup. His assistant's pc is named Clare.

O9/3, he opened a document that was on Clare's pc. After edits, he clicked Save. The path came up in the dialog box as
"c:\Documents and Settings\Eric Larson\NetHood\c on Clare\" He wanted to change it, but it just changed back again to this again. Finally, he just clicked "save". Then he printed and closed. When he went to edit it, the file could not be found. Doing a search on his entire hard drive, and on Clare's, yielding no file.

This whole thing happened two more times, on 9/10 and on 9/13, with two other docs. Am I correct that WP first erases the file that already exists before it then saves the 'new' version that they have on their screen? So in these cases, network problems may have caused a save failure, which resulted in the original and the edited versions both being gone?

Also, a key question - there are *no* documents in the backup folder with these dates (in fact none from the past couple months), even though his edit sessions were more than 10 minutes. Why would this be?

thanks for your insight! kimmer

Answer:Document not saved - no backups to be found

I do not know what the cause of the problem may be, but I would suggest that the files be copied from clare to his machine then opened from there. Then after saving on his machine, then copied back to clare. At the very least, this will show whether it is a WP issue or a networking one.

He could also use "Save AS" and give the filee a sligtly different name to save on his local computer.

The Automatic Backup is to be able to recover if there is a crash in WP or your system. If WordPerfect is closed normally, the backup files are deleted. It was not designed to cover those people who regularly fail to save.

Hello,

My girlfriend was using an email service on IE and opened a document (via IE) and worked on changes, all the while clicking the save icon to save progress.

Where on the hard drive are these files typically saved? We've since tried to re-open the file after shutting down the computer and can't find it anywhere.

Speedy help would be very much appreciated!

Answer:Where online word document was saved to.

It's a bit unclear what the service was she was using but maybe you could try this..

Go back into ha service and create or work on another document.
Instead of clicking on the Save icon, look for a 'Save as' option.
Clicking on that option should bring up the path where the documents will be saved to by default.

Hope that helps some.

I've never had this problem before, so I don't know if it's got to do with how Windows 8 is set up, if there's a bug with OneDrive, or what, but I spent all day typing up a document- saving it several times throughout -before I saved it one last time to unplug my computer and take it to my bedroom. When I plugged it back in again, started it up, and opened the document to go over it again, the entire document was blank. I could highlight a huge chunk of the paper, but there were no words, no indentations, and no separate paragraphs. My font had been Calibri, and now it says that it's Courtier New. What's happened? OneDrive online won't even open it, and when I copy the invisible text to a new page, to see if the page itself is maybe corrupt, the only thing that pastes is one line like someone tapped the enter button on a brand new page.
This frustrates me to no end, and it's happened before. In the past, I've caught it quickly enough that I can access it on OneDrive before it updates itself online, and I can save it. But the messed up file updated itself too fast for me to salvage anything this time.
In the past, I've also had this happened when I attempt to open OneDrive too quickly after restarting my computer. The whole page is blank, because the text hasn't been loaded yet because my computer was still connecting with OneDrive... or something... but then all I had to do was wait and open the document again and it would be fine. But now? Is it really anything to do with th... Read more

I'm afraid not! When you are working on a project what ever it might be most programs are not saved to hard drive automatically. They are stored in whats called a temporary cache file until save. When the program is closed the caxhe file is released.
I have done that myself a couple of times not thinking and it's devistating. Sorry!

Answer:Recovering a LibreOffice document only saved on a now-lost USB

Hi Lilins, welcome to TSG.

If you never saved it to the hard drive and it was only ever on the USB, then it's unlikely you'll be able to find anything on the PC. There's a slight chance that a temp file might have been saved to your computer, but it's unlikely it's still there in a usable format after you've closed the file and removed the USB. But you could try searching for a phrase in the document, or the document title, to see if there's anything salvageable.

I'm using MS word 2007 on Vista. Months ago, I made a document then saved and later then whenever I open MS Word, it appears "that document" as a template. How can I erase that document and go back to a blank .doc page?

Answer:MS Word.. My saved document becomes default template

Hello sirivarin,

Welcome to the forums.

Only thing I can think to cause this is that you inadvertently saved the file with the .dotx extension. If you need to keep the file, open it and save as a .docx file, then delete the file with the dotx extension.

Please keep us posted.

I am having the following problem with data loss in Word documents.

I have a 3 person Network One Windows 98, One Windows XP Professional and One Windows XP Home. The Network is a Per-to-Per Network working using at 10/100 Switch at 100Mbs. Every thing has been working fine until the other week.

What happens is Word Documents are Created and Saved on the 98 PC in Office 200, then the user of XP Professional opens them in Office XP and changes them and Saves them to the 98 PC, then the user of the XP Home PC opens them in Office XP and saves them to the 98 PC. He then opens the file again alters the data and then saves it, under another name to the 98 PC.

This is where the problem occures, if you access the new file that has been created all the data has been lost and jumbled letters are all that is in the document.

What is strange is that, this does not happen every time, only about once every 10 documents. I dont think it is a virus as I have updated the virus scanners on the XP machines and checked them, the 98 machine does not have a virus scanner on it as it does not access the Internet. Equaly thought it could be a virus that Norton is not detecting, but it could be something else.

Could it be that your XP user is set to save documents in the later (XP) format by default? The earlier version of Word may not be able to read XP documents correctly.

Try getting your XP user to save using 'Save As ...' from the 'File' menu, when the 'Save As' dialog box opens click in the box labelled 'Save as type:', scroll down to find the file type for Word 2000 (or whatever your earlier version of Word is called) and select then click on the 'Save' button.

If this does the trick you might consider changing the default file type in XP. You should be able to do this from the 'Tools ... Options' menu - click on the 'Save' tab and change the entry in the box labelled 'Save Word files as:' (at least that's how it's labelled in Word 97, hopefully the same in XP).

I don't have XP so I'm basing this on my experience with Word 2000, Word 97 and earlier versions - all of which are used by different users around our office network. We sometimes have this problem with documents received from clients.

Hi!
I've had this issue using Overdrive Media Console and I've finally figured out why I'm unable to download audiobooks but I've got no idea how to fix it. I've written to their support but they keep saying to do the same thing which gives the same result!

What happens is - I check out a new audiobook which is about 14000 Kb (?) but when I click "download" it was a 4.20 Kb file and when I clicked save it only showed the option of saving as an .odm document.
When I looked at the option of "all files" overdrive only showed as a setup.

Overdrive support says to -
1. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options.
(Please Note - Windows Explorer can be found by clicking "Start >
Programs > Accessories", and Windows Explorer should be towards the
bottom of the list).
2. Select the 'File Types' tab.
3. Scroll down to the 'ODM' file type.
4. Make sure that the extension is set to open with OverDrive Media
Console. If it is not, click the 'Change' button and select OverDrive
Media Console.
5. Click 'OK' as needed to save the changes and exit the open windows.

That doesn't change it - it still opens as an .odm document.

Please - does anyone know how to get it to open as OverDrive Media
Console?

Thanks!

I opened a word document from an email (attachment) and worked on it and hit "Save". I am unable to access all the work, and the "Search" is unable to find the document.
Can someone guide me how I can retrieve the file?

I am a newbie and I would appreciate any help urgently.

Thanks

Answer:Word document saved in Outlook email

The easiest way to figure out where your document went is to open an email message that includes an attachment, open the attachment, then go to File--> Save As. The Save As default path is always the same for emails, and the reason the search doesn't find it is because it is hidden in a temporary internet file folder. (Something like C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK) Chances are as soon as you click Save As, you will see the document sitting in the temp folder. Then instead of saving the dummy doc you opened, simply right click on the doc you want, and hit copy. Then paste it somewhere (like your desktop for easy access), and there it will stay! Hope this helps!!

This afternoon, a user at our computer was manipulating a few Microsoft Word documents (Windows 98) and accidentally saved one of the document after having deleted all of the text in the file. She closed out of the program, and I do not know how to recover the original document.

When I open my original document, nothing is there. I cannot find the deleted data.

Is it possible to revert back to the last saved version?

Thanks so much for your help and time in advance!
- Michelle

Answer:Word document saved in deleted state - help!

Sorry to tell you this but I think that you are probably out of luck. Did you happen to ever email the document to anyone? If so, Maybe Outlook still has the file in one of its memory caches or messages. Word offers a limited degree of protection for its documents by re-saving them as Temp files but they are indeed only temporary and usually only available during the current Word session. In addition to this, since the document was saved, it is possible that the temp file that once existed was also overwritten with a new temp file of the modified document. Sorry about your lost document....believe me, it's happened to everyonoe at one point or another. My own Word disaster incident involved a massively time-consuming term paper written in college years ago.

I had two versions of a document saved on my computer; one on the desktop, one in a file folder in My Documents. I thought I was working with the document in the file folder in My Documents (we'll call it the "My Doc" file), but I was actually working with the desktop file (Desktop). I wanted to update and save My Doc while keeping the other version (Desktop) as it originally was before the update (making a sort of archive of progress with the document). But, instead of doing that, I got confused and saved Desktop as the changed, new version, and then, in a effort to make sure I was saving the right document, did a Save As and saved (and replaced) the My Doc file. So my questions are:Is there anyway that I can revert to the original document (before I Save and Save As'd the documents), in either the Desktop or My Documents? Is there an AutoRecovery file or something like that that may have been preserved before I saved both documents as the new, changed file?

Answer:How do I revert to a previously saved version of a Word document?

What type of document created by what type program? If it was word using Word 2003 upwards then you may be able to revert if you had document tracking option switched on (it isn't normally on by default). Type in document tracking in your world help menu to learn about it if you are using Office 2003 or later.

End User did the following:

Opened Gmail.
Opened Attached Word File
Worked on the word file in word for several hours.
Clicked "Save" every 10 minutes or so but did not click "Save As".
The End User then closed Word.

We are trying to find where Word would have saved that document.

Does anyone have an idea?

Hello,

I am having a nightmare. After working on a MS Word 2007 document all day (and saving it several times) I seem to have managed to accidentally save the final version as an old version, completely losing what I have been doing all day.
I started off the day with the original document (titled version 1). I had opened this and saved a new version (version 2) which I could edit. I added lots of information and pages to the version 2, saving all along. I then (luckily) printed the finished version2. BUT when I went to close down word I somehow very stupidly was not concentrating and have ended up with both files being exactly the same copies of version 1. I therefore seem to have lost all of the work I put into version2. Is there a way of retrieving this? Please please please help me! Both files were saved in My Documents. I am using MS word 2007 and have Windows XP Pro.

Help!!!!

If I save an Excel file to my server, I frequently get a 'Document not saved' error. The file does not save and a TMP file appears in the save location instead. Similarly, if I open an Excel file on the server and then save it, I get the same error, the original file vanishes and a TMP file appears. This problem occurs about 75% of the time.

I can save Excel files to my c-drive without problems. I can also copy files from my c-drive to the server, so this is the workaround. I can reproduce this problem using two different desktop PCs that are connected to my network.

Details of my setup:
Desktop PCs: MS Vista Home Premium SP1, running Microsoft Office 2007, fully patched
Server: HP MediaSmart EX470, running Windows Home Server, fully patched and up-to-date

Sound familiar anyone? Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks!

Answer:Excel 'Document not saved' error when saving to server

Eureka! After 30+ hours of wrestling with this, and with the help of users in other forums, I have fixed it. For the record, here’s what I did:

This was not a server issue. Although I had the problem on two client PCs, the problem was on both of these machines. Having downloaded and run Process Monitor, I discovered that at the time of error, there were other processes going wrong (NAME NOT FOUND errors in ProcMon). One PC had one faulty process – MSI webcam software by Sonix. The other PC had two faulty processes – Sonix webcam again and Groove (part of MS Office). By uninstalling those bits of software, the problem is fixed. As we are not big webcam / Groove users, we are happy with the solution here.

I'm going to tell the whole story incase the answer is somewhere lost in one of the steps I took. I'm writing a paper for school and it needs to be on Word 2007. I have two accesses to this type of Microsoft Word. At my boyfriend's house and at school. I started it at my boyfriends house and didn't have my flash drive, so I e-mailed it as an attatchment to my yahoo e-mail. When I was at school, I opened it and worked on it again. I saved it. Later still at school, I opened it, worked on it again and saved it. As I was saving it I realized that the one I had originally opened from my boyfriend's house was the file extention .docx and the file extention my school uses, even though they both are Microsoft Word 2007, was .doc. So I saved it twice just incase one file wouldn't open. When I got to my boyfriends house, I opened the .doc file. It came up and I finished my paper. Throughout working on it, I randomly and continually clicked the "save" button. Not the "save as". When I was finally finished, I went to upload it onto the internet to turn it in like I always do, and I couldn't find it. I of course closed the program before I realized I couldn't find it, so I couldn't try to resave it as something else. I know I saved it more than once. I looked everywhere I can possibly think of!! The recent documents, my documents, everything.

Answer:Lost But Saved Microsoft Word 2007 Document

It "saved" to a temporary folder. If you've searched the whole drive for the file name and it didn't show up, then it has already been wiped out. When working with e-mail attachments, you need to save it to a known location before making changes to it.

Welcome.

If possible, go to the email and download it again and save it to your documents folder.

All files that are downloaded first go to the temorary storage area then are copied out to your chosen location. How do you know it is "stuck" in the temp IE file area?

What is the path (if known - like c:\users\<user name>\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\temporary internet files) and what is the name of the file?

I've constructed a Word 2007 which is fine to look at and it saves fine. But it shows up as BLANK on Print Preview and when I print it out, it's just a blank piece of paper that comes out. Very alarming. (All of the data is in text boxes, and I noticed before that when I insert arrows, for example, they don't print out. Perhaps graphics are the problem? It won't recognise either graphics or text inside graphics) Advise.

I am trying to save a word document containing a .oft font as a editable template to send to the office, and the font will not display correctly when saved, it converts into a different one but still has the downloaded font name displayed. The font is installed on all computers, confused as to why this is happening; would this be related to the font license? It is listed as editable? I have read you can't embed .oft fonts in word, which i presume would solve the problem(?). I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this and embed the font or at-least save it so the font displays correctly.

Hi

I was wondering if the above can be achieved?
My scenario is I have an issues log and the file name is saved as the issue title is there a way to get the saved file name into another workbook appearing as a hyper link back to the original?

I am assuming VBA will be needed and added on to the code below which i already have, the code takes the value of C9 (the issue title) and saves it in the right folder.
Code:

If Range("C9") = "" Then
Msgbox "Please ensure you fill out the Issue Title. Thanks"
Else
Saveactiveworkbook.saveas "C:\filename\filename\ & Range("C9")"
Msgbox " Thank you, your issue has now been saved."
Endif

Hi,

Issue is with an Excel document that runs a macro to report information from another data sheet:
Raw data - 3MB
Macro - 8MB
Result file - 120MB
When the macro is complete;
1. The document shows an error when trying to save (see screenshot with error) -- Black icons show within the save window (see screenshot).
2. Copying small amounts of information takes around a minute or longer.
3. Switching tabs sometimes does not change the information on the screen (current tab stays the same but the bottom button doesn't).

Tried the following:
Office 2013 St - downgraded to 2010 to test. No change.
Tested Excel doc on another laptop (identical spec) and saw no issues.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Now we get a "Document not saved" message. There is a file created, but it has "0" bytes and cannot be opened. The message states that MS Excel cannot open that file becuase it is not a valid "xlsx file. I have run virus scans on all of the coputer using Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. Found some minor bugs that were removed. Files can be saved to individual hard drives and then they can be cut and pasted to the server. I thought the permissions may have gotten changed on th eserver, but I reset those.

I have a Microsoft Word document produced in Word 2003. This has been added to a great number of times since 2006. I have copies saved in July 2007, October 2008,December 2008 and end January 2009. These are all backups produced at the time. All were fully readable. The latest version, only worked upon last week, shows the first eight pages as normal and then the balance is pure hieroglyphics. On reverting back to each of the earlier backups they all reveal that same rubbish but starting at different pages.Clicking on the text that is gobbledygook shows that it is Times Roman Special G1. Can anybody get me in contact with Acer? I want to reopen my support case because my laptop is starting to die again, even after they "fixed" it.

Because my warranty is supposedly a week out of date I am unable to get in contact with a single person from Acer to tell them to reopen [edited for privacy] because their support clearly did not solve the problem. I am experiencing the exact same problem that led to my needing to send in my laptop. It is worsening and probably going to lead to a huge nasty crash again.

And I have reason to believe that the cause is bad hardware that my Acer Aspire Nitro was shipped with, because THIS time, when I saw the BSODs, I looked them up. I've been receiving a "Kernel Data Inpage Error" which apparently means that my memory or my hard drive is faulty. (And yes, I did the recommended things on that page. Nothing has helped or identified a problem. At all.)

This issue SHOULD be covered under warranty, not only because it is an issue that started during the year of warranty, but ALSO because Acer claimed to have fixed the issue but DID NOT, and ALSO because their warranty clearly states "Acer warrants that its Products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the Limited Warranty Period" and my computer CLEARLY CAME WITH FAULTY HARDWARE.

Answer:I need to reopen an issue with acer

Hi lsilich04,

We have to have some date for the warranty to end, but we certainly aren't interested in leaving you out in the cold less than a week out. I was able to locate your information and the US service team updated the warranty through the end of the month. This will allow you to contact and setup services as needed.

In reading your post, I would have to disagree that a kernel error means a hardware error. The Kernel is part of the core of the Windows operating system and is completely software, when that crashes, it would result in the bluescreens and lockups. When your unit was in originally, I show that memory tests and hard drive tests were done, and a reload of the operating system corrected the issue. Now, after 3 months, you're starting to experience blue screens again, and I would suspect that some corruption has occured in the operating system. With all of this said, I would suggest attempting a recovery first, see how the system behaves. If there was a hardware error, it would also fail during the recovery process.

Occasionally I'll get a message that IE has stopped working even when I don't close it myself, and all pages will close.

Not sure if this is a related problem or not, but occasionally I have emails that stay in the outbox even after sending (and stay open on the monitor after I hit "send"), but they also show up in the Sent box, so it's difficult to know if they actually were sent. I believe (but I'm not sure) that it's only happening when they have multiple photos attached, so they are large emails and I'm sending them on a 28.8k dialup modem, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help!

I'm using safe mode w networking at the moment to get onto the net right now, but in normal mode, I open IE and whilst it will initially load my home page with no problem, after a few seconds it will "Recover" or try to recover the tab, and will do this repeatedly until IE freezes. I've run MBAM and it hasn't helped, and I've tried various troubleshooting processes. The internet connection appears to be OK (I'm using wireless, not LAN). Can anyone help with this? It was working fine up until about 2pm this afternoon when I left it in standby for a few hours, but when I picked it up about half 6, I suddenly found IE wasn't working.I'm running IE8, and I'm using an XP Home Edition OS. Can someone help? Thankyou!

I am using Windows 8 with IE10 and for some weird and wonderful reason, the "reopen last session" is greyed out. I saw on the Windows 7 forum that there was a download fix for that but didn't dare to take that on for Windows 8.
Any ideas as to a simple fix for this snag?

Answer:Reopen last session greyed out

Hello Gloosecap,

The Reopen Last Browsing Session option would only not be grayed out if there was an actual last session to reopen. If you cleared your browser history after closing IE10, then there will be nothing to reopen.

If that wasn't the case, then you could use OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to enable Reopen Last Browsing Session in IE10 to see if that may help.

Hope this helps,

Hello,
I am a network admin deploying Windows Server 2008r2 with Internet Explorer 9 as terminal servers, I am having trouble with an ActiveX element in one of our internal pages. The page requests the CAB file with three files being an INF, OCX &
a DLL.
Running the page as an Administrator. Opening the page for the first time, IE hangs as it gets the CAB file and then will present UAC to allow it to install the ActiveX as an Add On for IE. Each time you come to the page after it will work fine.
Running the page as a user, Every time the user access the page after logging on IE hangs and then will put a red cross in the ActiveX section of the page. If you then close and reopen IE it will then allow the ActiveX element of the page to work fine. The
issue is that the user would have to do this each time they logged on.

Why does the page not work first time the users access the page?
Regards,
Mark

I just wrote a long post and it disappeared while trying to run that spell check on it. Very annoying.

Here, again, is my problem:

When I close IE 8 or 9 with several tabs open, and later reopen it, the option to reopen or restore the last browsing session is ALWAYS grayed out in both the menu under Tools and on the New Tab pages.

I had a nasty rootkit infection of volsnap.sys that was mostly affecting IE, which was detected and removed by ComboFix with help from MajorGeeks, just a week or two ago.

Since it was always changing the mischief it did, mostly regarding IE, I suspect that "part of it" is still on my machine.

A MS support forum led me through several steps to try to fix this, including uninstalling and reinstalling IE 9. Then they gave up and said I had to reformat my HD and reinstall my OS. I suspect that wouldn't be enough...

I really depend on this function, and have used IE for many, many years, and don't want to switch browsers. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,
Barb

Answer:reopen last browsing session grayed out in IE

Reformatting and reinstalling your OS most definitely will get rid of any nasties present on your system. If you do a clean install, as suggested, I'll be your browser's behavior returns to normal.

Answer:Reopen closed tab not working anymore

I would think it's the OS and probably not your PC. I've been having more problems and glitches than ever after the recent updates, especially with Edge. I totally reset my PC, reinstalled everything manually and all was good for about 10 days but now all of a sudden Edge has gone weird again and non of the extensions will work.... AGAIN!.... I love Windows 10 but my patience is getting very thin after constant glitches on production updates as I use it for my work/business. I've actually had fewer problems with W10M on both production and insider releases...

Hello,

I am in need of some assistance with my IE 10 browser, but the problem only happens while using the default MSN homepage.

After closing the web browser a number of times while on MSN, multiple browsers will suddenly reopen. I have noticed that when the browsers reopen, the url is a little different from the original. Here is an example of what some of the urls might look like below.

MSN.com

But when I change my default homepage to another search engine, such as google, yahoo, or bing, this problem does not occur. It only happens on the msn website.

Just today, I have discovered what is causing the browser to do this and it is the TrueSuiteService application that is part of the HP Simplepass program that is already pre-installed on my laptop. When disabled, the problem no longer occurs. However; when it is enabled, the problem will reoccur after a certain amount of times opening and closing the browser.

Here is a screenshot of the application disabled below.

But, here are two screenshots of all the applications that are enable on startup.

Either way, I am unsure of which direction I should take to solve this matter completely. Please help me.

Thank you for your assistance.

I'm glad you took my advise in asking your question here,
Hopefully someone can help soon with your interesting problem, and loaded startup menu,
Cheers.
Multiple IE 10 Browsers Reopen After Closing Default Homepage (MSN - Microsoft Community

Quote from the other thread,
I followed the instructions within the clean boot about background applications and it worked. I discovered that the background TrueSuiteService application from HP in the services tab was what was causing the problem. After disabling it, I no longer had multiple browsers opening up. However, it still boggles my mind that how come it would be this application causing this issue? Also I notice that all the HP products are labeled "Hewlett-Packard Company" in the manufacturer status however; the disabled application is only labeled "HP" as the manufacturer? Could this possibly be a hidden virus on my computer? If so, how do I remove it? end of Quote

In a situation where I have a grouped set of windows (Chrome, Skype, EtC.) and have to minimize any of them, it's a hassle to open them again. I can get windows to open the previews by clicking on the group, but anything within the previews won't work. Right click closes previews. Left click closes previews.
Mind you, I can still get to them. Alt+Tab works, as does Super+Tab. It's just annoying to always have to go that way, especially as I'm using two monitors and have my taskbar on the one that makes it less obtrusive.
I can temporarily fix the problem by restarting, but it takes forever, and I just simple don't like having to restart. I will every once in a while, but again, it doesn't fix the problem. It just delays it.

The only potential cause I can figure out is when I do have to close chrome, I tend to do it by ending the task. This ensures I can recover my tabs that I had open. I don't know if this is the cause, but it's the only thing that seems potentially related, simply due to it being done in relative close proximity to the problem showing up.

I've tried restarting the desktop management system (DWM), changing themes, disabling and reenabling grouping. Nothing is fixing it.

Again, I can get by without it... it's just a major annoyance, and a block to productivity.

Also, if it's a single window, clicking on the task bar icon opens the windows. Once it's a group, then I'm screwed.

I've upgraded to Windows 10 and so far so good. I'm not sure if this is a question for W10 or for the Edge browser...? When opening the browser, I used to be able to see the Top Sites visited, and reopen closed tabs, sometimes even the previous session, and also sites visited on my Windows Phone. Now, I only get 'Top sites' and the MSN news feed. So far I can only find settings to set to open new tabs to Top Sites or a blank page. I'd prefer to be able to easily find recently closed tabs rather than searching through history. And being able to see and open sites from Windows Phone was nice, why is that no longer available?

Answer:How can I reopen closed tabs in Edge?

I guess IE11 could sync my desktop with my other devices including my phone. Not seeing any settings for this in Edge.

Hi- I will be very happy if someone can help me olve this mystery-

I'm using windows ME and IE 6.0- when i try to save a jpeg- the only file type that i can save it as- is a bitmap. If I try to open this "bitmap" that I have save to my disk- i get the "download file" dialog box that tells me that I am trying to download the file from my own hard drive- there is no way for me to open the file. Any ideas, anyone?

Thank You!

Answer:IE saves all pics as bitmaps and won't let me reopen them

Can't really help you out much.
But there is a way to save in other formats.
In the name box add the image type to the name.

Like this Mypicture.jpg.
On the box that says file type it does not matter what it says when you add the file type to the name.

Now I have 1000's of .jpg files and only 6 .jpeg files. Some image programs will not open the .jpeg so don't use it. Use the .jpg.

Where are you getting these images from?
Are you sure you saved them as a image file or did you save the link to the images?

For example, if I use the show desktop button on bottom right of taskbar, it minimizes all windows. If I then open up one window, normally just that window opens, however if there was a fullscreen/borderless windowed application running as well, it will also restore that window. Any way to prevent this?
