The AC power adapter type cannot be determined.

Question: The AC power adapter type cannot be determined.

Awhile ago, I started getting this error message when I started up my computer (after the initial Dell screen). It stated:

The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance.

Strike the F3 key (before the F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see power warning messages again.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the set up utility.

I ignored this problem for awhile by just hitting F1. However, within the last month, it has gotten worse. Instead of this error message coming up when I started my computer - after the initial Dell screen, nothing would come up except a little flashing line in the top left hand corner of the screen, and the computer would not start up passed that. I proceeded to fiddle with the plug that I plug into my laptop from adapter. I would push it harder into the laptop and/or twist it in after I hit the start up button, waiting to see if, after the initial Dell screen, I could get the error message to come up again so I could hit F1 so my computer would actually start up. I really don't know if any of that helped, but I figure if it was the adapter, then I should try something like that. I even blew it the plug and into the socket in the laptop tonight. However, tonight, I almost could not get the computer to start up all the way - I kept getting the screen with the little blinking line after the initial Dell screen and no error message. Eventually, after trying several times, I did get the error message and hit F1.

Then, I came here and searched for 'power adapter.' I found a post here:

I read over it, and it sounded a lot like my problem, especially with the whole battery no longer charging aspect. So I removed the battery, or at least I think I did (it says Dell Battery Module Rechargeable Li-ion Battery, plus my computer now does not detect any battery.) I then tried to start up my computer again, but this time still got the error message (but at least I could hit F1 and it started up!) Do you think I need to get a new battery? (even though I am not running on a battery, just AC power? Do both have to be working properly for this message, or the little blinking line problem, to go away?) I also noted in the post a suggestion to try another outlet. I am going to do that after I post this. I will come immediately back, if the computer starts up properly, to report what happened.

Here is my SysInfo:

Just a note - I do know that Microsoft Security Essentials is no longer supported - just haven't bothered to get a new security system. I don't think that has anything to do with the problem (I hope.)

I am going to go try a different outlet, like I said. Will come back, if I can, to let you know what happened.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated greatly! Thank you so much in advance for your help and understanding!

BACK: Changing the outlet did not work. I still get the error message (but not the little blinking line! Hooray!) I would rather get the error message because at least the computer will start up. However, I am still getting the error message, and I do not know if I will get the little blinking line instead again (although, I hope not - maybe taking the battery out helped somewhat?) I don't know. But just wanted to come back and let you guys know. Thanks so much again!

Hi everybody... my step daughter is having a problem with her dell precision m6300 laptop. Whenever she turns on her laptop, she gets the above message. The laptop will not go past this screen without the current plugged in. I also cannot access the bios menu or any setup menu or the desktop. It's just stuck on this one screen. I'm thinking it could just need a new charger but I'm not sure, any help would be appreciated.

So.. I see this problem has been posted about before, so I just wanna know what my options are.
This problem actually popped up on me a few months ago, but I was able to remove and insert the power cord a few times and the message would go away and I would be able to charge my battery. But as a month or two passed, it became more finicky, and I had to jiggle with it a little more, but still, I was able to charge my battery and use my laptop wire-free.
Now today, I've been trying all day, and cannot for the life of me get the battery to charge. I get the following message when I plug the wire in.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."
Also, I think its worth nothing that a lot of people mention that this error message comes up while they are booting their Laptops, mine only comes up once Vista is loaded and I attempt to reinsert the cord.
So, I have tried another Dell charger, a 90W one, and the same problem does occur (My original is a 65W). I am planning on getting a different battery tomorrow to see if it is the battery, as this ones usable life was getting quite low, down to barely a half hour per full charge. My warranty, although I'm not sure of the specifics, was not expired when this problem first came up, but is now expired by I would say 2 months at the most.

At a minimum, the power jack on the mainboard needs to be replaced - if that doesn't fix it or a competent repair shop tells you it won't, you'll need to replace the system board.

Dell Inspiron 5755 with a 17" display, running windows 10 and the latest BIOS version from Dell(as of 3/2/2017). AC adapter power supply is a 45W, 19.5V, 2.31A, Dell power supply. It works fine and is not damaged, (lite is lit on the brick and proper voltage out verified by using a VOM). When running on battery for a while and the battery low window pops up, I plug in the power supply and immediately get a message "The AC adapter power type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge". I ordered and tried another Dell 45W power supply. Same issue. I right clicked the battery icon in the system tray to display the Dell Power Manager. It says my battery is fine, 100% normal. As I unplug and plug in the power supply while the Dell Power Manager is up, I can see the word "charging" displayed in the management window for a bit, but then it disappears. The battery Icon itself shows that the power supply is plugged in as it displays a male electrical plug. If I remove the battery the laptop powers up fine. The BIOS in this machine does not display the charging device information, just that the battery is 100% normal. While in BIOS I hit the F9 key to reset basic bios functions to no avail. I also tried uninstalling the AC adapter and ACPI- compliant control method battery and re-booting to no avail. I can get the original power supply to charge a low battery by continuously unplugging and plugging back in the connector t... Read more

Since you've tried a new Dell adapter to no effect, next suspect is the DC jack -- replace this part:
If that doesn't solve the problem, it's the mainboard that's bad.

Ok, I have read through these forums, and others, and have been unable to resolve this issue after trying like a million things. Here's my issue:
This is on a Dell Inspiron N4030 running Windows 8 Pro with Bios Revision A07.
On boot-up I get this message:
"The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.
The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance.
Strike the F3 key (before F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see this power warning message again.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility."

If I strike F2 and go into the bios it says "AC adapter type    unknown"
If I strike F1 to continue boot-up it boots into windows and then the battery indicator shows "Plugged in, Not charging"

In attempting to fix this issue I have:

1. Replaced the battery.
2. Replaced the motherboard
3. Replaced the Power Board
4. Swapped out the adapter with several other Dell adapters we have in the house (we have 6 Dell laptops). Adapter revisions used are A00, A01, and A02.
5. Did the whole rigamarole here:
6. Tried various combinations of plugging/unplugging at different intervals and at different speeds that I have read on multiple sites.
7. Reset the Bios by disconnecting the battery and AC adapter and the hold... Read more

My Dell Inspiron 6400 HDD damaged without any warning last week and cannot be repaired, so i had to replace it with another HDD. Everything works fine after that except that when i plugged in my AC adapter, the power warning message “The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation" will appear, and my battery will not charge.

Previously this power warning message will occur only when i didn't plug in properly and it worked fine after i replug the adapter. Since i changed my HDD, this warning message appears everytime i turn on my laptop. I tried updating the BIOS but it doesn't help, the problem is still there. I suspect that my AC adapter is damaged but when i tried it with another Inspiron 6400, it worked fine without the warning message appearing, that shows that there isn't any problem with my AC adapter..

Any solutions for this? I hope i don't have to change the motherboard or whatsoever, because my laptop is out of warranty. Is it something to do with the configuration? - since i formatted my computer and reinstalled everything..

thanks heaps for any comments!

Answer:Power adapter type cannot be determined after replacing new HDD

You may have a damaged DC jack in the laptop if the adapter works on another laptop, which would go with you replugging the power adapter to clear the error in the past. Its not uncommon for the jacks to break from the motherboard and require re-soldering, in some cases the jacks crack or break and need to replaced. To get at the jack you will need to have the laptop completely disassembled.

P.S. 'spoiled' isn't not the correct term to use with failed electronics.

Hello, from few days a have problem with my AC power adapter. My system says: "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined... lalalala" when my Windows says Plugged in, not charging. CPU performance does not exceed 0,78GHz.I tried to uninstall the drivers - nothing.
I tried update my BIOS - nothing.
Replace AC - nothing
Exclude malfunctioning AC adapter.
Sometimes after a few connections begins to charge my battery, and it is a day where you do not try to charge.
But I found a solution, which is always charge my battery.
when i turn off the system, and then pulled out the battery. I push the button 'power on' for 10 seconds. And then I put back the battery and plug the charger. I turn on the system and everything works.
But once again, disconnect and plug the charger that stops charging

Where is the problem?

Answer:The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Inspiron 15 3542

Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Since you have replaced the adapter, if the battery has good health, then then next part to be replaced would be the dc port - you would need this part -
If nothing works, the motherboard might be at fault.
If the system is under warranty, Please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name, Phone#, Address and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call -

Hi! I don't know what's the cause of my problem and will be appreciated for any info.
Suddenly, I started getting this message, when I turn my laptop on. It won't recognize my AC adapter, and won't charge the battery.
I have Dell Inspiron 6400/1505, windows XP.
I tried to flash BIOS, took out and put back in the battery. Check the plug, it looks ok. Battery's LED lights show it works fine.
I saw that so many people have this problem, but did not find any ways to solve it. Or any reasons why it happened. If anybody knows what to do, please share with us regular PC users.

I'm using an XPS 13 9350, and 'm currently having an issue whereby when I start up my laptop I'm receiving the error message.
"AC power adapter and type cannot be determined, the battery may mot charge, the system will adjust the performance to match the power available"
The laptop sticks at 1% and wont charge. Although the light is still on the adapter, the light does not appear at the front of the laptop where it would usually indicate charging, apart from occasionally brief moments before the laptop boots following pressing the on button.
I have forced the latest BIOS update past the 10% battery block, however this has not helped.
I've had the laptop and adapter roughly a year.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Answer:Dell XPS 13 9350 - AC power adapter and type could not be determined

If "roughly" is less than a year, call Dell for warranty repair.
If it's over a year, first thing to try is a new OEM Dell AC adapter -- most computer shops should have one you can try.  If that fixes it, replace the AC adapter.  If not, replace the DC power jack:
And if that doesn't solve it, it's the charge circuit itself that's bad -- replace the mainboard.

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

Answer:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

For the last two weeks, every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E1705 while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message. "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation". I press the F1 Key and everything works fine. I've read about this on other websites and most say it's a design flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed. Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands become broken and cause this message. My computer is from June 2006 and shouldn't be having this issue so early...or ever. This seems like a flaw that should have created some type of manufacturers recall since so many people are having this issue. I'm of course out of warranty, will Dell replace this free of charge?

Answer:Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....."

You are correct, the failure is due toloss of the power supply ID signal. Sometimes this happens because of strain on the plug, which breaks the signal wire. Some even are so severe that the insulation breaks away from the plug; this is due to rough handling. The other cause is one or more of the power socket solder connections to the system board become broken. This also is related to severe handling. I have seen one case where all three power connections and three of four mechanical connections were disconnected. If the power supply is bad, a replacement will cure the problem. If not, then the socket is bad, and this will require a system board replacement. If you are experienced, you can try to resolder the connections. I am experienced and was not able to get my daughter's E6000 to work by resoldered. More recent Dells are using a replacable power connection board which is a much cheaper repair.

I had to replace the power cord (from the outlet to the box) on my AC adapter. It worked fine for awhile; but now I'm getting this message on boot up. "Warning. The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance. Please check AC adapter is connected properly. Remove AC adapter and plug it in again." I tried plugging it in again several times to no avail. Then my virus program (Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14) popped up a window to start in Safe Mode to fix the problem. I know how to start in Safe Mode but don't know what to do once I'm in there. Any help will be appreciated.

I am getting this error message. My battery is not charging. And it is clocking my cpu speed to 0.5 GHz. I heard that there is a pin in the DC jack that tells a chip on the computer to tell the computer that the AC adapter is not suitable (whether damage or low wattage). I'm wondering if there is a way to disable the chip and just use it at full speed, I don't really need a battery because I'm mainly on AC use anyways.

Answer:The wattage and type of the AC adapter cannot be determined

Mine will do that if the plug is not all the way in.  It has happened to me twice now and I would have thought it would take more than 1/16th of an inch to cause the situation.
Sorry I don't know of a way to bypass this check.

Dell Battery Charging Problem Complicated
Could be one of those “Mother Board” Fixes but how can we get to the bottom of this?
The question is what allows the computer to determine the adapter wattage and type?

I have an Inspiron 5758 (Win 10, original Dell AC adapter, 45W, no appearance of damage on male or female end, though truth be told, those are very small/hard to see well).  In the past when I've unplugged my laptop, if I don't plug it in almost immediately again, but run the battery a for a little while, when I plug the AC adapter back in, I get the old "plugged in, not charging" indicator in my taskbar. In the past when this has occurred I've followed various temporary solutions to get it return to "plugged in, charging," esp. the ubiquitous 12 step method of turning off/unplugging/removing battery/uninstall in Device manager/etc...  Sometime just unplugging and plugging back in repetitively works.
But now, none of that works.  After draining a battery to about 25%, I plugged it back in, and got  a "plugged in, charging" indicator for about 20 seconds and then a reversion to "plugged in, not charging."
In addition, I get the following message upon start up, "Alert!  The AC power adapter cannot be determined,. The battery may not charge. I am planning on making this project myself but first I have one question. Here is the project I will be making:

It says I need a 12V DC supply for powering the breadboard. When searching up for 12V DC supplies, I only get power supply's that plug into the wrong wall socket (I live in Australia).
Do I need to get something like the article suggests:

Or can I get something such as this:
If the first option is the only possibility, how do I get the plug to go into my wall socket?
Also, how do I get the other end plugged into the breadboard when the product just has a single plug on the end?

Answer:What type of power adapter do I need?

You can use the Ebay adaptor, the easiest way to get 2 wires is to get a socket that fits the plug, like this one :- and solder 2 wires to that socket.

The circuit at your link uses a 2 wire plug into the breadboard, you would have to get a similar plug OR you could push bare wires into the breadboard.

OR you could cut the plug off to reveal the 2 wires but they will probably be quite thin and may not connect well if pushed into the breadboard holes.

Have the following 2 symptoms:

When turning it on, I get an error from BIOS which says AC type and wattage can't be determined and thus battery won't charge.
I have a spare battery which when inserted shows that is is 62% charged. But even with that, if I pull the power cord, the laptop doesn't stay on.

I have seen few posts regarding updating BIOS which I did. Doesn't seem to make a difference. Any suggestions.
This symptom started happening on this laptop at least 2 months ago when the laptop was in warranty. Unfortunately, I was a little late in calling Dell and the awesome Dell support says it is 25 days out of warranty so won't fix anything :-( So much for my 6th Dell laptop.

The rear panel says 12V 3.0A DC power supply, but I can't find any of this type, I've tried Maplin, etc and all they suggest is 300mA, now I thought 3.0 A was 3000mA?

I have a Yoga Pro 3 I purchased here in the US a couple of months ago.  This summer I'll be moving to Moldova (eastern Europe) with the Peace Corps and plan to take my Yoga with me. Moldova has 220-240V Type C power outlets.  Ideally, I'd like to purchase a power adapter for my Yoga that is already configured with a Type C plug.  The US Lenovo customer service staff can't seem to tell me if I can buy one. I know Germany also uses Type C but I don't see the option to buy the 40W power adapter on their site. The below adapter is available on the UK site but I'm not sure UK adapters are compatible with Type C outlets: Does anyone out there who travels to Europe or owns a Yoga Pro 3 in Europe have any tips on buying a native adapter?  If I need to use a convertor I will... I'm just trying to cut down on the accessories I have to carry with me.

Hi all, I happen to have a spare power adapter from my former W530. Can I use it with my X1 Carbon 20A7? Connector is the same but of course the W530 one is much more powerful, so I guess the question is: is the X1 protected against more Amperes than expected? Thanks and regards

Iv recently encountered the dreaded Plugged-In not charging Error
Upon Boot
ALERT! AC power wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Iv come to the conclusion its the module that determines the adapter and wattage type.
As iv tested it with known working chargers and batteries.
Can anyone *** me with this knowledge or allow me to get a schematic for the mother board?

I understand some of the power options pretty well when I'm logged in and at my own desktop: Screen, disk activity times, sleep mode, etc. I know how to change them. But what determines which of these options are in use when logged out and at the login screen?
Is it the set of options that were in place for the last person who logged out? Or...???
Thank you.

Answer:When logged OUT, how are power options determined?

The last set of options selected when a user was logged in are used when no one is logged in (remember, power settings are per machine, not per user - if a user sets power options, those are the options per machine until changed).

Just faced a rather strange issue, but not really an issue, just different system behaviour than expected. System:W520 Batteries:55++ connected27++ connected Power adapter:Unplugged No other accessories connected. Scenario:I was using the system till it power itself off due to low power (0% reached for both batteries). i.e. Ungraceful Windows shutdown. Then upon pressing the power on button, the LEDs flashes, no THINKPAD logo or BIOS message appears, system appears to then restart again, and the LEDs flash again...and loops until it was no longer able to even attempt to POST. Expected behaviour:Either display the message that says "Battery level is too low".OrDon't loop (this is the behaviour when only the 55++ battery is connected at 0%) Why does having the 27++ would make the system go through this looping cycle?

Answer:W520, 55++, 27++, unplugged from power adapter, 0% battery. Press Power button --> power up loops.

Hello Chatbox,
I can understand your issue very well, as there is no message comes on the screen which gives you information to plug the power adapter and prevent the laptop to get shut down.
You should install Power Manager software and then customize it as per your requirement.
The software can be download from the mentioned below web link.
Hope, after this laptop will not shut down automatically due to battery backup
Best Regards,

Hi!My Fujitsu Siemens Scaleoview T19-1's power adapter does not work properly (the screen stays black, the light next to the ON button flickers etc.). There are some ways to make it work, but these sollutions are not so safe, so I decided to get a new one.It would be really hard to get an exact same one, since it's an old model, but I wondered if it could be replaced with a universal notebook power adapter? For example the TRUST 16665 65W seems suitable. What do you think?Additional question: I have heard that that if you plug out and in these adapters every day it's reduces their lifetime. It does not seem very logical, but I wonder what the experts think, since I can not think of any other reason why could it broke.

I get a pop-up when I plug in the power adapter to my Yoga2Pro:  "The connected power adapter cannot suply enough power.  Use of this power adapter may lower system performance."  And a link to take me to the Lenovo store and buy a new adapter.    Thing is:  this is all fresh out of the box.  The Yoga2Pro, and the power adapter that came with it.  Adapter is Model Name ADLX65SDC2A.  I did update the Energy Manager driver.  Task Manager tells me that it's Energy Manager producing the pop-up.  I've explored the EM settings, but don't see anything that I could change.

When plugging in the power adapter, the "charge" light does not come on, nor will the notebook power up. To rule out the HP power adapter I plugged in a Targus universal adapter (with correct polarity) and same result. Same results whether the battery is installed or not. The notebook had been in storage for several months, therefore, no recent changes. Any ideas?

The original adapter cord for my T61 laptop shorted and sparked right at the base of the laptop connector where the cord had apparently cracked through from too much bending.  Then the laptop worked fine on the battery until it ran out of juice.  There is no indication of power to the laptop on the replacement power adapter cord though.  I verified power at the laptop end of the replacement cord with a multi meter. I think this pretty well isolates the problem to between where the cord plugs in and where the battery power joins the circuit, right?  Would that be in the power supply?  I've read that there is not a "power supply" per se in laptops but that it is integral with the fan kit.  So should I just be ordering a replacement "Thermal device and fan (Integrated)" to fix this problem?  I see in the part list that this is marked as "not to be replaced by the customer".  Is that just a warranty statement, irrelevant outside of warranty, or should I be looking for a good repair shop? I have some experience with computer repair, but have not dealt with any repair shops in years, and have never dug into a laptop myself.  What I think I know to this point, as stated above, is based on a bit of web searching and general experience.  In reality, I'm very unsure of anything I've said regarding diagnosis or next steps.  Please advise. Thank you, James

My laptop is ThinkPad X1. Same situation. Originally was at 97% charge, once go to battery mode (AC unplug) battery immediately goes to 5% and then hibernate. Replaced 3 batteries from service center but problem still persist. Support Center keep insisting is battery problem despite 3 replacement batteries from service center! Lenovo is providing faulty batteries to customer for consecutively 3 times!? Issue has dragged for over 1 year and now Support Center says battery warranty is over and request to purchase new battery. If purchasing new battery can solve the issue, why did I need to replace the battery 3 times!? All batteries cycle counts range between 30 to 40 only. (Mostly on AC and recharge threshold is set to recharge at 33%). Lenovo batteries can only last for 3-6 months!? Despite case being escalated to "TOP MANAGEMENT", no response from Lenovo at all for over 1 week! Is this even escalating? Is this so-called "Customer Satisfaction" when satisfaction level is NEGATIVE ONE HUNDRED?

Hello all, I recently recieved my IdeaPad Y410p from the Lenovo repair centre and they changed my system board for a different issue, but now I have a new problem. I updated Windows to 8.1 and did all the critical updates and then tried to uninstall some of Lenovo's bloatware and now my laptop won't turn on or charge the battery. I tried to do a power drain (remove the battery and hold down the power button), but still no luck. The laptop won't turn on at all with the battery or the plug by itself.  I then waited a few hours and tried to turn on my laptop again and then this time it powered on for some reason! I quickly restored my system back to Windows 8 thinking there was a problem with an update or bloatware uninstallation and then all seemed well until  I powered down my laptop again, but then couldn't power it back on. I called Leneovo and they said it was impossible for it to be a hardware problem since they just repaired it and since I updated everything and then restored it back, which then it still had the same power issues means it most likely isn't software. The only other thing I could think of is there might be a problem with the power adapter, but I've had this laptop since July 2013 and the adapter was working perfectly fine and this problem only started once I received my laptop back from Lenovo after a "repair". Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated at this point. Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p won't power on with power adapter plugged in and won't charge battery.

Hi there -  I wanted to add that I am having the same problem. I sent my Lenovo in for warranty repair (rear left hinge broke) - I got it back Friday May 16th and ever since then it won't stay on and sometimes won't turn on. I called Lenovo warranty support and (of course) they denied it was their problem. However, I complained enough that they're going to send me a new one. Of course, you have to be in-warranty for this to work. Just a suggestion Hope you get your straightened out!!!

Hello, I have a T530 quad core, which means I need the 135W power adapter.  I was flying yesterday and my seat had power, so I figured I would use the "Airplane In-Seat Power Mode" function on Power Manager to avoid tripping any breakers on the airplane.  However (and I've tried this at home as well on AC mains), choosing the airplane in-seat power mode doesn't seem to result in the advertised "adjusting charge rate and cpu" - instead it just causes the laptop to not charge at all and say this: "This AC adapter may not provide enough power to your Lenovo computer. Please reconnect the proper AC adapter." Of course... it is the right adapter... and switching off Airplane Power Mode makes it start charging normally again immediately. I have the BIOS update needed that says it enables this feature (1.12), and Power Manager 6.32. Has anyone else tried Airplane In-Seat Power Mode and had it work, or can anyone from Lenovo comment on this? THANKS!

Answer:T530 Airplane In-Seat Power Mode = reject power adapter

It will be a bugger just to take another flight to effectively test it again. LOLMaybe from a 12V auto socket.

The tips I got with this Kensington 33197 power adapter have numbers stenciled on them like N3, N5, N19, etc. The tips sold on their web site make no mention of the "N" numbers and have numbers like K20059, K20050, etc. and there is no cross reference.

You can also see a complete reference for "N" numbers to all the laptops they support at the above link. Again, no mention of the numbers Kensington uses on their site.

I need a cross reference for these kinds of numbers.

Kensington referred me to their telephone tech support; but, there is a language or cultural barrier that prevents their understanding what I need.

Does anyone know of such a reference?

I apologize in advance if this is something that has been dealt with here before; I searched and couldn't find anything.  My laptop was working fine up until this morning when I woke up.  The power indicator light that is normally solid green was orange.  I turned on the computer and it worked as normal except that it was using battery power despite being plugged in.  I was able to use the laptop until the battery died. Now the power light flashes orange when the ac adapter is plugged in, and is off when the laptop is not plugged in.  I'm pretty sure it's not a battery issue, and the ac adapter itself is brand new ( I bought it just two weeks ago) and appears completely undamaged.  I know it isn't an issue with my surge protector, which is working fine for other devices. My completely un-expert, non-technical opinion is that there is an internal issue where the ac adapter connects to the laptop.  Any thoughts?

try to remove the battery, unplug the ac power, press 30-40 seconds power button, plug the ac adapter then check if it works.if it doesn't work, could be power connector issue.

Hi all,Really in need of help, I have a U310 ( non touch version) that doesn't turn on.How it happened: I dropped it lightly and when I picked up the top right corner sort of seemed detached. I pressed it back and it worked fine that day. But the next day I tried to turn on and the battery LED blinked three times slowly in amber and the laptop wouldn't turn on.What I tried: checked the power adapter, and it reads 20V fine. Checked with aanother adapter at Fry's just to make sure with the same result.2. I opened and checked power connector, and 20V goes out of it too

My laptop will no longer turn on.  When the AC adapter is plugged in, the LED light is white indicating power is arriving at the laptop. However, nothing happens when I push the power button. Troubleshooting steps I have completed already include: Hard reset (several times including after each step below)Tried starting without the batteryRemoved all removable components and reseated themRemoved all removable components as well as bottom cover. Cleaned with compressed air. Put everything back.Nothing appears wrong and nothing happened between the last time it turned on and this time that I am aware of. I have fully upgraded windows 10 and all the latest drivers from Acer support pages installed to my Aspire S5-371.When I'm trying to connect a display into type-c USB-port using a type-c/HDMI adapter, windows shows an error message "Display connection is limited" and by clicking it, it opens following web site: I tried 2 different type-c/HDMI adapters with same results. Answer:S5-371 dual display issue with type-c adapter

The end of the M$ note says "The hardware and software on the system, the device or adapter, or cable does not support the DisplayPort /DockPort or MHL alternate modes." Now since a regular USB port works (2.0 even) for DisplayPort that leaves MHL. Maybe you need one of these.

Is there a way for a Windows 10 firewall rule to determine what network adapter is in use? Can it differentiate between Wi-Fi, TAP, Ethernet, etc.?
Poking around Windows Firewall for the first time, I don't see any settings related to network adapter, but I wonder if the "local IP address" settings could be useful. Would the different adapters show up as different local IP addresses, in some way that is consistent enough to make a rule out of it?

Hello! I've been around here for a sometimes but never registered as a users because I find all the solution I needed, but I have one follow problems that I can't solve and I need sevenforum's help!

I recently bought Sapphire Radeon HD 6770 and comparing game performance with my old graphic card Nvidia 9800 GT, I don't see much of a difference. According to my friend who builds computer, he said it's suppose to be superior differences between those 2 graphic cards. I also tried to sign up for BETA profile for Blizzard game series and apparently it kept detecting the Radeon HD 4200, which is my integrated card. Anyways, my question is, how can I change my Adapter Type? I posted a picture of it so you guys can see what's my problem is. I have the latest Catalyst Control Panel from the sites sticky thread .

I don't know how to check my computer stuff, so here's my computer on website: HP - Pavilion Desktop / AMD Athlon™ II Processor / 4GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - p6654y

My english is my second language so if you can't understand what I said I'll be glad to explain again lol. Rough draft xD.

I've already tried Driver Sweeper, failed on me .

I don't know what BIOS means either lol.

If my integrated graphic card is disabled for good, I think I might get to see my 6770's full performance. Also tried overclocking, didn't helped at all :[. I still think it's my integrated card's problem, but hey I could be wrong. I'm terrible at computers .

Answer:Changing a video card adapter type help.

Assuming HP didn't hide the option in the bios (and I wouldn't put it past them), have a good look around likely in the Advanced section under Chipset. If it is don't disable it quite yet, first boot back to Windows and uninstall the AMD driver through Programs and Features using the Catalyst Install Manager. Then restart and go into the bios and disable, and re-install the AMD driver using the latest,

Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

unless that is the one you already have.

P.S. What you're seeing shouldn't happen, but with the way HP likes to hide/disable/monkey around in general with bios settings I'm not really surprised that it did. When it works properly (the AMD onboard video with an AMD video card) you can actually use both at the same time for running up to 4 (or 5 depending on video card) monitors at a time.

Hi there,

We've got 3 Dell precision towers 5810 that work great, except for a possible bios bug, which I can reproduce on all machines:

I'm using the installed NIC: Intel ethernet server adapter i210-t1.
Our computers go powerless every night (mains power) after a normal pc shutdown. Every morning, when the power is back on, I want to wake up all computers in our building with Wake On Lan (WOL) by sending a 'magic packet' over the network.
This normally works well if the machine has been switched on and off with the power button / windows shutdown. But when I unplug the machine (mains power), wait and plug in the mains power again, the computer does not respond to the WOL packet. (Maybe the PCI-E NIC does not get power on plugging in the mains of machine for the first time).
It works well on the integrated (motherboard) NIC. BIOS / power / sleep state settings seem to be ok.

Answer:Wake On Lan (WOL) not working on Dell precision tower 5810 with Intel ethernet server adapter i210-t1 at first power up / after no power

My Dell XPS 13 has recently been unable to recognize my AC adapter. I've tried several outlets and chargers, but to no avail. Once I plug the charger into the laptop, the charging light on my Dell lights up for a second but turns off immediately after.
I am unable to get past the Dell SupportAssist and it seems to be an endless loop that won't allow me into my desktop.
Would I be able to bypass the "AC Adapter Unknown" error by using Google's Pixel 2 charger? It would allow me to charge through Dell's USB-C port instead. Has anyone tried this method or has solved the issue in any other way?

The Spectre x2 12 detachable is capable of charging through the two Type-C USB ports. The HP Type-C USB adapter charges using these two ports. However, no third party Type-C USB chargers (even with Power Delivery specifications) will charge this device. Meaning, there is no benefit to charging via Type-C since this device can only use the HP adapter charger. Another HP device that charges via Type-C USB, the Spectre 13.3 (HP Spectre 13-v151nr), received a BIOS update (F.26 Rev.A; sp77130.exe) in August that allows charging through third party Type C-USB chargers like Google and Apple chargers (see below in yellow;"- Expands support for the USB Type-C adaptor."). I am requesting a similar Type-C charging adapter BIOS update for the HP Spectre x2 - 12-a008nr, to remove the limitation described above. Not allowing to be charged through Type C chargers manufactured by Google and Apple is absurd. If you would please,  use the Power Delivery specifications that these reputable vendors use, and that you also used for the 13.3, and allow this device to truly be fantastic. Thank you! Below is the notes from the BIOS update for the 13.3:Fixes - Fixes an issue where certain keys generate the incorrect character when the keyboard on the system is used.- Fixes an issue where certain keys do not generate a character when the keyboard on the system is used.- Expands support for the USB Type-C adaptor.- Provides enhanced BIOS password security.- Provides enhance... However, when I plug in my AC adapter and power on, the netbook is able to power up and my battery indicates 100%, if I remove the battery, the netbook would be able to detect the removal of battery and would show in the "Power Management". Have tried some methods suggested in the forum but I can't seem to get the netbook to power with battery alone. Would like to seek the help of experts in this forum to advise. Methods Tried.1. Pressing 30secs on power button2. Disabling battery ac adapter in windows hardware manager control panel.

Answer:S10-2 Netbook able to power on with AC adapter but cannot power on with battery

Hi, It's been a couple of weeks since I bought my Thinkpad E570 (Product SKU 20H5CTO1WW). Since I live in Greece and the laptop is on its way to me (I had it delivered to a friend of mine in UK), I'd like to know what kind of ac adapter the laptop is equipped with. If it's universal (110/220V) then I suppose an adaptor from type G to type F plug would suffice, otherwise I will probably need a new ac adapter. So, can anyone help me with my question? I forgot to ask my friend about it, I just realized about the different power plugs today. Regards,Vas

Answer:Thinkpad E570 ac adapter type (bought from Lenovo e-shop)

Welcome to the forum.
> If it's universal (110/220V) then I suppose an adaptor from type G to type F plug would suffice
ThinkPad AC chargers are designed to work with input voltages from 110VAC to 240VAC so the charger that's shipped with your E570 will be just fine. If your new E570 was bought in the UK then yes, you'll need a G to F adapter to fit local power outlets.

Normally when you insert a pccard into the slot you should feel a slight resistance at the end. After that the ejection pin pops out. also a card should fit in there completely. Now if i test a working pccard (32 bits gold connector) in this r500, it can not fit it in there completely. Also there is no resistance or connection. It will slide in loosely and does not connect. The last centimeter of the card will not fit in the adapter. No new device is found. I tested this in linux as well in windows7. I conclude the physical connection  between the card and the adapter is not there. So perhaps this is a hardware flaw ? Or perhaps i am missing something obvious.if i look closely into the slot, i can see there is a metal pin at the left side deep inside the slot, wich blocks access to the connection pins. It prevents my cards from beeing inserted completely. * I wonder if anyone has found this same problem.* also has anyone found a normal userguide for his laptop ? (r500 2714) i can only find the Hardware maintenance and safetey manuals. Thanks for your responses.

Answer:r500 2714 pcmcia/cardbus type i/ii adapter does not work.

Aha, the metal pin blocking access is released when the grey releasebutton is in the 'ejected' state. Now i can fit the pccard type in there. (32 bit pcmcia) These have a gold plated connector on the card and has the word pccard on it.the old style 16 bit cards dont seem to fit. Maybe this info will help other users. Still i would like to see a r500 usermanual in wich i cold have read this * Does anyone know where to find the usermanual ? regards

I have an XPS 12 9250 with an external Dell Adapter USB Type C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 470-ABQN.  This adapter is working for Ethernet and VGA, but the USB port is not working.  I suspect that I need the correct drivers installed.  When I plug in my windows phone or my android phone, both devices show that they are charging, but windows 10 does not indicate that it sees the devices.  If I plug in an external keyboard to the adapter's USB port, windows 10 does not react, and the keyboard lights do not come on (keyboard works fine on 2 other computers).
So, I'm pretty sure I've installed all the latest drivers that are listed on for the xps 12 9250, but it's hard to tell as there seem to be scores of them.
Is anyone else having this problem?  Can anyone tell me which specific drivers I need to get USB working?  Thank you

In the week or two I have updated to Windows 10 from 8.1. The surface Pro 3 has been automatically doing updates. 2 days ago the type cover stopped working and disappeared from devices. Today the wifi does not work and says "The Marvell AVISTAR Wire4less-AC Network Controller is not fixed. Experiencing driver or hardware related problems." Also in device manager "The network adapter is experiencing problems. Failed". The Bluetooth has also disappeared. Can you offer some advice on how to resolve this please. Also when I can get wifi and can restore my devices, should I go back to windows 8.1? Thanks.

Answer:My Surface Pro 3 has lost hardware/device for wifi adapter, bluetooth and type cover.

Maria go to device manager and disable the wifi and bluetooth adaptors and then enable them and see if that helps
Check this article for more info:
You can go back to windows 8.1 only if you do it before a month is over since you upgraded

Hi,im having a very frustrating issue with the built-in wirless network adapter. after starting up everything works ok and the wireless connection connects to my local wireless network.once every few hours it suddenly shows an error on the connection icon in the  right bottom corner (local area connection only, unable to connect to the internet ) nothing i do from that point solves the problem: i tried the following:1. disable and enable the wireless adpater from vista or the Thinkvantage software.2. turn Off\On the wireless switch infront.3. disconnect and reconnect to another network.4. restart wirless related services. the only thing i can do is restart the computer to fix the issue. im thinking it might be some kind of a hardware failure.but there is no other indication or related symptom of when this happens.could it be related to a fan issue i have been having lately ? Please help ThanksBoaz

After running Windows updates, the Intel HD Graphics adapter has an error which takes out the use of multiple screens either through the HDMI out or USB 2.0.  I have tried disabling and re-enabling the adapter, uninstalling and re-installing the driver.  Searched on Intel and Lenovo sites for a driver that will work with no luck.  The only thing I have found to work so far is restoring to before the updates were ran - which only last so long until the updates run again. Anyone have any ideas?

Our software requires a service user to have certain rights in the Local Security Policy. One of them of course being "Log on as a service".

Today I got a call saying our software wasnt working at one of our customer's locations. Error message was a logon failure. After verifying credentials werent changed I checked the LSP and sure enough our user was taken out of the several objects it needed to be in.

Tried looking through the event viewer. If its in there I probably missed it. Not entirely sure what I'm looking for in there. Google was no help.

Hello everyone!

I'm having problem figuring out what type of power adapter / power cord this is. I know it's for a HP PSC 1500 and above series
but they don't sell these parts anymore. Anyone have any clue as to where I should start searching or a possible website that sell these? The one on ebay is way to expensive

I'm positive there must be other adapter like this elsewhere but I just don't know what it call. I know it a 3 pong cord and that it and it doesn't seem to come up with anything usefull on google

Thanks for checking out this post

But they did not tell me which type or watts I should get with my build. If I call cyber power in within the next day they will only charge the difference in price between the two power supplies. So please let me know which psu I need. Also is my build alright and did I get an alright price?

I recently moved to NYC and have subscribed to Time Warner for the internet service.
Today using a new laptop to login my Facebook account, I got a email from Facebook saying
Operating System: Windows 7
Browser: Firefox
Location: Herndon, VA, US (IP=xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxx:xxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx)
OS and Brower are correct. Even the IP is correct (Google's find_your_IP_address shows the same address). But why is it "located" in VA?
And if I use another site to find out my IP (e.g., it shows a "different" IP (all numbers, whereas Facebook and Google detect an alphanumeric IP). The IP shown by whatismyipaddress is located in NYC.
Hopefully I am just being paranoid, but why would Faceook/Google detect an IP that is in VA ?? Am I being hacked? And why would another IP detection website locate my IP to be in NY ??
Any insight will be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:How is IP address determined ?

Time Warner has buildings all over the planet. The main office is in New York City,
and one of their offices is in Herndon, VA

I'm adding to my photo stocks regularly.Question, without wires and more hardware, can I share files from here to there using this Edimax Wireless Lan.Many thanks dear readers.

Just a question on, i suppose you would call it "networking theory"

How is throughput determined? For example, my connection to my router is 100meg up and down, but my router's connection to the internet is only 1.5/.5 meg. How does the router control the rate of transmission from my machine to match (or at least approximate), that of it's speed? Even simpler, how does a connection know that it has reached a saturation point somewhere along the link between sender and reciever? Is it a hardware level (along the level of MACs) or something higher, such as TCP that handles this?

I'm replacing the power jack on my laptop and I think I may have used the wrong part. I used a NO.50.4KBE01.011, but I think the quad-core version uses a different jack-- does anyone here know the proper part number for a quad core W530? I'd be very grateful if someone could tell me, as I can't seem to find it easily online. Thanks for reading.
