Preferred Solution: firmware reverse??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: firmware reverse??

You typically cannot downgrade a firmware installation. Some installers offer an option to save the original firmware, and can downgrade, but most do not.

In any case, partially burning wouldn't be a firmware issue. Faulty drive, media, or a burning application issue.

I am trying to coble together two non-working Zen Xtras into a working one. I receive a message: "Firmware Problem," and am instructed to reload the firmware. When I attempt to do so, the firware does not recognize the device although the device shows up in My Computer as a Zen Xtra. I have reloaded the drivers. When I attempt to reinstall the firmware, it states that it cannot detect the device and please connect it now. How do I resolve this lack of recognition?

Is it possible to replace a routers firmware w/ something other than the original firmware to update from wep encryption to wpa encryption and all the other features that these new routers have? If so is this hard to do and is there a big risk or really screwing things up?

Answer:Replacing router Firmware w/ third party Firmware?

nope its easy, and as long as your smart and follow the few basic guildlines very unlikely chance of damaging the router. Biggest suggestion is never do the update via wireless as if you loss signal or what not could loose a bit of data for the router update.

Hi, welcome to the forums.
Here it is the support site link for your model just in case.
I'm guessing that the computer is booting but the battery does not provide any charge, right?
I did not have that issue, but I'm just guessing, What will happen if you apply the battery firmware update again? You can download it manually from the support site: "Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-..."
This is what it cames to my mind right now, I hope it helps.

Question: Reverse DNS

I am working for a company that has an Email server for a few other companies. One of these companies can't email to verizon, aol, and other specific addresses. I think it has something to do with reverse DNS. I checked the postmaster error message and it said the Reverse DNS lookup for your IP address is failing.
Any help on how to set up Reverse DNS?

Answer:Reverse DNS

I'm not really sure what you are seeing. Every IP address (that's the numeric address) has a "common" domain name associated with it.

If you know the IP you should be able to "ping" it and see the domain name associated with it. Similarly if you ping the domain name, you should get the IP.

For example if you open a command prompt and enter:

you should see:

come up as the IP. You could paste that into an address line and get here.

If you run tracert

You should arrive at the destination domain

If you/they are not getting a Domain Name, the fault normally lies in the DNS servers which host the association. In that case, try the IP if you know it.

There is also a useful site here you can use for lookups:

Could it be they are being blocked for sending spam?

Question: Need reverse DNS?

I am working at a company where they don't have reverse DNS set up in windows DNS. I set it up for them, but our corporate office deleted the zones. I was always of the impression that you NEEDED reverse DNS lookup if you had DNS installed.

What cases would you NOT need it? How can I explain to our corporate office that we need it if we do? I installed it because we were getting errors on our DC related to reverse lookup. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows XP, servicepack 3 was running on my computer.

The computer would not boot up unless in Safe Mode.

While in Sade Mode with Networking, I was able to download from Norton, EUsing (a registry cleaner) and do a virus scan with Norton from which nothing showed except four cookie type items that I deleted.

After figuring that I am unable to detect a virus, i should do what I have heard to do, put an XP disc in my computer and try to boot up from it.

Now, I am unable to get back to Safe Mode because the computer wants to set up the rest of the new XP install. I don't think I asked for that option, i only remeber asking for the repair option.

Now I am stuck and am concerned, hoping I can get back to where I was and fix the comptuer to get to my original everything before any of this started to happen.

Please help!

Answer:can I reverse what I have done?

You should be able to continue on and at some point, such as when it shows you the partitioning for your install, you should be able to not accept it and it will ask you if you want to discontinue the installation. Try that out.

Realistically, you could just power it off and reboot it and it should allow you to boot into Safe Mode because it never finished the setup from before.

Question: reverse utility

it seems about every 10 weeks i blow my computer up with viruses or spyware (depending on the warez site that jacks my computer). this always results in me franticly backing up all my data to another hard drive and reinstall windows, which isnt that bad but my xp disc is sp1 (and getting it updated after install is a pain!). i dont use norton or webroot because they slow down my system and cause my memory hungry programs to go slooow. so...

at my school they had software that every other week took the computers and wiped out anything that wasnt supposed to be there. ex: if you didnt save your work to the server and left it on your desktop, it was deleted. it was ice drive or freeze drive i think, i dont really remember (it never loaded or had a screen during boot but it was there)

does anyone know the name or type of software this is? and would it work for me like

redo my system and put on all my music, videos, updates and programs. then whenever i screw it up just restore it to this state?

the system restore dosent work against malware and stuff but i think this software will.

im on cold medication so if anything didnt make sense im sorry ! lol

Answer:reverse utility

Any disk cloning program can do this for you.

Then again, how can you be sure that the original image is malware free?
I do recommend growing up and/or using a safer browser like Opera or Firefox

Question: Bind/Reverse DNS

Hi guys and girls,

Having a bit of an issue with bind9, trying to set up reverse dns for some ip addresses that (I believe) are delegated to my server.

Please excuse the fact that the ip addresses and hostnames have been psuedo'd, I apologise, but I am one of those people who doesn't like posting private information on the interwebs .

The ip address' I have been delegated are, and I am trying to use .4 and .5 as nameservers, and reverse them back to hostnames (rock and bullwinkle).

I.E. One of my users will put in:

Nameserver 2:

When they need to use my dns servers

Here's my RDNS file:

Answer:Bind/Reverse DNS

Ok, I've fixed that part of things . Removing "" from the NS lines seemed to fix it... I thought you were meant to have the top domain there? =/. Meh.

New issue, outside servers now trying to check up via mine, get the following:

Jan 23 00:00:34 m00 named[5083]: client query (cache) '' denied
Jan 23 00:00:42 m00 named[5083]: client query (cache) '' denied

It's denying them from doing a lookup... Isn't that going to stop it from propegating? Should I have this enabled? If so, how?

Thanks guys,

i know some soundcard's drivers allow you to do this, and individual software apps- but i can't find the core windows setting!

Answer:Reverse Stereo in XP??

I think the only way is if the driver supports it. You may be able to hack you way around it, but nothing built in would allow you to switch the output.

I'm curious as to why, actually I never understood why that setting was even available.

Not without knowing what was used to create it. It could be as simple as a script file (did you try opening it in Notepad?) or as complicated as a C# application.

Answer:looking for a page to help me reverse the min

Closing when you go to Minimize is very unusual, are you quite certain it is not in the taskbar somewhere? As for the rest, sometimes to get full screen it sticks if you pull out the sides rather than use Maximize. The other thing is when a window is in a sub-folder, next time it will always revert to the size of the main folder. In which case you make the main folder bigger and it should work out. Please come back and let us know the outcome.

Question: IP reverse lookup

Done deed, and no way to correct that problem. However, the survey software collects the IP address of each respondent so I can create a list of IP addresses. I think my 2 year-old turned on the laptop (Y510) and pressed the NOVO key.  It's the only thing I can figure.  Next thing I know they system is doing some kind of restore.  Figured I'd be able to do a system restore, but apparently EVERYTHING has been wiped from my hard drive.  I'm not hopeful, but was wondering if there's any way to restore anything of the laptop I had before, or do I have to start from square 1?

Have any backups been made on the laptop's hard drive?
If there were  any backups on the hard drive, they should still be there and you could restore the system with OKR.

Does anyone know a website that allows for a search on a person and show a persons children. I know there are Genelogical sites for ancesters, but what about decendents? Any clue???

Answer:Geneology in reverse...

Hi, troy welcome to TSG.
Unfortunately, I have no answer to your question, just a comment.....

I'm pretty sure that someone would have to input the information into a database for that info to be available to you.

For instance, if you had children born to you this year, someone(you or your spouse, say) would have to enter the facts about the young ones' heritage into an online database...I don't see how it could be otherwise unless the hospital does something like that (very unlikely, but remotely possible), but then you would have to know exactly what database, or website to access. There would be records that you might could find if you knew the state, county, etc.

MY wife sorta got into this awhile back and I don't think she was able to use any website to help with her specific family name, rather, she got a program (Ultimate Family Tree) and had to start from scratch, building a database - but none of it was online - (I really don't know how hard she looked) though that option is there if you wish to create a website from one's own research.

I probably haven't told you anything you don't already know, so to answer your original query, I wish I did, but someone else might.....

First, i have an ipod touch that i would like to access the internet from my house.
I do not have wireless internet, and do not want it because i am an internet gamer and a wire is the way to go for me. Also NONE of my neighbors, or my anyone on my entire street have wireless internet so i cant "borrow" it from them.
But i really really want wireless for my ipod, i found this site telling me that i could put a wireless card in my computer and reroute the internet out of the card instead of into it. That would mean that i get to keep my wired internet and have my computer as a wireless router... Right? Does anyone know of anything like this working, i dont want to go waste 50$ on a wireless card for nothing.

Right now i have a setup like this
modem > router > hub > my computer's.
I have two computers in my room, and can only install 1 wire from the router because we have 3 other comptuers, so i use a hub in my room.
This is extremely long, and any help is appreciated.
I will continue
would it be just as easy/easier to get rid of the hub in my room and get a dual wireless/wire router for my room (leaving out the rest of the system cause that cannot be played with)
or i could do router > hub > wireless router, but that would probably blow the first router..
Much thanks in advance....
im finished... i think

Question: Create reverse DNS

I'm trying to create reverse DNS although it's not working.

On DNS manager I created a new zone on Reverse Lookup Zones. When asked to enter the network ID. I dropped the last octet of static IP and reversed this. Then used this number as the network ID. The Reverse Lookup Zone Name displays I've created a PTR record on the new zone of the Reverse Lookup Zones. Added the last octet of the static IP to the Host IP Address and entered for the Host name. I made an A record called reverse in the Reverse Lookup Zone using the static IP address.

Do I need to also create an A and PTR record in the Forward Lookup Zones under the domain? Do I have to ask my ISP to update the reverse DNS or I'm I able to completely create this on DNS Manager?
Any help is appreciated

Answer:Create reverse DNS

If you need a PTR record for something like a mail server, then your ISP will need to create or modify it (if you already have one)

You have not provided your Windows version or your Internet Explorer version.
I am assuming Internet Explorer.
If you have less than Internet Explorer 7 - I would recommend downloading that.
If you have 7. You may try resetting your security settings.
Tools > Internet Optoions > Security Tab -
Click - Default leve, or Reset All Zones to default level - or if you have added some custom settings you may try choosing - Custom - then where it says reset to and by default it would be - medium high - (unless you have changed it) hit reset. - Try medium high if yours is on high.
After closing and opening Internet Explorer - if pop ups do not work then -
You may try - Clicking on the Advanced tab - then choosing -
Reset Advanced settings, if after restarting Internet Explorer - that does not work.
You may try - disabling add ons - several at a time - until - hopefully your pop ups work.
A shortcut to that is also to hit the "Reset" on the Advanced tab - it states there that it will
disable Add ons - google toolbar, yahoo toolbar, and other BHO's.

You can always go back in and re-enable them by going to: Programs > Managing Add Ons - and choosing them - one at a time - and choosing to enable them.

If you are using Internet Explorer 8 - best of luck - I am not using that.
Also if you have no luck you can try a different browser - download locations listed below:

Dont off hand know how to easily do this on your printer (without reading the manual) but just thinking out aloud and test this on some plain paper, is to open the image with XN View and then click from the top menu bar Image > Flip > Horizontal and then Save and try and Print.

What is causing this, and how can I begin troubleshooting?

Question: reverse IDE cables

I know this sounds dumb but I have to ask it anyway.....My HDD sirs at a 90 degree angle form the other drives in my case. is it possible to put the system side of the cable on the Master side and the slave drive side to the slave drive then inputting from the board using the Master end of the cable ?.. problem is I cant seem to find a IDE cable long enough to go from Master to slave from the MOBO ...

Answer:reverse IDE cables

They have new modular IDE cables that are round and also longer between the master and slave connectors...perhaps this would be a more workable solution than hooking up the existing cable backwards.

a few days ago my friend was using my computer to test some SATA device, i went in the other room to watch a movie with some other friends. When i came back i found that my IDE drives were not there, and my SATA drive wasent being shown in windows. My windows partion is setup on my raptors in raid 0, so those werent touched. Now all my other drives that arent showing up in windows, ARE showing up in the bios, and the boot screen. So i asked my friend what he did and he said he disabled the drives in my bios cause he needed to do something, he hasent had time to get to it to fix it. I tried looking in the bios myself to see if i can figure it out, but i cant . I want to do this sorta myself but i havent figured it out thus far...and i need some assistance, although im sure its quite simple. Can somebody help me to reenable these drives so they show up in windows? cause they are there, i see all of them in the bios and post. thx

Not Shown in Windows, but are in bios

IDE Primary=300GB Maxtor Diamondmax 10
SATA=400GB Western Digital
IDE Secondary=Pioneer DVR-111(B)

Shown in windows

2x Plextor 716SA
2x 36GB Raptors Raid 0 ( Windows )

Link to Manual:

Answer:how do i reverse this option?

again, another thread with someone mixing IDE and SATA drives. While it will work most of the time, when an error occurs XP will default to IDE and write OS data on the IDE drive, thereby jacking the system up. This can cause serious errors making data recovery difficult.

Solution. USE one type of drive or the other, but not both.

My printer, a Pixma 130 has developed a strange behavior. The sheets feeder instead of sending the paper forwards all the way, only advances a fraction, and then reverse backwards . I tried to dismantle the machine in search of a possible strange object that I never found in part because I could not reach the rollers, but mainly because I was afraid of not being able to ensemble back so many parts.

Any idea on how to solve this problem ?
I would appreciate a helping hand.....

Answer:Printer in reverse !!!! Please help !!

I'm not an expert on printers; but, I can deduct this. Correct or not, here goes:

If there is no paper jamming, no paper alignment problem, etc., the problem is not a mechanical one. Instead, it is in the instructions the printer is giving the mechanical parts. Disconnect the printer from the computer, disconnect the printer's power source, get out the printer's manual, determine how to print a test or alignment page without the aid of a computer, connect the printer to its power source, turn it on and print that test page.

What you are attempting to do is determine whether this problem originates in the computer or the printer. If you get the same response in this test, the printer is the source of the problem. If not, the problem is in the computer, most likely in the driver or other printer software.

you gotta' know where the problem is before you can work on it effectively.

I've got a couple of raritan KVM switches with emulation and I doubt that you can use these in reverse (one computer into the monitor/keyboard/mouse "output" and then one of the KVM "inputs" to one of the raritan KVM switch "inputs" and the other basic KVM input into another flat panel vga input (alongside my main monitor, just to monitor programs running on the non-internet computer. However, I've also got a basic 2 in, 1 out KVM switch without emulation, and I just wondered if I could use that in reverse instead of buying something like a dual-head vga video card? I'm guessing that when the basic kvm switch without a mouse & KB and only a monitor on one side, it would lock-up the non-internet box, though.

Answer:Can you use a KVM switch in reverse?

No, the KVM will not/cannot operate as a video "splitter" or dual video output from a single input.

The video driver electronics is completely one directional, designed to accept one of the two inputs, switching it to an output.

Can I run something that makes sure all of my folder Attributes are at the default settings?

I did something I didn't want to, based on this page . . . Windows command-line command to list hidden folders . . .

I was trying to figure out if there were any errors in what my bat file was doing.

To get the output, I thought I should go to the "Startup" folder in cmd.exe, which is hidden, and run: Startup.bat > testlog.txt 2> testerrors.txt

To get there, I would have to un-hide some folders.

I found the above page, and ran the attrib command with those switches.

I think I did this in the C:\ProgramData folder (normally hidden)

I think that I put this in an elevated command prompt, based on the second answer . . . attrib -s -h -r /s /d *.*. and hit Enter

Maybe I just put this in . . . attrib -s -h -r /s /d

I thought, I'll just go fast and not think, nothing can happen . . . then, of course, I read on that same page, also, that this can alter your folder attributes . . . they should preface that with the word "CAUTION."

I think I did see a lot of "NOT ACCESSIBLE . . . " flashing by . . . it was doing something.

Is there any way to tell if I altered my folder attributes or not?

I didnt realize it until i was getting messages saying my C drive was filled up; but apparently my hard drive has a C and an E file where the large amount of space is the E. So I have a few large files and programs on both, but i'd rather not have to do the whole reinstalling processes and whatnot...

So my question is, is it possible to have the E drive become a part of the C drive again, thus making plenty of room on my one, C Drive? It seems like it should be possible without having to format the whole thing... also, i am on windows XP

who wants to help!

Answer:Is it possible to reverse a partition?

What is the brand and model of your computer, or motherboard.

The E drive may be where the "hidden" restore of your Windows is located. Can you access E to see what is in it?

There are partition editors that will remove a partition then reformat that once used space and extend the existing partition to the rest of the available space. Acronis, and others you can find with a Gurgle search.

Fascinating as flecc's modifications of various Windows versions are, it occurs to me that they directly contravene the End User Licence Agreement in respect of reverse engineering. Most software EULA's contain a phrase that same as or similar to: "Limitations on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation, and Disassembly. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software Product, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation."The above was from the EULA for M$ Office XP. Doubtless the Windows EULA is just as restricting, or more so, than that. The modifications by flecc do, to my understanding, reverse engineer and/or decompile and/or disassemble the software product and thus break the EULA which is agreed to merely by the fact that the software has been loaded. As I wrote at the start of this, all due credit to flecc for attempting to break the M$ monopoly in operating system software but at what legal implication?Just curious and would like to know.?d

Answer:Reverse Engineering of O/S

As I understand it, flecc has not reverse engineered or disassembled the OS. He has removed a lot of the bloat, making it much smaller and consequently faster.Disassembling even a small program is hard enough - I've done it (many moons ago and legally). To disassemble Windows defies the imagination!

Question: Reverse md5sum?

Every program has an md5sum, it's like a digital fingerprint. These are used to show if a program has been tampered with.

I was wondering, is there a way to "reverse" the md5sum of a program? Like, putting in the md5sum into a program and it creates the program that owns that md5sum.

This would be very interesting and it could be used a lot instead of downloading.

Answer:Reverse md5sum?

There might be a third party software that ""might" be able to update the md5checksum, as i seen this possibility.
E.g. Swat 4 uses an application called "UCC.exe" with a batch script containing:

cd .\System\

..\..\Content\System\UCC.exe mastermd5 -c

I asked if I could amplify the sound card`s audio out volume because it was too low on my headphones. I have a pair of speakers which have a headphone jack and it amplifies the sound enough but the problem is that the stupid speakers reverse the stereo on the headphones. Hi guys,
In the Media centre section, there was mention of file2folder which takes files in a folder and puts them in their own individual folder, does anyone know of a program/batch file to do the reverse, take files from multiple folders and put them in one folder?

Answer:File2Folder reverse?

I'm not positive what you want to do, but for instance if I had several hundred songs in the music folder and I wanted to put them into individual artist folders, In Windows Explorer, type the artist in the search box, I get a list of songs with that name in them or that have that artist in the contributing artists column. You can then drag and drop them into the respective folders in the nav pane.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I live in Uk & have noticed a useful internet feature available in most other countries, namely a reverse phone directory ie. if I know a phone number I can find out the owners name & address. But for some reason our rulers in Uk do not allow us to have this service here! What we do have is the normal phone directory available online & so I am wondering if anyone here knows of some way of downloading that & then reversing it?

Answer:reverse phone directory

No, there is no free UK reverse directory (or "criss-cross directory") on the net, as that would be illegal.

You may see on the web that can sell you a product called UK-Info Disk 2002 for £199, which does exactly that, but I did a search for that product, and the press release says that although you can do some reverse searches (like searching for a postcode, or house number):
"You canít enter somebodyís phone number and see their address, as this is illegal under the Data Protection Act."Click to expand...

Up until recently,a A German company called Topware were selling a disc containing British addresses searchable by phone number, but BT took legal action against them, and forced them to withdraw sales of the CD.
