Is my card reader compatible with SDHC Cards?

Question: Is my card reader compatible with SDHC Cards?

I plan to purchase a CANON S5IS digital camera, and someone recommended that I use SDHC memory cards. I recently bought a Digital Concepts 21-in-1 Card Reader/Writer; however, I don't see the SDHC designation shown on the package. The only SD cards listed are: SD; SD-Ultra; SDC; and Mini SD. Will this reader read an SDHC card as well? Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Is my card reader compatible with SDHC Cards?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My w500's sd card reader doesn't seem to be recognizing SDHC cards at all. (As in: pop the card in, nothing happens. No change in Explorer, nothing.)  I've got the latest Ricoh drivers from the Lenovo website installed.  I'm running Windows 7. I've found a few posts online from people who've had trouble with SDHC cards, but no solutions yet.Unfortunately, I've only got an SDHC card available for testing currently.  (I know it works, as I've been using it in my camera.)

Answer:w500 card reader & sdhc cards

Hello mate, How big is your SDHC ? My T510 is working well until 16Gb never tested more.

Answer:Satellite Pro A120-160 SD card reader SDHC compatible?

As far as I know the Satellite A120 supports SD cards up to 1GB.
So SDHC cards are not compatible.

If you want to read SDHC cards on your notebook, you need an external card reader (USB).

My card reader doesn't seem to be able to read the high capacity SD cards.  I had a similar issue on a desktop but was able to get a firmware upgrade which solved it.  Has anyone solved this yet?

Answer:Media card reader on W500 and SDHC cards

The media card reader in my W500 reads the high capacity SD cards just fine. Perhaps check the Lenovo drivers website (W500 Driver Downloads) to make sure you have the latest driver.  The media card reader driver has the word 'Ricoh' in it. Michael

Well yeah, the problem is in the title. It's a 7764 with the standard SD/MMC reader. I had Vista Ultimate and tried to fix the issue for some time (changing drivers, installing MS hotfixes), but it didn't help, so I thought the last chance would be with Win 7.Now I have Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit and the issue stayed the same. After the card is inserted (in my case it's a SanDisk Extreme III 16GB class 6 SDHC, but I've read that other people with 16GB cards had the same problem), the system doesn't react in any way. Actually in Vista sometimes the Safely Remove Hardware icon appeared for a second just after inserting the card then disappeared, in Win 7 there's no reaction whatsoever). Tried to force the system to see the card, scan for hardware changes, refresh etc, no result. Any ideas? It's one of the best cards on the market, and definitely not some no-name, so why won't my X61 see it? It's supposed to be SDHC compatible (and reads my 8GB SDHC fine). Thanks!

Answer:SD card reader won't recognize 16GB SDHC cards (or bigger probably)

I had a similar problem with a card reader on a different laptop. I contacted TI (Texas Instruments - the card reader maker) and they indicated there was a limit on the card reader (actually the driver) and it would not read larger cards. The only way you will probably make it work is to get a driver update for the card reader that will read 16gig cards.

Hi,

My satelite A100 does not support my sandisk 4 GB SDHC card.
"normal" SD cards are not a problem with the internal card reader, and there are no problems with the sandisk 4 GB SDHC card using a external card reader.

is there a software solution?

regrads,
Itock

Answer:My Satellite A100 does not support SDHC cards with the internal card reader

I do not have time to read users manuals for your notebook model but all supported cards can be listed there. I suppose SDHC is not listed and not supported.

I do not know what you mean with software solution but, as far as I know, update for multimedia card reader is not available.

Have had problems with two 8gig SDHC cards in a row when attempting to access the card via the built-in reader on the laptop. Both times this is what happened:For a few minutes I can access the card and view the photos, but after some time the pictures turn grey and attempts to access the card again lead to a message that card needs to be formatted. I would hate to lose the data on these cards. It has already happened twice which leads me to think that there is something wrong with the built-in reader, since the cards have worked fine on other computers. Has anybody had this problem? What can I do to rescue the data? I bought an external reader for the cards now to be on the safe side, but I would hate for this to happen again. Thanks.

Answer:SD reader corrupts SDHC cards?

This could be happen. Happen to me with an external card reader a long time ago. Test your SD card into another card reader to discard any SD problem. If it works good, the problem can be the card reader. To make a recovery, you can use software like GetDattaBack or Ontrack Easy Recovery. If your laptop still under warranty, call customer service. Maybe they will replace your card reader. Best regards.

@YoannFromParis, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  When dealing with the issues from doing an update to Windows 10 there are a few things that may work to fix the issue. First thing to try is running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. The next step is to run the HP BIOS recovery to reload the BIOS to see if it will sync up with the operating system. HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS And if this fails to fix the problem, if you did the update to Windows 10 you can do the stand alone installation to see if it fixes any conflict. Download Windows 10 The other option is to roll back to the previous operating system until new updates get released by Microsoft and then uploaded on the HP support page for your notebook. Please let me know how things go.  Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

I had Vista installed on my Acer  5610z laptop and I was able to read my SDHC card, I now have XP and when i put in the SDHC card in the internal card raader nothing happens. I downloaded the drivers from Acer website for XP card reader and still nothing. I know the card reader is capable of reading the SDHC card, because it was working with Windows Vista. I tried everything and still nothing. Anyone have an idea or suggestion.

Maybe if you told us the make and model of your card reader and whether it is internal or external, instead of putting all your question in the title and just a sad smiley where the information should be, you might get an answer.

W520Win 7When I put my smart card into the reader and open My Computer, the card isn't shown.  I see C: and D: but no smart card.  I noticed that this only seems to happen after I have had the computer go to sleep in Maximum Battery Life mode. Another annoyance:  I thought I would just hit the "refresh" button on My Computer.  Big mistake.  The little green bar just keeps loading and getting slowly bigger for like 30 minutes until I finally get disgusted and restart the computer.  Then it can see the smart card...  Any ideas?

my t430s cannot read 16GB SDHC card i use in my camera. Card is formatted as FAT32. To further check the ricoh card reader i tried putting a 4GB SDHC card and it was able to read that, so I am assuming it is driver issue that I would like to be fixed since the card reader is advertized as SDXC compatible so it doesn't make sense for it not being able to read a 16 GB SDHC card.I have tried installing the latest driver for it from lenovo support site and windows said newest drivers are already installed.

Hi, I recently bought a T430s and when I tried to insert a SD card it did not show up in my computer. I've tried 3 different SD cards the sizes are16 gb, 32 gb and 2 gb and neither of them shows up, to make sure the problem is not in the SD card I tried using the SD cards in 2 cameras and 2 other laptops. In all those devices the cards works.I have tried installing these drivers from this thread https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/New-T430s-4-in-1-express-card-SD-reader-mi... but it did not work. I also tried following the instructions in this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T430s-card-reader-cannot-read-16-GB-SDHC-ca... but that did not help either.According to the device manager the Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller is working correctly. The Ricoh SD Disk Device is also working correctly. Whenever I insert the SD card the Sound for a new device plays and when i remove the SD card the removal sound plays. How can I fix this? I'm going away for 7 weeks with my laptop so I need to fix it ASAP and I dont have time to send the laptop to Lenovo. EDIT:I uninstalled Ricoh Media driver and now 1 of the cards show up but Windows complains about that it needs to be formatted, but the size is 0 so that doesn't work either. Tried installing the driver again and now they show up in the device manager again and proudly says that they are working but the SD card still doesn't show up so I can read the files on it. ... Answer:T430s SDHC card reader not working

I'm experiencing a similar situation with my 1-year old T430s. The built-in card reader was working fine until recently when it stopped working.

Now the built-in SD card reader doesn't recognize SD cards that are recognized in external USB adapters.

Device Manager shows Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Controller when an SD card is inserted into the card reader but neither Windows Computer Management/Disk Management nor Windows Explorer show the drive. Device Manager indicates that the driver is up-to-date (v6.10.10.32 25May11.)

When I put the same SD cards into an external USB adapter they're recognized by Windows, assigned a drive letter and visible to Windows Explorer as well as other applications.

Do I have a defective card reader?

Can a Thinkpad T430s with option "Express Card Slot & 4 in 1 Card Reader & Smart Card Reader" selected at purchase boot from a SD or SDHC card? I had a MacBook Pro and would boot off an SDHC card that held Ubuntu 12.04. Copied this from the specs Slot 2 - Trans Flash and Micro SDLooks like it will accept Micro SD but adapters cost practically nothing, in fact you should get one free when you buy a Micro SD card.

Hi,Just received my brand new Sandisk Extreme 45MB/s 16GB SDHC card from Amazon.New card works fine in my cameras and also can be read fine from X121e IF I use an external USB SHDC card reader. However, when I plug the SDHC card into the built in reader then nothing happens - nothing detected, no additional drive letter etc. If I plug other 8GB or 16GB SDHC cards into the built in reader then they work fine. Have tried several. Have checked the new SDHC card with the h2testw utility and it reports fine. This new SDHC card was bought from Amazon direct - NOT a marketplace reseller etc... So, should be no question about its authenticity... Any ideas anyone please? I dont mind using the external USB reader but it is slower than the built in card reader when I test some of my existing SDHC cards...Plus it means pluggin another device in  - not ideal..

The X220multimedia card reader in the x220 works on the PCI bus and can read SDXC cards. I have seen comments here that it reads the UHS-1 cards. Can it make full use of the read/write speeds of the latest cards, such as the SanDisk Extreme Pro? Also, does it matter whether NTSF or exFAT is used when the card is used as a backup device, not intended for use in a camera? What are the advantages/disadvantages of using SDHC/SDXC cards for backup?

I just inherited a Dell E6520 laptop that has had a fresh install of Win 7 Pro 64 bit put on it. All of the available updates through Microsoft Update have been done to date, and the drivers available for my service tag have been downloaded and installed from the Dell support site.

The only remaining problem I am having is with the on board SDHC card reader. I have a SanDisk 16GB SDHC card that the on board reader completely ignores. The reader works perfectly with a 4GB SDHC card. Both cards are formatted with a FAT32 file system.

The 16GB card works fine in an external USB reader, and it works fine in the on-board reader in my HP 6730B running Win 7 Pro 32 bit OS.

Answer:Dell E6520 SDHC reader can see 4GB card but not a 16GB

Dell has a memory card reader driver, listed with the various chipset drivers. Suggest you install the chipset drivers and the memory card reader and see if that helps.

However, some card readers on Dell's will not read high capacity memory cards, although this is new enough that it should.

Lumia 535: Can I expand using Nokia MU44 Micro SDHC Card 16GB

Answer:Is Nokia MU44 Micro SDHC Card 16GB compatible with Lumia 535?

Yes but be aware that this is only class 4 so some lagging will/can happen.
Furthermore its already an old card which had a 5 years warranty when sold.
But yes if you have it you can use it and judge by yourself if the lagging is acceptable for you.

Just purchased T420 from Outlet store.  When I attach a card reader to any USB port, I can't get the restart unless I remove the card reader from the laptop.  My good SanDisk USB Flash drive does not stop it from restarting. It's just the cheap card reader.  I never had this issue with my T61. Is this normal? Chief'R

Answer:T420 will not restart with SDHC card reader attached to USB Port

Well, it can if there is media in it. Go into the BIOS and change the boot order such that the USB boot is below other devices. DVD, then HD and it should not affect it.

I now have the above named phone and require a Back-up memory card, Samsung state the maximum card must be a Micro SDHC which I know is not available by Samasung in 64GB size.

Does anyone in the group happen to own a Samsung Galaxy Note II Lte GT-N7105 Smartphone please and tell me if they have tried a 64GB Micro SDXC card with or without any issues.

Hey all.  I just bought a Thinkpad Advanced Dock for my T61 and it's pretty much replaced my old desktop system.  The only problem I'm having with it is that the card reader in the dock won't read SDHC cards.  It'll read SD cards fine, but doesn't do anything for SDHC cards.  My T61 will read SDHC cards, which I use as a readyboost drive, but I'd rather use the card reader built into the dock for it.  I've looked for updated drivers, but apparantly the dock doesn't have drivers, according to the Lenovo site's Drivers section.  Any help?   Now all I have to do is wait to get a video card to replace the crappy Intel x3100 in my T61...  Any recommendations on a better one than the one Lenovo recommends? I've heard good things about the PowerColor AX6570 and ATI Radeon HD 4670.  There are Youtube videos of it in an Advanced Dock, playing Crysis 2 at roughly 30fps.  Personally I'd lean more towards the Powercolor, but that's just me.  Thanks in advance. System Specs:Lenovo T61 6465-01U6GB RamWindows 7 Home Premium x64Thinkpad Advanced Dock Note: I hope this is the right section to post this.  I figured since it was T61 related, it might belong here.  Sorry if it doesn't.

Answer:Thinkpad Advanced Dock won't read SDHC cards? & Video Card Recommendation?

Hello,

If you have heard that the PowerColor AX6570 or the ATI Radeon HD 4670 works in the ThinkPad Advanced Dock, then I would recommend going with that, as finding a low-profile single-slot video card that fits into the dock and works in it may be difficult.

Given the era in which the ThinkPad Advanced Dock was designed, it may only support SD cards via the card reader.  I would  suggest attaching an SDHC card reader via one of the USB ports, or perhaps via the CardBus or ExpressCard ports, if those aren't being used.

I have a Lenovo G780 laptop, and have had it for over a year, until 2 weeks back, everything was working fine. I started to have problems with the headphone jack where sound only came out of right ear.  Stereo Speakers were working fine. I made sure to go into Sound> Playback devices to make sure the Conexant Smart Audio was working right and the sound to L and R were balanced. I reinstalled the drivers (or what I found) and still it did not help. Now, a few days ago, the headphone jack stopped working completely (speakers still work). I retored my laptop to an earlier restor point (a month back when everything was working fine) and still no effect. Today when I tried to use the built in SD card reader, that I had used many times before, the card  reader would not detect it. I tried other Cards and they did not work either. I tried re installing the realtek drivers and got no effect. In device manager, whenever i insert the card, the wind refreshes, but nothing shows up in My Computer.I take good car of not laptop and there is no visible damage to any part of the laptop. I suspect the board inside is somehow damaged because the jack and card reader are located within a few mm of eachother. I have not yet tried factory restore, but all restore points do not fix the issue.

I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre, purchased only four weeks ago.  It product family is IdeaCentre k410, machine type 10089.  Anyhow, the problem is: I inserted a microSD / microSDHC, both of which seem to fit into the slot fine, though neither registers under anywhere in windows explorer, neither in the root of C://, nor in any of the subdirectories, or on the main listing of mounted file systems.  I used the Lenovo Driver Updater and re-installed the SD Card Reader driver, to no avail.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.  As well, the computer runs Windows 8, which has some features I'm unhappy with, and although this is not a windows forum and I don't mean to create a thread that deviates from lenovo-specific topics, I was wondering if there is anything in either the machine architecture or the software of Windows 8 that could hinder m in installing a dual-boot system so that I might have the option of running a variant of linux as a sub-operating system, as I did with windows XP.?????  OK any help at all would be so greatly appreciated, thank in advance.  I really want to be able to retrieve some writing files I have stored in that micro SDHC card.  As another aside, does anyone know the max limit of RAM this computer can take and if it is DDR or some other type?

Answer:SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC/MS/MS Pro card-reader slot not showing up in windows explorer.

hi BrokenHalo,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1. When you inserted the SD card, do you hear a sound that a device is inserted and under Device Manger, do you see a Card Reader?

If not, try to:
a. boot intto the BIOS by pressing F1, load defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
b. Reseat the front panel connectors (see page 23 of the hardware maintenance manual)

2. To install linux (i.e. Ubuntu), see if you can install Ubuntu via UEFI. If you're unable to do so or if you want to install other OS, try to:
a. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 and set the following settings below

UEFI Boot Mode = Legacy
Secure Boot = Disabled  (if applicable)
CSM = Disabled /  Legacy or Other OS (if applicable)
OS Optimized Default = Disabled or Legacy (if applicable)

b. When finished, press F10 to save and exit BIOS then try to install Ubuntu via Wubi or insert your Windows installation disc to install a different OS.

3. As per this pdf data sheet, the Lenovo K410 has a max RAM of 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3  but Crucial reports that this unit can take up to 16GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 - check this site.

Hope this helps

Nowhere in the documentation, web site is any info about what kind of controller and hence what size SD cards this model is supporting.Even Lenovo tech support doesn't know that info!I am really hesitant to buy a SDXC card of +32GB only to find out it supports on SDHC cards, thus limited to 32GB... thanks for any useful info, Ralf

Answer:What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)

Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB

Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow  a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Notebook Satellite U200-165, Win XP home,
I got in 2006, all this time there wasn't any problem with my mmc cards.
Yeasterday installed WinXP pro, installed drivers: flash media driver and SD secure module and card reader don't read MMC cards

Help, please!

Answer:Satellite U200-165: Card reader don't read MMC cards but reads SD card

Hi

What do you mean exactly by ?MMC card doesn?t work??
What is card reader status in device manager?

I checked the user manual (can be downloaded from the Toshiba page) and it says the MMC cards are definitely supported.
I think this must be a software issue.

In your case I would recommend updating the Win XP to the latest state and to reinstall the Flash Media Driver and SD Secure Module again?

I got an 8gb micro sdHC card filled up using the adapter, with music, which plays fine.

Before I received this cheap us>microSD adapter I asked the seller if it read HC cards. They said no. It's just a cheap chinese adapter on ebay so there isn't much info on it at all. It's write up didn't say anything about HC capabilities.

Like I mentioned, I was able to use it to load up an 8gb sdHC card.

Does this mean that it will probably also work with a 32gb sdHC card? Is there a size limit that the 8gb card didn't exceed?

If yes, I'd like to buy more now because I don't think these will hold up to much use.

Thanks

Answer:Can My Usb>microsd Adapter Read Sdhc If It Fills An 8gb Sdhc Card? Seller Says It Won't.

I found the same item elsewhere on ebay which mentions that it recognizes up to 32gb, which is what I needed.

So....I suppose there are quite a few adapters out there labelled only SD but will in fact read up to at least 32 SDHC cards.

I think going over 32gb cards might require additional capabilities.

Hello, I'm not sure if this question belongs here or in the Mac section, but hopefully I can be steered in the right direction...

I just purchased a Kingston Media Reader (FCR-HS3) to transfer files from my camera to my PC. However, It did not occur to me before buying to check if the reader might also work with my wife's Macbook. The packaging only indicates Windows XP/Vista/7 , but I read a few product reviews suggesting that it does (they did not definitively say so).

Will it actually work with both PC and Mac?

I bought the Reader on-line, so to save the hassle of mailing it back, I thought I might be able to check here first, instead of opening it, testing it, and then having to send it back.

Thanks very much for your time!

Answer:Media card reader PC & Mac compatible?

I'd ask this question directly on Kingston's tech support page for the product.

http://www.kingston.com/us/support/technical/products?model=fcr-hs3

This way you'll get a straight answer directly from the mfr.

Hope this helps.

Hey there, its me again. Yesterday I tried the card reader that is built into the laptop yesterday, and to my disappointment, it simply didn't work. I push the card in, and after I hear the click, it sits in the slot how it is supposed to. The light comes on for about a second, then shuts off right away. I've tried in Windows 7 64 bit and Windows xp 64 bit, and neither one responded despite having the right drivers and everything. Any ideas, or was this just poor design, like the rest of the machine? - 2 Bunny/Dr Robinson

Hi, I'm about to get myself a nice X201. But I still cannot figure out which cards are operated/served by 3-in-1 card reader? And which in case of 5-in-1? Hey everyone,

I bought a new desktop not too long ago with a 5 in 1 card reader built into the front of the tower under the CD drives. Up until recently those readers have worked fine and I use them with my digi cam SD card and my nokia MMC card to transfer files better than USB cables.

Anyway, recently when putting in cards, the usual XP box that asks you what you want to do with the files has stopped popping up, and to my surprise, when going into My Computer, the card reader's are no longer listed as removable devices! Before they were all present as devices with removable storage but now it's like they don't exist!

I have checked the connections going from the card reader to the motherboard and no wires are loose or anything, it's not like they would anyway, they were working fine before and nothing's been moved.

I emailed Acer and they didn't tell me anything, they said to do a full system restore to factory settings, but that would remove everything on this computer, and I don't want to do that cos there's loads of stuff on it I would need to backup and keep.

Is there anything anyone can suggest? There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the hardware, it just doesnt seem to exist under devices.

Please help, I don't want to go back to USB cables!

Danny

Answer:card reader wont register cards

I've had a look around the web and there doesn't seem to be a specific fix for this problem.Try this, go to device manager and locate your usb host controller (not the usb hub) right click on it and select uninstall, if you have more than one do the same for each usb host controller. Reboot the laptop in the normal fashion and windows will automatically re-install the usb host controllers. This method installs new host controller drivers should the present ones be corrupt in some way. As always create a system restore point before you continue as a precaution although you shouldn't need it.

Recently my card reader has stopped recognising the cards inserted and when I try and open them I get the 'Please Insert Disk into Drive H:' message.

I have reformatted the cards (in the the camera not in Windows) and they work fine while in the camera.
Also if I connect the camera directly to the USB port it is detected, but still I get the same message when I try and open the drive.

I think this has started since I upgraded to XP from 2000 but seeing as I don't use it very much I can't be sure.

FYI the Camera is an Olympus Camedia C-4000 Zoom.

Any known issues here?

Thanks in advance.

I have looked and looked and cannot seem to find a solution that works. I saw one person with a different system write that they uninstalled the reader then reinstalled it. That was no help whatsoever as the person made no note of what exactly was uninstalled. My problem: The 16-in-1 media card reader stopped reading SD cards. If I attach a USB media card reader to the USB port  on front, it (PC) recognises the reader but will not read any cards. I have a bazillion photos on several SD cards, and would really like to clear them off... Please help. I would really appreciate specifics. I tried uninstalling one of the USB ports, (Intel 82801G (ICH Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC, but it was not the right one. When the reader did work, the drive was labelled as "M". Curent drives are "C", "D" (1st partition of second SATA drive) , "E" (2nd partition of second SATA drive), "K" an external USB drive, "L" another external USB drive. G,H I, and J are the media slots (I think) M is missing but sometimes shows up if an SD card is inserted, but will not read any cards at all anymore. I get a "mising disc" error. System: Levovo 3000 H210 desktop running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit version. I've added a second SATA hard drive as well as a Turtle Beach soundcard. The Card reader worked after these devices were installed. It's only been recently that the computer can't read the cards.

56 views and no ideas or suggestions!?! I contaced Lenovo about this. They gave me instructions on uninstalling the drive. So, I uninstalled it, rebooted, the system found the drive and reinstalled it. Still will not read any of my previously readable SD cards. The next thing they want me to do is a full system recovery. I'm on the fence about that. Does it competely remove all owner added files and pregrams?

I also verified that USB setting is from factory and no devices are disabled under the OS.   I downloaded and installed both the Alcor / Realtek card driver for the machine, the issue is still not fixed.   Weirdly if I use a 256MB MMC (similar form factor as SD) it works normally.    I wonder what's the issue?

It remains as a hidden object which can only be viewed when I activate the "show hidden items" thing. Before the big update, every time I inserted a SD card, is popped up as a new drive (as th USB pen drives do).

Any clue?

Answer:Problem showing SD cards when inserted in card reader

Ok, solved itself after a reboot. :/

I just installed a Rosewill RCR-IM5001 internal card reader into my Windows 7 PC. I connected the USB 2.0 connection, SATA connection and power supply. The three USB ports work perfectly, but the SD card slot and the MicroSD card slot don't work. There are two lights on the front of the reader and neither one lights up. I've tried changing the SATA port and I have double-checked the power connector. Still I get no response when I plug a card in. Suggestions?
Also, I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and my motherboard is an MSI X58M

Answer:USB works on Rosewill internal card reader but cards do not

I've ran across a couple of those Rosewill sd card readers that do not work, You can get an RMA from Newegg they are very good about that

I have just purchased a Kingston 2GB SD Card. Despite numerous efforts I can only get my 2450-101 to Format 1GB of storage on this card.
Has anyone any experience of this and a way round it?

Answer:SD card reader supports only 1GB cards on Satellite 2450-101

I found in googel the Satellite 2450-101 specifications and it seems the card reader can handle only the SD card without MMC support. Additional not every SD card size is supported and therefore in my opinion the 2GB SD card size is big?

I don?t know if it will help you but I read somewhere in the forum about a similar themes. The Toshiba SD card format utility was updated and it was able to format the 2gb SD cards. I cannot remember the version of this utility but you could try to download the SD card format utility from the Portege M400 section.
But as mentioned, I?m not sure if this utility will work on the Satellite 2450.

Hi all, I have a T430s with a smart card reader.Turns out that some cards (including, as it happens, one of my personal cards) the reader can't read. It either does not respond at all, or gives an "unknown card" identification. The very same card, on the very same laptop, using an Athena USB reader, works flawlessly. I'd say it's a reader malfunction BUT some other cards are read perfectly by my built-in reader... Why would the reader refuse to read certain cards? Any ideas? Anyone seen something like this? Thanks for any insight!

Hi, It has a SD card reader on the left and it is very safe to use SDHC or SDXC card up to 64GB. I actually use a Samsung microSD SDXC card which is housed in an adapter (microSD - SD) Regards.

The card reader in my Flex 14 is behaving very oddly. When I insert a 16GB SDHC card it makes the 'USB inserted' noise and the card shows up under device manager but I can't access it through file explorer. The card reader works fine with smaller SD cards that I have. I tried the card in another, Win7 laptop and it worked fine. I see a number of other people are having a similar problem and I have followed all of the troubleshooting advice I can find, but nothing is working. Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is what I have tried:1. Leaving the card in the camera and attaching the camera via USB cable to the laptop: same result, noise, but can't access the card.2. Trying to reassign the drive letter through storage controller: it shows the card but if you right click it to assign it a drive letter it says the 'file is missing'.3. Downloaded the Win8.1 x64 driver from Lenovo website and installed. This stopped the card being recognised at all.4. Installed the Win8 xc4 driver: this got me back to the noise but no action stage.5. Updated Windows.6. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver numerous times both with the card inserted and without it and with restarting the computer after unistall and after reinstall.7. Ran Ubunutu from a live USB: This allowed me to see the card and copy its contents to the laptop's HDD. So it seems to be some incompatibility between the Lenovo drivers and Win8.1. Potentially it's to do with the USB drivers rather than the car... Read more

I have one of those add-in card multi-card readers that fits into a floppy drive bay and plugs directly to a terminal on the main board. I think it might be a Rosewill brand I got from Newegg.

If I go through the disconnect procedure to remove the card and want to reinsert any card later, I must reboot the computer before the card is recognized. Going into System and telling it to scan for hardware changes does no good, neither does View> Refresh in My Computer.

Any suggestions for a solution would be appreciated.

now I'M confused if I have always been doing this wrong.
I have always had multicard readers on my HP printers.

I use SD cards for the most part.

when I insert a card the "card present" light comes on--
when I'm done with the card--I just pull it out and put it back in to what
ever device I have it in.

there doesnt seem to be any errors or problems doing it this way.

I thought the only precaution you had to take was-- turn off the camera if
that's what you had the card in--before removing the card and make sure the
camera is turned off when you put the card back into the camera

but this is more protection for the camera then the card--

are you disabling the whole card reader when you use the disconnect hardware feature
to unplug a card

How can I find out if my SD card reader supports SDXC cards.
My laptop is a satellite A300 and the properties of the card reader say " SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controlle".

Am I able lto use SDXC cards with this device and if not am I able to upgrade the software to support SDXC cards?

Thanks for your help

Answer:Satellite A300 - Does card reader support SDXC cards?

Hi

I read in the forum about the card reader on Satellite A300 and I found very useful info.
The card reader supports following kind of cards:

- SD Card - 8MB-2GB
- SDHC Card - 4GB
- xD picture card - 16MB-2GB
- Memory Stick - 8MB-256MB
- Memory Stick Pro - 256MB-2GB
- MultiMediaCard - 8MB-1GB
- miniSD (with SD adapter) - 32MB-2GB

As you can see teh SDXC cards are not supported... in such case I recommend using an common external USB card reader which would support the SDXC cards

Hi, Just did a clean (well, Lenovo Restore clean) Win 7 Pro 64 bit install on my 2441 W530.  The issue is that the card reader doesn't seem to recognize cards.  The Driver is installed and claims to be "working properly".  But if I shove a card in the slot and have it click in, nothing happens.  No little "thudump" noise from the O/S, no recognition of the drive in Windows Explorer.  Any ideas? Thanks, J

Answer:Ricoh PCIe SCXC/MMC card reader not recognizing cards...

Hello,

If you boot the W530 from a Linux Live CD and attempt to access an SD Card, is it then recognized?  If not, I would say that it is a hardware issue (perhaps the internal card reader apparatus is loose).

Hi all, New NS723UK 3000 N500 laptop, 4-1 card reader slot has mmc,ms,mspro,sd imprinted under the card slot on the front of the laptop.  My supplier site and I believe Lenovo says reads xd cards. Devices Mgr shows under memory technology the following listed driver jmb38x ms host controller, sd host and sd/mmc host, no mention of xd host, does anyone know if xd should be listed there too?  Stick an sd card in works fine, stick xd card nothing.  xd card works fine in another laptop. Tried newer driver off site no difference. Rang support they say their details shows xd compatible. Anyone any suggestions or come across anything similar. Thanks.  Message Edited by Nigel_Red on 12-17-2008 12:17 PM

I acquired a Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition Desktop
(i7-6700; 16Gb ram; Win10; Gtx960; Dell Wireless 802.11 b/g/n).
I want to upgrade the wireless card to enable a 5GHz-AC connection to my ASUS RT AC87U router.
It looks like usb wireless adapters suffer from disconnection and break downs along the way (got this from reading reviews on amazon)
Can anyone recommend a few new AC wireless cards compatible with this desktop? (head about the Intel 7260 but I dont know if there are newer ones).
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Dell XPS 8900 Desktop - upgrade wireless card - which 5GHz cards are compatible?

I have the Dual Band Intel wireless AC 7260 in two systems.  One of those is a 14 year old Inspiron 1545.  There is also an 8260 which I just used to replace a 3165 which Dell put in a new system.
Be aware, those cards come in two widths.  The newer systems may take one 16 mm wide where prior systems us the 30 mm.  I haven't looked at the service manual for that system, so make sure and check exactly what form factor it needs.  You can tell what size it is if you check the antenna leads.  If they are on the same side of the card it is the smaller one.

Hi folks.  I recently purchased newegg item number 14-102-876 which is SAPPHIRE 100292L Radeon HD 5450 (Cedar) 1GB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card. I am running Win 7 x64 with 4GB of RAM.  I disabled the on board video card through device manager.  I also set PEG as the preferred video output in bios.  When I power the machine on, it gives me a beeping sequest (4-3-4-2 I think) and neither one of the display adapters work.  The fan blows really hard for about 60 seconds and then powers off.  I've read in some places that this PC's MOBO/PCI-E card can not support ATI cards series 5xxxx.  Can someone give me suggestions as wo what cards would work? I usually purchase everything from newegg (sort by price - cheapest - decent rating)  so if you can give me examples from newegg I would appreciate it. I want to be able to play games liek Transformers: War for Cybertron and the minimum requirement for that is a 256MB card but I ordered the 1GB just to be sure I don't have any problems with any other games.  Thanks folks!

Answer:Unable to use Radeon HD 5450 card on M58P 6234-A1U...suggestions for compatible cards?

none of the ATI 5xxx graphics work in the current Thinkcentre and Thinkstation desktops. But all the the ATI 4xxx series work.

Hey Guys (and Gals, if any)...

I have upgraded my Vista Ultimate Aspire 9810 to Win 7 Ultimate(32). Everything is fine, so far, except for the 5-in-1 Memory card reader. It only reads up to 2GB. I cannot remember, when I had Vista Ultimate on it, if it read beyond 2GB.

Any ideas!?!?!!

Are there any updated drivers that support beyond 2GB on this Aspire? I hate to add a reader via USB for that only and wastes a port.

Thanks!

Answer:Aspire 9810 Card Reader driver to read Memory Cards beyond 2GB

If there's a driver for it, it'll be at Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Notebook, Aspire 9810.

Try any relating drivers from XP and Vista as well.

It hope this helps.

Question: SD & SDHC Cards

What is the difference between the flash memory storage cards SD & SDHC? The reason I ask is because I have a Sat-Nav that says it takes up 4Gb SD cards. But as far as I can tell 4Gb SD cards are SDHC, now I have an 8Gb SDHC and am totally confused as to whether it will work or not.(I realise that this is a computer forum but if it makes anyone feel any better then I'll let you know that my Sat-Nav runs on Windows CE [and therefore must be a computer :p ].

Answer:SD & SDHC Cards

SD is older- SDHC needs different logic control. an SDHC accepting device can take SD- if it does it will be labelled with SDHC. if it is just labelled with SD then you cannot use a SDHC card with it.

Question: SDHC Cards (8Gb)

I've recently purchased an SDHC card which has an 8Gb capacity. When I insert into my card reader (internal not external) it won't read. I've checked a number of sites which suggested 'hot fixes' from Microsoft but have since installed SP3. Whenever I try to install any of these 'fixes' I'm told that I'm already at a more up to date position and these fixes are not required. Does anyone know what I need to do to enable SDHC support on my XP SP3 system?
