MS Picture manager mixing up photos date order

Question: MS Picture manager mixing up photos date order

When I download photos from my Sony Cybershot to my notebook, using Windows Camera wizard to MY PICTURES relevant sub-file, they remain in the jpg file (& date) number order. But when I view or edit them in MS Picture Manager, I find some of my photos date order has been mixed-up compared to the order of taking and storing them on the camera folder and in the Explorer/My Pictures sub-file. So, when I simply wish to view them in a slideshow sequentially they are of course displayed as well out of order. Nor can I find a facility in MS PM to re-arrange them in date order? Furthermore, MS PM will not allow me to drag & drop them back into the date order (which would be a long job sometimes with holiday photos in any case!).

Has anybody a solution how to overcome this frustrating time-waster, please?

Preferred Solution: MS Picture manager mixing up photos date order

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the TSG forum.

Sorry, not familiar with M$ PM ...
But the freeware Irfanview Image Viewer and Editor is very popular here at TSG.

This should have some more tools as compared with M$ PM

Help! I've just returned from Europe with over 2,500 pictures, many of them photos of paintings that I took vertically with my Leica X2. When beginning to edit them with Microsoft Picture Manager, I found when looking at thumbnails that the verticals were not displayed rotated. And when reviewing individual vertical photos and saving them rotated, they still displayed vertically when again looking at thumbnails.

I have been using Picture Manager for several years with Windows 7 and Office 2010 and the same camera -- and the verticals were always auto-rotated and stayed rotated after being saved. I now have a monstrous job ahead of me and would appreciate some help.

Answer:Why won't MS Picture Manager auto-rotate my photos?

I recently copied photos from my DVD to my computer which runs XP SP2 . When I open the folder in File Explorer it shows the photos in all views ( it shows the photo clearly as it is in thumb nail view). But when I double click (Open using default editor) the photo, it does not display the photo but shows a small icon 'X" in the screen.
Can someone help. Not sure what the problem is.

some other issues
1) First time when i open after copying the photos it shows all the photos but later when i open it shows a few of them and others are shown with X icon.
2) is there any impact if I use a file wiper tool such as Glarys utilities or CCleaner? does it corrupt the photos?

Why does it say that I will receive the laptop 2 weeks from now when it says that I should expect it within 1-3 days?

Answer:Dell site says XPS 15 gets delivered in 1-3 days, the order date for my order is 2 weeks from now...

Generally when that happens there has been a burst of orders, or there is a part on back order and the sales site hasn't been updated yet.  The delivery times are just estimates and could be sooner or later depending on various conditions.

I have Vista Home Premium with Microsoft Photo Gallery on my Dell Inspriron 1721 laptop. I?m using a machine to transfer slides to a SD card then uploading them to Photo Gallery. Photos transfer Ok except the order of the photo gets scrambled somehow during upload. In other words, the photos on the SD card are in chronologically order but after uploading, when I view them in Photo Galley, the order is all mixed up. I know you can manual move them around but it?s hard to be sure of the original order and it is very time consuming when you have hundreds of photos. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix them. FYI I would call myself a novice user of Photo Gallery.

Answer:Uploading photos from a SD memory card into Photo Gallery scrambles order of photos

Will the Photo Gallery sort by name? You could prefix the photo names with numerical sequence. A utility like
Introduction - Bulk Rename Utility will do it easily. It's free.

Edit: if that looks too busy, the multi-renamer in FreeCommander is a bit simpler to use. [c] before the name prepends a number starting at what you select and incrementing by what you choose. Just press F2 when in the folder.

It looks like the 31 March deadline for the latest Edge promotions is the date of invoice rather than the date of order. Given Lenovo's reported long build time and slow delivery (= late invoice), I suspect that ording now from the Lenovo web site will see an invoice date outside the qualifying period. Even a dealer who says he can 'get one in' may not deliver and invoice until April or beyond. I think the only option is to find a dealer who unequivocally has current stock. Can anyone shed any light on the likely position. I do, though, wonder about trying to take advantage of Lenovo Cashback at all, given the horror stories reported here.

Answer:Edge 31 March promotion deadline - order date or invoice date?

My experience with cashback is a deathly silence from Lenovo to emails asking for progress on the cash or even recognition that there has been a registration for cashback...Currently considering giving Lenovo some publicity on the matter.Unless you have a lot of time to possibly get no where I would steer clear of the alleged cashback scheme...

I want to drag and drop them in a certain order in the folder, which I can do, but then they don't stay that way. I see in the drop down "arrange icons by....." but none of the choices include "just leave them the way I put them." The only thing I can do is to number them, and that's dumb. Can someone help me? unless the pics are sorted by some order (size alphabet whatever) the pc my be sorting them as it burns them to cd as it will find it easier this way.

Please can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Answer:photoframe picture order

I do not have any experience with these picture frames but my best guess would be to number the files in the filename in the order you want them. I hope this helps.

example: 1mountian.jpg
2beach.jpg
3petdog.jpg
etc.

I just loaded the pictures we took on a recent vacation onto my computer. The order was all messed up. There was a picture I took today right next to one I took three weeks ago. Why is this?

Answer:Scrambled picture order.

This will depend on how you (or windows) are sorting the files.

Assuming you are looking at them in a window, change the 'views' to 'details' and columns with titles will appear, if you click on each title you will change the order of the files (pictures). Name. Date Created, Date Modified, File Type, File Size etc. If you click on Date Created it will put them in date order.

If not then....

Another reason could be if the clock in your camera has been changed.

Windows XPI have created a separate folder into which I have transferred various photographs in the order in which I want them to be shown using a digital projector. The problem is when I first transfer them everything is in order. When I close down and then go back to the folder some of the photos have relocated themselves all to the end.At first I thought maybe photo size but its definately not this. There are two "lots" my own (which incidentally seem to keep themselves in order) and a friend's and it appears to be some (and only some) of these which go out of syncronisation.Any ideas what I am doing wrong, or need to do to rectify please.Ankermi

Answer:Problems with saving photos in my order

They should be in name order but remember if they are numbered then 10 will come before 1, 100 will come before 10. so to keep them in order you neeed to rensme them 001, 010 then 100. if it goes into 4 figures it needs to be 0001 etc.

The Photos app does not do this but I'm hoping it is a feature they will add. The Windows Photo viewer will do this and the feature is called shuffle. Right click the picture during the slideshow to select it.

I have 44 photo subfiles in my Pictures file. All photos in all the files have names, not numbers. I'm having problem w/new file containing photos of a trip on a mailboat in Casco Bay, Portland Me. I need to keep the photos in the order they were taken so I know which photos are of a particular island in the Bay. The photos are in correct order when they have the original no identification. When I save edited photos w/new names, they do not align in correct order. I have rearranged them twice & they do not stay in the correct order. The file contains 20 of the photos now but there are a total of 80 photos to be added to this file. I have had this problem w/other photo files but it's not such a problem when there are a small no. of photos in the file. I have an HP computer w/VISTA.This is turning into a big problem since I take a lot of photos.

Vista can do that with tools already available, or you probably have the needed photo software, there are lots of ways to create slideshows. Your graphics card has to meet certain requirements in order to use that.........here is info on it:

Answer:Getting my recent documents in date order (XP)

Not true that Start>Documents are always in alphabetical order - you must have done a right click and then Sort By Name at some time; Sort By Name is also available in Programs, Favourites etc.If you disable this it will only list the documents, files and other items used in the order they were undertaken.

Hello,
I just made the switch from Apple to an HTC One M8 for Windows and couldn't be happier, except for one nagging issue...
In order to transfer my images/videos, I initially used iPhoto on my Air to import the data from the iPhone, and then used "Windows Phone" program to transfer the data to my M8. However, the images are not in chronological order and it is astoundingly irritating. I tried to search the forums for a similar issue/resolution but could not find one, so I am sorry if I am duplicating a previous query.
Please let me know if there is a fix to this issue. If I need to delete the data on my phone and retransfer, using some other, more proven, method, that would be fine with me as well. Also, does the "Photos" tile cycle through images from only a particular album/section? Ever since I selected 4 images to my "Favorites", the tile has only displayed 1/4 images.
Okay, thank you very much for your help! I genuinely appreciate it.

Answer:Just switched from Apple -- Photos not in chronological order...

Where do the transferred images show up, the camera roll or saved pictures?
What I have done for some iphone users is a manual drag & drop of all the images / relevant folders onto a PC and then copied them over via drag & drop onto phone both were plugged in via usb (using CopyTrans to copy from the iphone - can't stand itunes). That hasn't caused any issues, otherwise would have heard them by now :P.http://www.copytrans.net/

Happy Holidays, everybody!

I've got a 90th birthday picture project that I'm assembling and am getting pictures from several sources. Sometimes I'll get two or three sets of image files, all of which are labeled "img_001.jpg, img002.jpg, img003.jpg", etc. These come from several past years. When they're dumped from a thumb drive to my working folder, and then displayed, they get all intermixed. (I use irfanview to view the collection, to assure they're sharp focused, etc.)

I sorted the folder by date, went to the first file and launched irfanview. I get the selected file. If I click the "next arrow", I might get the next physical file, not the next-by-date. The program has a slideshow function that will sort it for you and display by date.

What I really want is to get the files into the date order physically on the disk, so that when copied onto a digital picture frame, for example, it will play sequentially by date if possible. I don't know that they have a lot of intelligence, to sort the pix by itself.

I tried sorting by date and the copying to a different folder on a different disk, but it always changes when I access it afterward. With 400+ pictures, I don't want to do them one-by-one.

Any freeware out there that'll do it for me?

Thanks!

Hello and good morning to u all. I have itunes on my windows XP machine which ive been using for over 4 years...i think itunes is the best music player out there, but ive got one problem that i'm hoping that can be sorted out for me here today. I have an extensive music library(like most people)...and my music is sorted by DATE ADDED,...as i'm accustomed to this way...but here is my problem...when I sort by date added...the track numbers in the all my albums appear out of order....just like here:click hereI'm sure like myself, there are loads of people that like to listen to an album in the EXACT WAY that is on the CD recorded by the artist. I know i can re-arrange this as a playlist but its a lot of hassle and it wont solve the problem in my actual music library which will still show in the incorrect order. There MUST be a solution out there.....When I listen to music I most start my listening session with the music I have added most recently. If I have added an entire album recently I want to hear the album in the order the "artist" intended it to be heard. I would think many people would be keen to hear the things they have added most recently. The lack of an option to sort by "Date Added by Track#" is terribly annoying for me.

For a long time, if I downloaded a folder from Google chrome, it would go to the downloads folder in Microsoft explorer with the latest downloaded file on top. I'm not sure how I changed it, but somehow the download folder now has the looks of the music library with categories in the details view of "name","contributing artist", "title", "album". I can sort them by name alphabetically, but not by date downloaded. If I don't remember the name of the download, I'll have to search for it in this huge folder of lots of different downloads, and if it has a weird name as some downloads do, it will be difficult. Is there a way to go back to getting the downloads folder like a documents folder (or however it was) and be able to arrange them by date downloaded?

scanned large group picture - had to use right side on first photo and left side on the other. Have Photoshop 7. Need to overlap a portion and line up so I can have one photo. Any step by step?
Thanks.

Answer:two photos, one picture

the basics...

open each of the images then open a new image that is approx. the combined size..paste each image on it's own layer...from there you can make color adjustment and line them up before saving as one.

iF you do a search on Google using "stiching with Photoshop" you should get a bunch of tutorials

ther are also some good freeware programs that work quite well

Panorama Factory comes to mind

Is there any simple way to print 4x6 photos with the date in the bottom corner, as I have been used to with my old fashioned non-digital camera?I am using the Microsoft photo software that comes with Windows XP and (though probably irrelevant) a Canon Ixus V2 and HP Deskjet 5550.Any help gratefully received.Thanks.

Answer:Printing photos with date

My Epson 680 has a date printing option in the print set-up. Don't know about yours. The alternative is to add the date with a prog such as Ulead PhotoExpress.

Hi,
I would like to use a VLOOKUP formula in my bank statement sheets in order to populate item codes from a lookup table. Some of the entries (lookup values) in a statement contain a date in the form of ddmmm (e.i. 21JUL). Is there a way of creating a VLOOKUP formula that will ignore the date in the lookup value and therefore populate correct item codes into the statement sheets...for example I have several instances of the entry BANK TRANSFER ON ddmmm, where ddmmm is the date (21JUL, 11AUG, 05SEP). I would create a lookup table with a single entry BANK TRANSFER ON and the VLOOKUP formula will recognise this entry ignoring the date in the lookup value.
Hope it makes sense. Thank you in advance. Heidi

Right-click in Explorer to get an extended properties plus dialogue box. If you mean that the date and time are stamped on the photograph, that is also possible but a bit laborious.

hi,
when i download photos from my canon camera, they are all put in a folder that is named according to the DOWNLOAD DATE. i'd like the photos to go into folders that are named according to the SHOOTING DATES. this was the behavior of windows in the past and for some reason it changed.
can you tell me how to change this and to get the photos sorted according to the date they were taken?

can you also tell me how to number the photos continuously, instead of numbering from 1 on each new date? i'd like the photos from day one numbered 1 to 14, from day two 15 to 23, and so on.

Answer:Sort downloaded photos by date taken

Hi tamirhoresh

I use the following free application to organize my images as part of my workflow.

cam2pc - Image Viewer and fully featured Digital Imaging software to Download, Organize, Modify and Share your photos

It has a down loader that should work with your camera and will allow much finer control than any of the manufacturers offerings. It will even re-name your existing structure to what you decide to go with

It can actually create folders and image filenames from the files own internal MetaData.

There is a Paid version but have found that the freeware does everything I need.

It is compatible with MS photo programs but actually contains a good set of display options so may even replace them

Answer:when is a picture created date?

EXIF Information or Tag is what you're after. If that info is available, right-clicking the file and selecting Properties will have an extra Exif Tags tab with all the details, or even simply 'hovering' your cursor over the file will show minimal detail incl. Date Picture Taken if Folder Tips is enabled. If the original photo was "manipulated" in any way, ...the original date when picture was taken..." is no longer available... As for whether that info "follows" the file when copying, it depends... "Straight" copying should carry all the pertinent info you want.

HiA fairly small query which I hope is easily solved! When I transfer photos from my Nokia 6300 phone onto Windows and store them in the Pictures folder it never shows any information for Date Created/Taken.I checked the photos on the phone and they all have information regarding the date and time they were taken. I was wondering why, when transfering them from phone to pc, this information doesn't get copied too? My husband has a Nokia N95 and all the photos from his phone transfer with all date and time info intact. It's probably something to do with settings but I can't see where I would change anything.Any help appreciated as I am trying to organise loads of photos on my pc and lots of them have no date info which is proving tricky! I am having to go back to my mobile and look up each photo to check the date and include it in the name of the file (once i know the date windows won't let me add any date taken info). Thanksbear

Answer:Date of camera photos not showing in windows.

If you open your photos in, for instance, Irfanview and click on the "i" button on the Toolbar for each file, you will/should be able to read the required information in a panel.

Hope someone can help on this one as it has me completely at a loss, and pretty peed off!!!

ALL my JPG files, every photo on my hard-drive including 7years of birth to 7 year old have lost the Camera Information from the Properties file of every photo. In other words, no record of when the photo was taken. There are thousands of photos, so I did have them sorted by date for easy viewing, and I really don't want to manually re-enter the Photo Taken Date field!!!!

Any ideas?

Only recent changes to my computer and the installation of Trend Micro Internet Security and I've used Ccleaner to clean out rubbish.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:JPG Properties - Picture Date Deleted

In Windows Explorer or My Computer, View > “Choose Details”. Make sure “Date Created” is checked. Then View > Details to see if the dates are there.

If they aren’t the only thing I might suggest is to deactivate your security software to make sure it isn’t somehow interfering. I doubt that it would but you might as well try everything.

I’ve very much limited CCleaner’s scope in the few times I’ve used it, but a friend on suggestion from another friend ran it with everything checked and it didn’t interfere with his photo dates. I doubt that is what caused the problem.

Hi allCould anybody help me? I have some pictures on my computer which i want to add the dates to by super imposing the date on to it does anybody know how i can do this or where i can download some software that will enable me to do thisThanks in advanceBo

Answer:Super impose date on picture

It's quite easy to do using the "Add Text" option in Irfanview, click here, bo19991. Open the picture in Irfanview, drag out the area you want to put the text/date, go to Edit > Insert Text into selection and there's an option in there to add the date. Save the new picture and that's it. And it's a free download.

My mom died in January and so I loaded a slew of photos of her onto my dad's HP digital picture frame from my computer. Then my computer (with all the original photos) was stolen. Since I had not been smart and backed up the photos of my mom, the only copy of these precious photos is now on the digital picture frame.

Is there any way to recover these photos from the digital picture frame? I have tried putting in a flash drive as well as connecting the frame to my new computer using a USB connection, but the frame does not show an option to transfer photos from it to anything else.....only the other direction. I can delete photos, but I can't move them back to my computer.

Can I take the frame apart, remove the internal memory card and somehow retrieve the photos from the drive?

Sigh. Thank you.

I'm having difficulty understanding how to add text to a photo in MS Picture It! Version 9 Express. Using toolbars and menus, I find at least 3 ways to create a dashed line & yellow corner text box. The instructions tell me to just click inside the box & start typing. I don't see any text appearing in the box. I've tried different font sizes, different font colors, zooming the photo, adding a color background to the text box, and even re-installing the software. I can see one of the stack boxes on the right margin says "insert text here" after I select "insert text" from a toolbar or menu, but cannot seem to add text. I've also tried sending forward and sending back. What do I need to do?

My digital camera, like most, allows you to choose a setting to have the date appear on a picture when they are printed. When I view my photos on the computer there may be several that are too dark so using Paint Shop Pro I enhance them adjusting the contract so the picture will be lighter. The only problem is, when I print the picture that date the picture was taken does not appear but instead the date the picture was enhanced (or modified) is printed. So, if I take a picture on July 13, 2009 and enhance it on my computer on July 22, 2009 and then print it...the July 22, 2009 date appears on the picture. Is there any way around this other than importing the picture into Infanview and inserting the correct date onto the picture?

Answer:Original Date Doesn't Print on Enhanced Photos

If you right click on a photo and get properties, is the Created date the same as the Modified date after you make your edits and save? If so,....HMMMM, but if they are correct then whatever you are using to print with that puts the date on is reading the modified date instead of the created date. I'm using PSPX2 and from what I can see it maintains the created, modified and accessed date correctly after its been edited.

I have a folder of about 20,000 photos from a digicam that I'm organizing for a friend, since I'm rebuilding the system I couldn't bare the mess and had to tackle this too. I've gone through with software to remove the duplicates but now I want to put them into folders labeled by their date created, or date modified. Is there a command for this? Or even a prog.

Answer:Command to sort 20k photos into date modified albums?

I use ThumbsPlus to organize my photos. It has an auto rename feature, so you could sort by date and then rename by year/month or whatever, but it's notsuper automated - you would basically need to rename each months worth of files, which may or may not be a lot of work.

It's not super cheap if all you want to do is rename some files, but I think it has a free 30 day trial.

Hi, I would like some image's Date Picture Taken changed, the method I am using now is change Date Picture Taken of one image at a time in Windows Photo Gallary, I have about 300 images, as you can see, I still have a long way to go.
Is there a faster way of changing Date Picture Taken? And I don't want all images have the same Date Picture Taken, it would be better if one image is just one second more than the previous ones.
For example, I would change one Date Picture Taken 00:01:00 and the next image should be 00:01:01 and than the next 00:01:02 and so on.
IS there a software that can do that? OR anything? PLEASE HELP!

I have the PowerShot A1100 IS with the ZoomBrowser EX system. I can see my uploaded photos all before September 26. Since that time I have transferred photos over six times, but I cannot find them. Now, when I take say 5 photos, and proceed to transfer - no problems. I can also see the photos that I took after 9/26/10. If I click on one of the photos, I am kicked out of the system.

When I search for my photos by date, the ones before 9/26/10 are readily available. I have looked everywhere for my photos so I can edit, email, order on line, etc. but I cannot even see them unless I take some more photos to transfer to ZoomBrowser Ex. Of course, I cannot find my original disk.

Can anyone help me? I have tried a variety of search methods. I am still learning. I have Windows XP.

I just recently received a new Lenovo computer with Windows 10 already installed onto it. Wanting to personalize it, I went into the Lock Screen Settings and clicked the tab to change it from Windows Spotlight to Picture. However, none of my pictures showed up and it automatically reverted back to Windows Spotlight after exiting out of Settings. When opening a Picture and clicking the Set As Lock Screen tab a box comes up that reads:
Can't Set As Lock Screen
Make sure the file isn't damaged, and try again
Nothing appears to be wrong with the photo file, and to make sure it wasn't just that photo I checked several others, including some of the sample pictures that came pre-installed with Windows 10. The same box popped up for all of them.
How can I fix this?
Any help at all will be welcomed.

i then disconnected the camera and checked that the photos had been stored on the picture card, but it just said "read-error" where the photos i had just copied should have been.

i have a finepix a204 digital camera.

are the pictures on the memory card so that i can print them out at the shop? or am i doing something wrong?

Answer:How do I transfer photos from Android phone to Windows 10 without losing the original create date?

The date is still there in the photo properties of each picture. The two platforms probably use a different method to sort. In windows phone the date is part of the file name in addition to being included in the properties of the photo.
On a PC you can right click a photo and select properties to get the date.

A quick search has not revealed anything obvious. However, I wonder if it might be caused by interference from an anti-virus program? Which AV are you using?
