external jpeg viewer won't read some jpeg's

Question: external jpeg viewer won't read some jpeg's

Recently I acquired an LCD multimedia display with built in jpeg reader. I used the flash card with jpeg images on it, from my camera, to test it and the display's reader worked fine. Then I downloaded jpeg's from my computer onto the same flash card and tried to view them and could not. I then put the card into the camera and it would not recognize those jpeg's either, only the images made by the camera. Both would, however, open another jpeg image made by an earlier camera. All the images work fine when viewed on the computer and I cannot tell them apart by any means that I know of to get info on them. I have reformatted some to no avail. I also downloaded images directly from the web and tried them, same problem - once on the flash card, neither camera or the display's reader sees them. Since I have always gone the other way, viewing and reviewing photo images after loading them onto my hard-drive, this problem is perplexing and, so far, I haven't run across it in on-line resources. Any
insight on this would be appreciated.

Preferred Solution: external jpeg viewer won't read some jpeg's

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: external jpeg viewer won't read some jpeg's

With reverse viewing on a camera, the resolution and file naming structure and location (folder on the card) usually has to be exact or the camera will ignore the image.

Unsure about the LCD display, but could be a resolution limitation.

I can't read some jpeg files on my laptop (Windows XP) from an external hard drive while i can read them on another computer (Vista and Windows XP). This is a recent problem, since last week end, after replugging the external HD, only some of the .jpeg file are accessible and can be visualized. Other in different directories can't be readen. If i plug the same HD to another computer, the jpeg file that were visible in the first computer can't be readen, while i can access to the one that were not previously visible.I would appreciate any help.

Answer:Can't read some .jpeg file on an external HD

The external drive requires that the USB port you plug it into can supply 500ma, and even if it can it may not read properly in all USB ports - e.g. a port in an external hub. There are lots of laptops that can't supply 500ma per port when more than one USB device is plugged into the ports built into it - it can only supply 500ma total for all the ports, or for a pair of ports - if you plug in only the external drive it may read fine, or you may need to plug it into two USB ports via a USB Y cord.Troubleshooting USB device problems including for flash drives, external drives, memory cards.See Response 1:http://www.computing.net/answers/ha...

Hi guys. Need something again. Right now, I had to download about a dozen charts for my wife. Cake pan conversions, ingredient substitutions, volume measurements, etc. These are all in a vertical format. I need a viewer that will let me see the entire chart, with a lot of printing options. Enlarge/reduce chart, print multiple pages, print 2 sided, possibly sharpen the image.
Windows 10 photo viewer doesn't do all that. I tried Picassa 3. Thought it was a little bit over kill. Not interested in photo's. Don't need fixing photo's, converting formats, or using batch files. Just need some ability to work with these charts.

I have made a picture CD using my PC CD burner.Itwill playback on my DVD/CD drive but not on my JVC DVD player. The same situation occurs withKodak and Boots Picture CDs.In all 3 cases if I buy a DVD player with, as the brochures say, 'a picture viewer' or 'JPEG viewer' will this resolve the problem.I want to be able to view my photos on a tv via a DVD player so all the family can see. I hope this makes sense to your knowledgeable readers.I would be most grateful to them for help. Thank you.

Answer:JPEG Viewer - is that what I need to view ...

You have to buy a DVD player that is able to playback JPG's. I've recently bought one that will also play MP3's as well as video's.

Answer:JPEG and jpeg file interchange format

Hello,

I am sorry i dont quite understand what you are asking?

Is there a difference between jepg or jpeg? No. They are both compressed image formats. Just like BMP is. PNG is the truest form of Images i have found.

I recently switched to Windows 7 after a nasty virus crushed my old system. Any who- I like the layout and features and such but I have a problem with Viewing jpegs on "the 7".

I did a search and found a link to this forum and was on my way to an answer but the thread expired!!!! and made me sign up....so here i am.

It originally ran as "jpeg images won't display in folders or Windows photo viewer" started by punchy71.

I am having the exact same problems as punchy and would love a solution. Please help!!! and thanks in advance!!!

Hello group:
Another one of those wierd & annoying problems has suddenly developed on my PC:
I use Irfan viewer for my picture viewer, and suddenly it is distinguishing between .jpg and .jpeg files. The viewer setting has just one check box, covering both file types, and it is checked.
In the past if I do a single click on a .jpg file, it shows a thumbnail style quick view on the left under the filename. Suddenly it is doing this only for .jpeg file extensions, not .jpg extensions!? How do I restore this very useful capability? Now I have to double click a .jpg file icon to find out what is there, then x it out and try the next one, instead of rapidly looking at the quickviews one by one to find a particular image.

A sidebar: Adobe Photoshop does not include files with .jpeg extensions in the list of files that can be opened in the specified folder, but it will open the .jpeg file if I enter the filename.jpeg.
It does list all files with .jpg extensions.

Hope someone can help.

Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software (For example from Solidworks).
When I try to right click on a JPEG, a notice window appears written: "Windows Explorer has stopped working - Windows is

checking for a solution to the problem" and then the notice box disapears, the desktop appears and I can continue working.
From the other side - If I try to save as JPEG a screen of Solidworks (like a view of a part) the Solidworks falls but the JPEG
is created (I can see its name in the directory I created it).
I can open the JPEGS with the Paint software if I want but not with the Windows Photo Viewer.
I have the feeling that the Windows Photo Viewer disapeared from my computer - just a feeling.
I will appreciate your assistance.

Answer:Windows photo viewer - problem with JPEG files

Hi,
According to your description, please  re-associate the .jpeg with Windows photo viewer.
1.Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs.
2.Click Windows Photo Viewer, and choose defaults for this program, check the .jpeg, and then click Save.
3.Next,click Windows Photo Viewer again, and click Set this program as default.
As you said, when you tried to right click on a JPEG, Windows Explorer stopped working.
I suggest you use ShellExview to remove the third-party shell extension.

Some of the JPEG images I have in folders won't display. It just shows a blank icon where the photograph or picture should be.
Whenever I try clicking on one of the blank picture icons Windows Photo Viewer automatically tries to open it up and I get the following error message: "Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer."

Keep in mind these are just plain old JPEG images. They displayed just fine in Windows XP which was what I was using when I transferred these pictures from out of my old computer.

If it is Windows Photo Viewer that is the culprit, then how do you update it? If it is something else, what could it be?

Thank you

I have been given a selection of images on a CD-R to prepare for a forthcoming slide show. Some of which needed work done to them. I loaded the images from the CD into my computer and proceeded to work those that needed it in PSP8. The show needed then to be transferred to a flash card to view the show on TV via an image viewer[AverFotoPlay] To do this I ran them through XATSHOW - Standard to regain the camera XIF attributes where those that have been edited would have lost them. Part way through the copy process several [unedited] images threw up as 'Read Only' - With a Window denial message' and will not transfer . It turns out that of the 80 or so images all those after 57 are affected. Looking at the properties, of such an image , the read only box remained empty. The strange thing about this is as mentioned - they copied off CD into my machine OK and the modified set Burned to a new CD-R OK.They have also copied to a Zip So what is XAT seeing or not as the case may be? And what can be done to get round the problem So far I have tried ticking the Read only box, then unticking it and clicking on apply. - No Joy there I have tried giving a new name and using save as -no joy there either. I have also in Irfanview- converted a sample to BITMAP saving as to a new loctation then converting back to JPEG. have tried also tranferring the images 'straight' without goinf through XAT.Still the error massages come up. The Media cards[ Compact and Smart] will not accept this group- g... Read more

Answer:Phantom Read Only Jpeg Files

Jack as I understand things AverFotoPlay will play jpgfrom any camera as a slideshow, so why bother putting them through xatshow. Also once the exif has been stripped from an image file nothing can replace it, so I fail to see what you mean.Edit your images in PSP8 then transfer them directly to a flash card, AverFotoPlay should do the rest.

Hi,
The JPEG files/pictures that I scanned in from slides on my older XP computer won't open under my newer computer running Windows Photo Gallery. In fact it hangs the computer when I try to read or open the file. I am able to read files from a CD that I created from a digital camera on the older computer. Therefore I know that it isn't the old CD drive that is incompatible with the new system. The CDs read fine on the older computer. When I try to import the pictures it says no new pictures or videos are found on this device. Please send me some words of wisdom and know how.
Thanx

I am not very computer savvy and ended up deleting all my pictures of my newborn child. I purchased a program to recover my files and now when I try to open the pictures it says either the file was damaged or corrupted, that it is unable to read file form, or that I do not have a suitable graphics importer. I was told that the pics are in a temporary file? I've tried to open them through windows photo and kodak easyshare. If someone knows how to fix this, please help. I am desperate.

Answer:Recovered pics after deleting and now unable to read jpeg

Hi. . .

I need some additional information, please:

1. How did you originally delete the files (via "Delete" on right-click in Windows Explorer)?
2. Did you look in the Recycle Bin?
3. What recovery program did you use?
4. Why do you believe they are in a temporary folder?
5. Do you know the name of the temp folder?
6. What drive are/were they on (e.g., drive c: - Pictures folder, external hard drive, DVD, etc...)?
7. Is the file extension (the end of the file name) .jpeg, .jpg, etc...?
8. How many pictures (approx) are you looking for?
9. Is every one corrupted?

Question: PSD to jpeg

What is the best programme to convert PSD image to jpeg??

Answer:PSD to jpeg

Typically, if you end up wuth PSD files (unless you downloaded them) they were created by Adobe Photoshop. What happens if you open any file with Photoshop and edit it (even a little) then go to save it, Adobe automatically selects PSD as the save format, and unless you choose different, you end up with a PSD. If you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements installed, all you have to do is open the file again and select "save as" but this time choose jpeg.

If you don't have Photoshop installed, I recommend Irfanview (it's free). It's not really a photo editor, but you can open and "save as" all kinds of formats.

Even though its freeware, its one of the few I like so much I send the author $10 every few years, and he lets me know by e-mail when a new version is out. I know I'm not supposed to, but I carefully hide a ten spot inside an envelope and send him cash.

I've burned slideshows with Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 and found that it appears that about 25% of the perimeter of the shot has been cropped off when I view it on a TV screen. This doesn't seem to happen (or, at least, happen as badly) when I just burn a bunch of JPEGs to CD with Nero. Am I missing something, or is this just how Album works? The main reason I use it is because I can't figure out how to put photos in order when just burning with Nero. I can order them in Photoshop, but it's somewhat of a pain. I would appreciate any input.

When I make as slide show and create a title page or add text to an image- the program gives this image its own extender -.dpg That's fine when the story is burned to a VCD or DVD it all runs in the computer or DVD player exactly as it should, the show running as a movie fixed beginning to end. If a presenter wants to stop, slide by slide to discuss- as he would in a Power Point presentationThis is called image format and a disc can be burned for this too, and run in a PC each image will come on command from the left/right arrow- including all the title pages and images with text added. However if run in a standard DVD player the titles and images with text do not show because they are not jpeg's- fair enough. So I thought if the titles are to appear I would have to take a screen shot of each item that is .dpg run it in an image editer[paint shop] and save it as .JPG -then replace each item .dpg with a .jpg.A disk burned like this - still runs OK in a PCBut the DVD player still does not recognise the new jpegs. Why is that?

now you don't.

Basically, I save a JPEG onto desktop. I know I have.
I open Windows Explorer, I see it on there.

If I am looking flat straight at desktop----which only has two icons it..I don't see it.
Now why would that be?

Answer:JPEG, now you see it...

Hello Eknirb, and welcome to Seven Forums.

As a test, refresh (F5 or right click/refresh) your desktop to see if it shows afterwards.

If not, could you post screenshots of where you see it at?

Question: Jpeg

Hi,Im not very good with computers, wish i was....this may seem so easy to someone else, but how do i convert a word doc to a jpeg file? Ive created a simple logo that i want to use but system will only accept these files : -.jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .bmp, and .png.Is there a special program i need? or can i convert doc to one of these files? Please help.......Thanks

Answer:Jpeg

You can't save a Word document as an image file such as jpg, gif, bmp, etc. You could print the document and scan it in as a picture or you could just open the document and capture the area of the logo using a free screen capture program such as MWSnap click here.

Question: Zip A Jpeg?

I have this program where i have to upload 500 jpegs. But it will only upload a zip file? is it possible to zip a jpeg? I tried making a zipped folder with the jpegs in it and that didnt work.

Answer:Zip A Jpeg?

Yes, you should be able to zip multiple files of any type into a single zip file. I have never tried it with that many files though. Not sure if the Zip standards have quantity limit.

What zipping software are you using and what happens when you try to make the zip file (nothing, error message, etc)?

FYI, JPEG files are fairly well compressed all ready; you may not see much of a combined file size reduction.

Is it possible to change a GIF file to a JPEG file, if so how's it done?? I'm trying to put a picture beside my name on here, the picture i have is a Gif file....... Thanks in advance... Mark

Answer:GIF to Jpeg

It's very possible. All you need is some type of graphics program. Graphic Workshop is one of my favorites, and it's shareware. There are lots of these programs available, and I'm sure some of the others here can recommend others.

Question: Jpeg

Hi

For some reason unknown to me all the jpeg.images on my PC are now showing up as gifs.images and this is confusing software such as blue soliel which does not recognize this format.

My system is XP pro with service pack 2 installed.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to revert the jpegs back to jpeg format..

Would appreciate any help

TY Colzie

Answer:Jpeg

I think you need to go into media player preferences and set to default.
You will have a option to select formats, select all. Sounds like a program
you installed wanted to be default player, and does not recoginze .jpegs
I may be wrong,but worth a shot.

Question: mpg to jpeg?

can an mpg video be changed to jpeg or jpg? I have windows vista and used the windows media player to play it. I tried to e-mail it as a mpg but takes for ever to try to send and then it doesn't e-mail it, it starts over again. Thank you for your help

Answer:mpg to jpeg?

Jpeg or jpg is for a single image, not for a video. Hit pause while playing the mpg and take a picture, that's all that a jpg format would contain, just that one frame.

How large is the mpg? Most email providers limit the size of files you can send. 10 MB to 25 MB are common limits. If it's larger than that, you'd need to use something other than email, or use a program to split it into multiple smaller files.
And it will take a long time to upload, even on Broadband, no matter what method you use to send it. Upload speeds are usually much slower than download. If you have an account with 256 Kbps upload speed, a 10 MB Video will take at least 6-7 minutes to upload, often twice that, though it may have only taken 1-2 minutes to download.

You can transfer files using Yahoo Messenger or Windows Live messenger.
You can using a file sharing web site like MediaFire or RapidShare, or some Online Storage sites allow you to share files. The free accounts generally have smaller file size limits:

Free Online Storage:
Adrive - 50 GB, 2 GiB per file limit
DropBoks - 1 GB, 10 MiB per file limit
eSnips - 5 GB, 10 MiB file limit (50 MiB using their toolbar/uploader)
FileQube - 2 GB - link not responding right now
MediaMax Idrive - 2 GB, no limit, can be automated
Mozy - 2 GB, no file size limit, can be automated, 2 PCs max
Windows Live Skydrive - 25 GiB, 50 MiB per file limit

Idrive and Mozy are meant more as a backup service, so accessing the files form a different PC mi... Read more

In the thread about the Christmas scanner, the person has changed the scanned images to "jpg" but they come out "jpeg".

This doesn't seem to be a problem, and I know both settings are there under the same one (jpg, jpeg) I've seen the jpeg one before, but not often and mine always come out with jpg on the end when I save tham as that.

I was just wondering what, if anything is the difference and why it's sometimes jpg and sometimes jpeg?

Just something new to learn...

Answer:jpeg - dat or cue

Not quite sure why you would want to convert, most Dvd's support jpeg format.

There are a lot of progs for creating picture discs though !!

'DVD PixPlay' which allows you to create VCD slide shows from images,
videos and music and write them directly to a CD
http://www.topshareware.com/DVD-PixPlay-download-3127.htm

And 'PicsToCD' which is a program that lets you use your CD Burner to create

Question: JPEG to PDF

Hello! My teacher sent out a book excerpt that I need to print and read. Each page is a separate jpeg that I don't know how to manipulate to print properly. I'm not excellent with computers and so I *think* I need to convert it to pdf, but I'm not sure. An internet search tells me maybe something like cutepdf might work, but I think it might also be over my head. Is this easy to use? Is this what I need to be doing? Regrettably, I don't have a lot of time in which to do this. It's a last minute assignment, and I always need twice as long as everyone else to figure out computer stuff. Any suggestions or assistance will be greatly appreciated! Anyone who likes IT Crowd will appreciate that I'm similar to the character Jen in my understanding of the computers.Mod Edit: Image removed, not germane to topic, too large for signature ~ Hamluis.

Answer:JPEG to PDF

Yes, CutePDF Writer is very easy to use. Just run the CuteWriter.exe installer. Once CutePDF Writer is installed, load the jpeg into your favorite graphics program, and select print. When the print dialog window opens up, select the CutePDF Writer as the printer and click the print button. The save dialog window will open asking for a folder and a file name. Select a folder and provide a name if you don't like the default, then click the Save button. With multiple jpegs, using Windows Explorer(not Internet Explorer), you could select all of the jpegs you want to print by holding the Ctrl key down while you click/select each jpeg you wish to convert to a PDF. Once you have the ones you want highlighted, right click on the first one selected and choose print from the context menu. This will allow you to print/save(using CutePDF Writer) all the selected files into one(single) PDF file.

Question: .jpg not .jpeg

hi, I have purchased a 16" led backlit lcd tv and dvd combo for the missus, she likes to play audio books whilst in the kitchen so this little gismo which is also a mp3 player serves the purpose, I have downloaded a couple of audio books from the audiobook bay site and burnt them to a cd disc, at this point the burnt discs play on my pc and my philips dvd recorder/player but are not recognised by the missuses tv/dvd, apparently the files are .jpeg and the tv/dvd only recognises .jpg, all the downloaded files were mp3 as this is also the only format the tv/dvd will work with, so guys where do I go from here, where am I going wrong and  do I need a converter of some sort, I hope some one can help before I get another thick ear

Answer:.jpg not .jpeg

.jpeg and .jpg are the same format, just named differently. If your DVD won't recognize .jpeg, you just need to rename the file to .jpg.
