missing descriptor error in Irfanview

Question: missing descriptor error in Irfanview

I'm trying to create a pdf out of 2600 images files that I have using Irfanview. First, it won't upload all of the images at once in the "mulitpage images" area. I have to up them in sections of 400 images. Second, when I do get all of them in the "selected files" area, I get a message saying "missing descriptor". What's going on? This is so annoying

Preferred Solution: missing descriptor error in Irfanview

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Since upgrading to Irfanview 4.2 when I play .mpg or wmv movies I no longer see the movie status bar at the bottom of the screen. That's the one which contains play, stop, pause, rewind, etc. The movie plays ok but I have no control (other than the Pause key on the keyboard).

If this is a setting somewhere in Irfanview, I can't find it.

I'm running XP Home, SP3 on an IBM desktop.

Answer:Irfanview missing movie status bar

I found the control I wanted. Under Options_>Properties->Video/Sound, I unchecked the "Use Direct Show for Playing..." item.

Fixed the problem.

having trouble installing an Epson WF-2530 printer onto win 8.1 machines.
i have 3 win 8.1/64 bit machines. it will install and is working on only one.
used the same installation disc, and install process, and cables with all 3 machines.
googling the problem shows plenty of stuff mainly updating drivers. done that, still no good.
Not sure why it works on only one, a generic clevo laptop w550eu.
thoughts???
the installation process stumbles when it asks you to connect the printer cable to the computer.

Was trying to plug my Toshiba 1tb External hard drive in to retrieve music off it and it wont recognize the drive. Device manager revealed the yellow triangle and error message. It works on my wifes hp streambook and also my kids stream book both are running wondows 10 like mine. I have tried nearly 10 different suggestions from google searches and have gotten nowhere. The only thing I couldnt try was turning off the usb in the power options, for some reason mine doesnt display that option. My notebook only has 1 usb port so I cant try a different port. Any suggestions or fixes?

I have two WD "My Book" 3.0 USB drives.  Previously, they both worked fine.  Now one of the two drives is getting a device descriptor request failed message.  The other drive is fine.  I have tried different 3.0 inputs on the system both in back and on top in the front.  Any ideas on why the same drive isn't working?  I have tried both on other systems and they work fine.  The other systems I have tried them on are WIN7 and WIN 8.1.

Answer:usb 3.0 drives getting device descriptor failed error

Hi there slovey  Have you, by any chance tried with another USB cable? I wouldn't make sense to change things as the device works on other systems but it wouldn't hurt to use the other My Book's cable with the problematic one just to rule this out as a potential cause. I would also check this thread and see if the offered solutions there help.  Keeping your OS, BIOS and drivers up to date is also an important part of the troubleshooting process. I'd also check if there's a new update specifically for the driver responsible for the communication between the drive and the system. Post back if you need more info! Captain_WD.

That is the message I am getting. I've searched high and low for possible solutions that may have worked for others, but not me.

I'd like to boot to my Windows XP Home Edition SP3 CD so I can load Recovery Console, but result is a blank black screen after the brief message: "The system is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration." (No HDD activity)

The system is a Dell Inspiron B130/1300 laptop, with a hidden Symantec Recovery Disk partition that can be loaded, but none of the so called "recovery points" are found. (Not sure that any were created because that software was not activated) While in that attempted local disk access to the C: (windows install) drive tells me that C:\ is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.

Instinct tells me that the HDD is finished... but why won't the Windows CD load? I've tried multiple Windows CDs to no avail. Other CD's will boot. Something is fishy to me.

Answer:Solved: PBR for descriptor 2...done. A disk read error occurred

Other boot cd's do not inspect your hardware like XP cd does, it is finding a problem it cannot deal with when detecting the hardware configuration.

Here is an article on how to backup your data, I suggest doing it before all is lost.

I'm attempting to help my daughter fix her USB issue, so the information I have about the computer is minimal at this point. The computer is and HP Pavilion a6710t Desktop PC. It has a Foxconn motherboard. Here's the story, She's been using this computer for a couple of years, was running Window Vista. One day her wireless mouse and keyboard quit working. I gave her a usb mouse to try to no avail. The message when we plug any USB device that previously worked on her computer is 'Unknown sub device, device descriptor request failed'. After doing much research online and attempting a multitude of fixes from online sources I had the bright idea (being the computer genius that I am (NOT!)) to update her Operating system to either Windows 7 or Windows 8. She chose Windows 8. Here I'm thinking if I wipe the hard drive, do a clean install of Windows 8, the problem would be fixed. Boy was I wrong, still no USB ports are working. Makes no sense to me unless it's the hardware itself. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Answer:USB ports inoperable, error says, device descriptor request failed.

Based on what you have tried, it does seem to be a hardware error. One more thing to try is check the CMOS battery's voltage. It's usually a CR2032 rated at 3 Volt. Carefully remove it after unplugging the PC from the socket outlet, and check the voltage with a digital multimeter.

I use IRFANVIEW to play my MIDI files because it loads very quickly and doesn't seem to use a lot of resources....

However, after I download some of the MIDIs, I would say about 20% or so, I will try and play them and I will get an error message saying something about an incorrect header or format.

I enclosed a screenshot of a file that produced one of these error messages and I was wondering if anything seems unusual about it and why this keeps happening.

Does it appear to be an IRFANVIEW problem or something in the way the file is named?

Thanks

I recently purchased a digital camera and downloaded IrfanView to edit the pictures. I also downloaded all of the IrfanView plug-ins. This morning I tried to email myself a picture that I had opened up in IrfanView, using the IrfanView Email Plugin window. When I clicked the Send button on the window, I got the "Sending mail" message, but after a moment the message changed to "Error! 554--SMTP server not ready for data." I am wondering how I can fix this problem.

I had sent only one picture before the above one, and that also was a picture that I had opened in IrfanView and that I sent the same way as above. Though the "Sending email" message did not change to the Error message, it stayed there for over ten minutes before I closed out the window. I thought that the message never got sent, but in fact it did. When I clicked the Send button to send this first picture, I got a message asking me to configure my SMTP server. So I clicked the Setting button in the IrfanView Email Plugin window and got a Settings dialogue box. That box called for me to choose either MAP1 or SMTP Server (Outgoing) protocol. I have no idea of what the difference is or when I should use one or the other, but since the message I was responding to referred to my SMTP server, I chose that one. I identified the server as "smtp.email.msn.com" because that appears in the Properties box for my MSN Mail Server.

Now, when I go to Outlook Express, I get a window telling ... Read more

Answer:(Resolved) IrfanView--Email--SMTP Error

Hi! I'm using InfranView also, but I only use it for adjusting my images, etc. My guess is your pop server address as changed because of a plug-in. Check with your internet provider for the correct address. If not, I wouldn't use the InfranView for sending images. Use the outlook directly and attach the files. That should work.

Answer:Loading PBR for descriptor 2... done "A disk read error occurred"

hi, do you have a diagnostics partition on your inspiron, on mine I press F12 as the computer boots. If you do, run the extended test on the hard drive. At this point I should ask if your important files/pics etc are backed up as any test on a failing hard drive is intensive. You ask if your hard drive "just crashed", have you tried restarting to see if you have access.

Bear with me, as I'm not the smartest when it comes to computers.

Yesterday my desktop computer froze up when I tried to check my email. I shut it down and restarted it, and when it came back on I got a black screen with the message "Loading PBR for descriptor 2....done". I can't get out of this. When I did manage to, I got the screen with the XP logo and the computer acted like it was going to start back up, but sat there forever "loading" and nothing ever happened.

Is there any way to fix this problem without losing any of my data? I do have most of my stuff backed up, but there are some recent things that I haven't gotten to yet, mostly pictures. Since I don't really know what I'm doing, should I take it to someone to fix it, or is this something that I can do on my own? I've been doing some research, but it's all pretty much Greek to me. Thanks in advance.

HELP.
Was troubeshshootig a slow pc (ongoing for 6 weeks) and decided to back up and possibly reinstall XP.
Bought USB external drive. Was FAT32, converted it to NTFS (Have a few video files over 4GB). Selected the files to copy, and copied them over.
Used up 100GB of 160GB external drive.
Did the copy in Safemode.
Went to reboot and got black screen, with blue band across the top that says WWW.DELL.com.

The screen says:

Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done.
A disk read error has occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt_Del to restart

Doing that just brings me back to the screen with the error.
Tried changing the boot order of the drives, no help.
Ran the DELL hd utility (Maxstor). Result say Fail Return Code: 7.

Could the drive have really just failed with no indication(or noise)?
Or, could the slow responding pc been my indication all along?
Or, is something I did above related?

I did not complete my back up.
Any suggestions how to boot up and get the rest of my data?
Thanks.

I have a Dell PC with Windows XP. It freezes on startup at the message "Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done". The only options are F2 and F12. I did some research and found that some people had success booting from their recovery disk and entering the "fixboot" command (Cyberspacesupport.com - loading PBR for descriptor 2...done.? - Free computer help to find and fix computer problems.). Before I can enter "R" for repair though, I get an error saying that intelide.sys is corrupt, setup failed.

What are my options? I need everything back to the way it was. Doing a clean wipe is not an option.

Thank you!

Answer:Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done

Even if we can recover from this the first and most important job appears to be to secure your data, as you say that doing a clean install is not an option.

Therefore do you have data that you need to copy to an external hard drive or to flash drive and then to another computer

Good evening, all.

I have done a fair amount of searching on this topic and am at a loss. My PC is a DELL Dimension E310 desktop. I was removing some unneeded programs using the add/remove programs utility and the computer needed to restart. Upon restarting, the DELL screen came up, followed by a black screen with a blue band that says "www.dell.com." Below this, there is a line that says, "Loading PBR for descriptor 2... done." Below this there is a line that says, "A disk read error occurred," and below this, there is a line that says, "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." Upon doing so, the computer goes back to the 1st Dell screen, then back to the last screen mentioned.

Can someone please help me get through this so I can at least recover the files that are one the hard drive? I am afraid to take any of the advice on various forums and websites because I have a lot of files that have not been backed up. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!

Answer:Loading PBR for Descriptor 2... done.

I've seen things like this happen when a hard drive goes bad. You need to pull the hard drive out of the computer and hook it to another working machine as a slave drive. Check your jumper on the hard drive. If you can get the computer to boot up while your hard drive is connected, you can use it to search through your files and copy the documents you need to another device. You could also go into your BIOS from that Dell screen and make sure your computer is recognizing the hard drive. That's half the battle.

My mothers Dell desktop is 2yrs old and won't boot up. It comes to a black page and says "Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done, disk read error, press Ctrl+ALt+Delete". If I press CAD it just sends me right back to the same message. I've tried f11 and nothing I do helps. It won't allow a fixboot or safe mode. I'm sure I am going about this all wrong. Can someone give me a step by step of possible solutions? I understand it may be a problem with the hard drive and I would like to check all other possibilities before I go that route. Also, i am not worried about losing data.

Hi,

After reading several posts I can see that may be a hardware issue.
I have managed to get the diagonostics to run - so we are at the blue screen that reads Pre-boot System Assessment Buid 4106. I feel this is going to take sometime to run and when it comes back with any message I am not going to know what to do with it?

Does any one have expertise in this area?

HiI have a Dell Dimension 3100C which has been working fine for the last few yearsUnfortunately this morning, it decided to throw a wobbly  - it starts to boots up and very quickly flashes on the Screen "Loading PBR for Descriptor 2 ... Done" and then the screen goes black and then appears to hang.I have the Dell Repair CD and am able to get to the DOS prompt.I tried both CHKDSK /p and CHKDSK /r - the first time I ran/ r it said there were one or more errors - I ran /r again - no suggestion of errors and /p no suggestion of errors. I then run FIXBOOT and reset the boot order to Hard Disk first and I get the same PBR error and a black screen.I also have the Dell diagnostic disk and ran the quick (20 minute) version and it came back clean. I did not run the full diagnostic as I did not have time - is it worth doing this?On this and other sites it suggests that the hard disk is a problem - but why if CHKDSK is not reporting errors? The suggestions then vary from scrapping the hard disk to running a restore which is going to wipe the hard disk. This seems very drastic!Late last year on another PC I was able to solve an unmountable boot sector by doing the CHKDSK and FIXBOOT following advice from your Guru Allan. Before I took his advice, there were suggestions that I would have to replace the disk or wipe the disk - this drastic action was not necessary.http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,113401.15.htmlKind regardsWillybolly17

Answer:Loading PBR for Descriptor 2 .... done and then it freezes

Checkdisk looks for certain software issues and bad sectors, but it doesn't know about the mechanics of the hard drive. I'm guessing the drive is shot.

Hi there,
I have got an issue with a custom USB 2.0 device (with our own firmware) regarding enumeration and driver installation in windows 7 using USB 3.0.
The devices uses the BOS descriptor (OS 1.0) to provide a compatible ID (RNDIS) for selecting the appropriate inf file / driver (rndiscmp.inf / rndiscmp6.sys). This works fine in Windows 7 using USB 2.0 and also in Windows 8 using USB 3.0 or 2.0 (on many
different installations). But it does not work in Windows 7 using USB 3.0. Neither using intel nor renesas USB 3.0 driver stack. Analyzing USB traffic I can observe that the Descriptor is requested from the device. Hereupon the compatible ID is sent to the
PC but it can not be found in registry and hence it is not used to select the driver automatically (evaluating setupapi.dev). The driver must be chosen manually then.

Actually the USB requests are the same as in the USB 2.0 case but something goes wrong using USB 3.0.

Does anybody have any idea? Or any additional debugging possibility?
Thank you very much!
Martin

Most of the threads on this error are old, (2015) so I am starting a new one. I only notice it when I happen to be in the device manager. I have no problems with any of my connected USB devices (that I have observed).

I have tried uninstalling it, and rescanning and it pops up again, so apparently it is something that is connected. Without disconnecting All of my USB devices one at a time (which I am wont to do, as it is not bothering me, other than that it is there!) It has been there for quite a while, so apparently is not anything new being connected.

Is there no way to identify WHAT is connected to this port, or even what port it is?

BTW, it only shows up in the USB Controller section, no matching errors in any of the devices themselves!

Curiouser and curiouser...

Answer:USB device descriptor failed

Hi.
In Device Manager, right-click the problem device and select Properties. In the General Tab, it gives the error code. In the Details tab, use the arrow down to select Hardware Ids. Then google the ID to identify. Could be an internal USB connection to something like wifi, BT, or card reader. Those cables do go bad sometimes.
Example: USB\VID_046D&PID_0A04&REV_0007

Hello
I have a USB device (X.Vision PCDVB-3100)
It work properly in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
But now in Windows 10 when I connect it to USB port, The Windows give me this error:

?Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.?

How I can solve this problem?

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed

Probably the USB port cannot provide enough power to the device, so Windows cannot properly identify it. Try connecting it to a different USB port. If problem persist, the only solution is to use a powered USB hub that will provide the power necessary. Also some devices have problem working on a USB 3.0 port (blue), try using a USB 2.0 port (black).

Hi Pineman100
When you say you reinstalled, do you mean you installed the programme over itself. Or did you uninstall it first and then do a clean install? That's the way I would go.

I installed his HDD in an External USB 2.5" HDD case. Plugged it in his desktop computer and started copy files. Everything seemed to be fine but then we found the problem. All his documents were stored in his My Documents folder under the user profile "Owner". I can access the folders under the Administrator, Guest and All User profiles but when I click on the Owner profile it says "Access Denied" The old computer had no passwords or security set on anything. I decided to run Norton's Disk Doctor to see if the Hard Drive had any errors. It found errors with the security descriptors. It said it fixed it but it didn't. Now I can open the Owner Profile folder and see all his sub-folders but it gives me the same "Access Denied" error on all the folders and shows they are empty. He has about 15GB stored in these folders. I also ran Scan Disk to try to repair the Security Descriptors with no luck. Is there another way to repair the Security Descriptors so I can recover his data. Thanks in advance!!

Let me start out by saying that I've googled the shit out of this problem, tried several things, and nothing worked.

I have a D-Link USB 2.0 Hub that I got about a week ago. It's been working awesome up until recently. It's a plug and play device, however windows is failing to recognize it, and thus making everything I have plugged into it unusable.

In the 'Device Status' box it says:

Code:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

And in the 'Events' tab, there's a few listed, I'm not sure if they are much help:

Hey, I have some errors in device manager like port reset failed and device descriptor request failed.Long striy short: I have already tried all the standard answers several times. I dont know wich device is/was the one who caused the error. It coud be mine (already contected everything I have) or of some other person. My probem is not the "problem"... What really annoys me is windows keeping refreshing the device manager and with that causing my pc to freeze for a second randomly. I have unsinstalled the device, plugged the pc off power for minutes, tried to remove with usbdview and usboblivion and all the stuff with energy options! The thing is that an error loke that seems to not be a big thing, but I cant use my PC anymore. I need windows to stop trying to reset the usb port or whatever it does, just forget about the error/device. Has anyone an idea how to get rid o this? Thank you and hope the answers will help other too!

Answer:Device Descriptor Request failed

Hi timniko. Welcome to the TenForums @timniko

Can I ask when did this problem start? Had you added a device?

Have you tried resetting your BIOS? (Before you do please ensure you document or know current customizations?)

Have you check manufacture's site for a newer BIOS? Not recommending you update BIOS but it would be nice to know if they have a newer version. Updating BIOS has its own risks which can result in a "Bricked" machine.

I assume this problem happens with all external USB devices removed, correct?

Is it possible to get Hardware id's from device manager for problematic devices?
Ken

I did a system restore on my Dell Dimension 3000. After restarting the computer the following screen appears:

Loading PBR for descriptor 1 ... done.
Starting Windows 95...

The computer gets stuck on this screen.

My Dell system never came with Windows 95, it had Windows XP.

I've tried everything. I installed 2GB of memory, inserted a copy (not orignial) of a windows xp installation cd after selecting boot from cd and nothing happens. I called Dell and they won't offer any support since my desktop is no longer under warranty.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Hi all I have a Ideacentre K430 running on win 8.1. Used to run on win 8 After i upgraded to win 8.1, my WD My Book 4TB external Harddisk shows the problem as shown above. Used to be running fine and it can work on other win 7 or 8 terminals. Any way i can solve this. I have contacted WD but they say its not a device problem so they cannot help. I contacted Mricrosoft after some remote troubleshooting they told me i need to download the latest motherboard drivers which i did. But all solutions do not work. I tried googling for solutons and have tried microsoft message analyzer also to no avail. I am running out of options. Anyone able to help? Thanks in advance. RegardsAndrew

I have still couple of hundred old DOS and Win95 formated floppies from which it would be nice to recover some data, without going back to DOS or Win95 :) Thus, it would be nice to know if there is any "easy" way to bypass the media descriptor byte check from bios parameter block in Windows XP. With easy I mean e.g. already existing third party floppy drivers working also with usb floppy drives or some detailed information how and where the check is done.

Hi everyone,

Just found this forum. Hopefully there's someone here who could shed some light on my problem.

Several of my computers have security descriptor errors as reported by Norton's Disk Check and Microsoft's Check Disk. Each one goes through the process of rebooting the machine and attempting to "fix" the erros, but regardless of which utility I use, neither one is able to fix them.

One of the computers is a fresh install. The other one I've been using for a while. I've ruled out physical problems with the hard drives (using HD Tune) and ruled out RAM-related problems using Memtest.

What am I overlooking here? Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Help! Security descriptor errors driving me insane

hello & welcome to TSF,

lets try this for starters to see if we can get your chkdsk working right so that the issues may be resolved brfor going into more intense trouble shooting or tacktics

steps
------------------------------
now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties
----------------------------
also
----------------------------

Insert your XP disk and boot from the disk
Select recovery console
follow the promts until you are in DOS
C:\windows
at the above prompts type FIXMBR

Why?
This will fix the Master Boot Record for Windows it will ask you if you are sure and follow the prompts

once complete type CHKDSK /r
that is CHKDSK space /r
this will check the disk and repair any bad sectors

Windows 10 Home

Hi, I just bought a new HDD today and freshly installed windows 10 and have ran into this problem: when I plug in my wireless XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad from Speedlink I get the "Unknown USB Device (Invalid Configuration Descriptor)" error. I'm adding the screenshots.

This device worked perfectly on windows 7 yesterday, so the controller definitely isn't damaged physically and it does work on a different PC(windows 7).

Hi all,

(Unknown USB Device - A request for the USB device descriptor failed)

Massive problem I have encountered since buying a new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1

I have 3 external USB storage devices - 1x Corsair "Slider" 64GB, 1x HiTachi Touro 750GB, & 1x HiTachi 4TB external drive. ALL drives are coming up with the same error message and are not being recognized by Windows 8.1

The strange thing is, I also have another 2 PCs - one with Win7 and one with WinXP and the drives work without issue.

I've spent the last 4 days scouring the net looking for answers, and thus I am here hoping someone can shed some light as to why ALL of these drives do not work on this new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1?

Even stranger still is I have other thumb drives, a cheap Transcend 32GB (which is USB3.0) and a few cheapo (USB2.0) drives of various sizes by Strontium, Lexar and so on which work perfectly.

But the one that has me o.O is an expensive 64GB thumb drive called the Mach Extreme which also works perfectly with this laptop???

So all up 2x HiTachi drives & 1x Corsair thumb drive are not working and its driving me bonkers!

If no drives worked at all, then I would be seeking the manufacturer for maybe a faulty component. Dodgy USB ports, or maybe a motherboard problem. But having a handfull of drives, of various makes, sizes and both USB3.0 - 2.0 fully working leaves me scratching the old chrome dome as to what could be the issue

You can mark this thread as SOLVED!

Okay here's the fix that worked for me, maybe it will work for you.

I've always updated drivers, WinXP, Win7 and so on, the same way - download the driver, go into device manager and select browse, then point windows to the downloaded driver to update the necessary files. Its always worked that way for me for as long as I can remember.

Not so it appears with windows 8 - for some strang reason.

For me I had to update to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers, but instead of the tried and trusted methos above, you simply hit the setup.exe and let windows 8 do its thing. Believe it or not, but this fixed the issue.

Yes I had already updatd to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers using the device manager method, and yes windows "did" update ...someting??? But the USB devices were still showing the Unknown USB Device error. But using the setup.exe fixed the everything and all my USB devices are now working perfectly with Windows 8.

How, why, who knows, but I hope this works for others with the same problem.

Good afternoon, all.

Answer:Loading PBR for Descriptor 2... done., Need assistance with booting Windows

If your first priority is your files (they should be regularly backed up, but that is another conversation for another day!), then take the disk out of this machine, mount it in an external enclosure (you will get these at places like tiger direct, best buy, etc.), connect it to a working computer by USB cable and copy over all the data you need to the working computer.

After that, put the disk back in the original computer. Then see if following the instructions here resolves the issue.

Hi,
I have an USB device (an embedded system that I am developing) and associated driver.
It has one interface with two endpoints (BULK IN and BULK OUT) and control endpoint.
When I connect that USB device to PC, then device driver is getting associated with device and I am able to use the device.

Now I have updated USB device descriptor to have one more interface (all other information like VID, PID are same and also existing interface is not altered). Now it has: one control endpoint, one interface with BULK IN and BULK OUT and another interface
with BULK IN endpoint.

When I connect this USB device with modified device descriptor, USB driver is not getting associated and giving me error code: 10 (0xA).

Device driver software is from 3rd party.

Now I am not sure if error is thrown by windows kernel or device software.
Please help me in debugging this.

Any log files/events that can be enabled when device is connected and how driver is loaded, what checks are performed by kernel to load the driver etc (I believe it only looks at VID and PID).

FYI: Same setup works on Linux environment (looks liek linux just ignores this additional interface added)

Rgds,
Venkat.

Answer:CHKDSK security descriptor verification complete

Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

Is this a desktop or laptop?

When you get the BSOD, what is the full message? is this before or during using Chkdsk?

Possibles are a hardware error, faulting HDD, RAM or other components, so try the below....

1. Can you boot into Safe Mdoe (F8 at boot) ok and run Chkdsk but run it from a command (CMD) prompt and use the command chkdsk /r

2. also run and again from the CMD prompt

fixboot X: (where X: is the hard drives you have installed in your PC, as you may have C: D: E: etc)

Fixmbr and you need to do this from the Recovery Console

3. Test your RAM (memory) and do this with the individual sticks of ram in at once (so one at a time) Memtest

But more information on what issue you're having would help too, as when did this start happening, just today or for a while, was it just after you installed new hardware and if so what, was it after installing new software and again what?

I have a flash drive that I previously used in public computer lab (where many viruses linger) the other day to do my work. As I got home, the flash drive isn't working anymore, saying "USB Device not Recognized". I also noticed that it really took me a while to finally, safely remove it from the computer lab's PC. So I actually wonder if it actually removed my flash drive properly.

On Device Manager, it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
On the Properties, the device status says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) -- A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

My flash drive is a Kingston Flash Drive DataTraveler (DT100) 16GB, and my PC is running on Windows 8.1.

Things I have tried:
- Shut down my PC, unplugged power and removed battery, waited for a while, booted my PC and try plugging in again.
- On Device Manager, uninstalled it and scanned for hardware changes, it still returns as "Unknown USB Device".
- On Device Manager, I clicked "Update Driver Software..." and it returns me a message saying "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
- Unfortunately, when I visited Kingston's website to check if there is driver for this specific flash drive, there isn't any... "There are no downloads or drivers available for this product".
- Used Windows 8's Troubleshooting tool. It only detected my problem, but was un... Read more

Answer:USB not recognized (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

if you have tried on other systems using different OS then the error is normally because of issues with the item not the PC , it might be 'confused' or have corrupted data or be faulty.

If you have the data still stored elsewhere...then you may be able to reset the flash drive and see if it recognises it then.

I'm not sure if there is a reset switch anywhere on that stick.

Hi All,

Thought i would make this thread as i see others with the same issue. I have just built a new PC and i get the following error randomly.

"The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

The issue with this is i don't actually connect anything to the PC. the message just appears randomly then fixes it self on reboot only to happen again later.

I have reinstalled USB Drivers and the issue persists.
I only have two devices connected to the PC:

It's a vBull setting that they have on. I think it's to prevent ultra-long lines of code from resizing the window, but don't hold me to that. It's just something that you have to watch out for.

Hello Ladies & Gents.

I would like to ask for your assistance on this slightly annoying problem.

I have 1 pair of Razer Megalodon USB headphones, on the start up of Windows 8.1 these headphones are not detected correctly. The only proof I have of this is in the device manager displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

(Please see attached screenshots)

Once the device is disconnected and reconnected device manager then displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
USB Composite Device

The device then shows in "Audio inputs and outputs"

Cheers,

Mr Collective

Answer:Razer Megalodon - (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Razer is well known for BSOD drivers and problems, otherwise. (And taking very old drivers, changing nothing at all, giving it a new date and then claiming "Compatible!" with new OS.)

Perhaps give a shot with uninstalling their software, rebooting, the re-installing.

Make sure using the latest.

When all is said and done, you might just have to live with it.

Can't hurt to make sure chipset drivers are up to date. If Intel chipset, search their driver site for "Inf"

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Lenovo B50-70 Laptop. It has 2x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 ports.

It started when I removed a USB mouse from the USB 2.0 port. I had a message flash up saying
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
If I go to Device Manager and 'Uninstall' the device, then plug the mouse back in and 'Scan for Hardware changes' it works. However whenever I unplug it I get the same error. I've tried doing them same thing and plugin in other devices, (my phone, a memory stick) and The error comes back. If nothing is in the port and I scan for hardware changes I get that message again.

Any ideas how to fix? It is almost as if the machine doesn't detect the mouse is unplugged and thinks it's gone wrong. The USB 3 ports are fine.

I've tried...
Checking for Driver/bios updates.
Cleaning the port.
Uninstalling all USB Drivers and reinstalling

I'm designing a USB device with Microchip's MLA v2015-08-10 on a PIC24FJ128GB202(http://www.kynix.com/Parts/158263/PIC24FJ128GB202-I%2FSP.html). The device works as expected on my Fedora 23 Linux system. It enumerates and is recognized as a HID device.
On Windows it does not enumerate. I tried a Windows 10 laptop and Windows 7 in a virtual machine on my Linux system. Both say: "A request for the USB device descriptor failed." (Code 43)
When I analyze the traffic with Microsoft Message Analyzer I find this error: Get Device Descriptor - USBD_STATUS_STALL_PID
I find no solutions online and have no idea where to look next. I assume my code on the PIC is working fine since it runs on Linux. It's clearly not a driver issue since I can't even get the device descriptor. And it isn't a problem with the system since it fails on different devices with different Windows versions.
Does anybody have an idea where to continue my search? An explanation of the differences in USB device enumeration between Windows and Linux might already help a lot.

Hi, I have been going crazy, Windows 10 does not recognize my DS3 controller as a Playstation 3 controller, it shows "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" every time I plugg it in, so I can't install any of the softwares that make PS3 controllers work like x360 like MotionInJoy or SCPToolkit because these software can't see my controller in order to apply the custom drivers on, has anyone run into this?

Question: irfanview

I use irfanview for resizing pictures etc. Can you use this program to compress? I know for instance in photoshop you can compress the picture with out losing much quality so it downloads quicker on the a website. A mate did it for me. Irfanview does not seem to do this. At least I can't find it if it does. There is so much software out there its confusing. Each time I get a new bit of kit, loads of programs come with it. I like to use just the viewer for resizing etc and store the pictures in a normal folder. Whats the best approach and simplest without all the different software choices?

Answer:irfanview

You can use irfanview to send images in email.

Question: Irfanview

When I download my digital pictures from the compact flash card they go into Adobe Album and if want to enhance them I go into Adobe Elements. They are then saved to My Documents. After a number are saved I will move them to a new folder on my second hard drive. It is used to store all the pictures. Someone had send some pictures via E mail . My wife had a hard time opening them. I had read that Irfanview was what is needed. I downloaded it and it seemed to try to take over the pictures in my documents. I removed it because I was afraid it was going to interfere with things. Can anyone shed some light on Irfanview?

Answer:Irfanview

Irfanview can be set to "associate" itself with any number of file types,...it is primarily just a "viewer". It opens quick and allows simple changes to a file. Each file can still be opened and viewed within other graphics programs. For example: If you associate all of your .bmp files with a complex graphic editing program, then that program will have to open for you to view each .bmp.
I just think of Irfanview as a "quick peek" viewer ( although it has a surprising number of great features built in).
I use it for all graphic file types, and have had no problems with it for years now.

Question: Irfanview help

I usually use this great programme for re-sizing photos but recently had a go with the crop/cut facility with success.I open the pic. click on it to make a moveable rectangle and drag that around the part I want to keep. Click on Edit and chose Cut - leave selection and then File, save as and give it a new name. However, trying this again I am left with my selected bit, plus a black surround of the parts I don't want and the file size remains just as it was.I think I must be missing something in the chain of instructions this time.Any help would be appreciated.

Question: Irfanview v.395

I have just updated to the above. One change I have noticed is the ability to sort a folder of images:
1. 'by Name (ascending)' (which I am used to) or
2. 'by Name (ascending.XP style)'
Also for descending.

As I don't use XP will someone please explain the difference?

IrfanView Just seen this & wonder if it is any good? I nearly downloaded it but the site was so full of animated graphics I thought best to check first.

Answer:IrfanView

I have been using it for a while now. Great free program for picture editing if your needs are as basic as mine.

There are many sites you can download it from, and I can't vouch for the one you speak of, of course. But the program itself is a good one.

Okay, I've seen Irfanview advocated as a good useful program many times on this board, and even found myself advising other people to use it. I've downloaded it and it's sat there on my desktop begging me to install it.
However, I've never used it myself.
Bearing in mind that I am running Win XP, what can it do for me?
I read through the "What is Irfanview?" page on the download site, but it didn't really put me in the picture (so to speak).

So what can it do? What do you people use it for?

Thanks as usual.

I keep getting a "Cannot find server error". I have tried changing my settings and that hasn't helped, even changing my connection options hasen't helped. Could the site be that busy or is he just having trouble? Any one else having trouble going to the site? Thanks.

Question: Irfanview

I use Irfanview as a photo editor. My only hate and it is a big one is all photos are huge. I have tried to reduce them using resize. But each image has to be resized individually. Any way to open all images in a viewable size without having to do a resize on each. If not, if I remove Irfanview and replace it with another photo editor, will I still have large images, (which I don't want)

Do i really have to install quicktime and realplayer ? i REALLY didn't want to install them.

I know that, it is really bad, but what i wanted was a movie player wich would play .mov and realplayer files, and i think the irfanview with all the plug-ins will do that... but i can't view the movie wich i said (big half-life 2 preview)
