Preferred Solution: podcasts and tv is jerky

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,My computer has been irritating me for months with laggy typing, when I close programs they do not disappear from the bottom bar quickly, when I try to play Spider Solitaire, the cards deal and move jerkily.I scan with NOD32 daily (NOD32 is updated daily). I used to run a paid up version of Counter Spy but have removed it because I don't like the program. I also run a paid up version of The Ultimate Trouble Shooter (like SiSoft Sandra) but can discern nothing in the process descriptions that looks out of place.I followed the Hijackthis routine to the letter and saved the log which I am posting. I didn't post it at the time as I have never used a forum before and got a little nervous about it all....*sigh*After I did the Grinler/Hijackthis routine, the computer ran well but now it has gone bad again so I have to do something to preserve my sanity.I did install Zone Alarm but have not used it for a couple of weeks as I never seem to be able to manage personal firewalls very well. While I was running Zone Alarm the computer was fine and now it is not so I guess that tells me something.Anyway, this is my HijackThis log file from a couple of weeks ago. I have compared all the numbers to the numbers in the HijackThis tutorial and cannot see anything suspicious. Maybe somebody else can help. Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. I apologize for the delay getting to your log, the helpers here are very busy.I don't find any indication of malware in your log. It sounds like you may have a hardware problem, possibly bad memory. You may want to post a new thread in the hardware forum.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...&s=&f=7

However, I am NOT to familiar with the term podcast.

I wikied it this morning and got the definition.
My question is where do I get these things, and is it as simple as uploading it to my ipod and listening to it?

Correct me if Im wrong, it could be like a discussion or series of shows or something in a digital media format correct?

Question: Tech podcasts?

I might be taking a rather short flight, but long (18h) road trip up from San Diego to Portland
next week. In looking for something to occupy my brain during the two days of driving, I wanted to find something other then Car Talk to listen to.

Any suggestions? The car has Bluetooth/USB/Aux for my iPhone/iPad.
Tech or non tech related is fine.

So far I have looked at Hak5 and NPR.

supposedly in another month, there will be a more enterprise tech/IT professional show on TWiT. I'm looking forward to that.

I am having great difficulty with iTunes - it's probably an age thing! If I "get" a podcast, is it stored as a file somwhere? What I want to do is to burn podcasts onto CD or a memory stick for playing on a device other than the computer e.g. CD player, mp3 player etc.No difficulty in using Nero to burn if I know where the file is.

The other day I was listening to a podcast and I pressed the windows key to go do something else and the podcast continued to play in the background (it wasn't snapped left or right or anything it just minimized and all was fine.

So then today when I tried to do the same thing, the podcast stopped playing until I opened the app again. They only way I could get it to work was to snap it left or right.

How do I get it to run in the background like it was the first time I used it so that its completely out of sight but I can still hear it.
Thanks!

I have just downloaded iTunes 11 to my PC. I have got Windows 7 wiith 4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD. When I play podcasts, they play for about the first 10 minutes and then stop! (the podcast I want to listen to at the moment is 58 minutes). I have restarted the software, after closing down. Same thing happens. Any advice?

Answer:iTunes podcasts [FROM: Mac]

Sorry, this forum is for running Mac software on Macs. I'll move this to Windows 7, and hopefully someone there can help you.

Some questions they may want answer too to help you better:
How are you getting the podcast in iTunes? (steaming or downloaded)
Have you tried in a different podcaster/media playback app?
Did it work with an older version of iTunes before you went to v11?
Are you sure of the total length of the podcast? (I've had file report them selves as xx minutes long, but are actually much less in length.)
It is doing this will all podcasts?
Have you tried different podcasts?
Have you tried playing other audio files that are longer than 10 minutes?

Hey every one,

Does any one know of a program where I can subscribe to my favorite pod casts, and have them downloaded to my hard drive every day automatically? That way I don't have to go to every web site and check to see if there's a new show added.

Thank you for your time,

Bigk

Something happened today where I can no longer download a podcast or mp3 file. When I click on the file, nothing happens. Perhaps coincidently, I purchased and installed the Panda Pro software instead of the freeware. I uninstalled Panda thinking this might have been the problem but so far I still cannot download. I tried to do a system restore but I get an error stating something is preventing this action. Windows 7 will not store a password, even though autocomplete is set for this. I no longer get the prompt at the bottom of the page asking whether Windows should save this. All the Windows 7 updates appear to be current. I cannot download TGS SystemInfo

Hello all,

I've heard a lot about podcasts, but am not exactly sure what they are. Do you need special softeware to get them? I wonder what the best ones are, and if you need an Ipod to listen to them, or can just do it on Widnows Media Player?

Thanks.

Ally.

Answer:Introduction To Podcasts

Podcasts are video's that can be played on an iPod Video. No other iPod can play them. I don't know if windows media player can play it (I don't think so). I hope that i answered your question.

is there a way to get podcasts on a non-apple mp3 player?? i have the sandisk Sansa e260 and id like to get some podcasts on it, i know its only a .mp3 files but is there a program that can get the XML feeds (i think thats what it is) onto my mp3 player? thanks

Answer:podcasts not on an iPod?

I've been downloading some Podcasts recently and I've asked the same question since I have an iriver mp3 player.

Surprisingly, I was browsing my "My Music" folder when I found some sub-folders for iTunes and Podcasts. mp3 files of each downloaded podcast were in there. I don't know how they got there but they played just fine on the iriver.

There don't seem to be any settings in iTunes that turn this on (or off for that matter) but I was pleasantly surprised to find the files.

I almost gave up trying to figure out how to post a question here. Good god, this must be for software engineers not home users.

anyway, how do find out if majorgeeks radio show is available in a podcast?

should be easy but I gave up searching on this site.

Hi Bill, now that you have the hang of posting, you may want to ask this in the "lounge" as there are more people who view post there.

I haven't heard of podcasting until recently and haven't had time to even look into it.

I've GOTTA believe this is intuitively obvious to everybody else, but I'm flummoxed...

I want to go out and download old episodes of Car Talk. They're out there as podcasts, but I can't figure out how to grab them... I don't want to subscribe and have something send me new ones every week. I just want to find things from say, 2010 or 2011 and download a BUNCH of them in bulk to my Windows 10 system. Then I'll put the .mp3s on my phone as needed so I can listen to them.

I KNOW I've done it for free in the past 'cause I have several sitting here, but I cannot remember what I used or how I did it.

So, what software do I use, and how do I download a bunch of these?

The m4v podcasts on http://videopodcast.johnnycarson.com/ can be viewed. I was wondering if I can download them to my pc? When I do so, it has an additional extension of .htm, instead of just the quicktime m4v. Then it won't launch from desktop. How to do?

Answer:Johnny Carson Podcasts

I right clicked on the podcast, and used the "save as" option to download it it. It saved as an .m4v file. Then opened it with Quicktime. It works for me...

TOP STORY ? info you need to make Windows workSPECIAL REPORT:Podcasts can infect your PCBy Brian LivingstonYou wouldn't think that playing an audio file or a short video clip on your PC could infect your machine with a virus or spyware. But the growing popularity of downloadable files called "podcasts" can do just that.A podcast is a new form of homegrown radio or television program that's delivered directly to your PC, iPod, or portable media player.Apple Computer released new iTunes 4.9 software on June 28 that supports "podcatching." You subscribe to certain podcasts, and iTunes automatically downloads new episodes when they're posted. Not to be outdone, Microsoft has announced that its new Internet Explorer 7.0 browser, due this fall, will support RSS feeds. These feeds can include podcasts as "enclosures," somewhat similar to the way e-mail messages have attachments. All of this big-time support is making podcasting hot, hot, hot. Glowing articles have appeared in the mainstream press. PodcastAlley ? which lets visitors rate their favorite programs ? lists more than 5,000 podcasters who've produced 80,000 episodes, all of them free of charge. That's up from zero as little as one year ago.To give you some idea of the scorching growth rate, Wikipedia reports that Google showed only 24 hits on the search term podcasts on Sept. 28, 2004. There are 13.7 million hits today.I'm glad that everyone's so excited, but all this... Read more

So what is the most popular way of doing this on a PC. Im coming from a Mac and i just used iTunes, but is there an eaiser way on a PC? I mostly just watch all Revision3 stuff. Thanks!

Answer:Auto DL all you're video podcasts?

You can write a simple shell script for a OSX and use cron and wget to launch your script. Since, these are large downloads, you can schedule it during the night time. Another option is podget. It is a tiny command line utility that can easily automated. I don't think there is a pre-made package for OSX. You can compile it yourself your OSX. In Windows, there is a GUI called, Juice and it comes with its own scheduler.

This has been puzzling me for a good while. All my applications that connect to the net works great through my router (Linksys WRT54G) and DSL modem. Gaming, MSN, BitTorrent, AVG AntiVirus Updates, etc all connect fast and smoothly.

Only iTunes has trouble updating podcasts which I don't understand why. I have opened up the 2 ports (3689 TCP and 5353 UDP) and still the update works very very very slowly before saying that there is a timeout.

I tried a workaround and used Juice to download podcasts, it downloaded fine but I didn't like the way it was integrated into my ipod (i prefer them in the podcast folder which Juice can't do).

I don't understand why iTunes has trouble connecting to the net as all my other applications work really well and the required ports have been opened too.

Anyone has any idea how to fix this?

Can anyone recommend a good, cheap, portable device that I can listen to my audio podcasts in? I bought my first Ipod player (this was the Shuffle) and despite its name, it is NOT suitable for listening to podcasts. I'm having way too many problems to list and will be taking it back in order to buy another one. I read that Sans makes a good inexpensive one called the Clip but did not see many reviews on that one specifically for audio podcasts.

If this posting is in the wrong forum I apologize.

I can't believe the iTunes interface. It's awful. I subscribe to some podcasts. I cannot figure out how to go to one set, for instance Car Talk, and then play them. I figured out how to see all Car Talk ones, but if I click on one, there's no way to play it.
What the hell is the matter with this program?! Oh, now I see. I click and there is a miniscule play bar at the very top of the page. So miniscule that if you want to start at a specific place in a podcast, you are out of luck. I am so sorry Zune is gone. It worked!

Please would some good soul give me a hand?! I'm completely new to iTunes and my painful disabilities prevent me from spending longer than a very brief period a day at the computer. I need to transfer podcasts (recipes from an Italian site) into iTunes on my PC from here:

http://itunes.apple.com/it/podcast/i-menu-di-benedetta/id467453812

In iTunes I've done: *Advanced* -> *Subscribe* and managed to see *Unknown Category* in iTunes podcast box. But I can't see how to go on from here, in spite of pointless attempts to transfer and play single podcasts from the above page. I'd be so very grateful for a clue.

Hello all,

Noob to the forum, been a lurker for a bit but finally joined, but not new to computers. First actual post, so sorry if this has been covered before.

On my home network, I have a PC that I use as a server for my laptop and tablet, and to store backups on. It is wire connected to my router.

I would like to start downloading 2 or 3 podcasts, some are daily, others are weekly, then stream them for playback over the home network. I want to store these podcasts on the server/PC.

My question is, what is the best solution to automatically download and store these podcasts? I would also like to configure it in such a way that after a specified number of podcasts are stored, the system would automatically start to delete or overwrite the oldest podcasts, keeping the most recent available for playback.

Opinions on best options and configurations??

Thanks

BT

Apple brings podcasts into iTunes

Apple's iTunes is widely used across the world
Apple plans to police which podcasts make it into the directory of shows available via its iTunes program.
As expected, the new version of the music jukebox software includes the ability to download podcasts.

By providing a directory of 3,000 shows, Apple says it is taking podcasting into the mainstream.

The software also allows people to send in their podcasts for inclusion on the list, but Apple will vet these due to editorial and copyright concerns.

Hello all. I have been trying to solve this one for over a month. I do a podcast through a streaming website called Youcastr and have been having problems dropping the stream about 2-4 minutes after starting the podcast. I am running XP home edition from a home built PC duo core processor 160 G hard drive, 2MG Ram. I have replaced all that I know how, realtek drivers, latest edition of Flash player (many times) and I still have the same problem. I tend to drop the stream when I am opening and closing windows, moving the mouse around etc. There is a player window on the website that has a big blue button that is like an (activex?) control that allows the user to pause and start the podcast. The button disappears when I cannot podcast. (yet I still get an audio "bump" on the Youcastr web player.) Also, the Adobe flash player says that I have data going through because the audio monitor in the flash player moves up and down. Therefore the flash player appears to be OK as does the Realtek driver. I am connected to the internet with verizon DSL, and task manager says I am using very little RAM, I have 2MG on the computer. The only thing I can conclude at this point is that I am having some sort of hardware (motherboard?) issue. I do on occasion get a number of "memory errors" when shutting down. Also, I have tested the site Youcastr with a bunch of different browsers with the same result, IE, Firefox, Flock, Safari for windows. I tested another PC w... Read more

I have had an iPhone for 3 years now and got into podcasts after I got the phone. I recently got a HTC EVO 4G and Switched to Sprint (not liking AT&T price hikes and Apples lock down of the their products) I'm loving my new phone but liked the simplicity of iTunes and you way you subscribed to podcasts and just synced the phone and it updated the phone with new unheard podcasts.

Is their a program/app that does this for android based phone? not too worried about the syncing part but the subscribing to podcasts and automaticly downloading new new one. I dont want to have to visit every site and DL manually.

Answer:iTunes like program for podcasts for android phones?

I've been playing with Google Listen. It's pretty good. Can download podcasts directly on the phone, and you can configure it to only do so via WiFi and only when charging. Pretty slick. There are quite a few for-pay apps on the market that apparently do similar things, like FeedR and DoggCatcher, but I'm cheap so I haven't tried them.

What my user folders looked like at first:

Notice how the OneDrive and Podcasts folders stick out due to the Windows 7/8-style folders icons.

So I found an alternative OneDrive icon in the image shell32.dll in C:\Windows, extracted it and used that one (Windows 10-style icon).

Then I created my own podcasts icon. I used the Windows 10-style folder paired with the Zune podcast icon to create my own custom icon. Here's the end result:

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I figured it's the most appropriate for the situation at hand. I have a 3rd generation iPod touch, and I've been using it mostly to listen to video podcasts. In the past, I've had no problem syncing certain episodes of podcasts onto my iPod touch, minus a few podcasts which suddenly refused to sync for whatever reason. Ever since the latest iTunes update, however, I CANNOT sync any new episodes of ANY podcasts onto my iPod touch at all. Any episodes before the update, I can sync on and off my iPod with no problems, but anything after is a problem. I've tried restoring my iPod, and nothing changes that. I even completely uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, and the problem persists. Please advise.

The player appears to work, it says it is playing, it looks like it is playing, but there is no sound or error messages. Do I need to download a codec or plug-in to listen to these feeds?
Any ideas?
Thank You.

I'm considering getting a Lumia 640 after five years of using an iPhone, was wondering if the WH-308 headphones allow for skipping backwards and forwards in podcasts, by 15 or 30 seconds or some other configurable amount?

Hello,

A few weeks ago, my laptop started falling asleep in the middle of me listening to music, podcasts, etc. It never used to do this. I have the time set to turn off the screen after a minute, and then a minute after to fall asleep. Before this started being an issue, it would not fall asleep if an audio stream was in use, but now if I am on battery power, it will. This morning when my laptop was plugged in, I set the time to turn off the screen and fall asleep to a minute for when it is plugged in, and it wouldn't fall asleep while I was listening to music, so this seems to only be an issue when I'm running off of battery power.

Thanks for any help!

I have a running machine here and I am about to format the hard disk to reinstall WinXP.

I know almost nothing about iTunes so I need help. This lady has iTunes, PodCasts, audiobooks, books from audible.com, etc., etc., etc. She lives for this stuff. How do I do this so that when I put her music and all this other stuff, she still has here music fully playable and all the playlists as well.

Any advice or links to internet sites that would be helpful would be appreciated.

I've tried two different phones, wireless and wired headset, and two different podcast apps. The 1520 loses 50-75% of my steps when I am walking listening to podcasts.

Question: Jerky DVD

Hi,I have an older eMachine with 256M RAM (Maxed out) running Win2K Pro.  I used to be able to play DVD movies on it using InterActual player. Awhile ago I did a system clean up, reformated the HD and reinstalled a freash Win2K on it. Ever since then, I can't play DVD on it any more. Besides from reinstalled OS and PowerDVD, hardware wise it's the same as before. I know this old dog can handle DVD since it was playing fine before. I just don't understand why it doesn't do it any more. :-? What causes the DVD to play jerky? Did I miss some configuration?MacPC

Answer:Jerky DVD

So, you used InterActual player before the OS reinstall and now you're using PowerDVD, right?  Can you reinstall InterActual and try it again?  Do you have your resolution and other display settings (monitor refresh rate, color, etc.) set the same as before the OS reinstall?  Are you usng the same video driver now as before the OS reinstall? How does the rest of your new software configuration compare to the old?  Same anti-virus?  Same firewall?  Same programs running in the background?  Etc.?Have you run Disk Cleanup since your OS reinstall?  You may have a lot of files in your Temp folder; might help to clean it out.

Question: Jerky DVD

Hi,I have an older eMachine running Win2K pro. It has 256M of ram. It was playing DVD movie nicely for the longest time using Power DVD. Somehow, I don't know what I did, I think it was after I did a fresh reinstallation of Win 2K, it started playing very jerky    Does anyone know why? Thanks

Answer:Jerky DVD

Did you install the latest video driver after the fresh installation of Win 2K?  Does Device Manager indicate any problems?  Run dxdiag (Start, Run, and enter dxdiag), select the Display tab, and run the tests.  Any problems indicated there?

Question: DVD display Jerky.

I have and old XP laptop loaded with Power DVD, presently region-set for American, because my wife has just brought a new, large album of DVDs from America. Each DVD has three short films on it, some of which play perfectly, some of which play well until half-way through and then become jerky, and others which are jerky all the way through. When I play other American DVDs which I have, they all play perfectly. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be wrong? I have heard recently of dual layer DVDs, and I know nothing about it If the DVDs were dual layer, would my lap top not be able to play them. Or is this irrelevant to my problem. Any ideas? Allan

Answer:DVD display Jerky.

Could simply be a matter of bad/damaged/poor media. If you have Nero do a 'Transfer Rate' test with Nero CD-DVD Speed.

You want it to look like this (it can be a little little more jagged).

You can get for for free, but it may not work with an ASPI manager.

http://www.cdspeed2000.com/download.html

Get Nero's ASPI and put it in the same folder.

I have uppdated to Adobe Flash Player 10.1 but the quality remains the same. I would be grateful for any ideas as watching catch-up progs. is becoming an eye strain.

Answer:Video on my PC is "jerky"

This is not a major problem, but it's something that has really been bugging me. My 3D screensavers don't have smooth animation. They are "jerky". I don't think it's a lack of ram, because it happens all the time...even after a fresh boot. Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried everything I could think of...updating my video driver, adjusting display properties, adjusting virtual memory, updating Direct X, etc. I'm running a Dell with the following:

XP home - sp1
P4 - 2.53 ghz
60 gig HD
512 ram
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420
21" Trinitron monitor (1998)

I'm not sure what this means. You always have the same amount of RAM, freshly booted or running for months at a time ;-).

This is from a review of that card. Not exactly "stellar" in it's performance:

"Overall, the Xtasy GeForce4 MX 420 isn't a stellar performer, though it's fast enough for common business applications and for light-duty game playing. In most of our tests, it couldn't reach 60 frames per second, even at 1024 by 768 resolution using 16-bit color, our lowest test resolution and color depth. Frame rates dropped considerably--by about 80 percent, on average--when testing the board's mettle at the more demanding resolution of 1600 by 1280 with 32-bit color, making games virtually unplayable. The lukewarm performance may be partially attributed to its 64MB of SDRAM--all of the other cards we tested at the same time came equipped with faster DDR SDRAM."

Question: Jerky Mouse

****ONLY FOR WINDOWS XP USERS****

I found out that you can run Windows XP FPS games faster by changing the binary numbers of SmoothMouseXCurve and SmoothMouseYCurve for the mouse. I did that, but I didn't see a diference. When I quit the game, the mouse started to jerk around when I move it fast. Can anybody give me their binary number for these so I can fix it.

To get to it: Start-->Run-->regedit-->click "+" on "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"-->click "+" on "Control Panel"--> then click folder "Mouse"

It is found on the bottom. Right click the SmoothMouseXCurve and click "Modify Binary Data". There should be 8 rows of 2 pair numbers and letters, put it down. And do the same for SmoothMouseXCurve. Post it on here.

Answer:Jerky Mouse

Can someone do it, please?

Question: Jerky Computer

Hi,Over the last six months or so my PC has become a bit jerky and laggy. What I mean by this is when I sign in to my hotmail account to check my email or use a web page which is java based, or most commonly when i am using media player, the mouse is very jerky as opposed to moving smoothly accross the page. Im not really sure how to explain this, I hope it makes sense.Thank you

Answer:Jerky Computer

I would guess you are using a mouse with a Ball underneath. Take out the ball and clean off the little rollers inside the mouse, best done with something like a nail-file or small screwdriver. Make sure all three rollers inside are absolutely clear of gunk! Your mouse will then be like new!

Hi. Now, i'm not going to bore you with some lame sob story or anything. I'm just going to give you the straight facts. I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 6000d. the problem is that my dad is a jerk. okay, i can't resist, here comes the sob story. I'm eighteen. My dad is a fifty-year-old four-year-old. when he first gave me the computer i was thrilled. this was the first time that i had ever gotten a brand new computer. before that, i always got his old one when he got a new one. (granted this was okay because he always got top of the line, but his idea of the perfect computer was that of a business exec, small, light, and power conscious) When he gave it to me, however, he only needed one sentence to completely crush me. I wasn't going to be an administrator. I was devastated. Of course, he figured that i was going to install all sorts of games on my pc. not true. i have long since come to the conclusion that, if you are going to play video games on a PC, then you need to have one completely dedicated to gaming, which i don't. Now i have a 7 day trial for Keyhole PRO. for those of you who don't know what keyhole is, it is a program that provides access to the entire mapping industry. In other words, its like a spy satellite uplink only not live. It uses massive archives of both satellite imagery and high-altitude photography to render (in 3D sometimes) many major cities and popular tourist points. there are not many things that i want to install, but i ca...
