Ubuntu 9.04 - Audio from left speaker only

Question: Ubuntu 9.04 - Audio from left speaker only

(Ubuntu 9.04)
There were one or two threads about this in the Ubuntu forums, but they did not have suitable answers.
Sound, no matter from what source (VLC, Flashplayer, Rhythmbox, etc) is only playing from the left speaker. It has not always been like this, and I am nearly certain that it is not a hardware problem because this also happens when I try headphones, and both the speakers and headphones work when I use them playing music from my phone.
When I go into the audio settings and turn down left channel for PCM and Front all the way, audio still plays, very quietly, from the left speaker. Upon very close listening on headphones, there is actually barely audible sound coming from the right (obviously this is not good enough, lol).
Any help is appreciated.
(This is the first time I've ever been to this site or these forums, so if I'm doing anything wrong or if I posted this in the wrong section, sorry and feel free to tell me.)

Preferred Solution: Ubuntu 9.04 - Audio from left speaker only

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently discovered a difference in the volume; the left speaker of the laptop has been functioning normally while there seems to be very low to no sound coming from the right speaker.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 5559 Audio - Right Speaker has low volume while the left speaker functions normally

Hello. You didn't mention the headphone jack, so if you have not yet done so, plug in headphones and see if the balance is okay in them. If the headphones check out okay, then most probably it's a problem related to the speakers.
The test for speakers is the ePSA audio test. It is a hardware test, which means that if the test  tones are very low in the right speaker, but normal in the left speaker, then there is hardware failure somewhere, related to the right speaker.
If both speakers sound normal during the test, then the problem is in the software. Do the usual things like re-install the audio driver, check the balance levels in the Sound properties, try different audio sources, etc.
Re-installing the audio driver resets the settings to their default configurations, so if you do it then you don't have to bother with things like volumes and balance settings, because they will be okay.(Also if the balance is okay through headphones, then it should be okay through the speakers too.)
Here is how to do a simple driver re-install:
1.    Open the Device Manager.2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device a... Read more

Equal Left & Right Speaker Balance Causes T61 Audio Volume To Go To Zero on Front Audio Jack. -- SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD AudioWhen the left and right sound channels on the T61 sound card are set to be equal, no sound comes out of the front speaker jack for IE8 or Windows Media Player. Shifting the L and R off equal (e.g. Left 20 and Right 30) the sound comes back on. Moving them back toward equal setting slowly decreases the speaker volume until it is gone. I reloaded and reinstalled the SoundMAX driver, but no change. I really didn't notice this until we started with iTunes which definitely notices L and R levels on playback.  Setting L = R and, whoops, no sound at all. And, this doesn't happen to the onboard T61 speakers.  They work as you would expect the L & R to work. I am setting speaker balance from Control Panel -> Sound  -> Speakers -> Levels -> Balance This is really bizarre. BTW, 64-bit Vista Any suggestions?   I'd like equal L & R balance AND volume from the front jack. Message Edited by rmyork on 08-14-2009 09:51 AM

Hi,

Just bought a new set of desktop speakers.

The volume and tone controls are on the right-side speaker.

As I use my mouse, right handed, and the volume control more or less together for some work, this is a bit of a pain.

I can, of course, just move the speakers, but my son objects; for some videos and games, I guess it is important to have right-right, and left-left.

I have the Creative/Soundblaster audio setup.

If I do interchange the speakers to the way I like, is there any option, anywhere,
where I can have the left channel sound now going to the right speaker, and the right channel sound going to the left speaker ?

Creative, and the MS Audio options doesn't seem to have a way.
I don't want to re-wire any plugs.

Any simple way of accomplishing this ?

Thanks,
Bob

I know exactly what you mean. On my media PC the on board audio was backwards so I reversed the connections so it sounded correct. I then put in a Audigity 2 and that was wired correctly.
The only suggestion I have is to check out an electronics store or Amazon for a couple of cables so you can reverse the wiring.
https://www.google.com/shopping/prod...d=0CIABEPMCMAA
and then one of these if your speaker system has a socket on it, if not search for a cable with a socket on it.

I then checked and I found out that when I increased the bass in the beats audio control panel, the crackling increased. I tried troubleshooting and disabling and enabling the audio driver but nothing happened. What should I do?P.S. The right speaker is working just fine.

I finished a new build today:

ASUS Z170 Pro-Gaming Motherboard
i5 processor
16 GB DDR4 RAM
etc. etc.
NO SOUND CARD

When I plug my logitech 5.1 Surround speakers into the rear line-out audio jack of the motherboard, it only produces sound in the left speaker (I am only using the front left/right speakers, not the full 5.1 surrount). However, when I plug the same speakers into the front headphone jack of my computer case, both speakers work!

I have tried multiple audio drivers from the ASUS product support website, still doesn't work. I have tried uninstalling all drivers, and allowing Windows 10 to automatically install the driver. This doesn't work either.

Any ideas?

Went through the audio test for left and right channel output on youtube and tried to windows test option in playback devices windows 10,still everytime even if the animation says it playing through left and right speakers separately i still get audio from the left speaker both times. Is there some setting i am missing out on or is it a hardware issue.please help

Answer:Audio playing through left speaker only on dell inspiron 7567 laptop

sandy5837Is there some setting i am missing out on or is it a hardware issue.
Hello. This is the audio hardware test for the laptop's internal audio hardware. It works differently from the other tests. If no sound is heard through the laptop's right speaker during that test, then the cause is hardware failure. If it passes, then it's software.
If it is software, then download and install a fresh copy of the audio driver. Get it from your model's support page, or I can give you a link. Installing a fresh copy will re-set the audio settings, which would fix it if the cause is mis-configuration of the settings.

I'm not sure if it's a problem with my drivers or if my speakers are just broken. They were just kinda cheap ones I picked up at best buy, here's the model:

Insignia?„? - Powered Computer Speakers with Subwoofer (3-Piece) - Black/Silver/Gray - NS-PSD5321 | Insignia

Theyre unique because there's a central "pod" (you see in the picture) that plugs into the audio jack on my PC (it's also the power/volume control). I can plug headphones into that hub to switch the sound to headphones. From a the hub, a cord goes to the subwoofer. The Left and Right speakers connect into a single jack in the subwoofer.

My computer is acting like both my Left and Right speakers are JUST the right speaker. When I turn down the Right sound balance, both speakers get quieter. When I turn up the Left balance, the Subwoofer gets louder.

However, the sound balance when I use HEADPHONES is still just fine. It uses my left and right "speakers" correctly.

Are the speakers just broken? Or is it possible that my driver is confusing the speakers somehow? I googled and couldn't find anyone else with this issue.

I have had a 5.1 speaker arrangement on my Vista x64 PC for some time. Today, the front left speaker decided to stop working correctly. When trying to plug my headphones in to a rear jack on my motherboard (onboard sound), I noticed that sound was only coming through the right earphone. I decided to give up with trying to listen through my headphones for the time being and plugged my speakers back in, only to find that now my front left speaker wasn't working correctly. I tried to adjust the balance on my speakers, as I thought I could hear a whisper of a sound through the front left.
The front left speaker is producing sound, but at a greatly reduced volume to the rest of the speakers, I have to set the balance to the following to make FL and FR speakers 'the same' volume (by ear).
FL volume: 100
FR volume: 0
I have my speakers plugged in to 3 jacks on my motherboard (out of 6).
The green jack for FL and FR.The black jack for RL and RR.The orange jack for C and SubW.I have been unsucessful installing Realtek (which is a shame, because on my last motherboard I was able to solve the problem with that somehow, but I can't remember how) as it states the drivers are not supported. Which I'm assuming means my motherboard doesn't support it.
My motherboard is an MSI Intel p35 Neo.
I have had this setup working fine for around a month. My speakers are labtec (but I don't see how that would matter).I am currently using the normal drivers that come with Vista.Any ideas?

About 4 days ago, when I started playing music over the speakers I noticed that the right speaker was wayy quieter than the left one. The one on the left sounds like it should at a medium level of volume. I've already tried directing all sound through one over the other and the diffference is significant. I've also tried playing music that is mono such that the same level of audio is expected through both speakers. I can't determine whats wrong and this is so upsetting only having had this laptop for about 2 months or so. Could you help me out?

Answer:Lenovo y510p right speaker much quieter than left speaker

hi pmadhikar,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you consider doing the following:
1. Uninstall the Realtek Audio Driver (reboot if necessary) and let Windows use a generic sound driver and observe
2. Use an earphones to see if the volume on the left / right speakers are balanced.

If the volume is balanced using an earphones without adjusting the sound levels under Sound Properties then it's likely that the right speaker is showing signs of imminent failure. In this case, I recommend you report your findings by contacting lenovo as you may need to get this replaced.

Today suddenly the right speaker became louder than the left speaker( I think before the two speakers had the same volume level).
Then the right speaker just stopped working and if I test it, the left plays the sound.

The left speaker sound is deep.

What can I do?

Answer:Re: Qosmio F50-10G - right speaker louder than the left speaker

Hi

Sound more like a hardware (speaker) issue as an software (sound driver) issue.
So in my opinion only the ASP in your country could be helpful.

If the volume is low everything works fine, but once you turn it up using the volume button, the left speaker stops working. This only happens when I use the button, and not when I adjust the system sound.

I tested it with the audio configuration, and I can hear what's supposed to be the left speaker sound coming from the right speaker. Once again this is only if the volume button is turned up high enough, and it works just fine otherwise.

Another strange thing is that everything not only works right when the volume is low enough, but also when it's high enough. So the problem is not that the left speaker can't handle that much sound or something. It's only in the middle where this problem occurs. Does anyone have an idea what's going on?

Answer:Right speaker thinks he's a left speaker

The problem is REALLY weird, but I know the source, I think.

I've tried multiple players, replugging in the speaker wire and messing with where the sound should come from, none helping.

However, I recently got a headset, and I'm pretty sure it's the reason my system reconfigurated itself... The headset has one speaker part (which is weird, I need to return it anyway) and it's on the right side, and when I move the speaker volume to the left side it goes silent.

So for some reason my left speaker = right, and vice versa, and it only wants to give output from the side where I have my headset speaker part.

I hope that was clear enough..

Recently, my computer's speakers have been giving off a buzz/static after my computer has been turned on for a few minutes. Not only does it produce this buzz, but it also lags the audio and video display of anything I watch or listen to. This includes online games I play, Youtube videos, or audio/video files from my own system. I've read up on a similar problem for the Lenovo y550p on this forum, but the solution that was listed there did not fix my problem. I tried updating drivers and it still does not help. These are the specs for my system: Lenovo Y560Intel i7 processorWindows 7-64 bitCurrent audio driver: 6.0.1.6028 (currently using the driver from the thread about the y550p with the same problem)

Popping noise from left speaker. Sometime after starting the computer, sometimes as long as an hour later (sometimes after using an application with sound), a popping noise will start coming from the left speaker in about 5 or 10-second intervals. For a moment, it cuts the sounds coming from that speaker. Sometimes with 4 or 5 second intervals of no poping. Sometimes poping every 2-seconds. This happens regardless of earphones being plugged in or not. Plugging in earphones diverts all regular sound to the earphones, except the left-speaker popping noise. Unplugging the earphones often stops the popping sound for a while; sometimes it won?t.I see others are having the same problem, as shown on your HP Support Forum:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Audio/34a150-popping-noises-from-speakers/m-p/5941868#M56112

This ones got me currently stumped. When playing vid files and mp3's, I'm getting a harsh crackling sound out of my left speaker. This occurs in Media Center, WMP and VLC.

It's not my speakers or amp because Vista / DVD / 360 is perfectly fine.

I have tried installing audio drivers WITH and WITHOUT compatibility mode with no difference. I have installed / uninstalled Vista Codec Package with no difference. I swore at it with no difference

On my Old PC, I had no crackling problems in 7. With my new mobo I do. I have also installed the Asus mobo chipset drivers under compatability mode (wouldn't work otherwise)

So basically I've temporarily run out of ideas, however I'm leaning to a mobo chipset issue. Any ideas?

Hey guys,

Just for reference, I am running Windows XP Home, SP2

For the longest time, only my left speaker (and the bass speaker) played sound. If I turned it up really loud and put my ear close, I could hear sound coming from the right speaker.

So I just figured the left speaker was broken. Found some different speakers around the house, plugged those in, and same thing. Only the left speaker works.

I have tried numerous things. When I put a headphone set into the speaker jack in the comp, the right ear is all distorted and soft. I have checked my speaker settings to make sure they are set to Desktop Stereo. I have opened Volume Control and made sure everything is balanced.

I have no idea what to do now because obviously it is not the speakers themselves that are the problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Nick

I got a new 17 r4 a little over a month ago and have noticed that the left speaker has always sounded rather tinny.  Today I decided to mess with the balance and see if it was just me being weird or if something actually sounds off and it's definitely an issue.  The left speaker has zero bass compared to right speaker.  I realize that due to them being laptop speakers the drivers are very small but the difference in audio is pretty substantial.  I've made sure that I don't have any kind of audio enhancements happening so it isn't a software issue.  Also, when headphones are plugged in via the 3.5mm jack audio is totally normal.  It almost sounds as if the speaker is damaged. Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:Alienware 17 r4 Left speaker

AmazingBubbaB it isn't a software issue.
Hello. If you remove and re-install the audio driver and still have the issue, then most probably in the hardware for which you would need to contact tech support to get warranty service.
I would point out that your model has 3 speakers --  a stereo pair (the black rectangles) and a :subwoofer" (in the red circle). I am not personally familiar with your model. Since the bass comes from the single woofer, is it possible that the stereo speaker farther away from the woofer sounds tinnier than the one close to it?

Ive come to the conclusion ive blown my right speaker as it is hardout crackling and nothing ive done changes it. I was wondering how can I send all my sound to the left speaker. I tried changing the levels but all that does is turn off the right speaker i dont get the sounds that should be going to the right speaker coming through the left which is what i want to do. Is there a way to do this please help.

Answer:How do I run all my sound through just my left speaker

You can configure through the sound manager application of your system. For instance, if your system uses a Realtek HD Audio, you can configure the speaker using Realtek HD Audio Manager.

Connect a single cell battery (1 1/2 volts) to the speaker lead. You should hear a click if it is OK.

Answer:Left speaker is not working

Hi UMSid,
May I know the media player you are using (Windows Media Player/VLC etc) ?What happens when you connect a pair of headphones? Does the sound come from both ways?
. I would suggest a clean re-installation of the audio drivers.

Open Device Manager (Start -- Control Panel -- Device Manager).
Expand Sound, video and game controllers, right click and uninstall both the drivers listed
From the drop down menu, select “Uninstall”.
Ensure to check the box “Delete driver software for this device”.
Restart the computer.
Then check for the Audio drivers in Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs, possibly Realtek might be mentioned, uninstall the driver.
Restart the computer
Now re-install the latest drivers from the following link http://dell.to/154D42D
Restart the computer and check the functionality.

Hello,
Recently after opening up my computer for the first time and installing a new video card (SAPPHIRE 3650) I have no sound in the left speaker of anything, while the right speaker is perfectly fine. My new headset, my speakers that came with the computer and my old headset all don't have left speaker sound. I have checked the balances and they are all equal, if I turn them to the left I get no sound at all.

When I installed the latest ati drivers I disabled the hd sound drivers that it has so it the sound would work. The sound still doesn't work in any left speaker after a reinstall of windows I did a few days ago.

My right speaker and the big thing its on is working fine but my left speaker is not working, which means i cant hear anything just a buzzing sound. How do i fix this problem?

Answer:Left speaker not working

I assume you have a 2.1 speaker system (two small speakers and one bass speaker). First thing, check the connection to the PC. If the plug is not fully inserted or not making good contact you could only get one channel. Reseat the plug (unplug then plug back in making sure it's fully inserted). Same way check the other end of the cable at the speaker system (probably goes to the bass speaker). If that is not the problem, it sounds like either a bad internal speaker system connection or a defective speaker system. If it's a defective speaker system and you are still under warranty contact HP or the speaker vendor, if it's not in warranty look for a new speaker system as they are not repairable.

So I lost my left stereo speaker (corsair sp2500) on the floor and now there is a buzzing/humming sound when the audio gets too high.
Is it because i dropped it on the floor or can there be some other reason?
I tried switching left and right cable and the buzzing/humming stays on the left speaker.

I have lost my other speaker before and nothing happened. Can it possibly be something else? It worked fine before I factory reset my computer.

Answer:Buzzing in left speaker, possible fix?

By lost, do you mean dropped on the floor?

Could have shorted a connector in the speaker housing itself.

Hey guys, just got my new laptop (Toshiba L650) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, plugged in my external sound card (default 5.1 surround from Maplin) and updated to the windows 7 driver.

I only have three speakers and the sub plugged in (front right, left and centre), which is the exact same configuration I had on XP and Linux Mint. For some reason there is no sound coming through my left speaker.

Front right speaker plays correctly
Front left and front centre sounds all come through the front centre speaker

All cables plugged in and working properly.

Does the left speaker actually work? Try physically swapping it over with the right one (which you know works).

I've just contacted Lenovo support about this issue - and am sending the machine back for repair.  Symptoms:* No sound from speakers - though sounds works through headphones.* Visible bubble in plastic of cover over left speaker (wasn't there when I first received laptop)* Removing top plastic case reveals hardened melted plastic just above left speaker* Discoloring (rust-like) of the speaker head* Speaker head is "crispy" to the touch. Suspected cause:* Faulty speaker* Speaker wires are taped to copper CPU heat sink (I dunno how much heat transfer is possible through insulation + wire) Out of curiosity, how many other people have had this problem?  Which models?  Any ideas what causes this? I've read accounts that the overheating happened while the machine was off but plugged into AC power.  This raises the suspicion that maybe the always-on USB port is drawing power (therefore heat) which cannot be dissipated when power (therefore fan) is off.

Desk top PC running XP home. Here's a peculiar problem for you to chew over. I have four satellite speakers connected by means of a two way jack plug. Today however when I change the music source or shut down and reboot, both left speakers refuse work, until I unplug the jack plug from the back of the PC, and then plug it back in again, then they come on.This only started today until now they have been working OK. I've checked all the settings and there is nothing wrong there. Apart from buying another two way jack plug and trying that, I'm stumped as to what is wrong????The PC is only three months old.

Right speaker sounds strong and OK.Balance all to the left: Left sounds weak and somewhat in the middle and right is off. When running the Windows test in Quad mode:The side right, the left rear (Laptop's front left) and right rear (Laptop's front right) sound OK.But the left side speaker is still weak and the sound seems to come from the front right corner of the laptop. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you, Bruno.

Answer:Left side speaker not working

BrunoB, this is from an earlier post by myself in this forum:  Just curious as to whether this "sound image issue" is being addressed by the engineers yet. As I stated in an earlier post in this thread, the speakers are actually working, it's apparently the volume level and/or frequency range of the sub that is causing the sound to be heard coming from the right only. My Y510 was with the Lenovo depot in Texas for 3 weeks only to be told that there is nothing wrong but they did agree that the sound "appears' to be unbalanced to the right. Supposedly the engineers were going to work on the issue. Here is a quote that was on the paper that was sent back to me with my notebook: '"Left and right speaker output is good. Placement and volume level of the subwoofer is creating an image issue which cannot be resolved at this time." This quote is from Repair Technician Steve. Hope this answers questions out there. Unfortunately it doesn't help the unbalanced sound issue.'Message Edited by mikepasta on 05-17-2008 12:35 PMMessage Edited by mikepasta on 05-17-2008 12:37 PM

I've tried seemingly everything, but the left speaker literally drowns out the right speaker. There is sound from the right speaker, just not much at all.

I have to set the L/R ratio this extreme (http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6579/forumcw2.jpg) to get equal sound, and as a result I have to crank the volume up very high to compensate.

I don't know what it could be. I've even checked the actual cords that connect the speakers to eachother and to the computer, but nothing. Please help!

Hello!

I would need some help:

I know my laptop isn't the newest, but since some days suddenly my left speaker stopped working.

From External speakers or the headset also only the right one is working properly - only if i do not plugg the cable "properly" (only half way in the slot) the left external speaker is working - and therefore the right one isn't...

Any clue what could be wrong? and any idea how to fix it?

Thanks a lot!

Answer:Left speaker does not work on my Satellite M

Hmm?. I think it?s not a sound card and it?s not a speaker problem because both parts (left speaker and sound card) seems to be ok as you have posted in your message.

I?m not quite sure what could be wrong but possibly this issue has something to do with the headphone jack? there is a tiny switch inside the headphone jack which enables and disables the speakers if the headphone jack has been plugged?.
Maybe this switch does not work properly?.

What to say? in such case the hardware needs to be replaced but in most cases the headphone jack is a part of the motherboard and in such case the whole mobo needs to be replaced and I think this is not worth because of the high parts costs?

Answer:y580 left speaker not working

Sorry to sound stupid... So you tried music, right? And does it make NO noise... or static? Or anything? If music won't work and audio settings doesn't help (and it's complete silence), either something isn't connected (not too difficult fix) or the speaker needs to be replaced (more difficult fix).

Answer:Front Left Speaker problem

Hi niBBit,

Try swapping your front and rear speakers over (swap the plugs) so that your LF is now your LR and RF your RR. Test your speakers again. Are you now getting sound out of your LF with little to none out of your LR? If Yes then it could be your speaker (possibly a flakey connection in the plug), but if No(and your LF output, which is now connected to your LR speaker) is still low then it could be a soundcard and/or driver problem.

I've seen it posted on some other site forums, but have not been able to find anything here. Anyone else have a problem with the left speaker volume being much greater than that of the right side, fresh out of the box? Just got my new T420s and it has this problem. From what I have seen on the other sites, there is no solution to this. And Lenovo sales wants me to waste time with their tech support, just so I can return this defective laptop. I don't want a replacement, as I just dont trust the quality of these products anymore. Last T400s I bought had a defective mobo whcih caused random shutdowns, and now this problem.

My left speaker is also defective, but is quieter than the right one. I have disassembled the front panel a few times to clean the fan, etc. and i though i have damaged the speaker. But It could have been damaged from the beginning. Could it be some BIOS, driver issue ? I have a T520i running under Linux Fedora. I also don't have a solution.

So I had a lenovo laptop lose its Left speaker (Speaker Properties > Advanced > Test : Checked! , Balance : Checked!) and planned to have it repaired since this is the laptop I use for work (Mainly presentations and video editing) .

While scheduling for a replacement in a workshop I googled the laptop model tear down only to find out that apparently lenovo started with the speakers then belt everything else over it and honestly I do not trust the repair shop much to do the job but its my only option .

But then suddenly light came out from the end of the tunnel while fiddling with K-Lite player ffdshow audio settings :

So according to visualizer , audio streams are being played from right speaker only , and yes the source is stereo , I am assuming that if the speaker was broken visualization would render for both R & L speakers but yet no sound coming out from R .

I managed to delete the driver and went for windows defaults , still the same Left only persisted to work , re-installed latest driver , same thing .

So are there more solid means to test if this wasnt a windows issue or to fix this ? (Please exclude resetting windows or reinstalling a new one because this would consume plenty of time to get things back to normal again ).

I cant get any sound from my left speaker. I tried another set of speakers and the same thing occurs. If I use the front audio, I get sound from both though. I reinstalled the drivers, and it does not resolve.

This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the back connection or something.

I use the onboard realtek audio on my MAX3 mobo.

Answer:Problem with the left speaker not working

Hello. Test the problem this way.
1. Plug in headphones into the headphone jack and listen. You want to find out if the problem is only with the speakers or more widespread.
2. If you hear sound in both sides of the headphones, but, when you unplug them, in only one side of the speakers, test the speakers by running the ePSA audio test.
> Re-start the computer and tap the F12 key as soon as it starts to boot up. If the computer boots to Windows re-start the computer and try again.
> Select 'Diagnostics' from the boot menu, then press the Enter key. The ePSA tests should open.
> Look for a "Perform Quick Audio Check" button on the bottom right side of the ePSA main menu screen. Press the button and listen for the beep tones from the speakers.

The Quick Audio Check is a hardware test. If you do not hear the tones through the left speaker during the test then the speaker has failed or become disconnected. Contact tech support if the speaker fails the test.
3. If the speaker passes the test (if you hear tones through it) but still no sound through it when you boot back into Windows, then there is a software problem. Try re-installing your audio driver. Open the Device Manager and expand the Sound....Controllers category. Find the Realtek High Definition Audio Device and right click on it to open the context menu. Select to "uninstall" but do not check the box to "remove the software for this device". Restart the laptop and Windows ... Read more

Hi,

First post here.

The problem is that I am getting no sound from my left hand PC speaker. The right hand one is playing fine. I have unplugged them from the back of the tower and plugged them in again and this makes no difference, although I did hear some very, very low sound from the left speaker while the plug was halfway back in the tower.

I have tried another set of speakers and the same thing is happening with them, so I know the speakers themselves are not faulty.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Rich.

Answer:No Sound From Left Hand PC Speaker

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Sounds like a faulty socket to me. Are you using onboard or a separate soundcard?

If onboard, then try a separate soundcard. If you`re already using a separate soundcard, then try the onboard sound.

Hi there, I have a X1 Carbon purchased last month and predominatly use it on a docking station and thus use external speakers connected to the docking station. When away from home, I usually always have head phones in to listen to music; so I only noticed this problem recently when I was trying to play a slideshow for a presentation without any spearkers connected. My issue is that the left side internal speaker does not work -- nothing plays.  Only the right speakers work, with weird "crackling" sounds when playing.  It uses the Conexant Smart Audio...and I have reinstalled the latest driver, and also made sure that the audio levels are not only set to the right speaker -- I can put 100% for left audio, and make right audio 0% and absolutely nothing can be heard--it's only the right speaker that anything can be heard. Help?  Thank you in advance.

It seems like it would be just the left speaker because of that except for the fact that I tried two sets of speakers and the speakers work on other things such as tvs and Cd players.

I have not installed any new media players or any audio codecs and do not think that its a problem with the audio card because headphones work through the speakers. Any help would be very well.... helpfull.

Thanks, Chad

Answer:Problem getting left speaker to work

have you checked under your volume settings to make sure the settings are set to the middle and not moved all the way to one side? If you're not sure how...go to start, programs, accessories, entertainmen (depending on what os you have) then click on volume control. If you go to options on top of that window, you can click on advanced controls also if you have that and just make sure all the settings are in the middle.

Hi people,
I have this HP pavillion dv6516 with OS: windows vista home premium..bought it bout 1 yr back
initially the sound from the speakers wa OK, but after using it for a few months, a scratching sound started to come out of the left speaker when I play music or listen to some audio files(CD, Youtube anything).
Then I took it to the HP service centre...They attached external speakers to my laptop n the scratching noise came from them as well..the guy there told me that the speakers are alright n the prob is in the driverand told me to reload the whole OS,which I did,but no use....I have uninstalled and re-installed the driver for the realtek audio system a couple of time, but no use.....
Kindly help with the prob
the noise is so irritating

Hi all,I have a Y480; its left speakers generated negligible noises from the time I bought it. Recently, the left speaker does not work anymore.  when I put the volume at the highest possible level and balance all volume to left I hear a very low voice when I put my ear on that speaker. I am wondering if it is software or hardware problem? and could you please share the possible solution. Regards,

I bought an inspiron E1505 this past july, and recently i noticed that every so often, my left speaker would just stop working. I would gently shake the laptop, or tap lightly over where the speaker is, and usually it would turn on again.

It happens randomly, sometimes when the laptop is just turned on, sometimes after its been on for hours.

I'm assuming something is loose in there, should i try to check it out myself, or leave it to a pro?

Answer:Left speaker on laptop not working?

Depends on your level of confidence ....if a loose connection ...it may need soldering ....but google laptop repairs ....or look at this:

Be aware that if it is under warranty ...it will be voided if you open it.

I have a few issues with the sound on my Tecra. Compared with a friend's Tecra A2 my volume is much quieter, despite me having adjusted all the available volume controls. However, now the left speaker has given up the ghost alltogether when I move the balance on Wave or Volume leftwards.
Would a driver update solve this problem?

Answer:Tecra A3 - No sound from left speaker

Hello

In my opinion it?s a hardware (speaker) malfunction. I think only the speaker replacement can solve this problem. I propose to contact the service partner.
The right service partner you can find on the official Toshiba website.
If the warranty still valid, all changes will be done for free.

Bye

I just got a new T61P from school, traded in my t60p for it. Im having a problem with the speakers though, only the left speaker works. I messed around with the balance, if I go all the way to the right i hear nothing. This happens in Windows media player, and on a video on youtube too. So im guessing its not software specific?  Any ideas? Thanks,Andrew

Answer:T61p Only left speaker works

Hello,

I just bought a new PC which has AC97 sound drivers (S755MAX Motherboard). All the mixers are fine and I have tested all the my headphones, seems like there is no right side sound signal.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yesterday the jack got misplaced so, I placed it again like it should be and then i noticed that the sound only came out from the left speaker. So I tried using earphones and it was also the same. Then I remembered that I can put my earphone jack in my controller (GEMBIRD JPD-FFB-A), so I plugged in my controller and then my earphones in the controller and it was still the same.

Please help...

What do you mean by that? If you translated to English, something got missed in the translation.

Hi, I bought a Lenovo Y50-70 straight from Lenovo online shop and discovered the left speaker rattles whilst listening to music. I have tried uninstalling/updating drivers and that didn't help. I've tried using earphones and external speakers and the issue only exists with the built-in speakers. I have tried contacting UK support via email, however I got no response. The rest of the laptop works great, however I do not expect such issues with a 1000 laptop. Regards,

Hi,
I have just brought a nice little set of pc desktop speakers by creative labs, with a left and right speaker plus a little subwoofer.
The sound is excellent except the right speaker is not working, now as you will know that is the one that the power runs through .
Now i wondered if the connection at the back of my pc was loose or dodgey so i had a little play. weird thing happened. if i pull the green connector about 1/4 the way out i lose the subwoofer but regain the right speaker..(so i know its working)
If i push it back in properly i lose the right but regain the subwoofer.
Now i brought new speakers because i thought we had blown the right speaker on the original one we had with the computer.
But it seems that there is some sort of setting? maybe... I have checked the usual ones in sound and audio and it all seems to be balanced correctly.

Can anyone suggest a way to get both speakers and woofer working.
(I also went in to advance settings and selected stereo desktop speakers...)
I did notice it had a tab for 5.1 but not 2.1 which these are would that make a difference)
Sorry to be dense...
but with the speakers seeming to be ok, and the pc seeming to be ok... i'm stumped...

Hi everyone,Ive experienced a sound problem with the left JBL speaker. When watching a movie on 100% volume level the left speaker makes a sound like some sort of vibrations. I noticed this specially when 'movie mode' is selected on Doldy home theaterSo I sent it back to be repaired under warranty but when I got it back I still notice those vibrations even if the speakers have been changed as they told me. Now Im confused about whether its a blown speaker or it wasn't meant to run at a volume of that high when dolby activated.Thank you in advance.

Answer:Z510 left JBL speaker vibrations

The speaker itself may not be the issue.  The 100% volume maybe causing the speaker's mounting to vibrate or another piece in the computer's base to vibrate.  If you need the loud volume why not pick up a portable speaker system for the laptop.  Something like this.........

I had no problem with sound until I installed Winamp 2.91 and when I played my CD there was no sound coming from the left speaker. I checked my QCD Media Player, which played fine before this and it too was only playing sound from the right speaker as well as my other two media players which played fine before this. The only media player I have which plays from both speakers now is Windows Media Player. I uninstalled Winamp and yet the problem persists.
What could be disabling the left speaker in my other players and yet allowing it in Windows media player? Also, the odd thing is that, when I use the other media players, which now only play through the right speaker, I have use of the features on the CD unit such as the headphone jack and the advance button (to advance to the next track) but when I use Windows media Player I do not have use of these features. Confusing.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Angie

Answer:(Resolved) Lost left speaker sound

probably the balance has been shifted to the other side. go to the control panel and to sound. You can also click the volume icon in the systray. now check that all the volume balance are placed in the middle or not. Now open the media player that are causing problems and check that whether the balance has been shifted or not.
let us know
good luck!

Hi, I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite L650.

For some reason the sound is only coming out of the left speaker and no sound is coming out at all from the right speaker. Also even though I raise the volume the sound still seems very low. I have looked at and played around with settings and even speaker balances without luck.

Please help.

Answer:Satellite L650 - No sound from left speaker

Hi Rick1968,

Theoretically the left speaker could be defective and needs replacing...
What you can do is checking the sound settings where you can test different balances. Furthermore make sure that newest sound driver from official Toshiba website is installed.

By the way: Are you running preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba?
