I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just upgraded my OS to Win 7, but I realised that when I play any sound, it come out of my speakers fine, but my headphones has no sound at all. How do I solve it? I plugged my headphones into the original jack, I have also tried plugging them into the other jacks, but still there is no sound. How do I fix it so both my speakers and my headphones has sound? If I plug my headphones into the jack I plug my speakers in, there is sound in my headphones though ..

Answer:Problem with sound - Speaker works but headphones has no sound

try double clicking on volume control and see if headphone is muted.

Hey,

If this is the wrong forum for this question then I apologize in advance.

I'm having some problems when I try to record music.

I have my microphone plugged in, but whenever I sing/play into the microphone, the sound only comes out from the right speaker. Therefore, when I mix my songs using my software, the sound is still only coming out of the right speaker, which is very frustrating. This also means that if I listen to my songs on my iPod, the music is only coming out of the right headphone.

If I listen to songs from CDs or whatever, or just any other sound on the computer, the sound is coming out of both speakers simultaneously as is normal. I only have problems when I am using my microphone.

I am using Windows XP (2002 Home Edition) and Realtek HD Audio Manager. My speakers are ViewSonic Speakers, which entails a subwoofer and two smaller speakers (the left and right ones). I plug my microphone into the blue 'Line In' port at the back of my computer rather than the pink 'Microphone' port, because this is what works best for the recording/mixing software I am using, but even when it is plugged into the 'Microphone' port I have the same problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much,

Tim.

Answer:Sound problem: Mic sound only coming out of one speaker

Either the Microphone cable is not plugged in correct.Try not to plug it in all the way/or push it in further. Sometimes you have to play around with it to get them to work. Or you might have the balance on the microphone on one side which is a setting in the Sound Icon. Double click on The Icon and then options and then on Properties. Make sure There is a check mark next to Microphone and then click OK. You should see the Microphone settings on the screen and make sure the balance is in the middle. If none of this works you might need a new Microphone.

Answer:Speaker problem - No sound in one desktop speaker

When you borrowed your friends speakers, was it the same speaker, left or right, that didn't work?  If so, it must be a bad jack on your computer.  Plugs and jacks work on simple physical contact with a spring like action and sometimes they get warped.Sometimes you can push the contacts back into the right position, and sometimes you can't.  Open up your case, power off of course, plug in your speakers, and see if you can see where the plug and the jack are missing contact (not always possible).

Answer:Speaker problem - No sound from one desktop speaker

It very much sounds like a defective female jack receptacle on the "speaker/lineout" output. I assume that your results from the headset status was done from the headset/microphone jack as opposed to the "speaker" jack? If these are powered speakers you can try them in the headset output and at least determine if both speakers work. Alternatively you can also test your speakers on another computer to eliminate the possibility of a defective speaker.I don't know if your audio software provides for a left/right speaker mute if so you might check to ensure whichever side is not producing audio is NOT muted. I again assume this is a recent occurrence to something that had previously worked properly? Have you recently changed anything associated with the sound? Is your sound on-board or a standalone card?truenorth

I'm looking for sound effect program.I had program 10 years or so , I think it was sound blaster live ( not sure) had some thing similar .Want I wont is program that will add sound effect to sound coming through my computer speakers or headphone. The different sound effects that make your voice sound deep ,less muffled voice, tunnel ,echo ,slow talking ,sound like you talking in small room ,car or out side.

I wont it for both music/sound/audio streaming from the internet and music/sound from the computer , I have on the computer. And be able to go in setting and turn it or off or add or remove effects.

I'm not sure but I think it was sound blaster live I had ,that had some thing similar to add effect to sound coming through the computer speaker or headphone.

Note I have windows 7 .So some thing that works with windows 7.

Answer:I'm looking for sound effect program , sound coming through the computer speaker

Creative (ie: Sound Blaster) has had that type of setting in their software for years. The Creative/Sound Blaster software is for their chipsets only. There could be a similar audio tool that works with any audio source, but I'm not familiar with any.

I have an MSI 785GTM-E45 Mother Board. I have no sound coming from the speakers. Tried new speakers and still no sound. If I click on the speaker Icon on the bottom right it shows the speaker graph going up and down as sound is being produced. I tried the head phones and nothing coming from them either. I tried playing a CD and nothing from there either. I first noticed it when I was trying to play something from YOUTUBE and thought it might just be the site but then I tried off line as well. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. This is the first day that I have noticed it. Thanks for any help. I have checked all the settings I can think of but probably have missed something somewhere.

Answer:No sound from speakers but showing sound graph on speaker control

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. In the Playback section, set your "Speakers" as the Default Playback device (if it's not now set). Then see if you have speaker and/or headphone sound.

My Y50 had the left speaker clicking sound and muffled sound from day one (last month) March 2015After much time and pain I worked out the problem was the cooling fins next to the cooling fans were flexing and I presume touching the left speaker wire which runs along under neath the cooling fins. I could get the clicking sound to happen every time if I applied a small amount of pressure on the cooling tubes that sit on top of the cooling fins.I then placed a small piece of cardboard on the left side under the cooling fins to raise them only about 2 mm and this has fixed the problem. no more damm clicking sound and muffled sound Hey Lenovo fix you effin Y50 laptop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, first post, first Lenovo.I am a teacher.  A Lenovo A57 9702 was donated to our school and I got it.  It has a Vista basic sticker on it, but has been upgraded to Vista Business.  I think it?s a brand new machine.  My problem is that the only sound I get is from the onboard speaker.  The front and back sound jacks are not outputting sound.  Plugging in speakers or headphones won?t even cut out the onboard speaker sound; it?s like they are not even connected. If you have a clue, thank you!

Answer:A57 sound from onboard speaker only; integrated sound jacks do not work.

I installed the A57 audio drivers.  Afterward it said that they may not have installed correctly.  It still does not work. Thank you.

I have recently purchased an HP Omen17 to replace my 10 year old HP Pavillion DV9000 17 inch which is still going strong but is a litle slow with Windows 10 software. Amongst many cost cutting measures evident on the HP Omen the sound is my standout disappointment with what should be an excellent machine.    Other gripes include the small return / up / down arrow keys and keyboard offset. General disappointingly cheap feel and poor storage options off the shelf. (I have already rectified the poor storage by replacing the ssd with a 512GB and the HDD with a 2TB ). Before someone comes back and tries to get me to reinstall software...NO it isn't drivers - the speakers really are appalling.........The bedrock components of a laptop (screen / speakers /keyboard etc.) should be good (Screen is OK to be honest) but there is no excuse for a large laptop like the Omen (aimed at gaming) to have such poor speakers - especially when a machine from the same company 10 years ago had it nailed. The Altec Lansing speakers on the DV9000 from 2006 were spot on - crisp - well defined and sufficently loud when needed.   I will stick with the HP Omen because of the time and money already invested.  Yes I can plug in some 3rd party speakers and a decent keyboard at teh cost of portability - but shame on HP for sacrificing a good thing and worsening the experience of their customers - and for B&O for not having a d... My right computer speaker took a spill.  There is static and the volume won't turn up.When plugged into the power, there is static and buzzing.  When also plugged into the computer, there is static and no buzzing, and I can hear music very faintly.  This is unaffected by the position of the volume knob.  The volume knob itself is pressed in from the frame a ways, I don't know if it was already like that.  I think it wasn't, but it doesn't seem like it's moveable at all (back into place, I mean - it still sturns like it's supposed to).   When the left speaker is plugged into the right one, the left works well and the volume knob does have the desired affect on that speaker, with no change in the static from the right one. What is wrong with my speaker?  It sounds like something must be disconnected.  I'm hoping it's a lose wire or something else I can fix.  Also, plugging the left speaker directly to the computer works but is unamplified (not ideal)- is that okay to do?Any help or further information is much appreciated.

I am using:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP1; internal speakers (laptop)

I cannot adjust my volume control or any other sound/audio properties - a dialog box comes up saying "There are no active mixer device available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware."
All the options in "Sound and Audio Devices Properties" have also been greyed out.

I've tried what the dialog box suggests - but my sound devices have already been installed. Windows alert sounds can be heard, music in Internet Explorer can be heard, but Windows Media Player music cannot. Nothing wrong with my speakers, I don't think!

I haven't any hardware or software recently. The drivers appear to be working fine, at least it says so in Device Manager.

I, being the complete and utter noob that I am, do not have any idea what is wrong and how I can fix it. Anyone who can help? Thank you (in advance)!

Now even after i inserted there still sound from the speaker. How can i set it so there will be no more sound after earphone is inserted?

The RealTek control panel should have the options for what the rear speaker jack does (either mute or not when the front headphone is connected).

You can access the Realtek panel from Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

Hi I dunno much but I have this suggestion, try to open your case and see what sound card you have. If it come with your mainboard, use your mainboard disc and isntall the driver for the soundcard.. If it is an external card, try to identified the brand and series..(i never have an external soundcard before so dunno if brand and series usually write on the card or not..mine come with the mainboard) and then google for the site of the brand and look for the driver... Hope it work for you.

Used my computer after work to listen to music with headphones in and it sounds rubbish, bearable but rubbish. I have Sennheiser headphones that usually sound fantastic, they still do sound fantastic on my phone listening to the same song on Spotify.

Anyway, tried Spotify and YouTube and the music just sounds rubbish, kind of flat and no bass. Tried using the audio adjustments and it's not really made a difference. It was fine this morning.

The laptop's built in speakers sound as bad as usual, better than the headphones though which isn't right at all.

Really am stumped as to why this has happened.

Answer:Headphones sound rubbish in laptop today

Assuming nothing has happened to the hardware from the last time you used it, if you have a System Restore point that is when it did work, try restoring the PC back to that date and see what happens.

This is a really weird situation. I walked across a carpet and then touched the volume knob on my 2.1 computer speakers to turn them down, but when I walked across the carpet I built up a static charge and when I touched the knob the charge jumped about a 1/4 of an inch and went into either the bass knob or volume knob. After that happened I heard a loud pop from the speakers and then they stopped working. I unplugged them and plugged them in and they started working again, but now the bass knob doesn't do anything, the speakers constantly pump out full bass. I have no clue what is wrong, I would have thought it would be the rheostat, but that should stand up to low current high voltage shouldn't it?

Answer:Problem with my speaker's bass sound

The static charge probably "burned out" the bass control circuit. That "small" spark could have been in the 100,000 volt range. Could this damage? YES!

I use a 4.1 surround sound setup with onboard sound, and I can't seem to get sound from my rear speakers. I only get sound from the front. I didn't update any new sound drivers, and used the Microsoft and ATI ones.

When I do the sound test, it shows that the 4 speakers show some sound activity from the green status bar.

But no sound is coming from the rear speakers. I switched my speakers around to test if the speakers themselves are faulty (and they aren't). I went to the RealTek website and downloaded the latest driver. After installation it prompted me to restart. After restart, all my files in my desktop disappeared! My rear speakers are still not making any sounds after the new driver. I did a system restore to get my desktop files back.

I had nearly the exact same problem when I used Windows XP x86 (the difference being my desktop files weren't deleted when I installed the latest RealTek driver in Windows XP).

These speakers used to be connected to a Sound Blaster card from an old computer, and the surround sound worked on that.

Can anyone help me?

Hi, I just purchased a SONY VAIO desktop computer and decided not to use the stock speakers, but to use my Viewsonic speakers. It didn't make any sound! Nevertheless, when I tried with the stock SONY (cheap) speakers, then it works.

Observation: The plugs of both speakers are exactly the same size and type. They both have AC plug for power. I tested the Viewsonic speakers on another desktop computer and it worked perfectly.

Anyone knows what the heck is going on?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to TSF

Although the speaker plugs are the same I wonder if they are wired to operate on the same channels.

Try going to Sound and Audio Devices in the control panel and on the volume tab go into Speaker settings>Advanced>Speaker Set-up and try changing the set-up on the drop down menu.

Answer:HP laptop no sound from speaker but there is sound through headphone

Laptop speakers are generally very delicate and if played on full volume can be blown very easily. My Dell Vostro's right speaker has gone like that while I was watching a movie on VLC player with volume more than 100%. So people using VLC player, should be careful with the sound controls within the player. This is my experience with laptop speakers. I hope you did not have this problem.

On the system tray right click on the speaker icon, select Playback devices.

On the opened Sound Dialog box, make sure that Speaker icon has a green check mark as shown below. Click on Configure button and test the speakers working or not. Complete the speaker setup and close the dialog box.

Check the properties and make suitable adjustments in available tabs.

I have hp dv1738od and have upgraded to Windows 7, previously Windows XP. Everything seem to be working ok except, for the sound. Window 7 automatically installed the driver, and said the sound card was working properly. But there was no sound through speaker.

I removed the driver and reinstall the driver that I got from HP website that work for Window Vista. Installation went through with no problem and Device manager indicated no isssue on sound driver. However there was still no sound coming out from the speaker, only through headphone jack.

I read tons of forums, and some has suggested that it may be the jack connection. I tried plugging in and out numerous time, and that did not solve the issue. Sound could be heard for like a sec, when headphone was being plugged out but it goes away quickly. To determine if it was hardware or software issue, i reinstalled Window XP and there was sound through speaker. So for sure it is not the speaker issue.
If anybody can help me out, I greatly appreciated.

Answer:HP laptop no sound from speaker but there is sound through headphone

Hi imek and welcome to the forum!

I would assume that you are running the 32-bit version of Windows 7. If you are, you're in luck. Please download the latest BIOS and software for your HP Pavilion dv1738od, here.

I would suggest that you try using the audio driver found in this page to check if that resolves your issue. If it doesn't, it is highly recommended that you update your BIOS, found in the link provided, that might correct the issue you're having.

Let us know how it turns out

Hi I just got a new Lenovo Yoga 710 14IKB today and i've been noticing that sometimes when I'm watching video's on Youtube the sound only starts playing after 5 seconds. So the video is already playing but the sound starts at 0:05 (the delay is always the same amount of time). I don't have this problem with every video, it seems to be a random thing and it only happens when watching videos on speaker, the problem does not happen when I'm listening through my earphones. It's not a major problem but it's still quite annoying. Is there a way I can fix this myself? I'm not realy knowledgeable when it comes to these kind of things, the only thing I know how to do is reinstall the drivers.

I have a Dell Laptop Inspiron 5150 running Windows XP Home Service Pack 2 and I am trying to use Harman Kardon Sound Stick Speakers. These were connected via the speaker/headphone jack and worked for a fews days and then stopped. I have tried all the hardware tests within Windows and checked back with Dell. I have also loaded the new driver that Dell suggested, but still no good. There is either no sound or sometimes there is just distortion. The Sounds Sticks work fine with my MPŁ Player. It may be a coincidence but at the time the speakers stopped an Halogen Bulb in my ceiling light fitting also blew. It was shining onto my desk where the laptop was located. Any suggestions?

1. I have disabled sounds for windows alerts and for the modem itself and still I hear the modem dialing and trying to connect through my speaker system. Any ideas on how to disable this or what I might be missing?

2. I got a new pc and needed to add a pionner dvd burner and it is physically not possible to make them go together properly. I end up having a wide space opening cause I got to put the drive all the way back to screw it down. Also the case's face is round while as far as I know all these drives are flat on their face ends. Any clues here?

Answer:Speaker/Modem Sound problem and Case/Burner don't fit problem

Have you muted it in volume controls and control panel\modem properties

The fronts of drives are interchangeable they can be unclipped, from what you have described the front of the old drive is round to fit the case, you need to unclip it and clip it to the new drive

I may have a solution. Remove any Realtek/Lenovo driver and let Windows install generic driver. If the problem persists, then my guess is it is a hardware issue with the switching mechanism.

Hi Everybody!

All of a sudden my speaker icon is missing from taskbar & sound is only coming through the LEFT speaker. The RIGHT speaker is still working but you can only hear SOME sound and it's very low, all the rest of the sound is going to the LEFT speaker now and the volume icon on the taskbar is gone now so I can't even check the settings there. This all happened out of nowhere! Everything had been working fine for a long time before this happened. I don't understand.

Is this some kind of malware problem rewriting the codes or something? I saw this could be the problem on previous posts. I am NOT knowledgeable with computers but I learn fast if you can walk me through the steps.

I have windows 7 professional on a 32 bit system.

The option "Show or hide volume (speaker) icon on the taskbar" in the Control Panel is grayed out and I cannot change the setting on it.

I've been looking thru past threads and I'm still not finding a solution that works for me.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated!!

Thanks so much!!!
:cool

I recently installed a new motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990FX. It has an on-board sound card "Realtek? ALC 892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC". I'm using 5.1 surround speakers from creative. Speaker fill with windows update driver, or Realteks driver from Asus' website, has the same outcome.

The problem is that the back speakers, when playing music, sound like an mp3 playing at 24kbps or something of the sort. This is not the first time this has happened, and ever since windows vista, this problem has occurred in every on-board sound card i have dealt with. I have heard different reasons such as DirectSound3D Hal in Windows Vista being removed, on-board sound cards just sucking, drivers sucking, etc.

The only time the rear speakers sound right, is when i test the speakers with windows, with the software from Realtek, Or using some media player that i cant remember the name of anymore that had an option to fix this problem only for music played in that media player. But I just want all sound to play through them right. I don't watch movies on this computer and usually don't play any games, so i don't really care about the surround affect. I just want all the speakers putting out sound in stereo.

At this point I really don't care if i need a third party software to fix this issue and just for the record, no I do not have room in my system for an internal sound card, and I really don't want to deal with an external one either. I'd rather just never fix the i... Read more

Answer:Realtek onboard sound card with 5.1 surround speaker fill problem

The first step once confirmed that the correct drivers and by the way sound app is installed is to set to the speaker settings for 5.1 or 4 speakers depending on preference. You may want to check on the Windows sound mixer settings as well since many often forget about that other mixer being there.

The first test once the settings are looked over is going into the Control Panel>Sound section there to run the test/configuration wizard which will verify each pair of speakers first front then back as you go along. That is found in the Playback tab when first clicking on the CP>Sound and seeing the popup window appear.
(refer to attached images for both Windwos sound mixer, Sound configuration wizard)

As you will see from the second image there for the configuration wizard I use a separate expansion card(preferred here) while you would still look through that wizard. With the Creative Audio Console/Volume Panel you generally expect a move evolved mixer.volume control panel while most onboard sound setups also provide some smaller form of mixer app you would need to look at as well.

Another trip up found with some 5.1 speaker sets is on the center speaker or other volume and balance controls where sometimes tweaking them is required when it seems sound will drop off from the rear speakers. If the bass is up a bit the quality of sound from the rear pair despite having a woofer below can suffer! Then you have to tweak the tremble if these controls are present to clean up th... Read more

I thought migration from Vista to 8.1 had gone too smoothly. Sound works after restoring defaults in Creative Diagnostics but on close down error message " VolPanlu.exe - Application Error The instruction at 0x6fdcf2ae referenced memory at 0x02439aa4. The memory could not be read. OK." I re-installed Creative SB X-Fi Extreme Music software and updated to the 8.1 driver. How can I get the pc to remember to save the sound settings please?

Answer:Sound then no sound, vista to 8.1, VolPanlu (Sound Blaster) problem

The solution via Creative:
Delete all Creative software (I used Revo uninstaller)
Run a registry cleaner (I used CCleaner)
Install the Windows 8.1 driver.
Sound was still being lost on shutdown but the answer was to put the pc into sleep mode, wake up, then sound remains stable in Entertainment Mode. I have no idea why that prevents default to Game Mode which caused loss of sound.

*Laptop: Satellite*
*Model: T210-112*
*OS: Windows 7*
Condition: New
Driver/BIOS versions: Unknown

*Symptoms:*
*When the laptop is picked up, set down, tilted or moved* through the air during audio playback the *sound reverberates* for a short time until the system is stationary again.
To describe in more detail, the 'sound-bite' that is currently playing gets stuck and repeats very quickly several times and then normal playback continues. Say for example the audio clip is playing someone saying the word "toshiba" and i pick up the laptop in the middle of it, it will come out as "toshi-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-ba". This was tested with streaming internet audio via youtube and audio running from an installed demo program.

*Troubleshooting:*
- Since this was a new laptop I returned it to the vendor and tested whether this happened on the display model in the shop. It did, so this would seem to be a general problem.
- I have searched the forum, support pages, google to no avail.
- There seem to be no README / RELEASENOTES info included with the latest BIOS / Driver downloads from the Toshiba support site describing known issues.
- I have searched for any related info from REALTEK (as I gather this is an ALC259 based system) but nothing there.

*Suspicions:*
+I suspect this may be related to the harddisk protection feature (?)+, which is supposed to kick in when it realizes the laptop may be falling. Perhaps this can be addressed ... Read more

Hello I recently upgraded my system with a new motherboard and processor. I also reformatted my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP. I installed all the motherboard drivers (including sound drivers) and everything seems to work great except the sound. Strangely, when i put on my headphones I can only hear sound coming from the right headphone speaker. I thought this could be a headphone issue, but when i tested the same pair of headphones on another device they worked fine. Also i plugged speakers into the computer and they also only play audio from the right. I checked my audio properties and settings and all the balancing settings seem to be fine. I'm using onboard sound (because it seems to be better than my previous sound card), and the drivers came with a "VIA HD Audio Deck". I can't find any balancing options there so i don't see how i could have muted the left... I've tried reinstalling the drivers, that did nothing. I have two audio inputs on my PC, both produce the same result with multiple audio devices. Also, when the headphones are inserted halfway, the sound seems to work perfectly. I would just keep them halfway inserted all the time, but the problem is really bugging me. Any ideas? The motherboard I'm using is a ASRock A790GXH with onboard audio.Thank you very much!

Answer:Sound in only one ear/speaker?

QuoteAlso, when the headphones are inserted halfway,NEVER do that, the 1/8" mini jacks do not secure themselves in that position and could transfer static to the mother board or other circuits.Take the sound card out and exchange it, it's defective.

Just a few days ago, I suddenly noticed that sound was only coming from my left speaker. I plugged in my headphones, and the same thing happened, so the problem isn't my speakers. All of the balances are centered. When I turn the left speaker volume all the way down, and the right all the way up, I hear sound from the right very faintly. I know that this has not been going on for very long. I haven't installed any new hardware or software in quite some time.

When I tug the plug (both speaker and headphones) out of the jack slightly, the sounds jumps to the right speaker, and the left is silent. There is no position I can find where sound comes out of both speakers.

I've had this computer for almost 2 years, and this is the first time I've had this problem.

Only problem is, the problem remains, I'm only getting sound out of one speaker...

This is my PC : IMEDIA MC 2569 - PB34330401 - iMedia - platform_honeymoon_imedia - Desktop
I have used the 07 drivers from the packard bell website and the problem remains.

So I tried the latest ones here : Realtek

But the problem still remains, all my audio settings are fine, the balance etc is all correct, could it be my jack that is broken? If so am I screwed seems it's built onto my motherboard?

You've gone through every audio control panel possible, from the speaker in the bottom right to going to the sound control panel and making sure one of the sliders isn't accidentally pushed to one side. Have you had a format and installed the card and it still remain with only sound in one headphone or did it just all of a sudden stop playing in the other speaker?

Question: speaker sound

hi my speakers on monter working fine but my other speakers are only working through the left speaker can any one help please

Answer:speaker sound

I have a soundblaster card, and according to the start/ sound stuff/ etc and hardware BUT it simply isn't recognised by windows - windows thinks there's no speaker at all. I've tried their help wizard but, as usual with these things, it's useless. is there some box somewhere I have to tick? The sound has worked until today. And in fact is still works for that synth sound effect - I forget what it's called; IDEM or some crap. This may be related to me putting soundblaster programs (on the installation CD) which seemed to have been left off by Cube - I want to trap incoming sound and they appear to have programs allowing this. It's another of these annoying things....Help me get my sound back and continue with the next obstacle, please

Hi All,

I accidentally deleted my speaker and now i don't know how to get the sound back.

If i go to the "control panel" then "Hardware and Sound" then double click on the icon sound. I can see only headphones under the tab "Playback". There is no speaker under this tab.
Could you please help me get the speaker back and thus the sound.

I went to start menu then right click on computer then "manage" then "services and applications" then "services" to see if windows audio was stopped. it was not but I restarted "Windows Audio" &"Windows Audio Endpoint Builder" to see if I could get the sound back. But the sound didn't come back.

Hi...I am having difficulties with the sound on my PC..I have via chipsets with on board sound. The thing is my on board sound has been working perfectly for ages. I was able to listen to sound both on the internal PC speaker, or connect to my HIFI directly from the o/p port on the back of the PC.

The other morning I turned on my PC and no sound ( althougth I did here the beep codes while booting )...I have since tried several things. I have checked that the drivers are loaded for the AC97 VIA audio device. This is OK...I have also tried connecting a sound blaster card and installing the drivers for this( disabled the onboard sound in BIOS) ..still no sound...this led me to think that it was something to do with windows rather than the hardware.Soooo....I formatted C: and reinstalled XP...then installed the drivers for both the onboard sound and also for the Creative SB...nada..zip...zero...no sound!!!!

Last attempt was clearing CMOS, reformat and reinstall of XP and audio device drivers...

I am really at a loss as to what to do next, and I fear I may have to set something in my BIOS, but not sure what exactly..I chose default options when setting up the BIOS..I have run aida on my PC and it states that the BIOS is two years old and may need upgrading...do you think this could be the problem??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

My system setup is as follows:-

Soltek 75DRV mobo, with VIA chipset.

VT8233 Southbridge

Answer:No sound on PC speaker

That sounds like quite a problem there, I had a somewhat similar problem with dualbooting windows XP and Red Hat 9. I didnt know how it happend, but the setting in the BIOS that enables or disables the onboard sound device would turn off by itself. It was mysterious and I never did find an answer, but I knew the problem. I honestly dont have a solution, maybe a BIOS update should be in order to correct it. But to my knowledge to aggree with your information, it must definitely be BIOS-related. If yuor have onboard components, look for them in the BIOS, make sure all of your onboard sound options are on. usually, there will be and option for Soundblaster sound, MPU-401 codec, and MIDI controller, make sure all of your options are on and there are no device or resource conflicts in your device manager in windows.

With only the given information in the above post, this is all i can say at the moment about this strange anomoly.

Hi Folks,

I have an Acer Aspire SA80-Z970 desktop computer that I purchased about 3 years ago. Some time ago I noticed that I was only getting sound out of one speaker (right hand side). Trying different speakers or the built in monitor speakers did not solve the problem. I've tried updating drivers to no avail.
I've looked at "sound effects manager - AC97 audio control panel" and everything appears to be in order. I've even tried resetting defaults. There is a "test speakers" option there that proves only one speaker is working.
Balance settings are also all correct. As far as I am aware, this PC has an onboard soundcard. I'm running windows XP and also have Ubuntu Linux loaded on a separate partition. The same problems occurs in Linux.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks

Martin

Answer:sound from only 1 speaker

I had the exact same problem. The solution is to buy a sound card. I just fixed mine about a week ago.Card cost around $30 Canadian, just a real inexpensive one but loaded with features.
There is no fix for the onboard AC97 sound.Trust me,
been there,done that.

You are going to need powered speakers for that unit... The unpowered speakers only work on certain motherboards.

Hi all.I have a T61 7662-CTO, running XP.  Yesterday I noticed that only the left speaker was playing any sound.  I have since run audio channel tests and I am only getting left channel sound out of the speakers.  With headphones fully plugged in, I get only left channel sound and a *tiny* amount of bleed over to the right channel.  When I pull the plug out a little bit to make it double mono on the headphones, that works normally. I checked that I had the most recent version of my sound card driver, and then reinstalled/repaired it just in case.  No dice.  I have the Soundmax HD Audio. Can you suggest anything I might be able to do???  It's sort of a huge loss. Thanks!!

Answer:T61 right speaker has no sound

The speaker has come back!  And when it did, I noticed that while the speaker was out, the Lenovo Power Manager battery icon next to the System Tray was gone as well.  Now that the right speaker sound is back, so is the Lenovo Power Manager icon. How could these two things be related internal to the chassis??

Hello folks! I have bought a new logitek x 240 speaker system because my old speaker wasn't functioning properly, just to find out the new one works in a very similar way!
The right speaker DOESN'T WORK!
For the old one it seemed like a connection problem for if I press around on the volume button, the volume of the right speaker will go up. For the new one it just doesn't work.
I had looked around the asus realtek audio manager config, and found out my speaker will work only if I set it to 6ch speaker. In the picture there's like 4 speakers but mine is only 2 speaker. There is a selection for 5.1 but no 2.1.
Also, if I set the output part to "Front Speaker Out", my right speaker will work! Actually both speakers and bass work but it doesn't work well. Music volume will go higher and lower and the sound is extremely weak. When it's on center/subwoofer the sound and bass is rich but there's only 1 speaker working.

I'm using on board sound card. It's a realtek high definition audio device, from Asus P5W DH Deluxe.
Thanks!

Answer:No sound from right speaker

OMG sorry guys I completely ignored one selection when I was looking around.
If I choose Digital PCM output both speaker will work and the sound is rich.
OMG lol
*Ok sorry. It will work only if I set the output part to 2 front speakers.
If the output is set to center/subwoofer and the system is set to Digital PCM output, there will be no sound output at all.
My speaker is linked together to the subwoofer and plug to the computer. Should I just leave it on 2 front speakers with digital PCM output or there's something else going on?

Question: No Speaker Sound

I have reformatted and reinstalled WindowsXP in my Granddaughter's one year old Dell Dimension 2400. No sounds come from the system but Windows Media Player will play stored music and CD's. I have gone to Device Mgr. and everything under Sound and Video checked OK. When I go through Control Panel to change speaker settings it says their are no speakers. I've also used the Dell CD to reinstall all Sound and Video drivers and codecs.

Please help and thanking you in advance.

Question: so speaker sound

I had to move my pc yesterday and when I set it up and booted up, I had no sound coming from my speakers. I have CD player sound, but none on anything else. Checked my sound card to see if it had come unseated. Its OK.Any ideas?Have checked cords, device manager, and reinstalled sound card.

Answer:so speaker sound

Check to make sure that in sound properties that the right device is selected. Also check volume control. If that doesn' work try reinstalling the drivers for the sound card. You can test it by running Dxdiag and testing the sound from Direct X.

For the first time we are using our desktop to play music and the volume at it's max is very quiet. My husband has plugged the speakers into his laptop and the sound is much louder. I am not sure if my desktop has a souncard (how do I check this?)and thought this may be the issue. When comparing the sounds set up of the desktop and the laptop the only difference is the laptop has Sigma Tel C-Major Audio and the desktop has Vinyl AC'97 Audio (wave). Everything else is the same.Any advice on improving the sound would be appreciated. Is it the software? Thanks

Answer:Speaker Sound Volume

Go to Start/Run and type in dxdiag. This will give you information on your sound card and lot's more

I just bought a lifechat Lx-2000 and accidentally plugged in the jacks into the back of the computer while unplugging the speaker chord. I realized my mistake and plugged in the chord again and plugged in the 2 jacks for the headset in the front. However, after that, sound no longer came through my speakers or through the headset. I have windows 7 and when i check the sound in the system tray it displays the speakers/headphones as receiving sound (or whatever the bouncing green bar means). How can i fix my speakers so that they receive sound from my computer again.

Note that I've already restarted a few times as well as reinstalled the original sound driver and tried all the troubleshooters. The chord is plugged into the same jack as before. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the wires inside were disconnected when i unplugged it...

Answer:No sound through speaker/headphones

I've got suddenly, outta da blue exactly the same problem. Think some kind of a virus raging
