Can't find source of unresponsive Toshiba Satellite

Question: Can't find source of unresponsive Toshiba Satellite

Hello,

I turned on my laptop running windows 8 and the backlight lit up but there was no display. I could hear it turning on and the indicator light came on. When connected to an external monitor, the display was just fine. I did some research, opened it up and disconnected and reconnected a few things (which I do often) and closed it back up. When I tried to turn it on this morning it was unresponsive. When connected to the ac adapter the charging light will turn on but the power button does not turn the laptop on. I desperately need this laptop for school, it's beyond it's warranty and I don't have the money to get it serviced. If I can find the source of the problem I'm open to replacing said part as long as it's not more expensive than sending it out to Toshiba.

I've since taken the entire thing apart. The only things connected are the motherboard and CPU, both of which I've taken out and cleaned (fan was gross but I digress). I'm handy enough to be able to put it back together correctly and I know the basic parts, but I was hoping that someone could walk me though some troubleshooting as I put it back together. Or if that's not how it's done, maybe someone can help me take it apart in the right order to isolate the problem part once I get it back together.

I have high hopes that it can work again (as it was powering up just fine a couple days ago with the exception if the display problem) I'm just not sure how to go about getting it back to that point.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Preferred Solution: Can't find source of unresponsive Toshiba Satellite

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Toshiba Satellite A665-S6050 and it works fine when wireless connection is off. When I connect to my home router, a Lynksys WRT54GS, it will connect fine and the internet will work. However, after about 5-20 mins, the laptop will become completeley unresponsive (screen frozen, mouse disappears, keyboard doesn't work, & won't go into sleep mode) and I need to reboot it by holding the power button down. This happens regardless of computer activity; it's happened without a web browser being open & without any programs actively running.

If I disable the wireless connection prior to the laptop becoming unresponsive, the computer will continue to work fine until I re-establish wireless connection. At this point, again it takes 5-20 mins for the laptop to become unresponsive.

I had to replace the hard disk drive in my notebook (Toshiba Satellite L50-C-,19P) windows 10. So when I try to put Windows back on my notebook it can't find the new hard drive. It says I need drivers for my hard disk drive. I can't find any on the Toshiba website and on other sites the ones don't work. Does anyone know where I could get the right drivers for my hard disk drive Toshiba MQ01ABD100?
If not, is it possible to buy another hard disk drive for which I can get some drivers? What kind of hdd could I use instead?

Hello everybody.
I've got an old fashioned 480 CDT here, used, but still works fine. Runs Win98 fine so far.

The Problem: The machine urgently needs re-installation, but I've got no disks for the Toshiba specific tools (i.e. HWSETUP etc.) which came originally with the laptop. (But a Win98 CD I do have!) Seems that they've been lost along its long way.

I didn't find a possibility to download these tools from the Toshiba support pages. Maybe I'm too blind so somebody can give me a link where to download the Toshiba Tools?

Where can I find these tools? (I did find the Archive section, but there these tools aren't listed :-(

Thanks in advance.

Martin.

Answer:Where I could find Toshiba tools for my Satellite Pro 480 CDT

Hi,

I looked on the toshiba sites after your problem and you could go to http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
in the menu Support & Download - Driver Download you could find a site to download drivers.

In the first drop down menu you have to choose ARCHIVE there is your laptop.

But there is only the Advanced Power Mode for W98 and BIOS update downloadable

it seems that the Satellite Pro 480 was only delievered with Win95.

It'll hope this will help you

Hi everybody

I bought a laptop TOSHIBA Sattellite from a supermarket, but when I wanted to download the drivers from TOSHIBA official site, I did not find my pc in the list of drivers or in any page of the site, even with the automatic detection, knowing that reference of the laptop is TOSHIBA Satellite C55-A-19K.

Now I want to know is that normal, or am I a victim of an imitation product.

Answer:Cannot find my Satellite C55-A-19K on Toshiba page

As I can see this notebook model was delivered without preinstalled operating system so I presume you want to find drivers, tools and utilities on Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Your notebook model is listed there but you must watch which criteria you must choose. As you can see you cannot search for C55-A-19K but for Satellite C55-A with part number PSCG8E.

Please check it again.

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite U205-S5002. Yesterday when I attempted to start my laptop I received this error message: windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system

And something about pressing "r" from the recovery disk. Well, I booted from the only disk I received when I purchased the computer and there is no option for repair. The only options available are to return the laptop to "out of box" condition, or to erase the hard drive. In addition, every search I've done on this error message references a recovery console, yet I cannot seem to find one.

I have several very important documents that I did not back up. Also, this happened after I shut the laptop down and put it in my laptop backback (in a nylon zipped pocket) and wonder if it could have overheated? I'm dreading the possibility that my documents cannot be retrieved.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Specifically I need to know if and how I can get to the recovery console (I've tried F8 to no avail).

Please help...

Thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Can't Find Recovery Console

Hi, and welcome to TSF!

You need to borrow a Windows CD because the Toshiba recovery disk does not have the recovery console on it. This will allow you to run the recovery console.

Moved you to Microsoft support/Windows XP

Hi,

I cannot find the Windows 10 product Key on my Toshiba Notebook. Where is the sticker? On my notebook or elsewhere? Thank you for your answers in advance

Answer:Cannot find Windows 10 serial key on Toshiba Satellite C50-C-1JL

Windows 8 PCs now embed their product keys in the BIOS.

In the past, a new Windows PC would display its product key on a sticker, usually on the side of a desktop and on the base or the bottom of the battery compartment on a laptop. But with Windows 8, Microsoft has switched gears and now stores and encrypts the key in the BIOS instead.

Guess its the same for Win 10.

I've seen an HP laptop running Win 10 that doesn't have said sticker either.

Settings /Update & Security/Activation to display key onscreen.

Hi Newton_1,

It?s nice that you have founded this forum and post here a little bit but some important informations are missing.

Which OS you have?
How did you reinstall Windows (Microsoft or Toshiba disk)?

Furthermore it would be interesting to know what you mean with Ethernal driver. Do you mean Ethernet driver?

Normally if you reinstall Windows by using Toshiba recovery disk you don?t need a special driver. Everything is preinstalled on your computer.

My Toshiba T110 netbook came with Windows 7 home, 64bit preinstalled.
I have some critical applications which will only run under the 32bit version so I have to downgrade.

I have ordered a 500Gb hard disc to install the 32 bit version (keeping the original disc for returning to 64bit if required in the future, since no installation discs were supplied, just a recovery partition). My expected difficulty will be adding the Toshiba specific programs for activating eco mode, switching WiFi and bluetooth via function keys etc. and sleep & charge etc.

Are the installation files for these programs available somewhere? and if so in 32bit versions?

Hello all. I am very new here. By very new I mean this is my first time posting on a Tech forum. I very often search for answers and techspot.com appears a lot with solutions to practically every question I can think of.
Today I am stumped and running short on time.

My colleague from work, who is quite poor with computers and setting up and stuff, so I told him I would help him by removing Vista from his system and installing windows XP.
I know that this day and age I should be upgrading him to Windows 7, but I dont have that CD.

What I have done is this:

Installed a Windows XP Professional for a DELL onto his Toshiba Satellite A100-033.
I already knew (thanks to forums) that I would need to install the drivers for many of the devices after Windows XP installed. Oh I should mention, When installing XP I deleted the partition that originally hosted Vista, and formatted the drive to NTSF (forgive me if the arconym isnt exactly correct).
After installing XP, I searched Device Manager for the yellow ? marks. I currently have 7 yellows:

+ ? Other devices
- ? Ethernet Controller
- ? Ethernet Controller
- ? Mass Storage Controller
- ? PCI Device
- ? SM Bus Controller
- ? Video Controller
- ? Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

I have searched tirelessly for the drivers.
Toshiba website said thhis model is discontinued.
However, I thought I could find them somewhere else in the WWWeb.
Unfortunately I could not.
I found some unlicensed program which suppose... Read more

Answer:Need to find Toshiba Satellite A100-033 drivers? Do they still exist?

If the PC you are working on was bought with Vista pre-installed on, then installing XP should be ok as far as the hardware is concerned.
You can try a program to automatically do the searching for you, but it's not always 100% correct, and you may be left with a few to find.
This one seems to work fairly well;
http://www.driveridentifier.com/
You will need the product key that was supplied with the installation disc, to activate windows.
You should be able to get the Video card driver from either Nvidia or AMD (or SIS), from the information in 'Device manager'. the 'update driver' option can work, but sometimes has been known to download an old version of the driver.

If you are not able to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery, then you will have to recover the notebook using Recovery disk.

However, the Satellite C650 is European notebook series. Right?

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 - Where to find the Toshiba Easy Guard & Assist Button

Hi

Toshiba Easy Guard is not a single too but a collection of different notebook properties which secures your notebook.
Check this Toshiba page about easy guard:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/TOSHIBA_EASYGUARD_08/

The Toshiba Assist button would start the Toshiba Assist tool:

You can optimize the button in this way:
1. Launch the Toshiba Assist utility using one of the methods described above.
2. From the left hand side of the Toshiba Assist window, click the OPTIMIZE tab.
3. Within the Optimize window, click the TOSHIBA Button Controls icon.
4. Within the Toshiba Controls Properties window, ensure that TOSHIBA Assist is selected from within the drop-down menu list and then click OK.
5. Close the TOSHIBA Assist window.

this is kind of weird because i was just on my laptop yesterday and it was working fine..not even running sluggish and all of a sudden, a bunch of code came on my screen for a couple of seconds and i shut it off and back on and the only thing that turns on on my laptop is the dvd drive now. the hard drive, monitor, etc doesn't turn on but the power light is on. i took it completely apart and didn't see any burn marks that were noticeable anyways on the motherboard and i even checked the ram and made sure the hard drive was alright and they're both still good. could it be possible that something is wrong with the screen? i tried to hook it into an external source and it still didn't work but if the monitor is bad, i might need to remove it first before the computer becomes responsive. i was just wondering, is that a possibility? i'm trying to think of anything else that it can be other than my motherboard.

I have an external 750Gb Toshiba HD (p/n EA05A075CAU3XS) that suddenly stopped working. No indication lights blinking, no activity, plugged into multiple computers, ports, cables with no avail.

I ended up removing it from the case and found a USB 3.0 interface card inside attached to the drive (either HDD2M01 or MK7575GUX for the part number) with a small 18-pin connector (I had to remove the 3.0 PCB to see this).

I haven't seen any signs of the card being burnt or damaged in any way but before accepting the fact that it's the drive itself was hoping someone was familiar with the connector type and/or what kind of cable I could use to bypass the 3.0 card. Additionally if someone knows where I can get an replacement card, that would be helpful as well.

Answer:Solved: Unresponsive Toshiba HDD connector type

Most external drives are exactly the same as internal drives, so it's probably a SATA interface the drive has. You can connect the drive to any computer with an internal SATA port, laptops and desktops use the exact same SATA ports for data and power, and see if it works. If it does then you can purchase a generic SATA enclosure and install the drive into it for continued use. If the drive doesn't with when connected to SATA then its toast. Almost all drives or electronics show no sign of visible failure.

I have tried several forums and not one reply. I purchased the above notebook this past Jan 2006 and due to work committments I could not install the programs that I needed to use on the notebook until now. I continued to use my toshiba satellite 2410 which I am currently using now as I write this post.

Of past recent weeks, 8 months after I purchased the notebook I opened the box and installed all of my anti virus, spyware programs etc. as well as my work programs as this is my annual leave time.
Everthing was working fine and I dropped by the office to have our software tech take a look at what I had done and there appeared no issues after he checked everything out.

I went home and decided to burn an R+ disc in my drive with the source disc being a family edited R-. The notebook would read the disc and then fail to burn to any brand of R+ that I had TDK, Sony, Maxell, Imation, Verbatim and BenQ. I mention the latter as I own 2 BenQ 16 X dual layer burners, one that I bought last December and have used with my present satellite 2410 with no coasters and have done over 100 dvd backups. And all are playable on our large family's diverse brands of standalone players.
I use the R+ media brands all of which I listed above and notably Sony, Maxell and BenQ as their support out of Irvine Ca recommended these as being tested in their factory and that they are compatible and so they have been as I have had no coasters.
I should say that I also burn with the BenQ Book Ma... Read more

Answer:new toshiba mx 50 - m5 won't burn R+ dvd from source disc R-

maybe its just a defective dvd drive that came with your laptop? If a re-install didn't help, and I am assuming that you CAN burn dvd +r media on that drive, then if it is not a software fault,it must be hardware fault. Try the new drive when you get it back or you can purchase an external USB burner.

Hi. I have a Toshiba satellite L840D-12P laptop. It originally came with windows 8. But I downloaded windows 10 a couple months ago and no problems have occurred. Around yesterday I realized my laptop was getting very laggy so I decided to completely reset it. So I chose to remove everything in settings. The laptop turned itself off and sat at "resetting PC 1%" for around 3 hours. I turned it off and tried again. Same result. I turned it off for the third time and decided to just live with it. But the third time time I turned it on it showed the Toshiba leading innovation screen for about 20 seconds (no loading spiral) then turned itself off and repeated this over and over. It doesn't respond to anything I do. (I've tried booting up safe mode) and nothing is responding. I've had the laptop for around 3 years, so I have no warranty for the old thing. I don't know how to fix this problem. Thanks for any help! ( I don't have any CDs to reboot windows or anything)

Answer:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Hello,

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

when using the above card, and TRENDnet TEW-311BRP WireLess Broadband Router, I cannot get a stable connection.

It always connect and disconnect me.

I use this machine and card all over the world: airports, hotels, offices and it works great.

I asked the dealer to replace the 311. Same problem.

However, if I stick TRENDnet PCMCIA card and disable the Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, I connect w/o disconnections.

any idea?

When I try to install Windows Vista, I get this error after entering the install screen. Can someone help me? My DVD ROM and Vista DVD are in good order. All I did was format my computer (I typed format c: in DOS and it mentioned something about mounting or unmounting a hard disk, I agreed to it). Now it won't let me install. I tried installing Windows XP, running XP's formatting tool, and that installed fine. But Vista won't install.

Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Answer:Cannot find D:\source\install.wim - Help!!

Sounds like you bought it from the Microsoft Digital Locker.

You need to download the 3 files and run the executable to build the Vista image, right?

If it is 64-bit Vista, you will not be able to do is on 32-bit XP. I had the same trouble, although I can't for the life of me figure out how I worked it out eventually. I think I did it on my girlfriend's laptop, which was already running Vista 64.

If possible, I would try downloading it again (may have been corrupted).
Also, try reburning it at a very slow speed. Burning at higher speeds creates higher risk for errors.

For the past few days I've been plagued with adware that has been continually annoying me. Adware along the lines of tr553, ads by jabuticaba, and reimage repair. I've used software such as adwcleaner, malwarebytes, and hitmanpro, which after "cleansing" the adware, still occurs in my browser. I'm running out of options and getting a growing headache :/

Answer:Getting adware, but can't find source

Try using JRT { Junkware Removal Tool }  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/

If that doesnt help

Run -  FRST http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/
and post the results of logs in your next post for someone to look at and if infected , thread will be moved to Malware Section for Team to guide you through the process of removing any etc.

Hi folks ... I'm at my wits end (who isn't when they're posting here). I'm relatively well versed and finding these stinkers and getting rid of them but hubby did something this time that I just can't find.

So far I've thrown Ad-Aware, SpyBot, AVG/Ewido, Brute Force Uninstaller, CCleaner, and ATF at it with no success. I don't see anything wildly out of the ordinary in my HJT logs but I'm posting it in case I'm missing something.

I've done searches for AntiVirus 2008 because that's one of the pop-ups that shows - nothing. I've also Googled rotator.adjuggler and those fixes have not worked either....

Next to try is CombFix...

I know a good amount about computer security, and I am usually able to find and get rid of any infections/malware I may get, but this time I can't seem to find it. I found an autorun.inf file in my C:\ directory, which I got rid of, in addition to the file it was telling to run. I cannot run Spybot or Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool unless I rename them. I even did a manual update of Spybot since I cannot access its website, but it only found cookies. Updated Ad-aware also found nothing. My browser is often trying to redirect. Even in safe mode, which I'm currently in, the problems continue. Thanks.

Answer:Satellite A30 Should I contact Toshiba Europe or Toshiba Worldwide?

Hi

What a strange question?.
If you have some problems with you notebook you have to contact the authorized service provider in your country.
The technicians should help you.
But listen; if your notebook is out of warranty (and I think it is) you will have to pay for the reparation!!

But what?s a problem with you unit???

Greetings, I am trying to update my Toshiba Satellite P50-C-11M through the Service Station, however an error occurs. Please note the laptop is roughly a week old only.

As I press install on the updates I get the following message: "The software update download operation failed. Reason: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097}.

I tried the following solutions and nothing worked:
1. Updated the BIOS Independently from the Toshiba Europe Website.
2. Uninstalled the Service Station and reinstalled it again.

Thank you, and I hope this helps others too.

Ok, so since I bought and assembled my PC about a month ago(running x64 home edition), I have been getting random bluescreens. I used Bluescreen view and it seems that all my BSODs are caused by ntoskrnl.exe. And from what I have been able to gather is that it is caused by a corrupt Windows install, bad drivers, or a bad HD. I would appreciate it if you guys would be able to help me narrow this down so I can get this taken care of.

Thanks for any help and guidance, it is greatly appreciated.

Problems started this morning when I was uninstalling something my husband downloaded while half-asleep. It was some sort of recovery tool, but I don't remmeber the name - sorry.

Apparently I checked (or unchecked) the wrong boxes and wound up with WordProsser, Linksey and another program installed. I immediately uninstalled those, but something is still lingering. Any time I click a link, open a new tab or even click on a web page I get a pop-up or a new tab opening. The pop-ups vary from McAfee Promo pages to "Download ComboFix". Also an awesome ad-bar on the right side of the window that's by Rightcoupon and brought by SASA. I've run AVG, Spybot, MalwareBytes. All three have found items and removed or blocked multiple items, but they won't go away. I can't find anything in the Uninstall Program list and nothing in the extensions.

Need help cleaning this up please! Really appreciate the help - oh and Happy New Year!

ETA - apparently it just wasn't showing me that I had the file attached. Oye! Anyway, this should be everyting.

The virus keeps replicating itself, a couple times every day AVG comes up with a virus whose name is comprised of 8 random letters. Can't get to the source, Malwarebytes can't find it, AVG can't find it. There's 2 suspicious line items in the HJT log that I can't remove. They instantly come back/HJT couldn't remove them. Sure this is related; I can't start automatic updates, it starts then is disabled again when I try to get the updates from Microsoft Update website, and can't run Microsoft MSRT (Malicious software removal tool). Of course, had to rename Malware Bytes to get it to run.

Answer:Insidius virus, can't find source

Hello Thos Uses Welcome to the TSF Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum. I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system.

I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

After 3 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Instruction can be found HERE
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Window... Read more

Hi,
I have a file in my start menu and I would like to find the source of this (shortcut) file. I tried right-clicking, viewing properties. It does not say where the shortcut comes from.

Help?

Also, the file is Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, but I can't find the original file .exe where this is launching from. I checked C:\Program Files, but that only has the initial set up files. Where are the actual files?

Answer:How do I find the source of a shortcut file?

Hi go to start, and search for the file name and it will bring you to the source of the file

Hope this helps

Within the past few days, I noticed my laptop's fan always running high. As I tried to determine the cause, I noticed the following, in order of discovery:

--IE address bar missing, though checked. Searched, found fix. That much is working now.

--When I click My Computer, flashlight displays for up to a minute before drives display.

--Typing an address in IE and hitting GO or <ENTER> seems not to work; but after a minute or so site comes up.

--Windows updates won't run

--Trying to pull down address history takes up to a minute to dispay.

--Using Google, sites come up immediately.

I have run Adaware, Spybot and my McAfee AV scan. The only thing found were tracking cookies.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hello, I've recently been experiencing a very annoying problem with pop-ups. They will appear every 2 minutes or so, and sometimes will feature the name of the website I have just visited or will sometimes show my IP.They seem to appear when I use Firefox also. I can't seem to find the source of this problem.

Hi,

I'm currently having serious issues with my windows 7 installation (freshly installed yesterday). I keep getting a BSOD, at seemingly random times. It does not happen during safe mode with networking, and sometimes doesn't happen at all in normal mode. It is quite frequent, and has happened 4 times today.

Device Manager shows no question marks, and all updates have been installed.

I have OS X installed on a seperate hardrive and having no problems what so ever. So i'm guessing its a driver problem in windows? If it was a RAM problem surely it would effect the mac side too.

I've uploaded a .rar (virus scanned with bitdefender), of the bluescreen error and dumps.

I've been going through the various errors and criticals in the event viewer but cant make much sense of what its saying. The critcal errors are always accompanied by Service Control Manager errors:

Code:
The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.
Basically the criticals say its a kernal-power problem:

Every day when i run Ad-adare/Spy-doctor/Counterspy/Microsoft Antispyware it finds new things, only to find them again the next after i delete them. Can someone please help me?
I am posting the Hijack log here. THank you!

Edit by chaslang: Unrequested inline log removed

Answer:Have Spyware installed but CANNOT find the source!

Please follow forum guidelines, always ATTACH your log to your post as a .txt or .log attachment.

Please EXTRACT HijackThis from the ZIP File to a Safer location. Here's how:

To create a new folder:
Click START > My Computer > Local Disc C: > Program Files
Now, RightClick on an Empty Area and select New > Folder & name it HijackThis and ENTER

To Extract HijackThis:
Now, Right Click your HijackThis ZIP File and select Extract All > Next > and browse to your newly created HijackThis Folder
(C:\Program Files\HJT) and click Next.

The reason HJT needs its own safe folder is so that backups will be safely preserved. That way, if a mistake is made in the removal process, the mistakenly deleted entry can be restored.

You have not followed the READ ME so lets start by doing this.

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

Download HijackThis 1.99.1

Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, word... Read more

Hey Guys!

I?ve been having some major computer problems for months and months! I?ve posted on quite a lot of different forums each step of the way but this seems like a good place to summarise where I?m at and maybe even find a solution.

As it stands today I?m encountering Blue Screens on about a weekly basis. This problem occurs most frequently whilst playing any game on the computer after about 5-10minutes of play.
There have been several occasions where my computer has literally just crashed on the desktop but this has literally happened no more than 3-4 times over the past few months.

So that sounds weird already? It doesn?t happen every time I play a game, like I said It seems to happen about once or twice a week. Some of the Blue Screen messages are along the lines of IRQ_NOT_EQUAL_THAN or MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.

So heres what I?ve tried ?

1) Obviously the first thing I looked at was memory, I tried taking the sticks out and putting them back in. This seems to make no difference, and neither does moving them to different slots. I?ve ran Memtest86 and they came up with no errors, Initially I had the memory replaced under warranty by Corsair TWICE because I thought that it was most likely the cause but it turns out I?m still having the problem.

2) I next took out the graphics card and put it back in, no luck.

3) After talking on the corsair forums somebody suggested re-seating the CPU. Now this seemed to have some effect. Prior to re-seating the CPU I wa... Read more

I just built a new machine (specs in sig) and I get this random system hang that I can't recreat reliably and I can't find a variable that would cause it for the life of me.

At first I thought it was an issue with my wireless mouse, because all I saw was the mouse pointer freezing for a few seconds. However, playing a game I watched the game do the same, freeze, and then suddenly move hyper fast to catch up a few seconds later.

There are no errors in my log. I've updated all my drivers. I've reseated and replugged all my hardware save the CPU...

What short of reinstalling Windows is left for me to try? I'm running 32-bit XP Pro.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:New system hangs, can't find source

If you think it's a USB issue try this .
Start ,right click My Computer ,Properties,Hardware,Device Manager,(up top click on view,
and check (show hidden devices) then double click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers,
the bottom 3 (USB Root Hub ) bring them up one at a time ,and under the tab (Power Management) Uncheck (allow the computer to turn off this device to save power ) .

Then While your still there in Device Manager ,under ( Network Adapters) double click on it, Then when it shows your adapter ,double click on it ,and under the( Power Management) Tab UNCHECK allow computer to turn this device off to save power.

One more thing to be shure is (right click on your desktop) and when the control panel comes up ,under the screensaver tab ,down below hit the power button tab ,then hit the
Power Schemes drop down tab (and hit Always On ) hit apply ,then okay ,and reboot.
see what that does for ya

I'm not too good with technology in general, but I have a basic understanding of how it works. I set up my wireless router (somehow) and it worked great until I had a power outage. I got it up and working again somehow, but the power went out again and now I can't get it to work. I've tried to unplug everything and plug it back in, reset everything besides my computer to default and basically start the whole process over... and it won't work now.

Answer:Need to find the source of my connection problem

Odds are you have done what you need to do to determine that the router is defective, but let's proceed ...

What is the brand and model of your modem? Brand and model of your router?

Can you get internet access with a computer connected directly to the modem?

Reset the router to factory default settings.

Unplug modem and router and shut down computer(s).

Connect modem to router's WAN (Internet, Modem) port and connect a computer to a router LAN port.

Plug in modem. Plug in router. Boot computer.

You should now have internet access and be able to login to the router and configure the wireless and whatever else you desire. If not, please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

How do I find source links for videos? If a video is embedded onto a website, how do I find the original link to that video?

Thanks!

Answer:Find video source links

You'll have to read the HTML - right click on the website, select view source.

Search the code for play or player, then determine if that is really what you want (some adverts might also be 'played' in the player). There is no hard and fast rule, you have to dig.

A lot of the time, you might have to look in the .css files or .js files associated with the website - I usually give up and try another method of watching the video (on my machine ... NBC almost never plays the show, and Fox might play the show if it's sunny and it's Tuesday).

Here's the section of HTML from NBC's The Blacklist that might get you started. I guarantee that two websites will be different.

Hello,

Here at Sapulpa Auto Pool, we have network printers set up for the whole office. One of the printer keeps printer personal files off of somebodies computer. I think somebody is joking around but it the long run is wasting company paper. Is there a way to find the source network computer that is printing so that we can stop this from continuing?

Answer:Solved: Find source of the network printing

You can check the Application log of the computer that is hosting the printer, then you will be able to see at what time and from what computer sent a print job to it.
Good Luck.

I am repairing a relative's laptop, which was having problems losing memory, both hard and virtual. Viruscan didnt pick anything up so I did a clean install with Windows 7 (was previously running Vista). Fresh install and same issue, memory taking up about 400mb out of 800mb. The running process (with all users selected) only adds up to about 130mb with firefox running. Do running services not show up in the processes tab? Do you have any idea to to track the lost memory?

Did not test memory, yet. Did not try to reseat anything either. Here are system details, which are somewhat vague as the laptop is not in front of me.

Dell Inspiron 1501
AMD sempron running at 2.0ghz
over 800mb memory
Windows 7 Pro 32-bit

Thanks in advance for any help. I guess mostly I am just trying to find a program that will read memory usage better than msft, unless you have an idea of what it is.

I'm running an HP Pavilion notebook with Windows 8.1 and Norton Internet Security. Till last week, it was quick and dependable. But a week ago, it was still quick online, but it started doing all sorts of weird stuff, like shutting down all my open applications at once and taking forever to turn on. So I tried restoring to my HP recovery disks from Jan 2014, ran Windows Updates for two days, and then started having different problems. So I tried again: I restored to a Macrium Reflect image from Jan 2015 and then ran updates for four hours, reloaded all my programs a second time (Arghhh!). The PC was fine for a couple of days, but then was very very slow to start up. So I did the following:
Ran the command sfc /scannow, and was notified it found errors it could not repair.
As advised by the Microsoft website, I went into my administrator account in Safe Mode with Networking and tried to delete the files in %windir%\winSxsTemp\PendingDeletes and \PendingRenames. The system didn't allow me to delete files in the PendingDeletes folder; the message read, "You need permission from a trusted installer." The system also didn't allow me to delete files in the PendingRenames folder; the message read, "You need permission from System."
Tried to run sfc /scannow in Safe Mode anyway, and got the same errors.
In Safe Mode with Networking, I ran Dism /online /cleanup-image /restoreHealth, but got the message, "The source files could not be downloaded. Use the 'so... Read more

I've got Windows XP Pro SP2, laptop.
I picked up a virus and spyware and Sunday and have been clearing them off.

Currently, when connected to the internet (not surfing, just plugged in) the laptop starts playing sounds, specifically a couple comedy routines that appear to be ads. When this happens explorer.exe has a burst of CPU activity and killing explorer.exe stops the sound. No other process appears to be affected, to the best of my limited knowledge. Disconnecting from the internet also stops it.

The sound is sometimes the first thing that starts after a reboot.

I've got Spybot, Ad-Aware 2007, and just bought SpyEraser, and have Symantec Corp Antivirus. None of them find anything.

Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks.

Answer:Computer Plays Audio Ads, Can't Find Source

Review of SpyEraser:http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2091004,00.asp SpyEraser is a danger to itself and to others. It's poor at removing existing spyware, sometimes killing innocent processes, and it's even worse at keeping systems from getting infected in the first place. Look elsewhere for spyware protection.Scans very quickly.Performed poorly in spyware removal and blocking tests; produced false positives. I'm getting a message (2nd time now) that, according to every check I can think of, looks to be an update from Microsoft, but it definitely shouldn't be there and isn't working properly. I've checked and the program that's running it is legit, it is a program that is supposed to be there, is signed by Microsoft, and hasn't apparently been altered or even accessed since the original installation of the OS. I've run it through anti-virus, and come up empty handed. No threat. I've run a full system scan. No threat. I've gone through every process running on my computer right now by hand and all there's not a single one I can't account for. And yet, the message I'm getting is very very wrong.

It's an update dialogue that is styled like it's from vista or 7 (additionally, in the details of the file that's launching it, Internet Explorer is mentioned, so it was created before Edge was a thing). In typical windows 7 fashion, it says that my PC is 'Entitled' to an upgrade which will get me the Fresh and new intuitive Chromium Browser. This is the part I find the most sketchy. As far as I know, Chromium is a version of the Chrome browser that is mainly if not exclusively used on Linux. It's definitely not Microsoft based, and is a competitor with IE or Edge. Windows would never install it on your computer for you.

This is the second time I have encountered this error. There is no way to decline the upgrade. Last time, I killed it in Task Manager. My spidey-sense is tingling, this do... Read more

Answer:Can't find the source of this weird update dialogue

Could be its captured your router...kill in Task Manager, shut down computer, disconnect router.
Restart router and computer to verify if cleared.

I've got several issues going on with a 80GB spinpoint SATA drive loaded with Windows 7, and a 100mb recovery partition.
I need to clone to a bigger drive, and have tried two packages, and both tell me something is amiss. I run the Windows 7 Startup repair and it says "no problemo" but that's not really a thorough disk checker.
I try to run chkdsk but one of two things happens: if I run it in recovery mode it is only checking the 100mb partition and I don't know how to force it to the big partition. If I try to bootup win and run from cmd.exe, it bails saying the volume is in use and cannot be checked.

Paragon Backup/Recovery, soon as it fires up, says I have an I/O error on the drive.
Driveimage XML, when trying to disk-to-disk image, says it cannot lock the volume.

I don't know what I'm dealing with, but can someone suggest a really smart disk utility package that can thoroughly analyze what's amiss here?

Answer:How to find source of I/O error on Win 7 hard drive?

you can try samsung's hui utility

while in recovery mode, you need to specify the drive letter to check while using chkdsk
a command like chkdsk /p c: will check the c drive. You will have to figure out what drive letter you are on.

When I click on my Blackwidow scanner I get the message 'Cannot find default Date Source in current directory'. I note that my Twain folder in Windows is empty but don't know if this is related. I wanted to restore the Twain folder from my Windows98 CD but files are listed in a way which makes it impossible to identify the one I need.

I was using a self-built machine running Windows 7. Suddenly, about 3 months ago, random USB device disconnect-like sounds started occurring (sometimes 3x in a row, other times not for several hours) - I disabled all system sounds and it still continued, even though I didn't notice any USB hardware blips). Two months ago, I bought the new Intel NUC7i7BNH, installed Windows 10, and within a few hours the issue suddenly started all over again.
I've recorded the sound. Here's the link: https://soundcloud.com/finvarra/nuc-sound
I have replaced or swapped out literally all my hardware, disabled all Windows power-saving settings, turned off ALL Windows system sounds, tested the same configuration on 3 different computers (1 running Win 10, the others Win 7), been on several computer help forums, pretty much eliminated every computer-related fix Google (and several computer advisers) could suggest including testing all USBs and running USBDeview (with no hits) - and the same "disconnect" sound (or whatever it is) continues.
It's definitely coming through the speakers b/c I can lower the volume. I get no hardware hiccops. Usually, the sound is the 2 tone Downward disconnect sound, but sometimes it just seems like 1 tone. The randomness is what is really frustrating. For instance it was silent all yesterday morning, then 3 times in a half-hour, then nothing until this morning - just once - and then suddenly nearly a dozen times in 10 minutes. There is just no pattern - no pa... Read more

This suddenly happened one day, my memory usage is currently over 65% with nothing open, I have 8gb of DDR3 Ram.
Here's a picture of the task manager.

And here are a couple pictures from RAMMAP

There are 5GB of RAM being used by something and I can't tell what it is.
Would really appreciate some help here.

Edit: I've ran a scan with Malwarebytes aswell as another scan with Clamwin. So I doubt it's a virus.

Answer:High RAM usage in windows 8.1. Can't find source.

Post a screenshot of Task Manager - Performance tab showing memory info.

Within the last few months my computer has been having cpu spikes to close to 100% when I play games. Generally this happens within three minutes of booting up the game. I've tried multiple fixes including some I've read in other threads on this site but so far I haven't had any luck. It's an hp dv7-2270us (a little over a year old)Processor is an intel Core 2 Quad CPU 9000 @ 2 Ghz. I have 4 gigs of ram.

Just a few things out of the way

Graphical intensity of the game is irrelvant. It happens to World of Warcraft, it happens to Team Fortress 2, it happens to Portal 2, Magicka. Windowed mode does not alter the problem at all. Runnig in window mode and adjusting video settings do not help. It also will occasionally happen while watching Hulu but this is rare. It will happen when using Adobe Premiere CS5 on occassion (probably two or three times every hour).

When runnign through taskmanager I see nothing out of the ordinary taking up CPU. The only noteworthy thing I spot is that when teh spike occurs is that the game itself suddenly increase it's cpu use by about 50-75% (i.e. it's running at 25% and then suddenly jumps to 40% or therabouts) - surpassing the CPU listing for System Idle Process.

Edit: Forgot to mention - I have run OneLiveCare and Norton security - both of wihch have turned up nothing in virus or malware.
Edit 2: Forgot to also mention - I've tried updating drivers, divx, checked windows update, rolled back drivers, unin... Read more

It would seem that something is spamming a keypress every second. In ZSNES it shows it as 8DH. It prevents the screensaver from running, and causes other minor annoyances. Either related or not, my laptop's pad stopped reliably being able to scroll at the exact same time this keypress thing started. I am thinking that it has to be related somehow to malware, since reinstalling my mouse and keyboard drivers at the same time didn't change anything.

Answer:Trying to find source of unusual computer behavior

Combofix failed to work, it just crashed and Dr Watson said the Windows Command Processor stopped working. I did find the attached file. Don't know if it means anything to you, or if maybe you can just pass it along to the right people.

Found some odd issues with out Windows 2000 SP4 web server (yes, I know, I've already applied for funding to replace it... again. hopefully this year I will get the funds approved ). Anyway, I had an issue and found that the box is attempting to connect to IRC channels a few times a minute. Doing some searching on the IPs and the service (netsvc.exe) I found that, as I assumed, there is some malware on the box, most likely part of a botnet or backdoor. Luckily, it is being blocked by our web filtering software, but I'd like to clean up the machine.

I have downloaded the newest Spybot, which found nothing with the latest definitions, and ran a fill virus scan with the McAfee Enterprise software and latest definitions. Found nothing again.
